#i like the vibes of a grown up scooby doo

Thinking about how I would write an adult Scooby-Doo series, because I think it can be done.
The first thing I’d do is make the characters actually be adults.  Still young, but adults, in the mid to late 20s range.  Mystery Inc. is a private detective type business that they run together.  In this universe, the supernatural/ghosts/etc are real, but not necessarily common, so when they take on a case, the culprit might be a person disguised as a monster, or it might actually be a real ghost.  The stakes can be higher; sometimes a bad guy is legitimately trying to kill them.  Sometimes the mystery they’re trying to solve is a murder.  Sometimes they actually get hurt on their cases.
Fred: the core of Fred’s character should be that he’s incredibly kind.  Like, give a stranger the shirt off his back kind.  The “Fred can’t talk to potential clients because he might take a case for free and we need to eat” kind.  He’s an honest and good person and sometimes gets himself into trouble because he assumes other people are too.  While he’s not very good at reading people or noticing ulterior motives, he’s brilliant when it comes to mechanical or engineering type stuff, so he’s the one who keeps the mystery machine running, builds their gadgets, and of course, designs the traps.
Daphne: she comes from old money, and her parents absolutely despise her life choices, to the point where they haven’t officially disowned her, but they have basically cut her off, so she doesn’t actually have access to any family money.  Growing up wealthy has granted her a variety of skills, including speaking multiple languages, horseback riding, and fencing.  She’s very into fashion and jewelry (even if she can’t afford it anymore) and has extensive knowledge of both that can occasionally provide a vital clue in a case. And even though her parents have cut her off, Daphne still has a wide network of contacts she can ask for favors sometimes, because she’s personable, and people tend to like her.  Daphne is also very emotionally intelligent, and is usually the one who can spot when someone is lying to them.
Side note - I ship Fred and Daphne, so I think I would start them off as an established couple for this universe.  Dating, engaged, married, I don’t care.  They are stupidly in love, ride or die for each other.  There’s no will they, won’t they, no worries about cheating.  They are in a healthy, happy, loving relationship, and no one (not even Daphne’s disapproving parents) are going to mess that up for them.
Velma: she is the forensics nerd who sometimes gets super excited about the wrong thing at the wrong time (”He was mummified in seconds? That’s so cool!” “Velma!  His wife is standing right there!” “Oh.  Sorry.”).  She’s not purposely insensitive, she just gets laser focused on her work and forgets to filter herself sometimes.  She’s also the one who can get so fixated on solving whatever mystery they’re working on, she’s willing to bend or maybe break laws.  Is breaking and entering really so bad?  Not if it gets them answers.
Shaggy: he is still the comic relief, but he’s the comic relief by being the only person in the group that actually has common sense.  He manages the business’s finances, he’s the only one who knows how to cook, and the others tease him for being a coward sometimes, but Shaggy maintains that if a ghost with an axe is coming for you, running is the only sensible option.  He should also have a range of random knowledge that sounds useless, but sometimes saves the day (ex ventriloquism, origami, the history of spoons, etc).
Scooby: as this is a universe where supernatural creatures exist, Scooby is an ancient eldritch type being that took a shine to Shaggy when he was a kid, and took the form of a talking dog to befriend and hang out with him.  Aside from the talking dog bit and not aging, he never uses his powers in a way that anyone notices.  The audience is not told upfront that Scooby is an ancient eldritch being; it should slowly be hinted at throughout the series so the audience put it together, but the characters never realize it.  Scooby genuinely considers Shaggy to be his best friend, and cares about the rest of the gang too.

What are some of your favorite Fred and Daphne moments? Romantic or platonic
AAAH thank you for giving me the opportunity to ramble about them!! always so so appreciated. and for specifying romantic or platonic too!! while a lot of their significant moments together from the 90s onwards have been somewhat romantically charged, i love them even when they're just a goofy pair of friends with no immediate romantic implications.
because (mini fraphne history side tangent), they weren't always intended as love interests! the "fred chooses to search for clues with daphne because he fancies her" reading of the original show technically isn't true — they were just paired off because the writers found them boring and wanted an excuse to get them out of the picture for a few scenes. which makes the fact that they've since grown to become an iconic duo in their own right all the more inspiring!
so without further ado, here are some of my favourite moments of theirs!! 💙💜
Tumblr media
(begins under the cut!)
the best birthday present ever — zombie island
if i could count their general existence in this movie as a single moment i would. i am so weak to the fact that even after the gang splits ways, fred and daphne stick together, and fred plays such a crucial supporting role in daphne's dreams/career/life. and their relationship hasn't descended into being just boring coworkers — daphne has been so busy with work that she forgot her own birthday, but fred is sure to make it special by doing no less than getting the whole gang back together. the way he teases her before revealing them, too!!! and the hug she gives him when he explains. i get such cosy, "known each other since forever" vibes from them in this movie, like they're just so comfortable and silly with each other and (sobs into my hands)
Tumblr media
my hero — scooby doo and krypto too
the way this movie has already given us so many fraphne moments for the books. the Literal Kiss aside, this scene just made me smile from ear to ear. i'm not always so hot on the jealousy subplots these two often get, but i appreciated how this film had a more light-hearted take on it, and how fred was simply confused rather than upset. additionally, his attempts to impress daph are just so funny and sweet, you get the sense that he's just hamming it up to make her laugh and doesn't care if that's all he ends up doing. of course then he gets so into it that he doesn't register the monster right behind him, and jumps into daphne's arms just like the rest of the gang always do with him. the way he clings to her!! and how she says "oh come on". they are disasters and they need each other in this essay i will.
Tumblr media
you're never going to lose me, fred — mystery incorporated
following their relationship in this show sure is a journey... and not always the best one. while i understand that they're teenagers going through a lot, it's sad to so often see their inherent chemistry as a duo lost in miscommunication and arguments. which makes the moments where they connect and come out stronger as a couple all the more rewarding!! this is hands down my favourite scene of theirs — while the conflict that leads up to it is uncomfortable (fred tightly scheduling their activities together), i like how daphne addresses it quickly rather than keeping her feelings hidden and simply expecting fred to pick up on them. by now she understands that fred needs direct communication (autism!!!), and that's ok!! meanwhile, fred has grown too; he actively opens up to daphne about his fears of losing his loved ones, something i don't think he could or would have done at the start of the show. he's come to understand his own emotions and the importance of expressing them. both of them learn from each other, and are able to move forward because of that. it's a wonderful little moment that really showcases the best of them!!
Tumblr media
i love you — stage fright
THE fraphne scene. god. where do i begin. the fact that daphne wrote lyrics about her feelings for fred to the music he composed, and was terrified of ever showing them to him. but then she decides to break the condition she established to velma (only confessing to him after the contest), throws caution to the wind, and just,,,,, confesses her love to him live on stage in front of thousands of people!!!! and how fred looks so happy and content playing along to these lyrics that i'm sure he knows are about him, and when it comes to daphne singing "i love you", he says i love you back with ZERO HESITATION!!! like he was waiting to say it too!! because they're mutually pining dumbasses who will cry if they make eye contact in a remotely romantic context!!! god!!!!!!! also the nose boop before daph goes in for the kiss. adorable.
Tumblr media
the engine / the driver — curse of the 13th ghost
this scene is another that has a lot to say about their relationship in a general sense, and it's so special to me!! i'm not crazy about this movie as a whole, but i love the running theme of fred and daphne's differing leadership qualities, and how they balance each other out. fred just wants to keep things the same as they've always been (autism!!!), but that often leads him to coming off as controlling or dismissive when he's in Planning Mode. he doesn't mean it, because he genuinely believes the best in the gang and their individual skills, so it's no wonder that he grows insecure when his place is questioned. but by the end of the film he accepts that daphne is the engine, the glue that fundamentally holds the gang together and keeps them running as a unit — they would be nowhere without her constant energy and willingness to take action. however, daphne reassures him that he'll always have his place as the driver, the man with the plan, the one to put things in motion and support everyone with all his heart along the way. and the tender way they look at each other to cap it all off!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
knight in shining armour — sword and the scoob
i saved the (probably) best for last. less serious analysis here and more just me gushing because i spin this moment around my microwave brain on a daily basis. continuing the theme of "fred embraces his role as team cheerleader", he's not even upset when daphne has to fight in his place — he planned this and is wholeheartedly supporting her, to the point where it makes her flustered (she’s HIS knight in shining armour)!! and him giving her his ascot as a good luck charm!!!! nem found dead on the floor. not to mention "sir daphne/sir fred" and how they continue to call each other that. i swoon every time. they are so romantic in their own very silly and very teenager-y way and i love moments where they're just so unapologetic about that!!
Tumblr media
i really hope you enjoyed and that this was what you were looking for!! fellow fred & daph fans, please feel free to comment and/or reblog with some of your own favourite moments!! i always love to see them. :D

