I’ve never heard JK say that he isn’t close with his family. When has he said this?

Hey, Anon,

I casually said JK is 'not that close' to his family in my post about Bam and i asume it's the reason for this ask?

It's fair question but tbh I don't really want to get into an analysis of JK's family relationships because

a) not my business

b) we really don't know anything

c) both b and c above

It also wasn't hugely significant to my post about Bam, it's just my opinion based on a few things he's said. So I'm not going to go searching for proof one way or the other. I'm not sidestepping the question though, so off the top of my head these are some of the reasons i came to that conclusion:

Most recently, he's talked about himself as a mixture of the members of BTS, saying his personality is a combination of all 6 hyungs and he hears them in his head and sees their influence in his daily life (Suchwita interview).

He also said in a Weverse interview from 2023 that he doesn't call his parents to say he's home safe when he's been out drinking but he does it to ARMY and it feels natural to do so - and i remember thinking it was quite a statement to make.

In the welive he did just after that festa dinner he told us he had been out with his parents and had an argument with his mother. He said something along the lines of his mum was nagging him and he told her he didn't need her input. Then he felt kinda bad about it, said he was a bad (but awesome) son, and dedicated a song to her.

And I am sure he loves his family as much as anyone else, but he also left home at 13 and hasn't had a lot of time with them. He had such a tight schedule for so many years it's unlikely he had more than a few visits with them a year. Even when he did have the opportunity to go home he didn't always do so. One example we know of is in 2017 when Chuseok was a longer holiday than usual and all the members had the chance to spend a bit of time with their family... Jimin and JK chose to stay in Seoul together rather than go home.

It seems natural and logical to me that he may not be emotionally close to them because of all those factors. But even without those factors, its not unusual for many independent adults to be closer with peers than with parents.

As i said it's not a judgement against his family life at all, and it's simply my opinion and not one i am overly invested in at this point. If he does have a super tight bond with his fam, that's cool too and all power to him 🐰💪💜

ZINE FAQ

General Questions:

What is a fanzine? - A fanzine is a little magazine made up of contributions from fans of a certain series/show/sport/whatever. In this case, "The Reason is You" is a zine focused around Spiderbit/Guapoduo, and it'll have people contributing from all over the globe!

What is this zine about? - This zine is specifically about Guapoduo as they are on the QSMP Minecraft Server. That is to say: a canon setting with canon relationship dynamics.

Can we include Obsessedduo/Devotionduo/Mafiaduo/the Guapoverse? - Unfortunately, not this time. This zine focuses specifically on their canon relationship. You don't have to write specifically about canon events like the wedding or Festa Junina, and you can include just about any headcanon you like- Catboy Cellbit, Spider-Roier, Trans Headcanons, etc- but it will be set within the canon setting.

Is this zine related to [Insert Fandom Event/Zine Here]? - Nope, this is a standalone project, but those other things sure sound cool!

How old do I have to be to apply? - Technically you can be any age, but what will actually matter is the portfolio you'll be submitting on the application. Unfortunately there will be a bias towards experience, but don't let that get you down! Feel free to try, you never know!

When will the applications go out? - The actual applications will go out as soon as they're finished being written and translated into Spanish and Portuguese, so give us a week or two. They WILL be out by the end of April, though.

When will we know if we got in? - Since we're expecting over 100 applications, it'll take us a minute to go through them all and decide who gets in! It'll depend on exactly how many applications we get, but we're anticipating reaching out to contributors via email sometime in early May.

How will we know if we got in? - On the application, you'll be giving us your email address. If you get in, you'll get an email from us with the discord server's link and a big ol' Parabens!!!

Do we have to have both a Twitter and a Tumblr? - Nope! Not necessary, just come with what you've got!

Do we have to have a Discord account? - Yes! After emails are sent, it will be mandatory for all admins, guests, and contributors to be part of the Discord server for the project. You won't need to be online every day, but you will need to have @ notifications turned on, and you'll need to be open to receiving dms from admins when it comes to check-ins.

