#i'll be fine with actual sleep but a nap wasn't enough
Text
Pac wakes to the sound of someone stumbling into the room. Fit, just the other side of the bed, is awake but not moving; he follows his lead.
"Fuck!" it's Mike, it's only Mike, but he sounds terrible. "Fucking shit!"
There's the sound of Mike kicking the box he just walked into, and that's when Pac acts. He leaves Fit's arms, rolling over and flicking on the light.
"Mike?" he asks, rubbing sleep from an eye. "What's wrong?"
He's drunk. Pac can easily see that Mike is drunk, from the way he sways slightly and the slur in his voice. Richarlyson pops up beside him - Pac gestures for his son to go put himself to bed.
Richarlyson doesn't move immediately, but Mike does.
"Pac?" Mike asks. "Are you-?"
Despite the alcohol, there's a break in Mike's voice; Pac stands, and walks over, and pulls him into a hug.
"You're fucking drunk, bro," Pac says. "What's wrong?"
"He killed me," Mike replies, drunken rage quickly shifting to alcohol-fueled sobs. "He killed me!"
Pac clutches Mike a bit tighter, tugs him over to the bed. Fit has sat up, now, making room for them both.
"Who killed you?" Pac asks, even as he sits and forces Mike to curl at is side. "Mike, who hurt you?"
"Naked Slenderman," Mike hiccups, pulling more wine from his inventory; Pac is tempted to steal it, but knows already how that ends. "We were trying to banish him, but he locked us all in the Freddy Restaurant. Took people out one by one until it was just me, then he put this skull down and then this red axe-"
The shaking and tears take over. Pac himself is shaking too, clutching Mike a bit closer. Fit looks over from his comms, probably reading a surely mangled translation, and raises an eyebrow.
Pac shakes his head - not now.
Fit nods and quietly adds, "you're safe here, Mike; I'll just put Richas to bed."
The boy is not thrilled to be sent away with one dad still sobbing, but Fit herds him out anyway. There's a sign left behind, one reading 'Chayanne got back in and got him up. Ramon and I looked after him.'
Pac makes a note to thank the children in the morning; for now it's better they sleep.
He can't fix this - he can't. He doesn't understand the naked slenderman, for all it stalks and terrified him too. In the lamplight, in the night...
Pac hopes Fit is back soon, because he is definitely also scared.
"I think it's the guard I killed," Mike whispers. "I tried to give him back his badge, and he just sealed me in the sewer."
"The sewer?" Pac asks, before he remembers the teenage mutant ninja turtles area of the lower backrooms.
Mike nods, and whimpers, "once I lined up the photos the exit came back."
"Fuck," Pac replies, because what else can he say. "I won't let him get you Mike."
"I don't think you have a choice," Mike replies. "He's powerful. He's so powerful, Pac, he just dragged us around and not even Dapper's ritual could stop him! Dapper told me to start praying and I did and he killed me!"
"Does it still hurt?" Pac asks, because sometimes it does. He wants to help, to comfort, but his brain feels filled with fog.
A nod against his ribs; Pac pulls the blankets up to hide Mike, and holds him even closer.
"We can try new enchantments on your armour," Pac suggests. "Maybe...?"
Mike shakes his head - still drunk, still inconsolable, "one hit Pac! All my armour shattered and he killed me! We can't win. We can't win. He's going to take us!"
The hopelessness is in Pac's soul too - he pulls the blankets even higher, hiding himself as well.
"Even if he hurts us, we'll come back," Pac promises instead. "We always come back, always get out - no escape is impossible, remember? We just have to work it out."
Mike cries and trembles, and Pac continues to console him. While Mike stays hidden Pac's eyes flicker out, searching every corner of the room. He doesn't see it - there's no white, nothing like that, not again, but he can't help it! Even as he promises Mike they'll be okay his own heart rate picks up, searching out the creature - ghost perhaps - with a vendetta against him and his friend.
The door opens, and Pac shrieks.
Mike's sobs grow more desperate, clinging tighter as he does.
"Calm, calm," Fit uses a few of the Portuguese words he knows. "Just me. Richarlyson is asleep."
"Thank you, Fit," Pac replies on instinct, as he remembers how to breathe.
"You good?" is the reply.
Pac... Pac switches to English, because he wants Fit to understand. "Naked Slenderman is after Mike. It kidnapped him and killed him and kidnapped him again. I've seen it too - at the museum. We think it's after us."
He half expects teasing, but Fit's face turns serious.
"Let's push the bed against the wall. Pac? You go the far side. Mike in the middle. I'll guard the outside - the wall should guard your back."
It's better then just pretending to be a pile of blankets; Pac nods, and quickly translates the plan for Mike. Mike's English is just as good as his, but scared out of his mind... It's better, to be sure; Pac's struggling enough himself, and he's not the one who was stabbed.
It takes less convincing than Pac expected to convince Mike into pajamas. It's only as Pac remembers that, of course, Mike's armour was ruined and so he's just as vulnerable in all states.
Pac slips a few diamonds and enchantment books into Mike's backpack, just to be sure he'll be able to replace it in the morning. It might not be the best as Etoiles would define it, but it'll make something as good as is reasonable.
It is as Mike is being helped into something more comfortable - still clinging to Pac with every opportunity even if he is quieter now - that Fit shoves the bed to the wall, and Pac notices the new scar on Mike's chest.
A giant cleave, from the hollow of his shoulder all the way to his thigh and, damn, that's a painful way to die.
A painful way to die, and a horrific injury to survive.
Pac can imagine Mike on the floor, bleeding and in agony, screaming and calling for help in a sealed up room, pain blinding his senses until only a child can make it through a slowly widening hole to save him, anyone else too large - Mike screaming for Chayanne to get to safety instead, more willing to die than let a child be harmed... As soon as he thinks Mike will let him, Pac pulls him into the tightest hug he can manage, and onto the bed.
Mike stinks of cheap wine and other alcohol, but he's still Mike - he's Mike, he's Mike, he's /always/ Mike.
Fit leaves on the light as he comes to bed, pulling the blankets up over all three of them. Rolling onto his side he reaches across Mike to rest his hand on Pac's shoulder, and curls his body protectively around Mike's back.
Mike's safe now, or as safe as he can be - Pac shields his front and Fit his behind. They both hold him tight, secure he can't be taken.
"I've got you," Pac whispers the promise in soft Portuguese. "He won't take you from me."
Mike just nods against his chest.
"Good night Pac, good night Mike," offers Fit. "Sleep well."
Pac appreciates the sentiment, but doubts either of them will ever sleep again.

Parenting 101
Enter gojo and geto pre-scenting items for their new pup
Warnings: omegaverse, toddler/Newborn reader, mentions of infertility, family Fluff. Worried Suguru, Gender Neutral reader, No one dies AU, modern AU
Tumblr media
Did Suguru need to use Satoru's card and basically buy a whole store?
No.
But it wasn't like Satoru was going to complain or pay for it, that's the Gojo's Clan problem, plus they wouldn't care as long as it was for pup stuff.
“Papa, can we get McDonald's-”.
“I want a happy meal!”.
“No, I want KFC!!”.
“But we had that yesterday Mimiko-”.
Suguru pinched his nose, “no one is getting anything unless you start acting right, we are in the middle of the mall. Also it's almost dinner time, We have food at home”.
The four pups looked at Suguru wide eyed.
Megumi was starting to pout, the four year old's lip quivered, his milky scent quickly turning sour, Tsumiki noticed quickly, “Geto-san, Megumi is crying”.
Suguru sighed, picking up Megumi and pulling him into his neck. “Girls. Can you please grab the bags, we are going home”.
‘One more can't hurt he said, one more every time’
Satoru was currently at home with a lady that was currently filling out paperwork for a house study.
“So, Gojo-san. Four pups, you and your mate want one more?”.
Satoru huffed, “we… always wanted a big family…”
“How charitable-”
“Listen, can't you accept that we might actually like kids and want to have a loving family? we aren't in this for the money or tax benefits”.
The beta sighed, “Well… the house is big enough. Has enough bedrooms and bathrooms and I've already spoken to your mate and children the day before, I'll contact you when we find a good fit”.
Satoru sighed in relief. “Thank you so much”.
On cue, a tired Suguru, a sleeping Megumi and three rowdy girls walked into the house, “We're home!!”.
Satoru jumps up immediately, taking Megumi from Suguru, “Go rest hon, I've got it from here”. Suguru nods before dragging himself upstairs.
“Papa lied! There isn't any food!” Mimiko slammed the fridge-door.
Satoru nervously laughed, “she's joking”.
The beta woman raised an eyebrow, “here's my card info and the case number”. She says her goodbyes and leaves.
“Girls-”.
“I want KFC!!”
“Dad-”
“Gojo-san-”
“GIRLS!” Suguru yelled.
The three girls got quiet looking at Suguru who stood at the end of the stairs, “rooms now”.
The girls hurried to their rooms, leaving Megumi, who was napping on the couch.
“Is everything okay babe?”
Suguru sighed, “I'm just… nervous, stressed and overstimulated”.
Satoru wrapped Suguru in a tight hug, “it's going to be okay, we've done great with the other four, a newborn isn't any different”.
‘Isn't any different’. Suguru scoffed, when they took in Megumi and Tsumiki, Megumi needed to be potty trained and Tsumiki needed help brushing her teeth daily. Suguru sighed, “are we actually ready to have a newborn?”
Satoru shrugged, “I think so, I mean, the parenting books say we are ready”.
Suguru's eye twitched, “oh so what does the parenting say to do now”. He points up the stairs where the girls are eavesdropping. “Do we give in and buy KFC because I'm not touching a stove tonight-”.
“I'll cook”.
“You cannot cook”.
“Um… ramen?”.
Suguru sighed, “fine”.
As Satoru boiled water in the electric kettle, Suguru tended to the nursery, scenting all the blankets, pillows and stuffed animals that were being prepped for their newborn.
Suguru stared at the mountain of blankets, something felt off, nothing felt right.
Satoru interrupted his thoughts, “knock knock, are you feeling any better?”.
“I'm just….nervous. This is the first time We can scent anything for the pup. We couldn't do it for the other four, I didn't want to overwhelm them. Now I can scent-”.
“You're making yourself sick worrying like this, you'll be fine, they'll be fine”.
Suguru handed a blanket for Satoru to smell.
“We'll make sure they are loved”.

Part 1 - Why you out of everyone?
This is the first part of my story, there are no extremely sensitive topics so the only tw is swearing.
Hope you enjoy💞
Word count: 1,000+
You were new in Kortac, a newbie. You joined not because you wanted to serve the country and all of that bullshit, no, you joined because that was the only shelter you could find. No family, no friends, no one.
You socialised with pretty much everyone, despite your young age no one saw that as a problem. You talked and joked with everyone, everyone beside the colonel. König.
He hated you, he hated the fact that you weren't as skilled as the others, that you wasn't as agile and strong as the others, that you were, oh, so young. And most of all he hated that joined the army under his same circumstances, being left alone against the world.
Everything was going fine, you and König ignored and avoided each other for god's sake, and that was a good thing actually, no arguments and yelling in the corridors or the headquarters.
One day, though, the captain calls you to his office and there you find him, you start fuming but try not to make a scene in front of the captain, so you take a seat next to the colonel, in silence.
The captain slides across the table a picture, "you two will be sent to Bruxelles, it's a very important mission." "Your first" says as he points at you, "with this we'll decide whether or not your worth keeping."
"And another one for you, colonel." says as he points at König.
"I know you two aren't on the best of terms, but this is important for the squad." He sternly says. "Besides... It's 7 months that you'll spend in the same house, I bet you'll become best friends by then." He sarcastically teases the both of you.
You don't say anything and just look at the flyer he'd given you, it's a pretty cottage in the woods, the one you've always dreamed of... But then you remember his words. 7 months with König, the house might be one from your dreams, but everything that ocmes with it is straight out of a nightmare.
Since you were a mere soldier every single one of your protests won't have any effect on the captain's decision, so you hope that König will say something, that he'll argue to be put with someone else. But no, he just nods and gets up.*
"I'll prepare my luggages then." König finally speaks, his tone colder than ice, yet somewhat calm.
You don't say anything and stand up as well, then head to your room and begin to pack your stuff. In no time you're put in a flight to Bruxelles and at the arrival you're given a car, nothing old nor fancy, enough to make you unrecognizable to the eyes of citizens, and the enemy, of course.
From where you land to the house there's an hour and a half in car, and it feels like an eternal hell, bound in the same plane, now the same car, and for months under the same roof.
For the whole ride you think back at the captain's word... "You might be sent away for so much time, but until the enemy doesn't move, you stay at home and don't make yourself visible more than what you should.", "You'll grow to, well, maybe not love each other, but at least there won't be any yelling in the middle of the night 'jusy because'."
Then the car stops, you look at the house you previously saw in a photo, you get your luggages and get inside.
The house is well fornitured and very aesthetic, just like you imagined.
You take a look around walk down an isle, on the sides there are two bedrooms, and you choose the bigger one.
You quickly put all your stuff away, take out one of your biggest teddy bears and collapse on the bed, taking a nap.
König explores the house a little later than you, he peeks through the room and sees that you've already fallen asleep in one, the bigger one, without even talking about it first so he curses at you. "Little bitch, always getting what you want." he sighs in frustration "even sleeps with stuffed animal, such a child!" He whisper-yells to himself, your sight alone pissing him off.
He walks away from your door and gets into the other rooms, he also puts his stuff away and drops on the bed, falling into a deep sleep.
After some time you feel refreshed and yku wake up, when you check the time it's 7.34pm so you decide to make something for dinner.
You get up and as you walk out of your room you see that the door to König's room is wide open and you see that he's sleeping peacefully. You don't say anything and just walk away.
You get to the kitchen and start to boil some water, then cook the pasta and make a sauce. You plate the food and hesitantly walk to his room again.
"König... I made dinner, come eat. You haven't eaten anything all day." You almost whisper, your tone caring, hiding the hatred you feel for him.
After a couple of seconds he turns around, the muscles on his bare back flexing with every movement, and looks at you perplexed, "I'm coming." He mutter as he tried to get up.
So after some time you two are in the kitchen, eating together, in complete silence.
When you're almost done eating, you're phone starts to buzz, someone's calling you under the name of "love", and König can't help but look at the screen. "Who is she calling love?" He thinks to himself, questioning the girl in front of him.
You excuse yourself and pick up, walking out of the kitchen and into a more closed space.
"Heyy, how are you??" You say, a female voice excitedly replies "good y/n, and you? We haven't talked in AGES!!" She quickly muttere, happy to hear from her best friend again.
"Nothing much." You reply, "I've been assigned a mission and I i have to share a house with him. You say rolling your eyes.*
Your best friend bursts out laughing from the other side of the phone and begins to rant about how unlucky you are.
You two laughed together at the whole situation and even made a little harsh comments... all without noticing that König was in fact behind you, listening at the whole conversation.

Let Sleeping Bears Lie
Madeline had been gone for a while...did something happen to her?
She probably just got distracted. It was like her to take off the second they got to the campsite- leaving Ruya alone to actually set up the camp. They sighed, while the help would've been appreciated...a trip out to the National Park was something she wanted for the longest time. Nature photography was her thing...now that the camp was set up, now was a good time to look for her. She said she was taking the easternmost trail...
Ruya picked up their bag and hit the trail, helpfully marked for visitors. The parks were certainly beautiful, but they didn't doubt there were dangers here. They had read up on them beforehand- landslides, getting stranded, wild animal attacks...this park had a notable "attraction" they were worried about. Ashford, some kind of man-bear thing notorious for charming visitors out of their food...they wouldn't be surprised if he also charmed visitors into being food, too. Can't ever trust a bear...
Hopefully Madeline was just taking pictures of a creek or something. Ruya crossed over one that cut through the trail, when a deep rumbling sound caught their attention. They weren't near any cliffs so it couldn't be a rockslide, and it couldn't be an earthquake...it sounded much more like someone snoring. Could there be people camping off the trails? They moved to investigate, hopefully one of them had seen Madeline! It's only been about an hour, these people were likely already here...
The direction the sound was coming from led Ruya to a glade, but there wasn't a camp here. Lying asleep in a sunbeam was a huge, furry brown beartaur, rolled over onto his back and snoring deeply. His stomach on his human half looked VERY full, wriggling and squirming with clearly lively prey. Nearby on the ground was a familiar object, and Ruya's heart dropped.
"MADELINE!" Throwing all caution and the things they learned to the wind, Ruya rushed over to the beartaur. Pressing their hands into his stomach, they tried to feel around for her. "Are you okay?! I'm gonna get you out of there, okay...! I promise!"