A list of my works on AO3
(they're all Saiki K fics at the moment but I'll add fandom categories to this post if I ever get a new interest lol)
It doesn't fit my plans; it's something I don't understand
Published July 11, 2021
Summary: Saiki is fascinated by Satou Hiroshi, and the people around him start to see that this might be more than just a platonic curiosity.
What is this feeling called love?
[Notes: Bittersweet ending. Nobody gets together. My insistence on theming these early fics after songs is pretty embarrassing now. I'm not proud of my writing here but the story is ok. I might rewrite it someday. Not bad for my first fic since like 2003 though]
Something Changed
Published August 11, 2021
Summary: Aiura wrote a letter to her soulmate the night before they were supposed to meet.
She's predicted a lot of things... how could she have gotten this one wrong?
[Notes: Another sad ending. The format of this is almost entirely an excited letter about the future Aiura imagined that would never come to pass. Not really much of a story happening here tbh]
Won't it be strange when we're all fully grown?
Published August 28, 2021 (INCOMPLETE)
Summary: With graduation quickly approaching, the psychics of PK Academy (and Akechi) worry that they'll drift apart. Luckily, they come up with an idea.
"Let's all meet up in the year 2030!"
A lot can change in a decade.
[Notes: Kind of like a psychicker class reunion where they're all adults with jobs and everything catching up. Future chapters were going to have almost a Scooby Doo vibe (with a twist reveal at the end about Aiura's husband!) I abandoned it because I posted some art and someone called my art creepy and it made the whole fic feel bad to think about. Maybe I'll get back to it someday. It's cool to see how quickly my writing improved. I was also super proud of how well I wrote Akechi's dialogue here]
Hotel Valentine
Published September 24, 2021
Summary: Toritsuka Reita is a pretty lucky guy. He somehow managed to not get expelled from PK Academy, he graduated, and he's avoided creeping on any living girls for a few months. To celebrate, the PK Psychics paid for a one-night stay in the fanciest hotel in Tokyo so Reita can creep on the ghost girl of his dreams. Pretty lucky, right?
Too bad things aren't going his way. He's being ignored by the staff, he's bored out of his mind, and he can't find the ghost girl anywhere. Some vacation, huh?
[Notes: Spoiler: Toritsuka's a ghost stuck in a nice hotel. This is based on a concept album that most of you have never heard but hear me out! It really has nothing to do with the Cibo Matto album of the same title except that the chapters are named after the songs and there are fun Easter eggs for fans of the album. Another slightly sad ending but not too bad]
Coffee & TV
Published August 27th, 2022
Summary: The new silence in her house felt heavy on Kumi's shoulders. Everything reminded her of Kumagoro... especially her grandson Kusuo, who has been coming to visit more often than ever before.
[Notes: this is my least popular finished fic and I understand why. It's about grief and the loss of a grandparent. It's about the unique pain that a psychic would have after failing to prevent that death. There's a sad twist that TBH I think I was a little too subtle with. One of my favorites]
Friendly Fire
Published January 8, 2023
Summary: Being an adult is great until the Problems start. Good grief.
30-year-old Kusuo's psychic powers have been pretty well controlled for over a decade. Why are things starting to go haywire all of a sudden?
[Notes: Friendly Fire my fucking beloved!! In this fic, Saiki gets essentially psychic multiple sclerosis and has to deal with some complicated emotions. I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything but it was cathartic to write and I'm in love with the versions of these characters that I wrote here. So much so that I'm writing a sequel just so I can write more of them. Also, FINALLY a happy ending!!]
Ramen Ikouze?
Published April 28, 2023
Summary: After being dragged to get ramen with Nendou every week, Kusuo starts to realize that it's not so bad after all.
[Notes: I love Nendou, he's so good. This fic is very cute and about their friendship. A couple of fun twists]
Saiki has Plans?
Published May 2, 2023
Summary: Saiki mentions having plans after school, and the overactive imaginations at PK Academy work themselves into a fuss trying to imagine what he could be doing.
[Notes: This fic follows around a bunch of Saiki's classmates as they gossip and snoop to find out what he's up to. It's my most popular fic for some reason]
A Bright Flash
Published May 13, 2023
Summary: Saiki develops an annoying new ability, and through some comedy series logic is forced to tell Teruhashi about it. She tries to be a good ally to her "newly psychic" crush.
[Notes: Teruhashi accidentally finds out about Saiki's new power and he's like "fine. I'm a psychic. But it's just this one power and nothing else."]
Heat Wave
Published June 6, 2023
Summary: There's a historic heat wave in Hidariwakibara, and some of our favorite PK Academy students end up running into each other while taking refuge from the hot weather.
A series of four standalone (but connected) stories taking place at the same time:
Aiura has a vision of disaster, and she and Nendou try to stop it
Yumehara gives Toritsuka some advice to improve his game
Akechi meets Teruhashi's brother
Saiki really wants some shaved ice from the kakigori stand where Mera is working
[Notes: The summary explains it well but also I weaved so many connections between the chapters (that are all happening at roughly the same time). It was also a lot of fun writing interactions between characters that didn't get much in canon. Also you can tell it was hot as hell when I wrote it because I definitely gave Saiki some kind of psychic heat intolerance lol]
Immunity
Published July 6, 2023
Summary: She didn't know why, but Kokomi was finally able to see the truth.
Why Saiki seemed to appear and disappear without explanation. Why it seemed like he always knew what she was planning. Why he wore those weird hairpins.
It was all so obvious now.
Saiki had psychic powers.
[Notes: The veil is lifted suddenly and all the truths that Saiki kept locked behind his mind control were revealed to Teruhashi. He and Aiura have a chat with her about it. Also this was the first fic of mine that an IRL friend read (to my knowledge) and his comment was something like "I don't know anything about your boy but he sounds autistic and gnc" and I took that as a fucking compliment! You know you've written Saiki right when people can see that shit from space]
The Disastrous Financial Situation of Saiki K
Published August 9, 2023 (IN PROGRESS)
Summary: Adjusting to his new limitations has been annoying, and now Kusuo (age 31) needs a car to get around.
Unfortunately, taking time off work has drained his savings.
How is he going to get the money for a car now?
[Notes: This is my sequel to Friendly Fire but it's a lot lighter in nature. 100-Yen-Man goes around doing stuff for Saiki's friends. There are mentions of his disability from Friendly Fire and it's plot relevant but I think you can catch on even if you didn't read the original. I haven't updated in a while but I am actively working on it!! A Yumehara and Makino chapter next and then a Toritsuka chapter after that. TBH this isn't my best work and it's pretty unpopular but I'm having fun and that's all that counts)

You got me! Lol
but honestly? Was going to ask about Diluc and Jean since I don’t understand their relationship?? friend? divorced couple? Nothing but former co workers who generally respect each other?? And maybe comparison between their working dynamic vs kaeya & Jean working dynamic. but if that is not your cup of tea then i was going to ask about Rosaria and Kaeya friendship lol
so you pick whichever you like, Or ignore up to you <3
Jean and Diluc - childhood friends who were *almost* on the verge of dating and everyone around assumed they would get together, but they never actually did bc Diluc left to became a batman. kids of aristocratic families who did not have a lot of options to have friends growning up and at first were almost forced to hang out, but this is what allowed them to get to know each other better. both had pet turtles, come on, that doesn't happen on accident, Diluc is the pets guy (cavalry\horses, bird) so he probs got his first and infected Jean into getting her own, while they were both mocked by Kaeya. They were both crushing on each other, but nothing happened, which is why there's both clear respect, fondness and trust, but also awkwardness that can come off as this "divorced" vibe. They knew each other so well, but then everything changed so drastically and they don't know how to carry themselves around each other anymore despite still caring about each other. but Jean is the only one Diluc clearly trusts with his secret identity, he does his whole scooby doo shebang to throw Kaeya off, but accepts Jean without hesitation. It's almost easier to have a third neutral person like traveler who doesn't know their history around to communicate by proxy while pretending it's only about mondsdat safety. somewhat a romantic option, but very tentative, shy longing on both parts with a belief that the other person has already moved on and changed too much.
Kaeya and Rosaria - friends who have such similar coping and defense mechanisms that they get along very well, but their relationship hinges juuust on this side of unhealthy. Both cynical, closed off, wary of others, cryo isolationists who think it's better if others stay away from them and hang out together precisely bc they think the other one would not get attached and then hurt. The shadowy methods they can share without being judged, the sarcasm, the loneliness. Their problem is that when one would show vulnerability and the need for connection, the other would shut it off, esp Rosa with quite the harsh jabs. But this certainty that Rosa will not get too close and so won't get hurt from being around him is what lets Kaeya hang out with her a lot more, while keeping distance from Jean despite caring a lot about her too. Somewhat?? friends-with-benefits vibes, but very matter-of-fact, not romantic, "we know such secrets of each other and we don't want to get other people hurt bc we believe we're a bad news, so we might as well just have so fun". each of them actually needs open support and acceptance, so I don't ship them romantically, but they're good as friends, esp if they get therapy

