“ASTORFLEX” Redflex, Dark Wine. Made in Italy.
A company who’s name was invented by the father of Fabio Travenzoli together with his brother Bettino at the beginning of the 19th century, 1820, in Castel D’Ario, Mantova. Where the first shoe factory was set up. There were lots of small family-run work-shop that produced handmade footwear with leather uppers and woodden soles after the first world war, at the outset of industrialisation. The Small ‘fratelli Travenzoli’ concern started to produce different types of footwear using the ‘ideal’method (outer stitching along the edge of the sole).

Notes from Jonathan Stroud’s panel at the Festival della Letteratura  - 07.09.19
As some may know, on the 7th of September I went in Mantova to see Jonathan Stroud’s panel concerning the Fanfiction Lab initiative. He was supposed to be interviewed by Licia Troisi.
[For context, Licia Troisi is a very famous Italian fantasy writer, mostly known for the saga of the Emerged World -la saga del Mondo Emerso- and a great fan of Stroud’s books]
So here a bunch of excerpts I managed to write down despite being so emotional I could barely sit still:
·      Licia Troisi was as excited as every single member of the audience put together
·      Stroud started writing when he was about 4 years old, on handmade books made of wallpaper his mother gave him Licia Troisi is thinking about stealing them I CAN FEEL IT
·      He usually starts to write from a single scene that inspires him
·      For Bartimaeus it was a young mage and a demon bickering what a surprise
·      For Lockwood it was a boy and a girl with rapiers going in a house to fight a ghost (at the moment, he had no idea what the swords were for)
·      HE HAS NO IDEA WHERE THE STORY IS HEADING UNTIL 2/3 IN THE SERIES, THANK GOD WE’RE NOT ALONE
·      Like, he decided the end of the Bartimaeus Sequence two books in. Three for L&C.
·      And he usually gets stuck halfway through the story because no planning: we die like men, I guess, and then goes to his wife for advice
·      He wanted to subvert the main features from Harry Potter when he started writing, and that’s why wizards are politicians and also extremely evil (“Looking around now, I think I’m a fortune-teller”)
·      He likes the footnotes because “you can put everything there and forget it” because it’s not in the main body of the story
·      “Like every author, I am a thief and a magpie” which is the coolest way ever to say that you will never be able to write something completely original and that you always reinvent things taken from others
·      He kept asking question to Licia Troisi, who got increasingly embarrassed and excited about it (understandable)
·      “Do the characters still talk to you after so many years?” “Yes, but not in a creepy way”
·      He still writes things about Bartimaeus when the inspiration strikes and from Licia Troisi’s expression I know she is planning to hack Stroud’s computer
·      He likes the idea that his characters keep living thanks to fanmade content (and he especially likes looking for fanart), and admires the way fanfictions show different versions of the characters that are all valid despite having nothing in common with each other
·      An hour in and he is still trying to interview Licia Troisi
·      No amount of “It was supposed to be Licia Troisi presents Jonathan Stroud, not the other way!” can stop him
·      He still trusts that someone will make the Bartimaeus movie “but like, a middle-aged man’s trust”
·      He’d really like a Bartimaeus’ board game
·      THERE’S BEEN RUMORS CONCERNING A TV SERIES ON LOCKWOOD AND CO
·      Concerning cosplay: “The characters are alive and they are out there. You don’t need me anymore!”
·      He’s working on a new series, a sort of dystopic/post-apocalyptic western, set in a London destroyed by rebellions and fights: “It’s my novel on Brexit”
·      His mother, after reading The Amulet of Samarcand:    “You know he is exactly like you, right?”      “Bartimaeus? Actually yes, he’s cool, sarcastic, sexy…”    “I was talking about Nathaniel.”
·      “But she was right, Nathaniel is really irritating, annoying, a pain in the backside, and I was the same when I was twelve”
·      The main theme of the entire Trilogy was Nathaniel’s change, that made him fit to be Ptolemy’s heir
·      His first idea for the Ring of Solomon was a collection of short stories regarding Bartimaeus’ past, but it was becoming too complex to manage. There should have been a bit on whatever the heck he was hinting at in the footnotes regarding Nefertiti, and “Who knows, maybe one day I’ll write it”
·      I asked him this while he was signing my book. He was slightly unsettled by how detailed the question was, I fear, but I already told him I read the entire Sequence multiple times, so the damage was done and there was no going back. Also, the question was from @fauna96 so it’s not my fault the things I do for my friends really
But yeah, he’s been incredibly funny and polite through the entire panel. While he was signing the books he took time to chat with everyone, not only asking if we liked the books, but also if we’re studying, and what, and so on. He was really kind and put everyone at ease, and after two days I’m still trying to get down from the serotonin high being there gave me.
Also, he doodles on the books he signs.
Every single one.

