Wait for Me: A One Shot
A/N: I had a ROUGH day yesterday, so I processed my feelings by writing a fic 😂. Needless to say, this one has a lot of feels. Enjoy.
Warnings: 18+ minors DNI, kissing, p in v penetrative sex, unprotected sex, creampie, infidelity (Elvis is married), angst I guessss
Word count: ~2.7k
Tumblr media
Songs: Weirdly enough, the songs that inspired this fic are not by Elvis. I know Elvis sang Unchained Melody, obviously, but in this fic it's The Righteous Brothers' version.
*************************************************
You never stopped loving Elvis. Not when he broke up with you. Not when you found out he was engaged. And not even when he got married and became a father.
You've loved him since you met him on a movie set in the mid-sixties. Your romance was a whirlwind that started hot and heavy and only got hotter and heavier as time went on. You'd never met someone who could light you up like he did. His energy was electric and you thrived in each other's presence. He told you once that he felt like before you his life was black and white and you made it technicolor.
You thought you had finally found the person you were meant to spend your life with and you were convinced he felt the same. But it all came crashing down when he came to you in '66 and said it was over.
He was crying when he said it and it nearly broke you to hear it. You begged and pleaded and screamed and cried, but he said he had no choice. That didn't make sense to you, but he was pretty insistent. Finally, at the end of the conversation, when you had no more tears left and a numbness had settled in your heart, you asked the question you didn't want the answer to. Was there someone else? He looked at the floor and nodded. The room began to spin and your hearing went out and you were pretty sure you were going to faint. He caught you and carried you to the couch. Then he kissed your forehead, your hand, your cheek, and your lips, and apologized. After that, he left, and you cried for the next month.
What you didn't know was so did he. Even though there was technically someone else, she wasn't someone that he wanted more than he wanted you. But his hands were tied by a decision he made so many years ago. He never dreamed you would come into the picture.
Either way, he married her and tried to make the best of it. And you bounced from meaningless relationship to meaningless relationship always searching for someone who could make you forget him. No one ever could.
You spent the next few years avoiding places where you thought he might be. But eventually you realized you had to live your life.
That's how you ended up at a party in Vegas with your most recent boyfriend in 1971. You're nervous because you know Elvis is in Vegas right now. It's not outside the realm of possibility that he could be here. Still, you've missed enough events. It's been five years. It's time to accept the fact that it's over and you might have to see him. And that you'll survive it even if you do.
******
You're nursing a drink with your boyfriend's arm thrown around your shoulders when you spot him. He's here with her, but of course he would be. You look down at your drink quickly and try to turn so that you're out of his eye-line, but you're too slow. You feel his eyes on you before you look up and meet them. There's something in them that you recognize, a hunger of sorts, and it shoots straight through you. You take a deep breath and try to turn away again. Your boyfriend notices your change in demeanor.
"What's wrong, baby?"
"Nothing, I just, let's dance."
You haven't told him about Elvis. There's really no reason to and besides, you don't talk about Elvis. Luckily, he's not curious by nature, so he walks you to the dance floor without thinking too much about it. As you dance, you try to focus on Mike and his sweet smile and chestnut hair and round brown eyes. He's a good man, a photographer, and he has the soul of a poet. The sex is satisfying and you enjoy his company. You should be in love with him. You're convinced if you try hard enough, you will be.
As you slow dance, though, you feel eyes on you again. You make the mistake of peeking over Mike's shoulder. Elvis has you locked into a look that's so intense you feel like you might burst into flames. You clear your throat and look away, trying to ignore all the old feelings that are bubbling up. Why does he keep looking at you?
You're not sure whether to feel the immense sadness or the anger that's starting to grow. You take a third path and look up at Mike, trying to convey a look of adoration. This is very purposeful, since you hope that Elvis will see it, read it, and assume you've moved on. But just then, Mike looks down at you and smiles.
"Hey, baby, I'm going to run to the bathroom. I'll be right back."
"Oh..." He gives you a quick squeeze and then moves towards the door. Left all alone, you go back to the bar to get another drink, praying Elvis doesn't notice. You're not sure what you'll do if he approaches you. Once you get your drink, you move to the side of the bar and try to focus on your drink until Mike comes back.
You feel him before you hear him, his scent overwhelming you with memories. He stands close behind you, but not too close. It's obvious he's trying to think of something to say and you stand there trying to keep yourself from turning and throwing yourself on him.
"Are you not even gonna look at me, honey?" You close your eyes at the sound of his voice. It's comforting in a way you haven't experienced since it ended between you. You turn slowly and look up into his face, making a concerted effort to blink away your tears. He holds his fingers up to your cheek but doesn't touch you. Instead, he drops his hand back down to his side. Every move he makes is like a form of slow torture for both of you. Finally, you speak.
"Why should I look at you?" You watch as your words cut through him. For a second, his perfect facade slips and you feel the anguish radiate off of him.
"I don't have an answer for that." He leans forward ever so slightly, seemingly trying to breathe you in. "I just..."
He trails off as Mike makes his way back to your side. Elvis secures his facade and they shake hands and chat politely. When Mike throws his arm around your shoulders casually, you feel the energy roll off of Elvis. You can't tell if it's anger or jealousy or sadness or all three. For a second you worry that he might throw a punch at Mike, but that fear fades as quickly as it appears when Elvis nods, smiles, and excuses himself from the conversation.
Your heart breaks when he walks away, but you know he has to. You look down at your shoes and try to will the tears away.
"Are you okay, baby?" You sniffle and look up at Mike, shaking your head enthusiastically.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine."
"You know, I've always heard that Elvis was a real down-to-earth guy, but he truly is. Have you met him before? He seemed to know you?"
"Yes. We've met before. We made a few movies together."
"Oh, that's right! I always forget you were in those." You're teetering on the edge of a full on breakdown, desperate to keep your composure.
"Let's go back to our dance!" You say a little too enthusiastically. He nods and leads you back to the dance floor just as they play a slow ballad. Mike holds you in his arms, not suspecting a thing. But the song, the song is Unchained Melody. It's something Elvis used to sing to you and you feel like you could scream, it hurts so bad.
You fight to keep the tears from falling and you think you just might pull it off until you see him. Over Mike's shoulder, you find him. He's got his wife in his arms, but he's looking at you.
That's it. That's all you can handle. You mumble some excuse to Mike and practically run out of the room. You make it outside before you completely fall apart. It's pouring down rain and dark, so you take full advantage and let the tears stream down your face. You're lost in the emotions when you hear him.
"Y/n?" You turn quickly and instinctively try to wipe the tears off of your face. You know it's him.
"What do you want, Elvis?" Your voice is unsteady and your hair hangs wet around your shoulders. You stand facing each other as the rain soaks him too.
"I-I-I I just wanted to make sure you're okay." You can feel that he's desperate to touch you.
"Okay?! You think there's a chance in hell that I'm OKAY?!" You're yelling because of the rain, but also because you're filled with something you can't quite identify.
"Y/n, I-"
"No. I don't want to hear anything you have to say."
"But-"
"Go back to your wife, Elvis!"
"Y/n-"
"What could you possibly have to say to me that matters?!" You almost scream it at him. You're trembling with the pain and anger that burns through you.
It's killing him to see you like this. He had prayed that you'd move on without him and find someone to love you the way you deserve to be loved. But he never stopped loving you either. More than anything, he wants to wrap you in his arms and hold you close to him again.
"Y/n, please-"
"Please what? Please sit around and pine for you while you marry another woman? Please forget I ever loved you? Please ignore the pain of the last five years without you?"
He stands there speechless. Then, he speaks as quietly as he can in the rain.
"Please forgive me. I never wanted to hurt you." You sob openly and put your head in your hands. He looks down to try to keep himself from crying too.
"Why does it matter to you?" You say from behind your hands. He looks back at you, hoping you won't notice his tears in the rain.
"It just does."
"That's not good enough. Tell me why you care whether I forgive you or not. You're happily married. I am nothing to you."
That almost breaks him. It couldn't be further from the truth. You are everything to him, but he can't tell you. He stands there staring at you. "Just leave me alone, Elvis. Go back-"
"Do you think I wouldn't rather feel this way about my wife?!" He yells loudly. This catches you off guard and you look up at him confused as he takes a couple of steps towards you. "She's my wife! She's the mother of my child! But she doesn't make me feel like this, like I can't breathe without her. Like seeing her in pain makes me want to move the stars to fix it. Don't you think it would be easier for me if I could love her the way I love you?!"
You stand there facing each other, chests rising and falling, hearts beating wildly, rain falling on both of you.
"You love me."
"God, y/n, of course I love you!"
There's a beat of silence and then in half a second, you're wrapped around each other with your mouths pressed together, open and moving passionately. You pull on him desperately and he holds you so tightly that you'd think you were trying to melt into one another right there in the parking lot. Your heart is pounding and his head is spinning with the release of pent up energy between you. He kisses down your neck hungrily and you whisper to him.
"What car do you have here?"
"The Mercedes limousine." Without another thought, you jump and he catches you with your legs around his waist. He carries you towards the car and you kiss him madly. A few seconds later, he pulls back and hollers to the driver while you kiss down his neck.
"Keys, man!" The driver's mouth pops open, but he tosses Elvis the keys. When you get to the car, he sets you down and presses you against the door with his body as he fumbles with the lock. You feel his erection pressing against you and moan softly. When he hears you, he abandons his task momentarily to kiss you and roll his hips against yours. Then, he goes back to the keys and finally gets the door unlocked.
You tumble into the backseat together, shedding sopping wet clothes and shoes. He kisses your shoulders and your chest and rips your bra off, tossing it across the car. His hand immediately goes to one nipple, his mouth to the other. You push his dripping wet hair off of his forehead and revel in the feeling of his hot mouth on you. He drags his tongue up from your chest to your neck and then moves back to your mouth, fiercely attacking your lips with his own. Your hands tremble as you get his belt off and undo his pants, so he helps you and pulls them off. Then, he yanks your panties off with one hand and lays you down on the seat.
He teases your clit with the tip of his cock for just a second before he pushes into you deeply, filling you fully. You moan loudly and he grunts and begins to fuck into you at a steady pace. As his hips slam into yours over and over, the rainwater that coated your skin turns to sweat and the car fills up with the steamy smell of sex. He thrusts harder and harder into you and it feels like you might die from the intense pleasure running through you. The way he pounds you elicits small cries from you and guttural groans from him and you know that anyone passing by could see and hear and know exactly what's happening.
There are no words between you, just feelings and primal sounds and the constant slapping of your wet skin against each other's. You feel him begin to tense up just as your walls flutter and both of you fall over a cliff into your release at the same time. The high washes over you and it's mixed with something so much more. You whimper as he pumps weakly a few more times and then relaxes on your chest.
You both try to catch your breath and soak in the shared afterglow of what just happened. Your hands make their way to his hair and you gently massage his scalp. He closes his eyes and enjoys the small gesture of affection, a warm feeling of contentment settling inside him. You feel like yourself for the first time in 5 years and bask in the peace of his head on your chest. Neither of you wants to move and risk bringing reality back into focus. You lay there like this for a long while, just holding each other.
"I don't want this to end." He whispers. You look up to try to keep your tears in your eyes.
"They're going to come looking for us eventually."
"I know. And I can't put my wife in this car. Not now." He sits up and pulls you into his arms and then brings your hand to his mouth, kissing your fingertips gently.
"What are you gonna do?"
"I'll send the driver to get a different car and make up some excuse for it."
"Smart." You both start to gather your clothes and get dressed. He hands your panties to you and has a thought.
"Oh, honey, I'm sorry; I got carried away and didn't use my mouth. I'll get you next time, I promise."
"Next time?" He realizes what he's said and looks into your eyes.
"Yes." He grabs your chin and pulls your lips to his. Then, he presses his forehead against yours and whispers.
"You know I would've married you if I could've." You nod as a tear slides down your cheek. He pulls back and wipes it away with his thumb. "No more tears, honey. I'm not leaving you this time. Never again."
"What about-"
"Let me worry about that."
He holds your face in his hands. And then he sings.
"Wait for me, wait for me.
I'll be coming home. Wait for me."
******