What would you write if DC hired you to make a tempest/garth comic? What would be the genre, mood, setting, etc? Would it be plot focused or lore focused?
OH BUDDY
well personally i would end up ignoring n52 and rebirth so,, sorry to the like two rebirth garth stans i know but ajdgjlh
but anyway i've had this idea for a more tempest centric series that feels very like,, scooby doo ish? not full on detective series cause that's not his vibe, but like a mix of stumbling into different magical mysteries, fighting a monster of the week, and discovering different magic things! in my perfect aquafam world, koryak never died and garth got with letifos so both of them would accompany him!
in my head, this series would have to take place after the tempest series and vol 5,, tbh i'm not sure where exactly it would fall on the timeline!! all i know is that it would definitely happen after vol 5
but anyway, the series would start with garth mentally reeling from defeating slizzath, and in a "what the fuck is life about" kind of way, he decides to learn more about shayeris and his family history. at this point, he does know things, but he would want to know more about the day-to-day stuff and the culture, not just the all-powerful wizardy stuff. anyway, letifos wants to go with him <3 they aren't together at this point, but the series would provide a nice slow burn for them to be official by the end. i Know garth usually jumps headfirst into his relationships, but i would want this series to be more introspective so he would be thinking things through a lot more and have some hesitance. Anyway, once he gets to the ruins of the city, some weird ass monster jumps out and they have to fight it!! oh no!!!
i'm thinking that garth doing his little ritual thing either freed other bad guys from the fucking underwater prison dimension OR garth just,, doing magic awakens a bunch of shit cause they go "owo? someone is using powerful magics 👀 time to rise and grind!!" aldgh
so anyway, they just get pulled into fighting random monsters and protecting random people with magic. it would definitely have a silver age vibe with each issue being its own complete story (maybe occasionally spanning two or three). in regard to the overall vibe though,, yknow the vibe of the first live action scooby film? literally that! like it's grown up and there's a lot of dangerous shit going on and it goes into serious topics and has serious, darker moments, but it's also just a little silly goofy aldhg the series would start being dark and angsty then gradually get lighter as garth not only leans more into his magic abilities but also allows himself to be happy and help people the way he wants to.
it would definitely be more lore focused! i would really want to go in on insane atlantean history, magical worldbuilding, etcetc. the aquafam has a lot of good characters for the audience to learn things through, but garth will honestly always be #1 for me in that regard. that's why i would want this series to be a little more scooby doo-ish, so that garth is learning things/figuring shit out at the same pace as the readers!

The End, So Far Album Review
Hello. It's Toad. And this post is all about the new album that Slipknot put out and my thoughts live time while listening to it. This means that they are unfiltered. That being said please understand that I am thankful they shared their art with us yet again, and a review is merely my own opinion of how the music made me feel and my experience while listening to it.
It's not an argumentative point nor do I wish to have a Socratic seminar on the internet. Spoiler Toad’s real personality is not Ben Shapiro so I don't really enjoy having frivolous little scuffles with people who I am largely unacquainted with. I’m not sure I made a gain in life anytime that I engaged in an argument on the internet.
However, I love sharing knowledge with others and conversing (and for those of you who don't know arguing and conversing/learning new views are not the same thing!!!). Okay now that I've attracted people who like to fight bahaha let's get on to the review :)
Adderall: (4/10)
Reminds me of a musical
Acid trip influenced?
I feel like I'm slightly in the 70s
Overall eh and seems out of place, but new styles are always a great idea
The Dying Song: (9/10)
Already knew this one was a banger
Angry. I am in love.
Great message
Still can't be early Slipknot tho, but that's okay that's why the other albums are recorded and can be listened to at any time. They don't need to be the same to still be Slipknot.
The Chapeltown Rag: (10/10)
God damn I love this song
Make hyper brain feel very happy
Message is also good
Sid doing work? Okayyyyy!
The fucking breakdown at 1:37 ughhh 😩 Yummy.
Corey's deep voice power here is really showcased 👀
Yen: (8/10)
Like the spooky/eerie video and vibes
The guitar goes hard
We love to see Rat's solo!
Corey's voice really be horny hours
Chorus is a banger
Overall song is good, a little repetitive is all.
Hive Mind: (8/10)
Very much so like the spooky start. I feel like a terminator invader alien
Okayyyy go get it Jim, Mick, and Alessandro!
We can hear Clown and his shiny keg. We love.
Jay's getting a workout, too
Alien sounds are banging
Love the energy and anger of the song. Reminiscent of young Slipknot.
Warranty: (4/10)
Okay right away has me pumped
We are still in a spaceship
Hmmm not really vibing with this one. Seems a little slapped together.
I feel meh. It didn't really capture my attention.
Medicine for the Dead: (3/10)
I'm in a Scooby-Doo episode where it is set in a swamp and there is something swimming in the water.
The tempo is nice and feels powerful and is very methodical.
Song really made me realize how Corey's singing style has changed and grown
I don't know if I like the up and down/soft and heavy style :/
Acidic: (2/10)
I can see Shawn put his ✨artiste✨ mind to work here with all the intros
Feels very sinister in the opening
God damnit Corey keeps normally singing and I wanna just hear anger 😂 but still at least it is new and fresh
The guitar solo tho. Who's getting their dick sucked??? 👀👀👀
Ending was sort of strange and gave 70's vibes again
Overall not a fan of the new style here.
Heirloom (1/10)
Okay Sid go off I guess
Corey if you don't start screaming so help me God. Good on you tho for calming down in life 😂
I just. Everyone else is amazing. Really upped their skill set. Corey. You are on thin ice [please know that toad understands how amazing Corey's skill set is, this comment is made in jest. Please relax].
Did they accidentally put a stone sour song on the Slipknot album? 😂 @in-death-we-fall @custer-mp3
H377: (9/10)
I'm not getting my hopes up even tho the intro is dope
Finally we have remembered our roots as a nu-metal band
Tempo? Chef's kiss! 🤌🏻
Can't wait to go off like a crack squirrel when this comes on
Corey could sound a little more. Like. Angry? I don't know, just not like Corey quite yet.
Great guitar work again
Amazing
De Sade: (4/10)
Great seamless carry-over into the next song.
Nice Jay spotlight for a little
Whatever Corey repeats is um. Interesting? Hahaha
We pick up tempo and energy in the middle
Lots of high-pitched guitar which isn't bad, just something newer
Very nice base playing ♥️
The drawn out guitar after "why" is smexy
The "stab stab stab" in the background of the end guitar solo was lowkey funny and made me think of: who let Sid in the recording booth lmao
Overall just meh towards it, not bad tho.
Finale: (5/10)
Okay so we got like a melody violin and piano fairy in a cave thing going on?
Building up slowly
I like the layers of the chorus
Monkeys "oooohahahaha" very uhhh unique?
Guitar and base at like ≈3:00 is nice
We got some opera.
Song seemed to have the tone of coming to an acceptance that wasn’t necessarily wanted.
Melancholy??
It was a great statement piece. Not my style.
Overall: (6/10)
Great they still put out music.
Trying new styles is great, dont want it to be stale they just didn’t vibe with me which is fine
For me 50/50 love/hate the songs.
Separate from Sone Sour for the most part, but definitely the most mixed that Slipknot has been with them and their style.
Probably my least favorite album.
Will continue to listen to it and see if it grows on me more. I initially didn’t like WANYK also so things tend to grow better on me over time.

