Okay, y’all. These new in-universe motel keychains showed up today and I am just SO delighted with how they came out!

The one on the left is for Takodana Castle from The Force Awakens. There’s no way Maz Kanata doesn’t have rooms, right? Somewhere for a tired scoundrel to stay between heists. This keychain is for room 34, 34 ABY being the year in which the Force Awakens takes place.

The one on the right is for Sorgan Common House, which hosts the tavern where Din Djarin and Grogu stop for some soup before running into Cara Dune…and later Omera and the krill farmers. I’m sure that this little spot is both a tavern and an inn, so I made a keychain for room 8, 8 ABY being the year this episode of The Mandalorian takes place.

Jaune was right about evil cat. Why didn't they listen? Why didn't they believe him?

Because they thought he’d lost his mind and that his judgement was clouded by trauma. Which was fair based on their observations of him in the Ever After. He was erratic, he was clearly traumatized, for fuck’s sake he was twenty years older than the last time they saw him

The Cat also helped RWBY a LOT during their travels. They were curious and a bit annoying, but over all harmless. They “protected” Ruby from Herb (for their own interests, but RWBY didn’t know that), and helped make the grogurt parfait to get WBY back to normal size

So RWBY had reason to doubt him

However, as we’ve seen in the past, even when Jaune’s judgement is clouded by emotions, he simply DOES NOT take actions that will harm any of his friends but himself

Because after waiting for them for twenty years, stewing in trauma of thinking that he’s failed his friends and can’t protect them from getting hurt, the first thing he did when he heard about the Cat was warn them

He didn’t care if it would make him seem untrustworthy, or freak them out, all he cared about was keeping them safe

So when Jaune said that the Cat was dangerous, we should have taken that more seriously

Filling the Empty Nest Din figures out what to do with himself after season 2, misses Grogu, and somehow ends up rebuilding Mandalore. From Foundling to Father Din is eight. Gets rescued. His dad learns how to be a dad to him. (I seriously wish the author will continue the story T.T) Short works Some sad some interesting. Honor thy Clan What would happen if most of the survivors after the purge was children? General Mudhorn (and the time traveling bush) Just like the title says, plus som time travel Grogu's Adventures in Acquiring a Buir Grogus POV from the beginning to the moment Luke takes him away. Homebound Ain’t some teenage angst Ben Solo going to stop the might Grogu! if love is the answer, you're home Din is just being a dad, missing his son. And then there is Luke who is really bad at tracking.. In harmony The ehh.... the armor is alive... The Mand’alor and the Jedi These stories are by faaaar the best ones out there. I can’t give the author enough love. The writing, the pacing, all the characters that stays.... I can’t recommend it enough! If you love The Mandalorian, then you will DEFINITELY love these works!!!!!! Lost in time The clones Rex, Cody and Fives travel forward in time. Din's dad instincts kicks in. Mandalorian Menace Time travel, Din adops Anakin. Tor Vizla and Jaster Mereel gets bonked on their heads by their grandchildren. The Mandalorian and the Rebel Spy Cassian gets adopted by Din's buir and they, sort of, grews up together. They're Gonna Give You Hell This one is by far the funniest shit ever🤣 do NOT read where you need to be quiet!! (i accidentally laughed in a quiet auditorium...) Time is a social construct Time travel, Din adopts Satine and Obi. Trust Luke travel to Mandalor and training begins. Vortex Amnesia for Din, he only remember that Grogu left. Nope. 2 years have gone by! You Can Worship the Ashes Time travel. Din saves Fives. you were only waiting for this moment to arise Rey gets (sort of) adopted by Din.

RWBY V9: Unreliable Narrators

Spoilers under the cut (which I’ll remove after at least a week):

Neither Jaune or the Curious Cat saw what happened to Alyx and Louis at the Tree. For that matter, we don’t know that it wasn’t actually Louis (named after Lewis Carrol, the author of Alice In Wonderland) who returned to Remnant and then wrote himself out of the story for whatever reason.

