Katsuki wanders the city aimlessly, unable to sleep as he already tried. He tossed and turned for hours thinking of things he should have left buried.

Things he set in motion by hitting send all that time ago.

Explosions skitter over his skin, they die as quickly as he breathed life into them. Small little things that barely make a sound.

Something similar to what he had with you. He silently damns himself as he makes his way back up through the open staircase, leisurely climbing the steps as he thinks, wonders if you're alright. His phone pings in his pocket and he wonders who it could be at such a late hour.

Probably that idiot Kirishima lost his key card, like he's fucking done before in his drunken escapades. But when scarlet eyes rove over a locked screen it reads something completely different.

It reads of a head line about the number one female hero. Katsuki unlocks his phone in a hurry as he fishes blindly for his key in his other pocket. Eyes glued to blue illuminating screen as the door beeps, shining green in the night as he pushes into the darkened room.

That is to hear a scream when Katsuki flicks the light on. He readies an explosion in his hand until he sees two bodies intertwined on Eijirou's bed.

"You fucking idot!" Katsuki explodes anyway. Almost setting off the sprinkler system in the hotel room.

"I...I.." Kiri stutters as Mina tries to sink under the sheets.

"You what? Spit it out!" Katsu says turning his eyes back to the article.

*'NUMBER ONE FEMALE HERO KNOWS HOW TO PARTY.'*

Kirishima proceeds to give some lame ass excuse that falls on deaf ears as crimson eyes scroll through the article posted at 1AM.

He spies a photo of you dancing, downing shots, and his screen almost shatters when his thumb hovers the last picture.

You recieving a kiss on the cheek from some fucking creep that has his grimy ass hands on your hips.

Hips that should still belong to Katsuki.

"Where the hell is Y/N?!" He shouts, interrupting the story, "You just left her down there? With those fucking assholes Mina?"

"I...she said she didn't want to...."

"I don't give a fuck what she said she did or didn't want to do. She's clearly drunk as fuck and you LEFT her." Katsuki wants to ring Mina's neck but his hands find better work of rummaging through her purse for her key card to their room.

"Bakugou, if I tried to drag her away. You know she would have caused a scene." Mina all but squeaks. His grip threatens to crush the doorknob to the hallway to dust as he speaks.

"Then you drag her bratty ass away anyway. Better than the possibility of her getting drugged and date raped."

Worry grips Katuski hard enough that he jumps from the fifth floor straight to the hard pavement in his black skull tshirt and black cargo shorts. He practically sprints to the bar a few buildings down that is bumping with music.

He pushes through the crowd angrily as women begin to squeal when they recognize him. His heart pounds when he cannot spot you but the guy in the pictures smiling ear to ear. He shoves past the glomping girls in such a rush that some fall on their ass, tears fueled by too much alchohol and hurt pride.

"Yea then Dark Star just kisses me on the lips. Tongue and everything. God I can't wait to fu.." But he stops short when he sees a death glare in the reflection of the bar mirror staring back at him despite the glass bottles filled with tempting liquid.

"You can't wait to do what?" He growls darkly turning the man to face him, "Please continue. I'd love to hear what you think you're going to do."

The man smirks, suddenly filled with liquid courage.

"I said I cannot wait to *fuck* Dark Star. She's clearly an easy slut."

Bakugou does not try to hold his temper back like his PR and agent director suggested.

No Bakugou rears his fist back so fast that it takes the asshole four solid seconds to realize that he's missing majority of his front teeth.

Hell four solid seconds before he slumps to the floor, blood oozing past his lips. Katsuki turns to his friend, a malice laced smirk plastered on his face as he lets explosions go freely in his open palm.

"Now where did you see Y/N go?" The guys eyes widen with fear and he audibly gulps.

"She...ahhh..she left. Went back to her hotel I think..." Katsuki slams him against the bar top.

"You think or you fucking know?!" He yells. Slamming him again so he won't blast one of his limbs off.

