#i get tired of people saying 60s who is sexist

Am I the only one who doesn't think that 60s era Doctor Who's trend/themes of 'protect women' isnt sexist?
Most of the complaints I see about 60s Who sexism, and the male characters of that era is largely due to the men being like 'girls stay back.' But a) there is nothing inherently sexist about that imo? Men protecting women is the most healthy masculine thing possible. And b) when the women are like 'no lol' the men are like 'okay fine let's go' and respect their decisions on the whole.
Like that isn't sexism? That's just recognising men and women are different?

I love Venture Brothers to death, but it really is frustrating how much misconception their Fantastic Four parody has created around the general audience's view of Reed Richards. I'm really tired of people constantly bringing it up to be negative about Reed and saying it's basically a spot-on characterization of him when it blatantly isn't.
The Venture Bros Fantastic Four is over-the-top dark satire. It takes the character's most negative traits and amplifies them to the point of absurdity for the sake of humour. But for some baffling reason, people who have never touched a FF comic in their lives seem keen to believe it's a perfect representation of their dynamic.
Also, I just... cannot understand why Reed always seems to be the one to get the most flack for the sexist attitudes of the 60s. I mean, yes, there are definitely some cringe-worthy panels of him back then, but the exact same can be said for a ton of other beloved heroes, and most people understand that it's a product of their time and it doesn't define them today. But for some reason, people are just determined to believe Reed is always a cold and abusive jerk.
Anyway, yeah. Rant over. These comments were mostly mild examples compared to others I've seen, but the fact that takes like this pop up again and again is annoying. I'm really hoping the MCU doesn't screw up his characterization or else we will never be free. 😐

The Male Gaze
The Male Gaze is far too overplayed as far as I’m concerned.  I first heard of this theory within my media studies class where we analyzed old advertisments from the 60′s and as far as I am concerned, it is a valid theory. Women in the media and in other creative works were often presented by men who viewed women through a male, sexist lense. The '1960s folgers coffeee’ advertisment and ‘Lulu and her happy shoes’ are evident of that. Male producers presented women in ways that fit their sexist view of them.  But here is the thing, the way in which a lot of people intepret and apply this theory is just so exhausting. No, everything women do is not about men. Plenty of women don’t have a voice in the back of their head that keeps telling them how to please a man.  I am so sick of this sexist heteorsexual world view. Men are not the center of the world, plenty of them are just an annoyance as far as I am concerned. We don’t live in vaccums and I understand that some may actually struggle with this, but please don’t put it on all of us. I’m just a tired lesbian that only simps for women. I already suffer enough by having to deal with men and frankly the only reason I would ever make myself purposefully ugly is to get them to back off forerver. I don’t like guys talking to me or hitting on me. Nor do I like them complimenting me.  I don’t have anything against men or those who are AMAB. Being born a certain sex doesn’t say anything about a person. What I can’t stand is men who hit on me and sexualize me. Ugh stop. But I refuse to make my life about avoiding men either. I will do what I want. Just wish dudes would f*ck off.   Like last week I got hit on by a older homeless dude (30-40) after I brought him food. Like I knew that he wanted drug money but I’m not a push over. I also know that he was proably just trying to get with me to have a place to stay and or he simply is desperate (a lot of dudes are like this, they will try to tell you what they think you want to hear to get some pussy.) And then there is my flatmate - he is the guy that actually acts as though he exists, the same can’t be said for most of the other ones. Basically at first he was nice and so I was, just chill nice friendly flatmate stuff. But now he is texting me way too much. In the beginning we all had shared out numbers to be in a flat group chat to talk communal areas related stuff. But now he messages me about stuff like e.g. your mail is here, are you ok and alive - the first time made sense since I was gone for a week, the second time aka yesterday was because he didn’t see me in....24 hours :/ (that’s normal, we don’t see each other that often.) Trust me I can tell that he is trying to do more than tell me about the mail. He tried to go for some small talk to lead into a convo. I’m just glad that my sleeping hours are weird so I don’t have to see him that much. And I am moving out in a few months. Bro we are flatmates, dont try to make us friends or anythign more. I find the thing weird. And then there is the third dude who was trying to indirectly hint at chilling with me in my city (dude hasn’t talked to me much, is hinting at it and only doing so because he wan’t me to do emotional labour for him.) I am basically yeeting that friendship - yep that’s what we were. But yeah I’m not catching the bate and will keep acting as though I think he is on about someone else. I will proably end that “friendship” soon, I just want to get him to admit stuff first.

I've reached a point where I am legitimately ashamed of being lgbt. There's so much sexism (I have seen "queers" quoting -almost verbatim- ideas of womanhood from the 1870s. Let that sink in for a moment.) and box building coming out of that community, that I, a gnc lesbian, who has only ever known sex (gender isn't really a part of our culture...yet, we're importing all those wonderful 60+ genders -.-) feel like those people are hellbent on putting me in a stereotyped box - while they themselves screech about boxes. Worse yet, lgbt acceptance is decreasing thanks to that shit. 10 years ago I wouldn't have been afraid to come out to my parents. Now, I am.
Sorry, for venting, but there's no one I could safely talk to about those grievances.
As I always say, no need to apologize for venting! 💖
I feel you. It’s embarrassing at this point to be lgbt because we’re automatically associated with the “queers”. People tend not to make the separation between them and actual lgbt people just trying to go about our lives.
And that association hurts us in the long run.
Honest to goodness homophobes aren’t making the distinction between “queer” people and lgbt people. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen somebody take a look at some crazy news article, and make the “slippery slope” argument.
“We told you same sex marriage would be a slippery slope!!” Is what they say, and it KILLS me to hear that sort of thing.
The sexism is bad, too. I see it around so much and it genuinely upsets me. Here’s this group of people talking about how progressive and accepting they are... while being unbelievably sexist. They enforce gender roles, they push old fashioned ideas of womanhood, and it’s just tiring to see.
You’re absolutely right in saying that the “queers” are hellbent on shoving you in a box. They simply can’t comprehend the idea of a GNC person. They need gender roles. They need to be able to say “this is a masculine person, so he’s a man. This is a feminine person, so she’s a woman. And this is somebody in the middle, so they’re neither”.
I just wish things weren’t the way they were. It makes it exhausting to be lgbt, because it feels like the sane bunch of us are running around doing damage control while the Queers do their damned hardest to shut us up and speak for and over us.
And I hope that the lgbt movement can get back on the right track to become respectable again, and to stop making us all look like absolute lunatics. Because it’s really hard to go around in the world as an lgbt person while people are going around acting like idiots in your name.
The acceptance drop is scaring me, because I can easily see a future where “lgbt” no longer means “same sex attracted and/or is transgender/transsexual”... but comes to be purely associated with the “queer community”. And we simply won’t be taken seriously.
And if there’s no distinction made between a gay bi or trans person and a “nonbinary demisexual genderfluid panromantic”, as we’re starting to see... we’re in trouble. I don’t blame people for letting their acceptance drop. Because I mean, look around. The lgbtqiakeysmash community is an absolute NIGHTMARE.
My point is, being lgbt is getting worse and worse simply because of how we’re forced to sit and watch people make a mockery of us.

seen people on twitter talking about what got them through 2020, but twitter scary so I’m just gonna ramble about podcasts here. I’ve loved audio fiction since I was little, when my brother used to bring me big finish doctor who to listen to when I was sick, and they’ve really been great for me this year in terms of... want story but too tired to keep eyes open? podcast. need to do a mundane task but can’t stay on it? podcast. need something on before you sleep because if you leave your brain to its own devices it’ll eat itself? podcast. looking for queer rep? podcast. below the cut I’ve stuck 10 of my favourites of the shows I started listening to this year, and I promise they’re not all from Definitely Human.
Down - fiction, horror - a state of the art submarine with a less than state of the art crew descends into a newly-discovered Antarctic trench, “The Bottomless Pit” for the purposes of exploration and science! This goes about as well as you would expect. Episodes are super short and it’s entirely possible to listen to the whole thing in less than a day, although unfortunately it’s currently unfinished due to covid, so I guess it’s more that in less than a day you, too, could join me in unintentional hiatus hell. It is worth it.
Enthusigasm - nonfiction, talk - Rusty Quill patreon exclusive show in which Helen Gould talks to people about things they enjoy. It just has the loveliest energy, and is exactly what I’ve needed this year. They’ve done episodes on subjects including baking, the horror genre and trash tv, and every one of them has been a joy, even when it’s about stuff I’m not into personally. How RQ manages to consistently produce The Best Content I don’t know, but by god do they do it.
Everything is Alive - interview - Gemma Amor recommended this and she’s usually right about such things. It’s a series of interviews with inanimate objects, all of which are animate now and have things to say. I’m particularly fond of the gay subway seats and was emotionally distraught by the cuddly toy. Very good to listen to to fall asleep.
Marscorp - fiction, sci-fi comedy - Station Supervisor E. L. Hob is awoken from suspended animation on Mars and must do her best to restore the colony’s original purpose of terraforming the planet. If you teased Jonny Sims for naming his main character after himself and also playing him please get ready to forgive him for everything, as you meet Tom Dalling, David Knight, and Dave Price, played by Tom Dalling, David Knight, and David Price, and written by Tom Dalling, David Knight, and David Price. I’m furious.
Pax Fortuna! - actual play, adventure - a rotating group of characters leaves a horrified and occasionally maimed trail of NPCs behind them as they adventure in and around the prosperous island city of Fortuna. The shifting cast works really well, allowing for some PCs who are just objectively terribly people, while keeping the whole thing feeling really fun. Particular favourite PCs are Selwyn Bloodstorm, half-orc in search of gold accidentally ending up with friends, Alfonso Boyo, a necromancer but only in the most bureaucratic and horrifying way possible, and Almira Q Appleby, gnome inventor presenting such items as The Potato Peeler (may contain combat setting) to an unsuspecting public. The series comprises six interconnected smaller stories, each with multiple episodes, all of which are around 25-30 minutes long, which has been a particular joy for me, as someone who has difficulty with episode lengths of over an hour and is so often “I love AP podcasts. love to actually listen to one someday”. Pax Fortuna! is the caramelised nut bowl of actual plays, in that I found it very difficult to stop consuming it, now it’s all gone, and I’m sad. There are only two fics on AO3. Please listen to Pax Fortuna!.
Shadows at the Door - anthology, horror - A collection of quiet horror stories, mixing older tales, both classic and less well-known, and modern ones. The soundtrack is by Nico, one of the editors on TMA and Good Egg, and it turns out, also Skilled Egg at soundtracks. Each story is followed-up by a discussion of its themes, and some tangents. Also very nice to fall asleep to, lots of suggestions of new things to look for, and the stories themselves are well-dramatised.
The Monster Hunters - fiction, comedy - It took me a bit of time to settle into this - I have a tendency to bounce off comedy, apparently - but once I had I was very settled. Roy Steel and Lorrimer Chesterfield are there with fists and brains respectively to hunt monsters and be anything from vaguely to pointedly sexist because it’s the 60s/70s (it is intentional and ludicrous). If you’re familiar with John Finnemore’s Souvenir Programme, you can listen out for Simon Kane as Sir Maxwell House. Some nice spooks, especially in the Christmas specials.
The Amelia Project - fiction, comedy - Need to disappear? The Amelia Project will help you fake your death and reappear in a new life. Each episode takes the form of an interview with a new client, in which they tell their story, and the circumstances of their death and next life will be decided. The creators had a stall at PodUK and gave me some Malteasers which it took me approximately 10 months to eat because I didn’t feel like I’d listened to enough of their show to deserve them. Fun fact! There are plenty of chocolate foodstuffs that will take this length of time in their stride and still be as new when you eat them, but Malteasers are not one of them. Luckily finishing off S2 of The Amelia Project has been its own reward, and I still have plenty to go!
The Infinite Bad - actual play, horror - a slowly-forming found family leaves a traumatised and usually dead trail of NPCs behind them despite their best efforts, as they are embroiled in a globe-spanning investigation of horror and mystery. Uses a modified version of the d20 modern system, set in the inter-war period, and, it should be noted, contains depictions of period-typical racism. Other CWs (this list is not exhaustive) include child death, pet death, gore, disease, misc death (so much misc death), so please be careful if you choose to listen. Also contains stairs, the inherent malevolence of citrus products, and things which are viscous.
These Flimsy Rituals - actual play, fantasy - I’m not very far into this one, due to episode lengths, but when I have the spell slots to do so I always enjoy listening to it. I’m in the first bit, which follows a group of people fleeing a living storm. They have some really lovely lyrical bits at the starts of the episodes that I could listen to for hours, I’ve found those of the characters that I’ve met very engaging, and I’m interested to see how it unfolds.