What is the zine's exact schedule? - We're actually finalizing the dates as I write this post, and we'll keep you guys updated. Because of the bug impacting our collective ability to enter Twitter, the project may have to be pushed back a week or so just to keep things even. We're having to adjust for that. But we WILL get a schedule out ASAP, and it will be before the applications go live.

Will we have to do anything in November as contributors? What do you mean by it "ending" in November? - The way the schedule is currently projected, writers and artists will actually be done with their work around the end of August/beginning of September. After that, translators will have September and October to translate. Then, the people helping put everything together into the zine proper (graphic designers, admins, etc.) will be working through the end of October into November to finalize things and get the zine out by the end of November.

What do you mean by "applications", anyway? Do we have to try out for this zine? - In order to keep things fair, we're going to have people apply to be in the zine. This will eliminate bias and keep us admins from just letting Big Creators and Our Friends in. This way, everybody has an equal shot!

What do you mean by "writer and artist collaborations"? - The way these would work is that we the admins would pair together a writer and an artist who both indicated in their applications that they would be cool with a collaboration with a random person. After matching them together, we'd tell them in their emails that they're working with each other. From there, they'd come up with a concept together, and the writer would write it and the artist would Art it. The specifics would be up to them.

Are collaborations mandatory? - Nope! There will be an option on the applications that tell us whether or not you want to do a collaboration. It's totally optional.

Are we only working with people we share a language with? - While we might stick, say, two Portuguese speakers together for easier communication when it comes to collaborations, the zine will be made up of people from all over the globe speaking all sorts of languages! The discord server comes with a translation bot in it and everything.

Will there be merchandise? (Ex: wallpapers, icons, physical merchandise) - Unfortunately, no. This will be a free zine, and we will not be accepting personal donations from readers or contributors. This is for several reasons, but the most important reason is that it's for Legal Reasons. We don't own the copyrights to these characters or the QSMP Server, and we don't feel comfortable profiting off of them.

Then how can we pay for the zine? - You don't! BUT, if it can be worked out properly, there will be an option to donate what you want to a charity of our choice. If you want to pay for this zine, just pay what you would want to to that charity when the time comes.

Will there be a physical version of the zine? - Nope! This is a digital zine only. It will be released via pdf and maybe epub for anybody to download for free. This is for cost reasons, yes, but also because we want anybody anywhere to be able to read this zine regardless of whether or not they can afford international shipping.

Writer Questions

What am I supposed to write? - Pretty much anything you like as long as it's set within canon! No need to stick with actual events, again, just no crazy AU stuff. If you have specific questions, you can ask an admin once the writing process begins in May.

What is the word count? - Writers will be expected to write within a range of 1,000 to 3,000 words, but allowances will be made for more or less upon discussion with an admin.

Will poetry be allowed? - Sure! Any kind of writing will be allowed, just have it in your portfolio when you apply.

What do you mean "portfolio"? - When you fill out the application, you will be asked to submit 2-3 previous works. Threadfics, Wattpad fics, Ao3 links, whatever it is! The will be more details within the application itself, don't worry.

Do we have to write in English? - Nope! Write in your native language... but I will say that there will only be translations for English, Spanish, and Portuguese. We'd love to have, say, a German or French translation, but we only have so much manpower, and we don't want translators working overtime for free.

Artist Questions

What kinds of art are allowed in the zine? - Any kind of art! It can be digital or traditional. As long as you can provide a clear and clean scan/photo of any traditional work and provide that to the admins when the time comes, it'll be fine!

What about non-traditional artworks? (Ex: crochet, sculptures) - That's all fine! Again, just give us a clear photo, and it's fine!

Do we have to draw Guapoduo themselves? Or can we draw things related to them? - As long as it relates back to Guapoduo as a focus, it's fine. So you can draw a landscape of, say, Cellbit's Castle or the wedding venue.

What will be on our applications? - Just like writers, you'll be asked to provide a portfolio of 2-3 previous works. More information will be on the applications themselves.

Translator Questions

What will our schedule look like? - As mentioned earlier, you won't be doing too much work until the last bit of the zine's creation. Don't sweat it.

What languages will we be translating from/to? - The three languages the zine will be translated into are English, Spanish, and Portuguese. To be a translator, you'll need to have a level of fluency in at least two of these languages.

