more narayani thoughts now that I'm past the midway mark of inquisition:

early/mid 30s

her parents died when she was young (killed by humans?) and she was raised by the clan. she wasn't the most gracious ward, but she has always been deeply loyal and proud of the clan and her place in it

had a period of Youthful Resentment/Revenge Fantasy during which she had a falling out with one of the elders she was close to; the elder died before they patched things up. whether it was from guilt or just grief, she distanced herself slightly from the clan after that, and often requested jobs that would take her farther from the clan for longer periods of time

became a hunter young—she had a natural talent and pushed herself hard to live up to it. between that, a childhood spent running wild, and a deep need to know about the outside world, she was familiar enough with humans to interface with them when the occasion called for it—ergo her assignment to go to the conclave

briefly desperately wanted to be a mage as a kid and was disappointed that she wasn't. as an adult, she's grateful not to bear that burden

not being a mage, she has no means of moderating or managing the mark and its power. she feels that strain all the time, and it wears on her

she's friendly with some people in the inquisition but she doesn't really consider any of them close. maybe dorian, eventually, but even they have a rocky start

she's slowly losing herself to the machine of the Inquisition. it's sharpening her edges and eroding away everything that isn't The Inquisitor. varric says it can be hard to remember she's a person and she leans into that unperson-ing.

she favors leliana in most things, and the inquisition leans more spies-and-secrets the longer it lingers
