He went out with a bang.

More detailed headcannons under the cut because I know this is confusing for literally everybody but me.

Sometime, late into the apocalypse, the base the resistance had been using gets completely over-run.

I’m talking half the Krang army over-run.

Retreat is called, and everybody’s evacuating and they really aren’t going to make it very long.

Even the people getting out are going to be run down and slaughtered if something doesn’t change quickly.

That’s when the great granddaddy of all ‘just in case’ scenarios comes in.

Through a series of slight overthinking spirals, Donnie has a plan for this and it’s about to be everybody else’s problem.

The entire base is rigged with explosives. The kill switch is in his lab.

Everybody’s evacuating. By the time he gets there, everybody (alive) on their side should be out, while a large portion of Krang monsters will still be inside.

He meets Casey Sr. halfway there (the only reason she’s evacuating is because she has Casey Jr. with her and she just can’t make herself put him at risk like that) and foots off some important items to her (mask, a few pieces of technology, etc.)

And then he tells her get the survivors together, and get them as far away as possible.

She really doesn’t want to listen to him (she knows what a goodbye looks like) but again. Casey Jr. And everybody’s going to die if she doesn’t get moving, so she does in the end.

Anyway that’s where the comic above starts.

Kill switch is activated, entire base blows up.

Donnie doesn’t make it out.

During ALL of this, Leo, Mikey, and April are on a scouting mission.

Everybody in the resistance has their own little distress signals, and all of them are flaring so these guys just KNOW something went really wrong.

They’re packing up to go home when… yeah.

With the central hub of all their devices being destroyed, all at once, every single distress call goes silent. Nobody can communicate either. It’s just radio silence.

As soon as the Tech Bō lands, Leo starts running.

The trip out took 3 days. They make it home in a day and a half.

They come back to a crater.

Luckily, about half of the resistance is still alive. And half of the Krang army is not.

So it’s technically a victory.

(Nobody feels like it’s a victory)

Anyway. After that, they never really have a full base again. It’s more of nomadic situation- they live where they can, when they can, and never for too long.

There’s some other stuff but this is getting long and I might make some more doodles.

Hear me out.

I 1000% agree that non-godhood, orb-free, romanced professor Gale is the best ending. He and Tav are SO happy and in love, Tara approves, Gale’s mom isn’t sad, it’s nothing but good things and I absolutely adore it and it will have a place in my heart forever.

I also agree that in the Godhood ending, while Gale retains aspects of his former self, he has changed. His most precious human qualities have been replaced with ambition and pride. And you can’t ignore the fact that Tara is now unhappy, Gale’s mother misses her son, Elminster is distraught and feels responsible for Gale having chosen this path, and there’s the possibility of looming disaster in the future as described by Raphael.

…and yet…

…seeing how much God Gale still loves Tav—and knowing they’ll get to spend an eternity together—is pretty damn wonderful, too.

Would the sirens try and reunite cataway Mc with people and society, or are the weeks dragging on as the trio keeps her going in circles?

Sans: Would he try to reunite her with people? Short answer- no. Longer answer... he wouldn't go out of his way to reunite her with humans, or try to put her in the way of passing ships. She's floating in the middle of the ocean, the likelihood of encountering a boat is slim to none. But he's definitely thought about the unlikely scenario of her being rescued.

... He's got a lot of conflicting feelings. He's so lonely, he's so lonely, he can't lose her. When he thinks of a ship trying to save her he thinks about killing everyone on board. The thought of her hand slipping out of his forever makes his chest ache so much he can't breathe. But at the same time... she's going through what he went through, isn't she? She's separated from her old life through no fault of her own. Does he really have the right to make that separation permanent? Is it really fair of him to inflict the same terrible fate on someone else, just so he doesn't have to be alone? He doesn't know.

I think if it really came down to it, and a boat picked her up, he'd let her go. But he wouldn't say goodbye. She'd hear the people yelling, she'd wave and scream as the boat came nearer, she'd turn to him in tears to thank him for keeping her alive so long...

... Only for there to be nobody there. Completely empty water, as far as the eye can see.

Red: Ultimately, Red's intentions aren't wonderful. Sure, he's kind to her. He keeps her sane. He makes her laugh, he entertains her with stories of the ocean, and listens to her stories of the land. He sings her songs and comforts her when she cries.

... But he wants her to slowly lose all hope, on that raft.

In his mind, it's the best possible outcome for her. He himself was once a pirate, transformed into a siren hundreds of years ago, and it was the best thing that ever happened to him... he now lives a life of excitement and freedom in the beautiful wild ocean. Of course there's going to be some "growing pains", she may miss the land. And of course, he's not going to force it, he won't drown her unless she asks. But he absolutely believes that once she finally mentally cracks and lets go of the land, allowing one of them drown her, she'll be truly happy. There's a reason he laces his stories of the ocean with so much delight, food, company and abandon... he's dangling the choice in front of her while she suffers. He wants her to lose all hope of rescue, and choose the way out that's right before her.

