A Platonic! Jason and Reyna One-Shot
Much Needed Conversation
Reyna sighed in content as she looked among the two camps as they collaborated. Her eye first caught Piper in her beautiful glory. Piper was with Leo and Drew, Leo under her arm and Drew in front of her. Piper was beaming, surprisingly, that doesn’t happen often with Drew around. Reyna couldn’t blame her though, Leo’s plan worked and he lived, they won the war.
Next she saw Frank and Hazel with Nico di Angelo. Nico wasn’t exactly smiling but he looked happy. Hazel was flicking her wrist all around as she talked to the two boys, Frank next to her with an arm around her waist.
Her eyes darted around and saw some members of the Fifth Cohort. Dakota was talking with the Stoll brothers who were alongside—Katie Gardner was it? Reyna couldn’t recall. She saw Bobby not far from him talking to some of Dionysus’ children who were enjoying Dakota’s drinks he served.
Then Percy and Annabeth came into her line of sight as they walked with their friend, Grover Underwood. The faun—satyr was hobbling along next to them, grinning widely that his two friends were back.
Then she just scanned over the camp once again. Frank, Hazel, Nico, Piper, Leo, Drew, then she saw Thalia Grace. She was standing with Jason who seemed to be introducing her to Gwendolyn.
She smiled slightly but then frowned to herself. Someone tapped her shoulder.
“Talk to him.” Hylla.
Reyna sighed. “He’s busy, and besides-“
“He does want to talk to you. You two are best friends, the whole war passing shouldn’t change that.”
Reyna faced her sister and nodded. She handed off her spear and took off her armor, then she made her way to Jason.
As she approached, Thalia grinned. Gwen waved.
“Hey, Reyna.” Thalia said.
“Thalia,” Reyna smiled slightly. “how are you?”
“Fantastic.”
“Good.”
Thalia seemed to catch the wave that she wanted to see her brother and offered to show Gwen the strawberry fields. After they left, Reyna realized how difficult this way. It shouldn’t be this hard, she thought, it’s Jason. He knows you better than anyone.
“Take a walk with me?” Jason asked.
She nodded.
They walked in silence in the forest, then rested at a tree spot. They sat in a similar position that they did on Cabin 1’s rooftop.
“I’m sorry.” Reyna said after a while.
“For what?” Jason asked. “Rey, I left-“
“Because of Juno. Or was it Hera?” Reyna shook her head. “Doesn’t matter, it wasn’t your fault. Besides…I didn’t give you the friendliest greeting when you returned. I missed you. I should’ve showed it.”
Jason smiled for good measure. It was comforting. “I missed you too. You were one of the very few people I could remember.”
“Do you have all those memories back?”
He shook his head. “No, not yet. I think I have almost them all though. I got some more of us back. Like when we went swimming in the ocean after a mission.”
Reyna laughed. A real laugh. “I remember that, I think I almost drowned.”
“We could’ve used Percy during that.”
Reyna shrugged. “I’m fine with just you, Grace.”
Jason eyes flashed lightening, showing off a grin so he scarred lips didn’t have to.
“I’m fine with just you too, Ramirez.” He flashed his all-too-well-know friendly smile. “I’m sorry I never gave you closure on what happened after I got back. I didn’t exactly try acting on the subject.”
“Fair point,” Reyna agreed. “so…we’re good?”
“Of course we are Rey,” Jason carefully put an arm around her. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
“Me too, Jay, me too.”
She stood and yanked him up with her, then she threw her arms around his shoulders. His arms snaked around her middle into a warm embrace that Jason Grace seemed to give everyone who wanted a hug—needed or not.
When she pulled away she flashed him a cocky grin, not something you see everyday—not something anyone has ever seen. Jason has.
“So tell me, Grace,” she was teasing him. “Since you an Aphrodite’s girl broke up..I see you and Valdez are looking quite cozy.”
Jason’s ears went red. “We’re not cozy. Well—no cozier than usual.”
Reyna hummed, unconvinced.
“How about you tell me, Ramirez,” he grinned. “what about you and our beauty queen? Your not exactly good at hiding googly eyes.”
She punched his shoulder playfully with a laugh as he wiggled his eyebrows at her.
“Shut up,” she called as she turned around. “Let’s get back to camp.”
“Which one?”
She shrugged and turned over as he tapped her shoulder, just so Jason could move to her opposing side. She glared.
“Camp Half-Blood?” He asked. “Our second home.”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “Yeah our second home.”
After a few moments of silence, she laughed.
“What?” Jason raised an eyebrow.
“Who would’ve thought we’d come this far, huh?”
“I did.” He put an arm around her again. “We got us, what did you expect.”
She smiled. “Nothing less and nothing more. We’re pretty fucking great.”
“Of course we are,” Jason chuckled. “We’re Rey and Jay, the unstoppable duo.”
“Inseparable too.” Reyna smiled.

The Poor Character Developments in the Heroes of Olympus Series
Rick Riordan doesn’t know how to write character arcs ✨
-Percy. What arc did he even have? From The Last Olympian to The Son of Neptune it seems like he just got more arrogant and douchey, and this is never explained or expanded on. The readers don’t know why he suddenly got so arrogant. His pride got out of control and he was doing things he knew he couldn’t do but jumped into anyway like attacking a giant head-on alone. He was reckless in PJO, but every time he always had a plan. In HoO he just turned careless. He even put other demigods’ lives at risk at times and honestly didn’t do much throughout the series. He was just kind of there, not really contributing to anything and only involved when the book needed comedic relief or to remind the readers that ‘Hey, Percy is super cool and powerful’. As for his arc, he didn’t change at all. He just got annoying and way too self-involved and vain. I mean- he was literally in front of Hercules, the man who broke Zoë Nightshade’s heart- the girl who literally sacrificed herself for Percy- and he didn’t even say or do anything? He didn’t even mention Zoë or think about her at all. All he was worried about was how ‘big-shot Jason’ got to meet the all-famous Hercules and he didn’t. And this never changed. Percy’s character arc was completely flat cause he never learned from his lessons or mistakes. Even when in Tartarus and was reminded of all the people that he lost during the Second Titan War, how he forgot about Calypso on her island for over two years, and how he left Bob the Titan alone in the Underworld, he didn’t make any move to change. After that scene, he completely forgot to even mention them again.
-Annabeth. Same thing with Annabeth, except her realism was ripped from her. She was well-written in PJO with actual flaws and weaknesses, relationships outside of her romantic one with Percy, a very important and crucial role, fighting bravely, etc., but in HoO, she- just like Percy- was pretty much dead weight, and she became extremely weak. The only thing she really accomplished was following the Mark of Athena and getting the Athena Parthenos, but she still had to be saved by everyone else, and honestly any other demigod could’ve done it way faster. Nico literally could’ve just shadow-travelled to the statue then shadow-travelled it back out. The only times she fought (which was very few times) she was always with another demigod, and the two-three times she actually fought she always had to be saved, by a newbie, especially. In the Temple of Fear, Piper ‘toughened’ her up and saved her three times from the giant Mimas, and when caught by the giants, Piper was the one to save Annabeth (again). She couldn’t do anything by herself without others having to save or help her. And she also became very dull. She didn’t have any more of her pride, short temper, care, ferocity, etc. All she was was a Percy fangirl. Everything was about him and him only. This also didn’t change. We didn’t see any improvement or alterations to her personality whatsoever.
