Tumblr media
Follow the step-by-step process of how argan oil is made.
Did you know?
The argan tree withstands temperatures of up to 50° Celsius.
The argan trees are a true bastion against desertification, which can reach 10 meters in height and can live for 200 years.
A symbol of eternity and resistance, the argan tree has a strong symbolic and emotional value for local communities.
Argan oil is given as a wedding gift and is used extensively in the preparation of festive dishes.
It takes about 150 kg of fruit to produce 3 litres of argan oil.

In 2013, Welty and Caleb Phillips, a computer scientist and fellow forager, launched Fallingfruit.org, an open-source map that charts edible plants in cities around the globe to encourage urban foraging. They wanted a better tool to record locations and fruiting schedules recognizing the vast resource of food at hand and sizable number of potential converts to the practice.

I wish some of the companies that made edibles made virgin versions. Some of them are so good but if I eat a handful of edibles I will literally die

Plant of the Day
Tuesday 5 March 2024
The fragrant flowers of Prunus mume (Japanese apricot, ume) appear in late winter and early spring. This deciduous tree has dark green shoots and the flowers appear on the bare branches and are followed by edible but sour, apricot-like, yellow fruit.

Unexpected surprise at the strawberry patch: a lot of juicy yellow wood sorrel growing between rows of berry plants! These are a match made in heaven TBH
Some of you may recognize this as sourgrass, pickle plant (you can see the fruits that look like tiny pickles in the above photo!), or its true name – oxalis. As the nicknames suggest, this plant is sour AND it is edible. You can eat every part of the plant that’s growing aboveground, even the stems. The sourness comes from oxalic acid, which is also what gives foods like rhubarb and raspberries their tanginess.
To me, the taste is a combo of citrus, rhubarb, and a juicy sour apple. You can use oxalis to make lemonade, simple syrup, savory dressings and sauces, or anywhere you want to substitute something wild for citrus
I’m attempting to make strawberry + oxalis tart bars with these. Will report back with THAT 🍓☘️

Oakland's Radical Plant Nursery Breaks the Prison Cycle
Permaculture instructor Andrew Millison journeys to East Oakland, California, to visit the legendary plant nursery Planting Justice, which primarily hires formerly incarcerated people. They provide a fair wage and benefits to former prisoners with unbelievable results: a 2% recidivism rate, compared to 60% for the State of California. The nursery itself has an incredible diversity of edible and useful plant species and varieties, custom selected to grow an epic permaculture garden.