No Man Walks Alone is a superb, curated online menswear shop that carries interesting, well-considered products. They've carried Eidossince the second season, having offered an exclusive house cut since SS15 defined by wide lapels and sweeping, open quarters. But, they've carried other well regarded brands as well, like Drake's, Rota (an Italian brand specializing in high-quality trousers), Valstar(who makes incredible suede bomber I want so badly, the Valstarino) and even handmade tailoring from highly regarded bespoke tailoring house Sartoria Formosa.
They've launched their winter sale with deeper discounts than I've ever seen them offer online before (they'd do clearance events in the past with discounts more than 40% off, but only in their New York showroom). Beautiful Contemporary Handmade Paintings For Sale
A lovely work of art on the walls always makes any place look even more beautiful. Works of art improve the air of the house and who doesn't cherish some great workmanship!! Handmade oil painting is something that is very popular these days.
In the event that you like contemporary workmanship, at that point, you will cherish Abraham Dayan. He is an awesome canvas oil painting artist, who makes art that goes past the cubist vision of Picasso. He recounts to an account of mankind through his geometric engineering. He reclassifies the Cartesian pivot in his work. Each painting recounts a story through perfect bisectors and well-characterized structures.
Abraham Dayan is a Paris conceived craftsman, who simply has a flair for painting from the beginning, with no aesthetic foundation. He wished to be a stylist and also made an extremely effective and fashionable watch brand named 'Epilog' when he was only 18 years of age. But after some point, he quit any pretense of everything and devoted himself totally to painting. He is a self-prepared contemporary painter.
Tumblr media
Abraham Dayan has additionally taken part in different artwork competitions and visits, for example, Zurich International Art, Art Philadelphia Art Festival of Jazz, and so on. After a point began partaking in different workmanship exhibitions, for example, Agora Gallery in New York, Biennial of Mantova, and so on.
Every one of his artworks passes on a new creation, feeling and world magnificence with different hues to cause individuals to get love. His numerous custom canvas painting has appeared in numerous exhibitions and he also puts his contemporary abstract art for sale.Get more details please visit us at http://abrahamdayan.net/

La Scarpa Buona - ASTORFLEX
Italy is a country of incredible contradictions and complexity. But not many will challenge the notion that it is one of the most stylish of places. Often it is accused of being more style than substance and that is sometimes a fair accusation.
One of the main guiding principles of Italian life is the notion of “fare una bella figura”, which has a number of interpretations in English. As a general guide it means ‘to make a good impression”, “put your best foot forward”, “make a good showing “. Basically it’s all about looking the best you can, making the best of what you have and presenting yourself well.
So with that in mind it is my great pleasure to celebrate the fine Italian footwear brand Astorflex, who have combined style and substance beautifully since the early 19th Century.
The current owner of the company is Fabio Travenzoli. His Grandfather Alfredo invented the company name and along with his Brother Bettino they had inherited the business from their Father Danielle and their Grandfather Ferdinando. This is the epitome of a small family run business.Only the good one’s survive, and this is definitely a good one. The products speak for themselves.
The firm was one of many shoemaking businesses established in Castel D’Ario (Mantova) where there were numerous artisanal footwear makers, producing beautiful handmade shoes. After the end of World War 1 with greater emphasis on industrial production, the small Fratelli Travenzolli concern started to produce different types of footwear using outer stitching along the edge of the sole.
The company have continued the traditions of the business set up all that time ago. They combine style, comfort, practicality and tradition. The flexibility and comfort that they offer the wearer are second to none. For Summer, they are one of the essential items of any wardrobe.
Only Italian leather is used on the uppers and in fact it is only leather from master tanneries in Tuscany. The linings and insoles are vegetable tanned calf leather, obtained by soaking the leather in a mixture of water and powdered oak bark and mimosa. It excludes the use of dyes or colour finishes so it makes the leather healthier, hypoallergenic and guarantees better sweat absorption.
Astorflex is one-off those rare brands that combines style and substance. It allows the wearer great comfort, flexibility, durability and that sense of style that only Italy can provide.
Fare una bella figura ! I should say so, after all Astorflex are “La Scarpa Buona”
They are available at all good Gents outfitters of which John Simons in Marylebone and Burrows and Hare in Oxford are my personal favourites.
Bravo Astorflex ! Viva Italia !