Both Red and Sans don't want to let her go. The only difference is Red genuinely thinks that, by snatching her away from her human life, he's doing the right thing.

Skull: Nobody steals his mate. The legends of krakens sinking ships exist for a reason.

The night is his domain. Once the sun hits the horizon, he protects his darling. And until dawn breaks... no boat will get within twenty miles of her, and live to tell the tale.

Dani packed her stuff as soon as she got back from patrol. While doing it, she called Tuck and Sam to coordinate travel plan with them and to make sure she heard where and when correctly. Danny’s birthday were coming, an alien’s autograph would be a good present. Unfortunately she wouldn’t have time to get any of his merch on her way so the sky map she printed in Gotham’s Public Library would have to make it. Because of Sam’s demand she stocked herself in protein bars, other high calorie snacks and tons of drinks. Guy at the register looked disturbed but correctly guessed it wasn’t his business. Thanks for physics meets magic mess that made her backpack lighter. It worked like thermos in a way, though she didn’t even try to understand it.

This flight was going to be challenge not only to her speed but also, mostly, her stamina.

Ancients let her survive.

Turns out, phones couldn’t survive falling from over a hundred feet at around 60 miles per hour. Well she had all important numbers (Jazz, Val, Tuck, Sam non- and yes-emergency Danny) on paper phased inside her hip. From Sam’s money she could buy one in Los Angeles and explain the change of number then. She would have to come up with an excuse though.

She wasn’t going to admit she got distracted and bumped into a bunch of pigeons, got startled and dropped her phone like a silly child.

this is kinda of a continue to what i wrote yesterday. anyways. the first time aurora heard anything about it she heard the girls talking about how phantom is going to be sent back and it pretty much broke her heart.

cumulus was talking to cirrus about how sad it almost feels, about how she will almost miss the new quint.

and aurora was running.

phantom was already in his bunk, his eyes already closed, but just her hand on his shoulder got him to open his eyes, looking at her startled.

"rorry?" he whispered, his voice so soft and no matter how much she blinked them away the tears still fell. he hugged her then, and she hugged him back. so tight, holding onto him like he's the only thing that ever existed.

"they said that you're going to be sent back." she said after she calmed down, both of them now laying face to face in phantom's bunk, she plays with his hair as he kept his hands hugging her, their tails tangled together.

phantom just nodded, his eyes looking vacant and far away, like they're hidden by some kind of a fog.

"i'll miss you," he said, and breathed out a sigh, the rest of the sentence withering away on his tongue (just like they both knew he would do soon too).

"i'll miss you too." she said back, closing her eyes, "promise me that you'll say goodbye before, okay? please phantom."

"i promise" he whispered in to the space between them.

and then, after the tour ended after not seeing or hearing anything from phantom for a week, if not more, she knew deep down that he broke his promise.

no one talked about it, no one even mentioned phantom, except for the older quints that appetantly were looking for him too. she wondered if they knew that phantom's going to be sent back (but then she reminded herself that it's more than most likely that he was already sent back). maybe she should tell them? but there's no one but phantom who she wanted to talk about it to, and he's already gone.

every night and every morning she would knock on phantom's door, asking if he's there, she never got an answer.

not until she heard aether calling to omega, his voice urgent and terrified, that one morning. it was so cold out that even with her hoodie and pj pants she had her blanket around her as she stepped outside, and then she saw phantom again.

something was so incredibly wrong but no one was saying anything, and it wouldn't really matter to anyone, especially not phantom, but he was wearing a fucking tee when it was this fucking cold outside she just wrapped her blanket around him, hoping that maybe it would snap him out of his trance, maybe it'll clear the fog from his eyes. it did absolutely nothing and she could feel the tears falling down her face, drawing invisible maps on her pink skin.

she don't know what the fuck went down, the older quints and papa were the only ones allowed to stay with phantom.

but now she knows that they're angry, they wouldn't talk with anyone, and papa just looked at them all with disappointed eyes.

she doesn't think anyone even noticed her being gone, and if they did she don't care. she quietly opened phantom's door, the way everything was so clean, even phantom's own scent, felt like a punch to the gut.

she slowly shook him with a whisper of his name.

he just looked at her before making place for her, and she held him so fucking tight she herself felt like she can't breathe.

"you promised to say goodbye." aurora accused him. "i'm still here." phantom offered her a barely there smile.

when she started to cry his own tears fell as well.

she hugged him tighter.
