Has anyone noticed that we never had a chance to properly see Law's second "signature" fit, one he wore during the timeskip before and during his time as a Shichibukai? He probably wore it the longest, albeit during his offscreened activities.

Similar to Onigashima, he draped a coat over his shoulders.

So much thoughts went on it to never eventually use it. What was the point.

Time to read Japanese for ants. Texts on the left:

"D will bring up a storm", "I'll grab what I want for sure".."monster arm?" His arm seems a bit deformed in that image too so who knows what's up with that + I don't trust my reading skills Oda marked a star on the final version, "Shichibukai" written on top.

Apparently he spent a lot of time on deciding his post timeskip hat. There's also this interesting bit of info in the Osaka exhibition log book noting that he wants Law's sideburns to be more distinct? thick? A user on Twitter noted this recently, that Oda commented while making Z's design that "sideburns are Manly".

Law wore a yellow top under the punk hazard coat in the manga. Anime Law, though, wasn't wearing it.

Oda drew the genderbent Law (left) in a similar fit, she's actually wearing the coat this time - but missing her tattoos and had no painted nails. The volume was released during late Dressrosa so this outfit was still the "default" post timeskip Law outfit in Oda's mind. Merch developers changed the fit to his Dressrosa coat for the Fem Law figure.

The fact that Doc Q's genderbent Law had the nails manicured and painted is both hilarious for what it is and a possible implication that Oda could be inspired by an existing, suggestive genderbent Law figure that released 6 years ago. Bet he owns one 🤨

In relation to my previous theory that the extent of Law's involvement and character depth was decided along Punk Hazard arc, I don't think Oda thought too deep about Law's tattoos and heart symbol when he decided Law's default Shichibukai fit for the timeskip. Law had to wear a coat during Punk Hazard for the cold weather and a heart-themed costume during Dressrosa for story purposes, followed by a casual shirt and the Wano yukata. Rather than purposefully avoiding it, Oda simply didn't have a chance to incorporate the default post timeskip design that he planned for Law.

The Onigashima fit could be a "modified" version of that very old design, now his characterization properly conceptualized and laid out and thus feathers instead of a regular collar as a nod to Corazon. His tattoos are also visible for a similar purpose.

There's so much to unpack in character designs. I wish we had access to more drafts and notes.

TL;DR

Oda never got to use the timeskip outfit he originally designed for Law due to various reasons, mainly because when he designed it, he didn't know what Law's role during the timeskip would be. The design gradually became obsolete, So he simply modified it to the Onigashima fit that's closely personalized based on the unplanned developments Law received along the way.

Dress up (Fem Trafalgar Law Drabble)

The moment Fem!Law saw your dumb smile and your flickering gaze,she knew you got a crazy idea. Before she realized,you were on your knees,begging her to try on clothes.

"Since when are you playing childish dress up games? And why am I your model?!" She responded irritated to your idea. Yet she couldn't say no for long to those puppies eyes of yours.

Soon enough,you were preparing her first outfit. A beautiful long black dress.

Law sighs loudly when she sees it. She grabs the dress to try it while you turn around. You couldn't contain your excitement. You can't believe this is really happening.

"Ok. I am done" She says in a monotone voice, already done with this. You turn around to face her.

"Wow..." That's the only thing coming out of your mouth. The dress highlights every curve. Her delicate,pale skin,seems to be the perfect match for her dark colored dress.

Fem!Law is waiting for your opinion, impatient. Without realizing,she starts getting a little anxious. Does she look horrible? "Love?" She tries to make you talk to her. Her voice shows her worries and a hint of timidity.

"You look...wow" You repeat, still too mesmerized by how beautiful your girlfriend is. "I am sorry. You're just... gorgeous"

Law feels her cheek burning. She turns around embarrassed. "W-whatever... Let's just move on with the other outfit" She stutters, having trouble forming the sentence.

You are now preparing another outfit. You look into your closet thinking about what you'd like to see her wear. Do you want her to be so hot that she'll become irresistible to you? Do you want her to look so adorable that you'll want to kiss her all day? Do you want her to look classy and elegant like the princess she is?

You take out a pair of pink fishnets, a white top with a pink floral pattern and a simple red miniskirt."Here,take it!" You hand it to your girlfriend.

Law rolls her eyes at the bright colors. "I'll look like a rainbow with this on." She takes the clothes, quickly putting them on.

"So? Do I look that bad?" She mumbles searching for your reaction. You feel a nosebleed coming, just like Sanji does when he sees women. Her breasts look rounder in the sweetheart neckline top,the pencil skirt is contouring her curves so perfect that it looks unreal.

"How do you manage to look hot and cute at the same time?" Law blushes once again at your words. "Maybe this thing isn't so stupid after all..." It seems like the girl enjoys your compliments more than she thought she would.

"Need a break. You're so captivating that it's making it hard to not faint." You joke about it.

Your girlfriend gives you a satisfied smirk before changing back into her normal clothes."That was surprisingly fun."

The one chapter entirely responsible for rekindling my interest in trafalgar law since.. 2014? He was sitting tight on the fourth spot on my list of favorites and now he's shot up to 2 lmao.

It's a me thing but I tend to like Oda's characters more when he's not writing a drama focused on them. Dressrosa was good, but didn't help a lot to elevate my interest in Law during my weekly read (the ass whooping was overdone. Much edge. Why is he suddenly a D?) I was almost entirely out of touch from op during the entirety of wano, sometimes only reading chapter summary when I got discord notifications.

Egghead was a refreshing start, but thanks to Law in this one chapter, somehow op is back as my main interest after 8 years.

There's nothing specific I liked about Law in 1063. But this is the type of empathy I wanted to feel for his character. He's no more with the straw hats. He's back at his own ship being where he truly belongs, I liked that. But this means the plot armor he had is also significantly thinner - of all things I didn't expect Blackbeard to be the one confronting him.

Ace was always my top 2 since his introduction. Ace and Law have a parallel going on either intentionally or coincidentally, being "the cool non-SH young adults" designed with visual appeal in mind. Having Blackbeard confront a character is like a bad omen in op-verse. The position Law was in warranted a terrible loss. It was inevitable, I was frustrated.

And what was Oda's approach to his impending disaster? Opening rule 63 fanart floodgate.

It was hilarious. It was everywhere. Before he's back to his background role, Oda wanted to make sure everyone is served. I had fun watching one piece reaction streams and reading the Japanese tweets like a newspaper.

It was small moment of click that helped me to get back to one piece altogether. Law hasn't surpassed Luffy in my list but I'm having fun writing about him.
