The Glow Up Game
Part One: Pretty on the Outside
A comprehensive guide to getting your shit together. You heard me. We are done standing on the sidelines, looking at people living their dream lives being rich and hot and happy. WE'RE DONE.
This is a long guide, filled with pointers covering EVERYTHING regarding physical glow-ups. I'll be editing it and reblogging it whenever I come across new ideas and information. It covers everything from head to toe. I mean this literally.
Note: This is for people who want to do glow up physically. It is totally your choice to do anything you want to/don't want to on this list. We live in a world full of unfair beauty standards, and instead of being angry about it, I'm going to exploit the hell out of it.
Are you ready to change yourself? Here we go.
The absolute basics: These are lifestyle changes you're going to implement. Non-negotiable.
Go exercise: Don't look at me like that. This isn't optional. Find a way to move your body so you like it and you're actually breaking a sweat. Leisurely walking on the treadmill does not count, half-hearted zumba does not count. Whatever you're doing, it has to make you SWEAT. A good figure is earned. Trust me when I say you'll feel better, and like what you see in the mirror.
Change your diet: Enough sugar. Toss the soda out, and chuck out your candy stash. You really don't need it. Craving something sweet? Make a batch of healthy, homemade dessert. Or have a piece of fruit. I'm not kidding when I say the kitchen is where you make the biggest lifestyle change. It will be HARD, but every McChicken you say no to, is good for your HEALTH. You want to live longer? Cut out the takeout and heavily processed foods.
Fix your sleep cycle: Sleep is so important, and I think people overlook it so much. All your hard work is wasted if you don't sleep well. Your skin will break out, and your body will refuse to change even if you exercise. SLEEP WELL. Create a nighttime routine and stick to it. Make sure you have at least 7 hours of sleep as a minimum.
Create a skincare routine: Take off your makeup every day. And have a good skincare routine. Cleanse, moisturize and apply whatever you usually do. Exfoliate twice a week and stop touching your face. I also drink an ABC smoothie (Apple+Beetroot+Carrot+Water). This does wonders.
Use sunscreen: I cannot stress this enough. Skin cancer is real, and it will get you if you don't wear sunscreen. Use something higher than SPF 50 and use it religiously. Make sure to get your earlobes, chest and back of your neck. Cover every inch of your skin that will be exposed to the sun.
Drink your water: 3 litres of water per day. You will be amazed at the results. Your skin will clear, your breath won't stink and you won't be dehydrated. This shit works, and there's a reason everyone recommends it. Drink your water.
Moving on to each itty-bitty detail.
Eyes: SLEEP. You want your eyes to look fresh? No pesky dark circles? Get your sleep cycle right. No more late nights. Hot girls sleep on time.
Nose: Those blackhead-looking things are natural, they're called sebaceous filaments. And, no you can't get rid of them. But you can minimize them. Cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate. Don't pick at your skin.
Lips: Don't bite them anymore, for God's sake. You're going to make sure they're chapped beyond belief. Use lip balm religiously and don't overuse lipstick. Your lips WILL get discoloured when you're older. Use a light lip tint, and lip balm/gloss.
Eyebrows: If you want to shape them, go to the hairdresser and get it done.
Facial hair: As someone with naturally dark, thick hair I have a lot of noticeable facial hair. I'm planning on getting it lasered soon. Find a way that works for you and is affordable.
Body hair: I have zero self-consciousness about my arm and leg hair, so I have no desire to shave or wax it. I do wax my underarms, because of ridiculously thick growth. Understand that this is a personal choice, and you do not have to do this if you're unwilling.
Nails: Keep them short or long, always filed and CLEAN. Do not let grime or dirt build-up underneath. Don't keep your nails painted 24/7, it will 100% lead to yellowing. Give your nails some time to breathe between every manicure. When they aren't painted, keep them filed and presentable.
Hair: I have Type 3a curly hair, so my hair routine is tailored to suit me. But what I can tell you is wash your hair at least 1x a week, use sun protectant, and oil your hair before wash day(it works). And use heat on your hair SPARINGLY. If you want to colour you can, but remember it does lead to long term damage, brittleness and bad texture. Get your hair cut every 3-4 months with a trusted hairdresser. Keep switching up hairstyles and do not stick to a single part (middle part, side part) constantly because it can lead to thinning of hair there.
Acne: STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE I am begging you. Touching your face with grimy hands is a recipe for acne. Cleanse everyday, moisturize heavily and go to a dermatologist if it gets worse.
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED
Go live your best life. You deserve everything, and you shouldn't let anything stand in your way, not even yourself. Now GO, you've got shit to do.
xoxo

in your opinion, which american sunscreens are the best for defeating the sun then? i honestly don't even know where to start when looking for a daily sunscreen
sO firstly, disclaimer: not an expert, just kinda hyperfixated on sunscreen rn for some fucking reason
but ok with that out of the way the thing is there's a few layers to this.
there's two main categories of sunscreen, physical and chemical.
physical sunscreens include inorganic filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. these are FDA approved, photostable, and provide broad-spectrum UV protection*. however, these ingredients tend to leave a white cast behind on your skin and in my experience feel disgusting. if you're not bothered by these drawbacks and/or need a cheaper option these types of sunscreen work perfectly fine and are available in basically any drugstore in the US
chemical sunscreens (usually) leave no white cast and can be much more comfortable to wear provided they don't irritate your skin, but are more likely to contain ingredients that aren't photostable. this list covers most of them and how stable they are if you want to really inspect the ingredients list on a sunscreen you're trying out.
however this page from the skincareAddiction subreddit has a very handy list of resources for finding the right sunscreen and a list of recommendations to look through (pictures included bc i literally never click links in posts lmao)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a lot of these recs are imports and do contain some ~fancier~ chemical filters the FDA hasn't approved yet, but obviously they tend to be more expensive for it. my current favorite sunscreen is the Nivea Sun Protect Super Water Gel. i may have to order it all the way from japan but it feels like Literally Nothing and i am therefore actually willing to put it on my face every day. i’ve learned from years of trying that my brain simply will not allow me to form a sunscreen wearing habit if wearing sunscreen makes my face feel gross. is this picky and high maintenance of me? who cares, there's no reward waiting at the end of discomfort and self-discipline is a myth peddled by the bourgeoisie to sell more oligarchs. at least i actually use this stuff
*another big gripe i have with US sunscreens is that they're not required to specify their level of UVA protection. something labeled 'spf 50' is only referring to UVB protection and doesn't cover UVA at all unless the label specifies 'full spectrum', which tells you there's at least some UVA protection but not how much

guys listen in korea. they don't sell sunscreen like they do in america. I have not found a single lotion or spray on par with america. it might say spf 50 but it is not spf 50. and the only ones that are Easy to find are for your face. so listen. yesterday. at lovesome. where I was sitting in direct. beating. intense. sunlight for 4 hours. instead of lathering my entire body using my tiny bottle of face sunscreen. I decided to wear pants and long sleeves. this worked. minus the fact that I was literally dripping sweat off every inch of my body. but anyways. I did not burn anywhere my skin was covered. however. the skin under the rips in my jeans. my forearms. and my face. are. SO FUCKING BURNT IM SUFFERING SO BADLY I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN OH MY GOD I DONT THINK IVE EVER HAD SUNBURN ON MY HANDS BEFORE THIS IS AGONY

For @ephdraws who requested two different prompts that I confused and wrote as one. Oops? It’s Robin/Death from my Apocalypse Nigh Universe and they are at the beach. Chaos ensues. Literally.
Family Outings
“Exactly how long are we going to stay?” Death asks as he surveys the assortment of items he has helped Robin haul out here, along with the rest of Robin’s family.
They have claimed a strip of the beach, and given the amount of accessories and number of people in their party, he’s also not surprised the other beachgoers have given them a wide berth. He counts no less than a half-dozen coolers, enough chairs for every member of the family, with umbrellas to match, a portable playpen for the toddler, and two rolling wagons overflowing with toys and floaties.
There’s even a tent, which Teddy and Kayla are in the process of wrestling into shape while their Mother oversees and their Father marks out the perfect location for the portable grill.
“Oh, this? Well, we didn’t bring enough to camp overnight, so we’ll probably leave about nine, ten-ish,” Robin says as he spreads his towel over his beach chair and uses clips to keep the wind from blowing it away.
He’s already stripped down to his swim shorts, which are rainbow-striped, tight-fitting, and leave very little to the imagination. They aren’t Speedos, according to Robin, but Teddy had snorted and said they might as well be.
Death, by contrast, is wearing a very sensible pair of shorts that fall to his knees, and a long-sleeved water resistant shirt his sister had reassured him was meant for swimming. His contribution to the beach day trip had been to bring his own towel and a water bottle.
Clearly, he hadn’t understood what Robin meant by “small trip to the beach, just for the day, it’s pretty casual, believe me, you’ll have fun!”
This.
This is not casual.
“Esperance! Emmanuel! Get over here and get some sunscreen before you hit the water!” Robin’s mother hollers, her voice quite clear despite the noise of them apparently moving onto the beach for the day.
“And make sure you get your floaties!” Teddy shouts before he curses and digs in the sand for something he must have dropped. “Robin, keep an eye on them, please,” he throws over his shoulder.
Robin rolls his eyes, turns his head and shouts, “Opal! Watch the kids!”
“I’m busy!” Opal, Robin’s sister barks. She’s perched in a beach chair, glasses on, sunhat on, umbrella pulled low, with a book in her lap. And as Death watches, she primly inserts a set of ear buds and proceeds to ignore her entire family.
“So am I!” Robin shouts back before he smiles at Death and takes Death’s towel from his unresisting hands. “This is really your first time at the beach?”
“I have been on beaches,” Death says as he watches Robin lay out the towel and pin it into place as well. “But not to enjoy them.”
Robin rakes his hand through his hair. “What was it? Some kind of trash clean-up?”
Death does his best not to think about June 6th, 1944. “Something like that,” he hedges and waves away the memories. “Your family likes to be prepared, I see.”
“Yeah, that’s Mom’s influence.” Robin tugs Death over to his chair and urges him to sit. “She’s all about having contingency plans for her contingency plans.” His eyes narrow as he looks Death -- or Tristan for that matter -- up and down. “Dude, you are so pale. I’m going to have to slather you in sunscreen.”
Death cannot burn, but Tristan should be protected. “I didn’t bring any unfortunately. It seems I am very ill-prepared for this.”
“No sweat. I’ve got you covered.” Robin grabs the bag he’d tucked under his own chair and rifles through it, tossing out several random bottles, a book, a flattened sphere of rubber, three granola bars, and a spare pair of sandals. “Ah. Knew it was in here somewhere.”
He emerges triumphant with a bottle of something labeled SPF 50. “Are you going to wear that shirt the whole time?”
“I can’t swim in it?” Death asks. He thought he’d chosen an average, appealing shape, but he feels as though he pales in comparison next to Robin.
“Well, you can if you want to. I just thought you might get hot.” Robin grins and kneels on the beach chair behind Death, carefully balancing his weight. “But if you’re not comfortable baring that much skin, it’s fine. I should still get the back of your neck though.”
“I see.” Death obediently tips his head forward as there’s a squelch of something liquid behind him.
“Oh, and your face and your legs and your hands and the tops of your feet,” Robin continues as the first cool touch lands on Tristan’s nape and he shivers. “Then again, if you burn, I get to take care of you with a nice bottle of aloe vera.”
Death can’t burn. But he may need to pretend to.
“I would prefer not to burn,” he says.
“Yeah, fair. It really sucks.” Robin rests his hands on Tristan’s shoulder and leans around him, face inches away, smelling like coconut and sunshine. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. This is going to be fun.”
Death squints into the distance, where he swears he sees Chaos approaching, with a wide-brimmed sun hat and a brightly colored beach bag slung over her shoulder. She notices him notice her and waves.
“Right,” he says weakly. “Fun.”

