I agree with everything you said about the finale of Stranger Things 4. The ending is rushed and kinda lacks of emotional impact (really annoying bc it could have been so much better, like El and Hopper reuniting).

I kinda think the Duffers want to keep everything vague as much as possible for, like they said, "the big reveal in ss5", "everything comes full circle",... there's been discussions and analysises where ss5 will go down but it's just based on small hints and subtexts. It's like the main role of ss4 is a set-up for ss5, like an 'open-ending' where every scenario is possible, which is hella confusing tbh.

I have to admit that I was rooting for Will and Mike in vol1, but Vol2 makes me realise that Michael Wheeler is really in need of character development (pls give my boy Will the protangonist era back)

i agree w your finale thoughts- i don’t follow the media circus around the show much but i do get the impression s4 is meant to be set-up for s5, which is very annoying to me because if you’re a good writer set-up should not negate storytelling… there are many shows which use a season to set something up but still tell a compelling standalone story in that season!

re mike and will, i’m fairly neutral abt it, the same way i feel abt all the canon ships in stranger things- the kid ships are all sweet enough, although this season mike and el have been kind of tiring for me (in part because mike did p much nothing this season except be el’s kind of dumbass boyfriend). in any event i think will and mike both could do w a return to early season protag focus and that will deserves an actual coming out and general arc in s5. also you can do better, will!

looove steve and his kids obviously- steve and dustin are a no-brainer, but i do wish the others got a couple of real moments with him too (as may be obvious bc i literally wrote that).

steve and robin are very fun. the whole older teen group was great this season, since their personalities were a nice mix- i have to say eddie and steve were really enjoyable together. their dual older brother energy to dustin was very cute. as was eddie’s flirting. or whatever that was meant to be.

on siblings- wish we got some mike and nancy interaction ever. glad lucas and erica got brief moments this season. jonathan and will bonding was very good if brief and a missed opportunity to talk abt the rainbow elephant in the room.

families except the bylers continue to be hilariously absent in the show. when can CPS be called on these people. mikes mom hugging him dramatically will not make me forget how bad of a parent they all are lol.

always enjoy the friendships between the kids- liked will and el a lot this season even tho it was tragically understated, loved mike and will seeing lucas again in hospital, and max’s memories of the group in dear billy. mike and will’s conversations were also admittedly good, despite the unrequited love of it all- they had a relationship core to the show once, so it still holds some weight. i do like lucas and max a lot but i wish lucas wasnt spent so much on Being There For Max hes forever sidelined for no good reason.

underwhelmed by the russia storyline in general- hopper grated on me in s3 and im always team joyce so kind of tired w her having to put up w him and murrays “oh you” vibes but i do enjoy their battle-readiness as a couple. didnt care much abt yuri or the other russian guy (dmitri?) bc it all felt so overdone.

fav scenes: obviously max escaping vecna to kate bush (deserving of her renaissance). the others are going to be random excerpts bc my mind is blanking. eddie telling steve “harrington will drive wontcha big boy” + steve telling nancy he has 6 kids already. the part in the finale where everyone jumps through to the upside down and then throws their weapons through too bc the montage was fun. el throwing the helicopter and then telling papa to choke. will singing neverending story. the ep 7 monologue where 1 reveals the whole plot to nancy (jamie campbell bower fun). the finale segment where everyone is kicking ass and nancy has a shotgun. the way will is like “what friends??” and el goes “stfu” in ep whatever it is. el and max’s reunion. etc.

hey i hope this doesn't sound mean but i'm just curious as to why people ship thorki if they're technically brothers? i'm quite new to being a loki fan so i probably have missed a lot of subtext but i'm just genuinely curious about it

Hey! Welcome to the fandom! :D They are definitely brothers so the ship is incestuous (well except for in AUs where they weren’t raised together - for example arranged marriage AUs with Jotun!Loki and Thor getting married to bring peace to their two realms are pretty popular) and indeed that is often (AUs excepted) an intrinsic part their dynamic because the fact that they are brothers defines them as characters and defines their relationship to each other. A ship certainly doesn’t need any subtext or to have a canonical basis for someone to ship it (heck the characters don’t even need to have met!) although personally I do actually see a lot of canonical basis for thorki in that their interactions seem...unusual. People ship Thorki for different reasons and this post raises some really good points about how it fits into the themes and tropes of storytelling. 

