FFXIV Write 2023 Day 14: Clear

Well i got the prompt and this *immediately* came to me like a gut punch so uh. Here it is lol.

In which the WoL accepts Emet-Selch's offer.

It’s not at all what she expected as she stares into the vast, but still somehow homely, room. The bed is inviting, the shackles that hang from them, not so much.

There's a coldness that runs up her spine and Freyalin feels a burst of light burn up her throat. “Oh don't be so sensitive, you can ignore those,” he says. “For now anyway,” he adds after a pause.

She’s silent as she doesn't trust her voice right now. Her mind's racing and full of thoughts of guilt and grief and anger and pain. It's the right choice. This has to be the right choice. She’s too dangerous, too damaged to be around the ones she cares for. So she left in the middle of the night and found him here, taking his offer of solitude while she transforms from the inside out. Without invitation she sits at the edge of the bed and takes stock of how soft the blankets are.

She stares at him as he slunches at her. Arms crossed as they always are and face still locked in that disinterested way about him. His eyes though are what she catches, and for the first time since they've met, they've let their guard down and she can see it, see him - clear as day.

Something deep inside her bubbles, below her core and below the light making a mess of things. Her hand twitches involuntarily and she has to clench it before it reaches towards him.

He spots the movement and his eyebrows furrow deeper. He lets out a scoff and begins to move about the room, “Here is where you are to stay,” he goes into explaining, “Don't get bold and go exploring or whatever else it is you want to do. I don't want you exploding all over my home.”

Her face is set as she clenches her jaw. She's never met anyone as frustratingly confusing as him. She's only half listening as he begins to prattle on about more ‘rules’ he has for her when she finally snaps.

“What is the point of all of this, Emet-Selch,” she says. His name feels slightly wrong on her tongue. She swallows and feels the sizzle of it travel down her throat.

He pauses but says nothing.

Her chest is so hot it makes her head pound, her resolve slips as she continues, “why not just kill me now. Why go through all of this,” she gestures around the room, “I’m the monster you say I am, why not kill me before…” she hesitates, he seems to know her intentions anyway, “before I kill you.”

He laughs and it's wrong. It's bitter and it's infuriating. He walks closer to her and stands so he's directly above. He leans his head all the way down until they're inches apart. Again she sees his eyes. They're piercing into her, almost looking into her soul.

Something inside her lurches as the words out of her mouth before she stops it, “Hades.”

He lets out a choked gasp and leaps back, as if burned by her fire. His face twists into something mean, unhinged. “No,” he spits out, “you…what did you say,”

She shakes her head, “I-I don't know. It wasn’t. I didn’t-”

He walks up and grabs her wrist, digging into it with all his will. She cries out and that then makes her begin to cough. Light making its way out of her, the excess burns her hand as it falls into it.

When she comes too she notices the shackle around her wrist. For the first time panic sets in and if she's not careful she’ll throw up more light. “You can't do this,” she says. Wrist wiggling frantically against the metal.

“You no longer have a say of things. You…you monster, wretched thing,” he says. “You don't deserve to-” he cuts himself off, “you will stay here and rot like you deserve.”

His eyes shine with a rage that wasn't there at the start of this. The emotion deep down cries out and then dies, leaving a spot of cold surrounded by the acidic heat of light.

Emet-Selch turns and leaves her there, slamming the door as he does. She can no longer fight it as light pushes out of her and onto the floor. She groans as she again tries to break the chain, she lets out a yelp as the metal heats and burns her.

Defeated she moves until she's properly laying down, arm outstretched uncomfortably. There's a passing thought that she deserves this. All of it.

A coward. A monster. A naive girl who thought she could trust someone like whoever Emet-Selch was. She's paying for it now, and she will be until this poisoning overtakes her.

She thinks of Ryne of Thancred…of Minfilia. How disappointed they would be.

She thinks of Hien, who maybe always deserved better than she could give.

None of it matters now, if it ever did. She tries to drift off to sleep, with light boiling in her stomach and laughter of an old friend in her head.

Mostly you can find Austin taming bratty reader when she is tired, annoyed, or truly in an overall bratty mood.

“ You okay?.” Austin softly whispered softly above you.

All you could do was nod as your body came down from the rather intense high you’d just experienced. Today you got home with a ” little nasty attitude” that you’d unintentionally tried to exert with Austin. But he wasn’t having it, and instead after three strikes, your third being a sideways remark to him during dinner, he'd plucked you up out of your seat right then and took you to the bedroom to try and literally fuck the attitude out of you.  

“ Good.” He sent a shiver through with his touch. “ You did such a good job for me. I know we must be feeling better now, baby.”