Ok so I kinda have like two different aus in my head that overlap a lot- that being deltarune au and the small-town-murder-mystery au cause they just share a lot of the similar vibes and concepts in general-
It’s basically clingyduo focused story of Wilbur gone missing (in dt au Wilbur makes a too abrupt leave to “college” and Ranboo is also missing) and them trying to pick up the pieces while also coping with the odd tragedies they both have grown up with in life. But in this- there’s specific moments where Q is there for them and caring for them in the background and like. It makes me go insane…
Like Q catching them on the outskirts of town before they wander off into the woods with nothing but a flashlight at night to go search for Wilbur or Ranboo (he was og taking a smoke break but immediately puts it out and throws it away from clingy duo before he calls out to them) and he insists on coming with them- all like in a goofy manner with them but it’s clear as day that Q is just so goddamn worried over them- especially with everything happened to them recently
Like… idk I just love having that dynamic of c!q as this like figure that not necessarily older-brother-figure despite the vibes bc Q keeps his distance and really does it with the reasoning of “ok someone has to look out for them properly, or we’ll just end up with more missing ppl” cause he just cares too much about the people around him to just. Not keep an eye on them for the sake of ‘staying out of their business’.
((Also the extra added layer of drama being the fact that tommy and tubbo eventually find out that Q was hiding important information about Wilbur all along cause he and Wilbur had a really bad fight a few days prior to Wilbur ‘going off to college’ as well as Wilbur telling Q about small bits of his situation that had genuinely very scary implications that he did NOT want to place on clingy duo much less tell anyone in the town that didn’t seem trustworthy. In reality Q has just been working just as hard alongside clingy duo to figure out what’s really going on in the town despite his insistence to clingyduo saying ‘maybe we should leave this to the police’. So all of this kinda crashes down on them and clingy duo now don’t trust Q and essentially its just like the family drama of Not What He Seems episode from Gravity Falls- like the conflict of ‘we know and trust and love this person but now we’re questioning everything we’ve ever known about him’.))
OK SORRY THAT WAS A LOT akdkkf but yeah… complicated tntduo…. Clingyduo mystery- scooby doo style…. Small town mystery… autumn vibes… halloweeny shit… yeah.
OHHHHH THIS IS COOL!!!! and having c!quackity being put in a position where c!clingy don't FULLY trust him but still have that brotherly sort of love with him fits into canon so well
i can imagine some of their scenes going down like
Quackity leant against the old brick wall, looking out into the accompanying forest ahead. He had no clue who's house it was or if they would even find him, he just needed a smoke break. The ashes felt good as a sedative for his lungs, easing all of the tension out of his body.
You get very stressed out with the weight of secret on your shoulders.
He could almost sink into the peace and quiet, until he heard footsteps coming from nearby. Something in him jumped and went straight to the gun he kept only for bad occasions.
Luckily, he managed to make out the faces of the people scurrying around before taking off the safety.
There's few people in this town dumb enough to go wandering off into the woods alone, especially Tommy and Tubbo.
He knows they're young, and they just want to know what happened to Ranboo and Wilbur. A little like him, a lot more younger and naïve though. It felt so strange to look into their eyes and only see a mirror looking back.
Before they could wander too much off into the woods, he quickly called out to them.
"Hey, what do you two think you're doing out past your bedtime?" he teased, hoping to not let his concern bleed through his voice.
They jumped up like meerkats, their wide eyes finding him almost immediately. He could see Tommy break out into a grin in the dark.
"Oh, hey, Big Q! We're just- uh-" Tommy was obviously trying to come up with believable excuses for going into the forest this late.
Quackity had seen some kids going past as parts of dares, trying to figure out if the rumours of there being monsters in there is true. He was sure it wasn't, at least mostly he was sure.
He knew this was different. He knew Tommy and Tubbo.
"Going to find Ranboo and Wilbur? Guys, I'm sure they're not in there. The police would've found them already," he supplied, hoping they would clear their minds of fear, go back home and to bed. Where they should be, not worrying their minds off like adults.
Tommy and Tubbo both frowned at him in the dark, looking back at each other knowing that he already knew what they were planning to do. Before Quackity could celebrate with making sure they got home safely, Tubbo lit up.
"We were actually gonna go- go ghost-hunting!" he lied, obviously. Even if he hadn't known him for years, he would be able to tell.
He scoffed, and then replied with, "Oh, is that so? Don't you need like, equipment and shit for that?"
"Not the way we're doing it!" Tommy piped up, smirking brightly. "We gonna do this naturally."
"How dangerous is that?"
"As dangerous as it gets, Big Q. It's like... worse than whatever keeps breaking the ice-cream machine at MacDonalds. And we're gonna find it and make sure it doesn't haunt us ever again."
Quackity thinks for a moment. 'Doesn't haunt us again' feels awfully like 'gives Ranboo and Wilbur back.'
"Well, if it's going to be so dangerous," Quackity said, "wouldn't you want an adult to come with you?"
Tommy and Tubbo immediately share glances. If it wasn't dark and they weren't at least ten feet away, he'd be able to make out what they meant. Instead, he just waits until they decide to find out what they're thinking.
"I mean, I guess? We're pretty independent, our moms even let us go out to the shops without telling them now," Tubbo responded. "But you could just say you wanted to go ghost-hunting with us, y'know?"
Code word for 'yes we want you to come but we're too shy to say it.'
"I wouldn't mind it."
Tommy grinned. "Well, c'mon, men, we have ghosts to hunt. Let's march forward!" he exclaims, in a voice way too loud for midnight hours. Quackity hadn't realised he had worked that late.
"Let's go kick some ghost-ass!"
They had some ghost-ass to kick, along with whoever the fuck thought it would be a great idea to mess with Tommy, Tubbo, Quackity and their friends.

Queen of the Tiles by Hanna Alkaf
“But life, like Scrabble, is like that—you get the rack you get, and you just have to figure out how to make do.”
Tumblr media
Queen of the Tiles is an entertaining mystery romp that belongs to that subgenre of YA books that combines a whodunnit type of storyline with the kind of teen dynamics at play in Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. Similarly to a lot of these books, Queen of the Tiles takes place in a ‘confined’ setting, but rather than going for the usual prep school/high school type of backdrop, Hanna Alkaf freshens things up by having her story take place during the World Warrior Weekend, an annual Scrabble competition. This tournament takes place in a hotel in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, a setting that, you must admit, we don’t get to see often in YA. Additionally, our lead is Muslim, and we also get a very casual non-binary rep with Shuba. The story definitely has some strong The Queen’s Gambit vibes and the author depicts the various Scrabble games in a really fun and dynamic way (so that they are anything but boring) and we can see just how devoted and ambitious some of the competitors are. Najwa Bakri, our narrator, is taking part in this tournament, the first one she's done since the very sudden death of her best friend.
“Every player knows that words can be twisted to suit your purpose, if the board allows it, and Trina knows this better than most. She is fantastic; she ignites fantasies. She is spectacular; she attracts spectacle.”
Trina Low died during the previous year's World Warrior Weekend. Since her death, Najwa has distanced herself from the Scrabble world, but she finds herself going back to claim Trina’s former title, that of the Queen of the Tiles. She knows that people who didn’t like Trina, and who were in turn not liked by her, are also vying for that title, and Najwa isn’t ready to give them the satisfaction of winning. Competing again however proves harder than it used to be now that Najwa is struggling with anxiety and trauma caused by Trina’s premature death. The author is really thoughtful in the way she articulates Najwa's grieving process, capturing just how suddenly grief can engulf you, regardless of how much time has passed since the person you cared for died. Alkaf also shows how grief manifests differently in different people.
Things get harder when new posts appear on Trina’s long inactive insta. Cryptic posts hinting that her death may have been very much not an accident. Joining a long tradition of kid-turned-detectives such as Nancy Drew and the Scooby-Doo gang (both of which get mentioned in the story), Najwa begins solving the posts’ ominous word puzzles and starts questioning the other competitors, most of whom were foes of Trina. There is the pompous boy she was competing against when she died, who seemed less concerned by her dropping dead than verifying whether her death meant he’d automatically won that final round. There is Trina’s ‘other’ best-friend, an ostensibly nice and obsequious girl whose subservience to Trina definitely gives off sycophantic vibes. There is that girl who was caught in a cheating scandal, and Trina may have been responsible for stoking those cheating rumours. And, of course, Trina’s off-and-on again boyfriend Mark, a possessive type who may have grown tired of Trina’s and what he perceived to be as her ‘blasé’ attitude. While Najwa has always been aware of Trina’s thorny character, and her need to prove herself and to one-up others, during the course of her ‘amateur’ investigation she will be forced to really confront the kind of person Trina was.
“That’s just how she was; she saw something she wanted and she went for it with a laser-sharp intensity that could border on the obsessive. All or nothing, perfection or perish.”
I liked the drama, the secrecy, the rumours and gossip. The Scrabble element was really well delivered and it worked really well for the mystery clues. My only quibbles are 1) throughout the story Najwa links words that are being used or were used in a game to her past or present situation. Sometimes this was effective, but the more this device was used, the less impactful it became, and at times I found the connection between word and situation to be a bit far-fetched 2) Najwa's 'tells' got pretty annoying. The characters weren’t particularly fleshed out or memorable, some were verged on being rather silly but this subgenre isn’t exactly known for having uber nuanced characters so it didn’t really negatively impact my reading experience. I would have however liked for Trina to have been portrayed in a slightly different light, as she ultimately seems a bit of a mean queen-bee cliché. I liked the lack of romance and Najwa made for a rather endearing protagonist. Their resolution to the mystery was a bit of a letdown, as I found the identity of the person behind those posts far too obvious. It would have been more satisfying to make someone else the culprit. There was also a metaphor about Mark being "a conquistador, trying to impose his will on Trina, colonize her spirit and reap her charms for himself, bend her to his definition of what a girlfriend ought to be" which struck me as a rather unhappy comparison to make. In general, I did like the references we get, especially when they added a dose of humor and levity to the story's ongoings (“Honestly. Murder. What do you think this is, an episode of Riverdale?"). Still, I found this engrossing and fun read. If you are looking for a light-hearted whodunnit that focuses on a group of ambitious and possibly backstabby professional scrabblers, look no further.