Name: Mamonde Everyday Sun Stick SPF 50+++
Amount: 20g
Scent: Subtle, lingering "sunscreen” scent.
ingredients: Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Octinoxate, Silica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Cetearyl Nonanoate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Squalane, Hydrogenated C6-14 Olefin Polymers, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Titanium Dioxide, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Fragrance, Aluminum Stearate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Water, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Alumina, Glycerin, Madecassoside, Sucrose, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Extract, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Potassium Sorbate, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Indole Acetic Acid
Sun screen. Sun cream. Sun essence. Sun milk. Even sun balm. It's time for sun stick.
Firstly, this is a mineral a.k.a physical sunscreen-- the favored one compared to chemical sunscreens. This is because physical sunscreens uses natural minerals that sits on your skin, rather than being absorbed into skin.
I love stick sunscreens because they're ridiculously easy- no need to squeeze out drops in your palm, dot them on your skin, over or under-estimating the amount and wondering if you applied too little or too much. Is there too much when it comes to sun protection?
Sidenote: There isn't, but you should know applying sunscreens with different SPF in layers won't increase the SPF protection. A 30+ SPF sunscreen added on top of a 50+ SPF one won't give you 80+ SPF. Capiche?
The texture is not sticky and leans on the drier side. Applying it, you might not feel it on your skin and wonder if you’ve covered your entire face... at least that’s the problem I have. I tend to add a second layer, just to be safe. I kind of enjoy the experience of applying it, anyway, feels like a massage.
Tumblr media
The stick looks dangerously edible. Anyway, 20g might not seem like a lot but that's the standard for most sunsticks, and for a reason. From my experience they last just as long as cream or water or milk or what-have-you sunscreens of more or less the same size, like the Biore ones for instance.
Oily skinned folks would like this. Dry skinned people can give it a try, too, though. It's very light and soft, you wouldn't feel it on your skin. Application is crazy easy... literally just swipe it on.
Verdict: It's so easy. Quick and smooth application, light feeling on the skin, no fragrance, soft texture. What else do you need in a sunscreenstick?

A Beginners Guide to Anti-Aging: New to anti-aging products? Ingredients, Routine, and Application Tips
The world of skincare is a vast and often overwhelming one where the process of purchasing the right products feels much like searching for needles in a haystack. By the time you hit your mid-twenties, your skin’s needs change, and you’ll likely find yourself tempted by bold marketing lingo that promises to “Lift and Plump!” or “Farewell Wrinkles!” The truth is, much like our hair colours, body shapes and personalities, our skin types are unique and individually effected by internal and external skin agers. Therefore, the manner in which we approach our anti-aging skincare routines should be personal and considered.
Skin care expert and Founding Director of UW Collective, Annabelle Personeni has engineered anti-aging products for Johnson & Johnson, Yves Rocher and A’kin. Annabelle explains that while we’re incapable of changing our genetic makeup, we do have sway over a number of external aging contributors, such as exposure to the sun, lack of sleep, smoking and diet choices. According to Personeni, a good anti-aging product “will contain high levels of antioxidants and will have a base which will deeply hydrate the skin and reinforce its barrier integrity.”
We’ve cut through the noise and compiled a basic guide on how to develop your very first anti-aging skincare routine – one suitable for all skin types.
 THE FIVE PRODUCTS YOU NEED
In the simplest terms, every skincare routine (especially one targeted towards anti ageing should contain: Cleanser (and a double cleanse at that), an Exfoliant, Serum, Moisturiser, and the biggest essential of all: Sunscreen.
Tumblr media
 CLEANSER TIMES TWO
Cleansing contributes positively to our skin’s natural renewal cycle. Gently cleansing the skin both in the morning and before bed counteracts the havoc numerous external aggravators can play at a surface level; aggravators including pollution, indoor heating, dirt and makeup. Immediate signs of neglect often include clogged pores, an uneven tone, and dullness. Personeni advises, “it is important to choose cleansing products which respect the skin lipids, the skin pH and the natural microflora,” whereby the fewer additives your products contain, the better your skin will likely react. Opt for cream and oil cleansers in place of ‘soapier’ alternatives that tend to dry skin out (try Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser or Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser). This first step will "melt" away the bulk of your makeup without stripping the skin. Follow up with a gentle cleanser, micellar waters work great, try Bioderma’s Sensibio H20 Make-up Removing Micelle Solution or Sisley’s Eau Efficace Gentle Makeup Remover.
TIP: Be mindful when cleansing your eye area. Skin is thin and your eyes are more susceptible to irritation if exposed to chemicals.
Tumblr media
 AN EFFECTIVE EXFOLIATOR
Exfoliating the skin two-three times per week takes the benefits of cleansing to a deeper level (literally and figuratively). While we often pinpoint the earliest sign of aging to be the development of fine lines, Personeni notes that it’s actually the subtle changes to the skin’s structure and colour that really play a part, whereby “pores become enlarged, the skin surface doesn’t reflect light as well, and starts to yellow”. For a cleanse that is effective without being rough and corase on the skin, try exfoliators containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), like Glycolic or Lactic Acids, also designed to clear away dead skin cells for an evenly pigmented complexion (Chemical Exfoliants: Breakdown and Product Recommendations) AHAs are proven to shorten the skin’s renewal cycle from 28 to 16-20 days, Personeni explains, thereby getting your skin fresher, faster. The trick is to incorporate an AHA-based exfoliator into your routine for a couple of months at a time only (for example, in the lead up to a special event), because eventually your skin will adapt and results will subside. Try Alpha-H’s acclaimed Liquid Gold or Wander Beauty Fast Lane Instant Facial
Tumblr media
SUPER SERUM
Often misunderstood yet highly effective, serums are fine liquids designed to plump the skin and target unique concerns. Lighter in consistency than traditional creams and lotions, serums contain tiny molecules that penetrate the skin deeply, providing reparative ingredients to unexposed dermal layers. This process is especially effective when using thin water-based serums gently pressed (not rubbed) into the skin post-cleansing. There are umpteen serums available, so it’s helpful to first identify what it is you’d like to achieve for your skin before ‘Adding to Cart’. As a general starting point, Personeni suggests trying a serum containing plant extracts “which are rich in flavonoids” as they are good “’free radical catchers” and will help protect the skin against the effect of pollution and light”. A great product for this is Innisfree’s Green Tea Seed Serum. Once you become familiar with how a serum works and feels, take your time to research what ingredients will respond best with your skin.
TIP: ”To me, skin care is a tactile business,” Personeni says on her preferred application method. “Our hands know our face, and massaging the skin gently with our fingers and warm palm of the hand is a wholesome way to be in tune with our skin, feel the life in it, be one with it!”
Tumblr media
 MOISTURISER
Applying a moisturiser is often the first step we take in attempting to slow the skin’s aging process. We’re huge advocates of this, however it would be remiss to choose just any cream to apply. At the first signs of aging, Personeni recommends sourcing products rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory actives that “will help neutralise free radicals and pathways involved in the damage of skin’s vital structures.” Ultimately, you’ll see greater benefit from building the integrity of your skin at this early stage, rather than trying to reverse any pre-existing problems. Look out for moisturisers – whether in the form of a cream, lotion or gel – that contain any one or more of the following: vitamin E (to repair), vitamin C (to lighten), beta carotene/vitamin A (to divert UVA exposure), and Lycopene (to protect). “By keeping my skin at its optimal health level, it is in a much better position to defend itself against environmental damage,” Personeni explains. Try REN V-Cense Revitalising Night Cream to tick multiple boxes in one.
Got acne, but want anti ageing benefits? It’s also not uncommon to experience multiple skin concerns at once (particularly in your twenties while your body goes through varied hormonal highs and lows). If you’re one of many of us trying to stave off adult acne, search for creams containing Niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3 required by the body), like Olay’s Total Effects 7 in One Day Cream SPF 15 which is known to prevent acne while boosting hydration levels required to keep skin looking young. Alternatively, Personeni suggests tackling one problem at a time to allow skin to adapt to targeted products.
TIP: While we’re a big fan of oils, moisturisers often contain particles that are water-soluble and are therefore easier for the skin to soak up. Instead, consider applying oil on top of your moisturiser for a dewy finish.
Tumblr media
SAVE THE BEST ‘TIL LAST, SUNSCREEN
You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again – there is no product more reliable to steer your skin away from the signs of aging than a sunscreen. This is essentially due to the fact that a trusty Broad Spectrum SPF containing protection against both UVA and UVB rays will deter light from infiltrating the skin. While a short kick of vitamin D is encouraged, prolonged sun exposure is not. Too much can disturb the reproduction of healthy skin cells like collagen and elastin (that keep skin firm), cause dryness and irritation, not to mention the risk of skin cancer development. While outdoors, choose products containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which work to physically block the sun. And while many of us work indoors and feel we’re exempt from requiring a daily SPF, you’d be wise to opt for foundation and moisturising products containing even a small SPF rating, as light passing through windows and reflecting off screens can be just as damaging. “Foundation formulations are rich in particles to opacify and help cover imperfections,” Personeni says. “Particles do help shield the skin from the sun, but unless it has been tested for SPF, the protection is unreliable.” Again, consider products rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory actives, Personeni advocates, because they “quench free radicals generated by light, and limit damage to the skin.” We’ve been using Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+ Mattifying for years.
TIP: “In regards to storage, I prefer to store my products at ambient temperature rather than the fridge,” Personeni admits, “as some actives can crystallize at low temperature. Best is to not buy too many products ahead of time!”
THE NICE-TO-HAVE’S (great additions to your skincare routine, but not necessary):
·       Toner
·       Oil
·       Eye Cream
·       Masks
·       Facials and Cosmetic Treatments
 LONG STORY SHORT…
Personeni’s advice: keep it simple. “It is best to have a regular skin care routine with low impact products rather than an erratic routine with episodes of high potency treatments.” Ultimately, the aim of the game when it comes to anti-aging is to keep your skin healthy, in much the same way you do for your body. Opt for products whose brand you’re familiar with, whose ethos you align with, that’s ingredients correspond to your skin type, and all in all, you’d be proud to house in your bathroom cabinet.

