*banging my hands on the table* WE GOTTA PUT THE CATS IN THE ROYAL AU
(once again thank you to @jtl-fics for like, most of these ideas and for the scene at the end)
The kitchen has two cats that hang around regularly, who are both unofficially adopted by Andrew. He likes them simply because he’s a cat person as we all know, he likes giving them treats and scratches etc. Obviously this means Abram takes a liking to them as well
Andrew names one King, she’s not the brightest bulb in the toolbox but she’s real good at sniffing out mice so the kitchen staff like her. Andrew makes the distinction between her and his brother by calling them “King” and “human king” respectively. Aaron hates this. Mostly because when Andrew is talking about the cat he doesn’t care to specify that, and certainly not when talking to Abram or Aaron. Part of the joke straight up is to act like the cat is the real king. Which means that sometimes someone will overhear a bit of gossip or unfortunate news about “King”, straight from the prince’s mouth, in passing. The most memorable of those being the one time Andrew made a comment to Abram about King being pregnant again (“King’s rather been sleeping around, don’t you think?” “Surely it isn’t my place to say, prince. How many children do you think by now, though?” “Oh, a dozen, at the very least.”) and a passing gardener missed any and all context about it. I don’t know how it gets cleared up but Andrew doesn’t let it go for a very long time, it’s hilarious to everyone in the royal family’s circle because they all know how faithful and monogamous Aaron actually is. I guess hilarious to everyone but Aaron, sorry Your Majesty
Abram calls the other one Sir because of his temperament, Sir is very hissy. Instead of Aaron, though, Abram gets to torment Day. Day hates this cat’s name, he pretends to hate the cat, too, firstly because Abram is supposed to call him “sir” because of how far Day outranks him. Until now Day didn’t actually mind Abram using his name (better than Abram calling him “my Lord” or even being too scared to address him at all, which is how they started out) but then this cat comes along and Abram addresses it with the utmost respect and formality. Specifically when Day is around, just to piss him off. Secondly because then when there’s official people/dignitaries/etc around, like for meetings or summits, and Abram actually does have to use Day’s title? Day gets so confused because Abram is saying “sir” a lot, so that damn cat must be around, and there CANNOT be a cat in this room during this meeting
Abram goes “You’re looking a little pale, sir, perhaps you should step out for some fresh air?” And Day almost strangles him in front of their oversea trade partners
And lastly because sometimes Abram will do things like this:

More Eldritch Steve, (I really do need to name this Au) because I couldn't leave you hanging like that.
Thank you for all your guesses.
Part 7
-
Wayne knows that Steve is Other the moment he sees him, he's always had a sense for these things, ever since he was young.
He knew, long before Eddie's father stole his first candy bar, that the man was a bad egg, knew that he'd end up dead or in jail, the man was lucky that he got caught by the police before Wayne could get at him for what he'd done to Eddien he was lucky he was safe in jail and Wayne made sure the man knew it.
But Wayne doesn't say anything, never has, no one but the old bloods would believe him, if he had cared to, the Harrington name carried too much weight, not that it mattered, Emilia Harrington would protect her son until the day she died, Steve had chosen his family wisely.
But Wayne knew, and he could see Steve look at him and know that Wayne knew what he was.
Wayne saw his considering look, the way he nodded like it explained so much, and perhaps it did, at least for Steve.
But Steve said nothing, shook Wayne's hand with a small, close mouthed smile, nonthreatening, almost welcoming even.
And Wayne couldn't help smiling back, wide mouthed and threatening because he didn't care what Steve had done to protect Eddie, he was still the boy's father, more than his blood one had ever been, and he had to make sure Steve understood that.
Steve merely tilted his head in a nod and looked at the teenaged children playing that game Eddie was so fond on in the center of Steve's living room.
"We're the last." Steve told Wayne, softly, "I killed the rest for killing my spawn, I understand."
Wayne looked at Steve, really looked at him and saw what he'd been before Wayne had left the Down Below so long ago.
Small, unassuming creature, the one that liked demobats and demogorgans, easy meal, the thought ran through Wayne's mind, as it had so many times before.
But all things had a breaking point, all things had that one thing they would destroy worlds for.
Wayne nodded as Steve looked at Eddie with something akin to love in his eyes, it wasn't the same as a human's love, no theirs was deeper, more possessive, thier love was dangerous in ways only a human psycopath's love was, obsessive and eternal.
Eddie would never be permitted to have another, and Steve would never let him leave him, their kind may not need another to spawn but when they paired it was for life.
Oh, Wayne was going to have to have a talk with Eddie, one he had hoped never to have.
Eddie may not be Wayne's blood but Wayne had raised him, it made sense that Eddie would attract Steve.
Like calls to like afterall.
-
A/n; i need you all to know that i did not even consider Argyle because in my head they met when Jonathan and the rest of the Cali Crew arrived, but i can see it.
The other one was always Wayne to me, and part of me is pleased that he wasn't anyone's guess because yeah.
Also that throwaway comment he made about nothing human being able to do that to Chrissy made me think that maybe he knows things, thus Eldritch Wayne, I'm not tagging it so people can be shocked.

Lots of questions time! (o^▽^o)
1. Genuinely curious about this.
If Sun had several night stands before because he was a party boy,did that affect his love for the pry/ncess or not? Was it something to move on since Moon was meant to marry them in the first place?
Or was it just because the moment called it?
Also does your version of the Pry/ncess mind it at all? Sun being a party boy and finding out about hsi times at the frontiers?
2.Since Moon is a fan of astrology, would he have a favourite constellation that he can think of?
Or perhaps would associate his Brother with,or even the Pry/ncess?
Like putting little memories behind them, and choosing that constellation as their resemblence, because it sounds like such a cute idea,I couldn't handle it!
3.What's your favourite character in Bethroned if you have any, that you enjoyed writing so much that it meant a lot to you personally?
4.How come that in the human's kingdom, the towns are named after Afton's children if he didn't really treasure most of them? Is there a specific scheme behind it? That he tried to keep hidden from the people?
5.What was Sun's opinion on the arranged marriage between Moon and the Pry/ncess.
If Moon was still alive and separated of course, and he would get to witness the wedding. What would he feel at that moment?
5. Do you have any voice claim for Moon other than the one in-game?
6.If your version of the Pry/ncess had a favourite flower in this world, what would it be?
7.If Sun ahd the opportunity to make friends, was Moon able to do the same for example when the Pry/ncess was gone?
Or did he just remain lonely in his tower?
8.Do you have any examples of what Sun and Moon's rooms look like through text or image? Still have some trouble visioning them, having a proper image of how it looks like.
9: What's your opinion on the "Enemies to Lovers" trope.
10.Would the Pry/ncess ever ask the twins the question "Would you love me as a worm" unironically to see their reaction?
If so what would that be?
Annnnd that's about it,thank you for your attention and HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR VACATION AND HALLOWEEN PARTY. <33
It did not! Sun is a man with a lot of love to give, and while he did love the people he shared his time with, it wasnt the same sort of feeling you gave him. It was an attempt from him to move on, yes!
His favourite is the andromeda constellation, by far
3. The Pry/ncess. I hadnt expected to start loving them so much, but theyre a much more complex character than I had originally planned. They are my wet cat baby girl who just wants a break and im obsessed with them
4. Public Image. Naming towns after your children and the man you usurped helps make you look like a much kinder man than you are
5. Trevor Belmont from Castlevania! Here!
6. A Dahlia, hands down (though theyre also partial to thistles)
Tumblr media
7. Moon has a hard time making friends, and an even harder time when his brother isnt there to break the ice for him. He's friendly with a few of the servants and other working class people in the castle, but after the incident, that was over.
8. Here ya go!! Theyre super super rough, I may clean them up someday but for now- here ya go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9.
Tumblr media
10. They'd ask it jokingly while genuinely wanting to know their answer. Sun would say yes before they even finished asking, and would go on to talk about how hed make you a nice little worm house and find you the best dirt. Moon would ask why you became a worm, if you still have thoughts, if you can explain to him that you are yourself when he comes across you as a worm, etc. After answering all your questions he'd tell you that hed put you in the garden. Where worms go.
I LOVE RECIEVING QUESTIONS LIKE THESE AND SO MANY AT ONCE THANK YOU!!!!