Still you just nodded.

“ C’mon and roll over so I can take you to go pee.” He leaned down to press a kiss in his shoulder. 

Instantly at the thought of moving out of your comfortable spot, you shimmed your body away a bit. 

“ Hey.” He curiously laughed as he had never seen you do this before, “ Where do you think you’re going .” He reached out to grasp for your calf but you still managed to scooch away from his touch. 

He frowned, “ Baby, stop it. C’mere so I can take you to the bathroom.” Austin half kneeled on the bed so he could reach up for you.

“ Aus..” You whined, scrambling deeper into the bed and away from his grasp. “ No, wanna sleep. Tired.” 

“ Y/N.” Austin chided, his voice had dropped several octaves so you knew he was beginning to lose some of his patience just the way he had earlier.

Still you continued to crawl deeper into bed. 

It was quiet for a couple of seconds and you could feel the warm embrace of sleep beginning to take hold of you, until it was replaced by the smack and sting of his hand connecting with your ass. Your hand instinctively went to rub at the area but was shooed away by a bigger one.

“ Aus! T- OH!-OW!“ A shriek escaped you at the feeling of your ankle being grabbed and your body dragged down to the edge of the bed.

“ Why are you making me repeat myself? Huh? “ He turned you over. You looked to meet his eyes and they danced again with flickers of annoyance and lust in them.

“ I’m just tired.”  You whimpered.  “ No, honey I don’t think you are. Because if you were you wouldn’t have the energy to be this bratty. Did I not wear this pussy out? She still aching for Daddy's special attention, mama? ” He reached out to run a hand against your puffy and swollen folds making you jump and whine at his touch.

“ After four rounds of splitting you open and stuffing you full, you still have that little nasty attitude, huh.” He purred, grabbing both of your legs to secure them around his waist. "

“ No! Daddy I don’t! I’m jus-Ugh! “ You gasped, feeling him slide back inside of you.

He was quick to attach his hand to your neck, gently pulling just enough.

i keep forgetting to post here. i recently had a lot of progress in a project ^^ this is a PWA and we're using python django (and it's required that we should integrate an AI feature too TT) i think i'm 75% done with the front-end but overall we're probably only 15%,,, i'm gonna try finishing my part this week so i could help with other tasks!

there's only three weeks left before the deadline </3 hope it all wrks out

so 1st of all i wanna TRY to go in order & write my thoughts in a way that isn't as messy & chaotic as usual,hope i succeed(doubt,knowing myself🙄)

u already mentioned how there would be some parallels to various things that are also found in our society & it's a sensitive thing to include if u don't do it in a proper way & don't handle important subjects well in the fiction BUT up untill now you'r doing an amazing job,literally perfect!!💜💜💜

this may be what u intended to communicate through your writing or maybe just my overthinking-ass interpretations:

-the one that stands out the most is the obvious discrimination against lykos in society,as a marginalized group. & we can see how in the ff-au it is also a systemic oppression(some ppl don't hire omegas or alphas. 4 lykos it's harder to pursue studies & carreers,like yoongi. the whole crisis of homelesness,abandonment,abuse & mental health issues. the active violence against lykos that we see mentioned more than once through the presentation of yoongi's & jk's jobs..ETC)

-through jk we can see how the police wrk in a similar way to how it does irl. it's a body that thrives on bigotry,discrimination & brutality & its inneficency in solving or descalating situations that include lykos is bc it is part of the systemic oppresion & upholds the system as well & bc of this,u can't make it better by joining this system,even if u don't directly partake into the violence,u'll end up being complicit or find yourself w/ your hands tied like poor jungkook. poor boy had nothing but good intentions & wanted a way to help & change & better but now he's just stuck in the role of a helpless witness to the violence around him who can only try to do as much as he can,given the situation😭💔

-through the experience of jimin & what is narrated in the story,we can also see how fucked up & exploitative the foster care(& sheltering) system is,esp when managed by saps.

sidenote: i really appreciated the way u gave us introspection into how it may feel to be an alpha through jungkook,a beta,wondering if they always feel this worried & anxious over an omega's safety all the time. by giving them this characteristic instinct of protection & need to provide it & be sure to have provided it,it further humanises them & distance them from the common harmful stereotype of just being driven by aggressive,territorial instincts of dominance & need to overpower etc. ofc it's a thing that may be present or not,depending also on the personal believes & way of thinking of the alpha themselves. we can see it missing in the 2 alphas in the alley in ch & the ex-neighbour lone-wolf alpha in ch 2 & we see it present in all the pack's alphas(even when not being influnced by y/n scent,yoongi still had a reaction to the lack of security when he noticed that there weren't locks)

uhm...i'm sure there's way more depth & elements in your writing that i glossed over/missed/didn't catch enough & i'm srry 4 that,i have a goldfish brain😥 but what i could get made up 4 an excellent read!