-Jason. The majority of the fandom doesn’t like Jason- which is understandable- but they hate on him for the wrong reasons. They dislike him cause he was ‘boring’ despite him actually having multiple distinct personality traits. They just think he didn’t have any personality cause his traits weren’t directly commented on like the other characters’ were (which is actually bad writing, readers should be able to interpret a character’s personality without it being stated to them by other characters). And he even had a sense of humor. His character arc though...fell short. But! He could’ve had an amazing character arc, Riordan just focused on the wrong parts. Riordan’s take on Jason’s character arc was deciding if he was more ‘Greek or Roman’ and then deciding he was both. But...that makes no sense, cause that’s just stereotyping every single Greek and every single Roman. The fandom says that the Romans are the cruel, harsh, and merciless ones, but what about Hazel? Or Frank? Or Reyna? Or the fact that they immediately accepted Nico while Camp Half-Blood outcasted and even ostracized him? And they say that the Greeks are the fun, cool, relaxed ones, but what about Percy, the only character to canonically torture? Or Annabeth, the unfriendly bossy one? Or Thalia, the merciless, ambitious hunter? Or Piper, the prejudiced manipulator? So really, Jason’s character arc made no sense. It was written to be Jason going from ‘always following the rules and following expectations because of his godly parent’ to ‘doing whatever he wants’, but the fandom forgets that Camp Jupiter is the one who doesn’t care about godly parent, Camp Half-Blood does, cause Camp Jupiter has demigods live in barracks for the sole purpose of demigods without family members not having to live alone while Camp Half-Blood separates cabins and tables by parentage and immediately set Percy to high standards after he was claimed. Besides, does Camp Jupiter have harpies that literally kill demigods if they’re out past curfew? Plus, Jason was breaking multiple rules before his character arc anyways- leaving Camp Jupiter, sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, etc.
-Piper. Oh boy. Where to start with this one. I’ve already gone over how her horribly-portrayed backstory ruined the chances of a good character arc, but now let’s discuss the character arc she actually had. And the best way to describe it is ‘tell not show’. The main idea for Piper’s character arc was that she felt insecure about herself and useless and that she gained confidence in herself and her powers, but that’s not actually what happened, because starting from The Lost Hero, Piper showed multiple narcissistic tendencies that showed that she had a huge ego and placed herself on a pedestal she did nothing to earn or deserve. This is first shown with femininity- Piper immediately thinks that she’s better and above any girl if they so much as wear lip gloss or a dress, which is a sign of an obvious ego: thinking you’re better than everyone else (or in her case, a certain group of people) before getting to know them first. It’s also shown when her and Annabeth are looking for a weapon for Piper and when suggested that she doesn’t choose a dagger cause she’s a newbie, Piper retaliates with “But you use a dagger”...aka thinking she’s already on Annabeth’s level and that she can do whatever Annabeth can despite being a newbie. It’s not hypocrisy if Annabeth has been training for over nine years. Another example would be in The Mark of Athena-  "Piper's eyes flashed defiantly, like anything Reyna could do, she could do". Like, no, she can’t, cause Reyna has been training her whole life and Piper doesn’t even know her. Piper shows multiple signs of having a very high opinion of herself, including degrading others (especially other women) for her own sake, thinking she can do what anyone else can, thinking she’s better than everyone else, constantly fussing over her appearance, thinking she deserves everything she’s gotten and that she deserves more without earning it, etc., so her entire character arc wasn’t even there. She just went from quiet about her narcissism to openly expressing it. She never grew from her horrible traits and habits, never realized she was wrong by jumping all over Jason while he was amnesiac, etc., and the whole ‘feeling of uselessness’ was brought up once then never expanded on or mentioned ever again, and nor was her internalized misogyny and fiery hatred towards femininity (which wasn’t even explained). Riordan should’ve used the ‘snobby rich girl learns to be kinder and more modest’ or expanded on the fact that Piper almost killed her friends multiple times. In Katoptris, she saw Jason with gold eyes in Kansas then said ‘Let’s go to Kansas!’ She saw her, Jason, and Percy literally drowning and legit said ‘Let’s go drown!’ without telling them about what she actually saw in her dagger. She saw her and Annabeth exploring some ruins and said ‘Let’s go!’ despite knowing the visions were deadly. She put all of her friends in multiple, life-threatening situations and never felt guilty and wasn’t even called out on it, because no one said if the visions in Katoptris were fate- something you can’t avoid- or destiny- something you can choose and change.
-Frank. Frank’s character arc was clear, but it happened in the wrong way. The main idea of his development was that he was insecure about his appearance then gained confidence from it, but he did only after he magically gained rippling abs and muscle. He only felt good about himself once he lost all his fat as if that’s not obvious lookism, fatphobia, and fat shaming (thanks, Riordan). Frank should’ve learned to love himself despite his flab and appearance and learned that it didn’t matter what he looked like cause he would still be a hero either way. He should’ve shown the readers that ‘Hey, I don’t care what I look like, cause appearance doesn’t matter, whether you choose to do the right thing or not does’, but it was wasted for fat shaming every single reader who was insecure about their weight and didn’t or couldn’t get skinnier and telling them that they should be insecure about themselves because they don’t look like Frank. Is it really so hard for society to believe that a lot of people who aren’t stick-thin are happy and confident about their body?
-Hazel. Honestly, her character arc was one of the most confusing ones, cause she didn’t have anything to drive or even start one. Her backstory is tragic, yes, but there isn’t anything in it that she has to learn to change from cause all of that was resolved when she took down Alcyoneus and Gaea. The only thing I can think of is learning to break away from toxic people even if they’re your family or friend or cause you don’t want to hurt their feelings, but Hazel didn’t struggle with relationships at all. She wasn’t even introduced to any toxic people besides Octavian, and she already hated him. Her transition from the racist and segregated days to the modern world could’ve been really good material for a character arc along with internalized racism- she of all people (someone born and raised in segregation who was taught to hate herself and her skin tone) would grow up thinking that there was something wrong with her because of her dark skin tone and- especially after meeting so many different people of different ethnic groups and skin colors- could’ve learned to love herself and learn that skin tone doesn’t define you (which also would’ve been a perfect lesson for younger readers). Another thing that puzzled me about her ‘development’ was her powers. Her Mist control powers are cool, but what would’ve been cooler was if she was reluctant to use them because she wouldn’t want to twist the minds of people just like Gaea did to her mom. Her gem and metal control powers could’ve been expanded on but they were barely mentioned after The Son of Neptune. As for her curse, that...made absolutely no sense. Her curse was honestly just dead weight. It wasn’t even that one thing that had a lot of potential, it didn’t even have potential, cause what would she ever use it for? It was just used to make her backstory sadder, but it was never mentioned again or even explained. The only thing it could’ve been used for (and what I was hoping would happen) was if one her friends or allies took one of her cursed jewels and died because of it. The one thing I was really hoping to see in her character arc was from the quote she said to Hecate after Hecate gave her the three paths to choose from- “I’m not choosing one of your paths. I’m making my own.” This really sparked my interest because almost everything Hazel had gone through was forced onto her by others without her consent. She didn’t choose to be born into racism and segregation. She didn’t choose to be cursed. She didn’t choose to be used as a pawn by Gaea through her mother. She didn’t choose to almost raise a giant and nearly bring upon the apocalypse. She didn’t choose to use her curse against others and move to multiple places. She didn’t choose to be brought back to life. She didn’t choose to be brought to Camp Jupiter and thrown into an army. She didn’t choose to be a part of the Seven and face the same woman who used her and had her mother possessed years ago. The only two choices she made herself- destroying the island and Alcyoneus and sacrificing Elysium so her mother wouldn’t go to the Fields of Punishment- and she and her mother died because of it and she went to Asphodel for years. I was really hoping to see Hazel break free from others always making decisions for her and learn to make her own choices, but that never happened.