Lol Swanna vs Overblots and Swanna would win, Not because of it’s moveset but because of it’s need to peck out the eyes of people it doesn’t like. Lol imagining chap 3. with Azul running around ramshackle trying Not to get bitten or pecked to death and retreating to the Monstro Lounge only for Swanna to follow him and terrorize everyone there. No student was safe Not even the Tweels want to Go near it.
if there's one thing that I've grown to have a fear of over the past year, it's of ducks, geese, and swans. They're scary as hell when they want to be.
don't be fooled by that cute boat scheme, they are scary AF
and this is a huge What-If Scenario for the fic, but I'm starting to like it more and more so hush my planning brain and my plans I wanna write more
like sure, Azul could try to get rid of the hellion white bird that is Swanna, but nothing can stop Swanna if it decides to divebomb him from the skies and give him an Aerial Ace vibe check from Arceus above, especially in Chapter 3.
That's when it gets personal.
Tumblr media
P.E. class is a certified pain for Azul already, but add Swanna to the mix?
nothing but nightmares about screaming bird noises, rushing broom noises, white feathers sticking to his clothes, and peck marks everywhere that last for weeks on end
the first instance of the tweels dealing with Swanna started with a Scooby-Doo chase scene through Ramshackle, the twins often falling through the old, creaky floor
the reason for the chase? the Pokemon somehow stole their Magic Pens with its beak and is pretty much evading them at every corner.
the Pokemon does give back the pens eventually... by leaving them at the very top of Ramshackle where the only way up there is to fly.
when Azul tried to retreat to the Monstro Lounge to rest for once, he got followed and everyone in Octavinelle has never been more afraid of birds in their lives

Hi. I love polyamorous Scooby Gang (it is the superior ship imo) but I feel really weird because I like Shelma as a ship (obviously within the bigger ship) but I feel kind of alone. I didn't really watch Mystery Incorporated so I feel like there is this anger that I don't know. Like I literally just discovered all this hate recently and I just feel weird, like I support something that might be wrong. Just wanted to ask you because not every person ships the gang as poly.
Hi Anon, here are my thoughts that i will share with you.
The Shelma hate, i believe, is mostly due to their portrait in SDMI where, for some reason, they decided to write Velma being THE ABSOLUTE WORSE to Shaggy doing things like, quoting directly from @frick-it-all-to-hecc og “Canon Lesbian Velma is good. Canon Lesbian Velma abusing her male partner is Bad” post (i will talk more about it later):
Belittling shaggy
Physically harming him
Isolating him from his best friend (in this case Scooby-Doo who has all the same importance and weight as human characters in the show)
Forcing him to be uncomfortable to fit her needs
Using her anger to manipulate him into doing what she wanted
Later they tried to retcon it being saying "it was supposed to feel wrong because Velma is a closeted lesbian" after the series ended but that shit doesn't fly for a number of reasons, one of them being that kind of narrative feeds into the predatory/evil gays trope (i already have a reblog of @frick-it-all-to-hecc post where i add to the discussion if you want to see it HERE)
Before Mystery Incorporated shat the bed, the Shelma shippers had good content to make their base.
In “Scooby Doo, Where are You?” Shaggy is the one that has Velma’s spare glasses with him. Velma knows when he is sick and has his medicine in her pockets.
In “Shaggy and Scooby Doo, Get a Clue” after spending a long period of time away from the gang, when they are reunited, Shaggy asks her to repeat “Jinkies” because he misses her saying it.
In the second live action movie “Scooby Doo 2, Monsters Unleashed” they have a beautiful heart to heart about how Velma views Shaggy and Scooby not as the screw ups they believe themselves to be but as free people that are not afraid of being who they truly are.
In “Be Cool Scooby Doo” they engage in each others interests (Shaggy engaging with a book about the history of the pretzel while Velma eats said pretzel)
The are other moments and interactions through out the 50 years that Scooby doo has been on the air (I recommend watching all of it to really get a grasp on the dynamics and free yourself from the pop culture understanding of things like, fun fact, on “Scooby Doo, Where are you?” the ones that were kidnapped the most where Shaggy and Scooby, not Daphne.)
The only thing stoping you from shipping Shelma are the following:
You don’t vibe with it.
You only watched SDMI and nothing else and assume you have a perfect grasp on 50 years on the franchise and the inner dynamics... somehow
and that’s it.
For me, with my poly gang, the dynamics grown and change the more i work with them but Shaggy and Velma are working with a mutual supporting relationship built over years together (some of that is build upon the canon, others are my own additions).
Sharing interests (Velma is deeply intrigued with magic and its properties and Shaggy, as a young wizard, loves sharing his researches with her), bonding over their experiences as older siblings, gardening together, doing sports together (Velma lifts weights aka Shaggy + some heavy books because the boy weights the same as a feather for her, while Shaggy does gymnastics over Velma’s strong shoulders Maybe i should draw this someday) and many little other things that are just theirs and many little other things that are theirs and Daphne’s and Fred’s.
That’s the thing I love the most about poly gang.
It’s a merry-go-round of love that spins and spins around its own axis, never faltering. Sometimes the spinning changes, going either way too fast or way too slow or sometimes it goes backwards or stops abruptly, sometimes it spins in a comfortable familiar rhythm and stays like that for a long time with only the songs changing to show that indeed time is passing around them.
And if one of them falls from their horse, knocked out by the sudden speed, the unexpected stops or just by sitting kinda weird on the saddle, they have the certainty that 3 other pairs of hands are going to be there to help them get on their mount again.

what kids comic / cartoon would u love to get the riverdale treatment? Personally I can't believe we haven't gotten a grim / goofy adaptation of scooby doo yet
I’m really really ignorant of American culture before a certain point like before Riverdale I’d only heard of the Betty versus Veronica thing and the sugar oh honey honey song, and it’s funny because rewatching a bunch of things now there are SO MANY Archie Comics references everywhere they meant nothing to me! ANYWAY to answer your question what led to Riverdale was a gay man with really BIZARRE interests who loved the comics writing a play where Archie comes out (the only normal part of it) and being ceased and desisted. That man is now the boss of Archie Comics but my point is we need SOMEONE out there to have an investment in something for kids that they developed as a child and which they connected to whichever marginalized identity they have. We need a trans kid who grew up with Scooby-Doo and wrote stories about Daphne being a trans woman and this person also needs to be obsessed with something else. Horror. The way narratives work and how we choose the pov of the stories we tell. The canonically cis characters giving extreme trans vibes while the canon trans character is underwritten because this person only thrives in undertones. and then we need to give that kid power and money. But yeah I do think they should do Scooby-Doo it’s serialized there’s a lot of canon already existing that goes a bunch of different ways (some is actually supernatural some isn’t!) a very repressed kid may have grown up with it and the potential to have it go viral would be enormous. My suggestion: make scooby a person the name of the show is mystery machine

I realised reading one of your posts, I think Psych! (2006) already is adult scooby doo, in the best sense possible.
Your ideas sound amazing and good too and I 10/10 would watch them, but I'd just like to hear your thoughts on this.
Tonally, yeah, I think Psych and my Scooby AU would be similar. Mostly lighthearted, but real stakes, the occasionally fairly serious episode. It'd end up being different in that the Scooby AU as I imagine it would include real ghosts sometimes, but the tone would definitely be close. Psych and Leverage are the sort of vibes that I imagine for a grown up Scooby Doo.