"S..sir. I'll have to call the police if you act any further." The bar tender is sheepish, although he is three times as big as Katsuki. There is just something about that Bakugou rage that can make any man quiver.

A hiss leaves the hot head's lips as he squeezes the guys throat a final time. Turning without saying a word as the whole bar stares at his receding built back.

He climbs the open stairwell steps two at a time, rushing up them only to stand before your door hesitant.

A breeze whips his shirt, bringing with it salted sea air that clings to his skin, his hair.

Air that you've said you loved the smell of during a quiet movie night you two shared.

He sighs, pressing the key to the door, it beeps, flashing green and Katsuki grips the handle a second before it locks again.

"Y/N?" He calls softly into the darkness, wondering if his eyes are playing tricks on him and if the quiet night is much deeper in the poorly decorated four walls than it normally is.

When there is no answer he creeps into the room, flicking on the light to small hall before the bathroom to see neatly made beds and clothes strown all over the cheap furniture. He growls in frustration, wondering where you could be when he spies your obnoxiously large handwriting that seems slurred even in ink.

*"Came back didn't see you went back out. Not bar, beach or pool maybe."*

Katsuki sighs with slight relief. He thinks of going back to his room, at least you're on hotel grounds but he thinks better of it.

Not only is Kirishima balls deep in Mina, a sight he really doesnt want to experience, again, his mind wanders to thoughts of you being too drunk to swim or worse too drunk for another asshole to take advantage of you.

He jumps from the sixth floor, landing harshly in his combat boots. He makes his way to the pool first and he is thankful he picked right. He sees a heavy darkness looming like a black fog over the pool.

So inky black one can barely see the gate and he knows no light will cut through that depth you've emitted. He pulls the lock of the gate up and only takes one step in unsure of where the body of water starts and the cement deck ends.

"Y/N?" He calls out, voice barely cutting through the vast darkness.

"Ah Katsuki-kun!" You use your sweetest voice pulling all of the night back to you. Water splashes as you go from floating to standing chest deep in clear water, the small pool lights begin to shine again, no longer oppressed.

Katsuki notices that you're clad in nothing but a lacey black bra and a matching black thong. He swallows.

"What are you doing?" His voice is rough and you laugh.

"Enjoying the moonlight!" Voice never wavering in confidence or joy. You splash next to you as if tapping a seat, "Come in!"

Another breeze wafts in sweet salty air, cooling the pool deck

"You've got to be fucking joking." He half snaps. Staring down at you in your underwear.

"I'm not fucking joking, King. Now get undressed and get in the fucking water!" The sharpness in your voice pierces his heart. Espeically you using the dom name you gave him since you were not a fan of calling him Daddy. You're drunk, he reminds himself as he unties his combat boots with a growl. Biting his lip to keep from "correcting" your bratty tone. He'd never admit it out loud but if you weren't such a brat it would be no fun to make you submit to him. He pulls off his cargo shorts and his deadly hand grabs onto the collar behind his head, yanking his shirt from his body in one swift motion.

You sigh with delight audibly, eyes hungrily raking over what was once yours.

Well yours behind closed doors. You remind yourself as you lie back floating, sstaring at the sky and satisfied with a splash of water signaling Katsuki's entrance.

Long moments stretch between you two in silence as you both stare into the sky, fingers floating into the other but neither grasp on.

"Do you know why I like the stars so much Suki?" You break the silence, voice so solemn and sad. You tread water just enough for your shoulders to still be underwater, Katuski follows suit but does not speak.

He isn't sure why you love the stars so much. He just knows that you do. He knows that the comet is coming in about twenty minutes. He looked it up, not knowing you were going on this trip.

He was going to watch it for you. You hold eye contact with him, deep brooding scarlet eyes bore into you, waiting patiently for your answer.

