TALE OF CREATION

(as told by Ernyo, a mink and the hostess of the Fullbelly Burrow tavern) Many moons ago, when there was no Moon at all, the world was filled by Darkness, hardly ever driven off by the little Stars. And the Stars, well, you know, they were always there. And when there was nothing else but Darkness and Stars, dim and timid, they decided to stay closer to each other, to shine a little brighter. And so they flocked up, and left the Darkness behind. So Light and Darkness became divided.

And the Darkness was saving its strength, became dense and heavy, until she turned real and thick, like black wool touching your paw. She changed, moved and thickened while the Stars snuggled up each other's sides, until one moment Darkness touched then with her ice-cold breath. It scared the Stars, and they decided to fight her off once and for all. They swirled and spun, running together in a circle, shaking Starcrumbs from their fur into the center. The crumbs bound together, formed a creature big and bright, while the little Stars were sprinkling it with more and more Starcrumbs. And so was the Sun born, the strongest and shiniest of all. The Darkness also wanted to put up a fight: she spun and swirled, and thickened more, and created a beast with its pelt blacker than tar, blacker than even the blackest coals, and it had no hair of other color in its fur. It howled and began chasing the Stars, gobbling them up, and each of the swallowed Stars became a little light in its belly. The darkness watched it and laughed her whiskers off! Little Stars squeaked in horror, begged the Sun to help them, but it was too big and slow to catch the beast. Darkness gave her offspring all the sleight and speed she could, so it continued eating up the Stars in the Skynesting. But there were so many of them, the beast could never eat them all! And soon the Stars filled it all up, lighting the beast from the inside, so there was no darkness left in it. Now even the beast of the Darkness was shining bright, and so was the Moon born. It could never go away from its mother, and stood by her side. But the Stars could not stand by Sun's side, it was too hot and bright, even for them. "We should make those who needs it all! So the Sun can give its light and fire to someone else, or it will burn us too!" - they whispered. And so they decided to create animals. They could use Starcrumbs again, but why would those creatures need the Sun, if they were made of pure light? So they approached Darkness, and asked her for some Nighclots - she also wanted to drive the Sun away. She agreed, on one condition, that they would let her create the first animals too. Then the Moon came forth and asked, where would the animals live? They can't float here like us, or they will be burnt by the Sun too! It should only pass them by, give them breaks, and then it will give them life. Stars and Darkness agreed with the Moon - they needed Ground. But there was no Ground were they were, so they decided to create a Beforebeast anyway, just to give it a try, and then decide what to do and where to find the Ground. The Stars mixed Nightclots with Starcrumbs like dough, and sculpted the Beforebeast, giving it shape. They gave him a pointy muzzle, round ears and a long tail. Darkness gave him big eyes, gaping maw with fangs, a strong neck and sturdy body. The Moon gave shine for his eyes, and the Sun touched his pelt, gave him warmth and made his heart beat. So the Beforebeast opened his eyes, looked at his creators, and sniffed them. And when he sniffed up the Starcrumbs, he coughed, and a spasm pushed out a big round rock from his throat. That rock became the Ground. The Ground was so heavy, it dropped right to the bottom of the Skynesting. It was on that Ground where the Stars, Moon and Darkness put the first animals. Stars sculpted a deer and a dog, a bear and a fox, a hare and a squirrel, a marten and an otter, a wolverine and a groundhog, a hawk and an heron, a viper and a water snake, a bream and a pike… Many other animals they created, but Darkness and Moon were going well too! They made an elegant cat, a mighty wolf, a nimble bat, a round-eyed owl, a crafty rat. So the newborn animals started living in their newborn world, admiring its wonders, exploring its depths. Many of those firstbeasts gave offspring: Firstcat Fryzk is the mother of all small felines, and Firstmarten is the mother of all weasels.

But the Sun! It crawled so slowly, so lazily it roamed the sky, that each day became longer and hotter. At last, it stopped in the middle of the sky and fell asleep! The Stars saw that and decided to pick among their creations those who would chase the Sun, make it run and never sleep. Many Firstbeasts wanted to chase the Sun, but only seven were the most worthy: the bear, the deer, the wolf, the lynx, the squirrel, the hawk and the hare. Until this very day they have been chasing the Sun each day, switching places. Only the Firstwolf is now gone - his place was taken by Firstfox's son Kvolke-Ho, and Owrro is now helping the Moonkeper Fryzk.