What will be on our application? - You can provide a portfolio if you have experience with translating, but there will also be a little bit of a test on your applications. If all goes according to plan, you'll indicate what language you would like to translate from and then into, and you'll then be given a passage to translate. That translation will then be checked by our admin team.

Do we need heavy translation experience? - Not necessarily, but, again, there will be a test on the application. It's just a necessary precaution.

Graphic Designer Questions

What do you mean by "graphic designer", exactly? - By this, we're talking about someone who knows how to do page layouts. We're gonna need your help putting the zine together and then exporting it in a pdf. (Like, Adobe InDesign type of stuff.)

What will be on our application? - Again, a portfolio will be required. For this, we won't require as many pieces, though. As long as you can prove you know how to use programs that can Make Book, or as long as you can show your expertise in page layout and management, we're good.

Note to Self:

During Festa 2022, we learned Jimin had heard Tae's songs:

I am certain MUCH will be made of the fact that Tae played songs for Hobi and Jungkook, recorded at Jungkook's house, and that JK even saw or had a hand in directing.

Much should be made of it as a really sweet and cute story of how members support each other when schedules allow. Instead, it'll be weaponized in comparison to the fact that JK didn't hear Jimin's sample songs early on (folks will cheerfully ignore he seemed *really* upset about that, though).

The reason much will be made about that is because JK has spent months and months in 2023 singing all of Jimin's songs, watching Jimin's content, asking Jimin to come spend time with him flirting naked in bed with him. There will be a NEED to downplay all that, and play up JK's involvement in Layover, crowing that those two share music with each other first (something they've done since they were teens).

Let it be. Don't let Ruiners ruin things.

Tae gave us a lot of anecdotes on You Quiz--including how much the members changed him, gave him strength, inspired him, comforted him. He talked about wanting to do a travel program with them in the future. Tae also shared really touching memories of his grandmother (something we will always have in common and that moves me deeply). And yes, Tae mentioned Jungkook again--in context, after being asked.

So let it be.

Let the members be human, let them have bonds with one another. They are all close and they all care about each other. We don't know what all they get up to every second of everyday, but if you take in all the evidence over time, you can draw a fair conclusion about what is likely more than friendship, and what is not. It's not a competition.

Let it be. You don't have to argue with fools. In fact, it's dishonorable to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed person. Don't take the focus off streaming Jimin's Like Crazy, hyping JK's projects, and now helping Tae's debut.

Celebrate what you want. Starve what you don't.

BTS all love and support each other. That's what ARMY does too.

So the earliest possible air date is August 31st. Knowing Toei, it may take a couple more weeks.

Bandai Spirits has Law, Teach and Bepo merches scheduled for late September. I assume they'll release after/around the time the conclusion episode airs? Not sure if there's any relation between the two since the figures are not spoilery. No Bepo update, unfortunately, gotta wait for the next Jump Festa in December for new figure previews..

IMO the episode won't be delayed beyond mid-September. Grab your tissues and get ready 😌

A Celebration for Army

This weekend I went on a trip to London. My original plan was to watch Totoro at the Babrican with some friends from work. (Highly recommend!) Whilst there (and seeing the price of hotels), I decided to make the most of it and managed to get myself a cheap ticket to see Hamilton the night before. (Highly recommended too!)  Whilst I was planning everything, two Hobi and Yoongi Birthday events were scheduled to be in London on the same weekend. Soooo I decided to add those to the itinerary too and went with some Army friends who were also going.

These two events had a certain feel to them. A feeling that I haven’t really exeperienced in an offline group setting since before The Festa Dinner. Sometimes there's been a lingering sadness at these events. You’re constantly reminded of *something* missing whilst speaking to your Army peers, because we're all experiencing or feeling the same thing. However, there was excitement and hope to these events instead. A focus on Jin’s return, Hobi's new album and the members’ future projects. It was a buzz that infected all of us as we discussed what would be coming in the next few months. We might have been there for Birthday events, but we were also celebrating something else at the same time: Their Return.

Mandatory military service.