sooo I have some questions about mason becuase he seems like a really interesting character. Also it was kind of funny how he’s fine with beating up or electrocuting a pet but the second someone lets them go online or gives them slightly lax rules, he’s like oh no this poor sweetheart, this is so sad😞 . Would he punish a pet for panicking a lot or getting freaked out easily? Or what if a pet was transgender? Would he tell them they were just being silly or would he actually listen to them? What if a pet saved his life? Would he be grateful?
Thank you for the interest!! Mason is what I like to call an evil therapist with a HEALTHY dose of condescension.
Would he punish a pet for panicking/freaking out easily?
Not necessarily, it depends on why the pet is scared. If there is something genuinely stressful going on (getting a new owner, tension in the home, medical, even something like a thunderstorm) he would not punish them. In his mind, that is not willful disobedience. They are scared, they are stressed, and pets are simple creatures that struggle to regulate themselves. That is part of the owners job. If the panic stems from like a panic disorder, Mason is incredibly sympathetic of that. He would train the pet with calming exercises they can use and suggest medication if needed.
If he gets the vibe the panic is an act of manipulation, that will be punished.
What if a pet saved his life? Would he be grateful?
Very! But it wouldn’t change anything. You know those news stories of dogs dragging children out of fires or cats alerting parents that the child was having a medical emergency? He’d see it like that. He’d absolutely thank the pet and do an interview on the news but in the end the pet is still just a pet.
And this one was a fascinating question Nonny!!! I did put it under the cut because of some transphobia, however I mostly just talk about gender in my worldbuilding. Perhaps gatekeeping or delusion is a better term but the end result is transphobia so I’m gonna warn as such.
What if a pet was transgender? Would he tell them they’re just being silly or actually listen to them?
It should be emphasized again that Mason does not believe pets are human. He does not think they are people. You cannot change his mind, he is stuck in this delusion.
… you know what. I don’t think Mason believes pets know what gender is. In a way he sees them as toys or dolls, and he is the one making decisions about what they wear. If he thinks Rudy would look cute in a dress he’d just buy Rudy a dress. Rudy does not get a choice in what he’s wearing, not in any meaningful way.
If a pet (for some reason lmao) came to him and said they’re trans, he might laugh and say “from what?” He’d also ask where they even heard that and likely dismiss it as “that’s something for humans. You don’t need to worry about it.”
I mean, also in this world I’ve created literally what WOULD gender mean to a pet? There are no specific gender roles or expectations- they’re all just pets. And sterile. There’s no social influence of how they’re supposed to be acted based on their assigned gender at birth. Oh for sure they have expectations but they’re all based on their “class” for a lack of a better term.
Fuck me my ocs should have way more weirdness with their gender identity after being freed. That would be so bonkers to go from a world where it doesn’t exist to where it dictates everything.
(Also in the end this still ends up having a lot of my own feeling and opinions about gender in it. Your characters are the biggest fucking snitches every time. Honestly I have tussled with gender specific stuff for a while but it’s mostly based in religious trauma. I’m trying to sort it out but it’s a complicated ever changing messy thing. Idk. Slowly chipping away at it. I’m saying this to be transparent and as a plea to not be abrasive. I don’t expect it but I am fucking delicate sometimes and need to explicitly explain why I do or think the things I do. Is this too raw for a post on tumblr.com about my silly little ocs? Yes absolutely. Should i delete this part? yes. Will I?)

Not me listening to "Soldier, Poet, King" and having flash of Lilia, Levan and Meleanor.
Lilia being the "Soldier who carries a mighty sword". General Vanrouge can totally tear someone city if needed too.
Levan being the "Poet who weapon is his words". For the little we know on him, he's more an intellectual. He was a child that wasn't much brave, perhaps a bit of a scary cat/crybaby if we compare to Lilia or Meleanor. But Lilia said himself he was the one to "teach them a language humans could understand". Plus, even if he seems like a pretty chill characters, I have this fun headcanon of him being angry, with a lovely malleus cheeky-like smile on his face, and litterally tear someone appart with truth- No insult. No violence. Just him splitting so politly his venom on a rude character you're not sure if he compliment them and tear them appart-
And Meleanor being the "Ruler whose brow his laid in thorn", for the obvious reasons of the Draconia clan ressemblance the Maleficient, the witch of Thorns, but also because she is really the prettiest rose -with the most dangerous thorn. She is also royalty, and the only princess. She's also seems like a kind of divine entity for most of her people. Like Malleus. There's a little line between being seen as a god and as a monster when powerful.
Now- I don't have the drawing skills to do that. But the animation in my head is really good and touching, and "I need a tissue please-". With these three and memories of their childhood mixed to their tragedy-

Hello 🦋 Anonie 🌺🌻
Come here 🦋 Anonie, come here, I’m just going to:
Tumblr media
The way I ran to listen to this song when I saw what you wrote! It fits them so much and I’m just…
Tumblr media
General Lilia Vanrouge, even current Lilia, can and will destroy the city and anyone who tries to hurt what’s his, having magic or not be damned.
And then!! The poet!! Okay, okay, I was writing about a Levan theory today and yessss, this fits him so well! Levan, the future thinking, the one who pushed for talks between the humans and fae. This!! “Poet who’s weapon is his words” indeed!! Out of the three, Levan is probably the more calmed headed, and someone has to be when you have Meleanor and a young Lilia in the mix right?
I agree and I see Levan as the type to hurt with words. It can be figuratively and literally, words can hurt when spoken, but he is a fae and he does have magic, so I can imagine a curse mixed into these words as well…the other party none the wiser.
Everything you wrote about Meleanor is so true!! Also the whole “ruler who will slay your city” fits her so well, we know she’s powerful and she could have brought them all down. I mean her own soldiers fear her greatly, she is as beautiful as a rose but also as dangerous as the thorns from such a beautiful flower.
I feel you 🦋 Anonie, I wish I had the drawing/animation skills. The whole idea is so epic. Memories of these three together as children, and as time passes, they have to let go of their childhood.
One with a country on her shoulders, and two of them protecting the country as soldiers in their own ways.
Eventually for all three to meet tragedy as history continues…with one dead, one missing, and one living.

