A Curse for True Love
A note: Apologies for the sudden onslaught of Evajacks posts. This is what happens when you discover a series so late in the game.
After waiting for it for 2 1/2 weeks, I finally got to read A Curse for True Love. I have to spill all the feels I am feeling over this series, because they are many.
While not as good as BONA, there is still some really good material. This love story is one of the best that you can get from books that resemble fairytales. There is something so profound about it, and deep. I mean, you have the fact that you get both Evangeline and Jacks being victims of curses and danger. It was a true fight for true love. It reminded of some of my favorite fictional couples.
For the cursed angle, it was giving Captain Swan (but done better...yeah, I said it), as well as Snowing. With Jacks pushing Evangeline away to keep her safe from him, it was very similar to Dimitri pushing Rose away in Spirit Bound and Last Sacrifice, which I love. Let me add, Jacks watching Evangeline and longing from afar was reminiscent of Peter watching Mary Jane after being rescued in SM2, and the ending scene of the CW BatB pilot. I need more literature like that.
I just love the simplicity of this series. It's so straightforward; nothing convoluted like you see in certain romantasies. And I believe I saw a booktuber (at least I think it was this series) say that the stakes are more realistic and higher**, which I have to agree with. You have the FMC trying to find a second love she can be happy with, seemingly finds it, then becomes enamored with the MMC. She knows that he is unable to be with her, but is determined to find a way to be with him. With the MMC, he's wanted love, thought he found it, but she backstabbed him. Now he's bitter, and does nefarious things. However, he slowly falls for the FMC unexpectedly, but doesn't want to hurt her, thus pushing her away. It all changes when she is killed, and he goes back in time to fix it because of how much he loves her. But it all goes wrong when the FMC's false love takes her memories. Fast forward to MMC trying to thwart the husband, or any way FMC may be endangered, trying to protect her so she can live. However, he is going to make sure he doesn't try to interact with her too much, and makes plans to disappear from her life forever. It hurts him immensely, but, like before, feels he has to. She regains her memories, discovers his plans, and she has a race against time before he destroys the thing that allows him to love. There is lots of begging, confessions, pushing/pulling, and the like. She makes a move and BAM! Curse lifted. Only, after all of that, the false love kidnaps her and MMC has to still fight to be with her. Totally no big deal, right? LOL.
What I liked about the curse breaking is that they both had to believe in their love. At first I was confused as to why the cuff hurt him when Jacks tried to kiss Evangeline, but it's because that his second heart isn't in close proximity, so, he wasn't in his right mind. He probably didn't think she loved him the way he loved her. Subconsciously he likely did, yet it wasn't until she said those words and risked her life to physically show him.
Anyway, my whole point is this: Evajacks has now topped Feysand within my top 3 book OTPs in terms of overcoming odds and development. Seriously, the guy was going to destroy his ability to feel because he couldn't bear losing her again...at his hand. That is real sacrifice. What Rhysand did pales in comparison.
Anyway, here's my top 10 book couples.
Top 10 Book OTPs:
Romitri***-Vampire Academy
Haven and Stolas-Kingdom of Runes
Evajacks-Once Upon a Broken
Feysand-A Court of Thorns and Roses
Chaolaena (so fight me)-Throne of Glass
Warnette (gosh, this was hard to place so low)-Shatter Me
Kane and Arwen-A Dawn of Onyx
Jurdan-The Cruel Prince
Mac and Jericho-Fever series
Sera and Ash (would have been higher if not for Fire in the Flesh)-Flesh and Fire
**Edit: Okay, I lied; it was a different book. But, the belief still stands. Also, unlike the booktuber, I don't see this as a guilty-pleasure series
***Romitri is the first book couple I fell in love with. They have to be number one, no matter how I feel about the others.

I’m howling laughing at this right now.
Elain, bound and gagged at the enemy camp. Azriel holds her in his arms as he and Feyre prepare to run and there is not even a tremor of fear on Elain? “Elain glanced between us, but did not tremble. Did not cringe.” ELAIN? The one who was SHAKING when she had to face Grayson???
She even kicks the beasts in the face when Az is trying to fly off with them — let’s review this for a second. One would THINK she’d be cowering in on herself, (like the other girl Feyre wants to rescue, is just kind of useless in this situation, but ELAIN fights back). She doesn’t tremble. She’s in Azriels arms, completely trusting him, so much so that she yells at the girl “if you want to live, grab onto him”.
Bro you can not OTP any better than this lol. I’m cracking up that I missed SO MUCH on my first read through. I was too swept up by Feysand, so it’s fine, but this is too much ✋🏻

Clare Beddor bansee...Girl you are galaxy brained omg!!! Please tell me we're getting Clare and Nesta friendship and Feysand dunking!
I love how you didn't have the others hide the fact that Feyre was the one to give Clare's name but they didn't vilify her either even if they could've and all hate what she's done. Same thing with Rhysand. They tell Clare everything and she's the one who's allowed to be angry or grateful, and she's very angry! Love it so much and I can't wait to see her confront them.