GETTING INTO PUNK MASTERPOST
Want to get into the punk subculture, but a bit intimidated by it?? Here's a little list of tips and tricks for getting into the scene!!!  [especially if you don't know any punks in real life, or aren't particularly close friends with any punks online either]
THINK FOR YOURSELF!!!! this is so important, you cannot be punk and NOT think for yourself, before accepting anything you have to think it through for yourself!!!!
DON’T BE RACIST, XENOPHOBIC, SEXIST, HOMOPHOBIC, TRANSPHOBIC, FASCIST. ETC. you cannot be part of a group of radical free thinkers as a bigot. If you are a bigot you are not and will not be welcome in the punk community
INFORM YOURSELF ON CURRENT ISSUES. Work to figure out what you think about current issues because (as stated before) its punk as hell to have your own opinions
LISTEN TO PUNK MUSIC. You don't have to listen to anything you don't vibe with, but trying out different genres of punk and listening to some of the big names will help you understand and share something in common with more “seasoned” punks.
TALK TO OTHER PUNKS. most of us are really nice, especially if we know you're trying to get into the scene! You can always interact/talk to us! most of us know how it can be a little scary to break into the scene and are willing to talk about our experiences!
TAKE YOUR SELF EXPRESSION INTO YOUR OWN HANDS. to whatever extent you can make/modify clothes for yourself. add patches and pins or paint on clothes [use fabric paint or acrylic mixed with fabric base for a cheaper alternative] ITS 100% OKAY TO WEAR YOUR MODIFIED CLOTHES EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT "DONE" YET! FUCK FAST FASHION!!
LOOK AT PUNK FASHION. there have been around 50 years of punk fashion, so find some you dig and base some of your modified clothes off of it (I'm really into 80s punk looks so I normally look like I crawled out of CBGB [famous punk bar in NY] during its peak years). Staples of a punk look are clunky boots or skate shoes (converse or knockoffs), band shirts, and battle jackets! Punk “fashion” is based on DIY and practicality. (it should be noted punk clothing also has an emphasis on being safe for moshing/protests, so normally no HUGE spikes and impractical shoes and super loose clothes)
GO TO SHOWS! ESPECIALLY LOCAL SHOWS!! going to shows in your local area is a good way to get into the scene. if you're underage or live in assfuck nowhere it's completely fine to not travel hours or get kicked out of a venue halfway through the show, so feel free to wait until you have a good chance to go to one. If you're in an area with a local scene, going out to local shows is a great way to meet and support other punks! [suggestion by @juggernaut-is-a-metalhead]
Some other notes
YOU CAN BE ANY RACE OR GENDER OR SEXUALITY AND BE PUNK, PUNK IS NOT JUST FOR WHITE CISHET MEN! PUNK HAS ALWAYS AND WILL ALWAYS BE AN INCLUSIVE SPACE FOR EVERYONE WHO’S SICK AND TIRED OF BEING KICKED AROUND BY ANY/EVERYONE!!!
YOU CAN BE PUNK AND MENTALLY ILL, YOUR MENTAL ILLNESS DOES NOT CONTROL YOU AND WHAT YOU WANT AND WHAT YOU BELIEVE EVEN IF SOMETIMES IT FEELS THAT WAY! It’s also completely fine and valid to not want to go to shows/protests or be confrontational if you have a mental illness or honestly just don’t feel comfortable or safe doing so.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE PIERCINGS OR TATTOOS TO BE PUNK! If you’re underage or just don’t want to or don’t have the money, it’s okay to not have body mods and it doesn’t make you any less punk.
we really don’t like bootlickers (basically people kowtowing to authority and authority figures)
we're anti-authority
a lot of us are atheists or at least have a distaste for formalized institutionalized religion
we kind of mind our own fucking business as long as the business isn't hurting us or others
there're a lot of anarchists in punk but you don't have to be one, there are also a lot of social democrats
we DO NOT hurt or harass people who don't deserve it (ie. kids, people who have nothing to do with whatever we're fighting against)
there're not really hard and fast rules that’s a big thing with punk, only you have power over yourself (”no authority but yourself” is a popular quote coined by anarcho-punk band, Crass)
Quick and basic punk genre breakdown
proto-punk- the punk before punk, this genre is comprised of 60s and 70s bands with a less refined sound than mainstream bands at the time, however, they normally didn’t have much in common. Bands like The Velvet Underground fall into this genre.
70's - punk begins to emerge as a genre people argue about who was actually the first punk band a popular choice is Ramones
80's- LOTS of punk potential here, 69.69% of "classic punk" bands are 80's punk
90's- ska started to emerge and punk was seen as skater music a lot of "classic punk" was also 90's
ska punk- based more on reggae, seen as skater music, normally has fun trumpets!
riot grrrl- feminist punk (just being an all female punk band doesn't make you a riot grrrl band, there’s a sound to it as well)
folk punk- punk but with different instruments and less 3 chord riffs
post-punk- punk but more modern, normally is a bit softer than "classic punk"
hardcore punk- punk with screaming, kind of sounds like black metal, but with anarchy
pop punk- punk but it sounds more pop-y (hotly debated what is and isn't, its kind of a dumpster fire)
garage punk- punk but EVEN less polished [this is my favorite genre]
THERE ARE MORE GENRES THAN THIS, THIS IS JUST A VERY FAST OVER-VIEW. Punk has about 1000000 different sub-genres so only the most popular and well known are included here!
(note about early punk: 70s and 80s punk sometimes included slurs in music or wearing hate symbols such as swastikas, this was because at the time a lot of punk forerunners subscribed to the idea that wearing/saying things employed by bigots would take power away from them, this idea was largely abandoned by the punk community as they made their way into the 90s. Now in the 20s punks wear lots of anti-hate symbols either coined by the punk community or lifted from other sources)
(2nd note, concerning inflammatory or ironic statements: a big part of punk culture and lyrics is using purposely inflammatory or heavily ironic statements, one way to figure out if the sentiment in a song is actually meant to be harmful or angry and not ironic is to look up the lyrics/band. As a rule of thumb if they’re an actual punk band that’s listened to by actual punks, it’s irony 99.8% of the time)
Some bands (almost) every punk has at least heard of:
Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Blink 182, Choking Victim, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Descendents, Green Day, Leftover Crack, Minor Threat, Misfits, NOFX, The Offspring, Operation Ivy, Pennywise, Ramones, Rancid, Sex Pistols, Social Distortion
[lifted off r/punk on reddit]
Some ending tips:
don’t feel embarrassed to look up lyrics or the sub-genre of a punk song/band, it's a way of learning! also don’t feel embarrassed to look into punk history, it shows you’re genuinely interested in the message and culture!
listen to punk compilation albums! they have some amount of fame in the scene in and of themselves (such as GIVE 'EM THE BOOT [VOLUMES 1-5], PUNK ROCK HALLOWEEN [VOLUMES 1-2], and BARRICADES AND BROKEN DREAMS)
check out entire record labels! you can find a lot of cool bands that don't get a lot of attention. here's a good masterlist of punk record labels, but if that's too daunting, Fat Wreck Cords, Epitaph Records, and Discord Records are very well known. [suggestion by @juggernaut-is-a-metalhead]
It’s completely fine to not have a lot of money to spend on records or supplies for DIY clothes. Punk has an emphasis that your clothes and shit don’t have to be “pretty” they have to be functional.
for DIY patches/pins you can put ANYTHING you want on them, song lyrics, rallying cries, dates, sayings, literally anything you want, every punk has some weird shit on their patches.
don't feel pressured into doing anything you don’t want to do, there is/was a group of punks who are "straight edge" meaning they didn’t drink or do drugs or stuff like that (more common in the 90s/00s)
seriously don’t be afraid to interact with other punks!! we're a bit rough but generally harmless if you don’t suck!!
it’s 100% normal to also have nonpunk interests, don’t feel like you have to give up anything you love to be punk.
You don’t have to listen to any of this to be punk, being punk is doing what you want to do because you want to!! This is just a compiled list of tips for anyone not sure where to start!
PUNKS NOT DEAD
[feel free to correct me if I’ve gotten something wrong! my DMs and asks are always open if you want to hear more of my punk hot takes or want to talk to someone about punk or punk adjacent shit!]