But yeah I ship it for the same reason a lot of people probably do - I find it interesting and emotionally compelling. I think it’s really fun and interesting to read about. The depth and complexity of their relationship and the way their identities are so deeply intertwined and the way they are so intensely caught up in each other and the way they have these complimentary but also conflicting personalities that clash but can also complete each other or conflict in interesting ways and the way they also have all this history makes for very compelling and dramatic stories. It’s not like art only has to be about good things. We read stories and watch movies with fighting and war even though we don’t want that in real life. Game of Thrones has tons of incest in it...as well as fighting and violence and betrayal etc because that makes for a dramatic story.

With thorki I also personally do see a canonical basis for it. The ship is so big that I was aware of it before I started shipping it, and indeed before I even got into the Loki fandom. I initially though it wasn’t for me (not because I was AGAINST it - I believe in ship and let ship) because I didn’t really see why people would ship it. At first I assumed it was just bc Loki & Thor are the main characters and have the most interaction. 

Then since I was in Loki fandom now I rewatched Thor 2011 and got to the bit where Loki & Thor are having their big confrontation and airing all these deep seated grievances but the thing that upsets Loki the most and makes him totally lose control of himself (and this is someone who very much prizes staying in control) to the point where he starts crying and shaking is the idea that Thor might have a girlfriend and I was like ‘ok I see why people ship this.’ And then of course there is the deleted (gee I wonder why) “give us a kiss” scene from Thor 2011 which uh has a lot of face touching and lingering glances (not to mention the kiss comment) which just doesn’t really feel like a normal sibling interaction to me. There’s all the face touching and the way Loki jokingly(?) flirts with Thor in TDW and just the way they look at each other and you can definitely read it as repressed pining, esp from Loki. 

Add to that all the history they have together and the way their identities are so intermingled and they are kind of 2 halves of a dysfunctional whole and you just get great ship fodder. Plus I love reading about relationships that are forbidden for some reason bc that just adds to the angst and drama potential and that’s something a lot of fics for this (tho not all) play with. Give me all the mutual pining that each thinks is unrequited!! Give me them saying ‘damn propriety and social norms!’ to be together. Also there’s a lot of interesting AU potential with Jotun!Loki or just with different canon divergence points.

And there are some REALLY talented writers for this ship so that’s a big plus. So many of the fics are gorgeously written and explore fascinating issues of identity and human (yeah yeah they’re not human) nature and so much more. And yeah I could go on. There’s so much about this ship that I find interesting and enjoy.

How do you feel about RPF? It's fine, do whatever you want. Fanfic has always been for fans, not for creators. Purity culture and entitlement needs to stop. It's like seeing a sign that says "Snapping Turtles", jumping in the pond anyways, then yelling at the people who put up the sign after you lose a couple pounds of flesh.

since i just announced an almost 2 week hiatus on wattpad, i wanted to post something writing (fanfiction) related here!

also because i can’t explain the way she did why she put certain ones higher or lower, i’ll just write a lil explanation for every one of them!

‘i- pls no’ category: 

amnesia fic; i just don’t really like this plot in anything, so this ain’t really a surprise tbh

arranged marriage; this fits the category name very well, just don’t pls... it’s not a fun dynamic to create romance by forcing characters together

baby fic; there are a few exceptions, but i usually don’t start reading something for it - but will keep reading a fic if its introduced further down the line

body swap; that is just a NO. that creates awkward and perverted situations, and i honestly hate both with a burning passion. to feel second-hand embarrassment is not why i read ffs.

major character death; i already am depressed af so i don’t need this in my life

fairytale au; i just don’t enjoy the magic element, i grew out of it pretty quick. the last time i liked something magical fairytale-ish related was when i was like 6.

gen fic; okay i did not know what this meant, but my hopeless romantc soul ain’t about that life kjdsnfdks

magic au; same thing could be said about this one and the fairytale one.

time loop; it’s just idk, not something i would read - even in shows i don’t really like it, since i think it makes the story hard to follow

a random thought:

The wizarding world makes zero sense in so many places. They haven’t had an Industrial Revolution, meaning they haven’t known first hand the new ideas that came with it, and they seem to be stuck in the Middle Ages in many ways, even if they dont seem extremely Christian as these times actually were. We know little about the political system and their beliefs are so random. It’s really confusing.