Staying alive for centuries, if not millennia, and enduring trauma that spans for generations is bound to transform even saints into rats. Day-to-day life in the middle-ages was batshit dystopian (especially in Europe). I'm of the belief that older nations (think england, france, china, india) are far more rat-like and cynical than their much younger counterparts who have witnessed far less war, strife, prejudice and just aren't as burnt out as them (with some major exceptions). Mega bonus points if the youngins received some form of parental care, even if it's not perfect (like zee, australia, alfred).
I love how you emphasize that "Arthur is not a good man". But in his defense, I think none of the oldies are good men. There are personifications that predate Arthur by many millennia (e.g. India, China). To them, Arthur looks like a teenager. They lost power to a pasty little rat completely drunk on power, and so a part of them knows their colonization wouldn't last, so they endure it with an air of haughty annoyance and impatience, I'd like to think. They're still working against Arthur, but there's no seething rage as one might expect. They master the stiff upper lip far, far better than Arthur. Which I imagine makes him envious. I know you don't talk about India or China, but I think their personal interactions with Arthur would be extremely fascinating, be it in the 19th century or present-day. sorry for the long rant, luv your blog
👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆
(I am so sorry i took a millenia to answer this but i always wnated to give a structured and thought out oppinion but never had the time in the last few months to sit down and think.
Having said that Im gonna answer as many older asks as i possibly can. Im sorry once again and your mind is a palace decorated with interesting and fascinating ideas)
So many have come before him. Too many died not having been recorded by the watchfull eye of history.
Arthur is not the oldest of the oldies. He is young compared to someone like China or Syria.
To start off with i think China is the most interesting Helltalia character there is. Just the years and cultures and dynasties and changing political systems and rise to power and fall and rise and again and again. The splitting and putting back together the regions. The innovation and influence. Ahvdnajxbnzksbx
So much creative liberty there and so much to learn and look into.
None of these nations, old or young are good or bad. They also are. In a way that a sparrow is bad for crop growth and good for locust population control.
"Arthur is not a good man" is not a general idea. They are Arthurs own words, about himself. He does not believe himself to be a good man. But then again, there are few nations who think of themselves as 'good' or 'righteous'. Years come and years pass. Now multiply that by a few thousant times. Good decisions lead to bad concequences and bad decisions lead to good ones. Good ideas are good until there are better ones pointing out the horrors of the past ideas. If you try to protect yourself and your family and damn another are you a bad person? Or are you a bad person if you damn your own family to save others? 'Good' is different for every nation. It just so happens that Arthur does not consider who he is to be righteous or benevolent. He has made decisions that damned his own soldiers for the sake of his own blood, his children. But he has sacrificed the lives of his progenies to advance himself and his empire. Its not the fact that he sacrificed his children or soldiers that he thinks make him bad, but he believes his hypocracy to be the thing that makes him "not a good man".
I think the older countries like China, Syria, ancient Rome and Egypt, Norte-Chico, Aksum (etc etc) didnt have what younger nations today got. At least not as frequently and directly. Alfred got a father willing to burn down villages and string up reverends to make sure his son didnt see the hangmans knot ever again. His brother and sister and their weird and tall french brother got to live a life as vomfotable as possible for them at that particular time growing up. They didnt see the world change. They were born into it already having shifted. That goes for other younger nationfolk. Some had harder lives than others but the world was connected and integrated to a certain degree when they were born. Loneliness is the main topic of the ancient nation personifications. If you asked a human in a town or village a few thousand years ago what the characteristics of his nation was he would respond with loneliness and reclusivity. So few knew eachother and fewer interacted regularly. A nation born is a nation doomed or abandoned by their parent nation if they had one. If by death or otherwise.
So what i think really set appart the oldies from the noobs are the inreactions they have with eachother. Old nations have learned and expect the sort of "stiff upper lip" you mentioned more than newer nations. If thats even possible. They grew up lonely, and and to a certain degree every nation is lonely, but the ancient world saw too much. So they stay even more lonely.
As ive mentioned, China is such an interesting character to me. He is very smart and he has lived through double the shit these old Europeans have. The oppium wars is something i studied recently and i kept thinking of how Yao would see all of this: "the gall of that young man to come to my shores and demand to do proper business while pointing a loaded gun to my head".
And after a few more decades he sees this European powerhouse get knocked down by none other than the mans very own bastard boy. As a human man, Yao finds comfort and amusment in that. The irony is rich and plentiful. The revenge tastes sweet.
But as a nation, that is extremly scary. The higherarchy is changing, so that means he has to change. And if he has to change that means old wounds will be reopen and new ones will take their place beside the old ones. And he does change. He adapts and tries to understand. Lots of new wounds are reddening his clothes. Lots of new wounds are reddening the clothes of others. In that change, there is loneliness. He keeps it to himself. Saving face is what he knows how to do. Just as most nations do.
Yao has long ago decided to drop the words good/bad from his personal lexicon. The concept of good is noble but not advantageous when it comes to their kind. Nations are purely bad in some situations, yet they are entirely good in others.
Anyyywayyyyy, im rambling too much at this point. I might do more hcs on China, but i think i should stop here for now. This isnt coherent or logical so lemme stop myself from further embarassment lol

