Omg hi Ms. Yellow Caballero big fan of your work <3 For real though, I'm really excited that your sharing the Weekenders, it was a joy to read and I'm bongocat-ing now that others also get the privilege to read it as well.
Referencing your tags, would you please elaborate of ableism in fandom and, like you said, how fandom treats characters with unpalatable disabilities?
Hi Ms. Bud Lite I'm a big fan of you <3
TL;DR A fear of writing characters of highly marginalized identities shields you from criticism and discomfort, but it's actively stigmatizing to people of these identities and as a writer you really need to get over yourself and write The Icky People.
I guess I'll come out swinging on this one and say that fandom doesn't like severe mental illness. (As a note, when I say severe mental illness (SMI) I mean illnesses such as psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, personality disorders, etc)
Obviously, nobody likes people w/SMI. It's just insanely egregious in fandom to me, since fanfic writers absolutely love writing characters or HC characters with depression, anxiety, or a specific variety of PTSD That Isn't Scary. People actively reject any character HCs for a SMI. When people write a character with SMI, they nicely downplay it, ignore it, substitute it for a disorder they like better, or rewrite it. It's completely untolerated, in both headcanons and in fanfiction, and every time I bring it up I always get the most interesting reasons why somebody couldn't possibly acknowledge a character's SMI in their writing. I've heard all of these:
"I don't know enough about the disorder to write it accurately." Do research.
"I'm not X, so I can't really depict it." You probably aren't a cis white man, but you depict those guys just fine.
"It feels insulting to the character." There is no shame in having a SMI.
"I can't understand what it's like, so it's better to be cautious and avoid giving characters stigmatized identities." There are LOTS of experiences that you'll never understand because you've never had them - you just don't want to write anything you're uncomfortable with. People with SMI make you uncomfortable, and you don't want to write anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, or think of a comfort character in an uncomfortable way. SMIs are marginalized differently than solely depression/anxiety/The Nice PTSD, and by refusing to write them you're actively contributing to the stigma.
I think (?) I've spoken in the past about how I believe that the rigorous external and internal policing of writing people of marginalized identities is actively harmful towards efforts to increase diversity of experience and background in fiction. A lot of fanfiction writers are just terrified to write people who they can't directly relate with, because they're worried 'they'll get it wrong' and be Big Cancelled. I think this is negative enough when it prevents people from going outside of their comfort zone, but on a macro level I think this results in people refusing to write characters of marginalized identities as all. It's an insidious thought process, and it's reflected in people's unwillingness to diversity their writing or acknowledge canon diversity.
'Well, I don't understand what it's like to be Black, so I don't want to write Black people'. 'I want to project on this character, so I only want to write them with mental illnesses and identities I have'. 'If I write a marginalized character incorrectly people will yell at me, so I won't write a marginalized character who's marginalized differently than me at all'. Can you imagine writing a lesbian character with a boyfriend because 'you feel uncomfortable writing lesbian experiences'? It's blatantly homophobic. But people do that with disability and race/ethnicity ALL THE TIME.
People with SMI notice that you feel uncomfortable with them. It's obvious. They notice when a character has a SMI + anxiety, and you only write their anxiety. They notice when a character displays symptoms of a SMI in canon, but you write it out. And POC notice when the characters of color are written out. I know we all like to project on the blorbos and relate to them, and in the joys of your own head do whatever, but as a writer if you only stick to identities you're comfortable with you are actively being a worse writer. Which to me is the REAL sin lmfao.

Saw your comment about liking Taika more the more people go after him and man do I ever agree! I enjoyed his work before OFMD and he's part of why I decided to watch in the first place, but I wouldn't have called myself a fan. But now, after all of this utter bull being hurled at him, I definitely am liking him a hell of a lot more. Guy puts up with way too much just because people can't stand him being successful for some reason.
Only other celeb I've been a fan of who puts up with just as much if not more than him is Misha Collins. The only difference is there's no racism and antisemitism behind his harassment. He's had people trying to get him fired, trying to get his shows canceled, trying to get his book pulled from publishing, spreading potentially life and career destroying slander, stalking, threatening his (now ex) wife and kids, open death threats, sexual harassment online, filmed threats of violent attacks at conventions, and more. He's even gotten zionist pinned to him even as he pushes for a cease fire and peace because he didn't talk about it the right way for some people. All because he dared to take a job on a tv show 16 years ago.
He and Taika should get together and compare notes sometime.
Yes. A lot of what I've seen directed at Taika is simply not fair to the things that he's actually said or done, and I'm not gonna qualify that with "well, I don't always agree with him" because, although I don't, I'm tired of saying it. I dig the guy's art. He makes good art. The attacks on him are extreme and obviously based in racism and antisemitism. The other people who get this kind of scrutiny are often PoC, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, etc. Very rarely (though sometimes) are they cis-het white dudes. I have a fuck lot less artistic respect for Ari Aster or Christopher Nolan or James fucking Cameron than I do for Taika Waititi.
I really do think that the undercurrent of some comments is basically that he "doesn't know his place." He's got to be "taken down a peg" or "humbled." And when that sort of sentiment gets applied to a PoC, it has fuck-all to do with the person that they actually are.