Though her words were muffled by the taur's fat and noisily working stomach, she seemed well enough to try to respond. Ruya was too busy pushing around and trying to come up with a plan that they didn't notice that all the activity was starting to wake the sleeping predator. Their efforts were halted by a grunt and low growl, and they froze in place as the bear slowly rolled over, sitting up with his bear half laying down. He blinked blearily down at Ruya, taking in their features and panicked expression.
"...mmh. You're not a ranger. Whaddaya want? Trying to sleep, here..."
"Y-you...!! You ate my friend! Spit her out now! Or I'll...!" Ashford tilted his head, still not fully awake to process what was going on. He looked down at his full stomach, letting out a quiet belch as his meal kicked around. "Oh. That uh, wasn't in there when I went to sleep. That your friend? Must've been sleep eating again. Sorry."
"YES! Let her go, you monster! This was supposed to be the perfect trip for her...!" They push against his stomach again, which only stirred up a burp. Ashford's ears went a bit flat in irritation. "She'll be fine, relax...taking a nap on a full belly feels real nice, so can I get back to sleep? Geez, don't the rangers teach you people anything?" He grumbled, already trying to lay back down. Ruya wasn't having any of it, and while it annoyed Ashford greatly...he wasn't going to hurt them. He had another idea, anyhow...
"Ugh, fine. You want her back so bad? Help me out." His bear half sat up now, leaving Ruya with their face full of his gurgling belly. "Push right there for me, won't ya? It'll help me bring her up faster." Ruya was quick to obey, pushing their hands into Madeline from the outside. After a few pushes his stomach burbled loudly, but he didn't look like he was bringing her up...instead, the movements she was making started to sink downwards. Ruya watched Ashford's belly shrink, with Madeline's body sliding deep into his lower half's stomach and filling it out. She was much harder to see and hear now, barely making any bumps in his stomach.
"H-huh...?"
Ashford grinned, leaning down to the black-haired human. "Hasn't anyone told you to let sleeping bears lie? You and your friend are learning that lesson firsthand...but hey! I'm a nice guy! I'll let you two hang out together while I take a nice long nap, and you can think about not bugging me while I sleep. Deal? Deal!"
Before they could reply or even try to run, Ashford lunged forward and caught their head right in his maw. Strong arms pinned their arms to their sides, leaving them to helplessly kick and wiggle as he sampled their flavor for a moment. Digging their knees into his fat stomach did nothing to help their situation, leaving them helpless as he started to swallow. Thick, powerful gulps pulled them into his throat, and his hands only fed them deeper inside. The taur's heartbeat echoed around them as his swallows continued, eventually pushing them into his empty, first stomach. It was a tight fit, they were taller than Madeline- they were forced to curl up as his stomach almost smugly gurgled around them.
"Mm, you weren't half bad. Come poke me again sometime, aye? Bring your friend too, I didn't exactly get to taste her n' all..." Ruya's world rocked as he flopped over, rolling back over to catch the sun now that both bellies were full. Ruya kicked and punched at the walls, which got no reaction outside of a voice from the lower stomach.
"Ruya? Ruya! Hey, did you bring my camera in with you? I dropped it, wasn't expecting him to clamp down on my hand in his sleep...this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, I want to take some pictures of a beartaur's stomach!"
"...you mean you WANTED this?! You're totally fine with just, being swallowed up??"
"Uh, yeah? I'm perfectly fine! This is just a part of nature, I'm getting the closest look ever! My phone camera isn't getting good shots, so...is that a no? You don't have it? They needed to stop taking her places.

It was... really cold without the walls of the ranch to hold back the night.
Jimmy curled up tighter in the still-half-standing corner of the main building, the comforting shuffle of the cows on the other side of the gate keeping him from feeling quite so miserable. He was shivering from the tips of his floppy ears to the tuft of his tail, and was strongly considering moving into the stall with the cows... but the faint smell of manure wrinkled his nose and he just tugged his jacket up around his ears, wrapping his arms around his torso. The cows were warm, sure, but he had no desire to sleep in a cow patty.
Man, he was cold though.
This was probably definitely entirely his fault. He wasn't sorry about stealing Scar's horse -- that had been hilarious and well deserved. But... he really did feel bad about the ranch. He hadn't realized until Tango ran headlong into the flames how much the blazeborn actually like... cared about the place. It wasn't a gorgeous build or anything, after all. Tango himself had mocked how "amazing" it was. But... I mean, it was ours, ya know? There weren't many things one could lay a claim to in these death worlds, as transient as they were.
Jimmy's mind flickered back to a flower valley and an angered king... He had a habit of bringing disaster to the homes others built.
He shivered again, a draft needling in through a gap in the planks and cutting across his back.
"Jimmy."
He quickly closed his eyes and tried to relax. He didn't... he didn't want Tango to talk to him. Scold him, comfort him, tease him or act like it didn't matter -- he just wanted to sleep.
"Jimmy, I know you're awake. What are you, four years old?"
Reluctantly, Jimmy opened his eyes and looked across the room -- what was left of it -- at Tango. The blazeborn was leaning back against the opposite wall, a pillager banner draped over his knees and his arms crossed over his chest.
"Sorry," he said, the word coming automatically to his lips.
"Sorry for what?" Tango's voice pitched high, incredulous. "For being awake?"
"For, ya know..." Jimmy untucked one arm to gesture at the roofless structure around them. "This."
Tango waved dismissively. "We'll fix it," he said. "Make it better. And then we'll go burn Scar to the ground -- it's all good." Most of the anger was gone from his face, but at the name "Scar," Jimmy saw a flicker of red pass over Tango's eyes. It was gone in an instant, though, and Tango tilted his head questioningly.
"You're cold," he said. It wasn't a question, but Jimmy hesitated before answering anyway.
"...Yeah, a bit," he admitted. "It's fine, though."
"Nah, nah, nah -- you're keeping me awake, cowboy." Tango lifted the banner and made a little hey get over here motion with his hand. "C'mere before you shiver hard enough to call up the warden."
Jimmy blinked at him for a moment. "What?"
"Look, I'm basically a walking space heater." Tango's impatient voice was offset by the little grin that quirked the corner of his mouth. "Anyway if you catch a cold I get a sore throat too and that I will make you sorry for."
Jimmy hesitated a moment longer... then pushed himself up from the corner and crossed the room, sliding down the wall to sit at Tango's side. Even from half a block away, he could feel the warmth radiating off his partner.
"Thanks," he started to say -- and then tensed when Tango scooted closer and threw one arm around his shoulders.
"Don't make it weird," Tango said with a grin, giving Jimmy's hair a rough tousle. "But also, you're welcome."
He flopped his head back against the wooden walls of the house and closed his eyes, heaving a long sigh. "Sleep tight, Jimmy."
For a long moment, Jimmy could only sit, tense, under the weight of Tango's arm. But the long day was catching up with him, and as Tango's fiery warmth sank into his bones, he found his eyes drifting shut.
Just a nap, he told himself. Just to warm up. Then I'll go back to my spot...
And if morning found them both passed out, half slumped against a charred wall, with Jimmy's head drooping against Tango's shoulder... well. At least it wasn't a cow patty.

Summary: Eddie's trying to build a friendship. But quickly wants more.
Part 2: No doubt about it.
The next morning he woke up in a good mood. He turned around and Chrissy wasn't there.
" Hey Chris? Where are you?" He called down the hall.
" In the kitchen."
He smiled and jogged over. He went to her and tried to kiss her.
" N-no Ed." She pushed him away. "You'll mess up my lipstick."
"Oh common Chris. I miss you. And you look so pretty today."
She gave him a thin lip smile and kissed his cheek. " I gotta go."
He looked at his watch. " This early? Where are-"
" I have a breakfast date. Then I'm going to work."
Eddie watched her grab her purse and head towards the door.
" Don't wait up." She said right before she closed the door.
He sighed. Where was the girl who loved to be in his arms? The one who couldn't get enough of his lips?
Deep down he knew that the relationship was over. But he refused to accept that. He still loved her. And he wanted to make things work. He just didn't know how.
Later that day he wanted to see you. Fortunately for him, he didn't have the right part for your car so he had to drop you off last night. Your house was small. But nice. And seeing in at night made it look kinda haunted. Well to him that is. But when he pulled up that afternoon, he saw that it was actually painted a charcoal gray. With a black door. It looked nothing like how your colorful self was. But surprisingly it was more like him. He liked it. Actually loved it. The front yard was big and had a tire swing. The wrap around porch was incredibly nice. He could picture you sitting out there, drinking lemonade and reading or listening to music. The thought made him smile. And secretly wished he could sit next to you. Holding your hand.
He quickly shook off the thought and jumped out of his van. He walked towards your garage that was wide open. That's when you came up from the basement. Holding a laundry basket on your hip. You looked amazing. Sure you were in black tights and a gray shirt with the sleeves cut off. With your hair in a crazy messy bun. Nothing fancy. Just comfy. You looked great though.
" Hey bud. Uhhh whatcha doing here?"
" H-hey sweetheart. Umm I uhh." He scratched the back of his head and nervously laughed. "Wanted to see if you wanna grab lunch… with me?"
You pressed your lips together and gave him a 'no' look, that made him feel so stupid and a bit bummed.
" That sounds great. I would love to."
He raised his brows and was surprised.
" But…"
Of course there's a but.
" It's cool. Sorry I-I shouldn't have come." He turned around to leave.
" Eddie?" You softly said.
He stopped. His name never sounded so good coming out of someone's mouth before.
"I was going to say I would like to. I'm kinda babysitting right now…my niece is here. She's actually napping right now. But she will be up soon."
He turned around. " Oh. I'm sorry. I hope I wasn't being too loud."
You laughed. " Please. That girl can sleep through a marching band in her room."
He grinned. " So can I."
" Awe. then you two would get along just fine."
You guys stood there quiet again. But it was nice. Like the silence didn't need to be filled with nonsense.
" So umm if you're okay with Mac and cheese and dino nuggets. We could still have lunch." You offered.
He licked his lips. Trying so hard to not show you how excited he was to say yes.
" That sounds amazing actually. Do you have juice boxes?"
You nodded. " Those are for my niece though…However, I do have my own personal stash of Capri sun's that I may or may not be willing to share."
He laughed and looked at the ground.
" Common bud."
He glanced at you and you nodded towards the door.
Doing a slight bow, he held out his arm. "After you."
He followed you up the 4 steps and was immediately hit with the smell of cookies. His mouth instantly watered.
" Jesus. It smells so good in here."
You put the laundry basket in the next room and came back.
" Thanks. Just making some cookies for later."
Eddie looked around the kitchen and smiled at all the cow decor. It was very cute.
" Uhh yeah." You said when you noticed him looking. " I have a thing for cows."
He clicked his tongue. " I see."
You tilted your head and narrowed your eyes at him. " Are you judging me?"
He smirked at you and held up his hands. " No. Not at all. Cows are cool."
" Uh-huh."
He chuckled to himself and watched you pull out stuff for lunch.
" Do-do you need help?"
You looked over your shoulder. " No thanks bud. I-"
A little voice cut you off.
" Tee, I'm hungry."
Eddie looked over and saw a little girl with messy brown hair rubbing her eyes.
" Hi sleepyhead. Good afternoon baby."
Eddie watched your face light up when you went to her. You picked her up and put her on your hip.
" I'm getting lunch ready right now baby. I'll be done in a few minutes."
She nodded and pointed at him.
" You want to say hi?" You asked.
Eddie smiled and waved at her while you put her down. Holding her hand.
" This is my friend Eddie. Eddie, this is my niece Natalie."
He looked at you before he squatted and held out his hand for her.
" It's nice to meet you princess."
His heart melted right away when she grabbed his hand with both of her tiny ones and flipped it around. Her eyes got so big when she saw his rings. She then met his gaze and reached for his hair.
" Your hair is pretty."
" Aww thank you princess. I like your hair too."
Natalie giggled and gave him a hug. He looked up at you to silently ask if it was ok that he hugged her back.
" It's okay. She doesn't bite. Just really friendly."
He gave her a hug. " Is that right? Just like your aunt huh?"
Natalie pulled away and ran to another room. She came back with a handful of toys.
" Want to play dolls?" She asked.
" Oh baby. Eddie doesn't-"
" I would love to." He gave you a big ass smile before grabbing her hand and leading her to the living room.
As he played with Natalie. He kept stealing glances at you. When you would catch him you would make him blush from the look of joy on your face.
After lunch all of you watched a movie.
" Is Bud gonna take us to the park now?"
Eddie turned his head towards you.
" Oh no baby. I told you we can't go today because I don't have my car."
"What park?" He asked.
" Umm, just one on the other side of Hawkins. Near Forest Hills. They have-"
" Water fountains."
" Yeah." You furrowed your brow. " How-"
" I used to live out there…if you want, I can take you guys."
Natalie jumped up. " Yes! Please, please! Tee please!"
" I-." You grabbed her and placed her on your lap. " Bud, you don't have to. I can take her another time."
Without thinking he grabbed your hand. " Let me take you guys for ice cream and then we can work off the sugar there."
You looked down at his hand and then at Natalie. She was giving you a pout.
" Okay. Let's go."
Eddie had never felt this way before. Sitting there watching you and Natalie sharing an ice cream. Laughing and making random noises. It was something he wanted all the time. You were sweet with her. So loving and happy. It was a side of you he was falling for. Though he knew he shouldn't. He did. And he didn't want to fight it.
When he took you guys to the park he raced Natalie to the water. But before they took off Natalie started to count."One…twooooo…..five."
He looked at you and grinned.
That's where you got it from.
The laughter you made from him figuring it out made his heart skip.
Once you put down the stuff, you came and picked up Natalie. Spinning her around and wetting her a bit.
She squealed and you put her down. She then quickly ran and hid behind him.
" Help me bud." She pleaded.
He put his hand on her head. " Don't worry princess. I'll protect you."
When you came towards them he grabbed your hand and started pulling you towards the water. Your's and Natalie's giggles sounded angelic to him. The sun was envious of how brightly you smiled.
" Oh my God!" You yelped as he held you over a fountain.
Getting you and him completely soaked. Both uncontrollably laughing. After a minute there was this moment where you looked at him and he looked at you. Without a word being said he knew you wanted what he wanted. More days like this. With each other.
As you guys went back to the house, you offered to dry his clothes for him while you gave Natalie a bath. He of course agreed. Not wanting one of the best days of his life to be over just yet.
When Natalie was squeaky clean, you took a quick shower too. After, you asked if he would like to join you guys for dinner. Which he did. Before he knew it, it was almost 9. Natalie was in bed and he was sitting with you on the couch.
" You're really good with her."
You took a sip of water and nodded. " Yeah. I guess you can say I love her."
He grinned. " I hope so."
You let out a small nose laugh.
" So uhh. Tee?"
You grinned putting your cup on the coffee table. " Yeah. She had trouble saying auntie. So she's called me Tee since she could talk."
" That's cute. But do you ever get a day off?" He asked.
" What do you mean?"
He looked at his lap. " I just mean. You have 3 jobs and you babysit. Don't you ever just get a day to relax?"
You put your legs on the couch and covered them with a blanket. Turning your body towards him. " This is how I spend my days off. This or spend a few hours at the lake with friends. But whenever I can, I try to spend time with Natalie…she umm…she lost her mom when she was one. I try to be that womanly figure in her life. And well she's really fun to be around. So I would take a day with her than have a day all alone. "
" That's sweet."
" I try."
Eddie and you grinned at each other. A few seconds passed by when you grabbed his hand.
" Thanks Eddie. You made Natalie's day. I haven't seen her that happy in a really long time."
His grin turned into a soft smile. " It was a pleasure. Honestly, I haven't had that much fun in a while too."
You gasped and pulled your hand away. " What about the lake? I thought we had a great time."
He shook his head. " No. That was a good day too. Just today was better."
You beamed at him. " I guess you can say I'm pretty awesome."
" I could. But I won't." He joked
You gasped again. " Alright. Break a lady's heart."
It happened again. That moment. But this time it felt like you wanted him to kiss you. Should he? Would you be okay with it?
Chrissy...
He cleared his throat and got up. " I uhh better head out. I want to make sure your part comes in tomorrow."
The look on your face broke his heart. It was fast but he saw what looked a lot like disappointment. But within a blink of an eye. You were smiling again.
While walking him to the door, he thanked you for lunch and dinner.
Before he left you called out his name.
" Yeah sweetheart?"
" Umm do you want to hang out sometime?"
His heart jumped. " Yeah. Definitely."
" How about next Saturday?"