Also Azalea x Tarquin is new otp those two would look soooo good 👀 I need more
Thank you anon! I'm so happy everyone is loving banshee Clare. Justice for my baby girl she literally did nothing wrong!
Yeah I've already had Feysand creepers arguing everyone is taking the Night Court in bad fate which like...They're allowed to?! Feyre destroyed Spring, indirectly caused Daphne's death and didn't stand up for Nesta, then Rhysand wants to be High King (hahahahahahahaha no), almost causes Tamlin to kill himself and locked Nesta up and forced her to help with his bullshit schemes. They're allowed to hate them and worst. But ya know if this was Sarah's book she'd say Spring are the villains for being mad. Though luck dudes my name ain't Sarah and I'm not excusing them.
I had the squad tell her everything upfront not only because she deserves to know but so that the Feysand crowd can't say they didn't tell her the truth that Rhysand 'helped' (would've helped more if you didn't tell Amarantha anything but you stupid fuck) and that Feyre didn't she would die. Clare gets the whole truth but she's still allowed to be mad and say 'Nah fuck them, their little oops cost me my human life and my entire family. They going down'
Confrontation will take a while but we shall get more Clare, both her being besties with Nesta learning about fae life and coming to terms with everything.
Oh glad to hear you like Azalea and Tarquin. It's one of my fave plot threads and I'm looking forward to writing them more. Sarah really made this gorgeous yet shy dude and did nothing with him because she was busy thirsting over Rhys *gag* I wanna change that, plus I feel he'd vibe with a smart yet flirty wife.

Also let's not forget that Sara was a huge shipper of Mor/Az until she chose her character to be queer—Az as far as we know, he has always shown romantic interest for Mor and nothing else for a very long timeeeeee.
For her he would sacrifice his sanity and rationality to protect her—Az is not a soft baby, yes he's polite but let's remember this man can murder you without any second thoughts—I'll be scared as hell of him.
Do you want to pair this type of man to the sweetest girl in the planet? And yes I know the appeal of the bad boy and good girl-they look good aestethycally but nothing else, maybe if Elain was shown to have at least..a bolder side(not sexually but the personality) a dark side maybe I could give them a try but I like femenine and gentle characters☺
Come on you prefer Az over Lucien—the sexiest man in the world, a gentle man, HE HAS FIRE IN HIS BLOOD(THE AUTHOR IS FORESHADOWING😏🤭) and he's a bad boy in a sense( this man is a flirt, he's sassy and A GENTLEMAN, his loyalty has no bounds) that would never ask Elain to change for him, maybe she would become more confident by his side and El can make him feel relaxed because this boy hasn't known peace for A VERY LONG TIME.
Honestly they are my OTP😆😆😆..they are so unique and original..of Nessian, Feysand and El/riel 's dynamics I've read so many that I've got BOREDDDDD.
Everyone says all three sisters ending up with their Mates is cliche but what is more cliche is all three sisters developing ocassionally dark, vengeful personalities to make them a match for their dark, brutal warrior Illyrian males. You're so right, E/riel would be more of the same and it would be redundant coming from yet another Archeron sister. Nesta can be dark when it comes to her enemies and Cassian isn't even the darkest of the Bat Boys, Azriel is. So if Elain were to end up with him, would it make sense that she's almost the complete opposite of Nesta? How does that work? Az's spy sessions do lead to torture sessions and people truly think Elain is going to be right there beside him for that? Staying in a court as a member of the IC where Feyre has already stated she only looks at Elain as a "pleasant companion" even after they'd grown closer? Lucien and Elain don't need to change anything about who they are to be a match for one another. Sure they'll grow, they'll learn to stand up for themselves as individuals. But they are naturally suited to one another and there's no mental twister going on to make them fit together. Not to mention the diversity they bring to the series, where not every single main character is about training and being a warrior and getting revenge against all those who have wronged them through the most painful of ways possible. And they both deserve to find their people, the ones who look at them as the most important part of their lives rather than an afterthought.

hey tabby! 🫀anon here, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and with such kindness at that🥹
>>Gosh, I hope you aren’t disappointed by it—just as a heads up it might be a little slow in parts but I hope you enjoy it :)
First off, Gosh, I don't think I COULD be disappointed by ANYTHING that you write, like honest to God, your work heals me. I'm just having a hard time deciding if I want to wait cbmthy out till it's complete or if I should just start it already 😭 because I know I'll just want to tear my hair off if the latest chapter ends in like a cliffhanger or something.