Remember when Baby Driver got low DVD sales because it came out between Theatrical and DVD release that Kevin Spacey was a child predator? Remember when one of the most amazing movies of all time got low sales because one actor in the movie had sex with a minor, and therefore it was morally wrong to give him money according to the internet, and therefore the other over 1000 people who made the movie and all the other actors and the amazing director all got paid significantly less because ONE actor in it was problematic?
Nah, Girl, I'm not surprised people voted in that stupid ass poll. It makes perfect sense to me. These fucking whiny little pussies can't handle finding out that something was only 99.99% flawless.
You would be fascinated if you looked into the JoCat controversy. JoCat, an animator on YouTube, has made over 20 cartoons about trans pride, LGBT pride, etc. But his fanbase recently discovered a cartoon he made 2 years ago called "I Like Girls" in which he tells everyone he is cis and heterosexual, and now his entire fanbase is turning against him and sending him death threats.
You should also check out Ethan Klein getting canceled by his fans. Same story.
These are people who will say "the correct things" for years, getting a huge fanbase following them of rabid liberal-left people who worship them, and then they say ONE THING that the liberal-left disagrees with, and they're as good as dead to their entire audience.
That poll and anyone voting in that poll is case in point proof that people can't handle finding out that one little iota of a percent of the thing they worship is slightly flawed.
Which is just so ironic because these are the same people who preach about fat-shaming and ableism as though everyone should be considered perfect despite their flaws, but heaven forbid that hilarious video you just finished laughing at was made by a guy who's Pro Life.
Indeed. I was not actually surprised or shocked that people were voting in the poll as well, this is the internet and more specifically this is Tumblr and if people exist who care about "pRoBlEmAtIc" media and will vote about it in a poll Tumblr is where they will be. But that's even just our culture now, like you mentioned.
I'm more just taking the opportunity to let those type of persons know that they are ridiculous and we all notice their virtue signaling and hypocrisy.
People like that are always up in arms about something but it's always the wrong thing. They love delving into people's past to find the one thing that person has said that disagrees with their narrative and put them on blast for it as if it's an unforgivable sin not to be an insufferable leftist with insufferable leftists viewpoints 100% of the time.
I hope every single one of those people either grows up and turns away from that nonsense and makes amends to everyone they hurt or gets a taste of their own medicine.

Hi hello I'm your friendly neighbourhood ghost, can I pretty please have the context about Wilbur abuse??? If you are ok with it of course , And thank you, I hope you are having a great day
hi hello ghost! Yeah no worries, I bet it's... difficult to wade through everything that's been going on
So last week, Shubble (streamer, she/they) hosted a stream about their experiences with an unnamed abuser. You can watch it here (if you prefer to read, turn on CC & read the transcript). It's a pretty hard-hitting video, and people pretty immediately guessed that it was, in fact, Wilbur Soot. He's since confirmed it himself in a statement/kind of apology (?) which u can find on his twitter... Shubble has, understandably, rejected it.
That's the short answer!
Uh for a longer one lol, there's more info here: this is an EXCELLENT conversation Shubble had (before W*lbur was officially named) with her friend lexiemariex. They both talk about the abuse and misogyny they've faced as women dating within the streaming community. Neither of them named anyone at this point either, and I actually haven't had time to watch the whole thing yet !! But about 45 minutes in so far they have both shared a lot of really important perspectives on domestic abuse, their experiences as victims (in their words) during & in recovery from those relationships, and about the really harmful norms within streaming.
Just to add a couple comments of my own: if a community is MAINLY dominated by white cis men, that's usually NOT a coincidence; it's usually (at least partly) because the environment is hostile to diversity. Several other people have also come forward about negative experiences with Shubble's ex in particular, but I REALLY think--personally--that it is a mistake to focus just on him. He is, for better or worse, Just Some Guy: it REALLY sounds like his behaviours reflect a deeply harmful culture within streaming. We can't and should not try to cancel all streamers, obviously! But... if we REALLY want to centre survivors? We need to hold the whole community accountable for the CULTURE they've gotten comfortable with.
To be clear, I'm not suggesting that all white men in streaming are malicious people, who only want to hurt/abuse/have power over the weak & helpless women in their sphere. But there's been writing on the wall for a long time: there's a lot of casual misogyny that we HAVE seen streamers ignore, even if they wouldn't (necessarily...) make those jokes themselves. I do NOT have receipts on hand lol, but that's been my observation over the years. So I think it's... too simplistic to say that Shubble's ex, and lexie's, were just outliers. A couple of bad eggs.
We can cancel them, and exile them from streaming, sure--fine. We certainly don't owe anyone a platform. But we also NEED to look beyond the individual people & understand that every single one of them is a product of their culture and community.
tl;dr Shubble's ex is shitty, for sure, but he's not the whole problem! He's a symptom.
oh omg last thing actually: as people navigate how to respond to unfeminist/antifeminist content creators, I'd like to recommend Roxane Gay's perspective in Bad Feminist (excerpt here). As people who consume media, we have to understand that our consumption will always be imperfect, because (again) the problems are deeply embedded in like. the whole culture . We can & will continue to work for a better future, but in the meantime we've gotta forgive ourselves & our comrades for being imperfect <3

