Obelisk the Tormentor

I have been buying used Yu-Gi-Oh! cards from my local game and comic shop for a few months now. There is always one or two foil or special cards. I have gotten some pretty good cards from buying them this way, but I had never gotten a Monster card that was so special. I watched all of Duel Monsters, so for me an Egyptian God Card is so special. It’s not actually very valuable, not in the best condition, but it made me so happy. I was going through the pack I just bought, expecting that the first card (a Fusion monster) would be the most valuable/powerful card, and then I saw this. Obelisk isn’t my favorite card, or even my favorite of the Egyptian God Cards, Slifer the Sky Dragon is my favorite God and Blue-Eyes White Dragon is my favorite card. I don’t have either of those, but I was still happy to get this.

maybe my favorite thing about Battle City is how everyone’s decks are built around managing the god cards

Marik built Strings a whole DECK just for supporting Slifer. But even subtler than that, is the addition of the Magnet Warriors and the Card Knights to Yugi’s deck, and XYZ Dragon Cannon and the continued use of Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon in Kaiba’s deck. Trios of monsters that work well on their own, AND can be converted into tributes for the gods

or even more subtle than THAT is how cards like Fiend Sanctuary are necessary additions. In most cases, Yugi’s Magic Cylinder would be an easy out to the Winged Dragon of Ra’s point-to-point conversation, but it targets! AND in the anime the gods are immune to traps. Fiend Sanctuary though, creates a new entity that CAN be effected. Or Kaiba uses a card in his duel against Yugi that negates an attack’s declaration, instead of the attack

It would have been really cool to see the duelists making these decisions on purpose, but that they’re included at all is just jdiajsnkxala
