So I came across this image on pinterest and was like... I want that!
Then I saw the €135 price tag and was like... nah, I don't want that.
I want something like that. But less expensive, and also less multicoloured. The company calls it a cape, so I started project The Cape.
I went to the fabric store, saw a huge amount of fun stuff but nothing with the stubtle star pattern I had imagined for The Cape, so I just got 200x135cm of the plainest black linen.
Made some arm holes and hung it up because I have no time to work on it today.
Tomorrow I'll search through my stash for suitable fabric to line the armholes. And I might commit to the herculean task of hemming the unfinished edges
Sorry not sorry to grannypost again but look at this amazing jacket she made me??? She wove it herself on her loom out of wool, silk, banana fibre and scraps of old cloth. The buttons are made of antler. It took her a year and a half and I love it! It’s not vegan, but it is handmade, largely local and very sustainable. It’s an item of clothing I have a personal connection to because of the story behind it, and it shows that reducing how much cotton and polyester we wear doesn’t have to mean drab or boring clothing. So it feels pretty solarpunk to me! Now to learn how to do this kind of thing myself…
It's December of 1775, and Elizabeth can no longer bear the boredom of staying indoors. She wants so badly to take a horseback ride around town with her best friend Felicity, but the Merrimans are not receiving visitors while Mrs. Merriman recovers from the birth of her new baby, Polly. So Elizabeth dresses in her bright red riding habit and goes on a solo ride.
Elizabeth's riding habit was made by me from an old wool jacket. I didn't want it to resemble Felicity's too closely, so I used the actual outfit from her collection as inspiration, as well as the one she wears in Felicity's movie.
I also made her riding hat by covering a plastic container lid with felt. I tried white felt on the first version, but didn't love it and so made it black instead.
Elizabeth herself is my customized doll made to resemble the original version of Elizabeth Cole depicted in Felicity's books.
I FINISHED IT YALL!! wore it for the first time ever and it felt absolutely amazing. I didn't think I would love it that much but it is now my child. Thank you for coming along on this mini journey, I want to start a new top soon so stay tuned for that <3