>>(I loved him being cold, and cruel, and kind of flirtatious 🫢😳)
💯 i mean, sameee gurl sameee 👌🏻
honestly, I loved Rhysand's character soo much throughout the 1st book even tho sjm did not exactly make him seem like a "main" character or one who's on the "good" side in it, and I was even prepared for him as a villain of sorts? like, I don't mean Amarantha or Hybern level of villain, but deffo like badguy with ulterior motives that don't really affect the world in a bad sense but would definitely resort to immoral ways to accomplish said ulterior motives kind of bad? so kinda like an anti hero ig? (sorry if I'm not making sense, it's just English isn't my first language and I didn't know how to translate it best. also, I'm also not very good with words 🥲) which might be why I absolutely loved your dark!Rhys fics, Gods were they amazing, thankyou for writing them luv🤌🏻
>>I never hated Tamlin though
oh I'm so glad somebody resonates with me on this, now I don't know if you still like/don't dislike him after all the books or if you only meant through the first book, but I personally would love to see his character explored a lot more and think there's a lot of scope but for some reason everywhere I see, there's only hate for him(mostly) and I hate that some people judge me(and a lot of other readers) solely on the basis of characters we like/dislike? needless to say, I wouldn't say I hated tamlin either, infact I still enjoy feylin fics a lot even tho I don't get to read very many of them. it's just that back when I was reading ACOMAF I just NEEDED my otp(feysand) to happen fsr lol😅 honestly I don't think I'd have minded all that much if feylin was infact endgame, I'd just have been a little sad is all lol🥲 because how many otps of mine just didn't happen?(😭the answer is in a good high tens)
>>I mean to be fair, I don’t really watch films or tv shows at all anymore, and until acotar I hadn’t read many books so I think I might have been oblivious to those tropes/cliches
I so completely understand this bit, because personally, I'm exhaustingly clueless about a lot of media that people are usually just raving on and on about and it's not usually because I don't want to watch it, but there are these attention deficit tendencies that love visiting me on a regular basis that just won't let me sit down, load a show and watch it till the end😭 I mean, I watched the 1st iron man movie 16 years after it first came out so🥲and it wasn't for a lack of trying, I've been meaning to watch it for the past 8 years or so and I just got around to it. honestly it's a miracle I read all the Acotar books to the end lol
>>Thank you so much for writing in!!
Thank YOU for actually taking out the time to read it AND reply to it, in such detail at that. i truly mean it when I say you're one of the kindest individuals I've interacted with online and you inspire me to pass that kindness on as well.
ps: this isn't exactly an ask but I just couldn't NOT reply to your message, so I'm just glad you read it, you really don't have to reply to it, I'm just happy to have sent this message on it's way.
we all love you, Tabby.
—🫀
‘First off, Gosh, I don't think I COULD be disappointed by ANYTHING that you write, like honest to God, your work heals me.’
😭🫂🫂🫂🫂 thank you so much 😭🧡💛
‘I'm just having a hard time deciding if I want to wait cbmthy out till it's complete or if I should just start it already 😭 because I know I'll just want to tear my hair off if the latest chapter ends in like a cliffhanger or something.’
Oooh gosh, I guess it’s up to you? There’s still a lot of the story left to write—I’d say we’re probably either half or two thirds of the way there in terms of storyline and events that will happen. It’s not going to be over any time soon, basically, which is both exciting and pretty scary 😭
Honestly I think the tension is in the first half, if that makes sense? (Which it probably doesn’t since you don’t know reader’s fate, but 🤷) There’s going to be a ‘half’ chapter which adds in some contexts to reader’s history, but I think after chapter 15, that should be where the tension relaxes a bit? I like to think that in *very* broad terms, chapters 1 through 15 are the ‘hurt’ ones, and 16 onward will be the ‘comfort’ ones? There are still going to be intense moments but she might not have to be on her own anymore (provided she learns to seek help when she needs it)
‘but deffo like badguy with ulterior motives that don't really affect the world in a bad sense but would definitely resort to immoral ways to accomplish said ulterior motives kind of bad?’
Yes! Like I’m happy with how Feysand turned out, but I would have been fine if Rhys stayed ‘evil’ for a bit longer 🫢 just a few more scenes of him being super scary and Feyre being wary of him 🤭
I feel like even as soon as he first visited her in her cell, there was a suggestion he wasn’t that bad? Especially after we learned only one person bet on her winning? Ignoring how acotar characters would write that off as a whim, from a storytelling standpoint that’s a pretty clear way of singling a character out and making them significant 🤭
‘(sorry if I'm not making sense, it's just English isn't my first language and I didn't know how to translate it best. also, I'm also not very good with words 🥲)’
Girl if you hadn’t straight up said English isn’t your first language, I would’ve had no idea 😭
‘which might be why I absolutely loved your dark!Rhys fics, Gods were they amazing, thankyou for writing them luv🤌🏻’
Thank you so much!!! Yes, I have to say there is a certain appeal to writing dark characters, but only if they have a soft spot of some kind for the reader 😭🧡💛
‘oh I'm so glad somebody resonates with me on this, now I don't know if you still like/don't dislike him after all the books or if you only meant through the first book,’
I didn’t hate him in the first book or any other after that, BUT, I did definitely get frustrated with him during the High Lords’ meeting 😭 I kind of wish we got his perspective on that, or at least more about his character? Because Feyre dismantling stability within the Spring Court was quite a brash move I think, and one she might have decided against if she wasn’t having to deal with so many other matters as well as sorting through her own emotions? Because she definitely went through a lot 😭
I guess I feel that Tamlin has a lot of anger in general, which can make him impulsive and volatile at times—like when Feyre first realised she could make a shield in his office—and I’d love to see Sarah explore that more!!