He wanted to say yes. More than anything in the world. But he had plans. With Chrissy.
" Umm could you maybe do Sunday?" He asked. Praying you would say yes.
You hummed and crossed your arms. " Yeah. I think I can do that. We could go to this thing I heard about. It's called Age of Horror. The theater shows all the horror/slasher films all day."
Eddie could have ran and hugged you. He always wanted to go to that. But he didn't want to go alone. And Chrissy hated scary movies.
" Absolutely! I love horror movies."
" Cool. I'll see you then bud."
"Looking forward to it...Goodnight y/n."
"Night."
When he got home he threw himself on the bed and smiled at the ceiling. He closed his eyes and saw you. He replayed the whole day over again. Wishing he could do it again tomorrow.
Why did he feel like this so fast? Why were you just so…perfect and beautiful? How was it he didn't meet you sooner?
Why couldn't I've met you before-
He opened his eyes and shook the thought away. No way should he want to have met you before Chrissy. But he wanted to. He really wanted to.
Having enough of his selfishness he hopped in the shower.
" Ed?"
" Chris?"
He took a couple of steps back as Chrissy climbed in the shower with him.
" Hi Ed…I'm so sorry about yesterday."
He gave her a thin lip.
" I canceled my date to make it up to you."
Gee thanks.
"It's fine Chris. I'm kinda tired."
He watched her get down on her knees and grab him. Putting his flaccid cock in her mouth. He wanted to push her away. He wanted to get out. But he just closed his eyes and thought of you. It was wrong. And he felt real shitty for doing it. But he did it anyway. His thoughts weren't sexual at first. It was just you laughing and looking at him.
" Mmm that's it Ed." Chrissy said cupping his balls.
He ignored her and kept thinking about you. Only this time he thought of the first time he saw you. The way you had your tongue out. The way your tits bounced. Then at the lake. Stand there in your tight red bathing suit. Sweat dripping down your skin. Then when he was holding you under the fountain. How your soft body molded to his. The smell of strawberry shampoo filled his nostrils.
Before he knew it, his body filled with goosebumps and his toes curled.
He opened his eyes and saw Chrissy spit out his cum and smiled up at him.
" That was fast Ed."
He swallowed and tried to smile. Catching his breath. " S-sorry."
When he got out he laid in bed with her. She was fast asleep. With his eyes fixed on the ceiling tears fell.
I'm so sorry Chris.
After Eddie left, you went to check on Natalie. Once you knew she was okay you went to bed. Looking up at the ceiling you were lost in thought. The day at the lake was nice. And you liked all your new friends. Especially Eddie. You were lying when you said he wasn't your type. He was most definitely the type of guy you would fall head over heels for. Only saying  he wasn't to save yourself from the hurt of rejection. Then the whole car thing happened and now today. Today was amazing in every sense of the word. It's been so long since you felt comfortable with someone. Ever since your college relationship ended 2 years ago, you haven't felt like you needed anyone. You had enjoyed being alone. Being free to do whatever you want. You had dropped out of college when the break up happened and decided to travel until you missed your family. This labeling you as the troublesome one. So a few months ago you wanted to finally settle down in a little town. Be closer to your loved ones. It took a bit to find a good paying job and with help from your brother. You bought your first house. And boy did you love your little house and the silence that came with it. You wanted this to be your forever home. So you worked other jobs to pay your mortgage off faster. A relationship wasn't something you had time for and was the furthest from your mind.
But today hit you differently. All day you kept repeating to yourself that Eddie in fact had a girlfriend. To stop looking at him like you wanted him. Because…you did. He was beautiful and funny. And he made the best faces. Most importantly he was really good with Natalie. You actually loved seeing him with her. It honestly made your heart melt when he called her princess.  Still, he was unavailable. So you cursed yourself for basically asking him out on a date. Not that you would ever actually consider it a date. But he also didn't say no. Even though he maybe should have.
You sighed heavily while turning to your side.
I want to get to know you on a deeper level…Maybe we could-
" Tee?"
You rolled over and saw Natalie in your doorway.
" Yeah baby?"
" Can I sleep with you?"
You softly smiled and sat up. Pulling the blanket back. She ran over and you picked her up. Once she was comfy you laid down.
" I like bud, Tee."
You laughed a little and moved her hair behind her ear.
" Me too baby."
The week dragged on for an eternity . Eddie looked forward to Sunday. He only saw you once during the week. When you picked up your car. You didn't stay long. But the few minutes he got with you got him through the week.
On Saturday, Chrissy tried and failed making dinner. Like always. But hey at least she still tried. The date night was quiet. The night consisted of pizza and a movie. He sat there watching one of her favorites while she cuddled up next to him.
He should be here. He should be enjoying the time he has with her. And for the most part, it was a good night. However he kept thinking about tomorrow. Should he pay for the "date"? Could he put his arm around you? Does he offer a shoulder for you to hide in when you were scared?
All the unanswered questions came to a halt when Chrissy started kissing his neck. Everything got pretty heated. Before he knew it, he was taking her from behind. He tried not to think about you. He was trying to focus on her. What he did last Sunday wasn't right. He shouldn't have been thinking about you when he was with her.
About 30 or so minutes later he finally came. He laid there while Chrissy went to shower. A few minutes later he heard her moaning. When he went to check he saw her pleasuring herself with the shower head.
He went back to the room and sulked. Now he couldn't even make his girlfriend cum. His mind went to the other guys. We're they bigger than him? Did they make her cum? Was he bad tonight? How often did she do that? Was it after every time they had sex?
Then his questions went to you. Could he get you there? Would you accept his size? Would he even be able to fit because of how big you were?
The second after he thought that, he felt like a shallow piece of shit. He didn't think you were fat or anything like that. Sure you were definitely bigger than him. But you were beautiful. Inside and out. He knew that because even though he only hung out with you twice, those two times was all it took to see the real you.
The goofy and sweet, competitive and strong willed, outgoing and loving you. And though tomorrow wasn't a date. He was going to treat it like it was.
Chrissy finally came to bed and she gave him a kiss on the cheek. When she turned around he cleared his throat.
" I uhh have a date…tomorrow."
Chrissy smiled. " That's good. Have fun. Good night Ed."
He wanted her to be upset. To hear her say something other than have fun. But when he heard her steady breathing he knew that she didn't care.
When he agreed to meet you at the theater, he wanted to pick you up. But, you said you had to do stuff before. So when he got there he was expecting to see you alone. He was wrong. Somehow instead of a night with you two, Steve, Gareth, Robin, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Mike were there. His heart sank. You didn't mention this to him.
-
You locked eyes with him and smiled. So happy that he came. He looked a little upset at first. But that faded when he saw you. Sure tonight was supposed to be just you two. And you really wanted that. However, you didn't know if it was the best idea. As much as you wanted more time alone with him. The thought of his girlfriend changed your mind. So you invited everyone. Hoping that he wouldn't be upset that you didn't tell him.
-
Tickets were bought, and snacks were in an abundance. Now it was time to find a row to sit in. Dustin picked the perfect seats right in the middle of the theater. When everyone was about to sit, Eddie was hoping to sit next to you. But his luck just ran out. To your right was Robin and Steve. To your left was Gareth. When you looked at him, he could see that you were apologizing with your eyes. So he forgave you for whatever you thought you should be sorry for and grinned at you. Taking the seat next to his best friend.
Everyone was getting settled in, passing around popcorn and chit chatting. The lights flickered and the audience cheered. Once the lights were off the opening scene to Suspiria played. That's when the exit door opened up and a couple came in.
When he saw her, he sank into the seat.
What the hell?! What the fuck Chris?! You said you hated scary movies.
Then he saw her date and was pissed.
Jason fucking Carver! You've got to be shitting me!
If it were anyone else, anyone who didn't give him hell in highschool. He would have been okay with it. Well, as okay as he could be. But it was fucking Carver. Chrissy knew how badly he was bullied. And she was out with the prick. Like this situation wasn't bad enough. Now she was fucking him too.
Eddie took a couple of deep breaths to calm down. His eyes followed them to their seats. He was disgusted. Then out of nowhere he felt a hand on his thigh.
-
You were sad that you couldn't be close to him. God you wanted your thigh to touch his. You wanted to be overwhelmed by the scent of his body wash and faint cigarette smoke. You wanted those glances. Silently telling each other they rather look at one another, instead of the movie. But Gareth hopped in the seat before Eddie even got the chance. And Robin didn't want anyone else to sit next to you. So she slipped into the chair on the other side.
Slightly annoyed with both of them you accepted that it was probably for the best. Sitting there, doing those things would only aid the feelings that were growing.
When the movie started you looked over at the cute blonde couple that came in. In the darkness you could still see Eddie's face. The look he had scared you. Then you saw his fist clenched and jaw flexed looking at the couple.
" Hey Gare." You whispered.
Gareth looked at you and smiled. " Yeah?"
" Switch with me, yeah?"
His smile turned down. " You want to sit next to Eddie?"
You nodded and leaned in to kiss his cheek. " Yes please. There's something wrong."
He turned to Eddie and followed his glare. " S-shit! Umm." Gareth looked back at you and got up.
When you sat down Eddie's eyes were still fixed on the couple. So you reached over and put a hand on his thigh. When he looked at you, his eyes softened. His jaw slacked and his fist loosened.
" You okay bud?" You asked just above a whisper.
You saw his Adam's apple bob.
" Y-yeah. I-I'm good."
But you didn't believe that. " Who are they?"
-
Eddie looked away from you. He was embarrassed. He would be so humiliated if you met her this way. He didn't even want you to meet her. He could lie and say the shit about Carver. But he didn't want to lie to you. He wanted to be utterly and completely transparent.
" Uhh." He sighed. " That's uhhh Chrissy."
"Chrissy...Your Chrissy?"
He nodded.
You were quiet until he saw you turn your gaze onto Chrissy. You sucked on your teeth when you saw what he saw. Chrissy was kissing Jason. You didn't say a word. You just got up and started down the row. Gareth must have known what you were planning because he was just a few steps behind you. Right when he passed Eddie, he gave him a look.
" She's gonna fight."
Eddie's eyes nearly popped out. He quickly got up and went after you. Pulling Gareth back.
" HEY! CHRISSY!" You shouted.
She looked right at you. " Uhh yeah?"
Eddie saw you smile. But it was anything but happy. Then you laughed sarcastically.
Chrissy stood up." Do I-"
You then raised your fist and mid swing Eddie grabbed your arm.
" ED! WHAT THE-" Chrissy screamed.
" LET ME GO EDDIE! YOU CAN'T HIT HER. BUT I SURE AS HELL CAN!" You yelled trying to get out of his arms.
Next thing he knew Jason got up and pushed him. Gareth jumped in and threw a punch.
While holding the very tenacious you back, all his friends came to help. People were throwing popcorn and ushers came.
Finally everyone who was involved got thrown out.
Eddie had to pick you up and carry you outside. While you cursed at Chrissy the whole time. When he put you down he cupped your face and made you look at him. All the while thinking how incredibly sexy you were for doing that.
" Y/n please. Calm down."
" No Eddie! How are you not pissed?! She is such a dick for cheating on you."
You tried to push his hands away but he then decided to give you a full on bear hug. It only took a couple of seconds before you hugged him back.
" I-I'm so sorry bud."
" Don't be. I-"
" Oh my God! You totally were gonna kill her!"
Eddie didn't want to let you go. But Mike interrupted the moment. When you guys pulled apart everyone was staring at you two.
The young ones that didn't know the situation praised you for what you did. The others that knew looked at Eddie. Clearly understand that he hasn't mentioned a word of this to you.
"Ed?"
Eddie turned his focus on Chrissy who was standing behind Gareth.
" You have a lot of nerve you-" you started to say but Robin jumped in front of you and grabbed your arm. With Steve grabbing your other arm. Pulling you away.
Eddie quickly looked at you. " It's ok sweetheart."
You shut your mouth and nodded.
He then went to walk with Chrissy.
" What the hell was that?!" She said, smacking his arm.
He sighed. " I'm sorry. She doesn't know about our arrangement. But... what the hell are you doing with Jason? And here?"
Chrissy looked like she was gonna cry. " Look Ed, he's changed. And I was going to tell you. But I barely see you."
He scoffed. "And who's fault is that? I'm home every night."
She looked away and wiped a tear away. " Ed, okay I'm sorry I didn't tell you. But he's different now. And I want to get to know him."
He should've been mad. He should have argued more. But he glanced at you and he knew he didn't really care to. He just wanted to be with you.
" Chris. It's fine. Have a good date."
She smiled weakly and nodded. He was just about to join his friends again when Chrissy grabbed his hand.
" Though she tried to kick my ass, I like her…you like her too. So you need to be honest with her…I'm not gonna be home tonight. So maybe bring her back?"
That's breaking a rule.
He didn't say anything and watched her walk away. When he came back you looked apologetic.
" Alright, so now that the movie's out of the question-"
" I think we're banned now." Steve interrupted Robin.
She rolled her eyes. " Yeah whatever. So what're we gonna do?"
" We could go to The Palace?" Max suggested.
" Or the Hideout?" Gareth offered.
Steve scoffed." The kiddos can't go there yet."
" I kinda just want to go home." Eddie said.
" Me too." You said
He looked at you and you still looked sad.
" I umm rode with Gareth…could you take me home instead?" You asked him.
You rode with Gareth?
" Y-yeah. Of course."
Once the goodbyes were said, Eddie held open the door to his van for you and offered his hand to help you up.
" Such a fine gentleman."
" Ehh I try."
Both of you smiled a little.
The drive was silent. Well, except for the sound of him tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. When he pulled up to the house you sat there for a minute. He kept telling himself to say something. To stop being so weird. But nothing was coming to mind. Then you shifted and turned your body towards him.
" Eddie, I am so sorry you had to see me like that. And I'm really really sorry about Chrissy. You don't deserve to be cheated on…no one does." You reached out and put a hand on his knee. " Everything's going to be okay. You're a great guy. I'm sure you'll find someone who treats you and thinks you're with the shits."
He grinned.
" Y/n, I have to tell you something."
When he was done, you sat straight forward. Eyes fixed towards the dash.
" Uhhh wow. Okay I'm a dick."
He laughed a little. " What? No you're not."
" No seriously. I'm an asshole. I should have minded my own damn business."
" Sweetheart, it was very cool that you stuck up for me. People don't normally do that. And it was badass."
You tilted your head and widened your eyes a little." Well I don't feel like a badass."
He put his hand on your head rest. " You are."
The second you looked at him with those beautiful eyes of yours, he wanted you then and there. Unfortunately, he didn't know if you would be okay with having a relationship with him.
Now that it's out. Might as well.
"S-so does it bother you that I am..I guess you could say polyamorous?"
" What? No." You shook your head and averted your gaze. " Not at all. To each their own."
He withdrew his hand when you seemed to not pick up what he was putting down. Still, he needed to know. Needed to ask questions.
" Have you ever been in a relationship like this before?"
He tilted his head. He was just about to ask you that. " Uhh no. Chris is the only girl I've been with."
You gave him a little smile. " Aww that's cute."
You're cute.
You looked back at him. " Bud?"
" Yeah sweetheart?"
"As much as I love sitting in your van. Cuz I do…like more than life."
He chuckled.
" But I need a drink. And my belt is digging into me like it's trying to become a part of me."
He laughed again. Then you hoped out. Just before you closed the door you gave him an amazing smile.
" Coming curls?"

I'll Be Big Tomorrow • Mason Mount
Mason has just put the phone down on the bedside table, he should at least try to sleep. And maybe if he closes his eyes and tries hard enough he should be able to. Or so he thinks, because then he opens his eyes and looks at the digital clock realising that not much time has passed and he's still in the same situation.
He sighs, his heavy eyes begging him to find some peace. But first it's the position, his neck bothering him or not wanting to lay on his side, then his brain activates a compilation of various cringe-worthy moments of his life and he finds himself pounding his fists on the mattress because really!
Yet Alice had tired him out pretty bad that night, so much so that by the time of the bed story his slightly blurred vision had prevented him from being as fluid as other times. He had felt so old and for a moment had even wondered if those were the first signs of his failure.
He was about to give in to the evidence that his day had started much earlier than he had anticipated, when he heard a noise. It was outside, he says to himself, I don't need to be scared by noises now. There are no thieves, everything is fine... you are the one who needs to calm down. And then you ask why you can't sleep.
But then his hearing sharpens and actually what he hears are not random noises but footsteps, tiny little steps that get closer and closer. And he's sure of it when the door to his room opens a little more even though he doesn't close it and with unsteady steps his little girl approaches his bed unaware of him already awake watching her.
