pick a direction and walk - this was my 2019 GOBB big bang fic and it was so so so meaningful to me, it really reflected a lot of my “I’m in my early 20’s, I’m lost, I don’t know what I’m doing and I don’t know what to do about not knowing, I don’t know what my purpose is, I don’t know how to find that purpose, everything feels big and overwhelming and I’m so so so lost 😞” problems at the time, and yet the story ended happily and hopefully and with a “it’s okay to just be you” kinda vibe. I was so proud of this and I’m still so proud of it even almost exactly 4 years later, and it continues to be my least-liked fic 🤷🏻
basically: Crowley and aziraphale gotta figure out wtf they’re gonna do post-apocalypse while also dealing with 1) Aziraphale’s acting WEIRD he’s wearing MODERN CLOTHES 2) Crowley’s miracles aren’t working but he’s in denial it’s fine and 3) Dagon and Michael showing up and Asking Questions that they don’t know how to answer. And they’re all gay of course

INDEFINITE HIATUS
in light of the past couple weeks, I will be going on an indefinite hiatus. I no longer feel comfortable supporting stranger things when so many people behind the show loudly and callously display their support for genocide. it’s quite frankly, disgusting, and so this blog will be taking a break. for how long? I’m not sure. possibly forever.
honestly, I had so much fun running this blog. I met so many amazing people, made so much art, and participated in so many fandom lead projects. those are the memories I’d like to keep with me and I’d like to hold them in a positive light. the best way I can see myself doing that is to step away from this blog and ST as a whole.
after this post, I will post my obligated art work for the byler big bang (all posted by Dec. 1st) and that will be all. I will keep everything up as a sort of time capsule of this time in my life (and on the slim chance I come back). I can’t thank you all enough for being so amazing and kind to me in the past year and a half that I’ve had this blog. I still do, and always will, have love for the characters in the show as well as the story, but I think it’s time to leave this all behind.

2019 was really THE year
Avengers endgame, Midsommar, Joker, Parasite, Knives out, Cats, Little Women, The Lighthouse, The Lion King live action, Us, Aladdin live action, Frozen 2, Lego movie 2, The Addams Family, Shazam, Detective Pikachu, Five Feet Apart , all came to theatres.
The Umbrella Academy, Euphoria, Good Omens, Why Women Kill, What We Do In The Shadows, Dickinson, Sex Education, The Mandalorian, The Boys, Pen 15 and Trinkets all premiered.
Then you got music which is still just as crazy cause you got Bad Guy, Truth Hurts, 7 Rings, Thank u next album, Sucker, Old Town Road, Love album, Señorita, Sweet But Psycho, Watermelon Sugar, K-12 and more
Pop culture too was obviously still crazy since you have the instagram egg, horrifying first sonic image, first image of a black hole, snapchats baby filter that still haunts, end of game of thrones, big bang theory ends, end of katy perry and taylor swift feud, ownership of spider-man, Greta Thunberg, storming area 51, Steven Universe and probably more i’m forgetting

okay, I'm going to count distinct chapters of the advent calendar for this. in no particular order and subject to mood change:
When You're Loving Me (That's When I'm Loving You) (NCIS: LA) - I cited this as a contender for my favourite fic I've written a couple months ago, so obviously it has to go in the year's. what can i say, fake dating is an immaculate trope, and this also all came onto the page very easily which is always vaguely miraculous.
there you go pulling me right back in (H50) - sometimes vague prompts i've had down for ages write up as something that's. fine, but a bit clunky, and I just have to move on bc it's the advent calendar and a new fic each day. sometimes I start writing them and they spring into life with joyous delight. or in this case, uninhibited grumpiness and love.
singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight (MASH) - the one that didn't make it into the top 5 kudosed, I assume partially due to being locked and partially due to being a serious tone, not terribly shippy, and Peg POV. But I've had some version or other of it for a long time, it's one of those stories I'm genuinely proud of, and I was glad to finally post it.
Totally Normal (Due South) - it's fun. it was fun. I was slightly nervous about it, because the only prior Due South thing I'd written was Dief POV and this was Fraser and RayK POV and the first time writing either of those, but it turns out watching + liveblogging four and two seasons, respectively, of a character in four months is. enough to cement their voices in my head. it was unexpectedly easy and also. fun.
Festive Spice (MUNCLE) - i just think it epitomises the advent calendar. in the words of coolbreezemage, 'yesssss bake cakes and kiss your partner'.
HMs:
Finding A Cure In You (S&H) - this doesn't make it to the above list due to the fact that I haven't actually managed to reread it since I posted it. but just for the amount of time I spent with it, how different it is to my usual M.O. of writing, and the weird way I wrote it (entirely in the notes app, with almost zero rereading while writing), I have to somehow mention it.
A Thousand Words / To Be Spared (Good Omens) - I don't know if they're favourite but I do think they're good. and the format of to be spared was pleasingly experimental and i think it worked.