‘but I personally would love to see his character explored a lot more and think there's a lot of scope’
Yes! Exactly!! There’s so much we don’t know about his character and so much potential to spin new stories? Ugh I would love that so much 😭
‘and I hate that some people judge me(and a lot of other readers) solely on the basis of characters we like/dislike?’
I mean, I think it’s made more complicated because of immersion and how emotionally connected some people feel to characters? I was having a conversation about how we all read the same books but it’s interesting there’s such a vast range of opinions? Like some people really hate Nesta, which I can see why I suppose but I personally love her 🧡💛
I think the problem starts when people get too attached to characters that they’re unable to speak objectively about them? I’m definitely guilty of this too though 😭 one of my friends read acotar and was saying something about Az and how they didn’t like him and I straight up asked them to stop because I knew it would upset me 😭 (they did, which was kind of them ☹️)
‘it's just that back when I was reading ACOMAF I just NEEDED my otp(feysand) to happen fsr lol😅’
No I get that 🤩
The tension being set up both in the one bed at the inn scene and the Court of Nightmares moment just made the resolution really enjoyable for me! Not so much the smut part, but when Rhys finds her in the cabin and they end up having a heart to heart, and Rhys tells her more about his history? It just made me feel so happy for them so I know what you mean about wanting them to get together!
‘but there are these attention deficit tendencies that love visiting me on a regular basis that just won't let me sit down, load a show and watch it till the end’
I don’t have it to that extent, but I know that on a smaller scale, I like having music or videos playing in the background while I work? Especially while doing more domestic work like the washing up, changing my sheets, generally tidying etc. it makes the process so much easier, and I won’t get bored of the work or feel guilty for relaxing during ‘work hours’ on weekends
‘I've been meaning to watch it for the past 8 years or so and I just got around to it.’
8 YEARS?? 🫢
Well done for keeping up the determination to actually watch it! 🎉
‘Thank YOU for actually taking out the time to read it AND reply to it, in such detail at that.’
I honestly cannot explain how much I love getting to speak with you. Genuinely, it’s so wonderful being able to interact with other people who like acotar and especially getting to discuss and debate different elements of the story has got to be one of my favourite things about fandom 🫂🧡💛
‘we all love you, Tabby.’
My eyes are prickling for some reason ☹️
Thank you for writing in and taking the time to read through the fics on here ☹️🫂🧡💛

I saw in the tags of one of your more recent posts that you couldn't find more pro-Feylin content on AO3. Have you heard of the OTP:True search function? By typing in "otp:true" in the Any Field tag when you look for Feyre Archeron/Tamlin fics (or for any pair, really), the search function will filter out any fics that don't feature Feylin as a pair. Basically it filters out the Feylin tag if it's in second place or further back, especially if Feysand tags are in first place.
The upside is that it worked! There was only one "unhappy ending" fic I saw for Feylin, but the author made it clear Rhysand was not part of it. The downside of this experiment is that there are only 16 fics according to my search results. :( But now you can this tip to find whatever OTP pair you want. :)
Thank you! I hadn't really heard of that trick before, but I've found an unfinished Feylin fics (and a few short fics that have since been deleted) that were also tagged FeyrexRhysand, so... it's rough

Hey LB!
I recently came across your blog and fics and I just wanted to tell you that I love, love, love that you leave little comments on each and every fic or art or whatever you see. I’m sure that the creators appreciate you doing it for their work. I love your fics as well, especially ACoFD. What I loved the most was Rhys POVs. We love a man who simps hard for his wife.
I would also like to tell you that my otp used to be feysand but now it’s ‘the lonely apology’. The dynamic between you and mb makes me very giddy and I love reading all your posts to and about each other.
Gosh, I’ve been staring doe-eyed at this ask since you sent it to me yesterday 🥺 I kept meaning to respond but was having trouble articulating my brain and then it got buried in Feysand month asks/notifications.
Anyway I’m so happy that you love my fics and I really appreciate that you took the time to send me this sweet message! 🥰 I make a conscious effort to leave a comment on fics and art when I have a chance because as a content creator myself, I know how much it means to get even the smallest positive comments. And especially considering how many people have gone out of their way to show me support, I really try to pass it along. I know I’m not the only fic writer who does it, and I truly believe that sense of community is our little way of fighting to make this fandom a more welcoming place.
And I’m with you anon, my otp is also LB x @separatist-apologist 😌😍 I could write pages about how much I love her. She’s been such a bright presence in both my fandom and personal life and the ONLY thing stopping me from pulling a Rhysand and forcing her to marry me is the very sizeable ocean between us 😭
P.S. make sure you’re following @mbappreciationmonth. I’m not affiliated in any way 👀 I just… firmly support the cause

On the Edge of Losing You
Tumblr media
Thank you @azrielshadowssing for organizing the Summer ACOTAR Writing Circle. This is my first time participating, and my first collab fic in general. I am thrilled to be kicking this off with my OTP, Feysand. Writers of part two and three, you are more than welcome to reuse the banner I created or make your own if you don’t like my theme.