Her small blue-lit face seemed to study his figure, that light equally present for both her room and his so that she wouldn't walk in the dark and always feel safe when she wanted to reach him. It had taken him a while to get used to it, him who didn't sleep if he wasn't in the dark, but for his little girl he had changed so many habits.
The little girl has something in her hands, probably her inseparable stuffed panda, which she pulls onto the bed before climbing in, helping herself by clinging to the covers. Mason watches her carefully with a grin on his face as in the dimness the little one settles under the covers and then next to him, quietly so as not to wake him.
"You should check daddy is asleep before you do this" Mason pulls her close chuckling as she gasps in surprise.
Mason leans over slightly to turn on the bedside light and when he lowers his gaze, his daughter's guilty half-smile hits him as it does every time. He can't when she looks at him like that act like the bad cop, and considering he has to do both most of the time it's a big mess.
"What are you doing here? Didn't we say big girls sleep in their room?"
"But Hammer and I can't sleep" Mason almost rolls his eyes every time he hears that panda's name, Declan's handiwork and gifts. "Can we stay? Please" well considering she had stayed in her room for two consecutive nights before this, he could call it a win right?
When his mum had suggested it was the right time for her to have her own room, Mason had made the first major decision of his life as a single parent. All the advice in the world would never have prepared him for what he had to face then, because well the other kids weren't Alice and the other parents weren't Mason.
He knew for himself that he was a lost cause, perhaps too permissive and with not enough iron fist. He was mature enough to know it had to be done, still a little unsure how. He had stood there with her explaining what and how it had to be done, had her choose the colour of the walls and the sheets and everything, finding himself surrounded by pinks and dolls. But then it was time to act, and if the afternoon nap went smoothly, when evening came it was a real struggle. He had tried to say no, to be firm in his decision but that wasn't him and he ended up sharing a few tears locked in the bathroom.
"I'll be big tomorrow" Mason pretends to think about it, a hand under his chin to highlight it, but they both know she's already won.
"Alright. Just one more night" the soft tone of voice admitting defeat. And he may be weak but the joy of his little girl bouncing on her knee and then crashing against his chest to hug him happily is not something anyone can take away from him.
And he watches her as she settles back better against the pillow clutching the panda and then looks at him, probably waiting for him to do the same.
"You can't sleep either daddy?" she asks already yawning with her head buried in the pillow.
"Don't worry about me sweetie" he sighs leaving a kiss on her forehead, "I'll be fine"
"Nighty, I love you"
"I love you more" because in the end the one important thing his mum always told him was that all things happen when they have to happen. And he certainly doesn't mind sharing his bed with his little girl for another couple of days.

Alina hadn't meant to fall asleep. No, actually she did. She hadn't meant to sleep through the alarm she set on her phone. Lately there weren't enough hours in the day between doing her job and helping Mal do his.
"This presentation could lead to a big promotion, Alina. That'll change everything for us."
Us. She should be glad that he's finally talking about their future, and she was. They'd been stuck in a holding pattern for years, the corporate climb always taking precedence. Right now, though, she'd be grateful to catch more than an hour or two of sleep at night. In few days, they'd be in the same timezone again—the six hour difference was not helping.
Until then, she'd just have to catch a power nap when she could.
"Miss Starkova."
That familiar baritone pulled her out of a dream where she was lounging on a white sand beach, and she wanted to groan. A furious blush followed in the next second when she remembered where she was: the small study in her boss's hotel suite.
"Mr. Morozov!" she exclaimed as she sat bolt upright. "I'm sorry. I was just—" She shuffled through the papers on the desk, cheeks burning brighter at the bit of drool on the quarterly financial report. Great.
Aleksander Morozov, CEO and president of Ravka Enterprises, leaned against the door jamb, arms crossed. She'd seen him out of his usual three-piece suits before, but somehow the dark grey slacks and black button-down, collar undone, sleeves rolled to his elbows, seemed more intimate. A sight reserved for a date rather than his harried assistant.
His expression was unreadable as he cocked his head. "You were just...what?"
Alina bit back a frustrated sigh. If she'd woken with the alarm, he wouldn't have caught her literally snoozing on the job. She would have been done with the reports, caught up on emails, and updated his schedule before he returned from drinks with—who was it, again? She ran a hand over her face.
She had at least another hour of work ahead of her, two more like, and Mal would be calling any minute. She could laugh, but she'd probably cry instead.
"I can take this to my room." She stood, gathering the files and printouts. "I'll have tomorrow's schedule in your inbox before you wake up, and—" She cut off at the soft press of his hand over hers.
He was behind her, so near she could feel the heat radiating from him. She resisted the urge to inhale the subtle mix of cologne and bourbon. God, she needed sleep.
"What's wrong?" He moved his hand to her shoulder, encouraged her to turn toward him.
She shook her head and tried to smile up at him. "I'm fine. Just tired is all."
He frowned, searching her face with those dark, lancing eyes. "Yes," he said. "I've noticed. You've been tired this entire trip. Why?"
Alina grimaced. Apparently she hadn't been keeping up appearances as well as she thought. "It's nothing." At his flat look, she admitted, "Mal has an important presentation coming up, and I've been helping him at night. It won't happen again." Sleeping at work, she meant. Of course she'd help Mal.
A good girlfriend was available whenever she was needed. A good girlfriend wasn't resentful. And a good girlfriend's stomach didn't flutter when her older, unfairly handsome employer stood close enough that she had to crane her neck to keep her gaze on his.
"Ah, Malyen." Aleksander said his name with what almost sounded like a note of derision. "And he can't manage this presentation without you?"
The question sent a spike of indignation through her. Worse, though, it pricked too close to her own three a.m. thoughts. "Of course he can."
"Good." The corner of Aleksander's mouth curved up a hair. "Then you can get some rest." He nodded toward the paperwork and laptop. "That can wait."
"Really, I'm fine." Her body betrayed her in that moment by yawning.
He raised his brow as if daring her to keep arguing.
She was pretty sure her cheeks were permanently red now. "Right." Her hand unconsciously reached for the pile of work, and she stopped herself. It felt strange leaving all of that undone. "I'll just head downstairs."
Her phone buzzed as she picked it up from the desk, and he plucked it out of her hands with a stern look. His expression soured further when he looked at the screen. She squeaked out an objection when he accepted the call, bringing the phone to his ear.
"Mr. Oretsev." He held up a finger as Alina opened her mouth again. "I'm afraid Miss Starkova is unavailable for the rest of the night. I need her to be at her best for tomorrow's meetings, and that means several hours of uninterrupted sleep."
Alina glared at him as he listened to Mal's reply. She set her jaw against another yawn, determined not to prove Aleksander right.
"Yes, I'm aware," he said coolly. "However, since I am the one paying her salary, I must insist that she is well rested and sharp when she is on the clock."
Mal's voice grew louder on the other end of the line, and though she couldn't make out the words, Alina could guess what was being said. Mal didn't like her boss, thought the man was too arrogant, too entitled—particularly of Alina's time. In her less charitable moments, she felt it was rather like the pot calling the kettle black.
Aleksander seemed unfazed by the tirade he was receiving, only hummed as if in agreement. "Then as her boyfriend, I assume you are even more invested in her well-being than her employer."
Alina rolled her eyes. She was going to get an earful from Mal about this later.
"Oh, and Mr. Oretsev," Aleksander said, " a word of caution. You may not work for me, but you'd do well to remember that Keramzin Capital is one of my subsidiaries." He ended the call without waiting for a response.
And now there was yet another fire for Alina to put out before she could catch any shut-eye. "Thanks for that." She glowered at him, holding out her hand expectantly.
He kept his eyes on hers as he slipped her phone into his pocket.
"You can't just take my phone!"
"Someone has to take care of you," he said. "Since neither you nor your boyfriend"—there was no mistaking the derision in his tone this time—"appear to be willing, the job falls to me."
She opened her mouth to balk, but it turned into another jaw-cracking yawn. She hated the vindication that flashed across his features. "Fine. I'm going." She tried to inch around him, but he wouldn't budge.
He held her gaze for a beat, and her exasperation gave way to a different kind of warmth. Embarrassingly, she swayed on her feet, the combination of acute exhaustion, whatever this odd moment was, and the impending drama with Mal entirely too much.
Aleksander grabbed her wrist and her heart leapt into her throat as he lifted her over his shoulder.
"What are you doing!?" she gasped.
"Putting you to bed."
She was mortified at the idea of being carried through the hotel corridors like a misbehaving child, but her breath caught when, a minute later, he dropped her onto a plush king-sized bed—his bed. She tried to sit up, but he pushed her gently back down into the pillows.
"This is where you belong," he said, and she was certain her fatigue-addled imagination was conjuring up an implication that wasn't there. "For the next eight hours, at least."
"But where will you sleep?" she asked around yet another yawn. The bed really was luxuriant. Her eyelids started drooping against her will.
He gave her one of his rare grins as he moved to the foot of the bed. "There's a sofa bed in the other room." He slipped off one of her shoes, then the other, fingers grazing across each ankle, sliding down each foot.
Or was that another figment of her crumbling consciousness?
He helped her get under the feather comforter, and she was glad that she'd chosen business casual as her attire today. Because there was no way she was getting up again.
"Rest as long as you need," he murmured with a tender expression that made her chest tight.
"But the meeting with—"
"I'm perfectly capable of handling things on my own," he said over her. She couldn't help but hear a throwback to his earlier disdainful question about Mal's capabilities. "Now, sleep. That's an order."
Her eyes were more than happy to obey even as she scoffed lightly. "Not on the clock anymore."
He breathed a quiet laugh. "And you won't be until I say so."
She heard him pad toward the doorway, and suddenly, she couldn't let him leave without recognizing his uncharacteristic kindness. "Thank you, Mr. Morozov." Because he was right; she desperately needed this.
He didn't respond, and she looked up, thinking he'd already left. He was still there, though, standing at the threshold, hand hovering over the light switch. He glanced back at her over his shoulder.
"Call me Sasha," he said, barely more than a whisper. He flicked off the light. "Goodnight, Alina."
Blessedly sleep overtook her before she could ruminate on his peculiar behavior.

"Nonsense." The Fox growled with a shake of his head. "I--"
It was then that Beryl stirred, coughing loudly. Flecks of dark ooze shot from her mouth and onto both the Fox's hand and the floor. Where they touched his skin, he felt an icy chill.
"Easy," He mumbled, putting a warning hand to her as she tried to sit up in his arms. "Try not to move."
"Remember what happened last time." Lapis chided, though Beryl wasn't looking in her direction.
"Sorry." Beryl mumbled, reaching up to weakly rub away the residue around her mouth and eyes. "I panicked, I didn't have any other options-"
"You're not in trouble." Lapis insisted. "We're just glad you're safe."
Beryl grimaced, but didn't try to say otherwise.
"Let's get you to bed." the Fox said, starting to walk to one of the cavernous hallways, but stopped when Beryl gripped the front of his shirt tightly.
"Don't leave me, dad." She said, starting to curl up into a ball.
Ah. Right. He supposed it wasn't exactly appropriate to just slide by what had happened without any sort of acknowledgement. Beryl had been panicked to the point of using her powers, after all, fearing he was in danger.
In some faint, relieving way, it was endearing. It was so similar to how she had been as a toddler, clinging to him or Lapis at all hours. Granted, the circumstances causing it weren't very nice, but...
It was also a bit discomforting, knowing she was more worried about him than herself--she had been the one to exert herself, and take a bite from that snake, after all.
"I'm perfectly fine, dear." He managed, reaching to rub her back all the same. "I'm not going anywhere."
"You are not." Lapis signed with a disappointed frown. "How many times am I going to have to tell you? You need rest, too."
"I can still move, can't I?" He growled back, ignoring the incessant ache in his ribs that begged to differ. In truth, he had been moving about in spite of the pain, but nobody had to know that.
"Ichigo."
That name, plain and clear, made him stiffen. She only ever used it to get his attention, to emphasize when she was serious, and it worked every time. It was his name, after all.
"You don't need to keep up the strong act." Lapis said, letting out a sigh through her nose. "Go take a nap with Beryl, please. Everything will be fine for a few hours."
He stood there for a moment, staring at her with a hard expression. He knew she was right. He knew arguing wasn't going to do anything. But he couldn't just sit and do nothing. As if he'd trust those old fools to handle the matter of the bishops and the Red Crown!
But... He also wouldn't be able to do much if his injuries got worse. Not to mention, Beryl needed him right now.
"Fine." He said, avoiding Lapis' eyes. "Fine, I'll go rest."
"Thank you, dear." Lapis signed, her expression relaxing.
The Fox leaned down and gently nuzzled her face, and she briefly stroked his chin in return.
He then made his way down a hall, off in the direction of the chamber they called their sitting room.
Much like everywhere else in the cave system, it was cluttered with various bones and trinkets that Lapis had accumulated over the years. Many large crystals were piled in the corners, emitting a gentle blue glow that bathed the room in a calming light.
With a loud exhale, he dropped down onto the layer of cushions that covered the floor, though was careful not to jostle Beryl too much.
He didn't need to get into any specific position to get comfortable--He could sleep pretty much anywhere, really. So he merely laid there on his back while Beryl shifted, settling for snaking under his arm to drape herself over his chest.
Tumblr media
As much as he hated to admit it, he was actually pretty tired. All the energy from his earlier anger had left, and he hadn't had time to properly rest after first returning home.
So as he lay there, Beryl already snoring, he found his eyes steadily growing heavier and heavier.
And soon enough, he was asleep as well.

yet ANOTHER 'fWhip can't take care of himself and refuses to rest' - ScottfWhipJimmy
You guys said you wanted this so I wrote it :} (I might have been watching Martyn's vault hunters streams as background noise...)
Jimmy's favourite part of the emperor's meets at Grimlands was when he could leave and no longer listen to Joel complain about how the count was dressed. Mostly that it did not suit a noble, not to say an emperor with the Crown. Who cared if fWhip lived his life in dusty and muddy, too-big-for-him coats and falling-apart scarves? Jimmy certainly didn't, especially since the whole conflict between them has ended.
"I think I left my notes," he sighed to Lizzie, Joel and Scott.
"I'll wait here," the elf said, already leaning against a wall. They did have a meeting scheduled to talk about some stuff - mostly so Scott could have a break from his brother and advisors.
Since Lizzie and Joel had their own things to get back so they left - Lizzie did threaten Scott to make sure Jimmy was not hurt. Not that many things could hurt an eight feet tall demigod who could at will strike all his problems with thunder. And so Jimmy hurried back to the meeting room.
To his shock fWhip was still there. Jimmy expected he went to discuss some WRA business but he was just slumped in his chair. "Sorry, I forgot my..." Jimmy started to apologise, just in case fWhip was actually doing something important, but froze when the Lord Emperor... snored and shifted a bit.
Was he really asleep or messing with Jimmy? When would he fall asleep even? The meeting ended barely like five minutes ago. And now that Jimmy was thinking about it fWhip did look a bit tired and even yawned a few times. But to fall asleep this fast? He must have been exhausted. And... maybe looked a bit cute all wrapped in his coat, scarf and draconic wings with his mouth slightly open. But no matter how cute he looked or how comfy the chairs in the meeting hall were it was probably not the best spot for a nap.
He did have Scott waiting for him but there was no way he was leaving fWhip like this. So after grabbing his papers and shoving them into his bag Jimmy gently shook fWhip. "fWhip? Don't you have a bed somewhere?" he asked just quiet enough so anyone walking past the room wouldn't - hopefully- hear him, and shook the half-dragon.
Nothing so plan B it was - calling Scott so he was not annoyed he had to wait and explaining the situation to him.
Scott was quickly back in the meeting room and sighed as soon as he saw fWhip. "He's overworking himself again," he said and poked fWhip. Not even his cold hands could wake the slumbering dragon. "I found him like this a few times back when Rivendell was in the WRA," he explained. "He'll overwork himself and then sleep in the most random places. Like the top of his workbench and then pretend he's fine. We definitely should move him somewhere more comfortable."
Luckily they were literally inside fWhip's manor so all they had to do was find a bed. Any bed. And put fWhip in it. All while avoiding any staff and guards so they would not alert fWhip's siblings and allies. They wanted to put him somewhere comfortable. Not start a war. Luckily they didn't have to wander too much and there wasn't that much staff in the manor. Maybe because of the meeting?
"I think it might be fWhip's bedroom," Scott hummed looking about as Jimmy set the sleeping count on the bed. "Looks like no one slept here in a while," he explained but Jimmy had a different problem.