"Because even when space is so cold, so dark....so unfuckingfeeling...they shine anyway Suk. They burn brightly and for millions of fucking years in the darkest place in all of existence. It gives me...hope." You sigh shakily, dimming the lights around you so he cannot see your tears.

But he knows what you're doing. He knows your tactics but gives you space.

"Hope that my quirk won't scare people off, that someone will persevere despite my darkness. That I'll persevere despite it." You stop speaking just before your voice breaks. You swallow, the world swimming for a moment as you collect yourself.

You ebb closer to Katsuki, staring at his lips. Lips that had always commanded you, climaxed you, comforted you in your weakest moments.

He makes you weak now as you are a breath away from pressing your lips to his. He is hesitant to pull back, still sure you are dating that inconsiderate asshole.

He knows that he's better for you but he knows not to take advantage of your drunken state. As you lean closer he places his finger to your lip, cannot help himself as he pulls your bottom lip some.

"Kitten, we are going to miss the comet if we kiss." He says before scooping you up princess style. Grabbing both of your phones as he heads for the beach.

The sand is soft and cool beneath his feet, another breeze that brings mist and a bright moon that makes the sand shine.

He finds a good spot near the water but not close enough that it could kiss your toes. He settles you in his lap and leans back on his arms so he can create an incline for you.

He was right, had you two kissed it would have left you no time to see this gorgeous celestial body cut through the sky like a shining knife.

You sigh leaning into him, when the comet has gone you take the time to point out the constellations to him.

He doesn't remind you that you've showed him thousands of times and he would quietly listen a million times more.

"Oh that one is Taurus!" You point and he follows your delicate figures.

"That one is mine right?" His voice rumbles in his chest and you can feel it in his back. You blush.

"I forgot I've told you about them. I'm so.."

"Don't you dare fucking apologize to me about something you love enough to share with others." It comes out as a snarling growl and you turn to face him.

How could you forget that he always listened? How could you let all of this slip through your fingers.

He was only being kind now because you were drunk. Just like he was only being kind during that year cause you two were fucking.

And you asked, you asked for cuddling after the first time and he gave them ever since.

Tears drip freely from your cheeks as you lean forward. He stops you again with a solemn sigh.

"What about Todoroki?" He hisses, but somehow you know he isn't angry at you.

"Ah. We broke up." You say so quietly.

"But I thought..."

"Yea I did too. I thought our sex was nothing more than sex to you in those last few months. I sighed everytime I saw his Instagram because I wasn't sure what I wanted you and I to be." You scream continuing, "I told myself that it was the sex and your dominance that made me want to stay and that I wasn't anything but a good time to you. When you sent that picture with the line I sent you I thought I knew. I tried to cover myself I felt raw and vulnerable suddenly. I...I almost talked myself out of it when I stood in front of your door. I almost told you until I saw you deleting all of my photos, our selfies. I knew you didn't love me then."

Even fatter tears fall from your cheeks.

"I'm sorry I've been so much trouble Kat..Bakugou." You go to stand but he yanks you back down, knees hitting sand hard. He is huffing as he collects himself,explosions erupt from his back.

He fishes for his phone with his free hand and pull up the photo.

The photo of the two of you, young, stupid and both too prideful to admit what you felt for each other. You cry for a different reason as he speaks.

"I never said I didn't love you kitten." He growls in your ear, "I just never said aloud that I did."

He devours your lips then, pulling you to him kissing you deeply tongues touching.

He pulls away panting heavily.

"I love you. And don't you ever fucking forget it." He growls before kissing you again, tempted to take you then and there on that beach with no one to see but the moon.

Support for authoritarian ideas in America is closely tied to the countrys long-running racial conflicts.

This chart, from a September 2020 paper by Vanderbilt professor Larry Bartels, shows a statistical analysis of a survey of Republican voters, analyzing the link between respondents score on a measure of ethnic antagonism and their support for four anti-democratic statements .