Also a huge thanks to my beta readers, @deepsleep07 and @headcanonheadcase for the critique that really helped form this piece. Without further ado, I hope you all enjoy it!
Summary: Feyre and Tamlin are set to say their I dos on the beautiful beaches of Cancún. The problem—Feyre's wedding jitters have escalated to the revival of a crush on her best friend a few days before the wedding.
CW: None
Word Count: 3,318
Part 2 (@thegloweringcastle) // Part 3 (TBA) // Ao3
Chapter I: Do I Say I Do?
“Careful, Rhys. Someone might start thinking you have ill intentions.” He knew Feyre had sensed him the second he appeared on the surf, lingering a few feet from where she lounged in her beach chair that sat low to the ground, her long legs extended so her feet were cooled by the rising tide.
Haloed by the July sun wearing only her bikini she looked… He wasn’t ready to think about how Feyre looked. Not with that sun glinting off an emerald-topped engagement band she never took off. Not with her fiancé throwing a fit every time Rhys was within a ten mile radius of her. For someone who had secured an engagement and was beginning his vacation that preluded a disgustingly grand destination wedding, Tamlin failed to view Rhys as anything other than a threat.
He snagged a camping chair and set it so it sat parallel to hers and he wouldn’t have to get so low to the ground to join her. “You’re looking a bit pink already. You know you’re hopeless when it comes to tanning, don’t you?”
Her lips turned up into a small smile as she rose to a sitting position. “I took a dip earlier. And it’s been a few hours since I applied.”
He took the sunscreen bottle from the pocket of his chair and passed it to her. “No need to be burnt on your wedding day.”
Her eyes snapped back to him, the set of her mouth telling him she didn’t approve of the bitter note in his voice. “Rhys—”
“I know. He’s perfect and hasn’t shown any of the red flags I mentioned from the moment you met, right?”
“Rhys!” She was red-faced for an entirely different reason now. “You are my best friend, but it is not your place to worry about my marriage.” She took his hands in hers. “You are my best friend,” she repeated, “and he will be my husband in a matter of days. I want both of you in my life. But this tension between you has to be resolved.”
This tension. A kind way of putting Rhys’ loose tongue about all of the faults he saw in his best friend’s fiance. And Feyre, stubborn as she was, refused to listen to him this time. He didn’t want to control her. He just wanted her to see sense.
“Right. Call me when he doesn’t find a guy talking to you to be a criminal offense.”
“He’s protective,” she insisted, breaking eye contact as she rubbed the sunscreen into her arms. “There’s nothing wrong with protecting someone you love.” He opened his mouth to argue again. “I’m done with this, Rhys. We can speak pleasantly or you can leave.” She sighed, turning to bare her back to him as lifted her braid. “Help me with my back please.”
Fuck. After the conversation they just had about her “protective” fiancé? He really didn’t feel like dealing with the huffing and puffing today. “Feyre, seriously?”
“Oh stop it. It’s never been a problem before now. I always miss spots if I do it alone. If Tamlin’s your concern he won’t be back for a while. Even if he was, he’d see reason.” He didn’t think either of them really believed that. “It’s not a problem.”
No, it hadn’t been a problem. Then they'd gotten older and he found himself crushing on her. And that crush grew. They hit their teens and his sweet friend who was once all knees and elbows from too few meals was standing in her prom dress, taking his breath away.
His mother had made sure Feyre and her sisters were cared for when she saw the signs the Archeron family tried so hard to hide. Things got better, even if their father took it as an insult until the day he died. Their father’s feelings aside, they made friends and had food in their bellies. And Rhys bonded with all of them. But things had always run deeper with Feyre. Her older sisters teased and teased her for it as children, but there had never been anything to act on.
She had been objectively attractive, of course. More so than her sisters. But one doesn’t think that of their best friend. Rhys didn’t let himself think that way. Not until she came down those stairs on prom night. He could remember every detail, a girl of sixteen attending the school dance in his senior year. She was a vision in a gown of midnight blue and silver.
He finally saw her as a woman he hadn’t been able to look back since. Even after he graduated and the world pushed them apart for years on end. There had been other women, college flings and bar hookups. But none of them were Feyre.
Here they were at twenty-six and twenty-eight, both a little wiser and in control of their own lives. And the honest truth was he couldn’t focus on anything around her. If she hadn’t announced she was dating Tamlin six months ago, he might have acted on those growing feelings by now. Yet here they were, lounging on the private beach in Cancún with a whirlwind romance dropping Feyre at that altar. If she couldn’t see the timeframe as a red flag he didn’t think anything would change her mind.
“Rhys.”
Scanning the beach for the blond bastard, he obeyed, rubbing the sunscreen into her back as quickly as he could, trying very hard not to think about how he really wanted to run his hands over her. Slowly, not leaving an inch of skin unmapped. He shook the thought away. “There. You should be covered.”
“Thanks.” She offered him the bottle. “Need some?”
“Sure.” He came here to hang out, after all.
She leaned back in her chair again, folding one arm behind her head. “So, what took you so long to fly in?”
He chuckled. “Other than the fact I’m a full time professor in the height of summer courses, grading a buttload of essays for Astronomy 101? Some of those students…” He shook his head.