-Leo: His character arc was also very confusing, but because it was all over the place. Riordan kept switching up Leo’s internal problems; forgetting about one of them and jumping to another, jumping to three different others, and then going back to the first one a few chapters later. It was so confusing. And then- in the end- he focused on the worst problem Leo had- not finding a love interest. I mean, who exactly focuses on whether or not they have a girlfriend while in the middle of a war and fighting to survive again? I liked Leo’s other problems- guilt over and blaming himself for his mother’s death, seeing his fire powers as a curse instead of a gift, forcing himself to hide his pain with humor instead of opening up to people, running away from all his problems, and his abandonment issues and constant fear of being left out and alone, but they were all replaced with ‘He felt like the seventh wheel’ (cause yes, Riordan, if you don’t have a love interest, you are immediately lesser than anyone who does, obviously). Leo got over his mother’s death in The Lost Hero- which, great- but after that nothing too memorable changed about his character. He never even used or mentioned his fire powers after The Lost Hero, he continued to hide all his pain with humor, hide his emotions from other people, and never learned to open up to others about his pain and trauma, he never learned to stop running away from his powers (shown by when he faked his own death without bothering to talk to the others about feeling left out), and his abandonment issues and fears were never expanded on, he just ran into the arms of a girl who verbally abused and constantly insulted him AKA ran to the person who gave him attention, even if it was the bad kind of attention, as if that’s not something emotionally scarred people and people with abandonment issues do, and he never grew from accepting unfair hate and criticism.
-Nico. His character development was actually pretty good. From going to an energetic, cheerful, and playful kid to becoming a quiet, closed-off, and independent teen who struggled with depression and feeling alone and like he didn’t belong, to finding comfort in his family and friends (especially Reyna, Hazel, and Will) and learning to accept himself for who he was (as a son of Hades and as gay) and how to confide in others about his struggles, problems, and trauma and finally letting people in after being do dubious of people after Percy broke his promise to protect Bianca, he found out that King Minos was using him, and almost all of Camp Half-Blood excluded and ignored him. After being alone for most of his life, by the end of The Blood of Olympus, he has two homes (as stated by Reyna), is comfortable with people hugging him, allowed people to take care of and help him, decided to stay at Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter instead of isolating himself, made a bunch of new friends that helped him through his struggles, and he even showed multiple signs of healing from his depression and anxiety. His character development was pretty well-written. But, there was one thing wrong with it that kind of ruined the rest- his love life. Nico had an incredible character arc that could’ve taught multiple valuable lessons to younger readers, but most of it was ditched after he came out as gay in The House of Hades. Throughout all of his point of views in The Blood of Olympus, Nico never thought about any of his past trauma or struggles, Bianca, his new family and friends, etc. Pretty much all he thought about was finding out how to come out to the others and Percy. And while mustering the courage to come out is a huge deal and is great material for a character arc, Riordan never actually utilized it. Nico telling Reyna he was gay was really touching (best duo) and telling Percy he had a crush on him was great, but after that, his entire character was about his attraction towards Will (which was way too rushed, but that’s for another rant), and it got pretty annoying cause it made it obvious that Riordan only confirmed him gay for publicity by trying to shove it in the reader’s faces as if every gay person needs to have a boyfriend to validate and prove their sexuality. Riordan should’ve stayed on track with Nico’s original character arc.
-Reyna. THE BEST CHARACTER ARC. Hers was actually really good. She started off trying to do everything on her own because she believed that she had to be strong enough to do things by herself without help from others to learning that it’s okay to ask for help. She also started off with the (quite serious and traumatizing) problem of bottling all her emotions because she believed that she always had to put on a strong, brave face for others without showing any signs of weakness to learning that it’s okay to express your emotions and confide in others (and again, that it’s okay to ask for help). This was mostly evident after she met Nico, which (in my opinion) kick-started her motivation to change because once she saw how much Nico needed help and giving him that support and comfort, realized that everyone is allowed to ask for help and started confiding in Nico as well. I like how she stayed strict and serious cause she has a formal job- a job that’s equivalent to an American’s president, that is- so she’s supposed to be serious, and she’s only strict cause she wants to protect her people. Though I do hate when people misjudge her as ‘cold-hearted’ or ‘cruel’ because Reyna is actually one of the kindest and most selfless characters in the series. Even Pegasus (the immortal lord of the pegasi) was ‘touched’ by Reyna’s ‘compassion’ towards Scipio (he didn’t even say that to Percy about Blackjack), and it’s pretty obvious she cares deeply about her family, friends, and people. And overall, her character arc was easily the best-written one in HoO. But then Riordan- just like he does with most things in this series- completely trashed her character arc just so he could have the opportunity to make fun of wlw readers who thought Reyna and Thalia would be a good couple by making her leave everything behind for the Hunters of Artemis just cause she ‘couldn’t find a love interest’ as if joining the Hunters is the only option for single female demigods instead of just...living a normal demigod life without a partner without leaving everything they know and love behind for no reason other than their shitty love life.

The Princess and the Half Bloods part seven
They drove to Leo’s house first. When they pulled up, the garage door was open, showing an old car and a pair of legs sticking out from underneath it. Percy rolled the window down.
“Hey Ms. Valdez. Is Leo even awake yet?” Percy called out.
“Yes, I just saw him eating.” A woman emerged from the depths of the car, t-shirt and jeans splattered with oil and grease. “Leo!” she yelled. “Percy y una chica estan aqui! Ven aqui!”
“Yo se, Mama. I heard them pull up,” Leo said, appearing in the doorway to the house. “Estamos ir a la casa de Jason. Don’t wait up, okay?”
“Toma tu tarea, por favor. I don’t want you to fall behind, mijo.”
“Si, Mama,” he sighed, shoving his backpack into the backseat ahead of him. “Let’s get out of here before she starts looking up what schoolwork I’m missing and makes me play catch up on that, too.” Percy pulled out of the driveway with a wave at Ms. Valdez.
“Do you have homework you need to get done?” Annabeth asked.
“Yeah, but it’s not important. We practice pretty much the whole day so I won’t even have time to do it, were I inclined to.”
“I promised Chiron I would keep you guys on track with school. You can’t fail and get grounded and miss a night at The Big House.”
“Well Saturdays are off limits, we definitely have to keep up with our practices,” Percy interjected. “And Sundays are usually working on developing songs.”
“When do you typically do homework then?”
Percy and Leo shared a look in the rearview mirror. “Whenever I have the spare time,” Percy said with a shrug.
“I see. So you just don’t, right?” she asked, exasperated.
“Not usually, no,” he admitted.
Annabeth sighed. “Piper, Hazel, and Frank meet up with me on Tuesdays so we can work on our homework together. I’ll help with anything you need. We usually go to a coffee shop but all seven of us would take up a lot of room. I’ll have to talk to Piper about letting us use her house instead.”
“If we have to study, a tricked out mansion isn’t a bad place to do it in,” Leo said, perking up.
Annabeth rolled her eyes. “So how long does practice last?”
“You’ll be getting home pretty late, if that’s okay with you. The garage has been soundproofed after a lot of complaints from Jason’s neighbors, so we can practice well into the night without having to worry about keeping anyone up,” Percy explained.
“That’s fine with me, I don’t think my dad is expecting me back for dinner anyway.”
They pulled up to the Grace house, parking behind the van on the street. Jason came out to meet them as they got out.
“Hey guys, girl,” he said, nodding to Annabeth.
“Unlock the van, I need to make sure my baby remains unscathed,” Leo called, pulling on the back door of the vehicle.
“Your girlfriend is just fine, Leo,” Jason said, but pulled out his keys and unlocked the doors anyway. Leo started checking over his drum set. “Everything is all set up for practice, just gotta get the drums in there.”
“Cool,” Percy said. He went around to the trunk of his car and grabbed his guitar. “We’re going to do a playthrough of all our songs and covers for Annabeth today.”
“Sounds like a plan. Mom is out for the day, possibly the night. Either way, I doubt we’ll see her.” It was only a little bitter. Annabeth wondered at the relationship there, but didn’t feel it would be appropriate for her to ask.
She followed Percy and Jason into the garage, leaving Leo to struggle with the drum set on his own after he insisted she let him carry it himself. The other two started checking that their guitars were tuned while they waited. Annabeth booted up her laptop and started setting up a YouTube channel for them. She created a new email for the band and used it to make the account.
Piper texted her while Leo was finishing putting up the drums: Are you awake? The band was a hit, obviously.