A big reason I'm against the fear-mongering the internet does against doctors (basically saying every doctors is out to get you and be an ass) is that: I worked in a clinic and I spent/will spend my whole life inside hospitals as a severe chronically ill person, and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who legit DIE because "the internet said the doctor was BAD." and they don't show up to their appointment/follow medications or actually listen to their doctors. Hell I'll always remember the case of a woman who cancelled her cancer appointment to get her hair dyed instead because she didn't trust doctors because "The internet said so." I get it, some doctors are asses, I know. I had some( I'm an Ace trans dude, bound to meet rotten apples in that field with such life cards.), but overgeneralizing every single one out there and label them as close-minded fatphobic/transphobic asses is just as false. The very first person I opened to to start my transition AND who gave me all the resources and recommended me to start my transition was my gastroenterologist. The many different doctors I've met are those that kept me alive and well and have always been incredibly supportive.
It would be like saying every restaurants is absolute shit because you went to one and had a bad experience...
When I dealt with a shitty doctor? I went somewhere else and sought a second opinion. I dealt with a transphobic doctor? I changed endocrinologist and got a sweetheart guy that literally goes around medical schools to teach upcoming doctors how to better care for transgender patients and about new research in the field, side effects not seen with CIS patients but visible in transgender patient, etc.
If you deal with a bad doctor, you are completely allowed to speak out about it, but a bad counterproductive reaction is to go: "I had this bad doctor therefor ALL doctors are bad and shitty and you should self-diagnose and self-medicate.( I don't even know where to begin to tell you that's a terrible idea.) The only thing you get by making people scared to even go to the doctor is death.
I'm serious.
You can advocate for improvement, that's for sure( it sure can use it for fatphobia in the field, for instance), but making people think every doctors is out to get them/judge them is NOT it.

He probably found you wondering around hell all confused and decided to take you in
He was wondering what you did to end up in hell and started to question you gently trying not to be too forcefull
"How'd you end up here?"
You both would decorate things in clown core all of the time and he would try to get you into his more circus-esque theme
He'd probably give you sweets all of the time just to see you smile
Every now and then you'll give him something too like an apple and he may cry from happiness.
"Oh... th-thank you so much" :')
You try to cheer him up as best as possible whenever he's sad
You both joke about your trauma... a lot... please get help-
He would totally give you piggy back rides if you ask for it
He doesn't mind your tourrets and instead will do whatever he can and more to make sure that you're safe and that you feel safe around him
"Hey... are you okay?"
He gives you affection all of the time <3
Introducing you to Charlie was hard as he didn't want to make you too overwhelmed by her as she can sometimes be a lot but he managed to find a way and you both got along great :)
Overall you both are a very caring couple <3

I don't want OP stressing out or feeling like I'm trying to cancel them or something so I'm just saying something here. re: theorizing pete wentz is a trans fem egg.
are we really fucking ignorant enough to reinvent gender roles?! at best the penis thing could be ""evidence"" but why the hell are we seriously still on this train? theorizing about labels for real people? "let's break the binary!!" until someone actually fucking does it, then we're all so eager to shove people into a box. "egg" was a term to describe yourself in the past before you understood your identity, not a way to put labels on people who haven't ever used them. everyone loves the trans fem in their mind.
MAYBE he's not cis. but yknow what? no amount of "evidence" is evidence when you're talking about someone's personal identity. the idea that you think you can "piece it together" is parasocial as hell, and not in a good way. it's also just. straight up fucking gender roles. "oh he's a guy who wants to wear feminine or androgynous clothing, must be a woman!" yknow who says that? homophobes. transphobes. the only difference is they say "oh he's a guy who wants to wear girls clothes? tranny" instead.
let cis men and everyone else be fucking androgynous and feminine without you deciding they're trans/insert identity here. YES, this applies to gerard way, too. you don't get to choose someone else's pronouns. yall sound like the fucking gaylors jfc