Catwoman 80th Anniversary
In 1940, one of the now most popular comic book heroes of all time got his very first solo run. It would become a milestone in comic book history. But he wasn’t the only one who had a chance to shine. In that premiere issue, even TWO of his most famous antagonists would be introduced: The man who laughs and the woman who steals.
That woman was intended to become the love of the hero’s life. The good guy and the naughty girl, the appeal was palpable. However, she wasn’t just a love interest or a generic thief or only another villain in the ever growing gallery of rogues the hero would face over decades to come, no - she was quite the character.
Her first alias was “The Cat” which would ultimately become Catwoman. Selina Kyle, the best thief in the world, a literal cat burglar, a classy seductress and queen of sass. And fans loved her so much that over time, she grew to become just as famous as the hero.
Her story has had its ups and downs. Mostly ups. ;) Going from the pages of the comics to the little and the big screen in the 60s, then she disappeared for a while, then made a comeback. She married the hero and had a child, though that marriage was later rebooted and was followed by a depressing origin story a sexist author made up for her in the 80s.
The 90s then turned out to be her decade! She found herself on the TV screen again, animated this time. She was portrayed by a Golden Globe winner on the big screen again. And she finally got her very own solo run in comics.
Her solo title was successful enough to run for over 20 years, a time in which her development from antagonist to anti-heroine would pan out. She would be a member of several teams, dance on both sides of the law, and even have another child. The screen called her back in form of a movie and a tv show. In one she was a thief with a love for killing, in the other a teenager. And we already know that her movie career will soon continue with two more projects.
In 2016, DC rebooted their entire universe. Catwoman’s origin story was changed, her relationships were lost, her solo run got canceled. No one knew what was real anymore - and fans didn’t like it. Only a year later, a retcon followed in a pathetic attempt to restore a status quo fans were familiar with and approved of. Even her solo run came back and today, in June 2020, we celebrate her 80th anniversary!
Catwoman is my favorite DC character ever. She’s clever, she’s funny, she’s stubborn, she’s classy, she’s confident, she plays by her own rules. When written right, she is such an entertaining character, unpredictable and fun.
In 80 years, there have been countless appearances, so many incarnations and interpretations of her - sure, I didn’t like all of them but you can say there’s something for each one of us. You don’t like her in the 2010s? Check out the 90s. You don’t like her in the 40s? Check out the 80s. There’s a version of Catwoman for many different tastes. She never goes out of fashion.
So to celebrate one of DC’s most famous women, they published a collection of 10 stories in total, written and drawn by people who have had touched her character over the past years.
Did Catwoman 80th Anniversary - Celebrating Eight Decades of Beauty and Burglary do her justice?
Warning: Spoilers!
Let’s check out each story and see what the writers came up with for this very special occasion. Except for one, none of these are meant to be canon, it’s just a collection of shorts meant to emphasise why Catwoman is so good. Something I noticed was that each writer had not picked any Catwoman to write but “their” Catwoman. A nice detail. Consistency, why not? Write what you feel comfortable and familiar with. This can only help with the quality of the stories, right? ... Right? ...
Strap in folks, this is going to be a LOOOOONG post!
Story #1: Skin the Cat by Paul Dini
Selina’s just living her normal life with her cats, occasionally stealing some money and jewels. Hey, a girl’s gotta eat. ;) What catches her attention are news reports about stolen big cats. I’m a cat lover myself and this series of crimes would worry me just as much as it worries Selina. She deduces where in Gotham someone could hide those wild cats, breaks in, and is welcomed by an eerie voice - as well as the taxidermied cats. Fucking bastard... The villain Taxidermist, quelle surprise, is behind the cat murders. He now intends to gas Selina and add her to his cat collection but Selina reveals that she’d already turned off the gas before breaking in. She escapes his long knives and watches as three big cats she had brought with her attack and kill him.
What an intro! A story about Selina’s love for cats and her strategic thinking. I really liked the first half! But once the Taxidermist shows up, it loses itself in drawn out exposition. Selina goes on a long monologue to explain to the reader who the Taxidermist is, how she knew it was him, how she turned off the gas, and how she replaced three of the dead cats with alive ones. I would have preferred to actually SEE her preparations for the face-off in flashback panels instead of having to read it. It didn’t feel natural at all. Also how the fuck did she bring 3 wild cats and switch them for the stuffed ones?! How?! And when?! I’m also quite sad that she didn’t get to save the cats. That was a bummer. So all she basically did was bring 3 big cats to kill a killer.
The art’s gorgeous, nothing else to say here!
6/10
Story #2: Now You See Me by Ann Nocenti
Ann Nocenti’s name immediately made me go uh-oh... Her bad and convoluted writing style made readers drop the Catwoman books which eventually lead to the solo run’s cancelation so you can understand why I was concerned.
So Catwoman is hiding a little pouch in a pigeon loft on a roof while pondering who to sell her stolen goods to - as well as where to vacation afterwards. She then notices a surveillance camera. The scene cuts to two cops on surveillance duty. They’re both bored as hell so when one spots Selina, he quickly distracts his colleague and leaves to find her. He takes the pouch out of the pigeon loft and a fight between him and Catwoman ensues. He reveals that he wants to become her partner. He wants to feed her any intel he can see on his screens so she could steal and sells some goods, and they’d split the money. When Selina refuses, he tries to blackmail her into complying. Selina presses a button on a little device and whatever’s in the pouch the cop sacked, explodes, sending him over the edge. Luckily, he lands on an umbrella Penguin had sent off apparently because we see him in one panel, angered that his plan was foiled. I’m not entirely sure what his “brilliant plan” was supposed to be. Something with gas tanks that were strapped to the umbrella I assume? I have no idea.
This one is missing too much context for my taste. What was in the pouch? Did the explosion kill the guy? What was Penguin doing there? What was his plan? Why did we need the second cop? For a super obvious but unnecessary parallel between Catwoman vs. corrupt cop and random woman vs. random man on one of the surveillance screens? Why give Catwoman so little “screen time” and so little dialogue? Is this short story referencing anything from Nocenti’s awful run and I just forgot? To quote Val Kilmer Batman: “It just raises too many questions.”
The art’s okay, nothing too special.
3/10
Story #3: Helena by Tom King
Oh boy. This is the big one. The one everyone’s been waiting for, I guess. The man who not so long ago had promised us a BatCat wedding just to shove a huge middle finger in our faces, promised us a pregnant Selina this time. I was skeptical of course. Also other readers were convinced he’d just let Selina have a miscarriage. Well, the good news is it wasn’t a miscarriage. The bad news is he almost makes Selina seem like she would have preferred a miscarriage.
The story goes like this: Selina hasn’t been feeling well so instead of going to a doctor like a normal person, Bruce scans her head and checks her vitals and blood (I can only assume because we’re not shown). Selina’s convinced that she’s seriously ill but a gentle, hopeful smile on Bruce’s face reveals the actual truth: She is pregnant. And her first reaction is shock and denial. We cut to BatCat fighting Tweedledum and Tweedledee (I think, you can’t really see them but the two men they knock out look identical). Selina then bends over and says that she’s about to throw up. Followed by a Batbucket joke. I’m getting so tired of all the forced self-awareness, guys. We cut to Catwoman, now sporting a baby bump underneath the skin-tight leather, sitting on a roof. She prepares a glass of wine while telling the baby that it is just like Bruce and it’s such a dick for taking away her freedom. After one sip, she chucks the glass away and curses. We’re then treated to a montage of BatCat fighting several rogues while Selina’s belly grows with each panel until it’s an 8, maybe 9 months along belly. I... I have no words. Except for yes, this was written by a man. BatCat are then standing on a roof and Selina laments that she’s a thief, not a mother, and the baby will derail her life and plans. The scene switches to Bruce and Selina in bed, arguing because she’s in labor. Bruce is ready to roll while Selina is STILL in denial, crying that she’s not a mother, that she’s not a hero or a good and brave person like him. Bruce tells her she didn’t run off so that means she’s a good person and they agree that it’s time to have the baby. Another cut to Selina having to take care of a crying baby Helena, asking why she’s crying when it’s Selina’s turn to stay at home and not Bruce’s. Selina talks to Helena, saying she’s luckier than Selina was because Selina’s mom ran off. She fucking FINALLY says something nice about her own child (”You’re a cute little kitten.”) and wonders what they’re going to do with her. The last page is old Selina and grownup Helena after Bruce’s death. Selina’s complaining about the pretty cemetery while Helena likes it. Her daughter’s ability to not shit on just everything and not be a total killjoy all the time causes Selina to say again that Helena is like Bruce. Upon Helena’s question if she’s anything like her mother, Selina answers that she’s just as stubborn as her. If she wants something, she steals it. Helena asks what she ever stole and Selina delivers the last predictable cliche of the story: “You stole my heart.”
Ugh. King’s Selina is just such a boring read. She’s not charming or interesting or sympathetic. Maybe I’m too used to a fun Selina but this one’s just a drag. A heavily pregnant Catwoman fighting Joker, yeah sure, totally not absolute bullshit. And the way Selina keeps distancing herself from the child inside her? For over 9 months?! Is she going out in that ridiculous catsuit because she wants to cause a miscarriage, is that it? So she doesn’t have to make a decision like abortion, adoption or leaving the baby with Bruce? Her constant cussing over the situation and crying and whining turns the pregnancy of my favorite DC couple into such a depressing ordeal.
The art is very pretty! Thank God.

Story #4: The Catwoman of Earth by Jeff Parker
After the depressing pregnancy of Catwoman, we switch to the wacky 60s version of her. Catwoman and her henchmen are robbing a science fair when suddenly, a UFO arrives. WTF?! Four aliens and a robot are beamed down to the surface and the group’s leader, an arrogant jock-like guy proclaims that they will take over the planet and enslave humanity. Catwoman angrily stands up to him. Turns out the evil aliens are sexist too when the male one tells Catwoman females have to ask for permission to speak and the female alien in the group unhappily agrees. The jock alien tells the muscly male alien to dispose of Catwoman but she’s not easy to dispose of! She fights off the brawler, she cuts the tentacles off the tentacle alien (someone WILL jerk off to that one panel), dodges the jock’s laser gun, steals the laser gun with her whip, shoots the robot to bits, and lets the police take the males away. The female alien seems much happier now and invites Catwoman to a flight around the world in the UFO. Catwoman suggests a trip to Paris so she can loot the Louvre.
Aliens and Catwoman don’t mix. I didn’t really care for this story. I mean it’s great to see Catwoman in action and taking down four guys on her own but... aliens and Catwoman just don’t mix. It was a bit jarring to me. Also the aliens’ designs weren’t super interesting. They were basically pink elves.
The art is beautiful. Catwoman looks like Julie Newmar and the entire color scheme is very 60s.

Story #5: A Cat of Nine Tales by Liam Sharp
Catwoman’s caught stealing a diamond necklace by an armed security guard. He seems a bit scared of her but knows it’s his job to stop her. She’s not engaging in a fight - of course not, he has a gun pointed at her! So instead, Catwoman relies on her talking skills. And intimidation skills. She tells the guard that there are 9 ways their situation could play out: 1. The guard lets her tie him up and escape with the necklace. 2. She beats his ass. 3. He kills her. 4. She scratches his eyes out. 5. He slips and gets knocked out. 6. He fires his gun, misses her, and the bullet ricochets until it kills him.  7. They team up. 8. She gives up. 9. She kills him. However, the story ends with the guard fainting because Catwoman’s just so damn scary.
Very short, very simple. Even the art is simple, on one page there are 3 very similar panels with only minor changes. Nothing memorable but not too bad. It shows how Catwoman can take someone out even without touching them. It’s okay.
The art reminds me of a comic from the 80s or maybe 90s. Hard to describe why. Guess you have to see it. Again, it’s okay.