Yeah, she sent back. I’m at their practice right now. Setting up social media for them before they start at the bar.
The reply came almost immediately. Without me???? Annabeth chuckled.
“What’s so funny?” Percy inquired.
“Piper. Hey, is it cool if she comes and helps me set up all this social media for you guys? She’s like, a PR goddess.”
“Yes. Yeah, of course. She’s totally welcome here,” Jason stuttered out.
Annabeth texted Piper the address with no explanation and put down her phone in favor of the computer. She didn’t have to wait long before her phone was buzzing with another text from Piper.
I’m here but no one else is? I’ve been ringing the doorbell for like five minutes.
“Oops, shit,” Annabeth muttered as she got up from the beanbag she had taken over when she came in.
The boys all looked up from their instruments. “Something wrong?” Percy asked.
“Piper,” she said as she opened the door that exited to the front yard. “Hey, we’re back here. Sorry, it’s soundproofed.”
“There you are,” Piper said. “I was beginning to think they had kidnapped and murdered you.”
“Not yet. I think they were just about to start, yeah?” It turned into a question at the end as she looked toward the band.
“Yeah. We’re going to start with our covers. Ready?” Percy asked the others. They murmured their assent and it was quiet for a minute until they started playing. The first song they played was After Midnight again. Percy winked at her just before he started singing.
Most of their covers were songs that Annabeth knew, Blink 182 and Sum 41 and the entirety of the Green Day album that Percy said had inspired him to start playing. There were a few she didn’t recognize, some from a band called Waterparks that Annabeth vowed to listen to when she had the free time because The Half Bloods played them so perfectly, and some from Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, and other bands she’d never even heard of. She was glad for their long list of covers that they could pull songs from to play during their sets so they didn’t play the same songs every weekend. They could play a couple original songs and a bunch of covers each time and people wouldn’t get bored.
Annabeth watched them play, making a note in her phone of each song. When they took breaks for water and just giving their arms a rest, Piper and Annabeth busied themselves with setting up an account on every major social media platform for them. She added them all to a group chat and sent the login info for all the accounts. Piper took a picture of them while they were playing and set it as their profile picture.
“Until we can get a professional in, it’ll do,” she said, nodding to herself.
They took a longer break once they’d exhausted their list of covers. It was already near dinner time, so they all piled into Jason’s van and went through the Wendy’s drive through. The boys refused to let the girls pay and split the bill three ways as a thanks for the work they were doing.
“So we were talking,” Percy said once they were back in the garage and eating, “and we were thinking that we’re going to use the extra ten percent you wouldn’t take for things for the band. Like the photoshoot you were talking about and like recording time and stuff.”
“That’s actually a very good idea,” Annabeth approved. She probably should’ve thought about that herself.
“Would you mind taking care of that money? I’d probably lose it or accidentally spend it.”
“I can put it in a separate account that’s only for band stuff. I’ll probably be the one booking everything anyway so I might as well. I’ll go make the bank account this week.”
“You’re a godsend,” Jason said with his mouth full of fries. Piper laughed and he tried to quickly swallow it all but only choked. She laughed harder as Leo pounded on his back.
“Okay, enough fucking around. Let’s get playing our originals,” Percy said, grabbing his guitar. Annabeth settled deeper into the beanbag she had claimed. Her part of the job was over for the day and she could truly enjoy watching the band play their originals with no distractions.
They played their whole CD through, followed by a couple others that they hadn’t had an opportunity to record. Percy and Jason were perfect, their voices harmonizing beautifully. Leo was a beast, slamming out the beats with no more than a thirty second break between songs.
Things slowed and relaxed as they started playing parts of unfinished songs and suggesting changes and additions. Jason nailed down a bridge for one song and Leo played around with a solo until it was up to his standards, then pushed it a little farther, a little faster. Percy strummed and hummed mostly to himself in one of the corners, trying to find words to fit his little riff. Annabeth watched, enraptured, as they worked their magic. Piper spent most of the time setting up little details like bios on the social media accounts and circling the boys to take more pictures for Instagram. She handed her phone over to Annabeth so she could pick out which pictures were good enough to post. She sent the ones she liked to herself so she could post them.
Eventually Piper had to leave because her dad was supposed to fly home early tomorrow to spend the week with her before setting off for another film next weekend. After she left, Annabeth put up the pictures on Insta and Facebook, then turned off her phone and leaned her head back. The music that The Half Bloods played wasn’t exactly lullaby material, but the party the night before had really taken it out of her and she’d been on the whole day since she woke up. She drifted off.
She woke to Percy gently shaking her. “Hey, it’s time to go. We’re finished for the night.”
The bean bag was not the most comfortable thing she’d ever slept on, leaving her with a stiff neck and heavy arms. She blinked blearily and stood, grabbing for her bag, but Percy already had it packed and slung over his shoulder. She smiled sleepily at him, and Percy responded with a brilliant one of his own, grabbing her hand to guide her clumsy limbs to the car.
“Could you carry my shit, too?” Leo called after them. “I’m not holding your hand, though.”
“Get your shit in the car and let’s go,” Percy said, flipping him off. Leo grumbled to himself about how he was tired too but got in the car after Percy had deposited her safely in the passenger seat.
As they drove Leo home, Annabeth pulled out her phone to check notifications on the band accounts. They already had three followers: Piper, Hazel, and Frank. Piper must’ve texted the others.
There was another post in addition to the pictures of the band playing that she didn’t remember making. She clicked on it, worried that she had accidentally posted something that wasn’t meant for the official account.
“Late night band practice. Catch us live @thebighouse every Friday and Saturday starting this weekend!” the caption read. It was a picture of Annabeth, curled up on the bean bag, asleep. Percy crouched next to her with a smirk, one hand making the peace sign and the other taking the picture.
Annabeth smiled to herself and watched the houses fly by as Percy sped away.

OK
@zoeconstellation mentioned how no one shipped leoxpercy (lercy? peo?) and i said it was because they have like 2 canon interactions.
SO
this got me thinking that the two could actually be really good friends. which led to this (under the break):
- their relationship starts a bit strained because their first impressions of each other are not very ... good
- they obviously bitch about each other to their friends who can’t for the life of them understand why they hate each other
leo: i just feel like he’s not as good as everyone makes him out to be, you know? i mean, wow, he can control water. so what? i can control fire! tell me that’s not more badass.
hazel, who just spent 30 minutes listening to percy complain about how immature leo is: uh huh
- but they never say anything to each other’s face. it’s all very passive aggressive and it drives the other five and coach hedge CRAZY
percy: jason, can you pass the syrup please?
leo: the syrup is literally right in front of me--
percy, louder: jASON CAN YOU PASS THE SYRUP PLEASE--
- until one day annabeth has had enough of it and just locks them in a room together to talk it out with strict rules not to leave until they’re friends. or at the very least, not enemies.
- and annabeth is scary enough to make them agree
- so into the room they go
- it’s initially a bit awkward to suddenly be trapped in a room with someone you’ve just been talking shit about, so they sit in silence for a while before percy speaks first
percy: we weren’t ... that bad, right?
leo: ... nah. annabeth is probably just over reacting
percy: nice to see nothing’s changed. you should’ve seen her when she was 12
- and just like that, they agree on something.