The graphic shows a clear finding: The higher a voter scores on the ethnic antagonism scale, the more likely they are tosupport anti-democratic ideas. This held true even when Bartels used regression analyses to compare racial attitudes to other predictors, like support for Trump. The strongest predictor by far of these antidemocratic attitudes is ethnic antagonism, he writes.

The picture she paints of the typical Democratic voter being an immigrant, who goes along with their party or simply hates Trump will seem like a strange caricature to most Democratic voters. But her answer seems to lack the animus of many.

Democrats struggled just as much as Republicans. A 33-year-old woman from California told said, i really am going to have a hard time doing this but then offered that Republicans are morally right as in values, going to protect us from terrorest and immigrants, going to create jobs.

Reality Check 3: The Democrats Legislative Fix Will Never Happenand Doesnt Even Touch The Real Threats

Its understandable why Democrats have ascribed a life-or-death quality to S. 1, the For the People bill that would impose a wide range of requirements on state voting procedures. The dozensor hundredsof provisions enacted by Republican state legislatures and governors represent a determination to ensure that the GOP thumb will be on the scale at every step of the voting process. The proposed law would roll that back on a national level by imposing a raft of requirements on statesno excuse absentee voting, more days and hours to votebut would also include public financing of campaigns, independent redistricting commissions and compulsory release of presidential candidates’ tax returns.

There are all sorts of Constitutional questions posed by these ideas. But theres a more fundamental issue here: The Constitutional clause on which the Democrats are relyingArticle I, Section 4, Clause 1gives Congress significant power over Congressional elections, but none over elections for state offices or the choosing of Presidential electors.

Vaccine Advocacy From Hannity And Mcconnell Gets The Media Off Republicans’ Backs But Won’t Shift Public Sentiment

Amid a rising media furor over the steady stream of vaccine disparagement from GOP politicians and Fox News talking heads, a number of prominent Republicans spoke up in favor of vaccines early this week.

On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters, “shots need to get in everybody’s arm as rapidly as possible” and asked that people “ignore all of these other voices that are giving demonstrably bad advice.” House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, got the vaccine after months of delay and then publicly said, “there shouldn’t be any hesitancy over whether or not it’s safe and effective.” And Fox News host Sean Hannity, in a widely shared video, declared, it “absolutely makes sense for many Americans to get vaccinated.” This was treated in the press as an unequivocal endorsement, even though the use of the word “many” was clearly meant to let the Fox News viewers feel like he’s talking about other people getting vaccinated.

Is this an exciting pivot among the GOP elites? Are they abandoning the sociopathic strategy of sabotaging President Joe Biden’s anti-pandemic plan by encouraging their own followers to get sick? Are the millions of Republicans who keep telling pollsters they will never get that Democrat shot going to change their minds now?

Jeffersonian democracy was not a one-man operation. It was a large political party with many local and state leaders and various factions, and they did not always agree with Jefferson or with each other.

Jefferson was accused of inconsistencies by his opponents. The “Old Republicans” said that he abandoned the Principles of 1798. He believed the national security concerns were so urgent that it was necessary to purchase Louisiana without waiting for a Constitutional amendment. He enlarged federal power through the intrusively-enforced . He idealized the “yeoman farmer” despite being himself a gentleman plantation owner. The disparities between Jefferson’s philosophy and practice have been noted by numerous historians. Staaloff proposed that it was due to his being a proto-; claimed that it was a manifestation of pure hypocrisy, or “pliability of principle”; and Bailyn asserts it simply represented a contradiction with Jefferson, that he was “simultaneously a radical utopian idealist and a hardheaded, adroit, at times cunning politician”. However, Jenkinson argued that Jefferson’s personal failings ought not to influence present day thinkers to disregard Jeffersonian ideals.

, a European nobleman who opposed democracy, argues that “Jeffersonian democracy” is a misnomer because Jefferson was not a democrat, but in fact believed in rule by an elite: “Jefferson actually was an Agrarian Romantic who dreamt of a republic governed by an elite of character and intellect”.

