The story is based on the myth of Aeolia the island kingdom of Aeolus, the ruler of the winds, visited by Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey. Aeolia was purely mythical, a floating island surrounded by "a wall of unbreakable bronze" where the "cliffs run up shear" ....but I also added a twist about V/ento lore, I see similar traits to both him and the bard so I made a think.....I also made it "seem" like he forgot your b day (because well I kinda mixed up the dates lol) but he did not!! Obligatory Kuboyasu analysis consisting of me spewing his praises for his birthday

It always continues to astound me how well adjusted Kuboyasu is, considering everything. Yeah his anger is bad, but beyond his moments of getting triggered (whether from moments that remind him of his past, i.e PTSD, or things that genuinely upset him) he’s the most rational out of all them, sometimes even beating out Saiki. More than that, Kuboyasu is evidently more willing to act like a kid than Saiki. The thing is, Saiki is a kid at heart; he just represses those desires. Kuboyasu doesn’t. I’d argue it makes him more mature than Saiki.

More than that, he’s a really good friend. He’s one of the few people who approach Saiki with minimal false assumptions beyond the ones Saiki pushes and the ones Kuboyasu has toward civilians. And those disappear rather quickly. He’s cunning and confident, and knows how to be a competent leader. There’s a lot of traits about him that make him just a genuinely good guy for the others to have in their lives, and definitely has fewer attachment issues than Saiki, making him easier for people to latch onto.

This is one of the reasons Kaido and Kuboyasu stick together like glue. I think both Kuboyasu and Saiki adore Kaido in similar ways, and also seek to protect him. Kuboyasu is just willing to actual let himself be on the same level as ‘his people’ because he doesn’t have a cocktail of god complexes and self-hatred like some people. Kaido would be as close to Saiki if Saiki let him, but Saiki has to heal some wounds before he feels comfortable doing so.

And I don’t CARE that they called it cliche, Kuboyasu wanting to be a teacher is such a fantastic sign of both his desire to do good in the world and his aims to better himself. This is one of the few people Saiki has almost no influence on their character development. Kuboyasu did that.

TLDR, Kuboyasu is amazingly well-adjusted and likely actively seeking to better himself, and despite not showing up as much as the other characters, still manages to prove himself to be a genuinely good friend and person. Happy birthday to one of my favorite characters!

There's a warmth over your skin as you slowly stir from your sleep, your eyes aching from the tears you'd shed through the night. You slowly blink and take a deep breath, rubbing at your eyes with a tired hand as you slowly turn to the source of heat behind you.

"I was worried you were going to sleep the day away, yoi."

Your exhausted glare meets Marco, though you let him tug you closer. The side of your face rested on his chest as one of his arms wrapped tightly around you, the other running through your hair lovingly as he continues,

"Are you going to tell me what happened?"

You shook your head, clinging to him a little tighter to which he returned the motion.

"Just sick of being too much."

Marco sighs, now knowing exactly what was wrong. Craning his head down to press soft kisses to the top of your head, he murmurs,

"You're never too much, yoi, especially to us. You know that. Ace was just joking, you know how he is."

You can't help the bitter "tsk," that leaves you as you turn your head slightly to bury your face completely in his chest, hoping to press hard enough to cut off your breathing.

"... don't do that," he snaps softly, pinching your side a few times to make you squirm in his arms until you finally pull your head up, only to glare up at him again.

"Well, where's the joke, Marco? He hurt my feelings and laughed it off when I said that."

Marco's face turned sullen at your words, his hand moving from your hair to cradle your cheek in a warm palm. His thumb brushes just under your teary eye, right as a tear slips out.

"I know it doesn't mean much, but I apologize for him. It was a tasteless joke and I'll be sure to talk to him later-"

Before he can finish his words, the door to your shared room is kicked open as a teary-eyed Ace bursts in. He kicks the door shut and flings his shoes off before diving into the bed and clinging to your front like a lost child, his arms pressing your back to his overheated chest.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't thinking, I'm so so sorry," he babbles out, his wet face pressed into your neck as he shocks you into silence. Your wide eyes kept on Marco as he smiles warmly down at you, giving you a wink as one of his hands pats Ace on his tattooed back.

"You're cutting that apology close there, kid."

Ace sniffles and pulls away to look at your face, his frown deepening as he takes in your red eyes and dark bags under your eyes.

"I'm such an asshole," he bites out, causing you to turn and hold him in a tight hug. He stiffens under your tough until you pull back to pepper kisses over his face, his eyes falling shut as the adoration you give him.

"Yeah, you are an asshole," you start, giving his cheeks a pull with your fingers as you continue, "and it really hurt my feels that you laughed off how I was feeling. I'd appreciate if you didn't fuckin' do that again."

Ace nods and gets out a muffled "you got it." You let got of his cheeks and he groans softly, one of his hands moving from your body to rub his aching cheeks.

"I'm so sorry, babe. I really didn't mean anything by it, I really was just being an asshole. Are you mad at me?"

You shook your head before motioning to Marco with a small smile.

"Not anymore, thanks to him. You've got a lot to make up for, though."

Ace's face breaks out into a wicked grin as he tugs you closer, pulling one of your thighs over his own as he murmurs,

"I think I can handle that."