- this leads to them talking more and percy realises that leo uses humour as a coping mechanism and has actually been through some shit while leo realises that percy is actually a really humble dude who tends to give the credit to other people, much to annabeth’s chagrin
leo: you ... killed a minotaur with your bare hands?
percy: yeah but only because my mom told me to use his horn
- that leads to them talking about their moms. another thing they bond over: their love for their moms. percy immediately invited leo over to see sally when the quest is over
- leo doeS NOT CRY HE JUST GETS A BIT OF HAYFEVER
- needless to say, when annabeth finally unlocks the door a couple hours later, leo and percy are on their way to becoming very close friends
- they start experimenting with their powers, trying to discover which is more powerful, water or fire
piper: leo, why are you wet
leo: i tried to set fire to the sea, but i fell in and percy had to rescue me
piper: you wHAT?
annabeth, who is absolutely done with everything: he tried to set fire to the sea but he fell in and percy had to rescue him
- they discover they share the same sense of humour that no one else on the team has. often percy will just whisper something under his breath which causes leo to have a laughing fit that none of the others understand
- I N S I D E  J O K E S
- they would 100% be the friend duo that have the most random inside jokes that no one else gets (jason is convinced there isn’t even a story behind half of them, they just say there is to piss him off)
piper, being a badass and fighting a monster with her cornucopia when a pineapple comes out:
leo, in the middle of trying to stop the ship from falling: PERCY, IT”S A PINEAPPLE
percy, on the other side of the ship fighting a monster while simultaneously preventing a storm from wrecking the ship: HAHAHAHAHHAHAH
jason, trying not to get killed and trying to not accidentally electrocute anything that isn’t a monster: what the fUCK
- then tartarus happens.
- percy keeps saying jokes under his breath before looking around and realising there is no one to laugh at them
- and leo keeps referencing random inside jokes before looking around and realising there is no one to understand them
- :(
- then ... calypso
- unlike in canon, leo doesn’t immediately hate percy. he understands that percy didn’t have a lot of time to make sure the gods were keeping good on his promise because he was busy having his memory wiped on the other side of america
- in the final battle, the two absolutely destroy any monsters in their path and when leo dies, percy takes it the hardest (he also hits leo the hardest when he returns)
- percy suffers from survivors guilt because of the line from the prophecy that says “from storm or fire the world must fall” and feels that if he tried a bit harder to kill gaia then leo wouldn’t be dead
- and they never tell annabeth that the reason they became friends was because they both thought she was over-reacting

The Fastpass Scam
What? My first fic posted in almost 3 months, what? It’s a miracle honestly! Anyway, it’s a small one and it’s another Disney au where all of the 7 work at Disney. And this was also inspired/taken from an experience I had with all my friends having a fastpass for Space Mountain, and I did not, so we scammed my way into the fastpass queue...and many other rides after that. It’s short, it’s simple, and it’s not beta’d or edited. So take it in all it’s first draft glory.
Everyone had their phones out in front of them. They were standing in the middle of Tomorrowland, trying to figure out who was connected with whom on the Disney parks app they had all downloaded at the beginning of their program.
The sun was blazing down in the middle of the park, making it difficult for them all to see their screens properly, without having to sacrifice taking off their sunglasses even just for a minute.
Percy looked up from his phone and ran a hand through his hair. It was coated with sweat, making it stay combed back while his head was tilted up. He looked up towards the blue sky, where there were no clouds for protection from the rays of the sun. It made him regret coming to parks, just a little. They should’ve gone to Animal Kingdom instead, at least there was the protection of the trees for shade.
“Fuck it’s hot out, can we like not stand out in the middle of the sun and find shade instead,” he suggested with a hint of complaining.
Annabeth looked up and nodded in agreement. She pointed towards the little area right under the People Mover track that provided some shade. Together their friend group shuffled along to stop the burning on their skin and continue their search.
“Okay, I have everyone linked up to the 12:20 timeslot for Space Mountain, except Hazel,” Annabeth announced her fingers sliding across her touch screen.
Hazel let out a huff, tilting her body weight to her right leg, and placing her hand on her hip. She was wearing a sundress that glittered a golden color when reflecting the light, and it matched her cinnamon colored hair that was tightly braided into a bun on top of her head. Her green magicband standing starkly out on her skin.
“I haven’t a clue on how to work this damn thing I swear to god.”
Her southern drawl elongated all her vowels and made even her complaining seem cute. Leo wrapped an arm around her shoulders and leaned his head against hers. Hazel was the only person shorter than Leo, something he took advantage of greatly.
“Aw, it’s okay. Not everyone can be as technologically advanced as Moi,” Leo bragged with a big grin on his face.
He was in a t-shirt that was colored off white, with a pair of suspenders and khaki shorts, creating a horrible combination that could be considered some weird way of dressing up for Dapper Day.
Hazel huffed again and shrugged his arm off her shoulder looking down at her old iPhone 4 screen. She pressed some buttons and kept scrolling trying to figure it out.
“I can help if you want,” Annabeth offered with a smile, but Hazel waved her off.
“Let me see if I can figure it out.”
After a few minutes of her being not successful, Percy glanced at his phone time to see it was 12:17. They technically had an hour time slot to get on the ride, but they preferred to do it fast otherwise they’d forget and a fastpass would be wasted. And no one wanted to waste a fastpass on a ride that was difficult to get them anyway.
“It doesn’t look like it’s going to work,” Frank meekly said breaking the silence of the group.
His cheeks were flushed red, but whether that was from blushing or the beginnings of sunburn was up to interpretation. Hazel put her phone away in defeat. She shrugged her shoulders.
“Well, y’all should just go on without me. I’ll wait in the gift shop.”
Immediate protests started. They wouldn’t leave someone behind just because of something so trivial like not having a fastpass. Percy turned to see that Annabeth had her thinking face on. Even from behind her sunglasses, he could tell. Her eyebrows were scrunched together and her lips pursed.
“I have an idea.”
“What is it?” Jason asked.
“Okay, this works when we’re in big packs like this one. So, me, Jason, and Piper will walk up and scan our bands first. And Hazel will be put in the middle and she’ll scan hers and keep going even though the mickey will turn blue. But you have to move quickly, and Percy, Leo, and Frank will have to scan right afterward so she doesn’t get caught.”
“Are you crazy?” Percy asked in shock, “you can’t just scam the system like that! If there’s one thing to know, it’s that Disney knows everything.”
Piper scoffed and linked her arm through Annabeth’s. Through her Ray Bans, you could see her looking at everyone.
“Take a chill pill, it works every time Annabeth and I have done it. Not a big deal. It’ll work for Hazel too. The hardest part is getting through the first checkpoint.”
Jason and Frank shared a skeptical look. Percy always though the two of them together were always up to no good. They always dragged them into schemes.
“And we won’t get termed for doing something like this? Seems risky,” Jason pointed out, ever the voice of reason. Their own Jiminy Cricket.
“Bro, it’ll be fine. Worst they do is they turn Hazel away and then we don’t ride and the day sucks that much more,” Leo joined in teaming with the girls.
“Just take your park pass out, let’s go,” Annabeth said pointing to the giant white mountain of a ride.
Both she and Piper skipped on ahead still linking arms. Leo quickly joined up with them, leaving Jason, Frank, Percy and Hazel to take up the rear.
“I have a bad feeling about this,” Percy muttered.
“Not even two months into the program, and we’ll be kicked out for something as stupid as trying to scam our way into a fastpass line for Space Mountain,” Frank added.
“Those three will be the death of me. Smartest people I’ve ever met but they lack common sense sometimes,” Jason concluded.
The fastpass queue was a little backed up, so it didn’t matter how long it took the four of them to meet up with the other three. Piper turned around, her pink band raised up ready to be scanned.
“Stick to the plan Grumpy’s,” she stage whispered.
The cast member at the podium looked bored out of her mind. Percy empathized, it would get monotonous just watching people scan their bands all shift. He’s never been more thankful for being in entertainment where he can move around.
Annabeth and Piper scanned theirs first, the mickey glowing a bright green in approval. Leo went next, and then Hazel did hers. It went bright blue and brought attention to the cast member who raised an eyebrow. Her amber eyes glanced down at her main gate pass.
“Cast member? Go ahead,” she said jerking her head towards the entrance of the ride and then touched a few buttons on the screen in front of her.
Hazel let out a sigh of relief and met up with the other three who had already passed. Once Percy, Jason, and Frank scanned theirs in they walked into the dark corridor of Space Mountain.
The breeze of air conditioning that greeted them, made Percy sigh and elicit a loud groan, which was chorused by all his friends. It was the most beautiful feeling in the entire world.