harrow is an incredible character. no not because he's perfect. it's because he's not!!!!
the way that he managed to be an amazing father and have a deeply flawed character in such unison should be a gold standard for writing. he's not "too pure to be a ruler" or whatever; no goofy joke he makes will make up for the fact that he killed avizandum. that he took down the monarch of xadia, a mate and a father, when he hadn't posed as an active threat for years--or ever, really. plus he fully committed to killing zym.
"he had a good reason" did he really? like bro there are a lot of fucking dragons in xadia in the long run killing one won't do shit. he may have made the decision with an angsty smolder but it was still a stupid, impulsive one. and as for the former act, yes, thunder thighs killed sarai (and everyone's favorite lesbians :(), he orphaned three precious innocent babies without a care in the world. avizandum was a ruthless, ignorant motherfucker, on that much i agree (which leads to the discussion of how the humans are humans but xadians are just as prejudiced and pretentious but that's a worship post for another day.) and no, i won't sit here and say that in harrow's position i would be perfectly fucking civil (ronan lynch ref go brr), i'm just stating the facts. ok my interpretation of the facts. tldr he did a shitty thing, but were his intentions good? no. was his heart in the right place? nada. was his hateful homicidal mindset fueled by a reasonable inciting incident? yes yes it was!
(also worthy to mention how much his rule benefited from dark magic. he ultimately made the noble decision to deny it but yk. still)
now believe you me, i recognize that a character who is seemingly perfect turning out to have a dark past isn't exactly revolutionary. but the artistry is in the execution + closure.
from a trope perspective, it really isn't a dark "past." this barbarity occurred literal months before the start of the series, where we see father of the year himself. i just feel that in other shows, the grotesque details of his crimes would use the characters, or at least the framing of the story, to imply that it's so shocking that he would do such a thing and o woe i'll never look at him the same, but it doesn't. which is really what makes his death so impactful.
he's not just a wholesome dad type who is this innocent pure-hearted king. the narrative isn't that his death is such a colossal tragedy cause he was just such a good guy. he's emotional, profound, and righteous, and all of it ends up being a double edged sword!!! because that's how human traits work!!! the narrative doesn't do anything to frame him in any way, it just presents him in full truth. and lo and behold, i don't think there's a single viewer who thinks he is terrible person.
the beauty in his story is that he warranted his own death, and he was willing to acknowledge and accept it more than anyone. he subjected himself to the consequences of his own actions, and the people he influenced most are the ones who see that.
ezran says it all himself: his father, ultimately, was a great king, and an incredible person. but he is strong enough to point out harrow's weaknesses and commit to learning from them.
harrow isn't this shining example of everything a king should be. his death isn't just this unfortunate, harrowing (haa.ha.ahaha) circumstance used to dump a truckload of character-building trauma onto our mcs. it's the first step in the entire journey of the mf show. change. it's the moment where ezran, through all his grief, sees exactly where his path needs to lead to.
harrow fucked up, he knows this, and that's all she wrote. he meant just as much in death as in life, and if that isn't friggin beautiful then i don't know what is.
aagagghh. WRITING ⬆️⬆️⬆️!!!!!!

Yandere Cetrion x Reader
A/N: Two stories in a single week? Don't say I don't ever treat y’all. Since I've written for Kronika and Shinnok I figured I should include her as well. Also her Tower ending… It intrigues me. It gives me ideas about a few stories is all I'll say.
TW: Platonic yandere, violence, stalking, unhealthy power dynamics, MK11 Tower ending spoilers, honestly this is pretty tame.
Out of her family she's the most likely to fall for a mortal. Cetrion genuinely cares about mortals despite her loyalty to her mother’s wishes. This is demonstrated in her Tower ending, where initially upon getting The Hourglass she creates a paradise of sorts. I imagine that in Heaven the Elder Gods are quite bored, not having much to do as their interference with the realms is limited. And Heaven isn't exactly getting invaded or falling apart anytime soon. So, I imagine they watch the happenings in the realms like it's a livestream.
This is how Cetrion ends up discovering you, just one day while she's watching Earthrealm. Though the Gods are meant to be unbiased in their decisions, she would be lying if she said Earthrealm wasn't her favorite. Out of all the realms it's the one that's come closest to embodying virtue. What places her attention on you would be any act of good. Whether that's volunteering at a soup kitchen or an animal shelter -as long as you're helping those less fortunate you'll catch her eye.
When you do catch her eye it's hard for Cetrion to pull her attention away from you. It's as though she senses some potential in you, but can't quite place her finger on what. It isn't love at first sight, but she is intrigued with you immediately after that incident. From that point on you'll have divine eyes watching you, observing every single action and word you say without rest…
So, you better be on your best behavior! It seems like Earthrealm (for the most part) follows our history so you may not even know about the existence of Elder Gods. Even so, the burning sensation of being watched everywhere you go is too intense to be imagined. You'll likely become paranoid in public/private but not know the reason why.
Hopefully, upon getting that sensation you decide to continue being a good person. Cetrion is pleased to see such saintly behavior from you. You help others without expecting a reward and always treat others with compassion. It warms her heart to see you try to improve the world you're in even just a little.
Cetrion is also the quickest to pine for you out of her family. She falls into limerence in about a few months. That time might as well be seconds to her. Likely, you're not even the first human who she’s obsessed over. But, you're the first one where she'll actually be able to act on her feelings.
Cetrion was originally going to just hope that your soul would ascend to Heaven after your death. Maybe she would even attempt to coax you into living a righteous life, assuming she could get away with contacting you past the other Elder Gods. But with Shinnok's decapitation and Kronika wanting to reset the timeline again, things go in Cetrion's favor more than it has for the past resets. She ends up rebelling against Kronika and successfully becoming the Keeper of Time. With her and the Elder Gods out of the way, well, what's stopping her from getting to know you a bit? But first, she must make a better world for all mortals. It's her duty as the Goddess of Virtue after all.
You don't meet Cetrion until after she reshapes the timeline. She crafts your fate to be one by her side -an emissary of the Life Goddess herself. As she watches you be born into a loving family, she can't help but smile as she thinks about what your future holds.
I believe Cetrion in a way just wants a happy family -especially after observing mortals for so long. I believe that's why she follows Kronika even if a part of her really believes her mother’s wishes are utter garbage. If she lives up to Kronika's expectations then maybe she'll get love for once. At least with her gone, she's fully accepted mortals as her family.
Annnnnd that's where the good times end. While you were a relatively kind person in the previous timelines, something about having a life free of adversaries seems to change you. You grow up to become a sinful person. You overindulge yourself in food, liquor, and gambling. You constantly partake in illegal substances and attempt to get others as addicted as you are. You even show absolutely no compassion to your fellow man -taunting and bullying anyone who dared to deviate from your worldview. You're all around a bad person, and it becomes even worse when you get the wise idea of joining a mercenary gang to fight in Outworld.
Cetrion stops that timeline before you get too out of control. She generously decides that maybe your behavior was just a fluke. You reincarnate into a similar life as before, but still you fall into being a vile pest. Annoyed at this she once again restarts the timeline, but this time she puts you in a not as noble but still caring family.
Nope. You're still evil. And not only just you, but it seems like other mortals are getting worse each time she resets despite her making a paradise. She's become quite disillusioned at this point, frustrated at how doing the right thing is leading to despicably immoral creations. She thinks that maybe mortals do constantly need that push of an adversary. To always need one foot on their neck to appreciate her gifts.
As Cetrion reshapes the realms to something more… Hellish, she's still willing to give you one last chance. Maybe your corruption was simply from being around all these impure mortals. If you were closer to your goddess, right with her in the Heavens then perhaps the taint of sin will leave you. You'll be pure again. She'll cleanse you of filth no matter the means she must resort to.
So Cetrion once again resets time, this time with you being blessed to be her one and only true child. You literally carry a part of her divine essence now, so there is NO excuse for your actions now. She truly hopes that you'll be good this time, but if not she'll punish you like a parent must with an unruly child. As you grow up you find yourself constantly being observed and scrutinized. You don't know it though -she wants to see your true nature unfold. To see who you really are without the influence of your surroundings.
And once again. Once again you disappoint her. And you do so in the most hurtful of ways. You rebel against her, siding with the mortals and citing how cruel her treatment of them is. How evil she is to allow them to face the consequences of their actions. “My sweet, pure (Y/N).” She says, as you point your weapon at her. “I see that you've become just as tainted as those in the realms below. No matter, I will strike you down where you stand.” She lifts a hand towards you, charging up a powerful beam.
You get destroyed in the battle, laying in the ground of the celestial plane on the precipice of death. As she approaches your limp form you expect her to deliver the killing blow. But instead, she picks you up ever so gently. You're surprised at her tenderness and the genuine smile you see on your mother's face. Then you feel your body lurch downwards as you descend into the depths of the Netherrealm. You faint just before you recognize your new location though, too sapped of strength to stay conscious.
Little did you know, but the Netherrealm was about to become your new home for eons. Cetrion made sure of it, trapping you there with a seal only she could remove. If you wanted to be corrupt you could stay where all of the other wicked souls went. But unlike others, you wouldn't be free to wander in agony. She needs someone to thoroughly ingrain in your mind never to go against family. And perhaps, with enough time, you'd finally be cleansed of mortal sins to join her in the heavens again.
But for now, you'll be paying “Uncle” Shinnok and “Big Brother” Raiden a little visit.

