Ok! I've finally decided to put together a (somewhat) comprehensive tutorial on my latest art~

Please enjoy this little step-by-step 💁‍♀️

First things first--references!

Now I'm not saying you have to go overboard, but I always find that this is a crucial starting point in any art piece I intend on making. Especially if you're a detail freak like me and want to make it as realistic as possible 🙃

As such, your web browser should look like this at any given point:

Since this is a historical piece, it means hours upon hours of meaningless research just to see what color the socks are, but...again. that isn't, strictly, necessary 😅

Once I've compiled all my lovely ref pics, I usually dump them into a big-ass collage ⬇️

(I will end up not using half of these, alas :'D)

Another reference search for background material, and getting to showcase our models of choice for this occasion~

When picking a reference for an actor or model, the main thing I keep in mind (besides prettiness 🤭) is lighting and orientation. Because I already kinda know what pose I'm gonna go with for this piece, I can look for specific angles that might fit the criteria. I should mention that I am a reference hound, and my current COD actor ref folder looks like this:

Also keep in mind, if you're using a ref that you need to flip, make sure you adjust accordingly. This especially applies to clothing, as certain things like pants zippers and belt buckles can be quite specific ☝️

Now that we've spent countless hours googling, it's time to start with a rough sketch:

It doesn't have to be pretty, folks, just a basic guideline of where you want the figures to be.

The next step is to define it more, and I know this looks like that 'how to draw an owl' meme, but I promise--getting from the loose sketch above to below is not that difficult.

Things to keep in mind are--don't go too in-depth with the details, because things are still subject to change at this point. In terms of making a suitable anatomically-correct sketch, I would suggest lots of studying. This doesn't even have to be things like figure drawing, I genuinely look at people around me for inspiration all the time. Familiarize yourself with the human form, and things like weight, proportions, posing will seem a little more feasible.

It's also important at this stage to consider your composition. Remember to flip the canvas frequently to make sure you're not leaning to one side too often. I'm sure something can be said for the spiral fibonacci stuff, which I don't really try to do on purpose, but I think keeping things like symmetry and balance in mind is a good start ✌️

Next step is just blocking in the figures. Standard. No fuss 👍

Now onto the background!

It's frankly hilarious how many people thought I was *hand-drawing* these maps and stuff 😂😂 I cannot even begin to comprehend how insanely difficult that would be. So yeah, we're just taking the lazy copy and paste way out 🤙

I almost always prepare my backgrounds first, and this is mostly to get a general color scheme off the bat. For collage work, it's really just a matter of trial and error, sticking this here, slapping this there, etc. I like to futz around with different overlay options until I've found a nice arrangement. Advice for this is just--go nuts 🤷‍♀️

Next, I add a few color adjustments. I tend to make at least 2 colors pop in an art piece, and low and behold, they usually tend to be red and blue ❤️💙There's something about warm/cool vibes, idk man..

Now we move on to coloring the figures. This is just a basic block and fill, not really defining any of the details yet.

Next, we add some cursory values. Sloppy airbrush works fine, it'll look better soon I promise 🙏

And now--rendering!

I know a lot of beginner artists are intimidated by rendering, and I can totally understand why. It's just one of those things you have to commit to 💪

I've decided to show a brief process of rendering our dear Johnny's face here:

Starting off, I usually rely on the trusty airbrush just to get some color values going. Note--I've kept my sketch layer on top, but feel free to turn it on and off as you work, so as to not be too bound to the sketch. For now, it's just a guideline.

This next stage may look like a huge jump, but it's really just adding more to the foundation. I try to think of it like putting on make-up in a way~ Adding contours, accentuating highlights. This is also where I start adding in more saturation, especially around areas such as ears, nose and lips. Still a bit fuzzy at this point, but that's why we keep adding to it 💪

A boy has appeared! See--now I've removed most of the line layer, and it holds up on its own. I'll admit that in order to achieve this realistic style, you'll need lots and lots of practice and skill, which shouldn't be discouraging! Just motivate yourself with the prospect of getting to look at pretty men for countless hours 🙆‍♀️

I'll probably do a more in-depth explanation about rendering at some point, but let's keep this rolling~

Moving forward is just a process of adding to the figures bit by bit. I do lean towards filling in each section from top to bottom, but you can feel free to pop around to certain parts that appeal to you more. I almost always do the faces first though, because if they end up sucking, I feel less guilty about scrapping it 😂 But no--I think he's pretty enough to proceed 😚

They're coming together now 🙆‍♀️ Another helpful tip--make sure you reuse color. By that, I mean--try to incorporate various colors throughout your piece, using the eyedropper tool to keep a consistent palette. I try to put in bits of red and blue where I can

Here they are fully rendered! Notice I've made a few subtle changes from the sketch, like adjusting the belt buckles because I made a mistake 😬 Hence why you shouldn't put too much stock in your initial sketch~