"Scott? He's not letting go of me..." Jimmy whispered, at this point afraid to wake fWhip up. And got pulled even closer as fWhip mumbled something in his sleep. Low and growly but illegible. "Scott? Help... please..."
"How exactly am I supposed to help? I'm sure you're strong enough to break out," Scott chuckled. "And it's nice to see you two not arguing without Gem and Lizzie around," he added and sat on the bed.
It was a mistake as fWhip's arm which was not holding Jimmy hostage for fear of breaking the count's limbs, grabbed his long braid and pulled him into the hug. Mumbling something just for a second and shifting with an annoyed half-growl until he was comfy enough between too shocked to resist Scott and Jimmy.
"I think we're stuck here," Jimmy whispered, giving up and cuddling fWhip. He was not fighting long, covered in deep dark red scales tail wrapped around his leg. Scott sighed and said nothing but also gave up to the tight grip the living furnace that fWhip was, had on him. It was quite a pleasant change from the constant chill his affinity for ice magic came with.
*several hours later*
fWhip had no recollection of ever leaving the quickly tossed together by his staff meeting room and going to bed. Or Scott and Jimmy ever joining him as pleasant as it was to be stuck between them despite Jimmy's sharp scales and how cold Scott always was. His dragon part was happy and it took him a second to register that he was purring. Not something he did often, growling at annoying people was a more common presentation of his dragon instincts.
"Had a nice nap, sunflower?" Scott hummed, shifting a bit but not pulling away. "You're purring..."
"It's cute," Jimmy yawned from behind fWhip pulling both of them to himself. "Morning, firecracker."
fWhip could only hum as his dragon brain melted in all the affection. Dragons were as he discovered shockingly clingy and cuddly which made his day-to-day life a bit miserable as it made him constantly touch-starved. It was so bad he wasn't even questioning why Jimmy and Scott were in his bed anymore. Just hoping they'd stay a bit longer.

Part 11: Your Power
Thank you for your patience and kind words! 💖
Also, I dunno why tumblr created random double spaces when I pasted it, but oh well
Part 10 | Ao3 | Part 12
If Izuku could go back in time and tell his younger self that he'd one day be standing in the number two hero's bedroom, his younger self would initially be horrified and demand to know exactly why he was in Endeavour’s room. However, once Izuku then explained that the current number two hero—whilst also being a Todoroki—was actually the kindest, handsomest man he knew and that they were friends, Izuku's younger self would then laugh humourlessly and ask for the punchline.
He wasn't going to go back in time and do that, but the thought did briefly entertain him, as he waited for Shoto to grab his laptop from the desk.
'Are you sure it's okay for me to stay?' He felt compelled to ask. 'I already got the letters.'
'I wouldn't have invited you if I wasn't okay with it.' Shoto assured easily, tone the same as usual; not conveying any hint of annoyance. 'Regardless of the letters, I wanted to hang out with my friend.'
His heart fluttered.
'Yeah, but at your house? Alone?'
Izuku certainly wasn't complaining, just hesitant. While he was glad no one was around to tease him—Fuyumi, specifically—it felt strange, almost forbidden, to merely be here; he felt like he was in a teen drama, being asked to come over to his crush's house because their parents weren't home.
He supposed the current situation wasn't too far off.
'Why not?' Shoto frowned. 'It saves trying to avoid the media… and I can wear my pyjamas.'
He certainly could: faded blue pyjama bottoms with cartoon All Might faces spread out across the legs, along with a black tank top that left nothing to the imagination.
'That's true. You look-' Izuku swallowed thickly. 'Comfy. I like… the trousers.'
'I thought you would.' He then seemed to realise something. 'Sorry. I should've asked if you wanted to bring yours.'
The thought of his crush seeing Izuku in his Shoto-themed pyjamas was enough to make him choke.
'It's-' He cleared his throat. 'It's alright. I'm fine in my jumper and joggers.'
'Okay.' Shoto looked around for a moment. 'I can set up my futon in the living room as well if that's more comfortable.'
Izuku's cheeks burnt.
'Whatever's easier. I don't want you making more work for yourself!'
'I would need to unroll it before going to bed anyway, so I'll just sleep there tonight.' Shoto spoke matter-of-factly, handing the laptop to Izuku, before grabbing the futon and leading the way to the main room. 'I'll be honest with you, I fall asleep during most movies, so I'd rather lie down just in case.'
'Aren't you just increasing the likelihood of falling asleep by providing the optimal conditions?’ Izuku found himself smiling with amusement as he followed.
‘You may be right, but I am also being proactive so that, in the event that I do fall asleep, I won’t hurt my back.’ Shoto replied, just serious enough for Izuku to question whether he was joking or not. Once they arrived, he set the futon down and began setting it up. ‘It’s okay, I don’t snore.’
He snorted at that.
'How would you know? You're asleep.'
Shoto opened his mouth, then closed it again.
'I've never had complaints… and I used to nap a lot whilst in the UA dorms.' He explained slowly. 'But you're right. I don't actually know for sure that I don't snore. I apologise. I am a liar.'
He lowered his head, ashamed; Izuku found it endearing, even if—once again—he couldn't tell whether he was being serious or not.
'Well, if you do fall asleep, I promise to let you know whether you snore or not.' He assured, smiling when Shoto shot him a grateful look.
'Thanks.' He smiled, then took his laptop back, before settling down on the futon and patting the empty space next to him. 'Come sit.'
Izuku nodded frantically, then made his way over. He tried to ignore the multiple scenarios that instantly formed in his head as a result of them sitting on the same bed—mostly based on romance novels and movies that were grossly unattainable—and hesitantly took his place next to Shoto. He felt very aware of his movements, like he’d somehow forgotten how to work his limbs and was relearning from scratch again. He also deliberately left a good few inches of space between them, just in case—an inordinately difficult task considering their sizes, but he made it work by awkwardly tightening every muscle in his body.
 That’ll do…
Shoto, luckily, didn't seem to notice how tense Izuku was, and set up the laptop in front of them, connecting the HDMI cable to the tv.
‘What do you want to watch?’
He shuffled, switching his crossed legs as he thought.
‘Well, I’d suggest an All Might movie, but I know that’s a sore spot for you.’ He tried joking, relieved when Shoto huffed, amused. ‘So how about a Ghibli instead? Can’t go wrong with a Ghibli.’
‘Sure.’ Shoto nodded, typing out the studio into the search bar. ‘I haven’t seen them all, but we watched a few as a class when the dorms were first set up at UA.’
‘Really? In that case, do you wanna watch one you’ve already seen or a new one?’
‘Depends.’ Shoto regarded him for a moment. ‘What’s your favourite?’
Izuku’s pulse thudded against his temples. Shoto was asking him what his favourite was? The rational part of him argued that it was a perfectly normal question to ask, but he easily ignored it. After all, Shoto looked earnest, like he actually cared about the answer.
Izuku then considered his options. He'd never really settled on a favourite—having gone through phases of being obsessed over most of them—but he could definitely narrow down a few.
‘Growing up, Kiki was my favourite.' He answered slowly, thumb pressed against his chin in thought. 'But right now, I do like Howl’s a lot, so maybe that.’
He chuckled nervously. Definitely not the hopeless romantic answer.
‘Howl’s Moving Castle?’ Shoto tilted his head to the side. 'I've read the book, but I haven't seen the film.'
'Oh, the book is amazing!' Izuku spoke animatedly. 'The film is very different… but they're both good in their own ways, and while the book explains things in a lot more detail and develops the characters in a more complex way, Miyazaki really captures the magic and romanticism—not to mention the art is as gorgeous as ever; the music too.'
He paused, gingerly covering his mouth with his fingers. 'Ah…’
Almost started muttering there.
Shoto frowned.
'You know I don't mind the talking.'
'Yeah, I know.' He awkwardly tapped his index fingers together. He still wasn't used to someone actively enjoying his muttering, but as much as Shoto liked it, Izuku still couldn't afford to be encouraged. There were plenty of people who found it irritating and wouldn't be afraid to show it. 'Just… I guess I was finished anyway.'
Shoto blinked as he observed Izuku carefully, but ultimately didn't press, which he was thankful for.
'Okay, well I don't mind watching Howl's, if that's okay with you?'
'Yeah, yeah. I've seen them all before anyway—I love rewatching stuff!' Izuku assured quickly, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. ‘When I was younger, I used to watch All Might’s debut video constantly… shocking, I know.’
‘Bet you didn’t watch my debut video that religiously.’ Shoto quipped good-naturedly, as he brought up the movie on the screen. ‘Although I will admit, my debut video wasn’t nearly as impressive.’
Briefly, Izuku wondered which debut video he was referring to. If it was the staticky footage of his fight with his brother at only sixteen years old, then the raw power was impressive… it just wasn’t really the kind of video someone rewatched for fun. A child soldier forced to combat his brother, only to watch him destroy himself with his own flames in his revenge? Even if Shoto could use his own fire in combat, it would’ve been a difficult battle.
No, Izuku wasn't particularly fond of watching Shoto fail to save Todoroki Touya.
However, if it was Serenity Hero: Shoto’s debut video, then he most certainly had watched it religiously. He’d been fresh out of UA—fully trained and more mature—as a sidekick at Gang Orca’s agency. Izuku still remembered when it aired for the first time: Shoto had single-handedly prevented a building from collapsing—saving over seventy lives—whilst also taking down a villain capable of growing and shrinking their own body at will.
He also remembered how, after the fight was over, Shoto had brushed off the press to stay with the victims, refusing to leave until everyone had a place to go.
Izuku knew then he was a goner for that man.
‘I really loved your debut video.’ He spoke, passion in his voice. 'I knew from the first time I watched it that you were gonna be one of my favourites, and I was right. You're a true hero, Shoto-kun.'
His friend pointedly looked away then, albeit the way his hair was tied up in a messy bun meant that he couldn't hide his reddening ears. While Izuku internally jumped for joy at being the reason why Shoto was so flustered, he also couldn't help but ponder how someone so attuned to compliments could react in such a way to his comment.
'Thanks, Midoriya.' He seemingly took a moment to gather himself, then cleared his throat. 'Shall I press play now?'
Izuku smiled, his tension gradually subsiding.
'Sure!'
The screen started moving—preceding the gentle, introductory melody of merry-go-round of life—and Izuku quickly allowed himself to be swept away by the music and visuals. He always got a feeling of nostalgia from Ghibli movies; a rare exception when it came to reflecting on his past.
At his side, Shoto’s face was impassive, but his eyes were glued to the screen in clear interest. It made Izuku smile, as he relaxed back against the sofa pillows that Shoto had propped up for them. For once, his mind had calmed down to a quiet buzz, despite the overwhelming presence lounging next to him. Often, Izuku found himself wanting to fill silences—not for attention, he just found it preferable to an awkward alternative where no one really knew what to say—but he found that, with Shoto, that need just wasn’t there… and it wasn’t because there was a movie playing.
Maybe it was because his friend didn’t talk much in general, but he had this aura about him; it was like no silence could ever be awkward, because he only ever spoke if there was anything meaningful to say. Izuku could understand that—sometimes it was nice to simply bask in someone else’s presence.
He was comfortable.
So much so that he hadn’t even noticed that he’d started rocking back and forth where he was sitting—cross-legged and hands gripping his ankles—nor did he know how long he’d been doing it. It wasn’t until Shoto turned to look at him inquisitively that realisation set in, and Izuku stilled, eyes widening.
‘I am… so sorry... It’s weird, isn’t it? I didn’t mean to distract you.’ He couldn't keep the slight panic from his voice. ‘I didn't even realise, it just kinda, er, happens.’
His friend tilted his head to the side.
‘Why?’
He didn’t appear to be annoyed, asking more out of genuine curiosity. Izuku should've expected as much.
‘Oh, well…’ He felt his cheeks colour. ‘I do it when I’m excited… or just happy and relaxed, I guess.’
Shoto regarded him further, absorbing his words thoroughly, before nodding once.
‘In that case, don’t be sorry.’ His eyes were soft. ‘I’m happy that you’re comfortable with me. I… it's good.’
Izuku’s heart thudded against his chest with newfound ferocity, while he pressed his lips together. Just when he thought he’d gotten control over these feelings, Shoto had to go and say something else that would make his soul transcend his body.
Despite the internal reaction, however, he didn't release any high-pitched squeaks, nor did he cover his face with his hands—which were still gripping his ankles—or begin muttering. It was quite the accomplishment, Izuku thought, as he flashed a grateful smile and allowed his body to continue rocking.
‘I’m glad. I’m always happy around you.’
He wanted to throttle himself for saying something so sappy, but then Shoto's ears turned pink again, and Izuku quickly decided that the small slip-up was worth it.
‘I… me too.’ His friend cleared his throat, turning back to the screen. ‘I might rewind this a bit—I wasn't paying attention.’
'No problem!' Izuku laughed nervously. 'Neither was I.'
He then watched as Shoto dragged the cursor back to the part where Sophie and the Witch of the Waste were climbing the palace stairs. 'Oh, this is a fun bit.'
He didn't get a reply straight away.
'I've never seen someone sweat so much.' Shoto's lips pursed slightly with distaste. 'And I did hero training with Bakugou.'
Despite himself, Izuku snorted out a laugh, then slapped a hand over his mouth to quell the volume. His shoulders still shook though, betraying his amusement.
‘You think that was bad, imagine what it must’ve been like when he first started going through puberty.’ He grinned. ‘It was awful. No one had the nerve to say anything to his face, but yeah... The only redeeming factor was the smell.’
‘I have to disagree. I'm not fond of caramel.’ Shoto scrunched his face up. ‘I told him as much and gifted him a bottle of deodorant.’
‘Pfft!’ Izuku was glad he didn’t have anything in his mouth, else he’d have spat it out. ‘What’d he have to say to that?’
‘The usual: called me a “Half n Half icyhot bastard”, threatened to kill me, started making explosions… He refused to use any antiperspirant after that as well.’
‘Classic Kacchan.’ He sighed with exasperation.
‘He's fun to annoy though.’ Shoto half-smirked. 'I once got dared to ask him whether his profuse sweating led to difficulties when it came to more… intimate activities. I thought his head was gonna explode, it went so red.'
Izuku blinked once, stunned.
'You didn't!'
When Shoto sent him a smug look, he gasped, slack-jawed. 'Wh- Bu- I… and and and you survived?!'
He was met with a shrug.
'He's not as powerful as he thinks he is. There's a reason he's the number five hero and I'm number two.’
As his friend turned back to the screen, Izuku found that his gaze lingered slightly longer than necessary. Part of him briefly entertained an alternate universe where Shoto could've been with him at Aldera; would it have been much different? Would Kacchan still have picked on him as much as he had?
He shook himself—no use contemplating what ifs—and they continued watching in silence.
After a while, bombs were falling on the hat shop, while Howl resolved to keep fighting. This scene had so many iconic visuals that Izuku started rocking slightly faster.
 'I finally have something I want to protect… it's you.'
'That's rude.' Shoto huffed. 'Markyl's right there.'
'Right?' Izuku sniggered. 'Poor guy!'
His friend grumbled a little bit, much to his amusement.
Izuku really did enjoy this movie… but for some reason, this time, every romantic interaction between Howl and Sophie felt more profound. With every word and gentle touch, Izuku's eyes subconsciously watched for Shoto's reaction.
To his disappointment—not that he knew what he was looking for—his friend's face remained carefully blank. At least he wasn’t falling asleep, like he seemed so certain he would. In fact, by the time they reached the end scene, Shoto’s eyes weren’t even heavy. Izuku chuckled to himself at the small victory.
 'Sophie, your hair looks just like starlight!'
His gaze focused on the shining grey hair of the heroine—only a few shades darker than Shoto’s right side—and immediately stored that line away for one of his future corny daydreams where he'd have the courage to tell Shoto how he really felt about him.
Izuku kept his lips sealed—a precaution for his muttering—and imagined how Shoto would react: maybe not as overtly excitable, but perhaps his ears would turn pink, or maybe little icicles would coat his skin, like Fuyumi sometimes did when she was happy. Izuku hummed along with The Promise of the World, as his mind conjured the mental image.
‘I didn’t fall asleep.’
He sniggered at how shocked Shoto sounded.
‘You didn’t. I’m so proud of you.’
‘Don’t get ahead of yourself. The night isn’t over yet.’
Izuku tried to hide his surprise—did that imply that he wasn’t going to be going home soon then? If so, that certainly wasn’t a problem; if Shoto wasn’t intending on kicking him out straight after the movie finished, then Izuku wasn’t about to push the subject.
'We’ll see then.’ He smiled. ‘So, what did you think? Not falling asleep is a good sign, right?'
Shoto nodded.