15 Lines of Dialogue - Theresa Trevelyan
Thanks for the tag @theluckywizard! Tagging @inquisimer, @demawrites, and @varric-tethras-editor.
Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
Theresa can be a tough nut to crack for people. She's very guarded at first, and is plagued by resting bitch face and a piercing stare, so comes off as aloof or cold to most. But beneath that, she's passionate, righteous, generous, and protective. She's a mage who hated the captivity of the Circles, and is determined to use her power as Inquisitor to put an end to them once and for all. To create a future where mages are free, and without fear. She will always throw herself head-first into the fray, whether it's on the battlefield or at the Orlesian Court. Her greatest fear is losing who she is to this legend being made of her.
“Storms do not discriminate, Alexius,” I answered. “You would have done well to remember that when you agreed to unleash one upon Thedas in the service of a would-be god.”
“I do not traipse, Commander.”
“Should I expect such gossip to start taking up room on our agenda with regularity? Because if so, I shall have to make accommodations to allow for the extra time.”
"I can’t recall the last time I was allowed to just… be. Maybe I never was. I don’t think I even know how."
“I don’t have the right temperament for healing.”
“I have no idea what [Solas is] capable of anymore. I was a fool to believe I ever knew him. He hides his true face too well. We have that in common.” ... “I thought I could use that to protect myself from him. I warded my corner of the Fade using memories of us. Hoping the guilt would keep him away. It was the height of hubris. Something else we share.”
"Stop trying to mythologise it. There’s no grand purpose in this. No rhyme or reason. My pain is not simply a means to an end. It happened. To me. It's not divine. In fact, it's perfectly banal. His hatred… your faith… the fanatics who idolise me… it all comes from the same place.”
“I know I don’t really have a say in how the Inquisition moves forward, but I want to make it absolutely clear now that I will not participate in anything I find objectionable. And I won’t allow you to ignore me anymore. You don’t have to listen to my opinions, but you will at least hear them.”
“Safe?” I laughed at the absurdity. “We were never safe in the Circles. You’re forgetting I was raised in one. I could tell you stories of Templars that would make your blood run cold!”
“You took everything from me!” I screamed at them. “My life! My dignity! My home! I can’t love because of you! I can’t trust because of you! I have nothing left! It’s not fair! I hate you! I hate you! I wish I could have killed the lot of you! I wish I had caused the explosion! Then at least I would have had my revenge!”
“Yes, I am quite the rebellious bookworm,” I announced with all the weight of an oath of honor. “My reach is great. Fear my power.”
“Corypheus tore open the Veil in the name of faith. Templars slaughtered mages because faith drove them to fear us rather than protect us. I am not asking you to follow me out of faith. I’m not ‘chosen’. I have chosen. Chosen to stand between the flame and the world it seeks to consume. The Inquisition will - and must - fight for all of us. With all the power granted to me, and only for as long as you see fit that I should keep it, I give my word that I will be the shield that protects those most in need of it. And I vow to place my faith in all of you, who have helped uplift me. I will never cease working to be worthy of this honor.”
“We have been many things to each other. We’ve pushed and pulled each other, reshaped each other in ways I’m still discovering. Falling in love with you was like gravity. It was never an overt decision, it simply happened. But for love to last, it can’t be an excuse. Love is… a verb. A deliberate and conscious choice. And so I choose to love you. And I will choose it, over and over, because we have shaped a beautiful home in each other. You are the home I choose, Cullen.”
“Well, in that case, welcome to the Inquisition. I hear we’re a dour lot. Perhaps you can help liven things up.”
“I haven’t yielded yet,” she fires back. “Which means I haven’t lost.”

You get to know people. You learn their tics. What it means when they scratch their nose three times or tap door jambs. How their voice ascends when they’re lying and deepens when hunger strikes.
So when Sandie stares me dead in the eyes, a vulture surveying a gourmet opossum à la asphalt, I know why. I know what she wants to hear.
“I am an independent, self-sufficient woman with goals and aspirations, and I cannot be tugged about on the whim of some mouth-breathing Neanderthal with nothing to offer but eventual disappointment, heartache, and services more deftly rendered by a magic wand.
“So never ever under any circumstance would I uproot my fulfilling life—leaving behind loving friends, a cushy apartment, and an only sometimes hateable job—to move cities, unless it was a well-conceived-of next step in my journey of personal growth.”
Instead, it comes out more like:
“For Paul? No, no, no. I’m moving to Glendale for the… sun.”
She is unconvinced. The fact that we aren’t sixty year olds with bad hips and debilitating arthritis might have something to do with it.
“I mean, we’re not even married,” I say, leaving out the ‘yet’. Don’t want to jinx it.  “It would be ridiculous to make such a huge decision for a boyfriend.”
Yeah, so call me ridiculous. Or naive. Or maybe a massive fucking donkey. Probably they all apply, but what can I say? I’m in love.
That might be hard for Sandie to grapple with, staunch women’s secessionist as she is. Not that I fault her. Or disagree with her, really. We became friends for a reason. It just so happens that my values play second fiddle to my heart. Barf.
If I only had her resolve. As is:
“Honestly, it’s more like I’m the one dragging him along. I just really need a change of pace,” I say. Make it all about me. My choice, my move, my life.
Even though lately it’s been all about us. What we want. How we feel. We slowly morph into a single creature, drinking for one, eating for one, only happy when the other is, emotions hopelessly entangled.
“Uh-huh,” says Sandie. Her arms are crossed, one leg draped over the other. “And this new job of his has nothing to do with your sudden desire for change?”
I’m a little taken aback. I hadn’t told her about the new job—for good reason. So how did she—?
“He posted it to Facebook,” she says casually, reader of minds.
Fucking Facebook. What are you good for but keeping a running list of the relatives I will most definitely not be inviting to the wedding.
Well, I’m caught. Time to hang it up. Nothing to say now but—
“What are the chances, right?” I venture, tossing in a light chuckle. “Don’t you love it when things fall just so conveniently into place?”
I can hear my pores leaking.
Sandie doesn’t say anything, and with every passing second of silence, so slip the last few kernels of feminism through my fingers.
“Yes,” says Sandie. “Exceedingly convenient.”
A few minutes of idle chatter later and she stands. I stand too. She grasps my hands, wishes me well, kisses my cheeks. I walk her to the door and she waves to me from her car in the parking lot. All smiles.
I can already see her ripping me to shreds in a new group chat, sans yours truly, and I grieve for all the future potlucks and bra-burnings I won’t be asked to attend.
Two hours later, Paul returns from his last shift at the Oppington office. He tells me about his day, the farewell sheet cake with the cream cheese frosting, how he’d never learned the receptionist’s name (“I call her Peggy; it’s our inside joke”), and I tell him about mine.
“You never really liked them, though, right?” he says. “I think you called them ‘uppity, self-righteous nags.’”
“Yeah,” I say. But they were my uppity, self-righteous nags. I don’t expect him to get it.
But to his credit, he does see how it’s upset me, and says, “D’ya wanna sit in the park and make up true crime stories about the people we see?”
Man that I love.
I beam.
“Yeah.”