Since I got volume 2 of the Media Factory manga way earlier than intended, I decided to re-translate it to find any oddities, mistakes or general trivia :) and I did find. A lot.
I'll also redirect you to @radiant-featherball's own post about the Japanese version of the whole manga, and @the-crow-binary's hilarious dissection of the French translation that seems to have more in common with this one.
A typical mistake: the translation keeps "Rosaly-nee-chan" as "Sister Rosaly", implying that Ted or all the children she's taking care of are her actual siblings. It confused me the first time around :P
English: "Adrian... Not just Hector, but now you too. Foolish betrayers..."
Japanese: "アドリアン… ヘクターのみならず貴様までが。愚かな裏切り者どもめ…"
The translation is 1:1, but it's one that contains multiple nuances. Dracula calls Alucard kisama, the suffix ども implies a higher status of the speaker, and the suffix め is even more derogatory. Dracula is mad :)
English: "A great many of us will be coming..."
Japanese: "ほどなく、奴が来る"
"He will be coming soon."
I like the implication that Hector is lumping himself with the demons, but he's clearly talking about Isaac here.
English: "And what do you mean by 'us'?! Are you a devil, too?!"
Japanese: "「我らの」ってどういう意味だよ、あんたも悪魔なのかよ⁉"
"What did he mean by 'our'? Are you a demon too?!"
In Japanese, Ted is referring to something the werewolf says way back in volume 1: "You're one of our...!" ("我らの!"). Perhaps the translator thought that it would be hard to remember such a small line from the previous volume, and this is why they changed the exchange in this scene.
English: "I am the Devil's Sorcerer. At an evil castle to the east of here... I immersed myself in evil, and I commanded evil. My powers attract the ways of the darkness. They are cursed. Although I am human, I acquired the art of creating devils... and there is no doubt that they inflict harm on humanity."
"I am a Devil Forgemaster. To the east of here, in the Demon Castle… I was entrusted with demons and I subdued them: I acquired the art of creating devils. Mine is a cursed power that attracts the followers of darkness. Although I am a human being, there is no doubt that I am a creature that causes harm to people…"
(sadly "followers of darkness" is not quite a reference to the tracks in CoD, the word is different)
The words are rearranged, but they are more or less the same. There are however some significantly different nuances.
One, "evil"/"demon". As far as I know, 魔 means exclusively "devil/demon/evil spirit", so I went with that. This changes the meaning of the verb 帯びる from "being tinged with, being imbued with" to "being entrusted with" (although it is canon that Hector was imbued with evil energy, so both interpretations are technically correct).
Two, the ambiguity of the subject in the last line changes the meaning. In the official translation, 存在 was assumed to mean the devils, and so they are the ones who inflict harm on humanity. But personally, considering the previous "although I am a human"... I think Hector is calling himself a creature that causes harm. Remember: he's really struggling to see himself as a human being :)
A bit of a funny detail: 悪魔精錬士 (akuma seirenshi, Devil Forgemaster) is spelled here as 悪魔精錬師. It's read the same, but the last kanji actually means "master" as in master of a craft, while 士 most commonly means "warrior" and in a suffix it merely means "person with a license". I wonder why this change.
English: "Hector! You disgusting child!"
Japanese: “ヘクター!忌み子め!”
1:1, but TIL that 忌み子 is an actual word that means "unwanted child, shunned child". Which hits even harder :)
English: "He's cursed... poor kid. How horrifying..."
Japanese: “呪われた…不吉な子。恐ろしい…”
"He's cursed... a sinister child. Terrible..."
不吉 means "unlucky", but in the sense that he brings back luck: he's a bad omen.
English: "And you brought home another black cat?! [...] I never should have given birth to you!!"
Japanese: "また黒猫なんて拾ってきて… [...] お前なんて産むんじゃなかった…!!"
1:1, but Hector's mother uses the expression なんて, which roughly means "something like" and expresses disdain. In case it didn't hurt enough :)
Hector's father is an alchemist, but by looking up the word, I learned that in Japan "alchemist" is also used to disparangingly describe people who want to make easy money, without morals or shame. And the story says that the man was so concerned about power and wealth that the other villagers hated Hector also because of his dad. Huh.
(@the-crow-binary proposed a headcanon that in the past the father swindled a witch to gain money, and she placed a curse on him, which is why Hector was born with his powers.)
English: "When my heart grows weak... the devil comes speaking to me."
Japanese: "心が弱まれば悪魔は語りかけてくる。"
"If my heart grows weak, the demons come speaking to me."
Surprisingly, the nuances of the English translation are vaguer than the original, stemming from how akuma is liberally translated between "demon" and "devil" and the confusion between singular and plural: it's unclear if Hector is talking about the Devil as in Satan, the demon who caused him the nightmare, or even the fairy. The latter is because the word 使い魔 ("familiar") was translated as "servant devil", further muddying the terminology. In Japanese, it's much clearer that Hector is referring to the demons who torment him.
Also this is more of a nitpick, but the ば form implies a more hypothetical condition than "when". It's not a common occurrence: it's Hector's fear.
English: "For someone reputed to be the greatest sorcerer of the dark arts, you look pretty pitiful. I've been wanting to see you, General Hector!"
Japanese: "最強の悪魔精錬師ともあろう者がずいぶん情けない姿じゃあないか。会いたかったぞ、ヘクター!"
"For someone of your standing, the strongest Devil Forgemaster, you look quite pathetic. I missed you, Hector!"
Someone should have given the translator the proper terminology used in the game because they clearly struggled :P
I never liked how in English Isaac sounds as if he never met Hector and he's finally getting the chance to do so, not helped by the mocking "General". The Japanese version goes to the polar opposite: 会いたかった literally means "I wanted to see/meet you", but it can also mean "I missed you", which IMO fits Isaac's way of speaking much more and implies a former closer relationship. i'm saying that he had such an obvious crush that there is no other way to read it
English: "Why? Why do you attach yourself so much to these people? [...] They turned their back on Lord Dracula, who has protected that land for so long. Traitors who bit the hand that fed them!!"
Japanese: "何故だ?何故お前はそんなにも「人」に固執… [...] 長らくあの地を守ってきたドラキュラ様に背き、奥方に手をかけて裏切り者ども!!"
"Why? Why are you so fixated on those humans? [...] They are traitors who went against Lord Dracula, who has protected that land for so long, and laid hands on his wife!"
The English translation has a slightly different nuance: it almost implies that Hector grew fond of certain people, which is not true... yet :P in Japanese, it's more clear that Isaac is just taunting Hector's mercy for humankind as a whole, judging by his emphasis.
Also, as it was already noted, he specifically mentions Lisa in his speech, who was mysteriously cut in the translation.
English: "Otherwise... you'll fall victim to my spear right now, Hector."
Japanese: "さもなくば、今ここで我が槍のサビになれ、ヘクター。"
"Otherwise, become the rust on my spear, Hector."
The English translation works well enough. I just think that expression is raw :P it's expressed even better in French.
English: "It can't be true... there's no way. There's no way Count Dracula could be defeated."
Japanese: “そうだ… そんな、ドラキュラ様が敗れるはず…”
"That’s right… Lord Dracula must have been defeated…"
... either I'm misunderstanding something, or the translator took some liberties. Not that it doesn't work, actually it might be better... but I'm confused.
A minor note: when Hector is invested by the waves of the Curse, and he hears what appear to be demonic voices, they say "you killed it", as in his cursed power. In Japanese it has no object, it's just "お前が殺した", "you killed". Killing a power doesn't sound very natural, so I believe it's actually Dracula, shown in the vision, accusing Hector of killing him.
English: "Hector, damn you! You, I'll never forgive!"
Japanese: “ヘクター!貴様だけは許さん!”
The English translation always sounded off to me, but now I understand the intent. Isaac is specifically singling Hector out: he's saying that he is the only one (だけ) he won't forgive, even though he has realized that Trevor has killed Dracula. But without italics it's hard to convey this emphasis on "you", so I can't blame the translator too much.
I just noticed that the official translation, when describing the aftermath of Trevor's victory on Dracula, calls him "the young lord of Belmont". In Japanese it's simply "若きベルモンド家の英雄", "the young hero of the Belmont family". accidental nfcv foreshadowing?
English: "You alone always kept yourself looking human!"
Japanese! "お前は昔から… 自分だけいつまでも人間のような顔をして!"
The English translation is very literal. I think I would translate this as "You always were the only one who kept yourself human!", even if literally it means "you alone always had a human-like face!" lmao
(an interesting note. Isaac here is more parsimonious with the use of kisama towards Hector than I expected: he only insults him when particularly angry, like after he insulted Dracula or while he was falling. In every other instance he sticks to the casual omae. Even when he's saying that if they had been with Dracula, Belmont wouldn't have killed him. Food for thought.)
English: "You possessed more powerful sorcery than I! And you were able to get closer to Count Dracula over me!!"
Japanese: “俺より強い魔力を持ち、俺よりドラキュラ様の近くにいながら...!”
"Even though your magic is stronger than mine, and you were closer to Lord Dracula than me...!"
That "even though" (ながら) subtly changes the nuance. Isaac isn't just venting: he's confused as to why Hector, despite being Dracula's special boy, insisted on "looking human", or clinging onto his humanity.
As I pointed out here, chapter 4 is not called "redemption", but "atonement". The two words have slightly different nuances :)
When Rosaly tells Hector that the priest has spread the news that Trevor saved everyone, she speaks in a respectful way. She calls Trevor "Belmont-sama", calls him an exorcist, ("悪魔払い") and uses keigo when talking about his feats ("救って下さった"). It's cute and it shows how much Trevor is respected for his feats :)
English: "It might not be a bad idea to stay here for a while in this sunny place..."
Japanese: "ほんの少しだけこの日だまりに身を置くのも悪くはない。"
"It wouldn't be bad to stay under the sun for a little while..."
Kind of. 日だまり means "sunny spot". The translation works perfectly fine, and it paints Rosaly's house as a warm, happy home... but I think this is meant to be a callback to the first page of this scene, Hector standing under the shadow and Rosaly dragging him to the light. Hector is finally accepting to stand under the sunlight :)
These are nitpicks so forgive me for being nitpicky :P
English: "No. You've let me stay a long time. This is the least I could do."
Japanese: "いや。長居させてもらってるんだ、これくらい。"
"It’s fine. You've let me stay for so long."
As lovely as this is, I don't think there was any need to make the sentiment explicit. Also "no" as a response to "I'm sorry, I turned you into a porter" feels unnatural.
Also, Rosaly gets offended when Hector asks if she's going to eat all the apples, but "How insulting!" is very literal. She says "失礼ね!", and it could have been a much more natural "Rude!".
English: "So... it's been a big help with you helping me with everything."
Japanese: "だから、ヘクターがいろいろ手伝ってくれてとても心強いのよ。"
"That's why it's so reassuring to have you helping me with all sorts of things."
Hector is not just helping. His kindness is reassuring to Rosaly in these turbulent times :) even if the world is getting scarier, so much that even she is getting worried, having Hector at her side puts her at peace :)
During Hector's big nightmare, when demons assault him to tell him that he can't stay with Rosaly, they say "we cannot be with humans". They use 僕たち for themselves. 僕 is the same pronoun Hector used as a child, which is nothing odd in on itself... but child Hector is often equated to a demon, and even speaks like one in Hector's nightmares. Makes you think :)
English: "But if my willpower weakens as it has now... I might end up repeating the same mistake again."
Japanese: "だが今のようにタガが外れれば、俺はまた同じ事を繰り返してしまうかもしれない。"
"However, if I lose all control like right now, I might end up repeating the same thing again."
I don't know, the English version isn't wrong but doesn't quite have the same impact to me. Perhaps because "losing control" fits more with him having a breakdown in this scene, and it makes clearer that Hector has to actively struggle to not let the demons nearby.
Hector says "You and the children will realize that I'm something to be detested". The wording is 忌むべき存在, which literally mean "abominable creature", but it could be condensed into a more natural "abomination".
Two similar examples where past and present are mixed.
English: "I was hated and avoided by people. And chased away. The power I acquired didn't bring me peace. But I could not get rid of it. I didn't know what would happen to me. What am I supposed to do now?"
Japanese: "人に忌み嫌われ、追われるのが、手に入れた力は俺に平穏はもたらさなかった。それでも、捨てられない、捨てればまた俺はどうなるかわからない。どうしたら良かったというのだ。"
"I was hated and chased away by people, but the power I gained didn't bring me peace. Even so, I can't throw it away, and if I do, I don't know what will happen to me again. What should I have done?"
Of course Hector speaks in the present. He's still struggling with his powers and his self-loathing related to them.
English: "The only ones who came to speak to me were the demons."
Japanese: "俺に語りかけてくるのはいつも悪魔だけだ。"
"Demons are the only ones who always come to speak to me."
This whole breakdown was caused by demons, so yes, this is something that is still going on. It also ties better with Rosaly asking if he can also hear her voice.
English: "The one place that recognized my powers and accepted me..."
Japanese: "ただ一つ力を認め、受け入れてくれた場所…"
"The only place where my powers were accepted and welcomed…"
So I have some disagreements on the exact meaning of 認める in this context. Among the many translations of this word, there are "to recognize" and "to accept, allow". The official translation went with the former, but to me it doesn't sound very natural, and it doesn't fit with the emotional weight the castle has for Hector. "Recognize" almost implies that it's a mere matter of pride. "Accept" really emphasized that Hector thought he had found his home.
(also yes, by changing 認め to "accept", I had to change the translation of 受け入る. It has the connotations of accepting a request, receiving something, so I think "welcomed" sounds fine here)
English: "Count Dracula... My powers were recognized and needed by you. There were times where such things gave me joy, but... perhaps you also fell victim to your own curse."
Japanese: "ドラキュラ様… かつて貴方に認められ必要とされた力。その事に喜びを覚えた事もあったが... 貴方もまた自らの呪いに負けたのか。"
"Lord Dracula… you once accepted and needed my powers. There was a time when such a thing gave me joy, but… Have you also succumbed to your own curse?"
And this scene is the reason I am positive that "to accept" is the correct meaning of 認める in this context :) it makes much more sense that being accepted by Dracula, not merely recognized, would fill Hector with joy.
By the way, Hector refers to Dracula as anata but not with polite language, just like in CoD when Drac gets resurrected again. He has cut ties with his Lord so he no longer needs to be formal, but he still keeps at least a hint of respect :) and shout out to the literal only time Hector bothers to call him "Lord" after his defection.
English: "First, I have to get a taste of what happiness is for other people. That way, it'll be more... fun."
Japanese: "お前がもっと人の幸せというやつを味わってから、その方がきっと… おもしろい。"
"Once you get even more of a taste of human happiness, it will surely be more… fun."
... no idea where that "I have to" comes from, when the omae is right there.
(an odd quirk I just noticed. Hector and Isaac speak more or less in the same way - masculine, casual, contract negative forms - but Isaac alone tends to say じゃあない instead of じゃない: it's longer. I find it funny, I can just hear the mocking tone)
So this one got long! The official translation is pretty good, save for a few "unnatural" moments, but the nuances in the Japanese version make this story even more interesting for me. Here's to a similarly interesting post for volume 1 if I get it!