You said you love skincare over makeup: me too! What's your favorite brands? :)
I have extremely sensitive skin that is prone to cystic acne due to my hormones being out of whack due to endometriosis, so I have to be very careful about the brands I use for either skincare OR makeup, and it took me a long time to realise that, and lean more into cultural beauty routines that take skincare over makeup (For example, Korean beauty or more traditionalist Swedish beauty, a la Ingrid Bergman, who famously never wore a stitch of makeup if she could help it and her skin was just that lovely that she didn’t have to). I’m also very aware of overt fragrances, stripping agents like alcohol (Baby Lauren was not; and thought drying out your skin equaled less acne; yikes), and any harsh additives.
Sunscreen:
I’ve always taken sun care extremely seriously, as both my mother and my grandmother have had skin cancer before, so I’m most likely predisposed to having it. This has led to some unintentionally hilarious results of being the palest person in the world who plays beach volleyball both professionally (back in the day) and competitively (now, or before the COVID hit). I always wear long sleeves on the beach unless I have time to completely apply sunscreen, and am a snob when it comes to sunscreens as well. They can’t cause a breakout, leak into my eyes due to sweat, any of that good stuff.
My sunscreen recommendations:
(Note: And I literally get them from all over the world, so get ready, because I probably cover something available in your town/country. I’ve lived in Australasia, North America, and Europe, so I’ve pretty much covered a large part of the world in my travels xD)
Face:
Mychelle Pharmaceuticals SPF 28 in Coconut (Unfortunately only an American brand, but I literally get it shipped to a P.O. box near Canada so I can go across the line to get it. It’s that good. XD Doesn’t melt, dries quickly, unsure how it would look on darker skin than ghost white, but still doesn’t give me any sort of cast).
Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream No Sebum: Literally a steal at twelve bucks, but DOES cause the dreaded white cast. Anti-acne and also settles down really well on the skin. I’m luckily pale enough that if I layer makeup over it, it usually doesn’t look as bad, but I’ve heard a lot of POC say they love the texture, but it gives them that ashy-white look (See below for some skincare brands I’ve heard are better for this for POC).
Body:
Bioderma Photoderm SPF 50+ UVA and UVB Lait protection élevée: This is a really popular French sunscreen that doesn’t move and stays firm after you apply it and it dries down. It’s a high SPF quality, and I can find it in Canada, but I also obviously saw it in France when I was there as well. France is another country that really seems to follow the ‘If you have great skin you don’t really need makeup do you” train.
MooGoo Skincare (Generally and their sunscreen): This was my go to in Australia: I’d have to reapply it often because otherwise you would get burned, but Australia also has a gigantic hole in the ozone layer so it isn’t exactly helping itself. xD But it’s a local Aussie brand, it’s natural, and it’s great and relatively cheap (although you can order it worldwide I believe and they have a US based website if you’re in the states). I also love their leave in hair conditioner, as well as their self-tanner. They also send you great testers with it, and have great mineral-based makeup if you’re keen.
Coola SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray Pina Colada: This is my go to spray on for playing sports last summer. It’s natural, smells good, is expensive, but it lasted me an entire summer playing beach volleyball most days at the beach, and I still have some left over.
Some of my top other skincare recommendations I’d recommend otherwise would be:
My Current Routine:
- Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (everyday)
- Dermalogica Overnight Clearing Gel (everyday)
- Dermalogica Microdermabrasion (everyday)
- Mychelle Cosmetics: SPF 28 Coconut (everyday)
- Clinique Oil Control Gel with Uneven Skin Tone Pump (everyday)
- Lush Eye Cream (optional)
- Benton Aloe Vera Gel (optional if my skin is feeling dry)
- Bioderma Photoderm 50+ for my body sunscreen  (everyday)
(Note: I also use a micellar water to clear eye makeup if I use it, and occasionally the Thayers toner if I have it on hand, but it’s not essential to my routine, and I don’t use eye makeup that often).
Dermalogica:  Expensive as all hell, but it’s literally the only thing that I can get a ‘wash and go’ effect from. Their Special Cleansing Gel is the only face wash I’ve been able to use for more than three to four months without having to switch it up from my skin throwing it’s own mini revolution. xD The one thing I could say is that their Cleansing Gel LITERALLY lasts forever. I have a gigantic pump which is 88 dollars (YIKES), but it’s lasted me literally seven months without having to change products and buying usually amount in cheaper skincare, going to the dermatologist, or having to get further medication from my doctor for my skin (I take an antibiotic to keep my skin at bay as well). It’s literally worth the money of me searching and floundering about buying cheaper options that make my skin break out that progressively add up to the full amount of the Dermalogica/ avoiding dermatologist appointments, so that’s how I justify it. So while it makes me cringe every time I buy it, it really is worth it if you’re washing it two times a day (There’s also a 250ml size for 55 bucks Canadian on Sephora if you want to give it a go for less commitment, and that usually lasts for a good two months on its own).
I also use their Overnight Clearing Gel for my acne (also expensive), and I can do without, but do like, their microdermabrasion scrub, which also lasts forever. I also forgot to mention that this is the stuff coming straight from The International Dermal Institute, so they know what they’re doing.
Others I enjoy:
Klairs: My (relatively) cheap routine if I’m running low on funds for the month. They have a great body-based soap bar if you have body acne (Which I usually don’t, but if I’m doing a lot of beach volleyball in the summer, gremlins in the sand fuck with my skin, I swear to god).
Innisfree: Great based routines, and if you’re able to actually go to a store to get skin-matched, they have some amazing stores in Australasia. I use their sheet masks often.
Benton: Their aloe vera-based products are amazing for skincare; I use them usually in lieu of a body lotion.
Thayers: Their unscented toner is the only toner I trust, and it’s usually on sale at a drugstore.
Mychelle Cosmetics: As mentioned above, it’s responsible for my daily sunscreen; unfortunately, you can only get it in the States (Which is why I literally have a P.O. box across the border in America where I go to pick it up from because I live about fifteen minutes from the US-Canada border. Seriously, it’s that good).
 MooGoo: As mentioned above.
Clinique: An oldie, but a goodie. Their skincare routine doesn’t have the same effect on my face like Dermalogica, but if I’m in a financial pinch and need something to hold me over at the mid-point price level, I still turn to Clinique. I still use their gel as my moisturiser, and they now have this new ‘mix and match’ program with Emilia Clarke as their promo-woman. I’ve heard the shade range for the BB cream-based moisturiser is terrible, even for white ladies, but I just got their Oil-Control gel with an ‘uneven skin tone’ top mixed in to address acne-scarring, and I’ve already seen some good results.
 Biotherma: See above.
La-Roche Posay: The routine my dermatologist recommended as a top professor of skincare at a leading hospital related to a university in Australia. It’s very gentle, and their Effaclar another mid-level price routine.
St Ives: If I’m really poor, I go for St. Ives. I don’t use their scrubs, because they use walnut shells on their that can literally rip up your face, but I do like their body wash, body lotion, and they recently released a cleanser with camomile which is calming for the face. It’s not as good as the Dermalogica stuff, but for cheap and for no harsh alcohols or chemicals, plus making a move towards being cruelty-free, I think St. Ives is trying to revamp their brand a bit after that bad press they had concerning #walnutgate. xD
Lush: Another cheaper option (although not really, because Lush usually gauges you for more than you’d pay for a proper Clinique cleanser for a bar of soap/ once you’ve got your full routine together). That being said, I do like their eye cream. I’m in my mid-twenties now, so I’m starting to try to do more preventative skincare.
Mario Badescu: I still use their acne spot treatment if I have a really terrible zit, and it’s gone the next morning.
Other brands I’ve heard good things about:
First Aid Beauty (I want to try their tinted sunscreen for summer)
Supergoop (Apparently their mineral sunscreen is really great for POC, as it doesn’t give the dreaded WHITE CAST)
Shiseido (A classic Japanese brand)
Keihls (Another one I’ve heard great things about but is more expensive)
Ren Clean Skincare (Another skincare brand I want to try).
So hopefully this gives you some ideas to try, nonny, and hopefully this helps someone. xD -shrug-