💙 What Comes After Love
by Rainbow_Horizon
T, 17k, Wangxian
Summary: Lan Wangji loves Wei Wuxian and Wei Wuxian wholeheartedly reciprocates the same. This is an undeniable truth. But is love all they need in a relationship? Love can be a wonderful start to a lasting marriage, but can it survive on love alone? The story of how Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were made to sever and sunder after their marriage. Kay's comments: Ah, this story! Absolutely devastating in the best way possible, ripped by heart to pieces and then lovingly put the pieces together again. In my heart Wangxian live happily ever after, of course, but I do love stories that look at what could go wrong despite them getting together, especially in combination with the living situation in the Cloud Recesses and the CQL-element of Lan Wangji being the Chief Cultivator. This story mixes the novel and the canon of the show and takes a look at how Wangxian are faring post-canon and how their relationship slowly falls apart because Lan Wangji's duties as Chief Cultivator take their toll and Lan Qiren is also trying to marry him off to a lady from the Meishan Yu Sect. In the end, Wei Wuxian leaves quietly one day, while Lan Wangji is on a night-hunt with the Meishan Yu cultivator, and starts living for himself, healing himself and growing and Lan Wangji too grows in their time apart and realizes what's truly important, but of course, in the end, they find their way back to each other. Just, a wonderful story all-in-all. Excerpt: Yu Bingqing seems to be blind and deaf to Wei Wuxian’s predicament altogether or she was putting up an award winning performance. With an unfazed countenance and avoiding eye contact, she merely glanced towards his direction to say, “Wei Gong-zi, I have no interest in knowing particulars of your association with Hanguang-Jun, nor have I any intention to seek a deeper understanding of the nature of your connection with a noble and righteous gentleman like him. I am not a person who needlessly burdens myself with meager details such as someone’s previous associations. What concerns me the most is someone’s future associations after I made a decision to make an alliance with that person for mutual benefit. As you are very well aware, your reputation in the cultivation world is not a one that is favourable for any reputable person or a sect to be associated with. The longer you stay here at the Cloud Recesses, the greater the chances are for you to jeopardise Hanguang-Jun’s credibility as the new Chief Cultivator. Contrarily, if I decided to stay by him with the esteemed Meishan Yu sect behind him, sky is the limit for his success in the cultivation world.” Listening to this woman conceitedly shooting her mouth off and challenging his standing as Lan Zhan’s cultivation partner, Wei Wuxian suddenly felt nauseated and the distaste in his mouth made him want to puke. But, he did not want to make things unpleasant at the get go of this conversation. With an infernal smirk that he could not help wiping off of his his handsome face he replied, “Please let me get this straight Maiden Yu. What you are saying is that you do not recognize any relationship between Lan Zhan and myself, and you also dare to propose that I should distance myself from him so that you can go forward with your one sided plan. Did I hear you correctly? Or am I just hearing some implausible musing of a blatantly ambitious person?”
pov wei wuxian, pov lan wangji, established relationship, post-canon, mixed-canon, chief cultivator lan wangji, breaking up & making up, insecurity, sad wei wuxian, jealous wei wuxian, separations, healing, married lan wangji/wei wuxian, lan wangji/wei wuxian get a happy ending, arranged marriage, lan family feels, bad uncle lan qiren, good sibling lan xichen, angst with a happy ending, implied/referenced homophobia

2x20, What Is and What Should Never Be
Critical theory: Duty, self sacrifice, and the rehearsal of (what I am choosing to call) ‘righteous suicide’.
Discussion question(s): (This is our lead in to the season finale and they have stopped circling around the issue now. So;) How is the season going to end, guys?
Key quotes: Dean, talking to John's grave, “"So go hunt the Djinn. He put you here, it can put you back. Your happiness for all those people's lives, no contest. Right?" But why? Why is it my job to save these people? Why do I have to be some kind of hero?”; Djinn!Sam, “Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?”; Dean, Sam, “I mean, ever since Dad... all I c– all I can think about is how much this job's cost us. We've lost so much. We've... sacrificed so much.”, “But people are alive because of you. It's worth it, Dean. It is. It's not fair, and... you know, it hurts like hell, but... it's worth it.”
Discussion: The thing that hurts the most is that even in this dream/fantasy world… they are all better off without him. Dean still doesn’t feel that he has worth… His worth is the job. Him and Sam don’t get on, there’s distance between him and Mary (does she pity him?), and he was happy about it, but he still feels worthless.
Another ‘stuck’ feeling episode, especially after folsom
Kai is realising how much they nailed it when I originally asked them about the themes and motifs (and they really did).
Re: How is the season going to end? Dean dies (Iga). Dean sacrifices himself (Kai). Dean kills himself, probably for Sam (Iga). Or for some random person, because that’s just who he is (Kai). It’s in vain—maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t—but it’s in vain (Iga).
If Dean doesn't keep saving people, John’s life (and death) would have been in vain. He is so, so tired of it, and no one gives him any credit, and thanks. They’re just like. That’s Dean just doing what Dean does.
Dean makes that difficult decision—his happiness is not worth as much as the lives he’s saved*—and Sam’s response is. Yeah, your happiness is not worth as much as the lives you’ve saved.
*As much as it pains me I do understand this, as the lives he’s saved is easily in the thousands—but he doesn’t need to hear that right now.
Notes: I cried 4 times in this episode and one of those was in the ‘previously’ lol. “She's happy because she's a good mum. And her entire personality is being a good mum.” (Iga)(We'll circle back)