Story #6: Little Bird by Mindy Newell
Selina learns from a news report that a priceless mezuzah has been found at a flea market. It’s currently at the Jewish Museum of Gotham City and Selina immediately steals it. Later, Batman shows up at her place and asks why she wants the mezuzah. She doesn’t give him much of an answer so he leaves. Pretty pointless scene I would say. A flashback reveals that a young Selina used to live with a Jewish lady. I dunno, I guess she’s a foster mother? And the woman liked Selina so much and considered her family so she gave her that mezuzah to pass it on to her own kids one day (even though Selina doesn’t want kids, is not related to the lady, and isn’t Jewish). Back to the present, Selina’s punishing a client. That prostitute background made an unwanted comeback for this story because Selina’s resisting and denying herself love so she’s “whoring”, to prove to herself how despicable she is. Okay...? There’s an inner turmoil going on, she’s torn between selling the artefact or not. Eventually, she decides to bring the mezuzah back to the lady she used to live with. The lady’s grown old and demented, lives in a home and is at the verge of dying. Selina places an envelop between the lady’s hands and leaves. The home’s director finds the envelop which contains the mezuzah, an official document which basically ensures that the lady will be taken care of before and after her death, and a poetic note from Selina.
My least favorite story out of them all - and that is quite an accomplishment when there are King and Nocenti in the same book! It had that Frank “I’m an insane sexist racist asshole” Miller prostitute bullshit in it and Selina hating herself again. This time, the “whoring” (and this word is not me, it’s from the actual story) is used as a way of self-punishment. Because it’s disgusting and wrong and Selina only does it to torture herself. Dunno if that’s the right message you wanna send here... The Jewish lady was kinda random to me because Selina’s not Jewish and never has been Jewish. This is not a negative point, it’s just so random. And the Batman scene was pointless, I have no idea what purpose it served. Except for showing us Batman pay Selina like a john and having Selina make jokes about “whoring.” Ugh.
The art was great, very clean.

Story #7: Born to Kiln by Chuck Dixon
Going from my least favorite to my favorite story in this book!
Catwoman knows there’s a diamond in a safe on a boat that is set to leave the harbour in the morning. So she climbs aboard at night to steal the gem. She finds several dead sailors and they’re all covered in mud. Who could have done this? Yes, you guessed right - it’s Clayface! He’s already at the safe, opens it, and retrieves the big stone. Catwoman reveals herself and aims a fire hose at him. Her confidence, however, dies the moment the hose doesn’t work. Clayface swallows the diamond and starts chasing after her. There’s apparently a machine to spray-paint cars on the boat so she lures him inside, activates the paint to blind him, and the hot lamps for the drying process immobilise the big pile of mud. Now that he’s nothing more than hard clay, Catwoman takes a wrench to him and takes the freed diamond.
FINALLY a story I really, really like from beginning to end! First off, IT’S PURPLE CATWOMAN!!! Selina is wearing my favorite costume, the iconic Jim Balent suit from her 90s solo run in this story - and I LOVE IT!!! Yeah, her boobs are quite loose in it and sometimes dangle in strange ways but fuck it! LOL I prefer hanging boobs over a tight corset that should reduce her agility or a back breaking pose anytime! We get sneaky Selina, we get playful Selina, we get over confident Selina who has to think fast and run even faster, and she gets what she wants in the end without killing anyone.
The art is gorgeous! It’s very fluid and alive. I also absolutely adore the cute facial expressions on Kitten’s face, especially when she locks Clayface in. I miss Catwoman being fun. In this, she’s just adorable and not sexualised at all.

Story #8: Conventional Wisdom by Will Pfeifer
Selina finds herself at a Bat Con and is supposed to give autographs. The whole scenario seems weird and confusing to her, she doesn’t remember how she got there or what is going on. Bruce, Joker, Riddler, and Two-Face being there with her to give autographs is even weirder. And why does no one except for her react to that unconscious, bloody man on the floor?! On her way to her panel, she runs into several cosplayers which is basically only fan service. But you will find the male, dark-skinned version of me at her panel, asking when the fuck she will finally put that 90s suit back on!!! The dialogues keep breaking the fourth wall, pointing out that this story is about to end. One of the panel’s attendees looks like Marvel’s Taskmaster and another is Selina herself in her Catwoman suit. Selina slowly remembers what happened: The Taskmaster dude is Doctor Destiny, she broke into his lair and stole his reality distorter, a little machine she’s been carrying around for the entire story. She smashes the machine to wake up back in the lair and cracks her knuckles, ready to take down Doctor Destiny and his goons.
And it was all a dream! That twist has never been a favorite of mine. Even though it’s not really a twist; you know immediately that it’s a dream. We don’t learn anything new about Selina or see anything Catwoman-y in this. It’s really basically fan service. They wanted Selina to see and interact with real life fans of hers so they made it happen. She also comments on various versions of her costume. It’s cute but kinda forgettable.
The art is good, it’s rare to see light and bright colors in a Catwoman book so it was a nice change. And the cosplayers looked nice. But they could have used different body types to make the fans more diverse and visually appealing.

Story #9: Addicted to Trouble by Ram V
And here we are, the premiere of the duo that will take over Catwoman’s current solo run from #23 onward. We get a first taste of the writing and art and I must say it’s a good taste.
This short story serves as a continuation of Joelle Jones’ #21 issue where at the end of the arc, Selina and her sister Maggie left Gotham in a purple car. So we see a short recap of how they got the car and where they were headed but unfortunately, the engine dies. They hitchhike to Memphis. Selina’s frustrated that Maggie doesn’t talk to her. They get drunk and start a fight at a bar. The cops show up and arrest them. While sitting in the back of the cop car, the girls start laughing together and steal the car. They leave behind their luggage which only contains stuff they won’t miss - including Selina’s cat funeral dress. They drive back to Gotham, Selina steals food and drinks on the way, and they cuddle on a rooftop overlooking the city. The story cuts to Selina and Leandro, a character I would know if I had continued the Jones run. She tells him she wants to lay low for a while and stay out of trouble. When he asks “Oh? Really?”, Selina throws a naughty smile towards the reader. Yeah yeah, lay low my ass. :D
First off, I have no idea what happened before the road trip, I don’t know why they took it or why Maggie doesn’t talk or what the purpose of all of this was because all they do is get drunk, fight an entire bar, and go back. No idea what that accomplished. And I feel sorry for the car because it was so gorgeous. Anyway, I am happy to say that Ram V has a great writing style! He gave a good voice to Selina, it sounded very natural and like a human would talk, no forced exposition or fake deepness.
The art was good, there were a few expressive faces and the bar fight was well executed.
5/10 (because I don’t know the context)
Story #10: The Art of Picking A Lock by Ed Brubaker
Instead of ending with a transition to the next Catwoman issue (which I would have preferred), the collection offers one more story and it’s written by the man who successfully handled the second half of Selina’s first solo run. He turned her stories more into the film noir direction and gave her sidekicks. The run also gave her a fugly suit and made her have sex with old men and Brubaker wanted to kill her off and have her not know who the father to her unborn child was so... yeah, I’m torn about that guy.
The last story shows us Catwoman breaking into a warehouse full of Joker goons while thinking about the thrill of breaking locks and how she learned how to do it when she was at a juvenile detention center. She beats them all up and demands to know where “he” is. Later, her friend Holly is on a motorcycle chasing after a cab while Catwoman is riding on top of a subway. Both reach Gotham’s harbor. We see that the cab is filled with Joker gas and the driver is laughing maniacally. Holly can’t reach the cab in time and it drives off into the water. Catwoman swings down and jumps after it. She breaks the trunk open and reveals a handcuffed Slam Bradley. Cut to the three back on dry land. Holly chides him for going after Joker alone and not waiting for backup. He admits that it was dumb, then shares intel on where Joker will strike and Selina should tell “her friend.” She says she will and Slam ends the book with the words that he could really use a cigarette. NO, this book was not that good that it would warrant a cigarette at the end!
This short obviously takes place during the second half of the first solo run. We see Catwoman in action, that’s cool. Taking down almost a dozen of armed Joker henchmen, that’s pretty badass! And a woman saves the man damsel in distress at the end, that’s a nice ending as well. However, I don’t care about the costume so the visual appeal wasn’t there and I really don’t care about Slam Bradley so the reveal at the end was pretty ugh to me.
The art is great! It’s like a modernised/smoother version of Darwyn Cooke’s style, the artist Brubaker worked on the Catwoman title in the 00s with. So that gives it a pretty nostalgic feel.
5/10
In addition to the 10 stories we’ve now covered, there are pages to show off the Catwoman costumes of each decade as well as pinups. The costume pages are designed in the decade’s style (the 40s are black and white, the 60s psychedelic etc). But what I don’t get about the 90s one: It’s purple Catwoman grayed out in the background and gray BTAS Catwoman in color in the foreground - why make the purple outfit gray when you have an already gray outfit?! Just switch them! Also who put together the 70s one, couldn’t they find better costume examples?!
The seven pinups are pretty, unfortunately the majority feature the black outfits. I was surprised that even Tim Sale drew the black costume and not the purple one from his Long Halloween series. We get one of the gray BTAS costume and Jim Balent thankfully gives us BatCat with his purple creation. Nice!
Well, looking back at my personal scores for this collection of stories, Catwoman’s anniversary issue reached a total of 44/100 points in my book. Wow. That’s... not that good.
Most of the stories ranged from average to bad. Nothing spectacular, nothing memorable. There’s a lack of witty dialogue, Catwoman’s rarely fun to watch. In six stories she’s seen fighting, in three she’s seen being chased so I’m missing the variety here. I would assume you can do more with Catwoman than that. She often rather fights instead of using her wits and smarts. And actual cats are only featured in two stories but in one they die and in the other, Selina says she should drown them. -_-
A collection of 10 new stories was a great idea but celebrating the character this is not. I’m happy that the next writer for Catwoman left a positive impression on me and the story feat. Balent’s Catwoman was a delight. However, the writers didn’t really bring their “A” game for this anniversary issue which is disappointing.
Would I recommend it? Hmmm. It pains me to say: not really, no. You don’t miss much by skipping it. You don’t miss sassy lines or breathtaking art, you don’t miss out on funny scenes or emotional depth. This anniversary issue is merely average and I highly doubt I’ll go back to reread it.
(a huge THANK YOU to everyone who read this entire, way too long post! i highly appreciate it 💜you’re a real trooper!)