Cruising for a bruising, Part 3 (Branjie) - Q-Tip & TheDane
Authors note: Hi everyone! We’re very sorry about the wait, but here is chapter 3 of Cruising for a bruising finally! Q-tip and I had a lot of fun writing it, and I hope you will all enjoy it! A huge thank you to ArtificialMeggie and VeronicaSanders who beta’d, and please leave some love in the comments!
“I called for help and you didn’t come! What good is dating your hot Canadian butt if you don’t come to my aid like some prince on a white moose!”
—-
They had taken their sweet time, enjoying each other before Vanjie got up. He had quickly ran a wash cloth over his body before throwing it at Brooke who had laughed and cleaned himself up too. Vanjie had been ready to go out again in minutes, speedos discarded and forgotten in favor of a pair of blue shorts that were much more appropriate. However, Brooke still wasn’t done, insisting he had to use the bathroom.
“Brock! Come ooooooon.” Vanjie knew he was whining, but he had never been above acting a fool to get his way. “Why you takin so long?” he asked, a series of rapid knocks on the bathroom door interlacing with his words. “The sun ain’t gonna shine all day.”
“Go on up,” Brooke called back. “I’ll join you in a sec.”
“Why’s the door locked? You taking a shit or something?”
Vanjie could hear the deep belly laugh. Vanjie knew he was often overreacting, but few things got him going like a locked door, and it was even worse if he knew Brooke was on the other side.
“Something like that.”
Vanjie laughed. “Fine! I’ll leave without you, but don’t you go taking too long, I need you to come show me off like the fine fucking catch I am.” Vanjie grabbed his phone, making his way to the door, yelling, “Love ya!” before he closed it behind him.
/
It was truly incredible how Vanjie could switch from being the sexiest little minx to crass and hilarious in the span of minutes.  Brooke chuckled softly to himself as he rubbed sunscreen onto his face in gentle circles, making sure he covered each inch of skin. He had managed not to get burned yet, and there was no way he was risking his streak, even if Vanjie was more impatient than a toddler sometimes.
Brooke went back into the room, ready to do the hardest part of the day. Picking what to wear. Nina had pointed out a few personal faves, and Brooke ended up grabbing the floral shorts that both Nina and the shop assistant had said looked good on him.
Brooke took a look in the mirror. The swim shorts - which he did get a size up, thank you very much - were decorated liberally with various hawaiian flowers. He felt like himself, though a slightly more bougie version. Brooke grabbed a sky blue shirt, not bothering to button it up since it stretched tight across his chest. Nina had called it fashion and said he looked swole .
/
The sun hadn’t always been a friend of Nina’s. However, generous amounts of sunscreen - SPF 50, of course - had allowed him the luxury of basking in the sun while on this cruise. If only he were careful and applied a new layer at regular intervals, he was golden. Literally, which he had every intention of getting.
“This is so unfair.”
Vanjie’s voice never failed to catch Nina’s attention. Brooke was smothering Vanjie in sunscreen, running his broad palms down Vanjie’s arm, and from the whine in Vanjie’s voice, Nina knew this was a prime chance for a story to evolve.
“I thought this would be some sensual shit.” Vanjie fretted, legs bouncing up and down as he shifted impatiently. “You could at least butter me up with some oil instead so I can get my tan on.”
Vanjie was full of golden nuggets, little pieces of information that Nina was carefully putting aside for future use. His podcast thrived on stories of Vanjie’s adventures and crazy theories, and Nina had to thank his excellent memory for allowing him to tuck every word aside, so that he could write it down later. His most listened to episode of the podcast so far had featured Vanjie, his friend agreeing to come on and explain a few of his most popular quotes. Nina’s co-host, Patricia, had been all up in arms, excited and even more bubbly than normal while displaying her sincere disappointment in the fact that Vanjie was not only taken, but also gay, as she had never met a man she had wanted to marry more.
“Just sit still.” Brooke ran his hands across Vanjie’s arms, tongue poking out from between his teeth in concentration. “You’ll burn if you don’t let me put this sunscreen on you. And then I’ll have to put up with your whining.”
“Pfth. Sunscreen. That’s just some marketing mumbo jumbo. I don’t need this just let me go.”
Brooke looked as if someone had just slapped him squarely across the face.
“… Are you saying you don’t believe in sunscreen?”
Nina had rarely seen Brooke look so dumbfounded, Vanjies mouth already running, babbling like a waterfall. “It’s like the florade in the water-
“The what?”
“The florade. You know that mind control shit that the government put in the water. Sunscreen is the same.”
“Do you mean floride?”
“Sssh Brooke, let her finish.” Nina waved her hand at Brooke in an effort to silence him, perching up in her seat.
“I ain’t ever used sunscreen and I’m fine. Rays from space? Who even made that up?”
Nina sat up straight, throwing her legs over the side of her chair in an effort to look closely at Vanjie. “Tell me more, tell me more.”
“Nina don’t-“
“Besides, even if them UN rays are real.”
“UV. It’s UV rays.” If looks could kill, Nina would already have been dead, Brooke shooting daggers at him.
“Even if they are, I’m Latinx! It’s like, the protection is in my blood, you know?” Vanjie held his head high and proud, and Nina could feel her cheeks straining from the insane smile that was plastered there, Vanjie clearly on a tangent. “Everyone be talking about skin cancer, but there ain’t no person in my family who has ever used sunscreen and my Abuela lived to 105!”
Nina had to bite her lip, breathing deep not to fall into a full on crackle. “So, just to be clear. You’re saying you can’t get skin cancer because of your race?”
“I might have to reeducate myself.” Vanjie smiled, his eyes sparkling. “Cause when you say it like that, I usually put my foot in my dang mouth. Damn Nina, you always make me feel like a dumbass.”
“You’re not dumb,” Brooke reassured him, squeezing his biceps teasingly. “You’re just horribly misinformed.”
“You still love me?”
If Nina didn’t know them both so well, she might not have noticed how Vanjie’s face visibly fell before morphing into the mirror image of a relaxed grin. She might also not have noticed how Brooke - the Brooke she had known for so many years, the canadian queen of solitude - pressed the most tender of kisses to the patch between Vanjie’s shoulder blades.
“I’ll always love you.”
/
Ariel licked the side of his ice cream cone, catching a drop of vanilla flavored liquid that was making it’s escape. He had been enjoying the sun when noise from the pool had distracted him. Silky had accidentally fired a beach ball into Detox’s face, the queens quickly breaking up into factions, the water fight of a century starting as everyone got dragged into it, or at least, nearly everyone.
Ariel spotted Brooke near the railing, his sister standing with his phone and taking pictures.
“Look at you.” Ariel smiled, licking his ice cream. “Out here, thotting it up while the world has gone into madness.”
“.. What?” Brooke looked up from his phone, and Ariel realised with delight that Brooke had no idea about the water fight.
“Nothing, I just wasn’t sure you knew what patterns were until now,” Ariel commented, nodding towards Brooke’s shorts.
“Have you not seen my drag?” Brooke huffed, although there was nothing but jest in his voice.
“Do you need help?”
“You’re offering me help?”
“Why not?” Ariel shrugged. “Besides, it’s not like there’s anything more fun to do.” If Ariel played his cards just right, he would secure his entertainment for the rest of the day. Keeping Brooke distracted would mean there was no one who could break up the fight, and if Ariel was lucky, Silky was getting annihilated by the pool as they spoke.“New day, new me.”
/
“Twist your back.”
Brooke had laughed when Ariel had insisted on oiling his chest, but as Brooke looked over his shoulder, he was sure it would look great. Soju had called Brooke’s Instagram thirst central several times, and while Brooke loved it, he couldn’t help but hope that his fans would notice something else this time around.
“Are you sure this is a good look?”
“Trust my vision, big guy.” Ariel smiled, clapping Brooke’s abs before he tucked the string of his shorts into the waistband. “There is a reason I’m an Instagram queen.”
/
“I can’t believe you left my ass hanging!”
“I told you.” Brooke laughed, Vanjie ready to explode like a little cartoon character as they ran down the hall to get to their room. “I was busy.”
“I called for help and you didn’t come! What good is dating your hot Canadian butt if you don’t come to my aid like some prince on a white moose!”
Brooke snorted. Vanjie had acted like he had been forgotten on the battlefield when Brooke had finally returned. From what Brooke had gathered, the entire thing had turned into a major shitshow, Vanjie jumping on Silky’s team the moment Detox had teamed up with Nina and A’keria, the fight quickly migrating from the pool to cover the entire deck. Ariel and Brooke had returned to Silky and Vanjie in a giant fort, built out of sun chairs, while A’keria had just returned from the gift shop with hands full of water balloons. “I was there for Untucked Papi. You can hold your own.
“I nearly died! What if I had died?!”
“I’ve never heard of anyone dying in a water fight.”
“I could have been the first!”
“If you had,” Brooke laughed, grabbing Vanjies arm and pulling him in, spinning them around before he pushed Vanjie against the wall. “I would have mourned you appropriately.”
“Just kiss me you fucking asshole.”
/
“Are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Best idea I ever had.” Vanjie smiled, excitement radiating off him. “It’s gonna look sick.”
“Unless you break your neck.” Brooke smiled back, Vanjie’s good mood almost infectious though the other man had no reason to be as excited as he was. They were stuck in rehearsals, the cruise company wanting every queen to participate in a big finale show at their end destination, and while Brooke wasn’t opposed to it, he was again and again reminded why he prefered to work alone. Brooke and Vanjie had been the last to slip into the room, Raja laughing at them, but thankfully none of the staff had pointed it out. “Just because you saw it on Youtube, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.”
“If I fall and break my neck, Imma come back and haunt your dick so I’m fine either way.”
“Come on then.”
Vanjie ran, bare feet touching the floor, extending his arms, Brooke catching Vanjie’s hands and using the momentum to swing Vanjie over his head, Brooke clicking his elbows into place as Vanjie tried to find his balance, Brooke’s boyfriend doing a handstand above his head, both of their arms stretched. Vanjie flailed a little, his legs not fully up, and Brooke moved forward instantly, counterbalancing Vanjies weight, his neck bend backwards to watch Vanjie, making sure he was safe. Brooke squeezed Vanjie’s hand, pushing up and using the movement to swing Vanjie down on the other side of his body, his boyfriend landing clean on his feet.
“You ok babe?”
“That, was, awesome!!” Not even a foghorn could have competed with Vanjie in that moment, Brooke almost blown backwards. “Again!”
“Again?” Brooke smiled, Vanjie’s pure excitement contagious.
“Yes bitch again!” Vanjie jumped in place, giddy with the fact that the trick has almost worked perfectly. “Wait, let me find my heels! God this is gonna look fucking sick!”
/
“Concentrate please!
Brooke peeked over the top of his book, Lord of the Flies the latest paperback he was working his way through. It had always been a habit of his to have something with him during his ballet career in case there was downtime, an inevitable part of working in a company. Since Drag Race had aired, he had however raced through his bookshelf, every forgotten copy from strange little stores or shitty airport shelves getting picked up and thumbed through to keep him entertained.
Brooke had picked the choreography up almost instantly, the instructor letting him go after two rounds, Brooke nailing the entire thing on the second go. The same couldn’t be said for Cracker or Nina though, who were still struggling through it, Vanjie caught in the background with Silky which was the exact reason Brooke hadn’t left yet and why he was spread out over a shitty bar booth instead of napping or enjoying the sun.
That, and the fact that his fingers were itching to look at his phone, the smallest part of his brain that he couldn’t control fully spiraling over whenever or not his fans had picked up on his new shorts on Instagram.
The fans were terrifyingly intense sometimes - Brooke sure, without the shadow of a doubt, that if he ever needed to be hospitalised he could ask twitter for his blood type, social security number and medical history and receive it within minutes.
“Hi stranger.” Brooke looked up, faintly recognising the voice. It was Justin, the guy from the clothing store, now carrying a case of beer. “Missed me already?”
“Oh absolutely.” Brooke laughed, a short sound coming from him as he sat up straight, Justin putting the case down on the table. “Didn’t realise this was your bar.”
“So, you’re not just a regular guest, huh?” Justin smiled, his white teeth bright in the half dark of the room.
Brooke felt a brief surge of unease. It had been nice chatting to a complete stranger, and Brooke was already mourning the loss of that a little bit, the days on the cruise making him feel like he was an animal at the zoo. “Who told you?”
“Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out when you’re in a closed bar during the day. You’re one of the dancers, right?”
Brooke smiled, quick relief coming to him. “Or maybe I’m just a really enthusiastic alcoholic?”
“That’d be the first alcoholic I’ve seen that reads Lord of the Flies and goes on cruises for fun.” Justin sat down, Brooke moving over to make space. “How do you like it so far?”
“You’ve read it?”
“Of course!” Justin smiled. “Required reading and all that, though I disagree with the idea of human nature being this uncaged animal, just waiting for a chance to get out.”
“I think I’d be pretty uncaged too if I had to survive on badly cooked jungle meat prepared by preteens.”  Brooke thumbed through his copy. “How do you feel about the conch?”
“As a symbol for society?”
“It could appear that way.” Brooke smiled. “But in Hinduism-“
“Wasn’t the story published in like.. 1951?”
“1954, but in Hinduism conches were believed to be able to banish evil. Blow the conch, the kids have to listen, seems like a classic metaphor to me.”
“Because the banishment of evil worked real well for the boys.” Justin smirked.
“Better than a symbol of society.”
“If you insist on being contrary, let me just point out that the fragility of the material could be a metaphor for the weakness of-“
“Structured power!” Brooke laughed, quickly folding down the page in his copy so he could save the note Justin had given him.
“Exactly!” Justin laughed. They continued talking, shooting back and forth, Justin apparently still in college part time where he was finishing up a creative writing degree, their taste in books almost identical. Brooke didn’t even realise he had completely forgotten his phone, he and Justin quickly getting thrown into a rapid discussion on what the story would have turned into with all female characters
/
“It’s so fuckin hot back here.” Vanjie grumbled, fanning himself with his hand. Nina was still struggling, the cocktails he had had in the sun earlier that day affect his already slow ability to pick up a routine. “Can’t believe we gotta be stuck for this shit.” Vanjie was only wearing a loose t-shirt and shorts, the drawstring tightly secured since Brooke’s fingerprints had started to appear after their rut after lunch. Vanjie secretly loved it, his darker skin not picking up marks as easily as Brooke’s, but there was something special about carrying an imprint around, five perfect fingers blossoming on his right hip.
Silky laughed, his best friend sweating like a sinner in church. Cracker was going through it again, the choreographer showing him the steps, and they had the briefest of breaks. Vanjie would have gotten off stage, but he was sure he was caught in some Sisyphus nightmare, the rock he was hurling up a dumb hill Cracker’s two left feet and Nina’s Disney dancing ass.
“Here.” Silky handed Vanjie a bottle of water.
“Nah I’m good.”
“Come on cyst, gotta stay hydrated.” Silky grinned, holding the bottle to Vanjie’s lips.
Vanjie hit the bottle, water almost spraying everywhere. “My hydo- huda- hydaration is fucking fine, besides, I don’t want no sloppy seconds.”
“Oh so you’re a nice girl who only has premium meat?” Silky wiggled his eyebrows, making Vanjie snort.
“Fuck off.” Vanjie laughed. “Brock! Babe, where you at!” Vanjie held his hand above his eyes, blocking out the stage lights, scanning the dark bar. “Can I have a water please?!”.
Normally, Brooke would come running right away, his boyfriend the most caring person Vanjie had ever met from the moment they had stepped off the race, but as he waited one beat and then two, nothing came. Vanjie had expected Brooke to be somewhere, happily reading whatever nerd book he was into right now, but what he saw was something completely and gut wrenchingly different. Vanjie saw Brooke and someone else, a stranger, sitting together in a booth, open beer bottles in hand, Brooke openly, happily and loudly discussing something, the smile on his face so bright he might as well have been looking at the sun.
“Give me that stupid bottle.”