May I preemptively request a part 4 to the examination of Ben and Abigail's relationship in which they are compared to Patrick and Emily's relationship?
Tumblr media
Should Abigail Leave Ben? Part 4: Adrenaline and Tequila
@emmi-kat, you may! And thank you so much for the question.
In Part 1 and Part 2, I argued that National Treasure devoted significant screen time within the setup of the heist to also set up Ben and Abigail as a compatible romantic pairing, and that it was critical that they do this before Abigail joins the treasure hunt, otherwise their relationship would seem like a knee-jerk reaction to going through the trauma of the plot together, and not much more than that.
In Part 3, we discussed how National Treasure: Book of Secrets swings around and insists that their reaction actually is only a knee-jerk reaction to almost dying on treasure hunts together, and no matter how badly Ben behaves, Abigail will take him back after a near death experience. Yippy-do.
As I’ve ranted about/alluded to, I don’t think BoS is an effective sequel to the first movie, especially on a character front. However, if we are examining Ben and Abigail’s relationship in that movie, you’re are absolutely right, we would be remiss to not compare their relationship to that of Ben’s parents.
As I explored here, the first movie seems to imply that Ben’s mother is dead, but Book of Secrets makes two key character decisions that drive most of the drama in the story:
Ben’s mom is fine, they’re just bitter exes
Ben and Abigail are separated because Ben is being a self righteous prick
Presto! Now we’ve go a movie’s worth of character drama, and two dysfunctional romances to deal with!
Do I think these were the best decisions to go with? Did this create the sequel I wanted to see? Not really.
But this is what we’ve got, so let’s go with it.
Patrick
The way Patrick frames his relationship with Ben’s mother in the first movie makes it sound like she was the one true love of his life.
We see this in the way he talks about her directly.
PATRICK At least I had your mother, for however brief a time.
He says this while listing the fundamental needs and joys of life that he has, and Ben doesn’t. He draws a contrast to what he had—Ben and his mother—to what Ben has now.
Patrick’s one-true-love perspective on his wife is also implied in the lessons he’s passed on to Ben about romance.
BEN Well, my father thinks I've been a little too cavalier in my personal life. … Have you ever told someone - not a relative - "I love you"? … More than one someone? … Well, then my father would say you've been a little too cavalier in your personal life, too.
This exchange paints a pretty clear picture that Ben’s mother was the one and only love of Patrick’s life. It implies that he only said “I love you” to one person, and that anything else would be irresponsible and rash.
Emily
Dr. Emily Appleton tells a very different story.
EMILY That was not love. That was excitement, adrenaline and tequila. … I was trying to get course credit.
From her perspective, not only was Patrick not the one true love of her life, they weren’t in love at all. He was the professor, instructor, or TA that she had a fling with for during an alcohol-and-adrenaline fueled treasure hunt.
It’s unclear from the dialogue if this treasure hunt for course credit was the same as the Marrakesh toothbrush-travel case-luggage incident, or if they were two separate hunts. In either case, Emily’s version doesn’t make it sound like they were together for that long. In fact, it sounds like she got pregnant pretty early in their relationship and so they tried to make it work.
EMILY No, you did it because you wanted to, and I would've done the same thing, except one of us had to grow up and stay home and look after Ben. Certainly wasn't going to be you.
This strikes me as fairly bold for an early-aughts Disney flick? But maybe I’m just getting old. Emily got knocked up during a treasure hunting fling, and that diverted her from whatever fieldwork it seems like she was doing and kept her out of the treasure hunting game. That’s a pretty tragic backstory, actually. I’d be pissed at Patrick too. It worked out for her eventually, since she’s a tenured professor now, but still.
Again, I personally chalk these difference up not to character, but to craft. Emily didn’t exist in the first movie, so Patrick’s relationship with her was painted very differently. One she becomes a character, the “one true love” thing doesn’t work anymore because now we need a reason why she wasn’t in the first movie, and Patrick was taking about her like he’d never see her again. The first movie paints Patrick as the romantic conservative and Ben as a someone who goes through relationships too fast.
But if my mission here is to treat BoS as an equally true piece of the story (which yes, I am aware I am failing at repeatedly), then we’re faced with an interesting complication: Patrick’s whole “cavalier in one’s personal life” philosophy is true, but also wildly misleading.
Tumblr media
Contradictions
While Patrick never actually says explicitly that he loves Emily in the course of the films, it’s implied from his behavior (and the way he’s still trying to win her back three or four decades later) that she’s the one he said it to. So by the definition of “only say ‘I love you’ to one person” or “only fall in love with one person” Patrick Gates is the epitome of romance.
But he’s also wildly cavalier with his relationship by any other definition. Emily might be the only love of his life, but he woo’d her, knocked her up, and left her home with their kid while he kept treasure hunting. That is not the epitome of romance.
It also makes a lot of sense, because their relationship had no ground to stand on. Emily spells out explicitly that, at least from her point of view, they weren’t in love, and they weren’t really in a long term relationship. They were in a fling that got complicated.
They got together in the heat of the moment while on a treasure hunt, and once they returned to their normal lives, their relationship fell apart because it never really was one. It was exactly what Emily said: “excitement, adrenaline and tequila.”
Consequences
In other words, they have the exact relationship that (at least I think) the first National Treasure does not want Ben and Abigail to have, and that the sequel very much thinks they do have. Ben is repeating the exact mistakes of his father, falling for a girl he wows with a treasure hunt and then not wanting to listen to her or take her feelings and desires into account once things calm down.
And at the end of BoS, both couples are making the same new/old mistake: the Gates boys are both getting back together with their treasure hunt sweethearts without making any real progress on the issues that drove them apart in the first place. (Well, maybe Patrick has changed, because it has been 40 year. Ben, not so much.) And Emily and Abigail are getting sucked back in by the adrenaline, excitement, and near-death experiences. No tequila necessary!
Gah!
And this is the reason I find Book of Secrets so fundamentally depressing. Nobody changed. Neither of the Gates men addressed the flaws that were ruining their relationships, and everybody decided to get back on the merry-go-round as if it’s a good happy ending.
This is also the reason why I quietly push BoS into a little box and bury it in the garden when I consider Ben and Abigail’s relationship.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
So there you have it.
Alternate subtitles for this issue were “Sins of the Father” and “Generational Trauma.”
Perhaps we’ll dig in to why Ben and Patrick are like this another time. But for now, I’m tired and I want my blorbos back.
What do you think? Why are Ben and Patrick terrible? Why do two very smart Ph.ds put up with them?
Thanks for your question! Feel free to send another any time.

✨ OC Tag Game ✨
I was tagged by @greypetrel to roast my OCs make Sophie's Choice kind of decisions but these are some fun decisions 👌 thank you so much dear!! Also I'm stealing the magenta and purple color scheme because I'm obsessed lol
I'm tagging here so y'all can avoid this monsterpost and go straight to the tag game lol @underneathestars @sparatus @daggerbean @bruxbea @n7viper @transprincecaspian @that-one-halfwit and those whose name starts with J.
I had to dig deep in my personal can of worms so grab a drink, a bunch of popcorns and a new pair of eyes because this is going to be one of the longest posts I've ever made. I'm not joking, I'm apologizing :'D
Favourite OC:
Tumblr media
Ankh/Lav. I played favorites since I created this space and I have no problem exposing my horrible self lol She's the perfect person for me, always challenging herself without being afraid of failure. Even if she has some terrible flaws, she does her best to process them in a mature way. Writing her helped me a lot coming to terms with some things in my personality that I despised :'D she pesters influences the two realms of being, basically. Also she's gorgeous, isn't she? *pinches cheeks* bella de mamma 💛
Newest OC:
Tumblr media
HER. The icon, the legend, the witch of the needle. Adra, trans-woman, city elf, much bitch, such stylist. She calls people by titles she invents on the spot based off their personality (which is a thing that cannot be transferred into the english language since titles aren't a thing ;; sigh), she's one that states what's wrong with you right in your face, and she's constantly in pain because of her job - one day is her back, the other it's the eyes, but somehow humidity is always involved. She calls herself old but she's not that old, like, she's in her 60s << anyway, she takes advantage of it a lot for her own entertainment. Coming from the Denerim alienage for then moving to Highever, she has had all the experiences one can think of so she appears a bit skeptical when it comes to big scale projects born from righteous ideals. However she seems to believe in the Inquisition. Well, she trusts its leader and her work, but she's a fereldan through and through so she's leaning more on a "I'm gonna judge the overalls when I see the results" attitude. So far, she's satisfied, but she'll never express it. Queen Anora #1 fangirl.
Oldest OC:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rhian, daughter of Beathan ...who at the beginning was a Lord of the Rings OC but then she turned into something I'm using for a personal project with a medieval fantasy setting, so now she's running free and untied from a beloved franchise :'D weee There is some bisexual awakening going on but it's actually a story about found family, gender roles, and honesty. I'll get back to it at some point. Hopefully. She's the Mulan of my roster, pretending to be a man to join the local army and having to deal with a big menace while questioning her faith on authority. She's very brave, caustically sarcastic, an average soldier, and has loud opinions that always put her in trouble. Also she's a capricorn, she can open jars and she will let you know until she dies.
Meanest OC:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lenore fucking Shepard WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED LMAO She's manipulative, controlling, outright nasty towards pyjaks, and would 100% push you towards the zombie horde as bait if that means she gets to save herself plus her squad. She does have a few reedeeming qualities but it's not even slightly enough to grant her a "maybe she's good on the inside" consolation prize. To be fair, she's the most emotional character of the bunch, super sensitive towards children and people that can't fight for themselves. The ones she likes, yeah, but still! Hands down my favorite store on the Citadel <3
Softest OC:
All of th--
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Absolutely him. Mr. Rivelli. Wiccan, chemistry genius, chainsmoker, incapable of interfacing himself emotionally with those surrounding him. He's quite the introvert, but he daydreams like a pro and he's very passionated about his interests. He can't look at people in the eye, but he's the most loving and communicative plant dad one could think of <3 He's a soft boy, he just has a lonely nature. He's part of a project called "The Wedding Planner", it's a boy meets boy story, both of the main characters are in their thirties and there's a "what am I doing with my life" type of approach to the plot. It's a 30 years old / mid life crisis type of story, basically, with a wedding. The wedding is important. Very. It makes it cheesy. We worship cheese in this household.
Most Aloof/Standoffish OC:
Tumblr media
Absolutely him, and it's a coping mechanism. Castor "Cass" Actius never shows emotions because he bottles all them up. And it's a long bottle - he's very tall. I was torn between soft and aloof in this case, but he's definitely one that acts like he's the calmest but in truth he's screaming internally all the time. Probably one of the characters I can relate to the most lol He's all legs and sugars, has a thing for tea, he's the fourth of four siblings and probably the most well adjusted out of them - which says a lot about the state of his family considering he's clinically depressed and an addict << He's a great leader, calm and detached, also he doesn't seem very approachable at first. At second as well, and at third, and at... But he's a cool person with big mom energy. If you're under his command, prepare to be scolded frequently, but also to be defended strenuosly in front of his superiors because you're perfect and you did nothing wrong, never in your life!! Best baker of the bunch, sorry Hawke.
Dumbest (affec-- lmao they wish!!) OC:
Tumblr media
These three. They all trusted the apostate. On a scale from Stupid to "I trampled on my feet and now the kitchen is on fire" however, Ela is definitely the one sitting on the ambulance with a blankie on her shoulders. Here, have a banner all for yourself, dumbelina <3
Tumblr media
Although I'm talking about that kind of stupidity that makes you look like a fool during situations that require a little bit of foresight or planning. She basically winged some of the most important decisions during the Blight, the others were taken because of her strong sense of honor and justice, but like You can't apply that all the time and then go surprised pikachu face when people call you out for being impulsive.
Smartest OC:
Tumblr media
Him. Hands down. Serge "Twinkles" R'lyeh. He's MacGyver with the sensitivity of Tori Amos, also he's your therapist and your sugar daddy at the same time. He's an aerospace engineer turned infiltrator turned spy turned college teacher turned practical fx specialist turned distinguished officer during the war turned loving husband and best uncle... Like, there's so much to him! He lived a tons of lifetimes at once because he's talented brilliant incredible amazing showsto-- Probably the second favorite, because he seems like he's perfect but he has a problem taking responsibilities. He's also very childish, egocentric, he second guesses you as if it was a competitive sport when it comes to things he can do better, and his mouth is the envy of every sailor from here to the Attican Traverse - because he swears a lot but also for the other reason *cough* I kinda loved having to deal with someone that was on top of many skills, it made so much room for planning a big downfall <3 oh, and he fell. Hard. I'm gonna stop but know that I would keep writing about him for other 30-40 paragraphs, gushing and blabbering incoherently because he's my special self absorbed space kitty, trust me on that. I'll just say that he built a working real life deluminator when he was a fluff. he smort
OC I'd probably be friends with:
None of them, they're terrible people with a lot of problems and I made them like that so if I had to meet them they'd ki--

