i find it rlly cool how even though c!tommy & c!purpled's friendship was never canon, we as a community still managed to make such an amazing, interesting dynamic between these two character foils: someone who would do anything to be in the spotlight, and someone who would do anything to get out from under it. the boy who no one notices and the boy who everyone knows. like that's beautiful

i've talked about cgoldenduo narrative foils before but i think the latest lore stream really showed that. at the beginning and middle of tommy's arc, he's the center of attention, the climax of it all. he's considered the "main character" by many, and the story almost revolves around him. there's no way to tell the story of the dsmp without tommy. but now? he wants nothing more to be invisible. he doesn't want to be the protagonist anymore, he doesn't want to be the center of attention, he doesn't want to be seen.

conversely, all purpled has wanted this entire time is just to be seen, to have what tommy is running away from. purpled's story starts with a forgotten boy. no one remembers him, no one even thinks about him, he just barely misses the action every time. but in his arc, he fights for the spotlight. he wants that attention, he wants, more than anything, to be remembered. and while he might not have completely accomplished that goal yet, he's well on his way to it.

just. tommy trying to leave the spotlight he's been in his entire life while purpled is desperately clawing and fighting for even the tiniest bit of what tommy has. sun and moon. they're such narrative foils they're amazing.

at this point I’m going to start unironically (kind of) referring to the Cassidy-Evan fusion as Acid Van lmao because I don’t know of a more convenient name for it. I wrote about this on my “how possession works” post, but the complete physical (as physical as it can be for ghosts) merging of Cassidy and Evan shown here only happens to the agony spirits in the real world.

btw the differentiation between the agony spirits vs the original for Cassidy and Evan is:

Cassidy - Agony has hair down and black eyes, Original has pigtails and brown eyes

Evan - Agony spirit has a permanent tear (sometimes multiple) from one eye and black eyes, Original does not have tears unless he’s actually crying (which is a lot less than the Agony version of himself) and his eyes are blue