“Girls?” Feyre asked with a knowing smirk. He wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the rest of her assumption. “You’re the youngest teacher in the department, Rhys. They’re failing because they're staring at your pretty face instead of the whiteboard.”
He snorted, not ready to admit there had been a student or two who scrawled a ten digit number on the back of their final. “Yeah, well, flirting never got anyone an A.” He squeezed her hand. “I got here as fast as I could. Whatever disagreements I may have with Tamlin, you know I wouldn’t miss this. I said I’d be there for you through everything good and bad. This fits the bill.”
Even if he pictured himself on Tamlin’s side of the altar every time he saw the wedding invitation on his apartment’s fridge door. “I wanted to ask you—”
Before she could finish, a high-pitched squeal pierced the air. “About time! Get over here!”
Feyre jumped as white sand sprayed up onto her, clinging to the fresh sunscreen. “Mor, really!”
He saw a flash of blonde before his cousin was barreling into his arms, giggling maniacally. With her traveling so much it had been an age since they saw each other. It had been her dream to explore the best of life overseas and it seemed to do her some good. But then, any freedom must feel like heaven, growing up with a father like Kier. There were many days Rhys still ached to throttle his uncle for keeping Mor on such a tight leash. The stern hand his own father took seemed forgiving when his cousin finally opened up about everything in their early college days. Feyre had been the one to pry it out of her, simultaneously convincing Mor to lean on the found family who cared about her so much.
She was better for it now, bright-eyed and cheerful most days they talked in person or on a video chat. “Where’s Cassian and Az?” she asked. “They were here an hour ago.”
“Looking for some activities. You know it’s a crime asking men to just relax on the beach,” Feyre jested, picking up some sort of fruity cocktail she’d ordered. How she and Mor could tolerate them was beyond him. “This one’s only sitting here because he feels obligated to be nice to me.”
 He frowned. “You know that’s not true. I—”
“Rhysand.” He grimaced at the too-familiar voice behind him, ignoring Feyre’s glare and its silent demand that he keep playing nice. “So glad you could finally join us.” Though his gait could almost be considered casual, there was no denying he was once again using his own body as a barrier between Rhys and Feyre. “Enjoying your stay?”
“I just flew in, but I’m sure it will be a delight. Thank you for so graciously inviting me.”
“You’re very welcome.”
“If you two are finished,” Feyre groaned. “Rhys, can you walk with me for a minute? Just down the beach?”
Tamlin’s body locked, a vicious glare in his eyes aimed at Rhys. How could he turn the lady down now? “It would be my pleasure, Feyre darling.”
She smiled, reaching for her dark cover up, despite the lack of wind and the noon sun beating down. It wasn’t his place to comment on that. Even if he felt it very much was his place to characterize the man his best friend intended to spend the rest of her life sharing a home with.
Feyre was silent at first, watching the birds soaring ahead of them. He didn’t pry, waiting until she was ready to share what needed to be shared. “I love you. You’re my best friend.”
“Yes?”
She swallowed. “So much of this has been planned by… friends. I let things go, when it came to the technicalities of the wedding. Ianthe has been… helpful.” He suppressed a snort. Just days ago, Feyre had been moaning and groaning about how Tamlin’s old friend and apparent officiant couldn’t keep her nose in her own business. “I just…”
He paused, gently taking her hand and squeezing it. “Are things okay? Are you having doubts?”
“About marrying Tamlin? No. I’m just feeling off-kilter I guess. Caught up in a whirlwind of planning and out of control. I just want to hit the pause button and make my own choice on something, but I don’t even know the first thing I’d change. I need an anchor. Something they haven’t thought of yet.”
He furrowed his brow. “And you think I can help?”
“Yes. Before Tamlin sticks it on Lucien or something. I don’t want anyone’s feelings hurt.” He cocked his head. “I don’t have my father anymore. And even if I did… things were strained when I got older. And then he died before things could mend. Rhys, would you walk me down the aisle?”
And if that wasn’t a punch to the gut.
He cast a nervous look over his shoulder. “Feyre, are you sure?”
She nodded, lacing her fingers through his. “It’ll be fine, Rhys. He knows I want you in my life. I know things will get better for you two. And I should have some say in my own wedding, shouldn’t I?”
“Of course, but…” He shook his head. He couldn’t and wouldn’t try to stop the wedding. Feyre was smart. She had to know Tamlin well enough to feel safe if she had agreed to marry him. So he would step aside. He would do this one last thing for her, even if he broke his own heart in the process. “I’d be honored, Feyre.”
~~~~~
“You did what?”
She sighed as she opened the door to the bathroom. “Tamlin, you said you were going to try. You aren’t trying. Not even slightly.”
“That arrogant piece of—”
“My best friend, you mean?”
He let out a huff. “Rhysand,” he hissed, “has no place walking you down the aisle. That’s—”
“That’s whose job, Tamlin? Certainly not my father’s any longer. Or did you expect Lucien who I’ve known for a matter of a few months to do it? Rhys and Mor and Cassian and Az will always be my family. They aren’t going anywhere, no matter how many fits you throw about it.”