That's how our world was made! All other animals are Firstbeasts' kin, and we all carry both Darkness and Starlight in our bodies.

Dear @teenwolfholidayfest ,

All I want this year is…

a) Anything featuring raccoon shifter Stiles! fic, ficlet, art, edit, whatever it is, I'd love to see it!

b) Art, edit, podfic, or some other type of transformative work based on any of my fanfics (ThePurebloodPrat on ao3)

c) Some sort of Gentleman/Phantom Thief AU! (as in, Sly Cooper, Lupin, Tuxedo Mask, Kaito Kidd, etc.) I'd love a fic but I feel like this could be a really cool gifset also, so I'm really open! My favorite characters are Stiles, Derek, Jackson, Lydia, the Sheriff, Peter, Scott, and Erica, so I feel like there are lots of really cool ways this could be done.

d) Historical/Medieval Fantasy art! Edits or gifsets or moodboards are also welcome, i just like pretty pictures and crown symbolism.

e) Any kind of shifter!Stiles creation, but especially unusual creatures! I love foxes and wolves but I'd love to see more weird stuff, like cats and crows and otters and opossums. And, of course, Raccoons, but that got its own special request line because i am a sucker for those mischievous little thumb-having beasts.

f) An edit or graphic Phone Background. Single characters (Jackson, Stiles, or Derek) or Ships (Stackson, Sterek) or just general Teen Wolfness are all appreciated that is sized to be a phone background. I've been looking for a new lockscreen because it feels too vain to always use my own art LOL (i'm also hunting for a phone case in the same vein, but I'm not really putting in a specific request for that. I'd love rec links though!)

g) Lastly, I rly enjoy Cover Art specifically for fics (like with the text and everything) both having and Making and I would love to collab with other Gifters if they're interested in fic/cover art combo! I'd love to receive cover art or exchange cover art or make cover art for the fic you're making for someone else. (: Hope that's okay to add!

TOH Werebeasts AU Characters

Some information about the main characters in this AU.

Eda Clawthorne - an Owl Werebeast from the Clawthorne Clan. She suffers from a condition called “Going Feral” which makes it more likely for her animal instincts to overcome her rational mind, especially during stressful situations; the condition is incurable but can be managed by drinking a special Elixir. After accidentally injuring her father during a Feral episode, Eda ran away from home and settled near the town of Bonesburough. She makes a living selling high-quality potions and scamming people.

King Clawthorne - a Canine Werebeast adopted by Eda as a baby. He is Beast-Locked, meaning that he cannot take on a complete humanoid form like most Werebeasts. His default form is as a bipedal canine (which would be his in-between form if he was a regular Werebeast), and he can take on a Beast Form (based on the appearance he had in the final episode when Luz died). Since King is not a Titan in this AU, his head is not a skull, but white furred with the upper half of his left ear missing.

Luz Noceda Clawthorne - originally a human living in the town of Gravesfield, located in the Witterbane Region near the border with the Deamonne Region. Her town was attacked by Monsters when she was 13 and she was rescued by Eda when she managed to cross the border to escape them. Believing her mother to be dead, Luz was adopted by Eda. Luz dreams of becoming a Mage and although her magic power is low, she has become skilled in rune magic and potion making. Luz is also seeking a way to become a Werebeast herself, and eventually succeeds, becoming an otter, cat, snake hybrid.

Vee Clawthorne - a Snake Werebeast that was given the ability to eat magic due to experimentation. After escaping her captors, she was found and adopted by Eda shortly after the latter adopted Luz. Her experiences made her anxious around unknown people and she prefers to stay in her humanoid form when she goes out.

Raine Whispers - a Fox/Bat hybrid Werebeast and Eda’s former mate. After breaking-up with Eda, they moved to the town of Knee where they lived for years until it was attacked by mercenaries hunting down Werebeasts. After rescuing and taking in three young Werebeasts, Raine guided them to Bonesburough where they reunited with Eda and joined her pack. Raine still has feelings for Eda and instinctually considers her their mate, though they initially try to ignore their feelings. It doesn’t last long.