I think your interpretations are spot on! The lykos could stand in for any marginalized group in different scenarios. Personally i think im working through some identities things in this fic, but thats just me. Im not trying to make it about one group in particular and there are a lot of possible interpretations!

Poor jk. He really wants to be making a difference. I'm not totally sure he wont be looking for a different career by the end of this.

The foster care/adoption thing will be a big deal and will be emphasized in the coming chapters! Both mc and jimin have been in this system. In particular there are a lot of abandoned lykos babies who end up adopted out and kept away from their culture to the point of making them ashamed of it, and for that i think there are lots of parallels to the situation of native american children in the United States.

I'm glad you liked the slightly different perspective on the alpha betas and omegas! I wanted to step a little outside of stereotypes bc i dont see why secondary gender stereotypes should be any different from our gender stereotypes. I dont think protective=possessive/agressivr and nurturing=soft/weak. I think there can be a lot more nuance than that!

This is a WWII memorial dedicated to be a tribute for all of the women in the war. It is meant to be a symbol of strength for all women who either worked tirelessly throughout the war by fighting in the front themselves, growing food, making uniforms or assembling guns for those fighting on the front or even providing hope with Vera Lynn being one of the major female music artist who's songs cheered up everyone on the most difficult days. 

I love how the women are represented throughout he coats hanging as it can be interpreted in two ways with the first one being that the coats are representing the women who put their coats up either at home or at work and work extra to do their part in the war. The coats could also be a tribute to all the women who either lost their lives in the war or later on in life and they may be gone but their coat still remains, relating to the iconic war quote, ‘Gone but not forgotten’

The font is very bold and smiler to the one used for the ration books used int he time which also points out to me that thesis another way of representing the women as it was always the women who brought and cooked the rationed food whilst the men were busy at wrk or fighting in the war.

i'm literally vibrating w/ excitement over all the things i just read & all the stuff i have to appreciate out loud now!! but i better calm my ass down,i don't wanna sound crazy or not make any sense....

also,if i'm being too much or overly excited or if i'm makin' u uncomfortable w/ asks like this,just lmk so i can tone it down & properly apologise in case😅🙏

(i've prepared a list in a rush to TRY to make a bit more sense but ... i'm not sure i'm gonna so srry if it seems like my thoughts are all over the place😣 the adhd rush isn't helping as well💀😅)

So,i kinda spoilered myself abt jin's moment of "assholery" by reading other asks/anons so i was expecting to read abt it sooner or later & .. i dunno,maybe bc i was expecting it or smth i'm not as mad at him as i thought i would be? lemme explain myself better: i fully agree that his hostility & antagonising of y/n is completely unfair,uncalled 4 & puts him in the wrong 100%. but i also feel like it makes totally sense to have this reaction from him in order 4 the story to progress in this way. what i mean is that it's obvious that both him & hobi come from a place of privilege,from a life that isn't as close to the direct effects of bigotry(etc) as y/n's is. ofc bc they both are lykos & adults & informed(tnx also to hearing abt the effects of bigotry & discrimination from their mates that deal w/ it at wrk) BUT their lives were never fundamentally shaped around the harsh reality of everything that being a lyko entails in this wrld as much as it has happened w/ y/n. & bc of this, they still are at a stage where they can't fully understand y/n nor grasp what pulls the strings behind her thinking,her behaviour,her reactions. & i think that's just to be expected, it's natural that a privileged person is not gonna be able to wrap their head around most things that come w/ interacting w/ somebody who's not priliged like them & has seen & lived the worst the status quo can put somebody of that marginalised group through. This puts them in a very important position where if they will come around makin y/n a part of their lives,they will have to do a lot of wrk of learning new & diff realities that exist outside of their own,on a deeper lv of just being aware of it from a distance gifted to you by your privilege. & in that process of learning, they can become the most powerful allies to y/n in her own process of unlearning internalised hatred & discrimination instead, & introduce her better to their way of seeing likos & omegas in their reality that isn't centered around saps but their families & pack's life. said that,does that justify jin's hostility toward y/n,does it make it ok? N to the hell O,no absolutely. it makes sense from a realistic pov & it sets ground 4 opportunities to come to terms w/ his biases & starts to unlearn them in the future,as the story progresses ofc, but it won't save him from catchin' these hands 4 sure!!😃🤜

i may also think that it would be a tiny lill' bit satisfying in the future to see him( when he's already done the inner wrk of unlearning & reconciliated w/ y/n) look back at this 1st moments & see them under a totally diff & new light & feel remorse/guilt a lil bit...just a lil bit😊🤏 (if that happens in the story i mean. i don't know yet & this is just the magic that's part of the reader experience! don't feel pressured of anything,these are all just my rambles & speculations ofc ^^)