It's kind of a sad statement of the LGBTQ community's fakeness and digital structure online when the only person I've been able to openly talk out my trans bullshit with is my het dude military buddy, and trust me, what I rage about would get me hung online by people with agendas, but I have a feeling they're things other old queer people sit on while we stare at this digital shithole making us all look like clowns.
On the other hand, it's particularly affirming when the same issues I deal with are things that set him off on Manrants.
Like listen, I already had to accept the terrible string of "i am a straight man" in order. Like man, do you know how long i clung to he/him lesbian and just avoided talking about what I can only call Phallic Issues?
Cuz there's not even anywhere to talk about it. For one it's difficult and often inappropriate and for two, a bunch of digital goblins that aren't looking to Pass As A Life They Live, but rather Stick Out In Digital Arguments With A Rainbow Label have made this fucking conversation ungoddamn navigable to the people it was actually originally about. There's some bored person with 2.5 kids who's husband still hasn't found their clit trying to figure out their sexuality coming in fucking up literal like neuroscience and other dialogue because, how dare the *straight man be here at all, much less like, talk about sexual shit. People can't do that, that's illegal.
So where am I left going? Literally to my dudebros, that say all kinds of shit I generally don't even agree with politically, but they're the only motherfuckers who haven't set up so many fake social justice fences based on their own personal garbage comfort demands so I can literally go, no. Can you believe these dipshits want me to explain like they're five what happens inside a man's head?
And they be like nah man that's a trap the second you breathe a word about it you're cancelled.
Yeah, no shit.
Honestly I'm tired of so many things. I mentioned recently that coming out as a trans straight guy is a trap. You're man enough to be the token straight punching bag, but not enough for your perspective to be considered in conversations, without being grilled to justify Basic Truths until you have to say some shit someone can act offended about. And boy are the terfs pissed and happy to blow them dogwhistles on us
God i'm tired
it's not the gamerdudes on reddit driving up the trans suicide rate. it's you assholes. They genuinely Do Not Care if you identify as attack helicopters. They don't. They don't care I'm a dude. They were basically like yeah what about it you've always been dudegirl that's whatever dude. It's this digital shithole that turns it into a whole goddamn ceremony fused with astrophysics.
I'd rather hang out with dudes I've known for 20 years that occasionally fuck up a pronoun by force of habit and actually laugh at how it looks/sounds now, than deal with you assholes acting like i skinned your child because I didn't read a 3 page Carrd about your narcissism or people who decide every convo is a chance to proselytize their own personal label's struggle.
And that says nothing about the fact that people have set up this conversation so we can't even address that YES, THERE ARE FAKERS. Are trans people dangerous, no. Are narcissists that can play boggle with gender arguments dangerous? Yes.
Think about 2po. I still call him him, because his friends, like his pal snotrag that doxxed my friend with him, even still calls him pat. But see, when he went viral as a proven fail and everybody was talking about pat, suddenly, pat had a gender discovery and was they/them will. Nevermind the more masculine name and that the person was initially a cis man, I guess they had a deep come to jesus moment and deeply identified as the Fail Gender. I guess that script blast was so hard it knocked the he/him right off of them. Considering the pepe memes his buddy uses, I wouldn't be surprised if 2po logs onto his personal to psot attack helicopter jokes and laugh at this godforsaken shithole.
(That's not to say all they/them nb is invalid either before some titanic dickhead proves the real point of this whole post and the need to add constant asterisks to avoid some shitheaded bored kid seeking attention starting a fight)
People only make the bad, dead, beat out joke at our expense because of the people that make us look like fucking comedy with their weird bullshit. Stop it.
But sure keep hyper obsessively segregating us into microlabels and pretending it's helping trans people or breaking down gender roles or what the fuck ever.
Yeah them microlabels are decent ways to describe facets of human sexual potential, and can/should be tools to help you sort your head out. But my bio shouldn't have to look like an ingredient label on processed food to engage in this conversation. It's not fucking complicated, Karen. If you have to do that many goddamn backflips to argue your way into this conversation maybe stay the fuck out of it.
Just because it's true that you don't need active dysphoria to be trans (and sometimes almost have Triggers specific to things like, I dunno, sexuality) doesn't mean it gets to be the jungle gym of every fucking teenager on the internet trying to figure out their general identity, and stop trying to call my still untransitioned trans ass a terf or a truscum for it, you fucking terfs. Stop flipping this shit around.
Literally if you look at twitter/tumblr, 50% of the world is trans. And while that's a charming thought for a dialogue about the repressed minority or the truth of Gender or whatever the fuck, in the real world, less than 1% identify, and those of us that exist in real world queer spaces might GENEROUSLY estimate maybe 5%? like cap? If I took 95% of you motherfuckers, unplugged your internet and dropped you in the Appalachians, you probably wouldn't be trans or care about trans issues by the time you stumbled out. But that's the life some of us have actually been through, so stop shitting on the mountain trail, it's rough enough out here.
Most of you are logging off to your 2.5 kids and husband anyway. Don't call me a biphobe for it. By all means sweetie go figure your shit out, fuck up and out whatever storm with whomever you want, go figure out your bullshit, but stop trying to make your bullshit the communal bullshit. We fucking get it. You got to the party late and your shit still has you uncomfortable. Stop trying to take over the fucking party, your music choice sucks. Back to the hetero world with you.
But most of you never will. You're never gonna pursue it. You're just gonna fuck around in our conversation to try to actually make it to conform to you, which somehow always makes the hets and terfs the dominant force on this conversation under all the screaming noise. You won't LET it impact your lives the way it has those that have lived experiences, you try to make US clean up and sterilize OURS. Lived experiences also doesn't mean Have Already Fucked And Found Out, and if you even thought that argument, disqualify yourself from ever speaking on this again, because you clearly aren't even vaguely in touch with the queer experience, you're in touch with the Seeking A Place To Belong experience. It's adjacent, but not the same.
Realistically, 99% of the supposed digital queer community are, at best, Questioning, and using digital personas to fuck around and find out. The fucking LGBTQ conversation has been just. utterly hijacked and clowned unto itself by people Questioning, but not willing to ask the hard parts, and demand those uncomfy parts stay away from their LARP.
Hard pass.