rambling about chapter 3! Under cut because spoilers and also long.
So, overall thoughts? I enjoyed this experience very much, although I feel some things could have been utilized or used better. Am I saying this because I wanted to see Catnap and the other Critters more? Kinda. I understand that this chapter was more back story oriented and not character oriented, and that kind of shows. But overall I won't complain toooooo much.
As far as everything else, it's good. We're getting into that now.
Let me talk about Catnap himself, or my nightmare baby as I've taken to calling him. Despite being under used for as much as he was hyped, I'm still very happy with his overall appearance. He's not actually a threat up until the end, but can be seen semi frequently throughout the chapter, constantly lurking and observing. Constantly stretching and contorting to find you wherever you may be. His legs are so stilted and stiff. Like fur stretched poorly over bones. As he's meant to be. His bones are visible, and it reminds me a bit of my own decrepit old cat.
As for his second form, I wish we saw a bit more of it. I can see a mix of inspirations in his design, obviously the Cheshire cat, but also the Caterpillar from Alice in wonderland, as guessed by his insect like appearance and the gas expelled, similar to how said caterpillar smoked and produced. I also see some xenomorph in there, looking at the tail and back, as well as his overall hunting patterns.
And for his "death", there's a good bit to be said, though I'm not sure how to word it. We didn't kill him at the end of his boss fight, rather just burned off all his fur. Although weakened he was still clearly alive. However he willing gave himself to the prototype, which given his character points make sense. Maybe the prototype gave him a less painful death than what we would have delivered, or perhaps he's not dead at all, not entirely anyway. He will hypothetically live on in the form of the prototype, but he could also be brought back in later chapters to some capacity Similar to huggy.
The rest of the Smiling Critters though, we do not know much about, apart from what we can gather from the audio in their cutouts. Which, while short, tell us a lot. The ones that stand out the most to me are Hoppy Hopscotch and Kickin' Chicken (who sounds like Ed). Also shout out to Picky Piggy. Cannibalism for the win! (Or maybe not, because its not the same species... hm.)
Hoppy sticks out to me due to how hopeless she sounds. It sounds like she's trying to calm someone (perhaps a child, unfortunately), into jumping "to the moon,". But if I had to guess, it wasn't actually to the moon and was instead a way out of the terrible situation, or maybe she really did think they could escape to the moon. However the last audio clip does have her screams, presumably as she falls to her death.
Kickin Chicken, though, is another story. The most obvious thing is that he's never actually been outside, mirroring the orphans, but it also mirrors his last moments before getting picked off just as he steps outside, possibly outside the playcare. This may have been during the hour of joy, but it also could have been at any time, something done to anyone who somehow escaped the playcare.
What really interests me is the cutouts that don't end in screams. This makes me wonder if Bobby Bearhug and CraftyCorn turned more violent then the others. This does include Picky Piggy, but that one is more obvious based on her audio.
Otherwise, we have Miss Delight. A robotic teacher, who as it seems, knows a lot about human organs. As all things should be. (/lh). It's also heavily implied she ate her sisters, and was highly violent and would have harmed the children if given the chance. If I had to guess, this was prevented by lights being on during the school as the light freezes her in place. She was also honestly under used, her encounter feeling a little too condensed. It's just one time, go go go, and then done. Once again I won't complain mush as this is a more lore oriented chapter.
Unfortunately this is why I have little to say on Poppy, Kissy, and Dog Day. As interesting as they were, Poppy was really just there as a lore vector, Kissy as an emotional grab, and Dog Day to... make us greatly uncomfortable? This isn't to say I don't like them, in fact, I love them! I just find myself wanting more, although maybe not of Dog Day because that was a nightmare on its own. Eugh.
What's really on me though is the overall lore. They really didn't pull any punches. Starting with the PT like section in home sweet home, in which the radios tell us about Elliott, and the child's body they found in his house that was missing bones and organs. You know it's probably on me for thinking he was chill, but. Uh. Damn man. Not cool. (Also shout out to that whole section for the hallucinations bit. Re-Village style, makes me very happy to see.). Of course, he was already dead and I suspect just as well he could have been set up by whoever took over the company.
The most viscerally upsetting thing is arguably the cribs in home sweet home. The broken and bloody toys inside them do not bode well. You look and just know something awful happened. And it did. This and one of the tapes in which a couple comes to pick up a child to adopt, only to find out he's been taken for testing. This paints an overall bleak and disgusting picture of the company, which is what we all suspected, but somehow even worse and more blatant. I'd say the whole hour of joy was warranted, in a way, minus the innocents that got caught up in it.
Aaaannnd there you have it! A very disorganized ramble about chapter 3. I overall had a great time! I can't wait to see how much worse/better it gets in the future.