'It was good.’ He agreed. ‘But Nausicaä is still my favourite, both film and manga.'
‘You've read the manga?’ Izuku asked, intrigued. ‘I never would’ve expected that from you. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s nice! How come that’s your favourite?’
‘It’s difficult to describe.’ Shoto scratched his scar out of habit. ‘Just everything… I think part of it is that Nausicaä is kind, but not naïve… in fact, she sort of reminds me of you.’
'Me?' Izuku pointed to himself eloquently. 'You think so?'
Shoto nodded, but chose not to expand further—much to the chagrin of Izuku's curiosity—and the credits continued rolling, filling the silence.
'I think what puts me off Howl's is that they fall in love so easily.' His friend then mused, frowning slightly. 'I prefer the way it develops in the book… probably more realistic too.'
Izuku could understand that.
'I suppose it is a little fast, especially for the L w-w-word, particularly when it feels like not a lot of time has passed, but it's also harder to have that gradual build-up with movies like this.' He pinched his chin. 'I guess if someone feels that strongly though, anything can happen, regardless of time.'
There was a pause.
'You say that, but I could never imagine falling in love so quickly.' Shoto admitted quietly. 'Maybe it's my upbringing, but romantic love is, for me anyway, to trust someone completely. That's not something that can be achieved easily.'
Izuku tilted his head to the side.
'As a hero, I thought you'd trust your co-workers completely.'
'I trust them with my life.' Shoto nodded once. 'But that isn't the same as absolute trust… I wouldn't trust Tsukuyomi or Pinky or Lemillion to help me through a low point, and it's not because I don't think they'd be competent. It's difficult to explain.'
'No, I think I understand.' Izuku bit his lip, considering his next words. 'Have you ever… felt that way about anybody?'
His heart pounded against his chest as he awaited a response.
'No.'
Izuku swallowed heavily.
 Do you think maybe you could, one day?
'I wouldn't want to subject anyone to that.' Shoto then added, and Izuku's mind immediately switched gears.
'What do you mean?' He frowned. 'You're literally perfect!'
His friend flinched.
'Don't lie to me.' He looked away, voice suddenly cold. 'I don't appreciate it.'
'What?!' Izuku's heart stung from the comment, even more when Shoto didn't respond. Perhaps he should back down and change the subject—it was obviously a soft spot—but Izuku was a meddler, and at that moment, his friend looked trapped in his own head. 'I would never lie to you. I'd be lying if I agreed with you!'
Shoto clearly hadn't been expecting him to fight the issue.
'Then I was wrong. You are naïve, or just blind.'
'Explain it to me then.' Izuku stared at two-toned hair, voice quivering slightly as his body shook. 'Make me understand.'
Shoto's head whipped around, eyes wide with frustration and lips pulled taut.
'You really want to know? Fine. This quirk that you think is so great? It's a curse.' He spat; sounding nothing like the Shoto that Izuku had gotten to know over the past few weeks. 'There's a reason I only use my left side to counter my ice's negative effects. I will never let my flames consume me like it did with Touya-nii; I refuse. Endeavour's power is the brand of a monster… and I'll always be at least half of one.'
Shoto stared at his left hand, before bringing it to cover the scar adorning his eye. 'She says I'm blameless for this, that I shouldn't ask for forgiveness, but it doesn't change facts. I've always hurt the people I love, despite how hard I try.’
Izuku sighed through his nose, biting the inside of his cheek. There was so much public knowledge about this family—so much history and abuse and tragedy—yet this was a side of Shoto that no one got to see. Those emotions were stored deep down—an ice prison—and repressed until now.
He really had hit a soft spot.
For some reason though, the main emotion coursing through Izuku in that moment was anger. He couldn't stand the way his friend spoke about himself; his attitude towards his power. Shoto wasn't looking for sympathy, but confirmation, and Izuku wasn't about to give him either.
‘It seems we’ve both made assumptions about each other.’ He said, strangely calm. ‘You’re not the hero I thought you were.’
That got Shoto’s attention. The clear hurt on that usually unimpressionable face almost had Izuku bursting into tears. Almost.
He persevered. ‘Every day, heroes give it their all to save people, yet here you are only using half of your quirk. I thought there was a physical reason you rarely produce fire, but no. Turns out you’re holding yourself back deliberately because of some grudge or superstition. You expect to reach your full potential using half your strength? Stop screwing around.'
‘Who the hell do you think you are, sounding like my old man?’ Shoto hissed, getting to his feet. ‘I thought you were my friend.’
Izuku quickly followed suit. Shoto stood almost half a foot taller—glaring down at him like he was a villain—but he didn't submit to the intimidation, whether intentional or not. Instead, he met those angry, sad eyes.
'I am your friend.' He took a breath. 'That's why I'm going to challenge your irrationality.'
'Irrational- Get out.'
Shoto pointed in the direction of the exit, but Izuku stood his ground.
'No. Not until you understand.' His throat began to swell and his eyes prickled. 'I would give anything to have a quirk. I spent my entire life being shat on for being "less evolved", told I'd never amount to anything and that I should hope for a quirk in the next life. If someone told me they could give me a quirk, I'm ashamed to admit that I probably wouldn't hesitate, yet here you are with not one, but two-'
'You want the old man's quirk so badly?' Shoto clenched his fists as a layer of frost coated his skin. 'You want his power to make you mean something?'
'Stop saying that!' He wanted to scream. 'Stop saying it's "his" power! Stop acting like Endeavour owns half of you! He doesn't! You're not two halves of one whole and you're not a slave to the Todoroki flames. It's not his power that makes you who you are and it never will. You know why?'
A beat passed and Izuku took advantage of Shoto's silence by taking a step forward. 'Because it's all you. It's your power. You become the hero that you want to be, not what you think you should be.'
He could hear his heart pounding against his chest; pulse thudding against his temples. He wasn't sure what to expect. He knew Shoto wouldn't lash out physically—he wouldn't—yet adrenaline buzzed through his body and bile crawled up his throat. He was probably visibly shaking too, but dared not look down to check.
Shoto was still staring at him, but his expression became unreadable, setting Izuku even more on edge. However, he stood his ground, determined and staunch. He’d said what he needed to say, now it was up to his friend.
'You…'
Shoto brought his hands up to cover his face, before slowly crouching down. He stayed like that for several moments, whilst Izuku wordlessly worried if he was okay.
All of a sudden, little wisps of fire ignited from his hair, gradually growing larger, then Shoto slowly removed his hands and looked up at Izuku, who baulked when he saw tears sliding down his right cheek, contrasting the flames that sprouted from the creases of his scar. The bobble holding up his bun caught alight, causing his hair to fall in front of his face.
What caught his eye the most, however, was the smile Shoto wore; it was almost liberating.
And despite Izuku’s best efforts—to tell his mind that this was not the time—he couldn’t help but marvel at just how beautiful he looked in that moment.
‘Midoriya…’
Before his friend could finish though, the fire crept onto the sofa, where the material immediately started blackening. Izuku let out an embarrassing squawk in response, alerting Shoto, who swore as he slapped his right hand over the material and encased the entire thing in ice.
The two of them stared at the now frozen sofa—the fire fully extinguished—and Izuku burst out laughing. It wasn’t even that funny in retrospect, but he couldn’t help it, especially when he saw how shocked Shoto looked. Maybe it was the residual adrenaline or maybe it was just to fill the comical silence; the reason didn’t really matter.
‘Are you okay?’ Shoto raised an eyebrow.
‘Yeah, sorry. Give me a minute.’ He took a deep breath, holding in any remaining giggles, and shook his head. Once he’d sobered up, he exhaled and cleared his throat. ‘Okay, I'm fine.’
Shoto nodded with relief, then surveyed the scene once more.
'Fuyumi is going to kill me.'
'Not if you outrun her.' Izuku shrugged. He then considered his friend, and replaced his smile with a slight frown. ‘Hey, erm… I’m sorry for shouting before… I’m not sorry for what I said, but I’m sorry for upsetting you. I can still leave if you want to.’
Shoto blinked up at him, still crouched on the floor, before sitting down fully and leaning back on his arms.
‘No, I’m sorry for how I acted. I…’ He swallowed thickly. ‘You’ve given me a lot to think about… And you don’t have to leave unless you want to.’
Izuku bit his lip. On the one hand, he should really leave Shoto to his thoughts, but on the other, he didn’t want to leave things as they were; the wounds from their argument were still fresh. If Izuku was in Shoto’s position, he wasn’t entirely sure he’d want to be alone right now.
‘Do you want space or a distraction or… third option?’ He swayed side to side as he awaited a response.
‘I was thinking…’ Shoto tucked his hair behind his ear. ‘Maybe we could put on an All Might movie?’
Izuku brightened.
‘Sure!’ He sat back down next to his friend with a smile. He suspected there were a few reasons behind the decision, but didn’t comment. He was content going along with whatever Shoto chose and thought was best. ‘Oh, this is one of my favourites!’
‘Same. When I was a kid, I used to watch this with my mother… before everything.’ Shoto explained, then faltered, mouse over the play button. He looked like he had something else to say, but didn't quite know how to vocalise it.
Eventually, he turned to face Izuku, visibly concerned. 'I haven't ruined things, have I?'
'What?' He exclaimed. 'Of course not! I'm the one who should be asking you that!'
'I...' Shoto sighed. 'I still want to be friends.'
'Oh, me too.' Izuku exhaled loudly, unsure of how long he'd been holding his breath.
'I'm glad.' But he wasn't finished. 'I'm also sorry for what I implied before.'
'Wait, what?
At Izuku's clear confusion, Shoto seemed to hesitate.
'You don't need a quirk to mean something… you know that right?'
The nausea returned.
Sure, he did know that—it had taken years, a lot of resources and plenty of tears, but it was the truth—yet he struggled to respond straight away. His life had meaning—he had meaning—but was it enough?
He shook himself.
 Don't think about it.
'Yeah.' He said instead. 'Thanks, Shoto-kun.'
His friend flashed him a small smile then—which had Izuku feeling a little guilty—and focused back on the screen to press play.
All Might flew through the sky—his silhouette passing the film studio's logo—while his theme music blasted from the tv speakers, and a sense of ease seemed to wash over Izuku. It was like coming home, after a long day of work; or finally getting in the bath after an arduous workout; or seeing a loved one for the first time in a while.
It was the power of All Might.
Next to him, Shoto leant back against the cushions.
'Hey, Midoriya?'
Izuku tilted his head to the side.
'Yeah?'
His friend was still smiling as he wrapped himself in a blanket and straightened his legs out in front of him.
'Thank you.'

This will be our third robbery. Getting to be routine at this point.
Tumblr media
Remember, everyone: We are here for the workshop tools. Do not break the workshop tools.
Feel free to smash anything else, though. This all Aephorul's shit. If something gets wrecked because it was in the way or you just felt like it, that's no skin off my back. I am entirely comfortable turning this place upside-down out of spite.
Tumblr media
Oh cool, we can jump him while we're at it. It will be refreshing. I don't know if you know but the area outside your dome is nothing but blue sand and derelict robots for miles; I am itching for a change of pace.
Tumblr media
It's already smashed. Did you break out of it?
I think I can see silhouettes of little wispy poofs like you at the bottom of the ones that are still active. Are those still... alive... or did they not make it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friend of yours? Felt. Don't worry, we'll help you carry out some retributive violence. Sometimes that helps. Closure can come in many forms and, one way or another, is a vital part of healing.
Tumblr media
OH HEY, what a coincidence! You look just like an asshole we're going to kill. What are the odds? Man, small world.
Tumblr media
If it were dead, Zale, then B'st wouldn't have made a fuss about it. Obviously, it's taking a nap. But I'm about to start hitting it if it doesn't wake up because sleeping through its murder is extremely rude. I will not be disrespected like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credit where it's due, your jawline is amazing. And I'm digging the mechanical snakes for hair pulling double duty as hands. It's a solid aesthetic, capturing just enough humanity to breach the uncanny valley while providing avenues for your work. Gold star.
I'm going to break your nose now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...okay, when I said that, I wasn't expecting it to actually fracture so easily....
Can you, uh? Can you put your face back on? This is a lot grosser and...
You know what, never mind. I'll take care of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that is how therapy works. Do you feel better, B'st?
Tumblr media
Fortunately, we've been assured by prophecy that that's you so CHOP CHOP, let's get this mythical feat of alchemy going! I'm eager to see the results.
...
You know what, standing here in this place makes me feel very self-conscious about what I just said so I'm going to go away now. You guys... go... do what you need to do and ignore me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh my god, I know I said I was going to go away and leave you guys to it but you've been at it for so long. Zale is poking a stasis tube with a stick for lack of adequate stimulation. How long does it take to cram a soul into a jar?
Tumblr media
That sounds ominous. Resh'an, I am literally on the other side of a tattered curtain from you. You know I can hear everything you're saying, right?
Tumblr media
You look amazing.
I have concerns. Concern #1: How fragile are you? Can you take a hit without shattering your case and bleeding soul fog everywhere?
...come to think of it, addendum to concern #1: Would it hurt you to bleed soul fog? Because I can think of some tactical uses for that otherwise.
Concern #2: Are those things on the end of your arms maces or do they have digits on them? It'd be a dick move to not give you hands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THAT IS SO COOL. Do me next!
...I mean, not right now, obviously. Just. If I die, I want this to be my backup plan. Trust me, my will is strong. I've been told that I can be downright pigheaded. if necessary, I can probably get Moraine to write a letter of recommendation about how stubborn I am.
Oh, but make mine prettier. No offense, B'st; Your body is fine. For a prototype.
In any case, welcome aboard! Now that we've got you, next order of business is the speedballs.
Tumblr media
Cultists? Huh. Wonder if it's the Acolytes.
Probably not. Aephorul said he was going to merge them with Strife. Which. Gross. But I hope so anyway because I miss my favorite punching bags.
I wish I'd known before that their bones were a thicket. There are so many cracks about "pruning" or "weeding" them that I never got to make.
Whatever the case, it's time to pay a visit to Esa... Esoteric... Estrid. It's time to pay a visit to Estrid.

WHO: Phoenix Romero-Sawyer & Aslan ‘Dodger' Özdemir
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fever that you gave me Led me sweating to a summer Can I believe once more? If I can be next to you somehow Next winter I'll be fine
Phoenix was feeling conflicted as he walked through the ren faire, messing with the orange tennis ball in his hands. The night at the bar still replayed through his head as he walked. Maybe I already have. It was a joke, it had to be, but it was also Dodger, who always lived somewhere in that gray area of his life. Rubbing his face he sighed thinking over the chat he had with Jay, he was honest with her before anyone else. Always making sure he was clear with his intentions. He wasn't sure when she'd gotten not only so much smarter than him but also mature.
Spotting a familiar figure sleeping under a tree in the park he felt his gaze soften. Walking up he dropped the tennis ball onto his chest, ”You know there's a whole faire going on around you and you're sleeping through it,“ he said with a grin on his face.
The aim had been to meet Emrys after his triumphant win at the jousting tournament, but after crushing defeat instead, Dodger decided to let the youngster have some time to himself, wallowing or causing havoc or whatever it was he was doing. No doubt he’d turn up with a pocket full of shit he’d taken from peoples booths and, as he always did, Dodger would tell him how proud he was.
How a stroll through the park had turned into a Power Nap, Dodger wasn’t entirely sure, but at least he knew he hadn’t passed out and had been competent enough to find a tree to curl up underneath. The voice, and the sudden jolt on his chest startled him awake, and he looked up, unable to distinguish the face of the man in front of him initially with the afternoon sun shining in his eyes, glittering around the silhouette of the man’s head like a halo. “I’ve seen what I need to see,” he pressed a hand hard onto his eye, rubbing the sleep from it with such intensity a red mark remained even after his hand moved. “You know there’s a whole faire going on around you and you’re over here talking to me?” He echoed back, eyes adjusting to see the face of Phoenix gazing down at him.
Phoenix had stuffed his hand in his pockets, sticking his foot out to keep the tennis ball from rolling away after it slid off Dodger. Sitting down in front of him he picked it back up and tossed it from hand to hand. "I've done a lap around, seen what I need to see," he shot back a smirk on his face. "I haven't seen you today so here I am," he said, eyes flicking to the mark on his face and shaking his head. "Did you actually try and have some fun, or just make a bee line to this tree?"