It's them. Ankh and Kerry. Who else? I need the extrovert friend who ignores my rain checks and comes to my doorstep with a pile of books concerning the strangest topics, and the chill friend who can cook a brilliant pasta while he listens to me complaining about the post office. Also, they're the ones I'm the least afraid of. On a more serious note, they have a huge deal of compassion and care; he's an empath, she's an active listener. Also I vibe with creative people that show a huge passion for what they're doing, plus I wouldn't mind having to bury some animal bones from time to ti-- cook and bake. I like to roam around the kitchen with my friends and talk about whatever. We talk a lot in this household <<
This was a lot and I'm sorry but y'all read the introduction of this blog, the blorbos are my Jub-Jub Bouvier and I can't help myself :'DDD

Well no I guess I kinda can? answer the previous questions for Aylin? Or at least something tangentially related.
I've said before that you could consider Aylin to have been born with the Oath of Vengeance already sworn, and that holds true. However, I don't think she had to become a paladin or even had to swear that oath. She has an overarching goal / mission from her mother, yes, but it's her decision how she fulfills that. She could've gone for any class / any oath. Paladin and Oath of Vengeance were simply what she gravitated toward naturally.
Her role as the Sword of the Moonmaiden is beginning to wear on her, though. We see some indications of that in the game. I think, maybe a few years post-canon, she'll sit down and have a think about the path she's walking and whether it's one she should walk. So much has changed — she has changed.
I can actually see her undertaking a quest to find the Oathbreaker Knight, and that quest serving dual purpose as a journey of self-discovery. By the time she finally meets him, all the questions she sought to ask him have already been answered. The only question she still has is whether she can swear a new oath. She does not wish to be an Oathbreaker but neither does Oath of Vengeance suit her as it once did. She does not wish to foreswear violence entirely, but the bloodshed, the fury — no matter how righteous — begin to crush her.
Which is the point of that oath, arguably. "You have set aside even your own purity to right wrongs and deliver justice to those who have committed the most grievous sins." This paladin is the one saying they will bloody their own hands, darken their own heart, so that no one else has to. They will make the world brighter if they must take all the darkness upon themselves to do so. It's not really a righteous oath — or at least not unambiguously. Nevertheless, Aylin always felt righteous. She always felt she was making the right call and that she had the right to make that call; she never felt dimmed or tainted by her deeds. She was judge, jury, and executioner by divine right. (You see how this mentality can become an issue.)
So it's interesting to consider whether the Oathbreaker Knight can or will help her swear a new one. In the game, he just helps you reswear your original oath or guides you in becoming an Oathbreaker. But also in the game, you had to have broken your oath for him to appear; Aylin is intentionally seeking him out. So for argument's sake, let's say he can help her swear a new oath. Does he, though? Or does he force her to bear the burden of Vengeance as she swore she would? Does he leave her with Oathbreaker or choosing a new class entirely as the only alternatives? Is there some quest she must undertake before being allowed to swear a new oath? Personally I like the idea of her being tasked with enduring x time as an Oathbreaker as an allegory for facing her own trauma rather than outrun or ignore it.
As for what oath she'd change to, honestly? I think Oath of Redemption. It's almost the exact opposite of Vengeance, at least where the application of violence is concerned. There's also a greater emphasis on maintaining unwavering faith in people and their capacity for goodness as opposed to condemning people for their wrongs. "Paladins who dedicate themselves to this oath believe that any person can be redeemed and that the path of benevolence and justice is one that anyone can walk."
I also love it because I headcanon John Meadowlin was an Oath of Redemption paladin. Frankly, I don't think Aylin ever fully understood his oath. While she was never a cynic, I don't think she was someone who saw the goodness in everyone either. She felt some people just deserved to die; capacity for repentance was inconsequential. It wasn't until doing so became a matter of survival that her perspective began to shift. She's spent so long in darkness and despair that she has to find light and hope in every corner or she is lost.

can i talk abt the master from fallout 1? because i want to talk abt the master from fallout 1. he is genuinely, with my whole heart, my favorite antagonist in any piece of media ive ever consumed.
hes driven towards, in his mind, the most righteous goal of anyone in the wasteland: humanity will survive by any means necessary, even if they are all changed into something completely unhuman. even if many humans end up being killed in the process, hes trying to make sure people are suited to the world that they never shouldve had to live in. he wants humanity to not just survive, but be able to florish, even if that means that they are no longer human.
he is, of course, wrong. he sees a way to make humans stronger, but is ignorant to how strong and resilient humans already are. the only way to beat him is to deconstruct his entire worldview, make him look at and analyze every choice hes made, the effect those choices had on the people forced into those decisions HE made.
you force him to realize hes wrong, that humanity dies with his choices if he doesnt stop because none of the mutants hes creating will ever have a next generation. you make him understand that he never LISTENED, just pushed his ideology while he ignored the actual affects of what he was doing.
after you convince him that everything hes doing is wrong, make him listen to his own people, he says one of my favorite quotes from any villain ive ever heard:
"i dont think that i can continue... to have done the things that i have done. in the name of progress, of... healing. it was madness. madness, i can see that now. there is no hope. leave, leave now while you still have... hope."
and then he kills himself. because never once up to this point did he think of himself as anything but the hero. when he knows that hes the villain, when he realized that no matter what, the human genocide would end with a supermutant genocide as well and that all of this was for nothing, he kills the main boss for you.
he shows the player in that moment no, hes not a bad person. hes just a traumatized mutant who was doing everything he could to make society whole again. but he failed. and he will never succeed. and he knows he deserves to die for what hes done.
theres something so tangible about his sorrow that i havent been able to get out of my head for months. it makes me feel bad for him. he wanted to be right so badly, and in a way, after that final conversation, he made me wish he couldve been right too.