Alright, okay, so, hear me out, we have cat hybrids, we have dog hybrids, and we habe fox hybrids. So just imagine..a lion reader. Aghhhhh, like, they probably have the best fluffier hair, not to mention the muscles 😶
I can imagine characters like Itto always challenging them to arm wrestles and stuff. Like, they're one of the few who can match them in raw strength, and being around them makes him feel safe
Or, how about one of the scholars, like Albedo, All Haitam, or Dottore, who are always sorta fascinated by how the lion side of them affects them.
(Reader would probably have a really calm monotone voice right, except when they're mad, then they get REAL LOUD. They sound like they're in a screamo song.)
Characters like Traveller and Xiao who for the first time have someone they can rely on, and not the other way around
Imma say this just once, but naps would be a big plus. They are the perfect napping buddy.
What are your thoughts on this, and what would you like to add on about it? There's just so much to do with the idea!
Okay, I'm done gushing now.
🕊 anon
Okay, so being normal for a single second to say thank you for an excuse to talk about hybrids in Genshin. Pleas forgive any grammar and spelling errors, I am very excited
And now
FROTHING AT THE MOUTH. YOU WANT TO HEAR MY THOUGHTS ON OTHER KINDS OF HYBRIDS? YOU'RE GONNA HEAR ABOUT MY THOUGHTS ON OTHER KINDS OF HYBRIDS.
Lions are one of the most obvious cases in nature of sexual dimorphism. So I think that would carry over to hybrids.
Amab folk naturally developing thicker, longer hair. Perhaps getting a proper mane. I honestly can't think of a reason why they wouldn't have a straight up mane.
The social aspect of it would be interesting. Typically, Lion Hybrids would be Polyamorous. At least, the amab folk would be, but I think the afab too. Families consisting of 1-3 amab or trans men with 4-8 afab or trans women and any of their children. Ignoring for a moment that most lionesses in a normal pride are related to each other.
Sons are typically expected to be out of the home early, while daughters usually stick around for a while.
Originally, the women of these hybrids are hunters and warriors. Men usually staying home to care for the children. But now, more and more of these hybrids are just kind of out there. They're fairly common to see outside of their own communities.
Anyway. Now to what you actually asked for lol.
Itto and a Lion!Reader would be pretty evenly matched in terms of strength. He might find it a little comforting to have someone else be the strongest. Takes off some of the pressure to protect other people.
Lion!Reader would probably have a better reputation than Itto no matter what. Lions are not only seen as powerful, but as being regal and protective. Unless they were actively a violent criminal, Lion!Reader brings people comfort by being around. They have more sensitive ears than a human, sharper vision, and far more muscle. If someone wants to pull something, they probably won't do it with Lion!Reader around!
I think the scholars you've mentioned, with the exception of Alhaitham who I don't think is this kind of nerd, would be fascinated by a Lion hybrid.
Albedo is studying the anatomy, making sketches to improve understanding of the musculature of Lion hybrids. Ahem, if you'll allow him, that is? He's never pushy, but you're very aware that he would like to study you. His eyes are always on you, it would be a little unnerving if you didn't know he was just trying to understand how your body works.
Dottore may attempt a more... direct form of study. You may be subject to many experiments and vivisections. Uh, don't get caught? Or maybe you're into that idk.
You mentioned being loud? Hell yeah a Lion hybrid is loud! Lion!Reader's vocal structure allows for volumes exceeding 114 decibels! That's so loud that your yells could genuinely cause damage to someone's ears. Not yours though, your ears are capable of withstanding this kind of noise. Usually Lion!Reader
You want someone dependable? You got it. Capable of more feats of strength than a human, having more sensitive hearing and smell, and probably being raised with loyalty being drilled into their head, Lion!Reader is absolutely someone to turn to when you need help.
Xiao can rest a little easier when you offer, no, demand to take over his duties for some time. You destroy enemies with no problem, and if he just needs to rest, you watch over him. Xiao won't admit it, but this is the safest he has ever felt. His head on your lap while you silently keep watch.
The traveler can bring you on basically any commission without any sort of worry that you won't be able to handle it Especially if you have a vision. Finally, someone they can have as backup without any concerns of leading them to their death
And yes, perfect napping buddy. You make people feel so safe and warm and happy in your arms. :)))

