Ieri ho ascoltato due album di Giusy Ferreri. Il suo album di esordio dal titolo Gaetana e il successivo dal titolo fotografie. Non voglio giudicare la qualità dei testi perché non è una cantautrice ma soprattutto perché se avesse cantato in inglese non si sarebbe dato peso alla cosa. Diciamo che la poesia del testo é un'aggiunta solo nel momento in cui esiste ed è percepibile ma in assenza non è un grande handicap anche se canta in italiano. Dagli album ascoltati in cd con un impianto abbastanza di qualità percepisco tre cose. La sua voce dal tono particolare, inusuale nelle voci diffuse soprattutto in Italia. La qualità di registrazione che a differenza di tanti album di quel periodo non enfatizzano i bassi per un ascolto in cuffia o in streaming. Ed infine una certa fantasia ed un buon arrangiamento dei pezzi. Insomma non le hanno fatto cantare le solite canzonette scritte sempre dagli stessi autori (per cui tutte simili) come succede a chi esce da un talent televisivo. Soprattutto il primo album (prodotto da Tiziano Ferro) merita l'ascolto. Molti pezzi sono rimasti nel suo repertorio perché ormai dei classici per lei. Si passa un'ora piacevole e non ci si annoia mai. Il secondo album contiene delle cover di brani datati riarrangiati in modo contemporaneo che fa piacere ascoltare.

I just realized who my landlord’s wife reminds me of. It’s NELLY FURTADO except she’s blonde. And her name is Giusy like the famous Italian singer. So, that was that month, I guess. Time flies. So, yeah, end of the project! Would I do it again? Probably. Was it time-consuming? Definitely. At the moment I’m working on a women’s music canon (because gen canons tend to have around 15% women (*including mixed group and being very generous in my counting) and I think that’s a well shame. 

Really, what this is, is an encouragement to seek out more female artists, old and new. They deserve to be heard. The music industry has historically been terribly male-centric - it’s about time to center the women once in a while, don’t you think?

DAY 8: a character you can imitate very well

🎤 Sasara Nurude (MC name: Tragic Comedy)

This post is in collaboration with @justanotherniky, since they represent my regular partner in evening live performances (in which our audience is predominantly represented by the stuffed animals in their room: a pair of penguins, a pair of SKZ animals and a towel of My Melody) themed Hypnosis Mic or Paradox Live, so they're the person who's most aware of which characters I can best imitate vocally.

When we have fun rapping, we have semi-fixed roles, as we divided the 18 characters between the 2 of us and, depending on the song and tones, some of them can switch (like Gentaro, Doppo or Jakurai), while others are fixed. The characters that I do fixedly are Ichiro, Dice, Jyushi and Sasara.

So when I asked which character I should put in for this day, the answer (extremely calm, I must say) was "YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY PUT SASARA. HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTION. I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT, BUT YOU'RE FUCKING EQUAL."

So....Ookini!? 🪭

Apparently I have a gift I didn't expect to have (??) LOL

And yes, Niky'sreaction the moment they first heard me do "Erabutta batsu! 💪🏼" (accompanied by the tactical arm gesture) in Division Battle Anthem was to spit out a lung and not be able to stop laughing for like a good 5 minutes :)

[The kind audience also reminded me of the fact that I once sang a song by an Italian singer, Giusy Ferreri (link), with Sasara's voice, because for some strange reason her voice reminded me of Sasara's...and I thought "I wonder how it would be sung by him?...".

The kind audience spit out the other residual lung, that day.]

However, this was followed by a succession of crisis messages:

again according to Niky "FUCK THO, JYUSHI COMES OUT GREAT, TOO"

and "EVERY TIME YOU DO JYUTO I LMAO".

and "BUT NO. SASARA IS ICONIC. You MUST put him!".

And all of this cracks me up, because they're completely different characters and if seen together in the same room they might give the impression that they were drawn at bingo.