BLK Cosmetics Face Stack multi pot Review
Skin type: Oily with large pores and textured skin
Complexion: Fair, neutral undertone
PRODUCT CLAIMS
SMUDGE-PROOF; Foolproof formula doesn't budge nor smudge
INTENSE PIGMENT; Stark pigment delivers dramatic color
LONG-WEARING; Literally lasts all day and night—no need for touch-ups!
Hey dudes and dudettes! Here’s my own review of the BLK Cosmetics Face Stack Multi Pot line. I got Tan Lines, Room Service and Wanderlust. I didn’t get Jet Setter, Staycation and Pool Party because I wanted more OOMFPH for a highlight on my face, even though I’m oily enough to achieve that glow alone. Pool Party’s shade isn’t really my thing, sorry. I personally don’t enjoy vibrant colors on my skin but hey, if vibrance is your thing, I applaud you for rocking it because I can’t. So I tested these products with a base product, I used Face Republic’s Perfect Cover BB Cream, together with their Super Sunscreen Sun Gel SPF 50+ as my moisturizer/sunscreen/primer. I wanted to try it on bare face IF ONLY I looked as good as their models and if I’m not insecure enough LOL!
DISCLAIMER I am no professional makeup artist, I am just a makeup enthusiast and a skincare junkie who loves to review products. I am not affiliated with the brand, I am only a consumer testing out these new products purchased with my own money, for those of you with the same skin type or complexion as mine, to see if it works for me then it might work for you too!
So let’s start!
Tan Lines - 8/10
Okay for light-skined gals, it only gives a very subtle cheek contour but forgiving when used on the nose line. I used it to contour my forehead as well and it looks okay, I mean a five-head’s still a five-head but the contour is there. I could skip the cheek contour with this and I could get away with just the nose and the forehead snatched. But I also think it needs more warmth because it’s too cool that it might look ashy on morena gals.
Room Service - 10/10 Fave shade!
Works really really well for overall - eyes, cheeks and lips. Perfect shade for a drunk blush look. It is matte and it lasts long on the cheeks. I did a wear test from 7am to 5pm, a good 10 hours and even let my oils come through. It definitely faded on the lips as you eat but you can always do a quick retouch with it since it is what it’s marketed for; always ready for on-the-go makeup and retouchés. (Yes, I made it sound fancier)
Wanderlust - 9/10
It gives me Nars Orgasm vibezZz but a cream type because of its shade. It has micro gold glitters so expect that it has just a little bit of shimmer to it. I wouldn’t recommend using it on the cheeks of you have large pores like me, the shimmer will definitely emphasize textured skin though it is great used on the eyes. It slightly creased on my oily lids and it’s still there throughout the day.
Packing - 9/10
Such a great concept, though if they wanted it to be more eco-friendly and totally reduce plastic packing, I hope they will soon release and sell it in pans for replacement in case we hit pan so we won’t have to buy the magnetized plastic packaging again. The magnet holds on pretty good just don’t drop it, it will definitely fall apart. The pan size of the product is small, I wish they had made it bigger
Price - 9/10
For 299 you get 2 grams of product
399 with the lid