Much like a dog would after a nap, Dodger remained where he had been asleep and stretched his body out on the spot, legs and toes pointing far out and his arms raised above his head. Something clicked when he did but he couldn’t be sure which part of his body was creaking this time. “Aww and you came to see little old me?” He let his hands flop back to his sides, and he patted the grass next to him, prompting Phoenix to air next to him, “I feel honored.” What time even was it? “I’ve had fun,” he said defensively, “it’s not like I sleep all the time. Anyway, where’s Jay? Is she enjoying herself? Kids always love days like this. Kids and Duck.”
"You should be, though I'm afraid I didn't bring any beer, you'll just have to settle for my company until you're ready to get up," Phoenix said grinning down at him. Shifting to sit closer when Dodger motioned for him too, he'd always been a bit too ready to follow along with him. At the mention of Jay his grin softens to a smile and he nods, "She is actually, off with that boy she likes. Took after her dad that one, likes the quiet ones with that pissed off look." As much as he may have intimated the boy on occasions, he did genuinely like Felipe and appreciated what he was to his daughter. "She did request that you come watch the jousting with us at least once, and the archery booth. Wants to win you a prize."
Dodger let out a low groan and rolled his eyes. "If you didn't bring beer, how am I supposed to pretend that your presence is tolerable?" He said with a stern face and a single raised eyebrow, but the corners of his mouth betrayed him, twitching ever so slightly into a smile. Not that Phoenix would be able to see it properly as he shuffled in closer to Dodger, allowing the sleepy man to rest his head on the Romero's lap. "Off with a boy? At her age? Thought all they cared about at that age were superheroes and puppies?" A joke obviously, Dodger had known Jay long enough to get a sense of her personality and how she seemed mature for her age, something he couldn't relate to at all. "I can come along for the jousting. I got a friend that's entered so I need to show him some support anyway."
When Dodger slips into his lap, Phoenix feels his cheeks flush, setting both hands behind himself to lean on. "You're breaking my heart, and here I thought we had something special. But you just want me for my beers," Phoenix said, letting his smile fade as he did his best to look distraught. His lips still twitched, a smile returning and laughing when Dodger described Jay. "She's 15, I'm pretty sure this is when boys enter the equation. Thankfully he's not getting into fights like I was for you at their age." Looking down at him curiously he asked, "Oh yeah, who's your friend? Already replacing me for not bringing you a beer?"
"If I really wanted to break your heart, I'm sure I could, but that's a lot of effort on my part." He glanced up at Phoenix for a moment, catching the underside of that strong jaw, and Dodger reached up, grabbing one of his friends hands and bringing it down to rest in his hair. "Am I an anomaly then? I don't remember liking boys or getting into fights at 15." He closed his eyes for a moment, thinking back to his younger years as Phoenix played with his hair, how funny that despite everything the two of them were still here. "Nah he does me favors now and again. Squeezes into spaces I can't. I think he looks up to me for...whatever reason. But your position is safe; I don't think he's even old enough to buy beer yet."
"You'd be surprised how little effort you'd need to do that," Phoenix admitted as he started running his fingers through Dodger's hair. Thinking it over before shrugging, "Well I don't remember liking boys at 15 either, was barely in my 20s when Bradley happened," chuckling he gives him an amused smile, "Also what fights would you even have been in, I took care of that for you." It feels odd to reflect on that time, he'd been so angry and quiet, Dodger being the one who could get him to relax and smile. He snorts at the description he's given, "Is this how you tell me you accidentally adopted a child? Because now you're just risking Jay getting jealous as losing her favorite uncle."
Dodger paused, and tilted his head up once more to catch Phoenix's gaze. "Lucky for you, little effort is kinda how I roll." Not that he needed to tell Phoenix that; the Romero had seen it all first hand, watching him grow from a boy to a man with his ambitions and drive waining more and more with each passing year. But Dodger wasn't unhappy, no matter what people would think. He had everything he needed. "You never had to take care of the fights," Dodger shuffled a little, twisting on the spot to face Phoenix fully, "I'd have won that shit before you jumped in." He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I did not adopt a child, I've seen how much work it takes to raise one. But Jay isn't getting rid of me that easy, she's still my favorite. You both are."
Phoenix moved his hand through his hair, occasionally rubbing the other's forehead with his thumb. "Not always, always felt like you put in the effort  for me," he quipped, an easy grin on his face. He couldn't think of a time Dodger missed a meeting between them, been late sure, but never slept through that. Chuckling he shrugged, "Well maybe I just like protecting you, be a shame for something to happen to that pretty face." Moving his hand he flicked his finger on Dodger's forehead before going back to playing with his hair. He could feel his gaze softened, maybe it was the way he spoke of Jay so fondly that made him even more charmed by his friend. "We better be, hate to have to sign up for the joust just to re-earn your favor. Doesn't look good for the fire captain to have a grudge against some kid."
"I did," Dodger was quick to answer. Effort was something to be earned, as far as he was concerned, and maximum effort all the time exhausted people, wore then out and grounded them down until there was nothing left worth knowing. That's why he would happily float through life, putting in the effort for those who really deserved it, and Phoenix, in one form or another, had always been one of those people. "Aww, you think I'm pretty," he fluttered his eyelashes dramatically, looking up at Phoenix with a pout on his face, feigning cuteness, the flick against his head breaking his character and warranting a chuckle. "Thank you." He shuffled back into position, one hand coming up to idly draw vague shapes against Phoenix' thigh. "I'd say if you develop a grudge against a kid, you're a bit weird and probably have some underlying issues. But...you are a Romero, so that is kinda expected," he followed with another laugh, "no, but I promise, no one is gonna replace you and Jay's spot in my life, okay."
"Hmm, well aren't I special," Phoenix mumbled softly, it was meant to be a joke but it came out more genuine than he'd meant it to. It was odd to compare the Dodger everyone else seemed to see with the other he saw. Had seen when Dodger was willing to put in the effort, hell he'd done it not just with him but with Jay. It was more than he'd ever expected but it had solidified how he felt about the other man, and trusted him with what was most important to him. "Careful your ego gets any bigger and your head won't fit in my lap anymore. Wouldn't that just be a shame," he said, eyes flickering down to his thigh. He felt a warm flush spread on his face as he turned his gaze back to Dodger instead of the swirls on his thigh. "I'm the Romero you stuck around with," he grumbled, "Though I am a Sawyer now too so maybe that evened out my issues." Thinking of Bradley and looking at Dodger it struck him how similar the two made him feel, and how patient they always seemed to be with him. "Hey, can I try something? Just something I want to try and if it's weird we never talk about it again. We just stay the same, just you and me against the world."
Dodger could have lay here in complete silence and still felt comfortable, not just physically but mentally too. There was a stability that Phoenix provided to Dodger's life, one that he always had. "It would be a shame; you're damn comfortable." It wasn't a lie, to the point if Dodger closed his eyes any more he could drift back off into another nap, but that meant it would cut their time together short. He never liked cutting their interactions short. "Yeah, you are the Romero I stuck around with, and I'll continue to stick with, okay?" Maybe if he'd been closer in age to another Romero they would have ended up as a closer friend than Phoenix, but honestly Dodger was happy with the cards he'd been dealt. As Phoenix spoke, Dodger shuffled once more so that he was laying on his back, facing up at Phoenix as the back of his head remained on his lap. "Try something? Sure, as long as you're not gonna drop that ball on my face or something."
"You're as bad as my kid, just using me for a pillow," Phoenix grumbled Though he didn't actually sound particularly bothered by this. He tugged lightly on his hair before settling his hand back on his head, thumb brushing against his forehead. He'd been the one to come after Hawk and Duck, two of the loudest in his family, it had people expecting him to act a certain way. He lived up to the rep some days, fighting and cursing as much as they had, but he'd found his few friends and kept to himself. Content to just be with Dodger most of the time, he didn't need much, just having at least one person who saw him as just Phoenix was enough. "I'll hold you to that." Chuckling at his words he shook his head, "No that wasn't the plan," he mumbled. He moved his hand from his hair to grip his shirt. Tugging Dodger into a sitting position he stared at him wondering if this was a good idea. Shifting so they were now facing each other. Shrugging he pulled Dodger towards him and kissed him, surprised by how comfortable he felt doing it. Pulling back he let go of his shirt and scratched at his beard, "Was that...uh...was that ok with you? Cause I...I wouldn't mind doing that again."
“Y’know I think I might be worse. You are super comfortable, and I’m not gonna be as polite about it.” And he shuffled in closer, honestly considering wrapping his arms around Phoenix’s leg to prove the point of just how pillow-like he was. But this was Dodger after all, and he could find any surface comfortable. Perhaps it was the warmth of Phoenix’s body and their closeness as friends that made him all the more comfortable. Dodger didn’t protest as Phoenix grabbed onto his shirt, following every move the Romero made until their lips pressed together. Did it take him by surprise? Yes and no, the reasoning for the yes being that he had just been woken from a nap. He was groggy and confused enough as it was without his best friend leading him into a kiss. It stopped, and Dodger moved back for a moment, eyes looking over the face of Phoenix and the genuine happiness that he seemed to exude from that one simple action. “That was…yes…okay with me.” He paused, letting their eyes linger together a little longer before his body acted on its own and Dodger began to slowly toss a leg over to straddle the man, sitting on his lap. “We can do it again,” and Dodger instigated, putting both hands on either side of Phoenix’s face, pulling him back in for another kiss, but this time he had no intention of letting it end so soon.
There's a part of Phoenix that almost can't meet Dodger's eyes. Is worried about what he'll see when he pulls back. But he keeps his gaze locked on him, it's Dodger, one of the few people  he's ever trusted with every part of himself. He trusts him, trusting in the fact that their friendship has survived over the years for a reason. Sighing in relief when Dodger agrees, he laughs surprised by how relieved he does feel. Grunting in surprise when the other man moves into his lap. His hands instinctively move to Dodger's waist, how natural everything is feeling making his heart speed up. "Yea...ok," he mumbles, leaning into his hands and kissing him back. He's been with people since Bradley, well he's been with women. Not a single one had made his heart race with something as simple as a kiss. "I did tell Jay about this," he mumbles in between kissing him.
This has not been on the list of things that Dodger had expected to happen today, nor was it something that he’d consider would happen ever. Yet, here he was, straddling the lap of one of his closest friends since he’d been a kid, embracing him with kiss after long kiss as if they’d been lovers for years. Maybe they had and Dodger hadn’t known it, taken their closeness at face value as just “best friends”, but this…made it all make sense. “Told Jay?” He questioned equally in the small gap between kisses, “that you were planning to kiss me?” He shuffled on Phoenix’s lap a little more until their bodies couldn’t get much closer, Dodger’s chest flush with Phoenix’s as he pushed in for another kiss, letting his hands drift down from the others face to glide down his sides.
Phoenix isn't sure what he'd expected to happen between them. There was the thought that they'd pull back and laugh, agreeing to be friends only. The dark cloud that was his fears had said he'd lose Dodger, maybe not as a friend but he'd lose the closeness they shared. Kissing him though, he can't imagine he'd ever even considered either option as reality. Chuckling he pulled back enough to bring a hand up, pressing it against Dodger's neck. His thumb brushed against his jaw. "That and...I don't really know what my plan was anymore," he admitted. He can feel that familiar anxiety, the need to go quiet, takes a breath and looks at him. "Told her there was a chance that maybe we could...maybe have this be more than just two guys who make out like teenagers?" Grunting when Dodger presses closer to him, can feel the other's breath on his face after another kiss. "We could try the dating thing? Let me tell people you're my...you're my guy?"
These gentle touches, the simple brushing of the pad of Phoenix’s thumb across Dodger’s bearded jaw, said more than any of their actual words had. The fact that Dodger hadn’t been bucked from Phoenix’s lap completely for potentially taking this moment too far said enough. The way they looked into each other's eyes as if finally seeing each other, some heavy curtain or thick fog finally lifting to reveal something hidden that had been there all along. It was…nice. More than nice. It was welcomed, and feeling Phoenix’s hands on his waist and on his neck, and the magnetic pull that their lips had developed…Dodger would be craving this every day. “I’m not Bradley…” the words came out before he’d had a chance to think them over, too serious to be a normal comment Dodger would make but only cementing how serious this was to become. “I’m not…Bradley,” his tone softened, “I’m never going to be Bradley and I’m not going to try to be Bradley.” He let his forehead fall forwards, resting gently against Phoenix’s, eyes closing as the tips of their noses brushed and the warmth of their breath merging in the space between. “I’m not here to be a replacement. I’ll be your guy. But you take me as Dodger. You take me as Aslan.”
I'm not Bradley. Phoenix blinked in surprise before his gaze softened in understanding. "No you're not," he agrees, thumb moving back and forth on his jaw. The necklace with two rings beneath his shirt feels warm, not heavy, never heavy. Bradley isn't a burden he carries, he's a reminder to always try and live freely. "The man I was with him, isn't the man I am today. You saw me at my lowest when I got back and you stayed, you stayed." There weren't enough words to describe what the last year's had been like, how much he'd needed Dodger as anchor through everything. How he loved Jay, how he'd always put in the effort for both of them. "Bradley was my first love, he has his place in me. There's a part of me that will always love him, that's moved that love to Jay," he explains. There's more he wants to say, hesitates and focuses on having Dodger's forehead against his own. The feelings he'd tried for so long to understand and come to terms with.  Taking a deep breath, he kisses him again before pulling back to look at him. "I loved Bradley, but right now. Today, I'm in love with you," takes another breath, "You're not a replacement, Aslan. You're my guy. As you, you're what I've needed to finally feel the sun again instead of this icy winter I've been stuck in."
It was unlike Dodger for his breath to catch so solidly in his throat, but the more he really listened to Phoenix's words, the more he couldn't help but hold his breath to not miss a single one. It was all true, Dodger had seen him at his lowest, and he'd done nothing more than simply be there for him. He didn't try to overly sympathize, or coddle him, or follow suit to become one of those people that were overly attentive. He'd been there when Phoenix called, for a beer or a chat or a night to just sit in silence and think. Dodger had always made that amount of effort, the same amount now, being what Phoenix needed. "Then we have an understanding," he nodded after speaking of Jay, someone he'd grown to love as a family member of his own. He didn't have any of those left here. And again Dodger fell into the kiss, this one brought forth by Phoenix, and he smiled into it, a happy smile. A content smile. "Funny you say that," he can't help but smirk, keeping his lips close and ready for the next time they lock together, "I think I'm in love with you too. So I'm your guy...and you're my guy. And we can feel the sun...together."
Phoenix feels a laugh slip out, the only way for the amount of emotion he's stuck with to come out. His heart's racing and his cheeks feel flushed, but he also feels genuinely giddy of all things. He can't think of a time he'd been this excited over something, can't think of a time where he hasn't been afraid to be open about how he's feeling. All things considered it wasn't how he was raised, let alone how he'd allowed himself to be, he wasn't the quiet Romero for nothing. Leaning forward he doesn't hesitate to try and kiss that smirk off Dodger's face when he hears him agree and call him my guy.  Bringing his hand off his neck and wrapping both arms around his waist, "I'm your guy," he says a grin on his face as he looks at him. He's going to have to explain this to his family later, Jay first for obvious reasons. "Still up for that beer? Or are you gonna take a nap on me?" he asks, leaning his forehead against his again.
For the first time Dodger turned his head away as Phoenix's face pushed itself in closer, the clear attempt to wipe the smirk from his face about to fail, just another layer that added to the playfulness they both enjoyed. The extra layer that they were a couple. As simple as that? Everyone always made it sound so complicated. "My guy. Are we going to ever get used to saying that?" He doubted it. Dodger had never been in a serious relationship; there wasn't much allure to someone that slept most hours of the day and refused to partake in a normal routine, but that was something Phoenix was used to, something that Phoenix knew going into all this. Nobody knew Dodger like Phoenix did, and outside of the Romero's, he doubted anyone knew Phoenix as well as Dodger did. "Listen, it's been an eventful ten minutes, I'm gonna need at least an hour to nap so I can recover. But of course-" he planted a quick peck on Phoenix's lips, "-you're more-" and another, "-than welcome-" an another, "-to join me."
Phoenix chuckled, shaking his head as he looked at Dodger, "Maybe, if you'd rather call me something else let me know. I won't get offended over it," he said. He wasn't expecting conventional when it came to Dodger, wasn't expecting an epic  burning romance, just wanted someone he could come home to and be with. There was a calmness and stability that Dodger brought to his life that no one else really did. At his nap request he chuckled again feeling his shoulders shake, before he froze at the first peck, feeling dazed when Dodger finished. Almost hadn't caught his question before he shook out of it, "You know what, I could go for a nap," he mumbled, taking his hands off his waist so he could get up.
