When the cat cries, run! Kuroneko or a black cat in the bamboo Grove is an adaptation of a Japanese folktales. It tells of two women, who are brutally raped and murdered during a civil war in Japans Heian period. Their spirits seek revenge and they vow to get revenge and take the lives of the samurai. Released in 1968 and Directed by legendary director Kaneto Shindo who's previous works was the movie onibaba. What I loved about this movie is the distinct art style and visuals that are present in this film. The shots where you can see the woman almost glide through are iconic and chilling. The bamboo forest has its own sense of foreboding which ramps up heavily as the movie progresses. What's interesting is the themes, this movie feels distinctly anti samurai. Instead of being portrayed as heroic warriors who follow the code of bushido but over entitled men who believe they have ownership and privilege. Its a big change and one this movie utilises. This is a brilliant film and one I can happily recommend to others. Its a good ghost story and the ending shots will stick with you long after films finished. After hearing Shudder UK was going to be rebooting and releasing a horror anthology series continuing the creepshow franchise, I must admit I was a little sceptical at first but I was happily and pleasantly surprised. The series is a brilliant mix of creep and black comedy. Not only does it honour the source material but it helps bring it into the modern age forging it's own eerie and quirky path. Each episode contains two stories, from Champie to ghosts and evil demons. The stories are wild and creative and each are quite fun. At no point watching this series did I feel bored. The guest stars that are featured are great with stars like Tobin Bell, Adrienne Barbeau and Jeffery Combs. If you like your horror with a splash of fun and black comedy this is the series for you. When poor kirsty thought the nightmare was over she was wrong. Frank cotton might not have been the only individual to escape hell and the only one not to have an interest in hell. Kirsty might not just have the escape the confines of her own guilt, the hospital but hell itself....... Hellraiser 2:Hellbound came out in 1988. This to me was the last true sequel to the Clive Barker classic. Despite there being many hellraiser movies this was true to Barkers vision, complex and dark. Whereas the later movies take the movies into basic slasher territory, simplifying the stories and declining in quality until it's barely recognisable. Hellraiser 2 doesn't surpass the first movie but it is a worthy sequel and helps to build on the world and mythos of the first movie. Doug Bradley yet again steals the show as the hellpriest both cold and articulate. Ashley Laurence as kirsty is brilliant and Claire Higgins is sinister as Julia. I love the dark fantasy element of the movie. The expansion which feels natural for the world. Hell is interesting and feels different to how you would expect but thats Good. 1992 pinhead returns in Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth in probably one of the last alright hellraiser films in the series. There are some great kills in this movie but it doesnt feel like a true hellraiser film. It fits in more with a slasher movie. In the previous two movies the cenobites despite being denizens of hell are more of a neutral force both helping and hindering the main character whilst remaining sinister. In this movie Pinhead is a straight up villain, while being a near pun machine. There are a new line up of cenobites introduced but neither have the impact of the originals. There are some cool scenes like pinhead wiping out a nightclub. Doug Bradley yet again shines and steals the movie as the hellpriest. But sadly he is the best part of the movie. The problem which I found was that it was taken on by dimensions films which didnt understand the franchise or the characters instead turning it into a familiar slasher instead of the dark fantasy. Well guys and girls I will be watching and reviewing all Leprechaun films from 2 to 5 this is going to be painfully bad. Leprechaun 2 is about the leprechaun Warwick Davis surfaces in Los Angeles to claim a bride as his previous object of affection was denied to him a thousand years before in Ireland. He kidnaps teenager Bridget Shevonne Durkin grotesquely murdering anyone who gets in his way. It falls to Bridget's boyfriend Cody Charlie Heathto rescue her. Cody enlists the aid of his perpetually tipsy uncle Morty Sandy Baron who decides to go after the homicidal leprechaun's pot of gold. Oh God this felt so long and only 85 minutes long. The acting is terribly bad apart from Warwick Davis the directing is standard and as for the story I think I fell asleep. So do I recommend Leprechaun 2 nooooooooo there's a place in hell for this film. I'm going to give Leprechaun 2 1/10 the 1 for Warwick Davis apart from go to hell you crap film. and remember people if you see Leprechaun anywhere it still be better then this film hahahahaha.