18-24 months of service required of all able-bodied South Korean men aged 18 to 28.

Delayed so Kim Seokjin could continue being a member of BTS but now entering as a private citizen, not a member of Bangtan Sonyeondan.

It brought heartbreak to millions, no one more so than Grace Chu.

Of course, in private, this decision had been discussed and made very early on. Many discussions had taken place that Jin wanted to go into the military after their Maps of the Soul tour but then COVID hit, Butter and Dynamite arrived, Permission to Dance on Stage and then the FESTA announcement of their solo projects and then finally, finally, Busan.

Every time he had planned to go, there was a pushback and a delay and now he was finally going, December 13th 2022.

Privately, Grace had accepted it and had done her goodbyes to her boyfriend of four years. Together they had worked through their problems of being a couple and being in the biggest band ever seen, of Seokjin's insecurities of not being good enough, of Grace's problems with her identity. Together they had been through it all but now it would just be Grace, who would have to go through this another seven times.

It was the worst kind of heartache - knowing your loved one was only hours away yet on the front lines, limited phone calls or texts, days off were only a day and she wouldn't see him properly until 2024. Until that time, her schedule was packed to the rim with her own projects such as an album, a tour, photoshoots, contracts with designers, meetings and more. There wouldn't be time to understand the loss of one of her biggest supporters, there wouldn't be time to adjust to having none of them there.

It was a horrid awareness Grace was experiencing as she and the rest of BTS were saying goodbye.

Of course, they all put on brave faces, as they each took pictures with Seokjin and goofed off for the BANGTAN BOMB camera. It was easy to slip into the public persona even in front of families to starve off tears that threatened to spill over.

Hobi, understanding what was needed, managed to drag Jimin and Taehyung to distract the camera long enough for the couple to have their private moment (or as private as it was going to get).

"I'll contact you the moment I can," Seokjin's voice was muffled behind the mask he wore as he pulled Grace to his chest, allowing her to hide her face in it even if more a moment.

"And I'll keep you and ARMY updated as often as I can. Don't let Jungkook distract you too much, and work hard and send me photos of where you're going. And I'll make sure the guys are safe too. Oh and don't forget to eat, go home and see your parents and look after Min-Ji."

"Are you going away or am I?" Grace asked, chuckling as she reached up to use the cuff of her coat to wipe her cheeks. "And Jungkook won't leave me alone, I think he's pretty much moved in at this point."

It was just as hard for Jungkook. It had always been joked around that Seokjin was one of the main reasons Jungkook had stayed in BTS, he was the one who had raised the fifteen-year-old, helped him do his homework, take him to school, put up with his antics, and was Jungkook's safe place. He had been silent the whole day since they all arrived, barely able to say a word or two but he didn't need to.

Seokjin knew Jungkook's silence better than anyone.

I'll miss you. Don't get hurt and hurry back because it's going to hurt without you.

And Grace was exactly the same.

I'll miss you. I love you. Don't leave but I know you have to so hurry back because I can't do this life without you.

Seokjin pressed a kiss to Grace's forehead, knowing he couldn't do what he wanted to do while in front of everyone. But he didn't need to because Grace knew it all behind that kiss - I'll miss you as well and I'm proud of you.

Grace pulled away to let the boys continue their goodbyes and she used Namjoon's huge frame to take a moment to wipe her tears, to compose herself and slip back into her stage persona. Because it was easier to show that than it was to show what she was truly feeling.

Alone.

Namjoon glanced over his shoulder and gave his noona a gentle nudge to the shoulder, giving her his silent support. Yoongi came wandering over and reached up, making sure her mask was in place and gave her a look to say 'You've got this. We're here.'

Finally, Seokjin was called over to begin his entrance ceremony and Grace felt a hand slip into hers. She looked up to see the youngest, his eyes just as watery as hers even underneath that bucket hat and she gave his hand a squeeze back. Under his breath, he began humming Jin's Astronaut song causing her to smile.

It would hurt to do this seven more times, it would hurt to say goodbye over and over again and it would hurt to be standing on stage as the only member of BTS remaining but the countdown began to 2025 when all of them would be back in Grace's arms and they would be all together again.