Hey! I wanted to ask a couple questions in good faith re some of your recent about your trans journey if you're comfortable with it! Why use the word detransition to describe embracing feminity again (this one is personal I'm sorry but is this referencing a more physical change like stopping hormones or a mental shift?) and - re the post about binary trans was and TT - How do I get out of the mindset that trans is a reaction to cis-ness, like you can only be Really Trans it you're an afab person who is a masculine man, the "opposite" of societal expectations.
that's a very good question! i don't mind answering at all
we use the word detransition in relation to our transition to mean the severe re-tracking of our identity. we were forced to identify as a strictly binary cishet passing trans man for about 8 years of our life. we came out in 2011 as a genderqueer/nonbinary person stating "i'm not a guy or a girl, just a person", but the people in our life refused to acknowledge that and basically said if we were "truly" trans, we had to be a guy.
we leaned very, very hard into binary trans manhood as a result, because we needed to transition or we weren't going to make it. we dressed in very plain clothing, polos, t-shirts, slacks, jeans, nothing "fruity". if we got called too feminine we changed our look. very short hair. no makeup or accessories. he/him only. we lived at the gym and couldn't talk about any "cute" things, that kind of stuff, couldn't even talk about being attracted to men because that would "cancel out" our transness. we lived with cishet men at this time and for years, and they reinforced this behavior, because again, in order to be trans, we needed to be the manliest man possible
that behavior made me break in 2020 because while i'm a masculine person, i'm just not that. i couldn't handle it anymore and i finally had had enough after someone approached us saying "sir? ... ma'am?? ... i'm sorry, i can't tell." one of our headmates was at the dollar store and saw press on nails and grabbed some. we got a few other femme accessories and went home and got dolled up and felt more like ourselves than ever. we finally felt like ourselves again
the reason we use the word "detransition" for this journey is because there's a lot of steps involved when it comes to changing your identity and how it's perceived by others. i am actually referring to the steps i am taking backwards from being jammed into binary manhood, and how we have to reinvent our identity. we do identify as a trans man, but in a very complicated, dykey, nonbinary way and in referring to "detransition" we are talking about walking back toward the nonbinary male-adjacent person we were in the past
i am also transitioning into my femininity and womanhood as those have been denied from me my entire life as a very high T intersex person (which is why i identify as transfemasc or transfem + transmasc). transition can be multi forked it's not always a linear thing that only goes in one direction. i am a multigender system, i am not one person so i naturally experience multiple genders, and many of us are transitioning in different ways. but none of us are binary men, so we had to detransition from the transition we were forced into having by other people.
hope that clears that part up!
"How do I get out of the mindset that trans is a reaction to cis-ness, like you can only be Really Trans it you're an afab person who is a masculine man, the "opposite" of societal expectations."
a friend asked me this the other day, or something to that same effect. transness is not a reaction to cisness, it is a reflection of someone needing to be seen and heard, not to be told who we are. we have to transition because cis people force their view of how we should live on to us, it doesn't matter if a trans man is stereotypically masculine or not, telling them how to identify is as unproductive as telling a cisgender man they're not a man because their voice is high pitched. it doesn't make a difference at the end of the day, that man isn't cis as a reaction to being called feminine by others.
we are transitioning to live our happy lives. our transitions have nothing to do with anyone but ourselves. i think ppl get this idea in their heads that transitioning has to do with tricking people, or something, but it really is about that person, try just remind yourself to not make an individual's transition about everyone else around them (how they are perceived). let them be the authority & the expert on their identity, just as you would a cisgender person. is a cisgender person isn't being cis in reaction to transness, then it doesn't rly make sense to make the argument in the other direction.
hope that helps! sorry for the novel but i got kinda into it. take care, have a great day, stay safe out there

time to talk about this insta post
Tumblr media
(because i have time on my hands and i hate myself)
So I've seen a few people react to this post and wanted to add my thoughts as someone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community (i'm a nonbinary ace lesbian).
I realise the person who made the insta post is probably very young but they're also a cishet person talking about queer stories and queer experiences in a somewhat insensitive way and I wanted to add my two cents as someone who joined this fandom as a fifteen-year-old and at 29 is now a fandom "elder".
(update: since writing this post, i have learned that not only is the original poster 22 years old of age, but also incredibly racist, antisemitic and insensitive about people's deaths, so yeah we're not gonna be charitable to them)
Tumblr media
firstly, as the person who made the post is cishet, it's not their place to dictate what is and isn't "good" trans representation. it's also not their place to dictate whether or not they are "a transphobic". when discussing issues around trans representation, if you aren't a part of that community, you should sit back and listen to trans people (and you might learn something so you don't look so ignorant)
it's also super weird to say sheldon bieste shouldn't be trans because "they could have just focused on unique instead". you can have more than one trans character!!! ALL the characters could be trans if you want!
i can't believe i even need to say this but ... gay and bi trans men exist. non-heterosexual trans people of all genders exist.
Tumblr media
"i know lots of people ship them and i'm not trying to cancel your opinions..." and yet here you are, trying and failing to convince people not to ship them.
listen friend - crackships exist. shippers gonna ship. sometimes people just don't like the canon ships and that's ok.
Tumblr media
"Klaine may have some problems but it doesn't mean there is a need to ship them with another guy" - has it occurred to you that the people who ship Kurtbastian and Seblaine don't like Klaine?
*the next point is about Kurt in Laryngitis and I don't really have anything to say about it
Tumblr media
this is the one that I sort of agree with but I didn't like Dani (she gave me Arielle Scarcella fan vibes and was probably a TERF) so I'm biased. at the risk of sounding like one of those people who defends their fave even when they're being kind of dickbags ... the biphobia started with Dani/Santana wanting to "impress" Dani who is (a) maybe the first out lesbian she's ever met and (b) openly biphobic. I also headcanon Santana as having ADHD and think Dani was kind of a hyperfixation of hers
Tumblr media
...if quinn not into girls why dianna play her so gay?
"i always wondered what it would be like to be with a woman" is a very fruity thing for a straight person to say let's be real
here's a fun idea though: how about let's not just assume that everyone is straight?
(again, the above image was posted by a cis straight person)
Tumblr media
😬
honestly this section to me feels like one big huge lump of text that my audhd brain is not absorbing in the way i want it to soooooo...
Tumblr media
ok i'm gonna try here...
"i don't get why santana tries to get brittany while she is dating artie" ummmm because she has a crush on brittany ... what, is she supposed to just turn off her feelings just because brittany's dating someone else? she is neurodivergent and a minor a 16 year old child homie, give her a break jfc...
(obviously she didn't go about her feelings towards brittany in s2 or s4 in the best way but she was also young at the time and not great at communicating but i think it's important to recognise that she did get better as the series went on and brittana grew stronger as a couple in the long run)
as for "santana doesn't recognise brittany as bi" ... santana literally said in her proposal to brittany that doing it in front of the glee club would "upset all the single guys and gals" so obviously she is aware that brittany is attracted to people of different genders and openly acknowledges it.
Tumblr media
i genuinely don't know what to say about this... i'm more of a casual klaine enjoyer so we're not at the level of deep philosophical analysis yet but if anyone wants to take this one (looking at you, scout) be my guest.
Tumblr media
"i don't understand the hate towards klaine in s4 as a couple" ... i mean they weren't really a couple because they were broken up for most of season 4
blaine has really grown on me recently but "i needed you and you weren't there" wasn't much of an apology
the OP of the post has also said some sketchy things about race to a twitter mutual of mine, i.e. saying mercedes is racist against white people, which ......
Tumblr media
so ... in summary
headcanons exist. webster defines headcanon as "something that a fan imagines to be true about a character even though no information supporting that belief is spelled out in the text"
while we live in a cisheteronormative society, we should refrain from assuming everyone is cis and/or straight.
it's okay for fans to prefer a crack couple over a canon couple (as long as they tag appropriately).
if you're a cishet person in a queer space, you need to approach queer stories with care and respect, and sometimes that involves not talking when you don't have experience with something
reverse racism doesn't exist
don't be racist or antisemitic, and definitely don't say insensitive shit about people's deaths
eat the rich and fuck the patriarchy