I really love the idea of BLK Cosmetic’s Face Stack Multi Pot since I’m one of the dudettes who is always on the go and as much as possible, I would like to lessen my makeup ritual from a 2-hour full glam to just a 15-30 minutes BLK-ed look. NEWSFLASH: They really are smudge-proof, intensely pigmented and long-wearing. By the way, I prefer using them with a brush instead of using my fingers because yes, I’m THAT maarte, and you never know the germs that might go to the makeup and to your face. I might use my fingers when there comes a time that I really don’t have much of a choice but I will make sure that I washed my hands and used my 99.9 percent of alchohol, 70 percent will do but y’know I’m THAT bxtch LOL! You may purchase BLK Cosmetics Face Stack Multi Pot at any SM stores and makeup outlets/online stores that I know of such as BeautyMNL, Shoppe and Lazada. Grab yours now and customize your own personal on-the-go Face Stack!

I have a crush on you but also LEAK THE SKIN CARE ROUTINE
I really hope you were serious, because this is something I’ve thought a lot about and I am absolutely going to use this ask as an excuse to go into a skin care deep dive.
Here’s a big-ol high-res picture of my mug for you to inspect.
Tumblr media
I pay less than $15 for products that must last at least 3-4 months because I just… don’t have more money than that to throw at this hobby. I’ll link to everything I use and show you the price under the cut.
I only use four of these things below every day–but when I have time, I use as many of them as my skin calls for. I just wanted to show you the whole of my skincare arsenal so as not to be coy about it taking up space and time in my life and routine. It does, and I do work on it.
Tumblr media
I’m 33, white with combination skin, lots of prior scarring from picking, lots of sun exposure (Florida!), and several minor autoimmune issues that impact my skin when my health is poor or stress is high. I am prone to whiteheads and inflamed pimples the week of my period.
You cannot buy, wash, treat, or hide your way to “perfect” skin. Airbrushed, poreless, whitewashed, glowing, moist, unwrinkled skin is a lie sold to us by makeup and skincare companies. There is no perfect skin–there is only skin.
But if you personally are unhappy with some aspect of your skin, you can develop habits that make you more comfortable with/proud of/happy with your skin, and that’s what I want to focus on here.
Though good health =/= clear and smooth skin in all cases, I am lucky to report that my skin looks clearer, smoother, and younger now that I’m not just generally near death all the time. The story would be very different if I struggled with, say, lifelong acne, or if I had a chronic health problem that I was not able to manage.
Skincare is a luxury of time, money, physical storage space, and mental space.
“Good” skin is a myth. Everyone’s skin is good skin. I started doing all of this stuff to my skin because I was dissatisfied with how much it HURT all of the time, and how flaky it was. Acne, scars, “discoloration,” different coloration, birthmarks, big pores, “craters,” uneven textures, dark hairs, thick hairs, skin tags, milia, blackheads, wrinkles, keratosis pilaris, freckles, and moles are all NORMAL skin types/features and don’t need to be “solved” if the possessor is unbothered by them. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO LOOK HOWEVER YOU WANT.
I do this stuff because I like it, it helps my mental health to take care of myself with a routine, and it improves my physical quality of life. It helps me with some insecurities, but if that was the only thing it did for me, I don’t think I’d mess with it this much. When I’m not healthy, my skin is prone to deep cracking and flaking. I have always been self-conscious about redness in my T-zone and yellowness around my eyes (dear god, my poor, poor liver).
My skin has objectively cleared and smoothed and plumped up a lot because I smoke less, drink less, stay in mostly humid environments (because, again, Florida!), and have been managing my stress and autoimmune issues. These are all changes made in the last six months.
On top of those changes, on an average day when I’m actually taking care of myself, I use the following four steps in the order listed, once a day in the morning. I’m realistic that I’ll only do this once a day in the morning and anything more than that is just a boring time suck for me as a person.
1. COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser - 5 oz for $10.70 - one tube lasts me about 6 months. I use this in the morning and just thoroughly wash my face. It’s very mild and has a fresh citrus scent that doesn’t linger.
2. Kikumasamune Skincare Lotion - 17 oz $12.10 - one bottle lasts me 8-10 months. This is a fermented, watery product unlike anything I’d used before. It smells faintly like sake, bananas, and bubblegum (seriously). I decant it out of the big pump bottle into a little travel bottle. I shake a little in my hand and rub it gently over my whole face and eye area. Probably not supposed to do that, but I’m a rebel. It leaves my skin a little tacky.
3. Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist - 5.7 oz for $12.99 bottle, then 6.4 oz for $10.90 refill packages - 5 oz lasts me 3-4 months. I’ve honestly forgotten what this even does but it’s a nice, thick liquid, colorless and scentless, and I put it all over my face. Leaves my skin a little less tacky but still not slick/neutral.
4. Ladykin Fresh Strawberry Icing Gel Bar - 6.7 oz for $7.99 - one bottle lasts me about 5-6 months. Someone literally bought this for me as a gag gift because they knew I liked skincare and the bottle is… weirdly obscene. But it turns out that it makes a great moisturizer for me and it’s cheap as hell and smells like fresh strawberries so what’s the down side?
When I have time or when my skin really needs it, I also use the following products:
SHEETMASKS - Stop buying overpriced sheetmasks one at a time!!!! Leave that aisle at Target alone!!! I know they’re at the dollar store too–leave them alone!!! Those are cool if you’re treating yourself for special occasions, but I try to think of sheet masks as a normal part of my week. That means I’m not going to shell out $3-4 PER MASK if I’m using one or two every week!
The thing with sheetmasks is, in my totally nonscientific opinion, it doesn’t really matter what kind you use. The value is in plopping a bunch of moisture on your face along with cloth that simply forces that product into your skin. It’s the skin force-feeding concept that works more than the product itself. I think. I have no proof. I have made really moronic assumptions before.
That said, you’ll find ones that you prefer over others. Snail mucin ones don’t absorb nicely for me. Exotic animal-sourced ingredients (bee pollen, royal jelly, donkey milk, goat milk, snake venom, bee venom….) sometimes irritate my skin. Other people LOVE them.
I get sheetmasks in packages online, at TJ Maxx, and at Marshalls. I try to pay under 75 cents per mask, but lean more towards the 50 cent mark. TJ Maxx and Marshalls are great places to try out new masks–just look at the prices and the mask count and do a little mental math to make sure you’re not getting gouged.
A good place to start if you want to try sheetmasking is with the Dermal brand of sheetmasks (16 masks for $11 (68c/per), 24 masks for $14 (58c/per), 39 masks for $21 (54c/per). They’re basic and generally non-irritating with no scent and a thin formula that feels nice and leaves skin smooth and untacky. This is what I generally keep on hand.
I have a weird sense-memory thing with ginseng, so I also look out for Esfolio Pure Skin Red Ginseng Essence Mask Sheets. I don’t recommend buying from Amazon, as I am able to find these 10-pack boxes cheaper in person.
If I’m going to use a sheetmask, I put it on after I brush my teeth, wash my face, and put in contact lenses (doing them with glasses isn’t impossible–just messier). Then I make tea and just… do stuff with the dumb sheet mask on until it’s pretty dry (20-30 minutes). Then I take it off and rub the leftover mask on my arms and legs and chest like a weirdo, because it’s still full of product, and then I squeeze the leftover product out of the package and apply it to my face. Because I have the luxury of time but not money, I do NOT waste product.
AQUAPHOR - ~$14 for 14 oz - one tub lasts me through 18 months of travel, winters, and tattoos. Apparently everyone who lives somewhere cold already knows that you need to smother your face in petrolatum when it starts acting up or the weather is cold and dry, but this was shocking news to someone like me who was raised in Southern mall culture skincare routines. When my skin is cracked and bad, Aquaphor legit helps more than my prescription steroid creams. I put as much of it on my face as I can tolerate (it doesn’t smell like anything, but it does make you damned greasy) and then go to bed. Waking up with post-Aquaphor skin is like a miracle sometimes.
MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 - $7.20 for 0.2 oz -  This is a new purchase for me, as my favorite sheer, tinted one-tone-fits-all BB cream has been discontinued. This only comes in six colors, and most of those look like they flatter white and yellow skin–so this option won’t be perfect for everyone. I’m still in search of the perfect replacement BB, but this one works for now. In the picture at the top of this post, I’ve just done my normal 4-step thing and applied about a pump and a half of this BB cream all over my face.
***If you have actively flakey skin, I don’t recommend the MISSHA product as it does emphasize flakes and dry patches. Try COVERGIRL Smoothers Lightweight BB Cream (1.35 oz for $6.19) It won’t discolor and emphasize your flakes, if you get dried out during the day.***
I fell into the Korean beauty rabbit hole several years ago with @shrimoishere –who has been more consistent about these things and as a result has AMAZING SKIN. If you want to learn more about why this stuff works, and how it could work for your specific skin type, I highly recommend poking around r/AsianBeauty. I spent a ton of time researching products and about two years trying different things to figure out what would work for me. This has been a passive, slow journey, so I don’t think anyone who can afford it and would like to pursue it should feel intimidated by the perceived time suck. It’s just something cool to do in the background.