She just had to wait.

Maxo was the one who, ofc, both fell first and fell harder. He got immediately hooked due to Forever's care for the ones around him and dedication to the investigation. Maxo was Going Through It when Forever was the temporary Leader of the Order

Forever actually considered Maxo as a date once or twice before the Festa Junina, he likes Maxo's company and how their personalities match and how they're so quick to get in synth with each other when they're brainstorming. Maxo often is a place of comfort to Forever since he's always open to listen to his worries

Ofc Forever suspects Maxo ever since Bad and Baghera commented about him might be a spy, but Forever can't bring himself to close his heart to Max, so he always has a turmoil in his chest when theorizing with him

Max seeks Forever's company a lot, and is often rewarded with it due to the fact Forever has a terrible sleep schedule. They got drunk and stupid together more than once at Las Casualonas after they spent hours late working on SOFIA

Forever's words to Maxo during the wedding were, surprisingly, very truthful to what he felt. He does care and wants Maxo happy, and he was happy to be the guy to make Max that happy during the party

Maxo is planning to ask Forever in marriage again, but this time together with a date and a better proposal

Forever knows the wedding was One Day Only, but he can't help but sometimes think how it would be if it was permanent. He likes the safety that someone actually loves him with similar intensity as he loves people around him

objectively I know felpac is canon at least on felps’ side but running into the moments where it’s canon apart from just the Festa Junina kiss is always so strange to me… I think because it’s such a rarepair in the fandom I forget sometimes it’s somewhat canon

(to be fair with polycule island there are a lot of ships that are “somewhat canon” but don’t go anywhere and are rarepairs within the fandom. so this is probably not unique to felpac pfft it’s just they’re always on my mind)

also i would argue that the way pac acts towards felps sometimes (flirting/flirting unprompted) + his feelings on polyamory makes it somewhat canon on his side, too, it’s just that felps doesn’t log in a lot and even when he did it didn’t really line up with cc!pac’s streaming schedule sadly so not really much time for things to develop. but also I could easily be looking at it with felpac tinted glasses here lol

Why do you think the available members didn’t go in person to the fireworks? I thought it was cute that all the members either filmed or called in to RM’s show but it seems like a wasted opportunity for them to be together with army, especially since Tae said he’d have liked to be there. The company keeps making these strange choices I have a hard time understanding.

Let's start by saying that they couldn't just show up. We agree on that, right?

With their level of fame and level of security needed to protect them in a big public event, this would have to be something pre-planned and not spontaneous.

As such, it also being a public area I'm not sure just how much control Hybe security had there, and what it entailed adding other members to the mix.

It's possible that to start with the others couldn't show up and even if they could on the day it was too late to do so.

Or it's possible that they had other schedules, engagements, and couldn't come.

Or it's possible they wanted to give RM a place in the spotlight.

Or it's possible that they didn't want to. Plain and simple.

Look, this 10th anniversary was kind of bitter sweet for them.

On the one hand they reached the mature age of 10 years as BTS.

on the other hand they reached 10 years as BTS but 2 members are in the army, another is away on tour, another is away in LA probably preparing for his first solo album, another two are doing who knows what. In any case they aren't together and can't all show up together. And maybe that's the reason they decided not to come. One member speaking for the rest is ok. But having an event with only part of the group present is something I feel they don't want to do.

Probably one of the reasons we didn't get a Festa dinner this year as well.

Another reason being them not wanting to talk when they can't do so freely.

We know they can't at the moment. I only hope that when the time comes, when we are on the other side of this shit, in 2025, that they will allow themselves to speak their minds without worrying about what the company thinks or wants (like not to say something that can effect the share prices, re: Festa dinner 2022), or what the politicians or public think, or what the fandom thinks. Like the mature international artists that they are.

Sorry, I digressed.

Bottom line, the most likely answer after all the bullshit reasons I just gave, is that they didn't want to be there. Cause if they really wanted, like really really wanted, well at the very least the 2 other members that were in Seoul at the time, they could have found a way to be there. No shade intended. They have their reasons, one of which I stated above, maybe others as well.