The next step is more of a stylistic choice, but I usually go over everything with an outline, typically in a bright color like green. Occasionally, I can just use my initial line layer, but for this, I've made a brand new, cleaner line 👍

And the final step is adjusting the color and adding some text:

All in all, this took me the better part of a week, but I have a lot of free time, so yeah ✌️

I hope you appreciated that little walkthrough~ I know people have been asking me how I do my art, but the truth is--I usually have no clue how to explain myself 😅 So have this half-assed tutorial~

I've straightened up a lot of priorities in the last few months: - Commissions are now forever closed. No more. Never. Nada. I am absolutely done with it. The last few ones I did over the last few months made me realize that I do not enjoy drawing for others anymore unless it's for shits and giggles, or a trade with friends. (no, do not try to be my friend to get free art. been there, done that)

- I am revisiting my deep love for medieval fantasy stuff. That is where I've always felt more creative and generally inspired. The last few drawings I did and texts I've written really reflect that. (I do plan on continuing some of my tmnt fics tho, that's for sure)

- I do not see the need to push content as much over the years. I am satisfied with doing things for myself, and frankly I've been gaining less and less traction over time because of how sporadically I post in general. The internet is really strange now with its algorithms and views and "for you" pages, etc. BLEHRG. If people find my stuff and like it, good for them. Otherwise, I post for myself or just don't post at all 🤷‍♀️ as long as I'm happy, that's what matters.

- Not gonna lie, I'm also doing this to prepare myself mentally to not be so dependant of the internet and having my sole source of happiness come from it. My partner and I have some plans for the future - some which involve actually starting a family - so I know the internet cannot be a priority.

- My career is taking a lot of twists and turns. I am more involved in the video game development sphere and I'm aiming for roles up high in management. Things are moving fast this year and I might get where I want to be sooner than later. That is going to take a lot of my time and energy. So any free time I have, I want it to be for ME.

yesssss i did! i think it was in reference to me explaining why i write female readers for my explicit fics despite being nb myself, if i recall correctly; or something of that ilk. my previous couple of fandoms i was in, i wrote m/m (though those werent reader-inserts), and tbh a lot of it is just me wanting to write women!! sometimes, i’ll keep it gender neutral since that’s always fun and matches my own experience better, but otherwise…. haha yeah. women 🙆‍♀️

that said! i know i have lots of men/masc enbies/more gn folks that read my fics (several of whom i’ve gotten messages from!) and i’m super happy to hear that they enjoy my works as well. i think my fics tend to skew more on the gender-neutral scale outside of things like… presumed anatomy and pet names tied to pronouns… so my reader characters are less fem than others even when i’m explicitly (haha) writing a woman. side effect of me being nb i suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ive toyed with writing explicitly trans characters, but every time i try, i end up putting too much of my own experience in the fic. i have a very positive community, but i’m not interested in putting my own experience as a trans person in the world for that kind of dissection critically (not in fanfic anyway where im not getting paid to balance the risk). as a result, for my reader-insert fics (which, as a genre, are already a magnet for disingenuous or dishonest engagement outside of its community, let alone getting into any kind of inane discourse about writing explicit fic of aged up characters) i stick to presumed cis reader characters, at least for now.

what do you like about gintama? (asking as a longtime gintama enjoyer and also a longtime enjoyer of your art)

i don't think i'm THAT far in with gintama, considering how long it ran for, so I'm still learning what gintama is about. but i think the core of gintama is compassion, and that's what draws me to it... the point of every arc is to be there for those around you who are struggling because sometimes that is more than enough. it's all poopoo peepee jokes and ngl i'm a big fan of poopoo peepee jokes, but i love that there's an underlying warmth to the entire story and all the characters. the author really seems to like "people", if you know what i mean? like you can tell he's very well-adjusted lmao i also actually really do find gintama funny, more so because i now have a few years of anime viewing experience so i understand, not all, but many of the references that are being made. also... gintama has a very distinct way of portraying its male characters. they may look average on the outside but there is this very ojisan quality to them and i am so obsessed with this (i'm a big fan of kondou)... not to mention all the women in this show are equally goofy and we're really about that equality here...... oh and another thing is, the voice acting cast in gintama is superb, they sometimes laugh at their own lines and it's literally chef's kiss. i thought i didn't enjoy japanese comedy genre animes but gintama proved me wrong 🙆‍♀️

Imagine what sort of delicious angst and conflict could be sparked from that. He's thousands of years old, he's had centuries to rethink his views, yet he hasn't. Are there reasons? Is he justified in them? MC is only decades old, mybe they are being naive? Maybe Solomon too was naive at some point, thousands of years ago. Hmmm the what ifs...