Reality Check #4: The Electoral College And The Senate Are Profoundly Undemocraticand Were Stuck With Them

Because the Constitution set up a state-by-state system for picking presidents, the massive Democratic majorities we now see in California and New York often mislead us about the partys national electoral prospects. In 2016, Hillary Clintons 3-million-vote plurality came entirely from California. In 2020, Bidens 7-million-vote edge came entirely from California and New York. These are largely what election experts call wasted votesDemocratic votes that dont, ultimately, help the Democrat to win. That imbalance explains why Trump won the Electoral College in 2016 and came within a handful of votes in three states from doing the same last November, despite his decisive popular-vote losses.

The response from aggrieved Democrats? Abolish the Electoral College! In practice, theyd need to get two-thirds of the House and Senate, and three-fourths of the state legislatures, to ditch the process that gives Republicans their only plausible chance these days to win the White House. Shortly after the 2016 election, Gallup found that Republican support for abolishing the electoral college had dropped to 19 percent. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a state-by-state scheme to effectively abolish the Electoral College without changing the Constitution, hasnt seen support from a single red or purple state.

History Of The Democratic And Republican Parties

The Democratic Party traces its origins to the anti-federalist factions around the time of Americas independence from British rule. These factions were organized into the Democrat Republican party by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other influential opponents of the Federalists in 1792.

The Republican party is the younger of the two parties. Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party rose to prominence with the election of Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president. The party presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction and was harried by internal factions and scandals towards the end of the 19th century.

Since the division of the Republican Party in the election of 1912, the Democratic party has consistently positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party in economic as well as social matters. The economically left-leaning activist philosophy of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which has strongly influenced American liberalism, has shaped much of the party’s economic agenda since 1932. Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition usually controlled the national government until 1964.

The Republican Party today supports a pro-business platform, with foundations in economic libertarianism, and fiscal and social conservatism.

Adams And The Revolution Of 1800

Shortly after Adams took office, he dispatched a group of envoys to seek peaceful relations with France, which had begun attacking American shipping after the ratification of the Jay Treaty. The failure of talks, and the French demand for bribes in what became known as the XYZ Affair, outraged the American public and led to the Quasi-War, an undeclared naval war between France and the United States. The Federalist-controlled Congress passed measures to expand the army and navy and also pushed through the Alien and Sedition Acts. The Alien and Sedition Acts restricted speech that was critical of the government, while also implementing stricter naturalization requirements. Numerous journalists and other individuals aligned with the Democratic-Republicans were prosecuted under the Sedition Act, sparking a backlash against the Federalists. Meanwhile, Jefferson and Madison drafted the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, which held that state legislatures could determine the constitutionality of federal laws.

The pandemic has added another layer of complexity with the new emphasis it has put on voting by mail. President Trump says he opposes expanding voting by mail, and his allies, including White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, call the process rife with opportunities for fraud.

Even so, Trump and McEnany both voted by mail this year in Florida, and Republican officials across the country have encouraged voting by mail.

Democrats, who have made election security and voting access a big part of their political brand for several years, argue that the pandemic might discourage people from going to old-fashioned polling sites.

Was The Donkey Originally A Jackass

Thomas Nast was an American cartoonist who joined the staff of Harpers Weekly in 1862. Nasts cartoons were very popular and his depiction of Santa Claus is still the most widely used version of the holiday icon we see today. During his career, Nast also drew many political cartoons that harshly criticized the policies of both parties.

Nast first used a donkey to represent the Democratic party as a whole in the 1870 cartoon A Live Jack-Ass Kicking a Lion in which Nast criticized the dominantly Democratic Southern newspaper industry as the Copperhead Press. While he did popularize the donkey, Nast wasnt the first person to use it in reference to the Democrats.