Minor rant, yes I did just come from the Big Tugg video on how english is stupid and I entirely agree with him on that
What I do not at all agree with is the opening of the video entirely dedicated to hating children - he just goes out of his way to say "oh yeah before I start this video, I fucking hate kids" and then gives a list of things kids don't know, (because, they're kids) and dunk on them for not knowing stuff
And I find it kinda ironic the person who says that kids should not feel proud of learning- sorry, memorizing- the alphabet, also mispronounces the word Celtic not ten seconds later. Perhaps we all could learn a thing or two by expanding our general knowledge and studying cultures and languages outside our own?
Speaking of languages, side-tangent-within-a-side-tangent, removing s or k and compounding them both into c is a shit take that I'm seeing way too much, when the obvious answer is to get rid of c, it only functions as a replacement for s or k and in either function it creates unnecessary problems (it's really unnecessary for "unnecessary" to be spelt like that but different topic) and that's why a Bunch of fucking languages around the world do Not include a c, such as the language I was forced to learn since birth and Still cannot speak: Afrikaans. There is not a single c in that language and I have never had a spelling mistake from s or k ever. Other mistakes sure but not concerning those.
And you may be wondering "well why can't we just contract the sounds into less letters to save space in the alphabet?" Because while that would not necessarily be so bad, that shit gets real out of hand real fast the more you do it, and all I'm saying is don't come knocking when you can't spell doodle when your a's are also e's and your u's are also i's
Anyway back to the topic of hating kids
This may seem like a wildly specific rant about one youtuber mentioning it offhand once, but I assure you this is not the first time today I've heard this. I hear this multiple times a week. From different people
For some damn reason it's kinda always been a popular take to hate kids and openly talk about how much one would like to see them suffer, and I don't fucking understand it at all???
Like, ok, you find their constant questions and mumbles and movements and other weird sounds very annoying, cool, I find the several cats outside my window doing many unsavoury things to each other each and every night annoying but I still don't talk about it like it's ok to hurt them
And maybe we can take a moment to rationalize the fact that kids tend to ask a lot of dumb things and say a lot of dumb things, because they're dumb?? they have far less experience on this earth than anyone who knows the definition of "economy", and do not yet know how to do basic living shit like how to cook a whole ass chicken, and they don't need to just yet, that's the point
People who don't know shit are going to do and say things as a consequence of not knowing shit
And this is very much a long-winded vent about something that doesn't really effect me at all, but I do in fact see it as a personal problem because not too long ago I too was a kid that didn't know shit, and I was a piece of shit because of it, sure, but something I very much remember is having to deal with people who hated me simply for existing, and I no longer have to deal with people hating my existange as a child, yes, but I still have various other unchangable things about myself that people hate me for, so through that experience I don't think it's a good thing to hate kids just because they're kids, regardless of how annoying the youtube comments are, and at the very least if you're going to think the spawn of your fellow humans are actually the spawn of satan, please do not talk about like it's a normal ass thing
And hey, maybe there's also a part of my brain that has yet to even fucking register that I'm in my roaring 20's now, so that may be why when I come across people hating kids I feel personally attacked
So with that knowledge, if you say to me that you hate kids, for whatever reason, rest assured I already hate you

Now for the other half of the Nexomon Extinction bit: story, characters, creatures, etc. The non-mechanics. And this? This is, I think, their stride.
To clarify: we are currently through the Drake Isles. My wife started in on the Frozen Tundra, but had to double back for levels due to some team composition changes. Everything I'm talking about is only up through that point. I'd say "please don't share future details," but the Nexomon tag here seems to be like three people, and the Reddit forum hasn't updated in two years, so I'm probably safe. That said, I'm about to be that spoiler for everyone else. Yes, all three of you.
The story's pretty good! The first game was mostly fine, if goofy. The netherworld section had a great conclusion that really set things up nicely. Omnicron was released, but waited for your return as its rival; the strongest human against the strongest Nexomon. You win, and can destroy him, leading to the inevitable extinction of all Nexomon. They kinda leave off there, though, with the post-game being "His children also came back, but you can find them with this radar thing." It's contextless acquisition of legendary monsters though, nothing story-based occurs.
Extinction picks up 1000 years later, where the central conflict seems to be that these major beasts called Tyrants are awakening and fighting each other for dominance, in a war to find a new king to replace Omnicron. Humans are pushing back, and have dragons that are made to hunt these Tyrants, in order to prevent a sort of second coming of Omnicron that could wipe them out.
Your role in this is that you're a starting tamer going off on your quest when you are attacked by a dragon and have to find shelter. This kicks off a chain of events that sees you join the guild to fight against the Tyrants, and also to owning an egg that will one day hatch into a Tyrant. Things go as they go, fighting different Tyrant masters and eventually learning some really fun stuff about some of the major players being perhaps a tad extreme. It's a really interesting pivot, and I really enjoy how things are framed.
Cast is a lot more dynamic this time too. Not that there weren't interesting ones before, but I feel like a lot of it existed to be goofy. This time around, they're a little more...established? Or maybe I just find them more interesting. Amelie is fascinating, I like her a lot. There's a scene talking about how her life's work could go to waste if she doesn't take action, and the response is just a calm "If it could be undermined that easily, then what good was it? Let the best course win." Her motivation really is a sort of "good for the people" mentality, regardless of her own standing.
The children of Omnicron are back, and we get a bit more resolution about what's going on with them. Specifically, confirmation that the player character from game 1 did go back to defeat and imprison each of them, and they're really salty about it. It's interesting, because neither of them are particularly hostile anymore, just dissatisfied with their circumstance. I do like that both of the children we've met have kinda come around to you, at least mildly. Nadine in particular giving you advice on how to not die implies some level of interest in what you're doing. Given that Deena is currently standing against the current antagonist, it would be interesting if all the children aligned on this one. They're bastards, but I do love a good domesticated villain.
The creatures themselves are good to great. I like a lot of the creative work on these designs, and in particular love the amount of cats. Lunabelle is my favorite design in this series so far. I'm also a big fan of Malitress, Madamusa, Sirnympha, and Floreina. Some of the dragon designs are also really cool. I don't generally like standard dragons, but the dragons that don't strictly look like dragons are my jam. So big fan of the Psychic and Ghost dragons. The starter designs are all really strong, too. Even the ones I didn't love at first really grew on me. I think, by and large, I like this set of Nexomon better. There are a few designs I really miss, but this is a good batch.
I have been very satisfied with the general experience of the game overall. It's been great.

15 Questions, 15 Mutuals
Tagged by @andromedaexists! It's cool your names have connections to family and saints, and that you've tried so many things/sports. Your cats sound adorable (though this goes without saying for cats perhaps).
As for myself:
1. Are you named after anyone? Yes! My mom wanted to give me a "hippie" name like Freedom or Windsong or something, but my dad would have none of it. In one of their rare instances of compromise, they settled on naming me after a folk/pop singer who was big in the 70s. If I decide to change it at some point, I'll probably choose something very similar in spelling/sound.
2. When was the last time you cried? Like two days ago while thinking about a scene where a character experiences Gender Thoughts (positive). And the day before that while listening to talks on medieval history about humans being humans. Then last weekend, while watching Puss In Boots with my partner. Look, it's not outright sobbing and tears, but I do mist up a lot, okay? For someone who had to numb their emotions to survive much of their childhood and teen years, I appreciate this actually. That despite whatever pain I've experienced it couldn't stop me from recognizing and overflowing at the pleasure and beauty all around me.
3. Do you have kids? No, and no plans to. I'm content with my affection for the children of others in my life.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I think so? I definitely used to, though I think I've cut back on it significantly.
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? The way they speak and how they communicate in general. Accents, idioms, whether they're confident (and if that confidence is bravado or well-founded), is their choice of words vibe-based or definition-based, etc. I'll recognize someone's voice before their face tbh. 😅
6. What’s your eye color? Brown. I get compliments on them.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? Both? Depends on my mood. I always love a "hard-earned happy ending", though. Those Situations really did a number on my blorbos, but they kept on keeping on. That sort of thing.
8. Any special talents? Defying expectations, I guess? I often apply for jobs/sign up for experiences where the people in charge just go, Um, are you sure you're supposed to be here? And I'm like, Sure, why not, let's go. Then I do pretty well at whatever it is and they're impressed, mostly because they thought I couldn't/wouldn't stick around. People also seem to generally like my baking.
9. Where were you born? Northern California, USA.
10. What are your hobbies? Writing, reading, little art projects, video games, gardening, baking, thinking too much, harassing various invertebrates, sea creatures, and neighborhood animals with my affection/fascination
11. Have you any pets? A cat named Mimi! She was a stray I agreed to adopt from a friend on Discord while drunk. This remains my best decision made while under the influence.
12. What sports do you play/have played? I did martial arts for the last seven years, including fighting in like 4 tournaments. I put it aside since college takes a lot of my energy now. Also, training is expensive, and the culture around it sucks pretty often. I'd like to get back into it one day, just with people who value it for reasons similar to mine.
13. How tall are you? 5' 8". I'm too American to be measured in cm (joke joke this is a joke the metric system and I are buds).
14. Favorite subject in school? Before college, lit/reading. As an adult, I really enjoy history and anthropology related stuff too.
15. Dream job? Making a living off my silly little gay vampire stories. But I'd settle for translating fiction between Spanish and English.
Copy/Paste for mobile users: 1. Are you named after anyone? 2. When was the last time you cried? 3. Do you have kids? 4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? 5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? 6. What’s your eye color? 7. Scary movies or happy endings? 8. Any special talents? 9. Where were you born? 10. What are your hobbies? 11. Have you any pets? 12. What sports do you play/have played? 12. What sports do you play/have played? 13. How tall are you? 14. Favorite subject in school? 15. Dream job?
No pressure tags (and no pressure to answer any questions you don't want to ofc) @vacantgodling @korblez @space-cadead @afoolandathief @cljordan-imperium @late-to-the-fandom @thecyrulik @blind-the-winds @muddshadow @theskeletonprior @rosieartsie @letsmakeitwrite @k--havok @likegemstone @thatndginger