I went to visit my family for Thanksgiving, and as usual, I was confronted with numerous blue pill beliefs. While I’m no longer annoyed by these things, because I’ve gone through the “Return Journey” phase of swallowing the red pill, I did notice something that was extremely disturbing.
As I grew tired of arguing over basic political, economic, and gender points, I meandered downstairs to my family’s recreation room. There was a group of my younger relatives, aged 16-20, watching some show on Netflix about trans-gendered individuals.
I don’t know what the show was called, but one thing that really struck me was the show’s uncanny ability to use emotionally charged scenes and drama to elicit a feeling of compassion for the characters. In other words, numerous TV shows are now starting to take advantage of our natural empathy, and using it to sway our political and social opinions.
Emotionally Gripping
Tumblr media
As I stood behind the couch watching a few minutes of this transgender show, I saw a very heart wrenching scene take place. Although the nuances of the story line were lost to me, I gathered enough information to see what was going on.
Basically, some guy was getting surgery to turn into a woman. As he was in the operating room, something went terribly wrong, and despite the surgeons’ desperate attempts to save him, he ended up perishing.
The following scene was comprised of extremely grief-inducing piano music played to various clips of the man’s children all mourning their loss. While this may seem innocuous, or like it’s just “creative, dramatic television,” I believe that it’s actually something far more sinister.
What’s going on here, is that the elites (because remember, this is a top down operation) are trying to traumatize the average American youth with images of the “horrors that transgender people go through!” They’re using television to create these emotional “triggers,” if you will, that will be ignited anytime someone says something against transgenders.
In other words, the trauma that occurs from becoming engrossed in this TV show (in our example) leaves an emotional residue of sorts, so that whenever the topic of transgenderism is brought up in conversation, the viewer subconsciously remembers the emotions associated with the topic which the TV show implanted into his mind.
Emotional Triggers
Tumblr media
This became abundantly clear to me as I was arguing with a friend from the West Coast over transgenderism. I very calmly said that I believe it’s a mental illness, and should be treated as such. I said that these people need help, and we shouldn’t encourage them. I backed my assertion by referencing how the chief psychologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital has vehemently called out doctors who perform transgender surgeries as “collaborating with a mental illness for profit.”
Despite my calm and collected assertions, she grew EXTREMELY emotional and automatically assumed a whole host of things about me:
I’m a disgusting, careless sociopath
I have no sympathy for others’ suffering and I’m a cold-hearted bastard
I vehemently hate anyone who’s different than me
Despite the fact that none of these things are true, it became clear to me why she automatically believed this about me: the TV shows that she watches had been subtly implanting little emotional biases into her brain. This is how manipulative our “real” media is.
What happened, in psychological terms, was that as I was calmly explaining my perspective on transgenderism, her subconscious was flooded with all of the EMOTIONS that she associates with the topic:
All of the pain and grief she experienced from TV shows depicting transgender “issues”
How Bruce Jenner is a “hero,” and how much mainstream “opposition” he encountered when coming out
All of the anger she experienced when the token “anti-transgender person” in each show was a huge dick to the main character (more on this in the next section)
All rational thought was completely stopped, as she had literally been trained to elicit a certain response whenever the topic of transgenderism is brought up. Do you see my point? By repeatedly exposing people to scenes that elicit sympathy for transgenders, the media is engineering a widespread social response in favor of it.
Token Characters
Tumblr media
As I alluded to before, another underhanded tactic that mainstream TV shows use is that they never have a rational, level-headed man who supports traditional marriage and normal heterosexuality. Any time someone in mainstream media doesn’t support the main character’s disorder, he’s always portrayed as a complete asshole.
This can take the form of him beating up the main character, bullying the main character, or what have you. I recall several years ago there was ample talk at the work place over some “anti-homosexual” character in glee that smothered a smoothie onto a guy just because he was homosexual, or something ridiculous like that.
Despite the fact that NOBODY I know would do something like this, the elite-sponsored TV utilizes token characters in order to implant a certain idea into our heads—the idea that everyone who opposes deviant sexual orientations is a cold-hearted bully. I recall that this was pointed out to me by a Catholic high school teacher, and it didn’t make any sense to me back then (before homosexuality was normal).
Now, in retrospect, I’m extremely thankful that he planted that seed in my class’s mind. The more that I look at television through this lens, the more I see what he was talking about. There’s never a level-headed, confident, genuine man that has game, either. It’s always either a completely meek beta male, or a chauvinistic “bad boy” Hank-Moody type character (although I do love me some Hank Moody).
This phenomena is taken even further as the transgender or homosexual person in mainstream TV is almost always portrayed as some brave, sweet, sensitive soul, with a hard life. In other words, the elites are engineering a dichotomy as Roosh has referenced before.
The dichotomy is that you’re either a sweet, empathetic, gentle-hearted person who supports transgenderism and deviant sexual preferences, or you’re a complete asshole who bullies and berates people just because “you’re mean.” This use of labeling brainwashes others into IMMEDIATELY putting you into the “sociopathic jerk” category if you don’t support transgenderism, making any and all rational discourse folly.
Subtle Desensitization
Tumblr media
Another terrifying event that comes to mind of the media’s disgusting methods was when I was watching a popular kid’s TV show known as “Adventure Time,” a year or two ago. Again, I was with my family for some holiday event (I can’t remember which), and recall some of the kids watching this show.
Despite the fact that it’s labeled as a kid’s show, I saw an insidious little dialogue take place that was meant to desensitize children to pedophilia. In the show, there was some ball going on (I assume it was like a “prom” type deal), and the old wizard was looking for a partner.
He ended up going with some underage girl, who was probably 60 years his prior, and when the main character pointed this out, the old wizard simply stated: “Age…is nothing but a number!” Upon which the characters started dancing and doing comical things to prevent any sort of rational thought occurring after this was said.
After seeing this I became extremely disgusted and turned off the television, but that’s beyond the point. Why is this type of dribble being used to brainwash our youth? Anyone with half a brain can see that the point behind this scene was to start subtly implanting the seeds of pedophilia into a child’s mind.
Again, the words of my wise old Catholic high school teacher come to mind. I’ll never forget when he told me that “in 15 years, pedophilia will become normal.” My entire class was shocked, and couldn’t comprehend such a thing happening. He said this in 2009, and it seems that his prediction is coming true.
“First it will start with the media,” he said. “They’ll have some show where they make jokes about it and they’ll keep the humor very lighthearted, never showing the actual act. They’ll begin the process of desensitizing you, then eventually some politician will bring it up, and it will be an official stance that other politicians will be forced to take. This will begin the process of slowly normalizing it.”
My God was this man spot on, because this is EXACTLY how the media sways our opinions.
Keep in mind that their methods are SUBTLE, and that’s the point—they want to keep it below the level of thought so that you never question what they’re teaching you. Any time a strange or ridiculous belief is asserted, they very quickly move into a joyful scene or celebration to not only prevent you from thinking too much about the ridiculous belief, but to have you associate happiness with it, as well, which brings me to my next point.
Association And Correlation Bias
Tumblr media
There’s a very powerful phenomena in psychology known as association; this is sometimes also called the correlation bias, or “Illusory Correlation.” This is basically your mind’s tendency to look for relationships where there aren’t any.
For example, why do you think most modern girls aren’t girlfriend material? Why do you think that the average man is weak, pathetic, and emasculated? It’s because of the media’s tendency to slowly create illusory associations within your mind.
The media causes women to associate happiness and a successful life with the following:
Being a man-hating feminist, who can’t submit to a strong, confident man
Not cooking or cleaning, because that’s “sexist”
Riding the alpha male cock carousel, and not getting married, because marriage is “oppressive”
The media creates a false correlation in women’s minds by constantly portraying bitchy, overly-masculine, slutty women as being empowered, sought-after, and happy. As any man who’s been learning game knows, this is absolute nonsense.
It doesn’t matter, though—once your brain has an association, it’s extremely difficult to get rid of it. This is why so many men are emasculated nowadays. It teaches us to associate:
Being a weak bitch with getting a hot girlfriend
Being a feminist and leftist with having girls think you’re noble and heroic
Courting a slut with being a gentleman
As any modern man who reads the manosphere knows, these are completely fallacious beliefs. Being a weak, low-testosterone man will not in fact land you the girls. Being a screaming leftist who holds those “I’m a feminist because,” signs will not get you the approval of women, and courting a washed up slut does not make you a gentleman (it makes you stupid).
Despite the obvious illogical nature of these beliefs, because the mainstream media has 8 hours a day to indoctrinate us, most men end up buying into them wholeheartedly, and will even berate you for having game when you CLEARLY get more women than them.
“So What Can I Do?”
Tumblr media
First things first, stop watching mainstream media. In case you haven’t noticed, the MSM is starting to feel the effects of men waking up; in fact, they’ve recently gone on a long, drawn-out tirade about “fake news,” or in other words, news that is red-pilled.
I haven’t watched mainstream media EVER—the only time that I ever watch MSM is if they’re interviewing a pickup artist, a manosphere blogger, or if I’m trying to debunk their ludicrous reporting. I get almost all of my news from sites like ROK, Danger And Play, Info Wars, Natural News, and the people that I follow on Twitter.
In addition to only consuming a red-pilled information diet, ensure that your children don’t watch TV unarmed. I saw a phenomenal post recently on “How to Raise Red-Pilled Daughters,” and the ROK author talks about how he doesn’t flat out ban TV, but rather teaches his daughters to think rationally and learn to see the foolishness of MSM.
Aside from not watching MSM and raising your family to be skeptical of it, you can also support alternative media sites by simply tuning in. You don’t have to buy any of their products (although it helps); simply giving them your attention and leaving a thoughtful comment or two is enough to generate interest.
All in all, we’re facing extremely tumultuous times. More and more people are starting to break free of the MSM’s grip on their mind, but the men who get left behind end up more brainwashed than ever. Eventually, once the MSM dies, we can begin the long and arduous process of reclaiming our country—and this, my friends, is something I believe is worth fighting for.

When I was making a purchase at my local bookstore last week, the cashier solicited me for a donation. This donation was for a charity dealing with sick children or something. I told cashier I came here to buy a book not make donations. I guess she realized I am not one to be guilt tripped into doing things and told me that many people do not have the courage to say no. This pressure to comply due to emotional appeal has run rampant in America. When people make decisions on how they feel or manipulated by their feelings, not many good things can come of it.
Usually I do not delve into the details of the various schemes and manipulations that powerful people do in order to influence people’s behaviors. Someone actually fact checked one sales pitch for the limitation of guns. This exercise in breaking down an argument outside of the emotional shows that emotion is all it has. While the premise is guns, the method is pure emotional appeal.
Tumblr media
The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg has decided to throw his hat in, as well as his capital, in a political fight against the NRA by spending an estimated fifty million dollars to start up Everytown for Gun Safety @ Everytown.org. If you go to his website, one of the articles pops out on the front page is an “analysis” of the over sixty “school shootings” that have taken place since the Newtown massacre on December 12th, 2012.
Tumblr media
In this era of political rhetoric and ideological echo-chambers, there is little in the way of fact-checking and realism with statistical data. The media is off  panicking the masses of soccer moms and metrosexual dads that mass shootings are a growing epidemic, apparently none of whom look at the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports of homicides every year. Of the sixty-two incidents on Everytown’s “analysis”, only one can be classified as a mass murder. The FBI is quite clear that a “mass murder” involves the homicide of four or more individuals with no cooling off period between the murders. The article would lead readers to believe that there have been sixty-two incidents of similar scope as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. But this is simply not the case.
With a total combined death toll between the sixty-two “school shootings” of 39, it’s hard to match them up to Newtown, which in one incident saw 28 deaths, including the perpetrator, Adam Lanza. Despite what the media might portray for politics, ratings, or profit, such shootings are exceptionally rare. Of course, a large amount of the focus is on the AR-15 reportedly used, the  gun control advocates would like gullible Americans to think without which Adam Lanza would not have been capable of such carnage. But if you remember the Virginia Tech shooting on April 16th, 2007. Seung-Hui Cho managed to kill 32 people, then himself, with nothing more than a .22LR caliber Walther P22 and 9mm Glock 19; the Walther with a magazine capacity of ten rounds and the Glock a bit more at fifteen. There is little discussion of firearms in the Everytown analysis, probably because they are virtually all handguns or the suggested firearm for home defense of Vice President Joe Biden, a shotgun.
Let’s look at that the lack of analysis this “analysis” gives us, as it’s little more than a picture of a crying woman and a list of schools at which a firearm was discharged on or nearby campus grounds since December 2012. Thirty-nine people dead, because of school shootings, between December 13th, 2012 and mid-April 2014. It’s hard to find statistics for causes of death even near that number. The United States averages roughly 51 deaths due to lightning strikes per year, over the last 20 years; according to NOAA. According to the CDC, there was an average of 3,533 unintentional drownings per year for the years of 2005-2009. Yet where is a politically motivated and affluent billionaire to launch a safety campaign outlining the dangers of pools or thunderstorms?
Tumblr media
The fact that Mayor Bloomberg has taken Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s now infamous quote “never let a good crisis go to waste” to heart, is no surprise. But who thinks about the political realities of why someone is making moves against one of the GOP’s biggest political lobbies, using a tragedy like Newtown as the crest on their flag; when they are busy being emotionally compromised by the idea of children being gunned down in their school classrooms?
Tumblr media
Among the 39 deaths, there is a justified case of self-defense, a possible case of self-defense, and seven cases of nothing more then suicides by firearm. The biggest trend among these “school shootings” is the shooters and victims are young black men. This reality is in stark contrast to the media image of upper-class white elementary school kids gunned down by socially awkward psychopaths with AR-15’s or other “assault weapons”. Few if any of the mainstream gun safety campaigns reflect the reality of gun violence. Remember, you are more likely to be killed by bee stings than you are to be shot on or around a school campus.
In conclusion, this emotional appeal by Mr. Bloomberg seems to be all about coercing a population into following his politics through emotional appeal. His advocacy gives them an audience of motivated people controlled by their emotions. What could a powerful person do with this audience aside from campaign against guns. I signed up at this website to get the newsletter. This newsletter only talks about political activism for those that seem to not be able to make up their own mind. Be aware of those that appeal to your emotion, because they may not appeal to your interests.

