Sembra questa la strategia degli Ufo: li si avvista soprattutto in zone rurali e semirurali, in volo su boschi, montagne, paesini, periferie. Perché mai, ci si chiede, gli alieni dovrebbero atterrare a Torrita di Siena o a Marzano di Torriglia? Perché è un fenomeno eccentrico: apparendovi, battezza come propri centri luoghi diversi dai centri consueti. Torriglia, poco più di duemila abitanti, diventa così «capitale extraterrestre». Non solo in Italia, il non identificato appare nella grande provincia, o meglio, in quella che le metropoli ritengono provincia, colonia del loro impero amministrativo, culturale, segnico*. Zone dove, stando a una certa vulgata, ogni tendenza arriverebbe dopo, mentre più spesso è vero l’opposto: l’autoproclamato centro rimane sbigottito di fronte a tendenze partite dalla supposta periferia, a soggettività cresciute fuori dagli schermi dei soliti radar. Anche noi Wu Ming siamo eccentrici. Come nei nostri libri adottiamo una poetica di sguardo obliquo dai margini, dai confini, dai lembi estremi di territori e narrazioni, così nei nostri tour tracciamo rotte non scontate, dando priorità a piccoli e medi centri, cittadine, luoghi presuntamente periferici dove sono attive comunità che promuovono la cultura come resistenza. La prima parte del tour di presentazioni di Ufo 78, di cui pubblichiamo il calendario qui sotto, si chiama Flap 22, e conferma quest’approccio. In ufologia, «flap» è un’improvvisa concentrazione temporale e geografica di avvistamenti. Ad esempio, pochi mesi fa c’è stato un flap in Sardegna**. Il nostro primo flap, che ci riporterà anche in Sardegna, si concentrerà sulla provincia del Nord e Centro Italia, ma sono ancora “orbitanti” alcune date al Sud. Il tour durerà per gran parte del 2023. La seconda tranche, quella invernale, includerà anche le grandi città, e nel corso dell’anno cercheremo di spingerci a meridione il più possibile. 🥺🥺🥺 thank you so much!!!! i swear the vast majority of that fic is just like. stuff ive mentally Absorbed from fandom and remember someone writing like a whole breakdown of how they perceived nicky’s like. developed personality over the 1000 years and i just picked that up and carried it with me! because emotionally i feel like. i and not many other people would’ve liked the nicky we had at his first death. like its so apparent to me that the soft-spoken gentle man that we see urging nile to get some rest and helping her out the car is somewhat of a personality development that he’s undertaken rather than the state he was in prior to his first few deaths. like frankly i dont think he was a good person when he started out, and it took years and years of unlearning hatred and just growing as a human being to really nurture that spark of kindness that he has in him. and im like certain that joe at least either had a lot to do with that kind of growth or he at least inspired it, and he knows it! u know when u hang around someone who u really admire and love long enough that their best traits start becoming smth u reach for when u need to make tough decisions? i think a lot of their initial relationship was a lot of that. which is why i rlly love the sun/moon comparison we seem to have all reached because the sun makes the light and the moon shines because of that light reaching and reflecting off it. which is why i love them so much because really that’s what i think is the best part of love. you make each other brighter, you make each other better, you are the cause of the best parts of me.

Great website with a list of a bunch of the Old Guard filming locations with extra notes like these:

The location in the film that is the “Charlie safe house is a disused church in the French town of Goussainville. It has been abandoned for 50 years because the Paris-Charles De Gaulle airport is too close.” However “The Old Guard home is actually the All Saint's Church in Shirburn, near Watlington in Oxfordshire. As you can check out in the picture, the tower of the Norman temple was altered via CGI to look a bit taller.”

Most of the locations also have little Google Map links under them on the website which is super helpful for fic writing and/or giving extra intel.

A lot of my opening lines are quite short, mood-related as much as scene setting. I tend to work linearly, so many of them are (a variation on) the first inspiration I had for the story. And, obviously, there's a whole lotta Old Guard going on.