I just thought about something Vulcans always have a logical answer for everything they do. All their pets are large predatory animals that could help defend them if need be and or be given to children to teach responsibility like Sehlats or an unnamed Vulcan bird of prey (think our falconers) to send messages. Just imagine what Vulcans would think if they saw a human with a strange pet that had no purpose and I’m not talking a dog or cat or ferret that can be used to hunt or keep pests at bay I’m talking Derpy goldfish in a tank, a garden snail or mouse that would actually count as the pest (I love mice and snails btw they aren’t pests but u know what I’m saying), or even a bug like a beetle, ant farm, or caterpillar.
If it were me I can imagine a Vulcan friend knocking on the door of my quarters to ask me a question like about anything: game/ movie night, a report, etc and asking their question while trying not to be distracted by the sound of water running in the background when the door finally opens. After the question is answered I can just see them trying not to look into my room cause it’s not polite and thinking I forgot and left a sink or bath running and with the desert climate of Vulcan I can see wasting resources like water being a HUGE pet peeve 😂
“Pardon me, but did you perhaps by accident leave the water on?”
“Huh?…” *💡* “ooooh that. Nah just the fish tank filter, it’s a waterfall filter”
“Fish tank?”
“Yeah lookie, it’s alright you can come in”
A minute of silence goes by as the vulcan blinks at the large fish tank, the fish show brief interest in hopes of getting food but soon go back to laying on the bottom or rooting around the substrate (I have corydoras a small bottom feeding shoalling catfish species, that’s pretty much all they do and act derpy 😂until they get evening zoomies and swim back and forth in the filter stream)
“What…is this?” The Vulcan gestures to the tank
“It’s a fish tank also known as aquarium and those are Corydora’s.”
“Ah. So your pets.” The human nods in reply and the Vulcan speaks up again “What purpose do they serve?”
“What do you mean?”
“What’s their function? Being aquatic they can not freely roam the room and eradicate pests. I also doubt they could provide any protection against intruders. What purpose do they serve?”
“Ooooh *laughs* nah they don’t do squat. They just swim around, eat, play, be derpy, and make a mess so I’ve got to clean their tank once a week.”
The Vulcan does that classic eye brow raise before slowly turning to face the human
“So not only do they not have a function but they make even more work for you?”
“Eh but I love them and would rather have my fishy friends then not. It’s therapeutic having something that needs me, even if it’s more work for me.”
“…” Vulcan deadpan
“…” Human stifles a laugh trying to mimic the emotionless deadpan expression
“I have a good acquaintance back on Vulcan who is having a hard time finding a mate as he is known to be, I believe the human expression is, high maintenance.”
“?”
“I believe you might be a good match.”
“…what’s this guy look like and what’s his personality type?”
—————-end————-
Omfg I love literally all of this! And the casual matchmaking at the end... *chef's kiss*
I honestly have no coherent thoughts to add to this, because my brain is imagining said "high maintenance" acquaintance. 👀 Don't misunderstand, the whole concept that you outlined above is amazing and I love it, but I am also inordinately curious about the Vulcan mans you dangled in front of me. 🙈 Yes, I'm ridiculous.
Anyway, I love this, Azora!! Thank you!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

KILL YOURSELF
You know, attention is a natural human need.
It's pathologized a lot, but fundamentally, human beings need other people's attention. We talk about this in negative terms on social media all the time- attention whores, attention seekers, call people desperate or depraved or what have you, but the fastest way to break a human being is to shut them up in a box alone. Solitary confinement has proved this beyond a doubt- it's extremely unethical, extremely cruel, and serves no purpose other than that cruelty. People need other people.
Now, you and I. We're not so different. This sounds very much like a villain speech already so i'll happily lean into it, if you'll do me the honor of picturing me holding a cat in my lap and settling back in this chair, and not in my raccoon shirt and cupcake pajama pants. I don't know who you are, what you were wearing when you sent this, if you were curled in your bed or on your laptop, or even what specifically was on your mind, but I know you're a person, same as me, and that means in and of itself that we are more alike than we are different, both wasting far too much time on this website, both seeking, fundamentally, attention.
It's been a few weeks since i got this ask, so perhaps I denied you that demand, perhaps you've already fucked off into the ether and will never see that I responded to this. Perhaps you saw me reply to one of the other messages I get that pretty much says this verbatim and assumed that was yours and went away satisfied that i'd responded with something resembling distress, or were annoyed that I didn't, I don't know, it depends on the day. At any rate, I've forgotten exactly what it was I said that prompted this. I'm not entirely sure it matters. It might have been that trans people are more important than a children's book series, or that Chrisp Rat's brother is a facist, or that you should keep scrolling when you don't like things. In any case, the message was clearly not internalized, but it was recieved, and isn't that the point? Aren't I just shouting into a void, looking for someone to shout back? Sometimes the return is positive, validation, reblogs, sometimes the echo of my voice is this sort of thing, but fundamentally, the answer of anger confirms, still, that I am heard. So thank you for that.
You are unkind, true, and of the scores of people like you, some of them will get under my skin, some of them will manage to bother me on a bad day, some of the hits will land. But I'm a writer, professionally, fundamentally, so I am doing this for attention. I am speaking so you hear my voice. You are shouting back, you are coming directly to me because you want me to hear yours. I can sympathize with that, even as i hold up a mirror, because here we are, the message received, the meaning lost. I don't know what you're so angry about. You haven't done anything to make me care. Was that what you wanted? Do you know what you wanted? I'd love, genuinely, to know what you hope to achieve. I think you should think about it too. You can wish me dead, or wish me gone, but if this sort of thing always achieved that result it would be a lot more illegal. Would you like to be a murderer? would you like to hold a knife in your hands? Would you have the guts to stab me with it, when you don't even have enough to turn anon off? I don't think you do. I don't think that's really what you want. I think you just want attention. So here, have it, freely given.