Note
You keep saying certain trends need to be removed from the progressive movement, which ones?
1) Conspiracy theorists, this just fucking murders leftism, because it makes people unwilling to accept new information, which means they just inevitably slide into bad places.  See also Rosanne.  This goes for anti vaxxers, Truthers, people who get into the “Israel Lobby” too much but also just general conspiratorial thinking.  I see a lot of people talking about “The DNC” or “The Media” in terms that are more conspiratorial than factual, and have trouble understanding literally how things work.  Which not only makes people unable to really understand WTF is going on, it also feeds into Right wing thinking.  If Sanders fans are already acting as if “The mainstream Media” is one single unified entity secretly controlled by a cabal of capitalists and so you can just dismiss what it has to say*, it is pretty easy for the Right to justify their own narrative that any media that isn’t Fox News/Brietbart/Drudge Report is a single unified entity with a liberal bias secretly controlled by Jews (or George Soros if they want to hide their true intentions)
* Their are certain biases and issues that are shared by the media, but these are more structural systemic issues rather than deliberate efforts by specific individuals.  There are specific networks/newspapers which are purely propaganda piece but that doesn’t apply to the entire media.  Or to put it another way.  Jeff Bezos owning the Washington Post does influence its content, but they don’t just get their marching orders from him.
2) No tolerance for bigotry.  This should be obvious but it is remarkable how people who are progressive in on issue (class, gender, race, sexuality) are super intolerant in other respects.  In this primary we see this with the dirtbag left and their class reductionist tendencies where they are pretty left wing in regardless to class, but super racist/sexist/homophobic in every other respect.  or how TERFs are pretty good in terms of fighting women’s oppression, but are vile when it comes to the rights of Trans people.  Or Black Nationalists tendency towards antisemitism and misogyny, or Zionists tendency towards Islamaphobia.  People who are marginalized often have a difficult time recognizing others who are marginalized, doubly so if it involves recognizing a certain privilege they do in fact posses (black men, white homosexuals, straight women the list goes on).  The left really  needs to get better at making intersectionality a reality of its practice rather than a tool of rhetoric.
3) Drop the romantic revolutionary Aethetic The Left gets really into these 60s images of everybody overthrowing the stodgy all establishment and embracing a new exciting world.  And these always crash because its less about the practical reality of actually fixing problems and more about the image of rebelling.  Its like how Rock n Roll did totally overturn the status quo when it first came into the stage, but very quickly became a form of conservatism in its own right.
Basically end the Leftist cool kids club. I’m really sick of leftists who seem to get into leftist thought primarily to give them a lenses to look down on people but not do anything about it, the Marxistdude bro approach
It also is self destructive because it leads to the left being like...reluctant to persuade people to our side which is just self destructive (see also Sanders 2020 campaign)
4) Stop stanning dictators and being nostalgic for autocracy.  It is so very frustrating to see people outraged over the US use of torture (as you should be) but being apologists for Assad.  I am very tired of seeing leftists argue against holocaust Denial and then being like “oh but Stalin wasn’t that bad actually”.
5) Fucking Moral Cholesterol nonsense, purity fixations are autocannibalism
6) No embrace of Gamergate tactics.  Doxxing is wrong regardless of the target.  Bullying, abuse, harassment is wrong even if the victim is an absolute shit head.  Actually I take this further to murder and torture.  We are the side who oppose police brutality, advocate prison reform and oppose war crimes, we shouldn’t be falling into this nonsense.
7) No anti intellectualism.  The world is complicated, huge, and nuanced, there isn’t a single source of evil for everything wrong with the world, human beings can be bad in one element and good in another, and we aren’t following the narrative of a drama.  The Right’s values are anti intellectuals we need to stop following their lead but just reversing the scripts

A rant about online toxicity.
This is not going to be a fun post. Lately, my life seems like a cave with no real exit and I need a stress relief.
I’m going to be talking about my problems with the internet and how people use it specifically when it comes to the media.
Let’s start with this, you are not entitled to a creator’s time. You are not entitled to their attention or anything of the sort.
Fictional stories are important to people, but the shit that people do over them is stupid and petty.
The creator’s of a product have enough on their plates without dealing with your petty bullshit about how this small detail makes their story shit.
NITPICKS ARE NOT CRITICISMS! This is one of the DUMBEST misconceptions I have heard in my fucking life. Right up there with the idea that video games should cost more than $60.
YOUR OPINION IS NOT OBJECTIVE! THERE ARE MULTIPLE VIEWPOINTS ON A PIECE OF MEDIA!
I’m so sick and fucking tired of seeing assholes act like their opinion is the gospel.
Let’s move on to the most disgusting aspect of all this, sending death threats.
NEVER DO THAT! IT’S A STUPID, AWFUL, AND DISGUSTING!
Someone made something you didn’t like? Okay, but that’s not ground to attack them!
Criticize some things that happened in the stories, but NEVER attack people. IT’S WRONG!
Let’s now move on to the fun topic of politics in the media.
Most dipshits don’t understand that a character that is black or gay or whatever is not political. Not directly anyway.
Political means governments and laws and that kinda shit.
A lot of people will bitch and moan that something is political when the only thing that’s political is a very indirect link.
Maybe, but the other side isn’t much better.
Just because a story has a POC, female, or LGBT+ person does not make it appeal to a general audience! There needs to be more than that!
I’ve seen so much bullshit about this.
“We’re Ghostbusters 2016 and you’re sexist for not liking us!”
“We’re Birds of Prey and the Fabulous Emancipations of One Harley Quinn and you’re sexist or racist for not liking us!”
Congrats! You’re a dipshit who has made the battle for rep in the media HARDER!
Being a douche and saying that a product failed because it was led by minorities is going to make corporate hacks think that minorities are poison for them.
WAY TO BE PROGRESSIVE GUYS!
Now let’s talk about Voltron and She-Ra shall we?
Because someone made a bad joke with a very, very, very, very small racist implication or a story uses a problematic trope does not give you grounds to harass people.
Voltron introduced a gay character and killed him off without much screentime. That is a bad thing. That is something to criticize.
What it is not grounds for is sending death threats and harassing people.
Discourage that kind of stuff. Both problematic tropes and harassment.
Noelle Stevenson and the Crew-Ra made a….kinda sorta joke about Bow having a brother who runs a farm.
They gave him a fairly stereotypical design and a bad name.
You wanna know how the internet reacted? It trended on twitter.
I’m willing to bet money that most of the people who bombed Noelle were mostly white teenagers wanting to feel like they were fighting something they needed to without fighting something they actually needed to fight.
It was a bad take, but I don’t condone harassing people over it.
DO NOT HARASS PEOPLE OVER THIS KIND OF STUFF!
It was a mistake. A bad take. Criticize, but don’t harass.
It especially bothers me when these people give these people infamy and shit, when people like Butch Hartmen and J.K. Rowling get off basically scott free.
It pisses me off.
It also raises a good question.
If all people are gonna get for fighting for rep is nothing but crap, why should any writer fight at all?
The entitlement of the internet has made me think that maybe we’d be better off if nobody ever fought for rep ever.
Especially since a good chunk of these cases were outside of the creator’s control.
Why was Korrasami just a hand hold? Because Nick wouldn’t let Bryke develop the pairing and let them kiss.
Why did the character in Voltron die? Because of the studio.
Most of these people who harass over these small details don’t understand that it is a fight to get rep and that kind of stuff.
If you want an example for rep that upsets me. I do wish that Korrasami got to kiss and I absolutely despise the show Atypical because of how badly portrays Autism.
Let’s talk about harassing people over opinion.
Never do this. Some people are just not interested and that’s okay.
All you’re doing when you do this is making you, the fanbase, and the work look bad.
I guess this is relevant to ship wars.
Ship wars are probably the worst things on the internet.
It has done nothing, but led to harassment.
The one question I ask when this kinda shit happens is this. Why? Why are people making such a stink over romantic pairings.?
I don’t know and, at this point, I don’t think I want the answer.
I’m just so tired of all this bullshit.
Please explain to me what I should do about this. Yeah, I know. ‘Just get off the internet if you can’t deal with these people.’
Which might hold weight if we weren’t in the middle of a fucking pandemic or, ya know, most people’s lives revolve around the internet.
If you honestly think advice like ‘Get off the internet’, ‘Don’t feed the trolls’, or any of that shit is valid advice. You’re wrong. Plain and simple.
Remember that there is a person on the other side of the screen.
I’m done here.