He goes to kiss you but stops, his eyes flickering from you to Marco and he asks,

"You gunna sit back and watch or are you gunna help me make our girl feel better?"

Marco rolls his eyes but curls around you nonetheless, one of his hands sneakily sliding down the front of your pajama shorts to press into your slick warmth, reveling in the way you practically sing for him.

"Like she said," Marco started, giving the other commander a devilish wink. "You've got a lot to make up for."

He moved down to kiss and gently suck on the side of your throat, his tongue trailing up to behind your ear as he nearly demands Ace,

"Better get started."

"Boop you?" Nick replied, his voice completely serious. "Yes. Yes, I did."

"Why?" Judy asked cautiously, still covering her nose (and her cheeks just in case they flushed without her permission).

"Because you were thinking too hard," he answered easily, shrugging as if he booped her nose at the time. (He didn't, but that didn't mean he didn't want to.)

"Well," Judy scoffed, turning her head in the other direction. "That doesn't make it right. How would you like it if I booped you?" Hah! That would show him. You really shouldn't boop other mammals noses without permission. (Especially if the noses Nick was booping were attached to attractive mammals.)

But to her disappointment, Nick only bursted into laughter, making her cheeks flush in anger. "And just what is so funny? "

"Sorry, carrots," Nick said, actually wiping a tear from his eyes. "But can you even reach my face?"

"Course I can," Judy said confidently, her smiling falling when Nick started laughing again.

"Yeah," he snickered into his paw, pissing Judy off even more. "I'm sure if you hopped you could."

If anyone asked Judy later, she would simply say that she was pushed to her limit and had absolutely no recollection of her choice in the decision of yanking down Nick's tie (thus reaching his face) and kissing him.

But she would also say that she didn't regret it.

Hive Trooper Milo

This is my OC Milo (CT-4304)! He's a special operative/stealth trooper, and he's here to show off proper hive trooper proportions and anatomy :]! More info below the cut <3

Milo is a sweetheart and has agreed to be a model

His batchmate, Cicada (CT-3301), will show up another time to demonstrate how helmets work with their antennae

(side note if you understand why cicada's number is 3301 you're my new fav ily)

As you can see, Properly Proportioned and not Cutesy hive troopers are much less visibly fluffy when they're wearing their armor

This doesn't mean that there's less fluff, it's just covered properly by the armor

The fluff also continues up the neck, and in the back it meets the bottom of their hair

On the front of the neck/throat area, the fluff is shorter and finer

On the back and base of the neck and chest, the fluff is longer and thicker

The fluff is very soft and comfy- it helps by being waterproof and very warm on icy planets

On the other hand, it's not very breathable and very flammable, so it's not great in hot environments or facing down a flamethrower

Hive trooper wings are made of a very strong, surprisingly light chitin

The chitin has a property similar to beskar: it can withstand a blaster shot! (not one at point blank or very close range, though)

It can't withstand a lightsaber, unlike pure beskar

The chitin of the wings is super flexible, so troopers' wings are actually quite hard to break

The wings attach to the troopers' upper back in the shoulder blade area

The wing joint is like a ball and socket joint, allowing the wings to have a lot of range and flexibility, giving the troopers a lot of finite control over their aerial maneuverability!

The chitin continues onto the back, covering the entire back and a little ways around the sides with a thin, flexible, transparent layer of chitin

Over top of that, there are several dense, stiff chitin plates that are even more effective than the thin chitin

Below the plates, on the lower back, is where the secondary abdomen is connected

The secondary abdomen is covered in overlapping, thick chitin plates, and has thin chitin as a flexible under layer

Each stripe is along the bottom edge of each plate

The secondary abdomen contains stinger, venom sac/gland, crop, stomach, intestines, liver, gall bladder, and pancreas

Since the torso is lacking the majority of the digestive organs, the lungs are much bigger and take up a lot more space

The heart is also larger to compensate for the additions of wings and secondary abdomen

The venom gland produces a substance that can send just about any sentient, allergic or not, into anaphylactic shock within a couple minutes

Thankfully troopers are very polite and keep their stingers retracted while interacting with nat-borns

The troopers themselves are immune to the venom, fortunately

The antennae are very expressive!

Aside from being used as a sensory organ, the antennae move in a somewhat involuntary response to emotions, much like a cat's ears or a horse's tail

One method of silent greeting for troopers is bonking antennae, whether that be bumping antenna to antenna or antenna to head/shoulder

It's a big deal for a nat-born to be greeted like this by a trooper, especially since antennae are so sensitive! It means they're "part of the hive"

Bonking antennae goes hand-in-hand with a keldabe for the boys :]

In case you haven't heard about this amazingly adorable fun fact: bees give a lil "woop" when they bump into each other!

Troopers do it too, but it's more of a gentle lil "oop" or "ope"

Stealth troopers and any ARCs that take on stealth missions have to be trained out of this involuntary response so they don't get caught if they bump into each other

The upper blacks that the troopers wear obviously have to be quite different

They have an open back and a closure at the top back just below the neck

You sort of have to step into it like a leotard and pull it up, put your arms through, and then do the closure at the top