Over 40 years earlier during the presidential campaign of 1828, opponents of Democrat Andrew Jackson referred to him as a jackass. Jackson actually embraced the insult and used donkeys on several campaign posters. Nevertheless, cartoonist Anthony Imbert would use a Jackson-headed donkey to mock Jackson an 1833 political cartoon.

However, the donkey never really caught on after the end of Jacksons presidency, and Thomas Nast apparently had no knowledge that it ever was used to represent the Democrats.

In the presidential campaign of 1796, Jefferson lost the electoral college vote to Federalist John Adams by 7168 and was thus elected vice president. He allowed the Senate to freely conduct debates and confined his participation to procedural issues, which he called an “honorable and easy” role. Jefferson had previously studied parliamentary law and procedure for 40 years, making him unusually well qualified to serve as presiding officer. In 1800, he published his assembled notes on Senate procedure as . Jefferson would cast only three in the Senate.

During the Adams presidency, the Federalists rebuilt the military, levied new taxes, and enacted the . Jefferson believed that these laws were intended to suppress Democratic-Republicans, rather than prosecute enemy aliens, and considered them unconstitutional. To rally opposition, he and James Madison anonymously wrote the , declaring that the federal government had no right to exercise powers not specifically delegated to it by the states. note: i miss sasusaku everyday of my life

when sasuke returns from his voyage of redemption, sakura is nothing like he thought she’d be. she is distant and evasive. she seems jittery, he feels, perhaps because it has been five years since she hasn’t chased him. but he is optimistic, as much as he was ambitious, and sakura is his endgame.

when he finally asks naruto how sakura has been, after much deliberation, and because he could not ask sakura due to the strange nature of their communications, naruto replies: “she’s just not used to having you here like this.”

and he doesn’t understand, because hadn’t she greeted him with the same twelve year old enthusiasm when he left five years ago? wasn’t she blushing when he turned his back on her for the second time in their lives? he remembers leaving with his heart throbbing in his chest, vowing to organize himself until he could, with accuracy, return to konoha and ask sakura to–

somewhere in an unknown country, between the borders of this and that, sasuke had realized that he wanted to hear sakura’s voice. not only her voice, but touch her skin. he remembers her voice in the forest of death, on the night he left, and at the end of the war: they are delicate cries, and they pierce his heart. the hand that held his as he went through the worst pains of his life and the certainty of her presence had cemented him unconsciously to this particular path.

all this time he had thought she would follow in this path with him. he knows he never told her, that she does not know from his mouth that they would be together, but sakura has always understood him better than anybody else.

“sakura,” he calls as she walks home one night. his voice is not as rich; thinner than usual. it shakes.

she smiles at him, but it is not the same, it is not as bright. it shakes too.

sasuke thinks, this relationship is unstable. the instability was caused by me. and it is also up to me to fix it. but i dont know how, because sakura has always fixed everything with her optimism, but now it seems i am the only one with optimism. it makes sense, because i left her for five years and its been six months since i returned and she doesnt know that i cannot sleep because of her.

the resolution of their relationship becomes more urgent the more sasuke waits. yet the less he does. the less he knows what to do. he knows it is not hopeless, but it hangs in the back of his mind like the other phantoms that’s hung over his life.

he thinks, i just want to hear her voice. i dont want to hear her cry, because that’s all i have in my head, i just want her to tell me she loves me.

so he says, in his firmest tone, “i love you,” and he knows it is surprising but he cant stand it anymore so he takes her hand in his so that he could finally feel her touch, “i love you with all my heart and i want to make you happy.”

and he wants to repeat to her the same speech she gave him, the one he has burned in his brain and the one he replays when he feels as if the world has been unfair to him. it has not been, he is reminded, because it gave him haruno sakura.

there is silence, and he almost dies because he doesn’t think he can handle any more silence, but her fingers gently wrap around his hand, and she says: “thank you.”

like that, the balance in their relationship is restored, and the tension eases from his shoulders. she leans into his arms, without anymore hesitation, and she starts to cry. this is different, he thinks, she is not crying because i am leaving, but because i am staying.