As they made their way deeper into the line queue, Piper and Annabeth turned around to walk backward and face their friends. Their sunglasses were raised on their heads, showing their eyes. Both had shit-eating grins on their faces.
“Told you it would work,” Annabeth bragged.
“Hakuna matata, what a wonderful phrase, hakuna matata, ain’t no passing craze,” Piper began to sing.
“IT MEANS NO WORRIES, FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAYS,” Annabeth joined in, their voices at a yelling tone.
Percy glanced over at the regular queue and saw that people were looking at his friends like they were crazy. Percy stifled a laugh, and he saw the rest of them were too. Piper and Annabeth had broken into hysterical laughter at their own expense and were skipping along.
Leo turned around, “Stick with me, and you’ll never go hungry, or have to wait in regular lines, again!” he shouted. He tried to do his best Scar impression, but his voice wasn’t nearly deep enough for it to do any justice.
“What’s with all the Lion King today?” Frank wondered.
Hazel shrugged her shoulders, “I don’t know, but these three might as well be the hyenas.”
“We heard that! See if we get you into fastpass lines again!” Piper threatened.
Percy just shook his head laughing at the shenanigans of his friends whom he loved.

The Third Rule
Based on the one word prompt “Party” sent in by @bailci (ty!!). Happy Valentine’s Day (especially to my fellow single people spending today with fictional people instead of real ones. you rock). You’re all wonderful and I love you all so much <3
Summary: When Nico reluctantly goes to a Valentine’s Day party with Hazel, she sets three rules for him to follow if he wants for her to agree to take him home after an hour. The first two are easy enough, but the third one poses a bit more of a problem, due to the fact that Nico really isn’t sure how the whole flirting thing is done.
Word Count: 2735
Read on ao3
“Alright, I have three rules,” Hazel announced as she parked the car.
Nico rolled his eyes. “I thought you promised tonight would be fun.”
“These are fun rules.”
“There’s no such thing.”
She leaned over to punch his shoulder, perhaps a bit harder than necessary. “Hush. Now, rule number one is that you have to actually try to enjoy yourself, okay? You’re not allowed to give up before you’ve started. Again, we can leave after an hour if you really don’t want to be here anymore but you have to try. Got it?”
Nico nodded resignedly.
“Good. Rule number two: Limit the alcohol.”
Nico raised his eyebrows. “And by that you mean no alcohol?”
Hazel sighed, biting her lip. “No, and if this doesn’t show you how desperate I am for you to have fun then I don’t know what will. But yeah, someone’ll have brought a keg or something and I’ve made the questionable decision to let you have some.”
“You know, last time I checked, I was the older one.”
She punched him again. “Yeah, but I’m the wiser one.”
He scoffed but let her continue.
“Right, so you’re close enough to twenty-one that I’m willing to turn a blind eye to you having a little to drink, but there’s no way you’re getting anywhere past tipsy, understand?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She smiled at that.
“Alright, then. Rule number three, and this is an important one, Nico: I swear to God, if a cute boy starts flirting with you, you are absolutely required to flirt back.”
Nico frowned, pulling his jacket tighter around himself.
“Oh, don’t give me that look, you’re lucky I’m going easy on you.”
“Easy?” Nico asked, incredulously.
“Yes, if I were a little bit meaner then I’d require that you be the one to initiate the flirting.”
Nico just shook his head. “Fine, whatever.”
Hazel grinned, unbuckling her seatbelt. “Good! Let’s go!”
Nico shoved his hands deep into his pockets as he approached the big house where the party was. He still wasn’t entirely sure who actually owned the place and was hosting the party, yet he couldn’t find it in himself to care all that much either.
“Okay, are you going to be fine on your own or do I need to supervise you?” Hazel asked once they’d reached the door. She opened it to reveal more noise than Nico had expected, even considering how much of it had bled through the walls into the air outside.
“Hazel, I’m twenty years old.”
“Yet you still act like a whiny baby.”
“Hazel. I’ll be fine on my own.” Despite it being February, the inside of the house was so warm that Nico suddenly regretted wearing a jacket.
“Fine, but you’d better follow the rules mister or else you’ll be stuck here for much longer than an hour.”
“Yes, mom.”
“Okay, I think Frank’s upstairs. Bye! Have fun!” Hazel blew him a kiss as she disappeared into the crowd, the red of her skirt blending in with the similarly colored attire of everyone else at the party.
Nico suddenly felt conscious about his own clothing choice. He wasn’t really one for caring much about the way he looked as he spent most of his time either alone or with the small group of friends that were already familiar with his dark wardrobe. But now he was at a party with people he didn’t know. On Valentine’s Day. Alone.
He suddenly regretted sending Hazel away, but he still figured it was better than third wheeling. He began wandering through the house, looking for other people he knew.
It took him a while to find Jason due to the size of the house but he eventually spotted him on the second floor. His shoulders slumped in relief as he opened his mouth to shout in greeting before stopping suddenly.
Piper wrapped her arms around Jason from behind, happily pulling him across the room. He smiled widely as he followed her, laughing at something she said. She dragged him over to where Percy and Annabeth were talking in the corner, apparently sharing whatever joke she’d told Jason with them. Nico hesitated to join them.
Hazel’s first rule was to try his best to enjoy himself. That sounded fair enough. But did that mean third wheeling (fifth wheeling?) or wandering around with the hope of finding someone else to talk to?
Nico eventually fell back into the shadows, where he’d always felt the most comfortable, and after discovering that he felt infinitely more relaxed, decided that the shadows were going to be the best place for him that night.
Then he remembered Hazel’s second rule.
He made his way back down the stairs in what he was pretty sure was the direction of the kitchen. He’d never really drank before, besides a few sips of wine on New Year’s Eve, and could only hope that he’d look like he’d have any clue what he was doing once he found the keg.
Finding the kitchen wasn’t too difficult considering there was a pretty steady stream of people entering and exiting it. Nico did his best to look like he was experienced when he filled up his plastic cup with lukewarm beer from the huge keg that sat precariously upon a stool in the kitchen. He retreated to the shadows as soon as possible before taking his first sip, grimacing slightly at the bitter taste. He frowned before taking another sip of the cheap beer.
Suddenly, a strong arm was thrown over his shoulder. “Hey, man!” Nico jumped at the unfamiliar voice and sudden physical contact, turning quickly as his drink sloshed over the side of his cup.
Nico suddenly found himself in close proximity to a bright red face with wide, embarrassed blue eyes. The man’s blond hair looked like it hadn’t seen a comb since the dark ages whereas his teeth, which were only barely visible now due to the o-shape his mouth was making, were startlingly white.
And he had Nico’s beer all down the front of his white shirt.
The two of them rushed into a frenzy of apologies, speaking uncomfortably loudly in order to be heard over the music.
“Shit, I’m so sorry, I thought you were a friend,” the blond said. The arm that had previously been over Nico’s shoulder now fidgeted at his side as if he wasn’t quite sure what to do with it.
Nico just shook his head, his eyes on where his beer had made the blond’s shirt stick to his chest. “No, I’m sorry about your shirt, I didn’t mean to―”
The blond grinned at Nico goodnaturedly, waving his hand carelessly. “No, no, this would be my fault,” he said gesturing to his front. “God, I’m such an idiot. I’m a junior, I should know by now not to wear white to parties.”
It suddenly came to Nico’s attention that the rest of the blond’s outfit was extremely colorful. He wore a bandana as a headband―an honest to god bandana―that was bright red with small white hearts scattered across it and bright red jeans to match. Nico didn’t even know jeans could be that color, but there they were and Nico was trying so, so hard not to stare because those pants were not only literally bright red but also rather tight and Nico really did mean to avert his eyes but this boy looked like an honest to god model and Nico had gone and ruined it by spilling his drink on him―
“Hey, you okay?” the blond asked, leaning down slightly to meet Nico’s eyes.