vague thoughts: i'd like to write a full-length (for whatever value of that. the AC ones actually were full-length, especially the second one, but what I really mean is AC-independent) due south fic. they're very weird and i enjoyed writing them, and I'd also like to write something with RayV in it. maybe if I successfully inspired @itwoodbeprefect to write new ds, when she does that it will inspire me to write something, and we can set up a ping-pong game. no, wait, that's mixing fandoms.
I expect more MUNCLE fic. this one's already 3.5k and rocketing along, and i'm only two-thirds of the way through season 1. what form that will take i don't know at this stage but we'll see.
....i was discussing the vague concept of house/h50 crossover fic with squares literally yesterday and on the one hand I haven't written a crossover since 2014 and also don't want that to be my legacy, but on the other hand i think there is at least a 50% chance it's going to stick in the back of my brain and keep niggling.

First fic I published on AO3: In High Seas for House, MD. Hey, do you want to read a weird mermaid fic that takes place in a medical drama? This weird-ass fic is for you!
Last fic I published: Fools Rush In for Good Omens (TV). If perhaps mermaids aren't your thing, then how about some Formula 1 fic in a long ass, overdramatic trilogy.
A fic from a fandom I only ever wrote once for: A Personal History of Midwestern Running, for BBC Merlin. I poured all my teenage angst into this story. I wouldn't say I'm a sports person, but writing two sports AUs says otherwise. I do still love this story deeply. Even though I wrote it over a decade ago, I think it's one of the best things I've written.
My favorite fic from the fandom with the most works: Magic Heart for Good Omens (TV). This is the third part in a trilogy about Warlock growing up raised by Crowley and Aziraphale. It was just one of those stories that came to me, and I had to write it out or else lose my mind. I think it encapsulates how Good Omens pretends to be a story about immortal beings yet is really commentary on the human experience.
I wish more people read... Name the Sky for Good Omens (TV). This was my submission for the Good Omens Big Bang 2019 event and one of the only stories I've written that takes place throughout the history of the Ineffables.
The fic I agonized the most over... Accept A Little Spin for Good Omens (TV). This is Part 2 in the #rainbowroad trilogy, and it is personal. I agonized a lot while writing and while posting. I don't think I've ever had such a nerve wracking comment experience before or after. Though it's a challenging read, it has some of my favorite scenes from the whole trilogy and is the meat of the story.
The fic that sprang fully formed without effort... The future's going to break through for Good Omens (TV). I think I was unstable when I wrote this. I woke up at 3 AM one morning and hammered out the rough draft before work. It is unhinged and somehow my most popular fic.
And the fic I am proud of... See in technicolor for Good Omens (TV). This story was such a step outside of my comfort zone. It's smutty and filthy and raw and wrenching in turns and a story I sat on for a long time before I got the courage to write it. It is certainly my most uncomfortable story because it is unflinching in the face of (my) dysphoria.

It should have been terrifying, painful, any number of other frightening things – a demon being held by a cherub – but the only thing Crowley really felt beyond the pain and oppression of the room was… love.
As part of the @goodomensbigbang, I paired up with Katling and had the wonderful opportunity to draw art for her fic, Angel On The Outward Side. This fic is absolutely amazing and you should definitely go read it!

That night, in a dark and empty church but surrounded by candles, Father Zira performed his very first wedding. Romeo and Juliet stood hand in hand, gazing into one another’s eyes. To be honest, Father Zira wondered if they were at all aware of their surroundings, or if they were so caught up in each other that nothing else mattered at all. There was no music, no laughter, no clapping, no choir, just the softest whistle of the wind blowing through the church, causing the candles to flicker. But they didn’t need it. The two young lovers filled up the entire space with so much love that Father Zira couldn’t help but smile. They read their vows by the light of the moon, shining in from the oculus, bathing them in pale light.
Just outside their ring of light stood Nurse Raven, hem of her dress barely touched by the bright shine of the moon, the rest of her hidden in shadows. More than anything, Father Zira wanted to call her in closer, to be part of this moment together, but he also understood her wish for some distance.

If the smell of hot chocolate, now dropped onto the floor, had been familiar, this was even better. Even as Crowley muttered apology after apology into the warm skin, he couldn’t help but hone in on every little detail as he breathed in.

The love that brims from him when he is allowed at last to heal, to help, to save. A demon shouldn’t love performing Heaven’s work like this, should he? What else, then, is a lie? (Don’t ask questions.) Aziraphale can’t stop watching, through the centuries. Presently, Crowley catches him, and many, many truths come to light.