“Your sisters are an option, of course.”
“Tamlin, don’t. What’s done is done. On our wedding day Rhys will be my escort. And you will keep your mouth shut about it and keep a smile on your face.”
“You have other friends, Feyre. You and Ianthe get along well.”
“Oh do we? I’m sure you know my feelings so well when it comes to tolerating her.” He reared back. “Ianthe will keep batting her eyes and paying compliments as long as you let her leech off of you, Lucien hasn’t even tried to hug me because you probably threatened to cut his arms off for doing so. Tamlin, you will stop this overbearing asshole behavior or I will not marry you.”
Faster than she could react, he lunged, red-faced and wild-eyed. His grip on her arm was bruising. While she was all fired up and ready to lay things out he had been stewing with every word. “I am doing what’s best for you,” he snarled. And that was the wake up call.
God, had Rhys been right? Was it taking the cogs turning just days before her wedding to see the red flags as Rhys called them?
“You are trying to control me. And I will not let you. Now let me go.” Seemingly in a daze, he uncurled his hand from around her wrist, the pale print from his hand beginning to pinken again. “I’ll be back later.”
“Feyre.”
“I said I’ll be back,” she snapped, shoving her feet into her flip-flops. “Do not follow me and do not send Lucien like some hound on my trail. I need some space.”
One thing. She asked one thing of this wedding and it was that her best friend be more than another name on the absurdly long guest list. What a crime it was. Down where the beach started to soften, she removed her shoes, letting the sand sift through her toes. Minutes or miles she walked with nothing more than her thoughts and a nocturnal choir around her. While the silence might have bothered most, She had always found peace in a quiet night.
Feyre sank to the sand, leaning back on her hands and tilting her head to view the sky above her. She was lucky the busy lights were on the other side of the resort. Here on their side, even with the light pollution day and night she had a chance to enjoy the star-flecked unknown. She was hopeless to identify constellations without her favorite astronomy professor of course, but they were still pretty to look at alone.
“You can see Lupus from here.” She jumped slightly, whipping her head over her shoulder. “Sorry if I startled you. Can I sit with you?” Rhys asked.
“Always.” She sat up so they could sit shoulder to shoulder and he reached for her hand, frowning when she jolted away and rubbed it instinctively. The tenderness there scared her more than she wanted to admit. And Rhys was staring. “What?”
“What’s wrong with your hand?”
“Nothing.”
“Feyre.”
“Rhys.”
“I know you too well to fall for your lies.” She bit her lip, casting her eyes to the ground, only looking back up when he gave a heavy sigh. “Ara.”
“What?”
“Ara, it’s almost straight ahead. And there’s Corvus there.”
“You’re speaking Latin to me.” He snorted at the frankly terrible joke, nudging her shoulder good-naturedly. She slumped against him, exhaustion taking over. “You’re going to have to carry me back,” she mumbled. “In the morning.” He tensed beside her. “I can’t go back there tonight. It would just be weird.”
“Why?” She shrugged. “Feyre.”
“He doesn’t like you.”
His lip curled slightly against her head. “I think I’ll survive.”
“We were fighting over it. You. All of you. He has his bubble, and if he can’t control the people in it… I didn’t realize how deep it ran until I told him you would give me away. I’ve never seen him so…”
The word hung between them as he reached for her wrist again. She wondered if it would bruise by morning. If Ianthe would try to dab a bit of powder over it before Mor showed up and had a cow. Feyre didn’t know what she would do at that point.
“He’s been stressed lately. Between the wedding and work and—”
“Do not make excuses for him.” The edge in his voice put a new heaviness between them. “Do not pretend this is okay, Feyre. You want to know why you’ve never seen him so violent? It’s because cowards like that need control to feel they hold the power. That they’re worth something. He let you speak your mind this long to make sure he had you for good, but the second you say ‘I do’ everything is going to change.”
If Tamlin’s anger was the strike of a storm, Rhys’ was the deadly calm before it. Chilled as death even as those violet eyes glinted against the moon. He twisted in the sand, cupping her face and pressing his brow to hers, as he had done so many times to calm her from her panic. This time he needed that calm.
“Do not make excuses. Do not wait for that stress to go away. And Feyre, please do not marry a man who will free his temper the moment you kiss him on that altar.”
She twisted her lower body to face him fully, stroking a hand over the short stubble at his jaw. It had started as a teasing touch when he was just old enough to start growing facial hair, later a habit she couldn’t resist maintaining. Until she met Tamlin and all the fond habits and touches earned scowls and glares. That hand teasing his stubble rose to run through his hair, a touch to sooth. It still seemed to work.
“All I’m saying is that six months is awfully fast for a wedding,”
“Oh, is that all you’re saying, Rhys?”
She pulled at his hair slightly and his eyes fluttered open again. If she didn’t know better, she would say  time had turned back for them. They were kids again and he was taking her to his senior prom, despite her only being a sophomore.  Coming home from the dance she’d joked on her front porch that they were at the point where he was supposed to kiss her goodnight.
