I watched the stream and my Japanese friend helped me translate the few tiny clips we got of the next chapter. Smol Seph is an absolute sweetheart, and it seems like they are implying that he’s pretty insecure. Glenn hugs him and says “You’re right. On the battlefield, it’s life or death. We don’t have a choice. But Sephiroth you don’t have to prove anything anymore. You’re strong enough already. Just be kind. That takes more strength.” or something along those lines. It comes off like Seph is worried he’s not good enough. It’s heart-breaking.

He is also definitely implied to be asking about his mother. He says “I ask everyone I meet this question. Do you know this person?” It seems like he has a little photo with him. I am dying to know what it is. How would he have a picture of someone he thinks is his mom? Or is it just the name? Need more context but only a short wait!!

Sephiroth says he is different and special because he knows it is true, not because he has a god-complex. The fandom forgets this.

Consider, in chapter five of the First Soldier, he proves that he actually does not want to be “special.”

This message is more powerfully delivered when you read his sad line to Glenn in Japanese.

“I’m not a modified human…I never wanted to be…”

He is a modified human, but he loathes the idea to the point of denying its reality and reaffirming that he never wanted it to be the case.

Sephiroth only embraces his inhumanity after he loses his mind and decides that humanity is the enemy. It makes perfect sense.