Has there ever been a situation where you've gotten mad enough at something to consider breaking the rules you set for yourself to deal with it in a way you think would be most cathartic? How do you deal with those thoughts/feelings?
this ended up getting pretty long so it goes under a cut ok
i actually get that mad pretty often. it's part of why i have my very strict rules that i set for myself, actually, as part of a way to curb my temper and an attempt to redirect my anger to something more productive than. just hurting whatever i'm mad at
i think the easiest way to explain how i've taught myself to navigate this is... i try to first identify what i'm actually angry about. it's very rarely whoever or whatever's in front of me, they're just what made the dam burst. forcing myself to sit down and figure out what i'm actually upset about is also a good way of grounding myself and keeping myself from acting on impulse as long as i can catch myself before i Do act on impulse (and since i've had a lot of practice at this now, i usually do!)
once i've figured out what i'm actually upset about, i do let myself sit in that feeling for a while. i don't think anger is an inherently destructive emotion and that it can create a lot of good too, as long as it's channeled properly, so i also try to figure out what i Can do with it. yelling and hurting someone is cathartic in the short run, yeah, but in the long run it's just going to. well. hurt people. and i have these rules for myself because i don't want to hurt people
it's hard to know how i'm going to respond in advance to something really severe, like the theoretical you're asking me about, but i try always very hard to stick to my philosophy of "justice without mercy is simply cruelty", which, drawn out fully, means like... trying to take into account why Things That Make Me Angry happen, and then responding accordingly.
like, say someone i thought was a good friend suddenly cuts me off with no warning whatsoever. obviously i'm going to be incredibly upset about that and want to lash out, because i've been hurt so i want the person who hurt me to hurt, too. but instead i try to sit myself down and think over the facts and my relationship with the person in question: have i been treating them well? have i actually been as kind to them as i want to be, or have i been blunt or brushing them off or just generally not keeping things together with them? the answer is honestly usually Yeah, It's My Fault, so lashing out at them is just going to validate that they made the right decision in cutting me off while also taking me farther from the Me I Want To Be in the process
i try to take a deep breath and accept what's been done to me. yes, it hurt a lot, and yes, i want to hurt them back, but...like, that's pointless, you know? that's not me being just and righteous, that's me being cruel for the sake of being cruel. that's me hurting someone who was already hurt enough to want to run away from me. it doesn't do anything good for anyone, not for the person in question, not for me, not even for the people around us who i also try to take into consideration. and then i look at myself at what i did wrong, and tell myself that i need to do better in the future, and.........that's about it really
i could apologize, but apologizing for something like that often comes off as like, self-serving to the person being apologized to...so i try to focus on improving my own actions instead. i don't want to hurt people, i don't want to be cruel, i want to bring happiness to people. do i still slip up sometimes? yes, of course, who doesn't. but i try really hard to not let myself indulge in cruelty for cruelty's sake and honestly, just keeping that in mind is all you can do sometimes
i don't know if this is a useful answer, or one that helps you out, but i can try to elaborate more if you have anything more specific you want to ask me about on this topic. obviously it's something i philosophize on often so if you want to talk about it, i'll be happy to engage!

out here with neutral to believing the best from the authors rtc takes. ocean oconnell rosenberg is Mistreated by this fandom big time—shes a really complex character that cant just be boiled down to "self centered girl who thinks shes the best by all metrics is actually a bigot in every possible way". that is what she is, but... it's more complicated than that??? she's a character in a comedy, which tend to take a bit such as that and then expand on it to create compelling characters. sorry to sound pretentious but i need you to come back to rtc when youve studied the art of the sitcom
i saw a post floating around abt how wtwn contains nazi ideology and i just went. Yeah thats the point. y'know? she thinks shes so perfect and amazing and righteous but at the end of the day shes spouting the same ideology that she likely doesn't entirely believe in, maybe not to the extremes but definitely to the worth system. i believe ocean wants to guarantee the happiness of everyone and she's definitely not a very good person beyond that because of her judgemental mindset, her inability to conceptualize that other people matter as much as a+ students who succeed constantly, her lack of empathy towards most people.
shes like a modern day 15 y/o twitter user in that shes got all this political information and terminology and whatever and shes still managed to drink the koolaid (not that i dont blame her she seems like she was impressionable at some point)
ocean doesn't change. her final decision is a bit of a face heel turn, but once again this is the point. she's dead. she lost her chance to change for the better but her core values still shine through in that moment. she's genuinely of the belief that she's right and is what the world needs, but she can't help but empathize with someone, coming to believe that jane is more important than her because she got to know her.
ocean is ignorant and very much not immune to propaganda. ocean also seems to be fairly lonely. i think if she did ever have the chance to make some genuine friends, she would be a better person. she needed to realize she can't rely on herself and the vague circle of for-show friends she's curated could genuinely be her friends, not another thing to prove that she's the best.
...this is incomprehensible but you know what i mean. if we had gotten more time to truly explore oceans character nobody would be claiming she's transphobic just bc shes a kid whos been taught very bad ideologies and ideals
ok. sorry. please dont kill me for this one i just have so many opinions on rtc and all of them are challenging as hell. have a nice day night etc

What’s your take on the idea that Gale was also a victim of becoming a child soldier? Do you think he was manipulated by Coin and the rebels? (Or do you feel he was mostly cognizant of his decisions and was firmly set on his objectives/ morals? Or somewhere in between?) What about the popular take that “he’s become what he hated/ feared?”
I mean, he was quite literally a child soldier in any scenario. This is not to say that Gale did not have any independence, because he certainly did, he was ready and willing to fight, ready and willing to make hard choices for the sake of the better, and that was certainly exploited by Coin, just as she exploited everyone else around her with similar view. Gale was offered a chance to fight, with means that he would otherwise have no access too, and of course he fought. But he would have fought in any case, though, at any chance he got, and that’s the point. And of course he was used. His want to overthrow the Capitol was what made him a perfect (unknowing) pawn in certain cases, and Coin and 13 are to blame for using him, not him.    Gale's objectives and morals are quite honestly, the most selfless and “righteous” in the entirety of THG books, out of everyone in it. I hate the take that he became what he hated/feared, because he never did. (what he became was villainized, by idiotic twats.) The idea that someone fighting back against oppression should not actually fight back, lest they become as bad as their oppressors are, is a rancid fucking view that needs to be left in the dust. (as it is, Gale proves to be capable of more sympathy and humanity towards the Capitol than than the Capitol ever will have towards him, see his remarks on the situation of the prep team’s imprisonment and after) Coin killed Prim in her vendetta against Snow, Coin killed Prim using the weapons Gale invented. Does that mean Gale was responsible for or knowingly killed Prim? Does that mean he’s retroactively equal to the Capitol because one of his weapons was used in someone else’s personal plot? Since he made the weapon he somehow bears the blame of Coin making the choice to strike the killing blow?
On the topic of the nut...District Two was one of the Capitol’s strongholds. They remained loyal to the Capitol long after most of the other districts had defected, and supplied them weapons. Weapons used to...kill members of the districts? Weapons that wiped out the population of District Twelve? Weapons being used in the offensive against the districts? In order to win the war, the Nut needed to be destroyed. The question of innocent civilians in the Nut was negligible. It was war. Should they have put the course of the revolution on halt in order to spare the lives of people that were...actively working in the Nut? The story would have you think Gale was monstrous for wanting to strike at the Nut and “kill all the innocent people in there!!” But they gave the people in there a chance to come out, didn’t they? They gave them an opening to survive on Katniss’s request, which is more then should have been considered at that point.  But to sum up, yes. Gale was a child solider. A willing child solider, but one nonetheless. His morals and objectives were justified and right, and he was used, sometimes used/manipulated by Coin and 13 in their own vendettas as a result. And NO, he never became what he was fighting against.