An unpopular opinion:

Idk what’s unpopular these days. Aside from Albus’ name, I actually liked the Epilogue.

It showed what we needed to know: that Harry and the rest made it out okay. They found the courage to face their destroyed community and rebuild, even though they had gone through enough during the war. I think JKR said it herself in an interview how important rebuilding is after a catastrophe, how it can daunt even the bravest people. The miracles of Japan and Germany bouncing back and better after WWII are relevant real-life examples here. 

A married Harry, enthusiastic about hugging his kids goodbye on their first day of school, a day that to him symbolises a new beginning, is the greatest gift and it does not erase the pain he might feel every day for going through hell in his early life. In fact, it’s this snipet of normalcy what he craved as a boy and refused to daydream about because its weight would be too much,and now he gets to have it. Along with the nightmares and the PTSD and the new challenges yes, but now, in this moment, as he waves to the new generation that he helped create, he’s safe, loved and happy. He deserves it. 

Second unpopular opinion: I don’t give a damn if McGonagall’s timeline is screwed up by bringing her to life in the 20′s. Didn’t really matter to the story before and she’s a freaking badass and comic relief, which is the best combo ever. Is it fan-bating or whatever it was called? Sure. But if she makes the story better with her presense I give minus two fucks about when JKR originally said she was born (also, newsflash: people have the right to change HC’s, especially people who don’t shit about maths, like our dear creator)

I’m not huge on non-canon Hermione ships, and anything with Snape is gross.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):

…Snape? Not his character, but the positive light she gave him by naming Harry’s kid after him. It appeared she was clear on him not being an admirable person, but then he’s the bravest bloke ever? No, ma’am.

On a Fantastic Beasts note, I do hope they handle the backstories of all characters well. We’ll surely get back to this after the FB series are over.

 Favourite Friendship:

The Golden Trio, they work as a three-man-group better, I won’t devide them. Also, as a part-time writer I have to admire how the writing and dynamics were handled, it’s so hard to think as more than one person, not to mention three!

Character I most identify with:

PostAzkaban!Bellatrix feels she’s letting her master and herself down, and so do I. I keep looking for my former self. Who wasn’t much after all, but had some qualities I should recultivate.

Character I wish I could be:

When I started shipping them:

After I finished the books, so that’s since 2007. 12 cool, angsty years. 

My thoughts:

I love them, they’re my evil babies. In fact, I don’t even have reasons for loving them, as most shippers do, I’d just die for them, end of reasoning.

What makes me happy about them:

That they’re complicately made for each other in their unique goth way. And that in the end they had a kid, which I think helped Voldemort out a lot with his issues with intimacy and emotions.

What makes me sad about them:

That they died *sobs hysterically*.

Also in the books they have like two scenes together. (HE SCREAMED THO)

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Seeing Bella’s character butchered down to a snivelling, slavish idiot, though these aren’t Bellamort fics usually.

In Bellamort fics, it feels like a cheat when it says Bellamort but it’s just Bella pining and Voldemort really not caring. I don’t have a problem with the POV, but it needs to be tagged as unrequited. Otherwise I’m open to perspectives.

Things I look for in fanfic:

Good writing, mostly.

I’m also a huge fan of Muggle!AU’s, so if you have that, I’ll read it, no questions asked XD

I presume this means wishlist on fics/art with these two, but do correct me if I’m wrong. I dont have one, since I write myself, so whatever I want to read, I write. Right now I’m eager to finish the following Bellamort fics:

1. Harry finds out about Bellamort via looking through Voldy’s stuff.

2. BellaDiesButVoldyWins!AU

3. Voldemort discovers his breastfeeding kink

4. A therewasonlyonebed!fic 

5. Tomarry turns Bellamort in Easter setting, Muggle!AU, Harry wets himself in the process

In general I’d say I’d like to see more classic, tropy fanfics with these two, lighter ones, you know. Angst is great, but let us enjoy the coffeeshop!AU too.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

Alone and miserable.