Derwin, Katya, and Amber - a trio of young Werebeasts orphaned after the Mercenary attack on Knee; Derwin is a bat/dog hybrid, Katya is a bat/cat hybrid, and Amber is a full on bat beast. The trio was rescued and adopted by Raine who took them to Bonesburough in search of a new home. The three are younger than in canon: Katya and Amber are 16 while Derwin is 18. They often conspire with Luz, Vee and King to get Eda and Raine back together.

Willow Park - a Bee Werebeast and Luz’s first friend after she moved to Bonesburough; she has very powerful plant magic. She is not much different from canon Willow. One of her dads is human while the other is an insect-based Werebeast like Willow (I haven’t decided which is which).

Gus Porter - a Chameleon Werebeast and Luz’s second friend after moving to Bonesburough; very talented in Illusion magic. He is not much different from canon Gus, though I don’t know what could replace canon Gus’ fascination with humans as this Gus knows about humans. Both of his parents are Werebeasts; his deceased mother was a Chameleon too, but I haven't decided what his dad is.

Amity Blight - a Cat Werebeast and youngest daughter of the Blight Family; very talented in Golem creation (is like Abomination magic but other materials besides Abomination Goo). She was initially snotty and mean due to her mother’s influence, but after meeting Luz, she reformed and rekindled her friendship with Willow. Amity eventually became Luz’s girlfriend.

Hunter Witterbane (Clawthorne) - the nephew of Lord Philip Witterbane; his parents were supposedly killed by Werebeasts, but in reality, Belos was the one who killed them. Hunter is actually a Werebeast; Philip used magic to Seal his Beast side and make him look human. He used to believe his uncle’s stories about Werebeasts being monsters until her met Luz and her friends. Shortly afterwards, Hunter unsealed his Beast side and left his uncle, then taken in by the Clawthornes after discovering they were related. Hunter is a wolf/red cardinal hybrid Werebeast.

Emira and Edric Blight - Amity’s older siblings; Emira is a Rat Werebeast while Edric is a Bat Werebeast; very talented in illusion magic. They played mean pranks on Amity, at first, but later reconciled and grew closer to their sister. Apart from Illusions, Emira is good with healing magic, and Edric has a talent with Potions and Beastkeeping.

Viney, Jerbo, and Barcus - Luz’s other friends. Viney and Jerbo are Human Mages while Barcus is a Beast-Locked Dog Werebeast. Their personalities and powers are the same as in canon.

Alador Blight - a Rat Werebeast and father of Amity, Emira, and Edric. Unintentionally neglects his children because he is more focused on his inventions, but he does love them. He later reconciles with them. Alador is talented in creating Golems.

Odalia Blight - a Human Mage, Alador’s wife and mother of Amity, Emira, and Edric; she specializes in Oracle magic but is actually rather average at it. Only married her Werebeast husband because Alador was useful to her. Odalia focuses more on Amity because she considers her Cat Werebeast self to be more “classy” than rats and bats. Odalia would definitely sell out her family to Werebeast Hunters if it would benefit her.

Darius Deamonne - a Human Mage and Lord of the Deamonne Region; a skilled user of Golem magic. His personality is the same as in canon. Darius has no issues with Werebeasts (his best friend is one) and opposes Philip’s quest to exterminate them.

Eberwolf - a Wolf Werebeast and Darius best friend; they are Beast-Locked so their default form is as a small anthro wolf. His personality is the same as in canon.

Caleb Clawthorne (formerly Witterbane) - a former noble and Philip’s older brother; he renounced his title after falling in love with a Werebeast named Evelyn. Caleb made use of an ancient ritual to become a Wolf Werebeast. He and his wife were murdered by Philip shortly after the birth of their son, Hunter.

Evelyn Clawthorne - a Red Cardinal Werebeast and Eda’s cousin. She fell in love with a human and helped him find a way to become a Werebeast. Evelyn and her husband were murdered shortly after the birth of their son, Hunter.