“Yeah, sorry,” Nico answered quickly, shifting his gaze to meet the other boy’s.
Shit.
There was a short moment when neither of them was quite sure what to do or say next, and Nico worried that the blond would leave.
“Do you want to borrow my jacket?” Nico asked suddenly, surprising himself. “To cover up your shirt, I mean.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine,” the other guy answered, rubbing his neck nervously. Nico took that as a sign to back off.
Oh God, did he think I was trying to flirt?
Was I?
“Okay, well, sorry again,” Nico said, backing away. He didn’t hear the other guy’s response over the loud music as he quickly disappeared into the crowd. He checked his phone. Shit. He’d only been at the party for fifteen minutes.
He looked down at the half empty cup of beer in his hand and frowned, leaving it on a table as he went in search of some quiet.
~*~
“Cheater!” Hazel’s voice cried as she burst into the bathroom.
Nico looked up with raised eyebrows. “You know, generally when you knock on a bathroom door and someone says it’s occupied, you aren’t supposed to go in.”
“You are if that someone is being a grump,” Hazel argued, sitting down across from Nico in the bathtub.
“I could have legitimately been taking a piss.”
Hazel rolled her eyes. “Not nearly as likely as you sulking.”
Nico just shook his head, looking down at his phone. “Can we go now?”
“No! You haven’t even followed my first rule.”
“I did for a full fifteen minutes.”
“Oh come on, Nico. You should’ve given yourself a better chance. Jason’s here, you could hang out with him.”
“Jason’s with Piper. I don’t want to third wheel.”
Hazel sighed. “What about my third rule, then? You’re not the only single person here, Nico.”
“You’ll be happy to know that I ran into a very attractive boy. However, I proceeded to spill my drink on him and then make him uncomfortable by offering him my jacket. So yeah, I’m afraid I’ll be spending the next half hour or until you let me leave in here.”
“Oh, Nico,” Hazel sighed, reaching out to pat his knee. “I’m sorry. But it’s not always going to work, you know? That doesn’t mean you should stop trying.”
Nico rolled his eyes. “It never works,” he grumbled. He looked up suddenly, frustration welling up in him. “Why is everyone straight?” he asked exasperatedly. “Why are none of the cute ones ever gay?”
Hazel just smiled. “Well, if you want a better shot at finding a guy, I could arrange for you to go to gay nightclub on your birthday…”
“No. Absolutely not.”
“Then get your butt back out there! If you’re all flirted out, then you can come hang out with me at least. We’ll make Frank third wheel, he won’t mind.”
“No, I think he might.”
“Nope!” Hazel stood up and took Nico’s hand. “Come on, time to go have more fun.”
“I’m having fun right here.”
“Nico, please. It’s like you’re trying to annoy me.”
He let a small grin slip despite his attempts not to. “Only a little.”
Hazel didn’t say a word, just shook her head and grabbed Nico’s hand as she dragged him back out to the party.
~*~
“Oh my god, that’s him,” Nico hissed, gesturing to the blond with his head as Hazel led him across the room.
“Who, Will?” Hazel asked.
The blond―Will―was laughing with Annabeth, still wearing his beer stained shirt. And Hazel was leading Nico straight towards him.
“Hazel, shit, that’s him.”
Her eyes lit up at this as she pulled Nico closer, much to his chagrin. “What the hell are you―” he hissed before Hazel spoke loudly, interrupting him.
“Look who I found!” she exclaimed, dragging Nico over to the group. Nico met Will’s eyes, which were wide and blue above flushed cheeks.
“Hey, Nico, I was wondering where you were!” Jason clapped him on the shoulder and handed him a plastic cup to replace the one he’d set down earlier.
The others greeted him before Annabeth introduced Will. “We had biology together as freshman,” she added as Will nodded at Nico good naturedly, though he fidgeted the same way he had earlier.
Nico looked away, trying to act like he was interested in the conversation Percy and Frank were having while fighting to keep a blush down. God, he felt tired. He just wanted to go home, sleep, and hope that in the morning he’d forget any of his embarrassment that night had ever happened.
“Alright, ladies and gents,” a dramatic voice came over the speakers. Nico looked around before spotting Travis Stoll standing up on the coffee table across the room with a microphone in hand. “It’s that time of night, folks, grab that special someone to dance with and please only do spins and dips if you can trust yourselves not to knock down any more lamps.”
A slow song kicked in, unbelievably cheesy from the very first note and Nico gagged exaggeratedly.
Will laughed and Nico felt a small bit of pride well up in himself.
“Alright, you loners,” Hazel joked good naturedly as she waved Will and Nico in the direction of the big glass doors that led to the back yard. “Get out of here if you’re going to be grumps.” Nico willingly walked over to the doors, but not before Hazel grabbed his arm and quickly hissed in his ear, “Gay, single, unbelievably cute, wants to be a doctor. If you do not leave this party with that boy’s number, I will make your life miserable.” She then pulled back smiling and kissed him on the cheek before heading over to where Frank was standing. “Good luck!”
Nico stood frozen for a short moment before his legs carried him outside. He wasn’t quite sure how it happened but suddenly he was leaning against the porch railing next to Will.
“You know, every time I come to one of these parties, I think, ‘Maybe tonight the slow song will actually be good,’ but it just never is,” Will said, shaking his head. His gaze was trained on the sky and Nico was grateful for the lack of eye contact.
He huffed in agreement. “None of the music they play at these parties is ever good.”
“What, you’re not a Top 40 kind of guy?” Will asked, not unkindly.
“Definitely not.” Nico said it a bit firmer than he meant to and Will laughed.
It was much colder outside than it was inside, not to mention windy, and Will shivered slightly as a cold breeze blew through.
Nico only hesitated a moment before asking, “Are you sure you don’t want my jacket?”
Will retreated back into the nervous persona he’d had when he’d first run into Nico, only this time Nico was able to recognize that it wasn’t flat out discomfort. Will flushed slightly as he rubbed his neck the way he had earlier, biting his lip as he offered Nico a small smile.
Nico was making a cute boy blush. He couldn’t wait to brag to Hazel.
“I don’t know if it’d fit,” Will said, eyes bright despite his fidgeting.
Nico scoffed. “I only ever wear jackets if they’re three sizes too big.” He shrugged it off and handed it over to Will, watching as he put it on.
Nico found himself staring for the second time that evening. His jacket looked like a completely different piece of clothing on Will. Nico had always used it as something to drown in, a wearable safety blanket, but on Will it fit perfectly. His broad shoulders filled the top of the jacket and it fit comfortably on his form, tapering in all the right places.
“Shit,” Nico muttered, which he would insist was an accident if anyone asked.
Will fidgeted again under Nico’s stare, clearing his throat. “Thanks. For the jacket.”
“No problem. I might just let you keep it. You wear it much better than I do.”
Will cleared his throat again but his smiling eyes betrayed his visible nervousness. “I wouldn’t be able to keep it. How would I pay you back?”
Nico shrugged, fighting to keep a smile off his face. “I have a few ideas.”
~*~
“Can we go now?” Nico asked an hour later, pulling Hazel aside. He was completely exhausted.
Hazel’s eyebrows drew together in concern. “Did things not go well with Will?”
Nico held up his phone, displaying the recently added contact. “Well, I wouldn't say that. However, that does nothing to change my energy level, which just reached zero. I don’t care if you’re ready to leave, but I’m taking the car.”
As Hazel rushed after him to bombard him with questions, Nico didn’t bother holding back his smile.

Reversed- Chapter 1
So me and @alexfierrno decided that we would try to make all of you die of the feels by doing a colab so ye here’s chapter one of our Solangelo Angel/Demon AU based on this post. Alex wrote the Nico parts and I wrote the Will parts!!! Um… I think that @dhdrawings and @fangirl6202 wanted to be tagged in it and hope you enjoy!!!!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
~Nico~
He was the worst in existence. No exaggeration. No one even tried to tell him otherwise. Not like they told him, but they all thought it. Angels can’t hide things from each other. It was one of the most awful things about the jobs. The… Openness. He was dark, gloomy, a shadow, and he was in a world where he should’ve been the sun.