Sweet Pea//don't know if you love me or you want me dead
Request: I dunno if this'll go through or not but can i request a Sweet Pea/reader based on this text post, I can't find the original version lol
Tumblr media
hey! sweet pea imagine based off this ^. originally posted by @riverdalecentral, so thank you! its enemies to lovers!! which is a trope that i adore! (side note, if you ever see anything to do with enemies to lovers you can 100% just send it to me with literally no explanation and i absolutely will not mind). title is from ‘teeth’ by 5sos! i had so much fun writing this! i hope you all enjoy it! i also hope you’re all having a lovely day/night!
No matter where you are in the world, you never want to be in a forest at night. But if you live in Riverdale, thats just a given. Nobody in their right minds goes into Fox Forest at midnight, however, spending five minutes with Sweet Pea can make anyone go insane. And so here you are, trekking through the woods like you’re in some sort of shitty horror film.
“I can’t believe Jones has got us running around town like we’re in fucking Scooby Doo.” Sweet Pea huffs as the two of you walk through the trees. You let go of the branch you’re holding, and it narrowly avoids hitting Sweet Pea. You can feel the glare you’re getting and a small smirk twitches at your lips.
You and Sweet Pea have a complicated relationship to say the least. You’ve both been part of the serpents for the same amount of time. (You were actually initiated 5 minutes before him but he doesn’t like to admit that). You have grown up in the same trailer park, five trailers from each other and you share the same friends. But there’s just something about him that makes you want to stick pins in your eyes. And there’s something about you, that makes him want to repeatedly stub his toe every single minute of his life, rather than spend five minutes with you. So yeah, its complicated.
There’s been so much speculation around why you two hate each other. Fangs says its because you’re both too stubborn to actually have a proper conversation (whatever Fogarty). Toni says its because you secretly like each other (gross), and there was once a theory that it was because you had secretly dated and then broke up (again, you would rather stick pins in your eyes).
You just hated each other. That was it.
Although, despite the fact that spending five minutes in the same room with him makes you nauseous, he is kind of attractive. If you’re into the whole ‘bad boy, gang member, secretly soft at heart’ thing. Not that you’d ever admit that to anyone.
“You’re Shaggy!” “You’re Scooby.” You both say at the same time making your expression mirror his. You both glare at each other before reluctantly turning away and continuing to walk.
“If you’re implying that I’m lesser because I’m the dog...1. You’re an idiot. Everybody loves dogs and Scooby Doo is evidence of that. And 2. Scooby Doo is the main character. The whole franchise is named after him, making him the lead. He even has a snack named after him. Its Scooby’s world and we’re just living in it.”
“What. The. Fuck.” He stops and you roll your eyes, turning around to look at him.
“You know I’m right...Shaggy.” You shine your torch in his eyes and he squints before flipping you off.
“How am I Shaggy?”
“You give of major stoner vibes, you’re always eating and I never see you wear anything other than a dark t-shirt, black jeans and your serpent jacket.” You look him up and down and he huffs in response, crossing his arms over his chest.
“They all wear the same outfits...they’re cartoons.”
“True.” You nod. “But the other two are right. Plus, you’d be nothing without me.”
“I’d be a lot happier without you.” He replies and you send him a sarcastic smile back. He returns it and the two of you continue through the woods, your torches casting a variation of shadows against the tall trees. Its less like Scooby Doo and more like Blair Witch. And despite your company being Sweet Pea, you’d rather him than nobody.
You suddenly get the feeling your being watched, and the intensity of it makes you stop in your tracks, Sweet Pea soon catches up to you, stopping beside you and also looking around.
“What is it? Did you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror?” He teases and even though you’re absolutely terrified, you still find it in yourself to punch him in the arm.
“We’re in the middle of a forest. Where would I find a mirror?”
“I don’t know.” He shrugs. “I’ve found some weird things in the woods. I once found a pile of bones, a belt and a half eaten apple.”
“I-What?” You look up at him and he shrugs casually.
“To this day I have no idea why they were there. Although, the belt does look pretty good on.”
“Hm-Wait what?” You glance at his belt, the silver reflecting off the rays of your torch and he quickly looks away.
“Nothing.”
“What exactly are we looking for?” You ask, changing the subject.
“I dunno. Jughead just said ‘anything strange’.”
“In Riverdale? Yeah, that’ll be easy.” You huff before quickly pointing your torch to the side of you. Sweet Pea joins, the two of you silently listening and watching (and praying) that its just an owl. After a minute you both continue walking, this time in silence and you’re sure you’ve huddle a little closer to each other, but neither of you seem to mind.
Twigs snap underneath your shoes and a gust of wind makes the trees rustle around you. It makes you shiver, and you swear Sweet Pea pauses for just a second to look around. The whole atmosphere makes you feel suddenly claustrophobic, despite being in the great outdoors, and right now you’re unsure who you hate more, Sweet Pea...or Jughead.
“What did he mean by strange?” You whisper and look around again.
“I don’t know. Anything that could explain the weird going ons at his preppy new school.”
“Why would that have anything to do with the woods. They’re in the opposite direction of each other.”
“Ask Jones.” He holds his hands up defensively making you huff loudly. Your barely make it two steps before freezing again, Sweet Pea grunts as he walks into you but you don’t acknowledge him, too busy trying to decipher whether the noise you heard was a bird or a murderer.
“Did you hear that?”
“What!?” He looks around quickly and somehow, the two of you end up closer together than you were before. “Y/n, I swear to god, if you’re fucking with me, I will actually kill you.”
“Surprisingly, you don’t sound that threatening when I can feel you literally shaking beside me.”
“Shut up.”
“Why did Jones even pair us together. You’re about as much use as a wet sock.” You mutter angrily, but you cut yourself off when you see a shadow move out of the corner of your eye. Before you can stop yourself you’re reaching out for Sweet Pea, grabbing his arm and squeezing. “Sweet Pea?”
“Yep?” His doesn’t even hide the fear in his voice, and if you were in any other situation, you would have definitely made fun of him.
“Did you see that?”
“...yep.” He nods. “Do you think we should investigate?”
“Do you think we should investigate?” You mock. “Its like you want to get murdered.”
“A lot of people wouldn’t be opposed to that.”
“Getting murdered, or you specifically getting murdered.”
“Either, or.” He shrugs.
“I think at least a few people would miss you.” You reply and a smirk appears on his face.
“Am I dead? Have I already been murdered? Are you actually being nice to me?”
“We can find out if people would miss you if you want.” You smile sarcastically at him and he shoves you lightly. For a second, the two of you forget where you are and what you’re supposed to be doing. It feels light, even if you are being rude to each other, and you swear, for a split second, you feel yourself enjoying each others company. But of course, he ruins it.
“No thanks. I’m happy knowing that you’d miss me.”
“I never said tha-” He only looks away for a few seconds. He saw something move and he thought he’d check it out. But in the time that he turns around, that he pulls his eyes away from watching your lips as they say whatever sarcastic comment you’d come up with, you vanish. Your sentence being cut off.
He swears he’s never moved faster. Instantly he turns back around, shining the torch in every direction he can. It suddenly feels darker and the only thing he can hear is his heart beating in his throat. “Y/n?” It starts off as a whisper, unsure of what to do. But when you don’t answer, he manages to find his voice. “Where did you go? Y/n? I would very much like to hear your annoying voice.” His eyes close, despite every fibre of his body screaming at him not too. He’s seen horror films, he knows he shouldn’t close his eyes, but he needs to wish and prayer and do anything he can to find you.
“...sweet pea?” Your voice is quiet and trembling, but he hears it and his eyes snap open, frantically looking around.
“Y/-” Your name dies in his throat once he sees you, and he can’t speak anymore.
For as long as Sweet Pea can remember, he’s been day dreaming about you getting into traumatic accidents. There’s a running competition between the two of you, over who can come up with the most gruesome and violent end for the other.  Unfortunately he is winning due to a very traumatizing death that he said was inspired by both Saw and Final Destination.
Right now though, your actual life is in threat and he has never wanted anything less in his life.
A blonde, creepy looking boy around the same age as both of you holds you tight to him, one arm over your chest while the other holds a knife to your throat. There’s a dark haired girl stood beside him, also holding a knife, and even though she doesn’t look as intimidating as the blonde, it does nothing to make Sweet Pea feel better.
“Wow, Jones was too scared to find us himself he sent his lackeys to do his dirty work.”
“Let her go...please.” His voice breaks and he takes a careful step towards you. His hands already reaching into his pocket, desperately searching for his knife and brass knuckles, but he stops when he makes eye contact with the boy.
“And we are not his lackeys.” You protest, despite the knife digging into your skin further, and the hold on you becoming tighter.
Whatever Sweet Pea was feeling, whether it was fear, vulnerability or something in between completely disappears. And his gaze shifts from the man holding you, to you yourself, the same annoyed expression on his face. “Maybe focus on the knife being held to your throat, and then argue about what we are to Jughead.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.” You roll your eyes.
“Oh sorry for trying to save your life.”
“Save my life? You couldn’t even sav-”
“Is this a bad time? Do you want us to come back and kill you later orrr?” The girl asks sarcastically as she looks between you and Sweet Pea. Both of you look at each other before looking at the floor.
“Continue.” You grumble and you feel the knife slice into your skin. A small cry escapes your lips and Sweet Pea looks up quickly. You don’t think you’ve ever seen him look so frightened, and you definitely didn’t think you’d be on the receiving end of such a look, but there’s something about it that stirs something inside of you, in spite of the very inappropriate moment.
“Okay.” She says, twirling the knife in-between her fingers. “We can either do this the easy way, or the even easier way. We’re going to make it look like a fight that went wrong. And then we’ll stumble out of the woods, covered in blood, crying, saying that it was self defense.” She smiles wickedly.
“Even better idea, we don’t even have to be here. We could make it look like a fight between two gang members.”
“Hmmm.” You and Sweet Pea say at the same time. Both of you know it’s very rare that Serpents kill each other, so that wouldn’t work, but as soon as you look at each other after the collective thought, do you realize the mistake you made. Never say ‘hmm’ when faced with death.
“Aww, thanks for helping us plan your death.” The boy says. “So no to the fight between gang members. What about a fight between two lovers.”
“Ew.” You mutter.
“Gross.” Sweet Pea adds.
“I’d rather just die.” You shrug and Sweet Pea sends you a look.
“Y/n.” He sighs.
“Fine, we’ll just go with the fight.” The boy huffs, moving the knife to the other side of your neck and digging it in. Blood trickles down your chest making both you and Sweet Pea wince.
“You want to fight?” Your force the words out of your mouth and you can feel the look Sweet Pea is giving you. “Come on then, fight me.” The two of them exchange glances, they clearly weren’t expecting an answer from you. Whoever sent them to do this, definitely underestimated how stubborn serpents are, so maybe Fangs was right about you and Sweet Pea, maybe you were both too stubborn to get along.
The ten seconds that they’re distracted, gives you and Sweet Pea a chance to look at each other. A silent conversation happens between the two of you and even though you’re not entirely sure of what he’s saying, you just hope you got the basic idea and so you send him a nod.
While they’re distracted, Sweet Pea reaches into his pocket, slowly pulling his knife out, and as soon as they look back, you start your plan. Quickly you kick the guy as hard as you can in the shin making him fall and push you away from him, dropping the knife as he does. You swiftly pick it up and Sweet Pea uses the distraction to grab the girl, pressing his own knife against her neck.
You stand a few feet away from them, holding your own knife and the one you stole out in front of you.
“Touch her if you never want to see the light of day again.” He whispers in the girls ear and he sends a look to her weird friend that makes him stop in his tracks.
“Now.” You smile. “Do you want to do this the easy way, or the hard way?”
----
Dawn breaks as you both stumble out the forest. You’re covered in cuts and bruises, but thankfully you’ve stopped bleeding so you’ll take that as a win. Usually you enjoy beating up rich kids, its one of the few things you and Sweet Pea can bond over, but right now you just want to go home.
They may have been preppy, but they definitely knew what they were doing. And they’d managed to escape, slipping away from you and through the trees. They may have gotten away, but they were barley in one piece, and so you figured that would be enough to bide Jughead some time with whatever he was planning.
There’s a togetherness about fighting. For a while you, both you and Sweet Pea were sure you were going to die in there, and so now that you’re walking through the sleepy streets of the town, there’s a part of you thats glad the other made it out.
They say fighting changes you. It awakens something in you. Usually that something is hate or anger, but both of you already have enough of that.
No, this is something else.
Respect for the other? Or maybe fondness? Whatever it is, its new and it swirls around the both of you, leaving you unsure of how to act. So you walk to Jughead’s house in silence, your arms brushing gently against each other every so often.
Jughead’s house is quiet as the two of you walk through the front door. The Jones/Cooper house is full, serpents mill about the place, with either food or drinks in their hands. And Jughead is in the middle of them, stood right in the centre of the living room. It seems you and Sweet Pea weren’t the only people sent to their deaths last night.
Everyone looks surprised as you walk into the living room. They probably expected at least one of you to be dead, whether that was because of something is the woods, or one of you, its surprising to see you two alive, with just a few cuts and bruises.
“Did you guys find anything weird.”
“Oh, you know. The usual.” You shrug. Jughead nods, deciding to talk to you about it in private later on. And so he starts talking to the group again, you and Sweet Pea practically blending into the background. But there’s a definite shift in atmosphere.
Usually when you and Sweet Pea are in a room together there’s tension, and everybody is aware of it. But this time, its different. It feels light, despite the tense subject being discussed. Everyone can feel the change, but nobody can figure out what it is.
Only you and Sweet Pea know what has changed. And as he squeezes your hand in his, a soft smile appearing on his face as he looks at you, you have a feeling a lot more things are going to change. Some of them may not be for the good, it seems like there’s a lot more to be uncovered in Riverdale, but one things for sure, you’re glad Sweet Pea is by your side for it.