I guess Bella would have been okay with Rodolphus, had Tom/Voldemort never been born.

And Voldemort/Tom would have been fine too with some nameless pretty woman he did not love but had to marry to keep face.

But I think that they would have never been truly happy with anyone else. especially Tom, he’d never be really comfortable with anyone.

My happily ever after for them:

VoldemortWins!AU, they conquer Europe, Bella is Minister for War, Voldemort the Emperor. Maybe they have a kid, maybe a couple more or none at all, who cares, the point is they live and fulfull their dreams of revolutionising the Wizarding Wolrd.

I also have a sappy afterlife!AU where for a while Bella is imprisoned at the family castle for having a halfblood little bastard, goes half-insane as Voldemort seacrhes for her (they had a spat right after they got there), and Delphi kills herself and goes to find her dad in small-child form. They finally get tgether and live deathly ever after in some Norwegian fjord in the frozen tundra. (it’s also my personal happy ending, only it’s cats and snakes)

How I feel about this character:

I love Bella. She’s a bitch and a sadist, but I love her.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character:

The one and only, his majesty the Dark Lord himself.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character:

Rodolphus, he’s her only friend.

Also, sad HC: Bella was very close to Andromeda until she got too involved with Voldemort and his cause, and they drifted apart. No one wept harder than Bella after Andy left, and it was her who spent days banging on the Tonks’ door to let them speak to her. Voldy could squeeze tears out of his shirt after she fell asleep on him crying about it.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Again, not sure about what’s unpopular.

I believe she suffers from genuine mental illness that tortures her a lot and makes her life (and her shared life with Voldemort too) very hard. Also I find her more self-doubting and reserved than most authors, hard working and largely indifferent to people who aren’t Voldemort.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

Actual romantic scene would have been nice, but HE SCREAMED after all. Let’s not ask for too much.

Favorite friendship for this character:

Rodolphus and Andromeda. Recently I’ve started Brotp-ing Sirius with Bella too, before they parted ways.

Pairings are always a big part of any fandom even when the theme isn't really romance But instead of talking about the popular ships i wanted to share with you my crack ships and hear your take on them so here i go : Shura X Mephisto , Paulklee X Nicolas (try to ignore the fact that she is a lesbian) , Sebastian X William ,Isidro X Schierke and Jaeha X Hak.

Hello! I’ll answer this, but please keep in mind that…

As such fanon and AUs aren’t exactly my thing (read: not fond of them at all 95% of the time) and, while you have every right to have crack ships, it’s not something I tend to have a particular opinion about since it’s your tastes and all. 

Shura/Mephisto and Isidro/Schierke…

…are actually not crack ships hence why I’m answering your ask in the first place. ;) 

Isidro/Schierke is definitely something we’re working towards as they’re growing up, Isma being only a catalyst to their dynamic development in my opinion (and while I really like her, I have this horrible feeling she won’t last which makes me think that Isidro/Schierke is way more likely than Isidro/Isma or Schierke/Isma).

+ Isidro/Schierke totally parallels Sonia/Mule which is the awkward teenage romance incoming later on the other side of the plot. So, not cracky.

As for Shura/Mephisto: one can’t deny the sexual tension between them even if, the more plot happens, the more Shura despises him. Clearly tho, she’s the kind of woman that he enjoys keeping an eye on, teasing and scaring her all at the same time, but romance isn’t happening ever (as much as I like their dynamic).

Not saying we won’t get more ship tease, especially with Yukio leaving to join the Illuminati and Shura not knowing about that yet, but I don’t envision Mephisto being able to love anything besides his schemes (he is a demon).As for Shura, she had a complex and unrequited crush on Shiro for years and, now I think that, if romance there has to be for her character, Yukio seems to be the most likely partner, even if we’re very far away from that. 

…I do occasionally half ship her with Lightning and Arthur too, but ya know, nothing very significant for now. It’s just that since she’s actively looking for a partner ever since the Aomori arc (ch89), maybe Sensei will really pair her up with someone before the end.

Where Mephy is concerned though, maybe all that sexual tension will lead somewhere (I mean the guy does enjoy women’s company...

and clearly Shura is the kind he fancies) but I really doubt it, so more ship tease will probably just be it. 