Feminine and feminist cinema.
House of Hummingbird: the main character, Eunhee, was in eighth grade in 1994, which is to say she -- and Kim Bo-ra, the director -- are nearly exactly my age. It’s a sensitive, Proustian evocation of a ‘90s South Korean female adolescence, parts of which I relate to (those pagers!), parts of which I knew nothing about (one date chyron I won’t spoiler, that drew gasps from the audience), and parts of which are evergreen (dysfunctional Asian families where the only love languages are verbal abuse and food, and emotional support is non-existent even for favoured first sons). The sporadic outbursts of domestic violence, in particular, are so true to life as to be triggering; it made me think of people IRL to whom I’d only recommend the film with a warning. The actors are all very good but the one I’ll think back to is Kim Sae-byuk, who plays Eunhee’s mysterious yet relatable Chinese tutor and imbues the supporting character with a vast sense of inner life. The camera watches her face and you feel what she’s feeling for this girl, from the other side of the unidirectional gulf that is the Tired Adult(tm) looking upon an eighth grader much like she once was.
21st Century Girl: a thematic omnibus of short films commissioned from emerging female Japanese filmmakers, each of which has to be about love, gender, or sexuality in some way. One does what one can with the running time: some oblique love stories, some LGBT themes, some in media res snippets of what might eventually end up as feature-lengths with a beginning and an end, lots and lots of photographic montage and manifestos in voiceover. I liked “Your Sheet,” a gender-fluid erotic story that was also the most successful bit of standalone short fiction, and the rom-com concept of “Sex-less Sex-friends.”
Dare to Stop Us: for once I would have liked a Q&A session with the director and writer, because I have questions. The film is a dramatization of the late ‘60s-early ‘70s imperial period of Wakamatsu Studios, the “pink film” (experimentally x-rated, but also raging leftist pink-o) outfit founded by Wakamatsu Koji, an enfant terrible of Japanese cinema who used to be yakuza and purportedly turned to film so he could kill off cops without getting arrested. The main character is Megumi, a hippie girl who joins the studio at the age of 21 and works her way up to first AD within the year, not least due to the other ADs quitting. Megumi comes off as a designated-naif entry-point POV, possibly -- I thought -- a composite of women who worked for Wakamatsu, and the arc of her story seemed to bend toward surviving (gender-neutral) workplace hazing and becoming a successful indie director in her own right, as Wakamatsu promises when he hires her. Spoilers: she is not a composite! She existed, and what happens to her is gut-wrenching! It’s a rug-pull, honestly, especially since the director Kazuya Shiraishi worked with Wakamatsu and the initial vibe is “feel-good biopic of characters and environment I have huge nostalgic affection for.” In retrospect, one has to conclude he was half making that movie, half interrogating how the guerrilla filmmaking milieu can chew up the people who love it most, and is particularly unforgiving to women even when their bosses and peers aren’t overtly sexist.
(I also have questions about the slickly urbane portrayal of Oshima Nagisa, sitting in a cafe with his sunglasses telling Wakamatsu not to push his pro-Palestinian documentary too hard because the film world is “run by Jews,” because hoo boy was that a Moment.)

Daredevil 101: The King of Hell’s Kitchen
And we’re back! Last time, Matt beat the crap out of Fisk, unmasked in Josie’s, and declared himself the new Kingpin. We pick up a year later, with Ben explaining to an unseen companion at a diner just what’s been going on for the past twelve months. This is gonna be a long one, guys, sorry. (Bendis/Maleev, DD v2 #56-60.)
[Content Warning: There is a passing reference to Squirrel Hill, as in the Pittsburgh neighborhood - no connection to the recent tragedy there, as this comic is about 15 years old. I just didn’t want anyone blindsided.]
Tumblr media
Basically, despite Matt unmasking in front of a room full of criminals, everyone is too terrified of him to actually admit that they saw his face, which means that he’s been able to keep up the double life game, even though fewer people than ever believe he’s not Daredevil anymore. This is all stuff Ben has gathered through hearsay, since Matt told him to stay away for his own protection and they haven’t spoken directly since before Josie’s.
Matt even had time to grow a horrible goatee!
Tumblr media
It’s SO BAD, MATTHEW, WHY.
He also won his lawsuit against that one tabloid, meaning that currently, in the eyes of the court, Matt Murdock is not Daredevil. He donated the enormous amount of money he won to neighborhood charities. Please note this line: “See, Matt’s new girlfriend, Milla Donovan, actually works at the Hell’s Kitchen housing commission.” Just hold onto that for a minute.
Matt’s so popular, in fact, he’s approached to run for mayor!
Tumblr media
“I am dizzy from you.” Wow, Franklin. WOW.
Not everyone is happy with Matt’s recent choices, though, as evidenced by an intervention from some of the local superheroes:
Tumblr media
Do you think Luke got all the way to that fourth panel before realizing he was the only one here without an alliterative name and felt suddenly self-conscious? Do you think he had a split second of “Should I try to go by Carl Cage just for right now? Could I pull it off?”
Anyway one of the things I really love about Maleev’s art is the specificity of his...well, either photo referencing or just drawing from life. I could take you to the exact spot they’re standing in Bryant Park. (It’s a logical meeting place for this group, too, since it’s centrally located and walking distance from - but not inside - Hell’s Kitchen.)
Anyway, the others are pissed because Matt saying “Get out of Hell’s Kitchen!” to criminals just...made them do crime above 59th Street and below 34th, which was a pretty foregone conclusion. Matt’s unsympathetic:
Tumblr media
Who wants to tell Matt that Hell’s Kitchen, Harlem, and the Village are all in Manhattan and his little plan here doesn’t make sense? Like, Matt and Luke covering neighborhoods while the other three, who can travel further and faster, cover the city as a whole, does make sense, but also “go do crime over there” doesn’t stop crime. As Peter points out, while wearing a very strange facial expression.
But Matt ignores the warnings, and ignores the growing tension in Hell’s Kitchen, and then, just a few days before Ben’s telling this story, he and Milla are attacked by like a hundred Yakuza assassins. He sends Milla running for safety...and hasn’t been seen since. And that’s all Ben knows.
And that’s when we see who he’s been talking to:
Tumblr media
I want to clarify that Ben’s explanation of the past year of events has taken two full issues. That’s like five bucks worth of comics that is Ben mansplaining Milla’s own recent history to her, including explaining to her what her job is. They should have killed 616 Ben instead, Jesus.
Also, Milla and Matt are married! Hey, how about that?! She goes on to explain to a stunned Ben (who, I guess, didn’t ask her any questions before he started talking for two entire months holy shit Ben what is wrong with you) that they got married about four months ago, and we later learn that Milla’s the one who proposed. So she proposed to a man she’d known for eight months, who is...sort of a crime boss? An anti-crime boss? Anyway, keep that in your pocket for a bit.
(I’m sorry, I’m still so angry about these two issues. Anyone who wants to hear me rant about decompression, the ask box is open.)
Tumblr media
Uh, Milla, that’s not a compliment. You want Matt to be in love with you as a human being, not the abstract concept of you as a conglomeration of eight million people and island real estate.
Anyway, Matt told Milla that if anything went wrong, she should contact Ben. She and Ben are both baffled by this, so Ben goes to see the actual person most likely to know where Matt is:
Tumblr media
Take the money and just make shit up, Fogy! Anyway my poor beautiful tired boy has no idea where Matt is, and is also rather wounded that Matt had a contingency plan in place for Milla but a) not for Foggy and b) didn’t tell Foggy about it. Especially since the Yakuza are out in full force and Foggy has been sleeping in his office because he can’t safely leave it.
Tumblr media
My heart. Foggy has never really gotten to grieve on page for Karen, given that he was in jail for her funeral, but he knew her as long as Matt did (technically slightly longer) and he loved her too.
Ben tracks Matt to the Night Nurse (who, remember, is not Claire Temple in the comics) and floats a new theory by him:
Tumblr media
I’m very sorry Matt but i can’t take you seriously with that facial hair.
Matt stops crying long enough to deny it, but by now Ben knows he’s right:
Tumblr media
I’m...pretty sure this is the first time someone has seriously said: “Matt, your behaviors are unhealthy and I’m concerned about your mental health.” And, like, itemized them (including explicitly saying that flaking on Foggy and leaving him in these crisis situations is cruel!). People have said “you’re crazy” or “you’re being a jerk” but it’s always been said in anger. This is uncompromising but compassionate. This is “a terrible thing happened to you and I know that you’re still in pain.” No wonder Matt cries.
And Matt’s not the only one who’s listening:
Tumblr media
Wow, Foggy has a good memory. And the face of a man who is contextualizing the past few years of his life and doesn’t like what he sees.
(A+ for the frazzle of of hat hair, Maleev.)
Matt goes to a safehouse. Foggy goes...somewhere undetermined. A spa? Everyone gets naked:
Tumblr media
No, seriously, I have no idea why everyone needed to be SO NAKED in this scene (although I’m not complaining). Anyway please enjoy FOGGY’S TATTOO (WHAT???) and also Matt calling him both “Franklin” and “good boy” in a single page.
If you want to, like, read the actual words and pay attention to plot, I GUESS, Matt promises to deal with the Yakuza situation. Foggy’s still not happy:
Tumblr media
YES I HAD TO INCLUDE THIS DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD, IT’S IMPORTANT. Text if you can’t embiggen:
Matt: Are you breaking up with me?
Foggy: I don’t think you’ll let me.
Matt: I need you, Foggy. I’ll fix this. I’ll make it right.
Foggy: Yeah, okay. So just do what you have to do.
Matt: I need you to bring me something to wear.
Foggy: Something red?
Matt: It’s red?
Foggy: What?
Matt: I thought it was yellow.
Foggy: ...Are you serious?
Matt: No.
Foggy: That was pretty funny.
IT IS A VERY GOOD AND IMPORTANT EXCHANGE and it is only slightly marred by Milla draped in silent nakedness over Matt the whole time because...of reasons? Ugh.
Matt goes to get backup and finds himself being dragged for like the third time in 24 hours:
Tumblr media
Haha! Pregnant women! So hysterical about being lied to by their friends and employers who they are risking their lives for! Hormones, fellas, amirite???! LOL.
(Seriously, fuck this shit.)
Anyway. Main Yakuza Dude Whose Name I Forget is still pretty confident about moving on Hell’s Kitchen now that Matt’s out of the picture:
Tumblr media
Oh man, sorry about your life, Main Yakuza Dude!
Tumblr media
“Are you guys sure you want me to do this pose? It feels more ‘boy band’ than ‘badass.’“
“Yeah, Luke, definitely!"
“Yeah? I don’t know, I kind of feel like...”
“No, dude, it works, it looks totally cool, I promise!”
They beat up the Yakuza. Meanwhile, Foggy joins Milla at the safehouse:
Tumblr media
Why is Milla still in her underwear???????????????? #cancelmen
When Matt returns to the safehouse after defeating the Yakuza, Foggy is gone, and Milla is finally dressed...and very unhappy. She tells him what Foggy told her:
Tumblr media
Here are the things that jump out at me about this page:
1. Milla says “this Karen Page person,” which implies that she has rarely or never heard Karen mentioned before. Considering that Matt (and Foggy!) knew Karen for, as Ben pointed out, almost all of his adult life, and that she was intrinsically tied not just to Matt (and Foggy!) but Daredevil and Nelson and Murdock, this is stunning. How do you spend a year with your wife and almost never mention someone you were intimately close to for at least a decade? I know Matt is secretive by nature, but this makes me think that Matt and Milla essentially never had any real or deep communication. Which, honestly, checks out.
2. We don’t see the conversation between Milla and Foggy. Theoretically, he could have said “LOLOLOL MATT NEVER LOVED YOU HE STILL LOVES MY DEAD FRIEND SUCK IT” but that seems...out of character, to say the least. I suspect, given how confused and distressed Milla is, that he said something more like “I think the reason Matt is acting like this is because he is still processing his trauma over the death of someone he loved very much.” Which shouldn’t be a surprise to Milla, considering that one of the very first things Matt told her was “Two women I loved have been murdered.” But apparently this is a great betrayal somehow??? Because:
Tumblr media
And this is why I just can’t with Milla. So much of what doesn’t work with her character, like the thin personality and the helplessness and the fact that she’s IN HER UNDERWEAR ALL THE TIME FOR NO REASON, is because of sexist writing and drawing, and I’m not laying that at her feet. And I’ll be the first person to declare that Matt Murdock is a shitty boyfriend/partner and has been to literally every single woman he’s dated.
But the compassionate response to “the person I love is having a nervous breakdown because he lost someone he cared about” is not to scream “SHUT UP!!!” and accuse him of lying. I’m not married but I’m preeeeeetty sure the vows don’t include “I swear that I definitely never loved anyone else and if I did, I don’t love them anymore.” Matt broke no promises here (for once!) and, as I’ve said before, Milla went on two highly dangerous dates with Matt Murdock and then he declared himself Kingpin and then she proposed. She had all the evidence she needed that life with Matt is dangerous, bizarre, and full of ethical pitfalls and the ghosts of murdered girlfriends, and as an educated, intelligent adult woman in charge of her own business, she decided to sign up. This one is absolutely not on Matt and it pisses me off that it’s treated like it is.
Anyway. *breathes*
Next up: Black Widow returns!