Lilith, Gwendolyn, and Dell Clawthorne - Eda’s sister and parents; Lilith is a Raven, Gwen and Hawk, and Dell and Yellow Cardinal Werebeast. They are mostly the same as in canon, except that Lilith obviously never worked for Philip/Belos.

Philip Witterbane - a Human Mage and Lord of the Witterbane Region. He hates Werebeasts and seeks to destroy all of them; he also has plans to become ruler of the Boiling Empire. Philip murdered his older brother, Caleb, after the latter married a Werebeast and became one, also murdering Caleb’s wife, Evelyn. He was going to kill Hunter too, but decided to instead Seal his Beast side to pass him off as human. Philip’s magic power is weak, so he makes use of runes.

The Creation of Cedras

This is based on a few original fictober oneshots I did this year and a bit of worldbuilding for a world I'm working on.

The creation of cedras

(Presented by the most well-known mythologist of cedras, professor ollie rivers!)

long ago, there were three stars that ruled over three realms, the crystal realm, the obsidian realm and the limbo

Their names were filsee, goluth, and opia (different cultures all around cedras give the stars different names)

everything was completely balanced with each of them ruling over each realm, until the sun and moon created a fourth realm (before cedras was actually created, the realm wasn't given a name, though it was thought to be given the name posetolle. which means 'yet to be graced' in rune glyphs)

knowing this could offset the balance off the universe, the stars came up with a plan to create three beings who could rule over the realm.

this is when the three primordial beasts were born.

filsee gave birth to Mithril 'the blazing owl'

goluth gave birth to Kiapa 'the sapphire otter'

and opia gave birth to Andromia 'the earthly fox'

mithril was a colossal owl whose wings could cover the sky and feathers mimicked fire and lighting.

Kiapa was a colossal otter whose sapphire sparkled in the light and whose paws touched the very bottom of the sea.

then there was andromia, a colossal fox with fur like a forest, whose back touched the sky and had jaws that could swallow mountains whole.

these three were then sent to the realm and given the task of bringing life to it and ruling over it.

the land was desolate when they arrived, the primordial giants that stars had made before them were struggling.

treacherous mountains, no place that could support life, and it was always cursed to be dark as there was no one there that could move the son and the moon of that realm.

mithril, kiapa and adromia immediately set to work. intending on fulfilling the stars wish.

(Going as far as to challenge one another to complete the task in three days)

on the first day, mithril set out to try and get the sun and moon moving.

he tried many things (pulling them with his talons, using a hooks and rope) but none of his ideas worked.

flew to the crystal realm and stole the three cats that gaurded the opening to the realm (embry, nomi, Namura, or ember, lotus, and dolphin when they are translated)

he then burnt off some of his feathers using some torches he stole from the star imopeti and flung them, in the process creating fire.

once he tied a rope to the cats and hooked one to the sun and one to the moon they began chasing after the feathers.

the third feather he sent up into the sky which sent nomi up to the stars of that realm.

when Nomi climbed into the stars, they kicked some of them out of the sky and sent the magic from them down onto the land.

which allowed the land, and anything under the stars to inherit magic

this allowed the sun and moon to move in a cycle and magic to be brought to the land.

bringing light and magic into the world

on the second day, kiapa was trying to dig a moat so she could redirect the lava away from the mainland.

halfway through her digging, she burnt her paw in the lava. she began crying from the pain.

she cried so much that her tears created all bodies of water including the ocean that surrounds cedras and the smaller islands to the south.

her crying also created most of the weather including snow, rain, tornados, hurricanes etc.

when she was done, she swam to the surface to observe her work with pride.

on the third day, adromia was bored and lonely.

while mithril was soaring through the skies and kiapa was swimming in the sea, adromia was left alone on the land with the other primordial beasts.

in her boredom she tried to build structures out of the earth.

she created mountains, canyons, caves, valleys and hills.

next she decided to decorate the land because she felt bad for the deer beast Appa, who was hungry and tired of eating dirt and gemstones

so, she painted the land with greenery. flowers, trees, moss, grass etc.

when she was finished, she called her friends out from the land and sea and they officially named their realm and the land they made, cedras.

once all was said and done, each of them decided to settle down.