The State of Cat/Mouse/Den...
Tumblr media
So... there's some stuff I wanna talk about as it related to Cat/Mouse/Den and where the story can go from here.
Nothing bad, I promise! (well, kinda sorta, you may not like the ending of this one...)
Tumblr media
Basically, I have come to a fork in the road. Much of the story is completed in the strictest sense of the word but... I find that, unsatisfying? Almost, because I am enjoying myself writing it so much! The entire story started as exclusively what is now the last chapter but spiraled out of control. I was working on what has gotten posted for 2+ months before I started uploading, which is why what is written is so extensive in a lot of ways. If I continue writing the story, updates will be significantly less frequent and chapters will be shorter/etc.
But I do not want to stop. I am genuinely enjoying the story, I am loving the community, I am loving having a creative outlet, I am loving even the little formatting stuff I get to do for this silly little story of mine. I just, don't know what else to write.
C/M/D is mostly vignette based, there's points and nods to chronology (mouse gives her whetstone to konig, he has it in the subsequent chapters) but there's no major 'plot' so to speak. So, in theory, I could keep writing these vignettes! But, what do I write?
I think that's where community comes in. I have talked with other writers in this space to sort of decide what to do next and I have a couple ideas. I want to know what y'all think of the story, what was done well, what feels hollow. I already added a flashback section @bucca2 comment because in my own head I knew how it went, but I realized I had never written it out. I am not saying I'll write everything people suggest (I cannot write suggestions, if my hearts not in it I am not publishing it,) but I want some ideas from y'all!
So, what will become of Cat/Mouse/Den? I want theories, thoughts, suggestions, whatever! Asks are preferable, because I cannot directly respond to comments.
Okay! Now that that is out of the way, here is your reward for listening to me! Teaser beneath. (Warning, angst! this is the aforementioned "thing you may not like")

“We’ve got to stop meeting like this, meine majestät.” The cruel Angel hums, voice like forbidden fruit any man could be forgiven for falling for.
“Maus?” He calls out, desperate and confused and ready to shatter.
“Quiet as a.” She calls back, composed as if entrenched in amber and equally as unmoved by his predicament.
He’s always wanted to get his teeth around her pretty neck. He’s always desired to have his hands around her waist. He’s always hoped to be able to pound down into her quaking form. He’s been desperate to have her underneath him since their very first chance encounter. These feelings have been constant since he heard her beautiful voice, but suddenly they’re not the same.
Now he wants all those things, but instead of their motivation being love, it is bloodlust.
And intense bloodlust at that.
He’s never wanted to kill a woman, he finds it despicable that women more or less get turned into cattle during war. He’s sure that Freud would have something to say about his neurotic insistence on not harming the fairer sex even with his typical caliber of violence, but he’s never once cared to self-examine that. His entire military career, in fact, was dedicated to saving women and children from the horrors of a very male, very sexual world. Insertions specialist, yes, but specifically for human trafficking situations.
Looking into his wartime paramour's eyes, the intensity of hellfire overcomes him. His entire world crashes around him. He’s breathing in debris and dust as comes to the terrible conclusion that this entire time, it’s been her that has been perpetuating the injustice he so hates. That it’s been the thing he’s romanticized that’s been the fall of Rome. That it’s his savior that’s really been the perpetrator all along.
Perhaps the devil was once an angel, but to see his Angel for the demon she is? It breaks his heart into gory chunks of splintered bitterness and hacked arteries where once love pumped.
Never in his life has he ever wanted to kill a woman, never in his life he had loved a woman so completely either.
Those two ‘never’s die loudly and crudely in his chest as he recounts how to kill her most painfully in his own mind.
For her now obvious position perpetuating his most loathed evil? For tricking him into loving her? For both and neither? He doesn’t know. He’s about two seconds away from frothing at the mouth like a rabid animal that’ll break its bones escaping a trap. He’s got nothing in his brain, just white-hot anger from the tips of his combat boots to the tips of his ears.
Not even the outfit, or more appropriately the lack thereof, that she’s wearing can dissuade his anger. In any other circumstance, to see her in a black draped silk dress with hip-high slits on both sides and a full set of harness garters holding up sheer pantyhose would make him go feral. It would make him kneel, it would give him all the power to break out of these bindings on his own with no help and slam her down into the metal floor and have her right here. He has the desire to do all these things right now, but for all the wrong reasons.
She’s taking something out from beneath her left breast as he recounts every thought he’s ever had about her and how foolish they’ve all been. He thinks that the only consolation he may ever receive for this betrayal is if he can crush her windpipe in between his teeth.
Tumblr media
That's all for now folks! Hope you liked it :)

red mage: so basically arya should be a thaumaturge or black mage. she's really really good at the destructive magic and terrible at the restorative magics. why find equilibrium when you can min max and be a nuke.
Tumblr media
have you heard of ... blue? or perhaps... green?
I really like x'rhun, great character
given x'rhun's history in the ala mhigo im disappointed the 60-70 storyline isn't going there, ah well time to see what idyllshire has in store.
I was just thinking at the end of the level 60 quest if X'ruhn is in his 40s then lambert probably is too and arya looks to be a teenager, wouldn't it be be messed up is she was his daughter or something. the only reason i didn't quite believe it is because lambert said he's been in a magical coma for many years.
fake memories? artificial humans? many possibilities.
i think its pretty interesting that despite its reputation it is not black magic that is the successor to void magic, it is red magic. and this is despite both black and void magic originating from mhach.
irony that the swashbuckling aesthetic class ends up being the demon summoning dark magic storyline.
wait that coffin is why witchdrop is haunted??
hey i happen to know a certain kitty cat that is a mhach specialist. too bad the questlines can't be interdependent.
hmm even the red mage writers get conjury and white magic mixed up
sorry arya but the 50=60 stuff was far more interesting than the 60-70 stuff
dragoon! ... orn khai just ate like 300 times his body mass in flesh
ninja: ok so we got a bunch of hingashi pretending to be from doma to smuggle a scroll out of garlemarld? I'm just waiting for karasu to be involved somehow. wait wasn't the house of sticks dude murdered like at level 20? there's karasu!
Tumblr media
2nd? 3rd? time the game has said the doman rebellion was 1 year ago. the other time I remember off the top my head was right after doma castle when you talk to the blacksmith.
I feel so sorry for Akagi. we sent him on a goose chase to the literal opposite side of the planet.
Why is Karasu so focused on Oboro. he cares more about messing with him than literally anything else.
hey if zakuro is a mercenary we could buy out her contract.
Tumblr media
oh that's interesting. yomei and all the shinobi we have met implied that ninja are from yanxia. but hanzo is saying that its from hingashi. then again all the shinobi we talked to were domans talking about their specific ancestral villages.
I totally do not remember who master sasuke is. and i don't think karasu is dead (again). oh master sasuke is the founder of oboro's village
whm: castrum oriens is an odd name given how it means east but is situated in the WESTERN part of the garlean empire
Tumblr media
huh you can tell who is a padjal at birth. i remember reading in encyclopaedia eorzea or something that children only find out they're a padjal when the horn start growing in at like 10-15.
uh sylphie aren't you like 14. letting at 14 year old run the show and keep secrets from the conjurers guild while void sent are running around sounds like a recipe for disaster.
why not relocate both gatty and sanche to gridania. sanche would get better medical treatment, gatty would remain with her mother, there would be more conjurers on hand to deal with voidsent incidents, and there would be padjal on hand to tutor gatty.
the writers did this to keep sylphie's importance to the plot but this is a massive plot hole that e-sumi is having sylphie be gatty's teacher. first because as e-sumi himself said sylphie is still learning as an acolyte herself, she might have powerful instinctual magic but her learned knowledge isn't that good. second she wouldn't know white magic or padjal specific stuff. this is such a bad decision. also sylphie is still a kid has shown to be overwhelmed by the scale of this problem and having to take care of and be responsible for another kid. i guess the excuse is that it's technically the wol who's suppose to be doing the teaching but we all know that the player isn't going to be doing anything.
Tumblr media
uh she jsut summoned a voidsent you sure she doing need more training its been like a couple months at most