Aftermath (wip)

//This is gonna be a long one (because im like halfway through writing it i think? If even that?), and i was gonna hold off and keep it as a total surprise, but my brain literally wont shut off unless i share every last fucking writing apparently, so take this as it is, and ill post the completed and edited one later today probably, with a real summary :P

TWs: character death, grieving, mourning, suicidal thoughts, mentions of Lucky and Cam (disappearing), survivor’s guilt, general guilt. So much guilt.

Renee couldn't handle sleeping in the same room Sam had been in not 4 days ago. She had spent a lot of time with Eli and Sofia and Kat, trying to ignore the emptiness in her head. Sam was the more dominant of the two of them, and now with her gone, Ren didnt know what to do with herself; for being the more confident of the two, she didnt have the will to do much of anything.

By the fourth day though, she figured she couldnt sit and cry on Sofia's couch, finally dragging her ass back to her own cabin. She slowly looked around, remembering every blanket fort and hug that Sam had made and shared, every movie they had watched, and every bowl of popcorn she had eaten. The room felt.. empty now. Grey and dull and lifeless. Or maybe it was Ren feeling that way..? She couldn't tell the difference anymore.

She slowly idled around the room, eventually ending up in her room. She picked up Sam's teddy bear, her favorite that had gotten her through so many bad days. Ren hugged it tight, feeling almost as if she was hugging Sam. She found herself crying again, her knees giving out as a sob broke through her pursed lips. She clutched the bear -- Peter? -- to her chest, biting his ear to muffle herself.

She didnt know when exactly she had fallen asleep, but Ren found herself opening her eyes groggily, pushing herself up from the floor. As she stood, she saw the bag Sam had brought with them originally sitting next to the wardrobe, almost completely empty, save a sketchbook and a small fox plushie with a ribbon and a handmade tag that read "Auburn". Reading Sam's handwriting caused her to tear up further, so she set aside the small fox and grabbed the sketchbook.

She flipped through, seeing so many sketches, through various states of completion, the last two causing her breath to catch. On the left of the page was a half finished sketch of Sam holding her hand up to a mirror, her reflection clearly being Renee, smiling back so happily. She lifted a hand to her mouth, trying to hold back a dry sob, lowering her fingertips to the page after a moment. The right page was a half finished Renee in a dress, holding a blue rose, with a roughly-sketched Genesis in a beautiful black dress, almost holding Ren's hand. Across the top in Sam's best cursive was the phrase "For Good."

Ren found herself tearing up once again, the song immediately playing in her head. She couldnt remember all of the words, but the parts she could hear were distinctly in Sam's voice, "So now its up to you, for both of us.. i know im who i am today, because i knew you.. i do believe i have been changed for the better, and because i knew you, i have been changed for good..." Ren sobbed as the words repeated and replayed, what she thought Gen sounding like filling in some of the other half, "just to clear the air, i ask forgiveness, for the things ive done you blame me for.. whatever way our stories end, i know you have rewritten mine, by being my friend..."

She couldn’t hold back the tears, quickly setting the book aside so she didnt fuck with the pages further, bringing her hands up to her face so she didnt have to see anything but the darkness.

Finally, Ren had packed up her bag fully. She didnt know where she was going, but she knew she couldnt stay in the cabin anymore; there were so many memories everywhere here, and she couldnt stop replaying all of them. She left Auburn and Peter on the bed, with a short note saying that Eli and Jackie could have them respectively, before leaving out the front door. She considered just walking off the property until she collapsed somewhere, but decided that was a horrible train of thought that she didnt wanna follow, so instead she headed towards the road, caught between borrowing someone else's car and calling a ride.