(I’ve heard other fans alluding to “The Boy Who Fell From The Sky” as an alternative to “The Girl Who Fell Through The World”. Perhaps Louis first told his own story orally to other people, before changing his mind and changing the story to write the second version instead.)

Jaune’s operating off of speculation.

The Curious Cat cannot be trying to feed Team RWBY to the Tree if it is not trying to lead them to the Tree in the first place. They asked it to lead them to the Tree and it refused, and they settled for keeping the Cat around by feeding its curiosity in the thin hope that it would eventually meander its way to the Tree.

Instead, the only place the Cat led Team RWBY was to the market where they could get a Grogurt Parfait. Before that, the Cat saved Team RWBY from the Red Prince, warned them not to talk with people like Herb, and then saved them from Herb.

(The Cat also maybe saved Ruby from the Blacksmith, but the Cat may not have realized it.)

If anything was going to convince Ruby to ascend, it would have been Herb’s vision (or the Blacksmith’s), but the Cat put a stop to that, and instead convinced Herb to give up and return to the Tree.

And the moment that Herb agreed, the Tree opened a portal without further involvement from the Curious Cat. “You don’t go to the Tree, the Tree goes to you.”

The Cat not only can’t take them to the Tree, didn’t agree to take them to the tree, wasn’t even trying to take them to the Tree, it raises a valid point when it says they can’t Ascend in the first place because they’re humans, not Everans.

The Cat may only have been helping Team RWBY in order to continue milking them for more interesting stories, but it has never meant to harm them, or tried. It has only ever helped and protected them, including sending another Everan to its certain and final death against the Jabberwalker to protect them.

“...I’ve only seen others as sources of information and entertainment,” the Cat admits. But is the Cat being honest with itself about that? It’s Purpose is to help other Afterans; it didn’t seem to learn anything or gain any amusement from convincing Herb to return to the Tree, or from getting the Hawker to fight the Jabberwalker.

RWBY v9 e4 Thoughts and Analysis

Genuinely might be my favorite opening of the entire show. 

Also, genuinely, screw everyone who ever said Ruby didn’t have a character arc. 

RWBY is really, really good at keeping stories going in the background even as the main focus shifts around. So just...stop with that shit, okay? CRWBY are very particular with what they choose to do and when. Not everything's perfect, but if you get hung up on things you didn’t like from the past, you’ll never be able to fully appreciate what’s happening now. It’s always gonna bother you in the back of your mind. Ruby wasn’t always the most important person in the show. Let it go so you can talk about what led us here, to this exceptional story. We good? Good. 

“You do not go to the tree, the tree goes to you! Unless of course you’re me, you see?”

Yeah, so the Curious Cat (referred to as CC from here on out) is definitely in some position of authority in the Ever After, but they do not control it or anything like that. I suppose we shall find out their role soon enough. 

Regardless, it seems that the Tree decides when you’re ready to leave, not you. CC can bypass that it seems, but i doubt that will work for our heroes.

If the residents of the Ever After exist to facilitate a story, then the Tree will let them out when the story is done. 

Maybe the Ever After only rained when Ruby was sad (rather than, for instance, Weiss) because it’s deemed her the protagonist of the story that must reach it’s conclusion before RWBY and co are allowed to leave? Just a thought.

Also, Little does not have a history with CC like I thought they and the other mice might. However, that’s not to say CC liking to eat mice has no impact on whether the mice know what a cat is, especially since last week Little wasn’t even completely convinced they were a mouse.

It’s been said before, but CC really is a standout character. The design, the performance, the power set,  even the dialogue make literally everything about them engaging. As does, of course, the characterization, cuz this Cat is just as impossible as any cat irl. Now i actually like cats, but I’ll be the last one to say they don’t tend towards being completely absurd and impossible in their behavior

CC just takes that to the next level. Honestly though CC is basically just ADHD: the animal

From the tone of Yang’s voice, i genuinely think she was just throwing poor Weiss a bone here  😄

Missed a chance to have CC making a cat video tbh, but “Luminous Rectangle” and “why is it printing tiny flat versions of me” is still amazing

CC just briefly giving voice to some of the common complaints about RWBY is kinda nice

its CRWBY saying “We’re listening. We hear you. We are working to address your concerns, but only to the point that it won’t compromise our story.”

