What video editing software do you recommend?

davinci resolve. it's a professional software and it's free. IT'S FREE. zero guilt about getting it through alternate methods :D right out the box you have a fully fledged editing software with dedicated tabs for media management, cutting, color correction, audio, compositing, etc. it runs great and is well supported by its developers. it autosaves, so if it crashes you're good. (every editing software crashes. but resolve isn't punishing) i recommend it to anyone who wants to get into editing. there are professionals who are switching to it from premiere and final cut. i myself intend to fully switch over, but i still have some projects in vegas that are still in progress.

there's a full version which is a one time payment of $300, but it only adds features you likely won't end up needing for a long time, compared to a premiere subscription, which is like $20 a month.

don't get vegas. it's super outdated and poorly supported. nobody with a professional editing job is using vegas pro. they're making it look modern and fancy, but don't let it fool you. they're just polishing a turd.

resolve needs to pay me for this