She glanced up at the main house, briefly remembering the conversation about getting an apartment that Sam--.. that she was supposed to have with Ceph. She debated that too; it wasnt that she didnt want help, it was more that she didnt know if she could face an entire house of memories and people that might try to comfort or stop her, and she hadnt actually mentioned leaving to anyone. The fact that she left without Kat noticing was a miracle, and she couldnt handle explaining herself to anybody -- not when she was still explaining to herself.

"Renren..?" A quiet voice called behind her, causing Ren to tense up. She wanted to pretend she didnt hear him, wished she had made up her mind, wished she could disappear without hurting anybody, but.. She turned around to face Eli, not actually meeting his eyes. She doesnt speak, she hadnt since--..

Eli stepped closer, his hand coming into Ren's view. He reaches for her hand, her shoulder, before pulling away entirely. She wanted to hug him, but couldnt bring herself to move. She should explain, but she still didnt know why she was even gonna leave, and now he was going to blame himself no matter which she picks, and-

"Ren? Eli?" Another voice comes from the direction of the house, louder and more concerned than Eli's had been. Ren notices Eli turn to Jinx, sees Jinx's feet enter her field of view, can practically feel his worry rolling off of him. He had so much worry for someone so young.. "You two okay-?" Jinx sounded almost like he wanted to say more, but decided against it.

Ren nodded to his question, glancing down at the bag that was still clutched in her too-tight grip. This was a mistake. She shouldnt-- she couldnt leave all of this behind. This was.. well, she was happy here. Everyone she cared about was here, well.. almost everyone..

She lifts a shaky hand to run through her hair, habitually sticking her thumbnail in her mouth and gnawing at it afterwards.

"'m fine, but Renren..." Eli trailed off, and Ren felt a pang hit her chest; the first emotion to break her numbness, and it was guilt, how fitting.. These two shouldnt have to walk on eggshells, its not like she was a ticking time bomb..

But as she looked down at her white knuckles, as she chewed her nail down to the pink, as she remembered the voice telling her to join Sam and Cam and Lucky, she wasnt so sure of that anymore.

"Renren, stop," Eli pulled her hand from her mouth, and only then did she notice she had bitten down hard enough to draw blood. Her eyes followed Eli's hand back up to his face, tracing over every worried and distressed and upset mark, and she wished for nothing more than to hold him until they all faded.

Logically, she knew it wouldnt work like that, but she couldnt help but drop her bag and pull him into a hug anyway. It was the first one she had initiated and the first she had reciprocated, and that realization made her heart pang again. Eli was suffering and mourning just as much, and now it was like he lost both sisters.. She squeezed him a little, resting a hand on the back of his head.

Eli hugged her back quickly, his arms around her waist. She could feel the fabric of her shirt becoming damp near his face, but she didnt mind. It was just a shirt, and he was so much more important. She gently brushed through his hair with one hand, the other releasing him and holding a welcoming hand out to Jinx.

He stepped closer, his body tense, but he joined the hug anyway, one hand resting on Eli's shoulder and the other on Ren's back. She rested her hand on his back, just below his shoulder so he could easily duck out when he got uncomfortable.

Her legs were shaking by the time they all finally parted, Eli softly sniffling and Jinx looking a little awkward. Ren rubbed her arm, her hand feeling oddly empty without the bag, her arms feeling oddly empty without them, but her heart feeling a little more full. She pointed up to the house, waiting for both boys to acknowledge the gesture before she picked up her bag and stepped forward, wanting one of them to lead the way. In truth, she didnt want to be alone, and didnt know how to confidently lead anymore, even if it was just inside a big fucking house. She didnt know how to hold herself anymore, and her legs felt like weak cement, both too unstable but too heavy to move.

Eli grabbed Ren's hand, wrapping it round his shoulders, Jinx coming around to take her bag, and the three slowly made their way inside. They were so patient and understanding, and they were so strong.. they shouldnt have to be strong, and another guilty pang flashed through Ren's chest.
