I think the reason us helluva boss/hazbin hotel fans get so defensive about criticism is because a lot of the "critics" just hate vivzie and the shows themselves. It's come to the point that any criticism for this show feels like an angry mob. In any other fandom I'm fine with criticism, but the fact that "critics" have said that they can't wait for viv's downfall + even wished that she died has made me hostile towards it. Haters have taken over the critique part of the fandom and turned it into a cesspool of disgusting rage. That level of hate towards a creator is unfathomable. Why do they think this is okay?

i have many thoughts about this, so i'm going to put them all here since i don't want to harrass anyone.

so first, you decided to play a game that is very much known for being a horror game about inc3st, demon summoning, murder, and cannibalism.

you then were completely okay with everything but the inc3st. if i used anti logic, that would mean you would be okay with all those other things.

also i'd like to see exactly where in the game it says to go partake in inc3st in real life.

yeah, i know it doesn't say anywhere not to, but it definitely doesn't say that about the other topics in the game either.

also, the game itsself is about horror. it's a horror game. you're mad about a horror element. a horror element in a horror game.

another thing is that whole "one digital crime is way worse than another" bullshit, which i physically can't understand. it's... not real life??

seriously, it is not real. it's literally fake. they are not real people. and anybody who ships them knows that they aren't real people.

it also doesn't affect the real world. how does me liking a game hurt you? how does me liking a ship hurt you? how does this affect anyone in any way?

i really want to know what can make someone like this. honestly, from what i've personally seen, people who are against proship on main are secretly proshippers on an alt.

There are several petitions going around to ban certain content from AO3 (incest, underage, yada yada). Besides the fact that AO3 is an archive for all content, these terms are vague and applied in bad faith to scrub the archive of anything someone finds subjectively offensive.

It’s not enough to scroll past or avoid certain tags. To these people, the content shouldn’t exist at all.

I do think the book banning happening in the US right now—and general efforts to instill “conservative” values—emboldens people in fandom spaces to exact parallel efforts to censor fan works.

terfs keep mentioning the % of autistics who are trans/nb and that we're 'brainwashed'

and because i'm an asshole, i decided to look into why so many autistic folks are trans/nb. it's not an inaccurate statement, at least the first half, but terfs lie through their teeth so i decided to get to the scientific root of it.

the answer blew my fucking mind.

the study on gender and autism i found said two very specific things about autistic people: we are more mentally resistant to things like social conditioning and binarism. we like our secret third things, y'know.

an excerpt:

“The finding that non-binary identities are most elevated seems to support hypotheses focussed on autistic resistance to social conditioning, which are consistent with existing evidence of the same effect with respect to self-description of sexual orientation. Perhaps elevated rates of trans identity in autism might result from a rejection of the binary cisgenderist norm, which combined with a below-typical concern for social norms could promote the disclosure of the identity.”

94% of autistics surveyed for that paper identified themselves as non-binary.

other studies have found autistic people have higher levels of critical thinking, and require more evidence to maintain or convert to a belief system (hence why many of us eventually fall away from religion) than allistic people.

which means, at least from my perspective, that:

a) the 'brainwashing' terfs are accusing the trans community of inflicting on autistic folks would likely not even work if they tried.

b) the current binary definition of gender flies directly against embedded autistic modes of thinking to begin with.