FRANCIS. and donnie. and…… 🙈 ezzie… ezzie dax.
jesus christ this is long. im putting it under a readmore
franny:
Sexuality Headcanon: bisexual. I don't think he realized it until his teen/adult years and now it doesnt really affect his life much now since he married piama so young but I can also see him using the fact he likes men as a way to rebel against lois (sidnote i wouldnt really consider lois homophobic if any of her kids came out she would be like "well i believe in equality so I'm going to make all you boys' lives equally miserable regardless of your sexuality. idgaf if you're gay go clean the toilet". um anyway). i just think it would be funny if piama had a celebrity crush or something and she was like wow hes sooo hot and francis would b like yeah he is 🤨😳
Gender Headcanon: i think hes a whiny little cis boy sorry. francisgender
A ship I have with said character: i do think he and piama are cute together :) i just wish she was in the show more and had an actual personality and stuff >:(((((((
A BROTP I have with said character: I like when he's with the rest of his family and gets to hang out with his brothers :) DEWER ESPECIALLY there is something so special to me abt him taking care of dewey and being kinder to him than malcolm and reese are
A NOTP I have with said character: Any other time in the early seasons when he dated a random girl for 1 episode i was like. um ok? but i didnt really HATE any of those
A random headcanon: uhhhh i feel like i should have something prepared to say here but idk. I think he listens to. weezer. fuck this
General Opinion over said character: FEMINIST WOMEN LOVE FRANCIS. also you already know every opinion ive ever had about francis already but hes so pathetic and stupid I need to squish him between my thumb and forefinger
don of tello lol:
Sexuality Headcanon: HES SO GAYBOY. LOOK AT HIS GAY ASS ANIME GIRL STANCE WHAT IS THISSSSSS
Tumblr media
Gender Headcanon: i dont think he is cis or trans i think he is a turtle . i think he can swimming in the water for algaes.  hope this helps
A ship I have with said character: nobody... tbh the ninja turtles are kinda unshippable to me. theyre just Creatures they dont “date”. But im not that far into the show yet so maybe there is another character that he can have a yaoi moment with later. But im not counting on it
A BROTP I have with said character: obviously all 4 of da turtle brothers are awesome together but DONNIE AND MIKEY ARE BESTIE VIBES!! Theyre my 2 favorites and i love their dynamic esp since they get paired up kinda often. I feel like they are the closest to each other out of all of them cause they’re both kind of the “weird” ones. Theyre neurodivergent and a minor. Also i like that donnie calls mikey “michael” its funny
A NOTP I have with said character: theres not really any viable shipping options to like or dislike . other than like the really reprehensible stuff like incest which is just like Why. do you know how sad and upsetting it is that so many tmnt blogs have to stipulate “no incest” in their bio? Can we all be normal and regular please?
A random headcanon: definitely the most online guy. Its really funny to enivision him being like a discord mod and getting into fights with people on reddit. Basically this 👇
Tumblr media Tumblr media
General Opinion over said character:  he’s kind so annoying but in a funny and endearing way (much like many of my favorite guys...) but he ourple so that makes up for it. My favorite tutle
ezzie:
Sexuality Headcanon: Dax and all their symbionts are like. Inherently and canonically bisexy
Gender Headcanon: everyone likes to take the “I’m having trouble with my pronouns!!” line out of context 😑 but for real she said “some mornings I don’t know if im a man or a woman until i pull back the sheet” which um... kinda transphobic... we CANCEL the ezri!!!! Jk she can be whatever you want baby. Any pronouns
A ship I have with said character: MIRROR EZRI INTENDANT KIRA HOT SOAPY BOOBS YURI LESBIAN KISS
A BROTP I have with said character: she has no friends lol sorry. Theres not really any bestie vibes between her and sisko the way there was with jadzia
A NOTP I have with said character: ONE MILLION TIMES JEZRI. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!! umm also when she started making out with worf i was like fml. That episode got me feeling so worfzia warrior but only because i was thinking “damn i wish jadzia was still here and worf was making out with jadzia instead.” it just feels weird to me
A random headcanon: idk what do you want me to say. shes so tumblrina.General Opinion over said character: i know ive tormented you enough with the senorita awesome video but that really is how i see her. Im so sorry sam please dont be mad at me but I just don’t like her that much. She’s so #QUIRKY and its really grating. And I know that she didn’t formally complete her training but she is NOT a good ship’s counselor. If i went to my therapist and told her i was depressed or whatever and she was like “yeah sometimes i wanna kill myself too 😋 the #intrusivethoughts are so AWKO TACO!!” i think i would blow my brains out. But in Field of Fire when she was trying to solve that murder case and was hunting down that vulcan guy with a cool gun that was the ONE epsiode where i liked her and thought she was cool. I would like her more if she was badass like that more of the time