Also roasting the gods is fun. Does seem like it’s clear that the Gods have nothing to do with the Ever After then, though, if CC both didn’t know and is super comfortable calling them out this way

I love that CC is still a cat, with all the usual catlike behaviors. Would've been easy to anthropomorphize them more, I’m happy that didn’t happen.

Couple interesting lines here

First

Our first hint that roles are not set in stone.

and second

“Everyone needs help these days. Everyone.” Who else is Herb referring to?

“Huntresses are heroes. We protect those who can’t protect themselves” Blake is really following in Ruby’s stead, this is literally the line Ruby gives her all the way back in volume 1 when they talk about their love of books. Of course, she’s doing it after going through all the healing Ruby hasn’t done yet.  It is cool to see this dichotomy of Blake stepping up and embodying what she valued in Ruby while Ruby becomes more like she was in volume 1 and 2

Also, I like that Ruby’s answer to “What does a huntress do” is “fight monsters”. it shows that she’s still thinking about things wrong

“In order to help you become whatever it is you need to become, you really ought to have a better understanding of what you are now”. Great line. Cuts straight to the heart of the issue.

.”This is how a king winds up a prince”

So...the Red Prince used to be the Red King? And he became the Red Prince, perhaps because he didn’t understand who he was, and thus who he wanted to be wasn’t quite right? We’ll see. But clearly there’s a much more complicated transformation process that can happen here than we expected. Perhaps a far more literal one, as well.

“You don’t have to go forward you know. You could go back. Back to before.”

Before she lost her arm. It’s not about her arm though--it’s about everything. It’s about going back to what things were like before beacon fell. Going back to who she was like before beacon fell.

Yang is shocked--but she doesn't immediately reject the idea. Unlike Blake...

“You could just be human. Or just a cat. It’s up to you.”

“Why would i do that?”

“I told you. It’s simple. Much simpler than trying to be a bridge between human and faunus. Why struggle with that responsibility?”

So it’s clear now. The reason Blake wasn’t front and center on injustice during the Atlas arc. 

This is what she was struggling with. Well this, and taking the life of an actual living, breathing person

Doesn’t matter that it was Adam, he was still a person.

So for a couple volumes she just...stopped trying to be that bridge. Focused on proving to her loved ones that she had grown, and that she wouldn’t run away again. Showing them--and especially Yang--that she loved them.

“You could be a nobody. Isn’t that what you want? to be free?”

God i’m so proud of these girls. This is such a beautiful scene. It’s so well directed, so well written, and there’s so much we can all learn from it, purely on an emotional growth level..

And then we come to Ruby. And unlike her friends, she doesn’t have it in her to reject the part of herself that appears here. Instead, she gets this brutal face-to-face with all of her worst insecurities, worst impulses, all her imposter syndromes and her habit of putting everything on her own shoulders. honestly this section deserves a deep dive all its own.

“You don’t even have to be Ruby Rose. So. Who are you gonna be?” 

Ruby is gonna go through a major transformation this volume. I can only hope it’s the one she needs.

I’m really curious why exactly CC was so angry about what Herb was doing. What exactly did he do wrong? Hopefully we will find out tomorrow. 

the “That’s a bit much” lien from herb intrigues me though.  Was he affected by the pain the girls--and Ruby in particular--were being forced to confront?

Okay so while Bo-Katan was making Din soup, Grogu was doing his magic hands at the cup she’s stirring. Like you can tell he isn’t demanding she hand it over, because we saw in the last episode that when he wants something he leans his whole body and nearly lunges for it. But like??? He’s got the magic hands concentration look on his face while holding out in the magic hands style he’s got??? What’s he trying to do to that soup??? I’m legit so curious what are you doing Grogurt Djarin???