mithrill settled down with the giant serpent pi and together they a few of the gods and monsters (hydras, dragons, just great beasts in general)

dewi, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge

monacre, the god of war, fire and victory

risfi, the goddess of justice, judgment and mercy

atrix, the goddess of magic and miracles

kiapa settled down the giant striped shark bulio and together they all of sea creatures and a few the gods

ymos, the god of water, weather, and storms

ymas, the god of oceans and rivers

mioma, the goddess of love, family, and marriage

Amara, the goddess of generosity, agriculture, travel and innovation

finally, there was andromia who settled down with the deer giant Appa, together they had every single beast, animal, and creature in cedras (humans, elves, orcs, dogs, cats, etc.) and the rest of the gods

imaro, the god of the sky, stars, and creation

mimali, the goddess of plants, nature and fertility

koko, the god of death and crossroads

anlio, the goddess of animals, beauty, and healing

once all of that was said and done and the world of cedras was officially complete the primordial beasts took their place in the stars.

leaving behind a few spirits to watch over the realm with the gods before they returned to the stars.

they entered a deep sleep and became the constellations known as the fire owl, the smiling otter and the peaceful fox.

where they continue to watch over the realm to this day

Creation

Otherbeasts, every form of species within the mortal realm, and outlying realms, has a companion critter that inhabits the Otherworld in some form: squirrels, mice, foxes, owls, bears, otters, dolphins, and so on. While they usually possess physical characteristics that differ from their counterparts, like an owl may have an extra set of talons that they use as rudimentary hands, all Otherbeasts are clearly identifiable to their counterparts. Otherbeasts were breathed into creation at the dawn of certain species, but unlike spirits of the Otherworld, they are not continuously born from impressions brought on from the mortal realm. The menagerie are capable of reproducing on their own and have done so for thousands of years.

Habits

Made companions as easily as their counterparts, the Otherbeasts that fall under the menageries have varied temperaments. Occasionally spotted within the mortal realm, most often the menagerie have an aversion towards leaving the Otherworld and will instinctively return to it when taken from it. The exception to this are areas, such asa the Fairy King’s forest, that are deeply concentrated with fey and otherworldly magic. To the menagerie, places like this feel like a second home. Their inherent connection to the natural world and its magic gives them an immense aversion to mortals and their towns, cities, and inventions.

Miss Mac’s Crafting Table

Please join us in welcoming Miss Mac, the crafting NPC, to the lands of Loria! Miss Mac is a river otter and a very special character, as I (Alaunis) designed her after my mom. I lost my mom this February very suddenly and unexpectedly, and as a result of her passing I wanted to dedicate some parts of the game to her. 

My mom was incredibly talented. Her hands could create just about anything her mind could dream up. From knitting, to sewing, to soap-making, sculpting, baking, painting, and beyond, she practiced and perfected these crafts and spoiled me with an endless supply of beautiful hand-made goods. She was exceptionally generous and enjoyed spending her free time creating gifts for friends and loved ones. As such, I felt our crafting NPC needed to be based on her and her wonderful talents, so that in a way she can continue sharing her creations with others.

As a side note, I also made the Mutterbird companion in memory of her because she adored hummingbirds (and otters!). 

New Breed - Volmyr

Shown above are some concept sketches of Lorwolf’s newest wolf breed model - the Volmyr! This breed (wyvern) was the winner of our Kickstarter poll, and will be the next breed featured in the game. We shared these sketches in our Discord server a short while back, but we want to make sure everyone gets a sneak peak! 

We haven’t yet decided on the final characteristics for this breed, but we imagine they will be big and formidable yet very gentle and cautious. As you can probably tell, they were based on the real world “flying fox” bats, which we think look remarkably canid.

We aren’t quite sure how joining the game after beta will work. We were toying around with the idea of registration windows or some sort of staggered sign-up system, but that’s still TBD! 

We haven’t yet decided on the final cost for the monthly membership, but it will provide a certain number of moonstones and remove all ads from the site. Moonstones are used to purchase cosmetic changes - like breed/pattern changes and apparel, and can also be used to purchase more space - such as extra Den space and Mining cart capacity!