it's so funny when european fanartists are all "how do you expect me to know american race politics" when they get called out for whitewashing, like, dude, you're making art of characters of color from american media, american politics are going to be relevant

seen some posts getting worried that ofmd will become like hamilton in that people will start obsessing over and romanticizing historical slaveowners but i feel like that misses that most of ofmd is fictionalized. like most of the supporting cast of ofmd are fictional characters as well as characters of color who experience in-canon racism, meanwhile hamilton has zero characters of color - it's all historical white people played by poc. ofmd is a comedy with a million intentional historical accuracies simply for fun (e.g. blackbeard's goth outfit) while hamilton's surface inaccuracies are just the casting and music - it presents itself as serious historical fact in a way ofmd absolutely does not. enjoying a character in hamilton necessarily means grappling with a historical white person whereas even enjoying stede or blackbeard doesn't mean that because stede and blackbeard do things in ofmd that they didn't historically do and interact with people who didn't historically exist.
hamilton is a white history told by people of color, whereas ofmd takes a few historical figures and uses them as inspiration for a comedy show with a diverse cast. frankly, comparing a tv show with actual characters of color to hamilton, which despite its casting has zero characters of color, seems really bad-faith and smacks of trying to cancel tumblr's new fave rather than actually offer any analysis of it

between jonathan being like "i can't wait to meet my good friend dracula and ask him why the townspeople keep talking about vampires" and lucy being like "this guy stares at me really intensely and says i'm a fascinating psychological study, i think i'm in love <3", i think mina's type is "cannot spot red flags"

tumblr did not undersell how funny it is to read dracula as a modern reader. jonathan's all like "why would i need a crucifix when going to visit The Castle of Count Dracula. i'm not even catholic"

it's always so fucking funny to me when terfs are like "how can you say trans women and women are the same thing! being born as a man makes you different!" because like. yes. trans women and cis women are different. so are black women and white women. and straight women and queer woman. and women from different countries and different socioeconomic statuses. there's diversity in the experience of womanhood? what a wild concept