LGBT Book Recs
F/F version
Historical
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters: victorian thief pretending to be a maid and a lady fall in love and keep betraying each other and being sad. lots of plot twists/insane asylums/creepy old houses/gothic vibes. the book that inspired the handmaiden movie. happy ending after a lot of angst!
Sci-Fi
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero: scooby-doo meets eldritch horror. the grown-up survivors (and one ghost) of a kid-detective team realize they never REALLY solved their last case. very creative and entertaining writing style. happy ending!
The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow: in the distant future, the world is controlled by an AI who ensures peace by taking world leaders’ children hostage. If war breaks out, they die. not as cheesy as it sounds. very exciting, I read it in two days, lots of tricky moral decisions and tension. kind of ambiguous ending because it’s a series but love saves the day! :)
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers: honestly not my favorite but I know some people really love it. a very laid back space opera about a misfit spaceship crew and a new clerk with a secret. I honestly cannot remember the ending but I think it was happy-ish?
Wilder Girls by Rory Power: good but WACK. very gothic. isolated girls’ school on an island is slowly being taken over by this weird disease/rot/alien thing. there’s moral ambiguity galore! evil government! strong female friendships! ambiguous ending.
Contemporary
Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira: f/f couple is a side plot but its cute. protagonist is a troubled young girl entering high school, falling in love, growing up. very sad but has a happy ending.
Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore: calling this contemporary is a huge stretch because each section of the book is written in a different genre and has a different ending. sounds confusing but it really works-my favorites were gothic horror and fantasy but they all weave into each other in really cool ways. very sweet and entertaining style. bi protagonist. some endings are happy and some are not but you’re kind of signing up for that.
This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp: weird, pretty dark novel I borrowed from a friend about a school shooter. very tense and depressing but beautifully written. ambiguous/unhappy ending.
Fantasy
Elegy and Swansong by Vale Aida: EXCELLENT series (also has m/m romance). the lesbians are extremely machiavellian and morally questionable but frankly also very hot. very exciting w/ lots of twists and warring fantasy nations. if you’ve ever read Dorothy Dunnett’s work it’s like that but w/ strong female characters. happy ending for the second one!
The Tiger’s Daughter by K Arsenault Rivera: reading this right now, so idk about the ending but I think it’s the first in a series. princesses who fight demons are in love! gorgeous prose w/o a lot of action. strong song of achilles vibes if you’ve read that.
Honorable Mentions
Sadie by Courtney Summers: has like one lesbian kiss but I really liked it generally! very tense story about a girl chasing her sister’s murderer w/ an accompanying podcast investigating her disappearance months later. very dark and unhappy ending.
Rock and Riot by Chelsey Furedi: actually a webcomic! very cute and free online. has m/m romance also. happy ending.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: I think there is a lesbian couple mentioned at one point? I read it a very long time ago. warring victorian magicians- pretty good. kind of like Kate dicamillo. ambiguous ending I think?
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf: I was supposed to read this for school and I did not, but its a classic and one of the first novels to address women’s sexuality so openly. very tricky to read because it’s all stream of consciousness but most people agree the protagonist is bi.