She’d been the typical sixteen year old, crushing on a senior. Except that senior was her best friend. Romantically off limits was an unspoken rule of friendship to them, no matter what their friends and family thought. But for a moment—one fraction of a second—the world paused, giving her a glimpse of a boy that wanted to kiss her back.
She never saw that boy again.
Until now.
Days before her wedding he was staring at her like she hung the moon. Like she was the only thing keeping his world turning, as ludicrous as that seemed. But god, she wanted someone to want every part of her that badly. Looking into his eyes now, she realized all of the things she’d been compromising.
“Feyre, what are you doing?” Her hands slid down to cup his face. “Feyre.”
Every moral she had was screaming for her to stop. She was an engaged woman and kissing her teenage crush could be the biggest mistake of her life. And yet the devil on her shoulder spurred her on.
And Feyre listened, kissing Rhys for the first time. Only the stars could damn her tonight.
Rowaelin, Feysand or Bryathalar- which one do you think is more healthy? I feel like Bryathalar are just more healthy than Rowaelin and Feysand because at least they do almost everything together and they do voice their concerns instead of being silent. I love their whole "we're a team" thing as well. I'm still meh with Bryce though, because she doesn't really consider Hunt's feelings and his valid concerns and instead blindly follows a dead friend who was never true with her anyway. Are they my favorite? No, I prefer Rowaelin, but I'm not gonna lie and say their relationship is healthier compared to Bryathalar. About Feysand..I think the reason why Feysand ain't it for me is mainly because of Rhys, especially after acosf. Feyre might've done things that are questionable and she does annoy me with her constant worshipping, but Rhys is worse and wouldn't it have been for acomaf I think I would've disliked Feysand.
You?
mmmm I gotta be honest, I don't really care which couple is healthier. Rowaelin is still my sjm OTP and they were dicks to each other, so like you I prefer them despite whatever crap they have done. Bryce annoys me too much to ship bryathalar (quinlar?), and I need to see some serious changes to feysand before I go back to putting them in my #2 sjm otp spot. I'm not too worried about feysand though, because relationships have ups and downs. Like serious ups and serious downs. Maybe Rhys will see some consequences, maybe he won't, but the reasons they got together will still be there!
2, 7, 15 for the unpopular opinion ask game?
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
I don't know if they're popular, but again, V/ssien. This makes me sound like such a hater, I just think they're pals.
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
Honestly no, but there are things I used not to be able to stand that now I like. Feysand, for example. When I came here I was not a fan and now I have my little fics and my little thoughts. The trick is to just take all my real life issues and shove them deep, deep down and enjoy things for what they are.
Also I find I have more fun if I can acknowledge the problems AND just admit I still like it. I have problems with Nessian, I still ride for them, too.
rank your favorite acotar ships?
1. Elucien! My number one! My loves! The epitome of a slow burn. Of a courtly romance. The otp!
2. Feysand. I don't feel as passionate about them as I once did, but I'll always love them for how I used to love them you know. Acomaf Feysand were so good!
And that's about it tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ all the other ships I'm kinda neutral/indifferent about/like but don't feel any real passion for them OR straight up don't like
1 through 10 for the salty asks <3
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
Rowaelin. I’m sorry I just don’t see the appeal with Rowan at all. I have tried but he and Rowaelin do nothing for me.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
Main ones are Malina and Theon x Sansa - I just don’t see it romantically but I do enjoy their friendship. I’m also starting to feel this way about Gwynriel too 🤷🏻‍♀️
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Yes and I’ve blocked them. I usually give people a few chances, but if they keep posting stuff that annoys me I have no problem unfollowing and blocking.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
i have so many but the ones that genuinely make my skin crawl and jon/sa, el/riel, ner/is and sn/ape x her/mione.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
I mean I never shipped el/riel but I could have been ok with it. but then all the post acowar shit went down in the fandom.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
Yes! I still don’t like Rowaelin or Feysand but there have been fics and fanart that has made me briefly reconsider those ships. Malina also has had some really good edits!
And then not ship related, but smtb has got me dumping over Eris 😊
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*
Never, because I am a perfect angel who always right 😇 lmao jk. Not recently, but years ago one one of my old blogs I used to get anon hate all the time because of shipping, mostly bc of hp ship wars.
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
There’s so many, I actually am drawing a blank lol. I really hate the “secretly good guy trope” so fucking much. So it’ really shouldn’t be a surprise that I hate Sn/ape, Er/is and Rh/ys. I actually really liked Rhys in Acotar until under the mountain when he started helping Feyre and then I was like ugh BORING!
I also hate Dean and Logan from Gilmore Girls, fuck those guys.
10. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
HP really and everything related to it. Just talking about it in this ask made me angry.
Gwynriel - I have so many mixed feelings about that ship, but the ship war has really made me hate them - the ship and Azriel, never Gwyn she is my angel baby.
Lysaedion - for reasons completely unrelated to the books or fandom. One of my friends made a comment about Aedion years ago and I haven’t been able to look at him the same way since.
Star Wars - I recently unblocked the tag and started positing about it again, but I honestly the last Jedi left such a bad taste in my mouth, I’m still bitter about it.