People liked the sun, it was bright and noticeable. It was happy and peaceful. He liked the sun, how couldn’t he? It was the sun he was looking at and basking in, before he accidentally saved the princes of halos and sea. Oh gods, it was an accident he’d regret forever. (He couldn’t say ‘till he die, he couldn’t die).
“Yes,” He thought. “I’m going to set a record as the universe’s worst angel ever.” He was the heir of Hell after all. Even if his strangely dark long hair didn’t give it away, or the black soulless eyes, it was his wings weren’t even that bright white they were this ebony black, the feathers of a raven, like some sort of a perpetually teenage Grimm Reaper. Nico Di Angelo, the Haloed Grimm Reaper, the worst angel in existence.
Maybe if his halo hadn’t magically appeared like it normally happens, maybe if he hadn’t been appointed by Zeus himself, they would doubt him. They would kick him out of Heaven and send him back to Hell. It was really Hell to him, it wasn’t like the other h- word - home- either. But nowhere ever was. Maybe home wasn’t a conception a demon born could get. Halo or not. Even when Hazel was born, Nico still felt alone.
“Hey, Di Angelo. Get over here.” Someone called.
“Huh?” Nico stands up, flying at the edge of the clouds, he turned to see Annabeth. One of the better, not necessarily nicer, but better, angels. The average golden haired, gold-skinned, but also incredibly smart.
“Stop flapping those wings of yours and follow me.” Annabeth nodded towards the classic (cliche) pearly gates.
“What’s going on?” He swooping over to the blonde’s side.
“You’re about to find out.” She says, stone-faced.
“I’m not talking to Zeus.” Nico’s eyes go wide and he shakes his head. She turns to look at him with an eyebrow raised,
“C'mon Nicholas.” Annabeth rolls her eyes.
“What did I do…” Nico mutters.
“WHERE IS SHE?” The wind gusted, carrying out a panicked angry voice.
“Hold your electric horse’s Sparks. She’s mine friend too, we’re trying. We can’t just make assumptions.” Annabeth said.
“Who’d they take?” Nico said bored. Knowing how this work.
“His girlfriend. Piper McLean.” Annabeth said.
“Well shit…”
“We have a contact.”
“What?”
“Someone who works for your father.” Pause.
“I didn’t think that was possible…” Nico thought.
“What’s his name?”
“Will Solace.” And now, there I was. And Will Solace happened to have the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen on a demon.
~Will~
Hell. Burning fires, tortured souls, and an inky blackness that should consume you, leaving away nothing but darkened eyes and demented souls. Everything about the afterlife was supposed to be darker than the darkest allies, and this was why I stuck out like a sore thumb.
When you think of a demon, you see what they give you in TV shows and movies. Eyes that are completely black, twisted minds playing cruel jokes, and the urge to kill everything in sight. When I first went downstairs, I thought that they where wrong and nobody did their research correctly. That demons just looked like…. well… people. But then two other demons, I believe their names where Octavian and Luke, where sent to fetch me to see the boss.
They almost scared me to death. Their mouths where twisted into a cruel smirk as they grabbed my shaking arms. Their eyes, just like every TV show I’ve ever watched, where completely black and soulless and they seemed to be made of a darkish smoke. But it didn’t make sense. If I’m supposed to be a demon now, how come my eyes are still blue? How come my skin still shines gold, even with the dark cape around my neck? Why do the shadows shy away for me and why do I cry as I hear another pour soul scream as it’s forced into the shape of another demon?
It never made sense, and I don’t think it ever will. But all I know is that the other demons envy me, and none of them would hesitate to slit my throat. That’s just how it has to be, I guess. They all know that I’m not like them, and I know I’m not like them. I just wish I could drop the act.
“Thank you all for gathering here,” Hades says, standing at the front of the room in his grey suit. His hair is slicked back and his eyes look like they’re sunken, forming dark circles around his eyes that obscure them from view. The overall effect is a little creepy, if I’m being honest, but I guess that’s what you get from the King of the Undead.
I lean against a wall at the back of the room, wrapping my cloak around myself tightly as I try to blend into the shadows. I never really participate in the meetings, sometimes I don’t even show up, but Hades said that this one was mandatory for all demons.
“I’m not sure if any of you have noticed, but recently there has been…. a certain absence from the underworld,” he says coolly and robotically, as if he’s practiced this speech a dozen times before.
“My son vanished a month ago. Nobody really knew how he suddenly…. vanished from the mortal world without a trace, and none of us could figure it out. But, through countless of investigations, torture sessions, and spells, Octavian here has managed to locate him, and it’s not good.”
“Bring her out boys!” The demons in the back open the doors, revealing light. The first thing I see is white feathers coated in blood. I see a girl with dirt smudged all over her face, her hair in messy braids. Her eyes looked wild as they darted frantically around the room, looking for a way out. Rusted chains where clamped around her wrists and the skin was red around them and large, broken wings laid behind her, completely and utterly useless. An angel.
I’ve only ever heard myths about them. It was always cartoon girls with flowing white dresses and halos back when I was above. But now I’ve heard terrible stories of ferocious warriors that would rip any demon to shreds the moment they saw one.
“May I present to you the angel Piper, the prince’s girlfriend.”
“Go to Hell,” she says, her voice raspy.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m already there.” Piper bends down on the ground and coughs up blood. I’m the only one who feels scared for the poor girl.
“Now Piper. Why don’t you tell us all what you told me, hmm?” She looks up at him.
“No.”
“Piper—“
“I said no!” she shouts, causing windows to shatter. Nobody seems fazed.
“Fine then. Would you like my assistant here to pluck each feather one by one off of your pretty wings?” Hades asks. Her lip quivers.
“That’s what I thought. Now tell me, where is my son?”
“The Angels took him! We thought—“
“Well you thought wrong. Kill her.”
“WHAT?” she shrieks. “But you told me–”
“Get the knife.” Her eyes frantically look around the room, seeing who she can kill to get out. My heart (that I shouldn’t even have) clenches at the sight of her, and for the first time in forever, as they raise a silver knife, I speak out.
“STOP!” I say, immediately regretting it as Hades looks at me.
“What is the meaning of this?” he says.
“S-she could be useful still. You said that she’s the prince’s girlfriend. They have to want her back. Maybe we can use her as leverage,” I say, making it up as I go. Hades seems to consider this, then a wicked grin crosses his lips.
“Yes. Put her back in her cell.” The demons yank her chains, taking her away again. I let out a breath that I didn’t know I was holding, and try to act like nothing happened.
“We cannot let the Angels get away with this. I declare war!” Hades says, fires lighting in his eyes.
“Meeting adjourned.” The room is silent as the demons leave. There is no chatter, there is no discussion, there is no argument. All of them are like mindless zombies, only there to serve Hades and Hades alone, and I hate it.
“Solace. Stay back. I want to speak with you.” Frick.
“You aren’t like the others, are you?” Hades says, messing with some papers.
“What do you mean?” I say, gulping.
“I mean, look at you. Your eyes aren’t coal and your skin isn’t smoke. You still look, almost human. You could be very useful.”
“How?” This doesn’t look good. This doesn’t look good at all.
“I have a plan, and it requires you and our dear little angel.”
“What? You mean Piper?”
“Exactly!”
“What do you want us to do exactly.”
“I want you to help her escape.”
“What? But sir, why would you want that?”
“I want you to get yourself up to Heaven and tell them that you know where she is, and you want to help.” I nod my head, my brow furrowed.
“They should believe you because you look more like them.” I cock my head.
“I want you to spy on them. Act like you’re an ally, and report back to me with what you found out. Can you do that?”
“Yes but–”
“Will you do whatever it takes to get my son back and slaughter every single one of them?”
“I…. yes. I will.”