I told my dad I’m gay
I’m going to be honest, I expected the worst. I firmly believed I would never tell my dad about my sexuality because out of everybody in the family he was the most homophobic, sexist, and racist. I can tell you word for word phrases and jokes he’s said around me growing up that disgusted me. I was never too close to my dad because of how he was. And since he was a retired military veteran that had a collection of guns and swords in his room, I was also intimidated by him and how even in his late 60s, he can still do push-ups and pull-ups. He firmly doesn’t believe in divorce either. He has said that he would rather kill my mom than divorce her, which is ?????? fucked up coming from a guy that cheated on her and had an illegitimate son but whatever.  Anyway, considering all of these things about my father, of course I would fear the day he found out I’m gay. I told my friends, a few relatives, my siblings, and my aunt, but I could never think of confessing to my parents or grannies because of their strict traditional Catholic beliefs and high hopes that I would marry a wonderful guy and have kids (which I never consented or promised to, and they’ve all slowly come to accept that it won’t happen). My mom is putting things together about my sexuality, but doesn’t encourage it, neither does my aunt. Everyone else in my life that knows is super supportive and accepting of it though and that’s a blessing!  Since I’m close to graduating from college, it seems that I am drifting away from my family and am making a life for myself away from home. Every time I had to visit my family, my parents would really strain my mental health and self-esteem, and I couldn’t defend myself without fearing the worst and breaking down. And this year it’s been the worst because I am in a relationship with a girl. I hate that it has come to this, but I don’t want to ignore and pretend anymore. I’m tired of hiding something I am so proud of, or validating how my relationship is so pure and respectful when my dad has done so much worse against his own love. I was becoming so bitter and fearful and I was so done. When my dad called me, the conversation was casual “how are you” and stuff, but then. “Dad, I have a serious question to ask you.” “Okaay?” “Do you...hate my friends if they were black, gay, or not Catholic?” He sounded confused and quickly said, “No, never.” My voice was starting to crack, “It’s just, you say things about those people.” He repeated himself and explained, “No no no, those are your friends. If they’re your friends than you chose them because they’re good people. You have good people around you, baby.” I started to tear up, “I-I’ve...Dad, I’ve been afraid you would hate them, or hate me.” Then he asked me, “What do you mean? Why would I hate you for that?” I braced for myself. Instead of asking, I decided to own it. I was already crying, “Dad......I’m in a relationship with a woman.”  He paused, as if processing, then he just said, “Okay..” And I continued, telling him it’s been a few months, and it’s a great relationship development and that I’ve always been so scared that if I told him he would hate me or disown me. I told him I was scared I was going to lose my family.
His response was so unexpected. He told me, “Baby, nobody’s perfect. You’re my daughter, my baby girl, my princess. I pray for your safety, but I tell myself you’re with good people. Time’s are changing, and know that I would never abandon my daughter.” I was sobbing, shaking, as he comforted me. He didn’t even ask questions about it. He didn’t question or argue or express his feelings on the confession, which I was prepared to endure. I asked him after I gathered myself if he wanted to know anything, and he surprised me yet again saying, “No, I’ll keep you to your privacy.” Unbelievable. I told him who knew and who didn’t yet, and he said I didn’t have to tell my grandmothers. He told me to get some rest, that he loved me, that he wasn’t perfect, and since that talk it’s been a relief because he was the one I feared telling out of my whole family. I never trusted him and was often disgusted with him and his past mistakes, and after all these years, we connected in that conversation, and we spoke to each other openly as father and child where trust was present. I never imagined--never dared to hope. I told my family about what I did and what he had said and they couldn’t believe it either. It made THEM feel bad for not being as supportive considering the rest of my family dislikes my dad too. I came out to my dad even though I was terrified, and I had courage because I am proud of what I am and who I’m with. Though I know so many that do not have this fortunate situation and feel what I felt, and then being killed or outcast for it, and honestly I was ready for that. I am grateful. This is a privilege that shouldn’t be one. We have a lot of work to do, humanity.

Quran as a discourse
In this post, I am going to be dealing with parts of the Quran that are difficult to come to terms with for those who want to live with a progressive moral set and follow the no harm principle. These are also parts of the Quran that critics usually use to attack Muslims. So before doing that, let us first appreciate these beautiful verses. From Surah Al-Hujurat: "O mankind, indeed we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.". Surah Ash-Sharh: "So truly where there is hardship there is also ease".
Quran as a discourse
There is a distinction between the Quran as a scripture and the Quran as a discourse [1]. The Quran as a discourse is a conversation between the prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H), the believers and unbelievers of the time, and the divine. This conversation is a process of arguing, debating, and agreeing on issues. It is the discourse that is holy, not the text itself which is a silent record. The scripture as we know it today was codified after the prophets death by the Caliph and companion of the prophet, Uthman ( May Allah be pleased with him ) who burnt other variants. When we fail to remember the Quran is a discourse, we become slaves of literalism and idolise scripture.
The Quran (Surah Nuh 4:11) states that women should get a half of the inheritance of a man, and that the testimony of one man is worth the testimony of two women. The Quran as scripture outlook leads to taking this as a literal ruling, but taking Quran as a discourse we see an attempt to persuade the 7th century Arabs of the time to actually consider the opinions of women, and to allocate them at least some inheritance. This was in a time where new born daughters were at risk of being buried in the dessert. The literal ruling is considered sexist in modern times but it was probably a compromise with the community. Change does not happen over night, and doing things slowly and in stages seems to be a common pattern in Islam. This is shown by the Quran not being revealed overnight, but over a period of 23 years. The overarching intention of the discourse is to give women more rights. The modern consequent of this is to have equal rights. We should be looking at the intention of the discourse between the revelation and the community of the time rather than the literalistic meaning.
The Quran states that slaves should be treated fairly, that it is good to free slaves, and that it is permissible to have sex with slaves. The intention of the discourse here is not to introduce slavery into the community, it already existed. It is to make the treatment of slaves better. That is the intention of the discourse. Therefore, when reading the Quran we should not take away that slavery is ok, but instead take away that the situation should be made fairer, the most moral conclusion from that discourse that has been accepted in modern times is to ban slavery.
But what about when we can't make it work?
What about when we find something that is incompatible with our morals, and we can not find any underlying idea that pushes for greater morals as in the example of the inheritance of women? Reject it. You heard me correctly. This does not mean sticking our heads in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist. It doesn't mean that we reject the Quran itself. It just means we are playing a role in the discourse. We instead acknowledge that it was part of the discourse on what makes a moral society by 7th century standards. When we read the Quran we become a party in that discourse, and therefore we have the right to say no, this is abhorrent and not fit for societies in the 21st century.
Let us look at the following verse which may trouble you. Surah An-Nur Verse 2: "The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment." When dealing with such a verse there are three camps of Muslims:
1. Those who accept it as a literal ruling to be applied in the modern day under a legitimate Islamic State. 2. Those who desperately try to justify it by playing mental gymnastics. This commonly involves looking for different meanings of words that differ from the meanings that have been accepted by the majority of Arabs for hundreds of years. 3. Those who understand the verse to be applicable to the discourse at the time with 7th century peoples who lack the advanced moral compass we have today and therefore reject it.
We do not need to speak about the fist camp, we must be patient and wait for their condition to change whilst setting a good example. The second camp are in a sad state. There is nothing wrong with looking for hidden and metaphorical meanings, as long as you are being honest with others and more importantly yourself. But, if you are constantly jumping through hoops and making things up to justify things that don't look right, you will eventually grow tired of your own incoherence. At that stage most people either regress to fundamentalism or drift away from their Islamic identity, some becoming ex-muslims. These are the hipsters who look at a verse and say "No brother, actually the root word of this means that, and the kasra is missing, and therefore what it says it means isn't actually what it means, but instead it means a tree that has been born of a seed that has been excreted by an animal". If you are in this camp, I beg you to visit the third camp and drink tea with us. Here our religious belief is completely consistent with living with modern progressive values, without the hypocrisy. This is the only camp which has a chance of reforming societies and contributing to the development of Muslim civilisation.
I advocate for the third camp. It is practiced by millions of Muslims around the world but sadly rarely articulated or encouraged. I reject the verse above as a ruling, as it is incompatible with my conscience and moral compass, and I hope that it is also incompatible with yours. This doesn't take me out of the fold of Islam, I am simply taking part in the discourse that is the Quran. This doesn't make my prayers any less meaningful, or negatively affect my relationship with God.
There is something interesting about the third camp. We are disliked by both anti-muslim bigots and fundamental Daeshi mentality Muslims alike. The anti-muslim bigots try to make us look bad by presenting hadiths and versus about whipping fornicators, executing apostates, and stoning. When we respond with, “yes those exist, but we Muslims accept these as dated rulings and don't follow them”, the anti-muslim bigot suddenly loses his cannon fodder and has nothing left to attack us with. They hate us as we do not fit into their modal of the Muslim who is incompatible with liberal values. On the other hand, you have the Daeshi mentality Muslims who hate us for not taking everything literally. The anti-muslim bigots love these fundamentalists as they fit the mould for their propaganda. The irony. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Never be extreme regarding religion. Many nations have been destroyed before you only because of extremism in religion.”

Although the thoughts expressed in the second half of the post are not the views of that author (Allah yarhamo). If you are interested in a more academic read about the Qu'ran as a discourse I recommend this 60 page read.

And you know it was this white dude in his like 50's 60's ( sorry i am very judgy)
And i just got really sad cause from a real yong age we are scared of going out at night cause we might get raped while man can do anything and it was the same type of guy to say that the girl who got raped shouldnt have gone out at night like really
I am tired what is so hard to see, i am sick of wanting to go take a walk at night but then get this invasive thought of wait you could get attack or harassed.
Like really and to see my parents stressing about me waiting in the metro at night while they say nothing about my brother
I am sick of this