What’s Arbonne?
Over a month ago, I received a box in the mail from a company called Arbonne. It was a box i ordered for a 30 day detox that my friend, and inspiration, Danielle was going to coach me through. It was from a brand I had seen twice before in my lifetime. The first time was when I was a nanny, I saw the teas and proteins and because the mom is so aware of wellness I instantly assumed it was some fancy high-end amazing line that I could never afford so I did no asking or looking. the second time was when my now mother in law lost 10lbs: she said it was through an Arbonne challenge at her gym. And that’s it: I never inquired more, never though about it more.
Then Danielle wouldn’t shut up about it. To be fully transparent with you guys; I was getting annoyed. I couldn’t believe how MUCH SHE TALKED ABOUT ARBONNE! BUT, I kept watching: watching her talk about how amazing she felt, watching her clients lose weight and say they felt amazing, watching her post about the income she was getting in her account for helping people, and I kept watching. And she kept asking WHY NOT YOU?
So after 4 months I finally said “Fuck it!” And signed up to help her get a Mercedes bought for her by Arbonne. I thought if I could get rid of my headaches and lose some weight why not? I’d get my money back if it didn’t work after all. And I’d be helping a person I love and admire earn a living and get a car. Who wouldn’t want to help a friend earn money and get a car?!
Less than two weeks into my detox, I joined the business. I joined Arbonne because what it does is everything I seek to do in my life: TO HELP PEOPLE FEEL GOOD AND LIVE A LIFE THAT FEELS GOOD AS NATURALLY AS POSSIBLE! I use organic, non toxic, vegan practically everything in my home. I am always looking for the best hair care, skin care, cleaning products etc. People ask me often about what I love. So...why not work with a brand that is all of those amazing things, and instead of letting Amazon make money...make the money myself? Why not share products that I use DAILY and have TRULY taken my life and lifted it up to another level? WHY NOT ME?
I’m almost done with my detox, and I have truly never felt more energized and joyful in every moment as I have these last three weeks. My body has changed, I have lost inches...but what’s more important to me is how I wake up AWAKE and HAPPY. How I sleep soundly. How I can focus completely on my clients and students and be truly HERE TO SEE AND HEAR other’s in a way I only dreamt of before, but was too burnt out to do regularly.
Just as i was starting my detox, an Instagram QUEEN I follow Heather McMahan posted a video about a podcast with Theo Von and Dr. Perlmutter covering his book THE GRAIN BRAIN. She had just been in Italy and kept saying how she could eat all the carbs all day and feel fine, but the moment she came back to the US, one piece of bread felt like a ton of bricks. I’ve heard this before from people, and I tell my husband all the time that they way America processes it’s food is NOT to make us well, but to make us sick. Because a sick person results in A LOT OF MONEY for big pharma...and big pharma and our government spoon HARD. This podcast was SO eye opening as to just how much of our health is reliant upon our gut. Everywhere I turned I kept hearing about our gut! People say the first cell that we are created from when we are in utero is our gut: and that cell eventually becomes our brain. Our gut is also known to have it’s own brain. Guys, it’s truly amazing and I will just say READ THAT BOOK, or get the audio book, or just look it up: look up how your gut health affects inflammation in your body and how that affects auto-immune disorders just as much as joint pain.
So, as I was experiencing this amazing surge of life going through this program, as I was learning more in depth about the benefits of the program, I continued to explore the product line and it’s integrity and fell deeper in love.
Danielle got her Mercedes Benz y'all. She gets to drive to teach soul cycle classes, drive to pick her son up from preschool in a gorgeous car she does not have to pay for. And why? Because she helps people like me FEEL GOOD.
Can you blame me for wanting in, too?  One of the things they talk about when you join Arbonne is your WHY. And part of that reason is because of the reaction you’re going to get from people. People that have never tried the products, have never looked at the company, but think they already know... and proceed to tell you you’re a scam artist. Luckily for Arbonne, I’m an actress. So while the word “no,” can disappoint me and sometimes hurt my feelings, it doesn’t stop me. In Hollywood, every thousand no’s or so gets you a yes. And boo, THOSE YES’S FEEL SO GOOD!
As I was sitting here eating my lunch, looking back on how fast and how amazing this detox has been, I thought about my why and I decided I should share it with you. Because any time you sign up to do the detox with me, or buy a box of our collagen builder with hyralonic acid. Any time you tell your mom to do the detox with you, or buy our RE9 no-tox botanically based SPF. Anytime you go to my Arbonne mall and order something, you are getting me closer and closer to my WHY.
My big why is very well known: I truly believe I was put on this earth to make it a better place. Whether my acting helps a person escape a moment and FEEL something, or my yoga class enables a person to heal from pain, or my pug brings a smile to a person’s face, even my children I feel will be a part of my purpose of making this world better. Raising sweet little hippies that pick up liter like their mom and turn off the water while brushing their teeth and smile at strangers. I love helping people. I love making people feel loved and supported and seen and heard. That’s why I love teaching yoga so much. That’s why almost every job I have had has consisted of me HELPING a person. And Arbonne can allow me to do that on a much LARGER scale. Through this crazy thing called the internet, I have the ability to help THOUSANDS of people find these products and feel better. To connect with them, get to know them, love them and support them and not be confined by the zip code of the studio I teach in. I can help people make sure the skin care they’re putting on their children is SAFE. I can give people what they need to remove the inflammation from their body and fuel themselves organically.
I am building my Arbonne empire so I don’t have to set an alarm in the mornings and put over 50 miles a day on my car. So I can spend two days a week volunteering at animal shelters and rescues helping give love to animals in need. I am building my Arbonne empire so I can get my husband and I closer to being able to purchase a home, that has enough space to foster those emergency shelter cases without worrying about the safety of that animal or my sweet but aggressive dog. I am building my Arbonne empire so I can buy my mom a house of her own. I am building my Abonne empire because I want to be able to work when I WANT to work when we get pregnant, and take as much time off with my children after as I need. Returning to teach because I MISS IT, and not because I am stressed about finances. I am building my Arbonne empire so we can visit our friends and family in Ohio for more than just Christmas. I am building my Arbonne empire so if I get sick: I can take time off with out stressing out. And that already happened! My nephew gave me the flu, and I took an extra day off to be safe without any stress because of the deposit Arbonne made into my account one week after starting my business.
I want to build my Arbonne empire because just like I tell my students: I deserve to live a life that feels good. And I will be able to do ALL of those things above, and still be helping hundreds of people a month from my home with my rescue dogs that I’m fostering, from my mother in law’s house in Ohio, while I’m resting in my fourth trimester and nursing my baby. THESE ARE MY WHY’S!
Arbonne products TRULY make me feel better than I have ever felt before! I didn’t even know I could feel this good all of the time, truly. How would I? Even as a super health-conscious yoga teacher in LA: I still had inflammation in my body. And now that it has lifted, I never will go back to life before Arbonne.  This detox was such an amazing experience: I cannot sing it’s praises enough. My energy is boundless, my head doesn't ache, and while I didn’t need to: the inches I lost look good else where. I will use Arbonne in my home, in my body, and on my skin every single day for the rest of my life. It’s not my “Why” that’s keeping me going...it’s how good I feel. But maybe my WHY will get you to ask yourself “WHY NOT ME?”

How to fix farmers tan. You’ll want to apply an oil free, fragrance free moisturizer on your hands as well as on the backs of your heels and on knees and elbows. I lounge around in shorts and tank tops. If your farmer’s tan is bright red, there are some soothing solutions you can find right in your kitchen.
There are a few simple steps you can take to avert this fashion faux pas. You can literally get rid of that tan in a month if you do this everyday. To mask tan lines in a pinch:__ use a cotton ball to dab on a matte bronzer (if your complexion is medium or dark) or a matte peachy blush (if you're fair and get pink in the sun).
You can use good foundations to cover the annoying tan lines. A tan that is only on the arms and neck of the person because they were wearing a shirt when the tanning occurred, the rest of the torso is white due to lack of exposure. I realized that my tan is kind of like this… my arms are a light tan, but i have a farmers tan going on.
Avoid tanning beds and spray tans. The skin on these parts of your body tend to be drier than the rest of your skin. Wear a hat to cover your face, and reapply sunscreen if you sweat heavily or get wet.
Farmers get this because they do a lot of labour out in the sun whilst wearing a shirt. Aloe vera is a proven solution to helping your aching sunburns. Easy ways to get rid of a farmer's tan.

In order to let it fade a bit, use a good sunscreen with at least a 50 spf and apply it regularly. For places where you aren’t tan at all, just smear it on generously according to the package directions. Hit the shower and don’t come out until you see bone.

Avoid tanning beds and spray tans. Wear a hat with a brim to shade your face, sunglasses and try to stay out of the sun as much as pos. For the “line” where this skin meets your farmer’s tan and rough areas like your ankles, mix in some additional (regular) moisturizer to dilute the tanning ingredients and prevent streaks and help with blending.