-even tho we still have to get a proper taste of him(which is super fine,things are going w/ the pace u write them to!^^), i abso love how u'r writing tae so far! esp how u pictured his artistic & more sensisitive side & how u showed it as smth that is valued & respect by all pack members! it is refreshing both in the sense of seeing it represented by an alpha character & also by a male character. it really left a deep impression in me & made me fall deeper in love w/ your writing!😄💜

-Another refreshing choice of yours that i really have an emotional attachment to at this point is making hobi a power-boss-i wear the pants in the house-omega! not only that,but he's also an omega that by choice & in completely autonomy taps into his own softness & domestic role,while not being seen as less or weaker bc of that,quite the opposite,he's seen as basically the leader,the person that everybody relies on 4 decision-makin' & management of their home,pack & dynamics! a role that most of times i've seen assigned to namjoon or jin as solely alphas tho,so it's nice to see u break out of that mold

-I also i'm a huge fan of how u represent y/n's internalised bigotry, through a voice & constant internal fighting between aspects of herself that she sees either as diff versions of herself or parts she refuses to acknowldge or see as herself anymore.

-this story feels to me like a story that will eventually become the narration of a journey of unlearning, of healing & finding self-worth within & so much more... w/ huge amounts of angst along the way... i dunno if this is what u have in mind ofc,but whatever direction this story will head into,ik 4 sure i won't be disapointed & i'm gonna love both the ride & the destination regardless cause your writing is THAT MUCH GOOD!!

Duuuuuude i thought you died or something and i missed you too. Like so much. I love your asks. They're never too much. I love how you pick up literally all the things i put down in my writing. Like you mention things I've been hoping someone would mention. I should let you know in case you didnt see that chapter 7 was posted a few days ago. And that's where a lot of the jin anger came from 👀 but its good bc im ready to jump into this ask, and im gonna go completely out of order.

First of all, I'm so glad you brought up her internal dialog and how they are actually different parts of herself. The italicized voice is her instinctual, most internal self. Like her real consciousness, and i hear it as very soft. It's almost a child's voice, and its almost always pleading in the most heartbreaking way just to have its needs met. The saddest part is that so often she doesn't hear it as herself. The bold italic voice is actually a combination of many voices, thats why its bold. Sometimes its just one pretty agressive voice, as someone from her past who has wormed its way into her head and multiplied there. Sometimes i hear it as many layered voices, like some kind of legion of demons trying to shut down her little voice. And its sad bc one of those voices is just the part of her that has developed to protect herself. Like it tells her not to do things that she needs but knows will get her in trouble, like nesting. The worst part is that more often than not she sides with/backs up the bold voice with her own deliberate thoughts. She still refuses to give her inner child what it needs and its so heartbreaking. The development of these voices throughout the story is one thing im really looking forward to developing (sorry i have thought so much about this)

You got it right with your analysis of their privilege! There's a little bit of a divide within the pack when it comes to privilege and how much it touches each of them. Its a reason jimin and yoongi have a special relationship with each other, not that it's better than the others, just different bc they understand things the others never will truly get. But they will try. Jin and yn will eventually have a relationship of trying to understand each other and jin will definitely regret those early days. We're a bit far from that for now 😬

Im glad you like tae too! He's kind of got a sad story that we're not ready to focus on yet, but seeing mc bring out a confident side in him will be worth the wait 🥰

Hobi is so powerful and strong and in charge, everyone else is lucky to be in his presence. Honestly he coddles Jin a little too much sometimes and thats part of how he got as bad as he is but wait you have to read chapter 7 and 8 🤐

Thats exactly what this story is about! Its bts so i feel like they're perfect for a Love Yourself journey! They're a good pack for her because they wont let all the troubles of this world leak into their home. They'll protect her from the systemic violence that has really destroyed her from the outside in. Its going to be a tough but i think very rewarding journey!

Ps. I think i answered this whole ask without bringing up alpha yoongi (which is the longest ive gone without talking about Yoongi in weeks) so thats good i guess my brains not totally rotten. (Yoongi Yoongi Yoongi Yoongi okay bye)