Sebastian/William

Not even if they were the last ship on Earth considering that Will clearly despises demons as much as Seb despises Shinigamis. 

Besides, Seb fancies felines, I think the story made clear on that and that’s the only Seb ship I like. As for William, he doesn’t like overwork and I can relate to that. 

Jaeha/Hak

They’re a brotp. Not actually shipping them since Hak fancies Yona and Jaeha used to fancy Yona and tends to like women more than men, from what I could read, but otherwise they’re definitely bros and I’m happy they’ve got each other.

Gina/Nicolas

Okay so, not lying, I almost didn’t answer your ask because, from the moment Gangsta. is a series that is a gem when it comes to representation, I sure ain’t going to “try and ignore that Gina’s a lesbian”. 

Hell nope, she’s one of the strongest and badass characters of the whole series and if she likes the kitty cats…

I say let’s not change that fact, like, ever (see, this is why I dislike AUs).

That being said, even if she were to turn out to be bi (as a character, she sends strong sapphic vibes tho’, even if I’m all for bisexuality), I’d still tell you ‘no’ when it comes to Gina/Nicolas. 

I mean, they clearly despise & disapprove of each other and the story sends heavy Nico/Alex signals for now, on top of which Gina is having a thing with Ginger (slightly raising questions since Ginger is 17 when Gina is 40 but the series’ universe is really harsh), so definitely nope. At least for me.

It's a terrible stereotype that Destiel/Cas girls hate Sam because he's in the way of the ship even though it never had the chance of becoming canon in part because that's not what SPN is about.

I answered a very similar anon here, maybe it was you? And I’ll repeat again. Sam and Dean represent two different types of heroes and, when I marathoned s1-6, I connected more to Dean than Sam. I was not in fandom at the time, I was a Dean girl before I knew such thing exists. Surely, liking Dean more than Sam is not a crime in this fandom? And - I don’t hate Sam! Some of his stories are better than others, but same thing can be said about Dean and Cas. After all, Sam is a fictional character and his stories are just as good as the show writers make them. If the show writers drop the ball, like they did with soulless!Sam, then that’s on them, not Sam. 

I absolutely agree with “It’s a terrible stereotype that Destiel/Cas girls hate Sam“. It is a stereotype and it has never been proven on a fandom scale. There simply has not been a Sam hating movement or big, popular blogs who spend their time on Sam hate. 

The main argument is that Sam is in the way of the ship (destiel). And this, right here is a total fail. Sam is not in the way of the ship, not on the show, not in the fanworks. Why would I think that a brother is an obstacle for Dean to have a romantic attachment to another person? If I wanted to hate someone for getting between my ship on the show, it’d be Benny or Crowley, not Sam. But I don’t hate. Ship and let ship. And in fics, it really depends on how an author writes them, but, you know, wincestiel is a thing. 

On the top of that, shipping destiel =/= demanding it to become canon. There’s plenty of fans who stopped watching the show but still write or read destiel fic. There’s plenty of fans who ship destiel but don’t expect it to become canon. I don’t see why such fans would hate Sam.

Shipping destiel, at least for me, is about shipping Dean and Cas and enjoying fan works about them. There’s a certain dynamic in destiel fics that is hard to find with other pairings and which hits a lot of my buttons. Destiel fic has a lot of angst, mutual pining, unrequitted feelings, slow burn, etc. I’m reading hartwin (Kingsman fandom) fic now and the dynamics are so, so different. So much lighter, less depressed. 

So, I really don’t understand this argument? No SPN fan in their right mind would want or expect the show to remove Sam? I’ve never seen such fandom petitions. Fans have talked about making SPN into more of ensemble show, not killing all great characters but using them more. IF this is what some people call Sam hate, then I’ve no arguments really. IF some fans think that asking for more characters (and giving both leads more free time) equals Sam hate and erasure, then direct your complains to the show writers. (and ask me what I think about Cas erasure on the show, lol.)

About destiel and canon. Saying that destiel won’t become canon because the show is not about that is another logical fail. Sure, SPN is not a soap opera or romantic drama, but Dean and Cas holding hands and locking lips would take only a minute at most? And then they would go and save the world together with Sam, again and again. The only reason why destiel is not going canon is TPTB, not the genre of the show.