Men's Style and Prepared by Yatan Ahluwalia: How to Look Young - Brunch Facility | ViralHai News [ad_1]
Hair: Long and naturally curly with some white strands. No hair color used. With nothing but water and fingers, the hair was slightly moistened and styled to tame the curls.
Skin: We used an organic and natural handmade face mask by Valley View Organic for cleaning deep pores and then applied a few drops of Homemade Anti-Aging Serum by Nina to nourish the skin.
Face: The beard was trimmed using Andis shaver a day earlier.
Brow: Thick and bushy. We trimmed the center, ends and lengths to make them look natural well.
Lips: Clean and Buffed.
child
1. Style
While your hairstyle choice remains and should be a personal decision, I have often found that short hair works best on mature men. Keeping the hair very short on the sides and back makes the center and top appear fuller, thicker and thicker. This creates a visual illusion that makes you look both brighter and younger.
If you have medium length hair, style the hair with a comb so that it looks clean. Use strands to cover any spots where hair is thin or missing. If you want to make your face look thinner, as well as cover your hair, then let some strand fall to the forehead.
If you have long hair (like the model in the picture) then avoid pulling it back in a tight ponytail, as this will make your forehead look wider and scarier. Instead, keep the hair open - allowing the strands to take their natural curly shape and form. Play with the strands to cover the forehead and sides.
2. Roll and Care
If you prefer to live gracefully, then you can avoid using hair color completely. Some visible varieties of brown may just make you look more respectable. Most women, I know, prefer a man who has some brown - some even tell me gray hair on men, which makes them look sexier! Take their word for it, if not mine!
If you decide to color, choose a shade like dark brown on black. It will always look more real and natural. There is nothing worse than a charcoal black block of hair, against skin that does not look naturally young.
Oil your hair once a week for a few hours or overnight. You can also use a hair mask or hair serum. Use a reliable natural shampoo and conditioner to remove the oil completely, so that the pores can breathe. Keeping your hair wet with oil will close the pores and stop or slow down the natural growth of your hair.
Facial hair
3. Brow
Your eyebrows can drastically change and change the shape of your face. Instead of leaving them unrolled, make it a point to trim the loops and clean the center.
When the outer ends are longer than the inner ends, your jawline looks sharper and the face will look more angular than round. Trim long hair using scissors so that the shape looks clean and you don't have strands that are out of place.
Repeat the process monthly or once every 15 days - it depends on the growth of your hair.
4. Make up and shave
Let me be blunt - facial hair, especially a mustache and a beard, has nothing to do with manhood. The only thing they do is actually add a few years to your face and look.
Read between the lines - Clean shaved men not only look young and new, but they actually appear more dependable, acceptable and desirable.
Since almost everyone is sporting a beard or a mustache or both these days, it would be a good idea to go under the clipper (or razor) and get rid of them for good, unless it's something that defines you And you really can't live without personally though, I really doubt that this is true.
Eyes
5. under the eyes
There is nothing better for dark circles than drinking enough water and having eight hours of sound, restful sleep.
While water intake capacity may vary from one person to another, I suggest trying to drink about four liters of water a day and keeping the eyes clean and the skin well hydrated.
My tried and tested remedy is to drink a glass of warm water with some freshly squeezed lime juice and good organic and pure honey. Do this daily at a stretch or for at least fifteen days to see visible changes and positive results. Especially recommended if you work hard or drink the previous night.
Face
6. Changing Skin and Large Pores
While women have the advantage of using makeup to cover and hide with our men - you get what you see. So I always insist that we should follow a regular skin care regime that keeps our skin clean, well maintained and as fresh as possible.
Once using a clay-based natural face mask, it will help tighten the skin, especially when used along the jawline and neck. This prevents the skin from scorching around these areas and can help reduce signs of visible chin and unwanted folds.
Clay-based facial cavities go into the pores to be cleaned, reducing the pores width and making them appear smaller.
7.Nourishment
Nourish skin by using a water-based moisturizer (for oily skin) or oil-based facial serum (for dry skin) on a clean face every night.
If you have the time and patience, mash a piece of (organic) mango or papaya and apply it on your face for a few minutes. The fruit will nourish and condition the skin. If your skin is very dry, you can include some cream obtained from full fat milk.
Internally, eat fresh fruits or boiled vegetables as much as possible. What we eat - shows on our face. Good skin is not always achieved in a salon, but also in your kitchen. A diet that is low on sugar and fat and rich in vitamin A, C and iron is recommended.
8.Cleaning
Avoid using harsh or medicinal soaps and opt for mild and natural formulations. Homemade and handmade natural soap is your best bet. As our skin ages, the products we use on them should be as milky and chemical-free as possible. The pH of our skin is around 5 and it is important to maintain this level. Read the product label, which can list a specific pH or say "pH balanced" or "pH neutral".
Use an astringent or toner twice a week to remove excess oil and grime from the surface of the skin. You can use pure rose water instead.
Apply an effective face scrub about twice a week to make the face appear blond and polished and free it from dead, dry and flaky skin.
6. Sun - spots and dark lips
While the sun is good for both your body and skin, over-exposure can cause skin to age faster and result in dark spots and pigmentation problems. I recommend a good sunscreen with SPF of 50 or higher. Try and opt for an oil-free build, so when used it does not feel sticky or oily.
Apply a freshly sliced lemon over the affected area, removing dark marks.
Before going to bed, use lip balm made of natural wax every night. Highly recommended if you have naturally dry or lip or smokers spots.
10. Lines and Wrinkles
Crow's feet or fine lines around the eyes can be treated using eye serum on a regular basis.
Using a heavy-duty cocoa butter-based face cream daily can reduce the lines of laughter or under our nose and under the lips. Products that promote or contain collagen and elastin are always a good choice.
Lines on the body, especially the fold areas and your back before going to bed, are best revealed by applying a rich body lotion. Choose a product that is light and non-greasy.
My choice of the five best anti aging grooming products:
1. Organic Skin Mask by Valley View Organic
Tumblr media
Muskul made with organic leaves and herbs based on this soil does wonders for dull skin, making it appear both fresher and stronger.
2. Vitmin C Glow Sheet Mask by Body Shop
Tumblr media
Enriched with Vitamin C, this peel-off mask nourishes and conditions the skin.
3. Gold Bounce by Body Shop
Tumblr media
This holiday on the mask is vegetarian and is made with flowers and natural extracts. Works on your skin while sleeping.
4. 8 in 1 rejuvenation facial oil by Verdic Elexir Naurish Mantra
Tumblr media
This ultra-rich face oil is rich in cannabis seed oil and adds moisture and hydration to dry and lifeless skin.
5. Homemade Serum for Healthy Hair by Nina
Tumblr media
This all natural blend of essential oils with black seed oil as a major ingredient is extremely effective for nourishing and conditioning the hair.

Starting a Skincare Routine: Does this Make Me Old Now?
I figure if I’ve crossed the line into the territory wherein I’m considering giving up coffee because of it’s caffeine which I’ve heard can make skin look dull, I’m officially old. Is there any weight to that caffeine/skin story? Who knows, the fact of the matter is for the past year or so I’ve been looking in the mirror, less than satisfied with the face I see looking back at me.
I swear it’s really not for a remarkably petty reason! I’ve obsessed in the past over dark circles, bags, hormonal acne, dry skin, etc, etc. But truly, with the skin on your face you never know how truly blessed you are until you start looking back at when you were younger. Back then, I washed my face with Cetaphil and applied a drugstore moisturizer after showers and called it good and I had plump, dewy, youthful looking skin that glowed from the outside in.
Now I’ve been noticing that my skin looks dry, dull, and flat. It has no glow, it has no dew, it has no youth. My dark circles are worse than ever and the texture has gotten rougher. I’ve always battled with dry, sensitive skin that can sport a few oil slicks after a long day with sweat and makeup involved, but in the past year I’ve really started to notice it.
I stumbled across Korean skincare routines during one of my nightly forays into the recesses of the internet. Fueled by Dr. Pepper and curiosity, I began reading. And reading. And reading some more. I was highly impressed by the knowledge these bloggers seemed to possess and I decided that I wanted to know that much about my the skin on my face and how I could possibly fight back against the lackluster appearance that no amount of makeup had been able to cover up.
I don’t have hundreds and hundreds of dollars to invest in a skincare routine, and my skin tends to freak the everloving fuck out if I up-end it’s routine too quickly or without an ease-in (seriously, it’s like my mom after she smokes a blunt... no sudden movements). With that in mind, I’ve decided to start small and these are the products I have decided to purchase and test out:
CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
This is obviously not an Asian product. It’s an American drugstore brand. But! It’s fragrance free, has ceramides and hyaluronic acid, and a pH of 5.5. Not too shabby for a $10 cleanser, I’d say!
Pixi Glow Tonic Beauty Elixir
Also not an Asian brand, but I’ve heard good things about Pixi overall, and I think it will be a better option for my sensitive skin which can be particularly testy with acids of literally any sort other than hyaluronic (which it adores, give it ALL the hyaluronic acid, srsly).
Rohto Hada-Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion
Speaking of hyaluronic acid! I’ve heard great things about the moisturizing properties of this “lotion” (actually a toner, it’s a Japanese thing please don’t make me explain, I’m new to this). Sticking with the “no sudden movements” theme, this is fragrance and alcohol-free, both things my skin will thank me for. It’s also particularly hydrating as I mentioned, so I’m thankful for that.
Rohto Hada-Labo UV Creamy Gel SPF 50/PA ++++
SPF! IMPORTANT! If there’s one thing I’ve learned/taken from these skincare regimens (other than the double cleanse-- don’t worry, I’ll talk about that later after I’ve lost the look of a deer in highbeams), it’s that SPF is one of the most important and irreplaceable steps in a routine. This particular brand is moisturizing AND doubles as a makeup primer, which I need a new one anyway!
There you go, that’s my starter routine. Four products. Eventually, I want to add in a lot more, but like any routine for an ADHD like me, I need to work up to it. I have BIG plans for serums and face oils and a balm cleanser and makeup remover and BHA liquid for nighttime, oh yes it will be great fun. But also remember, with my skin: NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS. We’ll get there, and I’ll document every step of the way as we do!