“ 𝐻𝓊𝓏𝓏𝒶𝒽! ” There’s officially 400 of you following my dear fish princess! When I started this blog, I never thought I would’ve gotten this far, but this community has been so welcoming and supportive. It’s truly been a joy to write with everyone, and I never would’ve gotten here if it weren’t for all of you encouraging me and my writing. Writing an underappreciated character, and especially with the amount of my canon divergence, brought me to always assume that I’d have a much smaller audience for it - and I’m glad to say that I’ve been proven wrong!
But really, I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere near where I am today without the sheer amount of creativity and talent already present in the rpc. Every day I am blown away by the sheer amount of work that is being put into blogs and muses both, and every day I am awestruck at the replies that I read! And you’ve been there through thick and thin, so I think it’s about time I give a little back and show my appreciation.
          👑 The Low Royals
For those of you who have been with me the longest, who have seen the growth and fine-tuning, and even potentially helped me shape this blog into what it is now - I raise a glass to you! You’re all my good friends, and I can thank none of you enough. I truly do appreciate and care for all of you, though I might be bad at saying it. You’ve all made me laugh, and cry, and feel ten thousand other emotions, and I can only hope to support all of you the same as you’ve supported me.
Tam / @necrodanger / @ruiincd / @rebeljest : You have been here from the beginning, and for that, you are the first upon this list. Where would I be without your help? When my Miranda first started interacting with your Val, much like the princess not knowing how deeply she’d fall in love with the pauper, I did not know how such a wonderful friendship would grow between us. You have been through Hell together with me, and though I may stumble, I trust you. Your companionship has been crucial to so much here, and I can only hope that I have helped you grow as much as you have helped me. You are irreplaceable in your talent and creativity, and you know I look forward to everything you write, all that you draw, and every day that I get to chat with you over Discord. I can never thank you enough, and I am truly in your debt!
Jeremy / @grave-risen / @lioncovrte / @covenwtch / @amalgaemate : Jerm!!! Gosh, what praises can’t I sing of you and your excellent muses? Your characterization is spot on - there’s just such a warmth that you breathe into all of the characters you handle. They truly take on a life of their own in such a special way, with all the unique pitfalls and challenges that come with them! You have such fine little details that I love to see in each individual personality and your devotion to detail is to be admired. Likewise, you’re someone who I know I can trust, as that warmth truly spreads over into you yourself, and you’re just such a welcoming and genuine friend that I know I can just vibe with without any pressure. I really do love the plots we’ve done so far, and really look forward to seeing how Brian and Miranda handle becoming friends again. I may tease about him being a snack, but you know I’m here for all of the emotional curveballs you can throw at me!
Shorp / @pasttorn : I might be bad at chatting you up recently - but as always, you know I adore your Damien and all of the drama that he can cause! He’s a shit-stirrer of a muse, and you know I love the way you write, which together is just a perfect combination for a great time! You’ve also been around a bit longer in the rpc so you’ve seen some shit, and you’ve seen me reboot this blog and remake my lore. And for that, for sticking through as I went completely off the rails, I think that’s a pretty good summary of you! Chill, supportive, and sweet, a good pal all around to just vibe with and have some fun creative blends with!
Lola / @monstersmashed : AH... Oh, how Miranda loves her Marcus, and how I adore all the OCs you make! What kind of talent is it to be able to make so many unique OCs and have them all be so individual in such a way that really shows the quirks that makes each and every one special, and where can I get some of that? I remember Junie when she was much, much newer in the rpc, and I swear my adoration for what you can do with an interesting concept has only grown!! I sincerely love plotting with you and working out how your darlings can interact with my three disasters, and just absolutely a good friend all around.
Oli / @mindsmelded : OLI! I know you’re inactive right now (and honestly, I don’t blame you) but I GOTTA give you my love too! Every single reply from you just gets me EXCITED to read, with how you handle your muses! There’s just a passion and a flow to your prose that I love, and I truly admire how you can detail out exactly how each muse thinks in such a unique style that, even if you didn’t give a name or pronouns, you know EXACTLY which muse is responding! I admire you for that, and really that’s such a valuable skill that I want to master in my own writing too! You’re overall just such a supportive sweetheart who I can trust to talk to, and expect plenty of wholesome memes in return as a pick-me-up!
        👑 The Middle Royals
Here is to all who I roleplay regularly with, but maybe don’t chat up as often as I’d like on Discord or through messages, or maybe just haven’t known as long as others. You have such excellent characters that I love to see interact with my fish princess, and I can’t wait to talk to you more! Some have budding relationships with your muse and Miranda that I can’t wait to see blossom into something complex and special all on their own, but all have just wonderful muses who I highly recommend you give a follow if you haven’t already! There’s a truly special amount of care being put into their writing, and I cannot recommend them enough.
Raz / @superbeaucoupdevisages : Honestly I didn’t expect to start to ship Oz and Miranda, but, WHELP, it happened!!! And I’m glad it did, honestly, because these two? Cute. Very cute!! With a whole lot of potential for angst and lore-exploring too! And really, I’m looking forward to it, because the way you write is simple and concise, which leaves it wonderfully IMPACTFUL. It’s short, sweet, and hits right where it hurts!! Which could honestly be said the same as you, as you know how to make your ideas known in as few words as possible. You know how to be there without the need for pretense, and sometimes you really do need someone to be there to get to the heart of issues, and for that, I thank you!
Hannah / @ciiclops / @bingemuscs : Probably the odd one out here as we have known about each other for quite a while, predating my reboot, but we’ve only recently really gotten around to chatting, which is a SHAME. I love just being able to infodump with you about my lovely, lovely arachnids, and Iris has always been such a charm to interact with!! I can’t wait to see how she might interact more with Miranda and how they might get along, as I’m really just a sucker for nerd and prep friendships (or maybe even something more) !!!
Zac / @collectathon : Can I just say that I’m super excited for your Zoe muse already? There’s so much to get into still, and she’s pretty new in terms of Miranda’s interactions, but I can’t WAIT to see what happens! Especially with all the ties Miranda has to the eldritch... Plus, I know to go to you for a good time, and I don’t think I’ll get over Miranda trying to frame Scooby Doo for arson anytime soon! You’re a wonderful friend with such a passion that I look forward to talking to more!
June / @preparetodie / @fullofschmidt : Is it bad to say I genuinely didn’t think much of Aaravi until I found your blog? Because I kinda did! But you have taught me to appreciate and love this fiesty AND VERY SAD slayer in a way I never have before, with such introspections on her character that I haven’t even thought about before recently! Similarly, your Vicky? STUNNING. She’s special in her own way, and honestly I can’t wait to discover more about her. Likewise, I’m looking forward to both of them learning more of Miranda’s specific secrets, and all of the fun turmoil that comes with that! (Plus, your art? So lovely!!! I might just have to commission you sometime!)
Hari / @warraigoe : I love! Your Damien! He’s honestly really funny, and sometimes even I can forget how lighthearted the actual tone of Monster Prom can be - so I think having something a little lighter is really good! Certainly, Miranda appreciates it, pfft! Your passion for writing really comes through, and I gotta say I really admire you going the extra mile to really get people similarly excited for something too! You’re someone who I really would like to chat and write with more often, if only my energy could pan out, because you’re honestly just that interesting! Good vibes, great times all around!
Josie / @galaxietm : We haven’t gotten the chance to write much together yet, but the amount of excitement I get from being able to write with you in the future is telling as to the quality that I’ve observed so far! You really do have just a smooth, chill demeanor to you that I can’t help but get really excited to be able to plot with you, and from what we’ve been able to do so far, it’s been looking really promising for things-to-come with Vera and Miranda! And from what I’ve seen of your prose? Similarly silky-smooth, flows as easy as a river, and just really something that I can’t wait to see more of, along with getting to know you more!
Nigel / @1-0-1-9 : YOU!!! Us meeting on Twitter was such a lovely chance meeting, and your friendship truly was a great birthday gift! I don’t show near as much love to your muse as I wish I did, because gosh you really do care about him and it shows! You’re someone who I could chat with all night though, and you bring up so many things I haven’t quite thought of yet! I really do appreciate having someone there who I can bounce ideas off of regularly, and you’re just excellent for that. You say you’re a dog in a human’s body, and tbh? I absolutely believe that with just how friendly you are!
Mori / @roskaarotta : Molly is one of those OCs who I can just immediately pick out as one of my favorites, with the amount of care you’ve gone into in making her! Your writing with her is a lot like how I see your art with her - absolutely soaked in a killer atmosphere that you can’t get anywhere else. I love how you took demons/angels and put a bit of yourself into them, and the character drama you write is to die for! I love hearing all of Molly’s backstory and really get a grasp of her personality, and you KNOW Miranda loves her Raccoon Wife!!
Rilli / @empatheticxangel / @marquisxofxlove : Speaking of which - YOU ARE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF SOME OF MY FAVORITE OCs! Liam is such a darling, and you’re another big inspiration in me furthering my own lore! The amount of detail you work with for Liam is awe-inspiring, and I truly love hearing about how his world works and the history it has, alongside his own unique biology! The way you handle his powers is legitimately something I haven’t seen done before, and I think that really just goes to show exactly how much consideration and love is really going into developing him. Not to mention - you DRAW all your icons!! Like, DAMN.
Dani / @candyredmuses / @pxppinmolly / @bluemoonmuses : DANI. NERD. DORK. FELLOW MUN OF A PINK PRINCESS. I cannot say how much I appreciate you! And though we might not chat it up as regularly as some others (basically until I find a meme or song that reminds me of you) - you are on my mind!! Your work on character development CANNOT BE OVERSTATED. I think about Molly and your work on her so often, and she truly inspires me to further work on Miranda and put all the more thought into detailing her out! I might be a cryptid, but you can sight me anyday! (And bonus points for ALSO BEING A FELLOW HORROR-LOVER.)
        👑 The High Royals
And here’s to all who I don’t know as well! Who I see on my dash or maybe have a thread or interaction or two with, but don’t chat OOC with that often or that Miranda isn’t totally established with yet! I see you, and I appreciate all that you’re doing and all of the effort that goes into your art and writing, and I look forward to the friendships and further interactions that can come of this!
If you’ve gotten this far and you haven’t been mentioned, then I’m sorry! You’re totally free to leave a comment or somesuch, shaming me for being as forgetful as I am, because you’re really all so wonderful, and I would love to shout everyone out if it weren’t for my bad memory! I love all of you so much, and I’d sincerely like to thank everyone reading this, for getting to this milestone together!

I guess unpopular opinion time? And Ig spoilers? Don’t read if you don’t want, and please don’t hate people for their opinions, this is literally a movie, kids.
As someone who grew up with Scooby Doo, who started with the original, old show, I honestly liked the movie a ton! I absolutely loved the tie in to other old cartoons from when the first show started! I got a Wacky Races vibe from it, and I don’t mean the 2017 reboot, I mean the original 1968 show. I loved seeing all these characters I’ve grown to love as 3d models.  And to people who say the animation was lazy, and the ones who say they over did it with sound affects: I honestly felt like it was just another Scooby movie. Like they were taking a normal Scooby episode and making it 3d. Normal Scooby has TONS of weird sounds and moments, and I loved seeing it transformed into this. The animation felt like they were just using 3d models to act like the characters would in the normal 2d show. I know tons of people won’t like or enjoy that, but I really did enjoy it. I honestly cried.
If you haven’t seen it, I really suggest giving it a chance! Even if you know nothing about Scooby Doo or the older cartoon generation, it was a cute and fun movie.