- What if Solomon decided to show MC the horrors demonkind has commited to try help them understand? OR what if he actively choses not to show them, to spare MC from the heartbreak it might cause them? (Tangent: and do the demons know?)

- From an MC who is into Solomon and viceversa, but they are always arguing/fighting about how each treats the demons (unavoidable since demons are a big part of MC's life now).

- An MC who is dating or just on the side of the demons, growing so recentful of the way Solomon treats them. Do they keep distant from him? Would that upset him? What if they realize, a little later on, the way Solomon sees demons and they got along well before that, but now MC is uncomfortable or upset with him. Maybe he would see it as another of the many sacrifices hes gone through to "protect" mankind; losing MC's favor.

- What if MC agrees with Solomon. And starts seeing the brothers as their playthings? (cue angstiest timeline for the demons)

Your drinks catch up to you on the dancefloor, all at once.

You’ve thrown them back like water tonight, faster than you normally would on a first date. But the man who’s sat across from you all night is intimidatingly gorgeous, not to mention sweet and soft-spoken and full of endearing little habits, like the way he pouted down into his own glass as he lifted it for a sip only to realize he’d already finished it.

Then he’d glanced up again as the empty glass tapped back down onto the table between you, his eyes just barely narrowing in a way that somehow managed to change his entire expression– made your stomach do a little backflip, too.

His voice was spun silk when he asked the question, dripped in something not quite innocent.

“Do you want to dance?”

What you hadn’t accounted for when you’d nodded your agreement and tried to will the flush of heat out of your face was the fact that dancing would mean getting even closer to Jimin. Dancing means his hands cupping the curve of your hips, warm through the thin fabric of your dress. You also hadn’t accounted for the way your liquor-soaked brain would take that spark and run a marathon with it, imagining those hands tangling in your hair, circling the buds of your breasts, slipping up your skirt.

There’s a steady pulse thudding in your core, in time to your heart and the bass of the speakers, and you swear the beat skips every time the flashing lights catch on an edge of Jimin: the full lines of his lips, the hoops sparkling diamond-bright at the corners of his jaw, the flicker of his lashes over the soft color bloom in his cheeks.

It’s too much. The space between your thighs aches, begging to be filled, and so you let your body lead. The room spins a little; you turn with it, Jimin’s hands fluttering at your waist.

You don’t know who initiates it– if you pressed back, if he pulled you in, or if the draw is all magnetism– but the space between your bodies narrows and then disappears. Your hips slot together, easy.

Something tells you the alcohol’s not to blame for the headrush buzz that hits you at the warmth of Jimin’s body under yours. The colors of the club smear together on the backs of your eyelids, and your lips part for a breath in when you feel his hips roll into yours like he knows what he’s doing.

And then his soft voice paints heat up the slope of your neck, and your eyes blink open again. “Can I tell you something?”

“I’m kind of a lightweight,” he admits, and you can hear that it’s true, his words sliding into each other. You can’t help your giggle, partially because you weren’t expecting his confession, and partially because, well– you’re feeling it too.

“That’s okay.” You do your best to reassure, speaking up to carry over the pulse of the music. “Me too, I think.”

“Can I tell you something else?”

Jimin’s voice sinks low into his chest when he asks the question, and the rumble of it vibrates through you like the thrum of a plucked string, underscored by his hips still rocking into yours. You drag your teeth over your bottom lip before you answer.

“Uh-huh.”

His nose grazes the line of your jaw, and you can hear the shy smile in his words when he speaks again.

“I’m also kind of a slut.”

Your breath hitches in your chest and you wonder if Jimin feels it. It’s so dark, your bodies pressed flush– it’s hard to keep up with where you end, where he begins, his tight black t-shirt and jeans blurring at the edges of your little black dress.

“That’s more than okay,” you finally manage, and you feel him dig just a little deeper into where he has you, gripping tighter at the line of your waist, as if making a promise of what’s to come.

“Yeah?” Jimin purrs.

You let your body answer him, let your hands slip over his to guide them lower, a slow tease. It’s easier to ask without words, your head dropped back against his shoulder, his fingertips seeking out the v-line of your panties through your dress, tracing the lace edge.

There’s no question that the crotch of his jeans has filled out now; you can feel him straining against denim, an insistent bulge at the curve of your ass. When you roll your hips in a circle, it earns a soft moan in your ear, one you could easily return at the wet drag of your thong when Jimin tugs at the fabric, rubbing a taste of friction just right over your clit. Okay after reading the chapter thrice, I've come to conclusions.

1. You wrote frankly one of the best smuts I've ever read. Easily in the top 5. I am surprised how upset i was when he didn't finish inside her lol. Guess i discovered a new kink of mine, gotta thank you for that

2. I absolutely LOVE their friendship. Not just jk and y/n. All four of them. She never said he can't have friends, she just felt threatened that jk is trying to bring another girl into their very close knitted group. It didn't sit right with her.