really annoys me that a lot of my old art inspos that I also looked up to for their identities keep coming out as transmasc. like they can do whatever they want im just being a petty little hater. it was just important to me to see someone i could look up not only for art but for my own personal identity its late and im not the best at explaining but it meant a lot to see that being a masculine woman was just allowed. to be a cis woman who wanted to be seen as just some guy while also being a woman.
it feels that maybe being a masculine woman is wrong in a sense when half of the people i watch state that it was used as a bridge for them to find their identity (again fair enough power to them hope theyre doing well im just being a little hater) and the other half on my goddamn recommended on tiktok/youtube shorts state that being a masculine woman is just, attention seeking mental illness. maybe im wrong and a bad person, everyone i used to heavily relate to their experiences in femininity no longer express it in a way that i can see as inspirational and its trouble finding people i can relate to as closely again. sorry im not sure if this was ment to be shared on anon or not byt im paranoid of being cancelled if i misphrased this i wanted to go to sleep an hour ago
you're not a little hater i think you are just frustrated! and that's understandable.
i struggle a lot with the idea of femininity as a whole because having grown up Under That Roof i find it very difficult to reconcile "i am a daughter and that is important to me" with "i am not a Feminine Girly Girl though". in the end that made the most sense to me when i tentatively crossed over the line and said "maybe i'm not a girl at all. maybe i'm a daughter to my parents, and not even a girl at all to everyone else?"
i grew up as an awkward tomboy, rejected femininity and tried to present more "masculine" without really understanding why i was expected to present either way. i usually look at it this way: for a long time i WAS a girl. and some part of me still is that girl who grew up like that. so women's issues will always be important to me, and the idea that women should be allowed to present themselves however they want ("masculine" but still a woman, for example, fits here like a glove!) is especially important to me.
i have friends who grew up assigned male, too, and the idea that men can't even put on a dress without someone going "omg She must be trans" is ALSO hurtful believe it or not. (see drag queens and also the wider ongoing discussion on gender vs presentation vs the binary). it feels like no matter where you sit, someone is going to insist you have to be something. everyone is very excited about gender but sometimes people can be a cis man and wear Feminine(C)(TM) clothes and sometimes it's a cis woman wearing a suit or t-shirt and jeans and refusing to perform the Tits Manifesto and that's still a ciswoman if she says so.
for me that pressure manifested as going "fuck this i'm nonbinary i am not interested in gender" and sometimes that includes deliberately manspreading when i can see someone is trying to interpret me as female. or hunching to hide the tits. but i don't think i'm transmasc and i don't really want that label on me. i just don't think of myself that way - i'm nonbinary and i don't WANT to "present as masc" or "present as femme". i just want to present in a way that cuts people off when they try to box me in. nipping it off in the bud. culture of No Not Like that.
what i'm saying is:
i still (and will always, and am constantly reminded because i don't "pass" well) remember what being a woman is like. and let's be honest, so does wider society, because most people are still operating on "awww you had a baby is it a boy or a girl?" terms, and then Assigning Stuff depending on that.
but rejecting that assignment doesn't always mean having to transition. i had to scrutinise this concept a lot over the years, and i still scrutinise it now. am i nonbinary or am i just a woman who is so, so, so, sick of being expected to be a woman?
for me, the answer has become "i'm not going to look at it too hard, and i'm most comfortable when i introduce myself as Nil Zero None Gender. so i guess i'm nonbinary."
for other people who grew up as women, the answer may be something else, like: "i'm a woman and being a woman doesn't mean having to twiddle my hair and giggle and That's That On That"
i was born in the early 1990s and grew up not knowing what a trans person was. the word "transgender" didn't hit my vocabulary until i was about 16-17. i saw rocky horror and thought it was a one-off weird film that someone just made up from their head. omg a man in women's clothes? made up [laughcry emoji] (i loved the film anyway and looking back now, it's hilarious that all i knew was cisgender and yet i still Felt The Film So Important To Me)
so i think a lot of people grew up not having a choice. and now there's a choice, a lot of people are going "oh my god thank goodness" and taking that choice. i think the large numbers of transmascs could be partly helped along by the sheer relief of not having to Perform Girl any more (take this with a pinch of salt i'm only one person).
but this doesn't (and shouldn't) detract from the experiences of women who were assigned You're Woman and still consider themselves women. because this is 2022. women face their own issues (inequality, pay gaps, discrimination) and this has been going on for a truly archaeological timespan and it needs to be addressed, with or without the transgender discussion. preferably with! because we are stronger that way and can make better and more nuanced points by referring to the way trans people are treated.
i don't quite know how to end this post but - it IS frustrating that the presentation of your gender (woman) feels like it's being minimalised, as if people are jumping ship like rats escaping a sinker. i understand that feeling completely. but the Woman Battleship is not actually sinking, i promise!
i think what you need to do is find other cis girls/women like you, (like. preferably who support trans rights and aren't bigots and understand there is a wider scope here), and try to connect with those women. because they are out there! and i do NOT doubt in the slightest that that frustration is present in them too. i think the more you discuss it (while - PLEASE - still keeping kindness to transmascs in mind, they really are just experiencing something you don't experience yourself, it's not that deep and maybe it's helpful to sit back and go "not for me but aight") - the more you'll feel comfortable with your presentation and understanding of yourself as a woman.
women's rights are still being shat on. i won't beat around the bush here. it still sucks to be a woman. and transitioning helps an individual to come to terms with their own self, but we are all still going to have to fight the same fight because the fight is still there. an employer isn't going to give you the same treatment as the male employees just because you look like a woman with some beard scruff, unfortunately. people like you (cis woman) and me (no gender) and transmascs (transmascs) have to link arms in this matter. we know the same trouble and it still hurts and it's still raw.
so i guess the full tl;dr is: i was a woman once and it sucked and that's why i want every cis woman to know that i understand and cannot ever stop understanding. there are Expectations on women and if i ever see a woman EVEN POLITELY asked to "wear a skirt please. women have to wear skirts for this" i will start biting. women don't have to perform anything for anyone. women are women who are women because they are women. anyone who thinks there has to be a performative element can die mad

Gra, your blog has really been a lighthouse for all these years, you kept the fandom together even in the worst times, a huge thank you and an even bigger hug.
I would have liked so much for the producers to have been notified earlier so they could have worked out the season in such a way, that's how it usually works (Blindspot and the last episodes of season 5 come to mind but there are so many others). For the anon who mentioned cutting the shows for conservative reasons, I can't believe that in 2022 there can still be this kind of censorship, Disney itself is getting there, the representation of reality is representation of the couples who inhabit it, LGBTQI+ included. Heartstopper and its success are a blatant example of that 🤷‍♀️. Sorry for the very long ask. A giant thank you again 💝
Gaaah, you guys make me blush so hard with all your lovely messages today. 😳🙈
Thank you so much, I'm sending a big hug right back! \0/
And I agree, I wish the cast and crew had known about the cancelation before wrapping S4. Not even just to potentially "fix" the ending in case it needed any fixing, but to give them all a chance to mourn together, and properly say goodbye. 😟
Srsly, conservatives can fuck off into the sun and step on Lego barefooted for the rest of eternity. I'm disgusted by their faux concern for children being exposed to queer people/stories when it's really just thinly disguised homophobia and hatred of anyone not cis/straight.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant but these assholes make my blood boil. 🤬
Anyway, the world certainly needs more shows and stories like Heartstopper, this show continues to be my happy place. 🥰
Thanks again for your message! *MWAAAAH* 😘