Dodger tapped his chin playfully, humming as if deep in thought before pressing that same finger up against Phoenix’s lips as a smile stretched across his own. “I got plenty of things I want to call you now, but to everyone else…my guy it is.” Part of Dodger was panicking, thinking that this was all happening so quickly, that he’d suddenly agreed to something without thinking it over at all, but the reality was they’d been thinking about this for years, both of them, probably. Always 100% content in each other's company, the easy conversation, the constant flirting hidden behind the banter only a best friend could get away with. There was no thinking involved because the decision had been made before today. “A nap it is then,” with the other’s hands now removed from his waist, Dodger finally slid off Phoenix’s lap but remained seated right by his side, head coming down to rest on his shoulder. “How about this: you go find Jay, tell her the good news, and I’ll meet you either at or after the contest winner announcement? And then you and I can take our first nap…together?”
My guy. God it felt good to hear that again, it wasn't the same and Phoenix hadn't wanted it to be. It was Dodger's voice that said it, meant it, and made him feel warm over it. He let out a breath when Dodger moved over, feeling his face heat up when put his head on his shoulder. Leaning over he pressed his lips to the top of his head and chuckled, "Yea I will, she's gonna be ecstatic. Might even wake you up from shrieking," he teased. Leaning his own head against Dodger' he let out a relaxed breath, closing his own eyes to just enjoy the peace he now felt. "Together," he agreed with a smile on his face.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, frens.
I would've replied to them the moment I got them, but I was on vacation with my folks and the WiFi provided was... shitty, for lack of better word. To the point where all I could do both here and on dA was lurk.
There's another reason as to why I've been quiet here, and that's because I recently had to say goodbye to my dog.
I'll stick the full story under a readmore.
~~~
I've been struggling with finding a way to say this without making it seem like I'm just... dumping it all on y'all. But it's not exactly something you can dance around, and it probably shouldn't be danced around.
And I didn't want to just pretend to be perfectly fine online, either. Even the idea of trying that just feels... wrong.
So... I will just say it.
I'm putting extra gaps here for emphasis that this is not pleasant talk. If you're uncomfortable with talk of lost pets, please scroll away/hit the back button/leave this post now. I'll add some squiggly lines to act as one last warning.
I know I haven't mentioned her very much online, but Zira, my beloved poodle and dearest friend for the last 14 years... was put to sleep the day before my birthday.
It broke my heart, but it had to be done; she was old, she had health problems, and the vet said she wouldn't make it by the time I came home.
I wasn't even able to say goodbye to her. Unless a "be good, doggo." counts as I dropped her off for boarding about an hour before I was given the... news.
I was left unresponsive for the rest of the 8th and most of the 9th. It wasn't until my aunt (who previously owned one of Zira's littermates and lost him to similar circumstances a few years prior) took a moment to talk to me that I finally cracked, letting out everything I was bottling up. Had it not been for her reaching out, I probably would still be in a silent state even now, unable to do anything other than lie down and cry because Zira was gone and it felt as though no one else gave a shit beyond obligatory "I'm sorry"s.
I soon learned how wrong I was in that last regard, as I eventually talked about it with my mother who, much like her daughter, isn't one for crying regularly. To actually see her upset to the point of tears over Zira's fate despite almost never interacting with her... it... I'm not sure how to put it, but it was relieving to know that my mom really did care, both about how I felt and about Zira in the end.
Zira was... well, I didn't call her my "fuzzy baby child" for nothing. She meant everything to me, and to think that starting today, I'll be coming home without her there to greet me, to lie at the end of my couch while I sleep, curl up beside me while I draw, or even so much as hear those cute little snores she made while napping... it just hurts. More than I've ever felt in my life.
I can feel myself tearing up as I type, so... I guess I should finish this off. I'm home now, and have already visited the animal hospital to retrieve the collar and bandanna Zira was wearing, which the vet was kind enough to hold onto per my request. Alongside those were a card with Zira's paw print, and a picture of my girl.
I don't know when I'll start posting again, but I'll try not to take too long. And I'll continue to lurk and talk here and there, if only sparingly.
To those who read this to end, I thank you for for your time.
And to those who still have fuzzy (or scaly/feathery) baby children of their own... Cherish them. Give them as great a life as you can, and when the time comes for them to leave... Do what my aunt told me to do; hold onto the memories of them while they were alive. It still hurts, especially since I lost Zira so recently...
But my aunt's not wrong. Because after I cry over seeing Zira's stuff, I find myself remembering my fuzzy baby child fondly, and smile when I thought I no longer could.
When they hold onto you.
Leona Kingscholar x Reader, Floyd Leech x Reader, Che'nya x Reader.
Warnings?: none!
A/N: off topic but I'm gonna marry Che'nya in my dreams ahah... HAHHAHA-- I'm gonna cry to sleep now.--
Tumblr media
Leona Kingscholar
You were looking for Leona, it was before your classes are going to start. You wanted to thank him for helping you study that one time. (I'll be honest, he only helped you so you can be his body pillow IM SORR--)
You were trying to look for him in his usual spot. But he wasn't there.
"Where is he- Oh! There he is. He seems to be sleeping so I'll just wake him up."
You tried to move him slightly but he only grumbled. Still not awake clearly, you tried to move him more but he only just grabbed onto your arms and pulled you into him. (Welp your plan failed--)
"Wha! Leona!!--"
"You keep annoying me, just keep quiet and let me sleep." He still was half asleep, not caring for your protests or should I say not listening of you needing to go to class soon. Just holding you tighter when you keep trying to try to get out of his grip. (Literally he's half asleep yet he still can hold onto you tightly, the logic??--)
"But-- Ugh.. fine.." You knew he wouldn't let you go easily, and you might as well just let him hold onto you. You fall asleep onto him forgetting why you wanted to talk to him in the first place. You forgetful bitc-- (IM SORRY WAIT PL--)
Tumblr media
Floyd Leech
It really isn't a surprise, because of his moods changing alot, him wanting to hold you for 5 hours straight, or wanting to murder yo--
This time he was in the clingy mood. Luckily you both were in the mostro lounge, no one was there expect you and Floyd. He was complaining on how he doesn't want to clean up. And you were helping him trying to convince him it will be fine. Until he stops cleaning the tables and his frown became a grin, you didn't notice because you are actually being productive-- (wow)
He walked towards you, not trying to conceal his footsteps as the made a clinking noise.  (IDK OK? CLINKING MAKES SENSE BRO)
You turned around to face him thinking he was just going to complain once again, but instead when you turned around you were greeted with his face up close to you. (HE IS BENDING HIMSELF TOWARDS YOU.. UNLESS YOU'RE AS TALL AS HIM- and if you are sheesh shawty where you get those legs fro--)
You were mortified on how he just was so up close and personal. It's not like you really mind him being super close, you were used to it. Its just that you really don't know what he will do next. And that alone scares you. He grinned even more leaning somehow even closer than before.
"Y/NN, isn't this boring? I wanna do something more fun.'' You blankly stared at him. Backing away from him while shaking your head while sighing. And he pouts slightly.
"Floyd, we both know that if we don't do this. Azul will scold you. Then, you will proceed to blame me for distracting yo-"
He rolled his eyes and put his arms around your waist, making you gasp in shock. He is squeezing you enough where you can't try to scramble away, but not to the point where he is cutting off your airflow.
You groaned, and he just laughed at your pain of knowing Azul will make you do extra work now because of this.
Hey, atleast you don't have to deal with a pouty Floyd anymore.
Tumblr media
Artemiy Artemi-- (It's Che'nya, I'm sorry but I'm not writing his full ass name.)
• You were helping Cater paint the roses red, after a few hours of painting some you decided to take a break.
• Walking a pretty far distance from there so you can some peace and quiet. You sat plopped onto the ground, exhausted. Who knew painting a few roses would be so much work?
• You decided you would close your eyes, and just rest.
• But then everything went blank, and what you thought was just resting for a few minutes turned into a nap. You only woke up feeling something graze your cheek.
• You opened your eyes slightly yet saw nothing, confused, you closed your eyes again. Yet it happend again. You didn't open your eyes this time thinking it was just probably the wind.
• Then you heard a whisper in your ear, you sat up quickly. Now fully awake and alarmed. But you still.. saw nothing? You heard some laughing, realizing whose voice it was you glared at the air. Knowing it wasn't truly just air. You were right as,
• It turned out to be Che'nya laughing mischievously. While making his body finally appear infront of you.
• "Really.. Che'nya? Let me just take a nap.." You mumbled tired, you laid back down too sleepy to ask about how he found you. And you closed your eyes sleep coming back once again until Che'nya pulled you up. Making you groan, not enjoying the fact he keeps making you wake up and not letting you sleep. He starts laughing, while putting you to his chest. Not having any intention of letting you leave. You groan, you being already sleepy you let him hold onto you, while you fell into a deep slumber.
• (Then he scares you awake later with only showing.. HIS HEAD AHHAHA NO REST FOR YOU MORTA--)
Part 14
😔💔🎶
You woke the next morning feeling the other side of the bed. When you didn't feel Eddie, you died a little inside. You sat up holding the sheet to your chest. While rubbing your eyes with the back of your hand. You accidentally scratched your cheek with something.
You pulled your hand away to see what the hell just hurt you.
With widened eyes tears formed. Eddie's Onix ring was your finger.
" Wh-what?"
You reached over for your glasses and looked over to his side. There was a note and the keys to his van on the pillow.
You picked up the note.
' Morning Angel,
You looked so peaceful sleeping. So I didn't want to wake you to say bye. God baby I haven't even left yet and I already miss you. I bet you're wondering what my ring is doing on your finger. Well Angel, every time you look at it I want you to be reminded that I'm yours. Sorry it's too big. But I'll get you one that fits you better soon. I also took your favorite scrunchie. I'm gonna wear it all the time too. Also, I left you my van for whatever you need. I had Wayne make sure it runs good for you. Can't have my girl get stranded. Well baby I better go before I change my mind. I'll call the room as soon as I land in LA. I love you.
Eds'
" I love you too Eddie."
You laid back down and held the note to your chest. It was good that he didn't wake you to say goodbye. You would have begged him to stay.
Later that day you sat around waiting for him to call. And when he did your heart skipped a beat.
" Hello?"
" Angel!"
" Eddieee." You squealed.
He chuckled. " Hey baby."
" Hi. How was the flight?"
" Ugh terrible. I hate flying."
" Yeah? Me too. I always have to get that extra buckle."
" Yeah?"
" Yeah...so are you settled in?"
" No. Once I got in the room I just dropped my stuff and called you."
" aww that's sweet."
There was an awkward silence. One you haven't had in a long time.
" I miss you baby."
" I miss you too."
Another awkward silence. Why was it like this?
" So umm about the ring?"
" Yeah?"
" I...I love it. But umm did you have to take my scrunchie?"
He laughed again. " Yeah I did. I needed something."
"And my underwear wasn't enough?"
" Well that's for later baby."
"How many pairs is that now?"
" uhh do you really want to know?"
" hmmm probably not. But I need to know if I should buy more."
Eddie smirked. " Yeah. You'll need to get more."
" You're awful."
"You think so?"
"No. Not really."
Eddie laughed again. " And why is that?"
" I...I don't know actually. It kinda makes me feel...I don't know."
Eddie could almost see you blushing.
" You like when I steal them?"
" Uhhh. No comment."
" Oh my baby likes it."
" Shush Munson."
You and Eddie laughed.
After a few minutes Eddie yawned.
" I'm sorry Eds. You should get some rest."
"No I'm fine."
" Eddie take a nap. We can talk later."
He yawned again. " Okay okay. I'll call you in a couple of hours."
" Looking forward to it."
" Me too. Love you Angel."
"Love you too Eds."
...
Eddie woke up the next afternoon. When he looked at his watch he first thought it was one in the morning. He sat up and saw Jeff strumming his guitar.
" Shit!"
Gareth laughed throwing himself on the bed. " Afternoon sleeping beauty."
" Afternoon?"
" Yeah man you were out for hours."
" Aww fuck! I gotta call my girl."
Eddie reached for the phone.
" Hey isn't she supposed to be going back home right now?" Jeff asked
Eddie shook his head and put the phone back down.
" Man she's probably worried." Eddie said palming his forehead.
" Nah. She knows you were tired. She called last night."
Eddie looked at Gareth. " Why didn't you wake me up?"
Jeff came and sat on the other bed. " We tried. But you were out."
" Damn. And she sounded okay?"
" Yeah she was fine." Gareth patted his back.
"Okay. I just don't want her to think I forgot about her."
" She doesn't Eddie. She said to call after we get back." Gareth said
" Where are we going?"
" We are starving my guy. And we need to meet with the producer after we get lunch."
Eddie nodded and stood up. " Alright. Where we going?"
" Awww man I keep hearing about this place called Fatburger." Jeff smiled
Eddie clapped his hands." Burgers sound awesome."
Gareth jumped up." Let's go before my stomach eats itself."
Eddie followed his buddies towards the door but stopped when he saw his reflection in the hallway mirror. He looked back at the bed and saw your scrunchie on the pillow. He went back and grinned picking it up.
He went to the mirror and put his hair back up.
" Miss you baby." He whispered to himself.
" Munson seriously! We will leave you." Gareth warned.
Eddie laughed " alright man. I'm coming."
...
You weren't upset that Eddie didn't call. You figured he would be jet lagged. But you wanted to hear his voice before you went to bed. So you called. You asked Gareth to hold the phone to Eddie's ear. While smiling at his snoring you said goodnight and that you loved him.
In the morning instead of bugging the guys again you waited for Eddie to call. But he didn't. You went to school that day sad that Eddie missed a scheduled call.
But when you got home the first thing you did was check the answering machine. Your heart leaped hearing his voice.
' Hey baby. I'm sorry I missed our phone date. But I promise the second I get to the room I'm calling you. I know you're at school already but I hope you have a great day. Make sure you eat something good and don't work too hard. I'll talk to you soon. Love you Angel.'
Eddie did call that night and you guys actually fell asleep on the phone together. It was really sweet.
December was a very long month. It went by so slow. And even slower when Eddie said he would be coming home for Christmas. You were so happy.
A month without Eddie's hugs and kisses. A whole damn month without playing with his curls and falling asleep in his arms. It was agonizing. But that didn't matter. He was coming home.
Well he was supposed to.
" I don't understand Eddie. How come Jeff and Gareth were able to come home and not you?"
" Baby they're only there for less than 24 hours."
" So? Eddie it's Christmas."
" I know baby. And I'm really sorry. But I have to work on rerecording my solo. Something is off and I can't blend the riff."
You were sitting on your bed with the phone in one ear and picking at the wrapping paper you were using to wrap Eddie's gift.
" You promised." Your voice broke. You didn't even try to hide it. You had been just so happy before this call.
You heard Eddie sigh.
" I did. And I'm so sorry I broke my promise. But I will make it up to you."
You didn't say anything. All you wanted to do was cry. But Eddie didn't need to know that.
" Angel I'm coming for New Year's. I'm gonna come and kiss the shit out of you."
A small smile crossed your lips. But it went away as quickly as it came.
" I just wish you could open your present tomorrow."
" Me too. But I swear. I'm going to be there in a couple of days. Just hold onto it for me."
" Oh-okay."
Both of you were quiet for a minute.
You looked up to the ceiling, fanning your eyes so that you wouldn't give in to tears.
" Sp-speaking of presents. Did you get yours?"
You looked down and grabbed your necklace.
" I did. It's beautiful Eddie."
" You're beautiful baby."
" No you."
You both let out little laughs. You knew he missed you just as much as you missed him. And he knew that you loved him as much as he loved you.
After talking for a while Eddie looked at the time. It was a little past 9. Which meant it was after midnight for you.
" Merry Christmas baby."
" Merry Christmas Eds."
...
Eddie didn't come on New Year's. None of the guys did. See Eddie was ready to go. At least that's what he told you. But at the last second Mel, the band's new manager booked them to play New Year's Eve at the famous Starwood club.
If the guys were gonna get their stuff out there and make it big time. That was the place to play. So many metal bands perform on that stage and were huge now.
This was their shot. You had to be happy for them. And a part of you was. Truly happy for your friends. But the other part was hurt. Another broken promise. Sure it was for the band and you could accept it...it still hurt though.
Was this going to be a regular occurrence? Would it hurt less as time went on? You hoped it would. Maybe one day sooner or later. He would come home.
You prayed for him to come soon.
Eddie knew you were hurt when he told you that he couldn't come. It broke his heart having to cancel again. But he had to. Right? This was huge for the band. If they did this, they could play at bigger venues and have their music everywhere. They would finally make it.
You even said it before you let Eddie get ready for the performance.
You did try to sound happy for him. But he just knew that he made you sad again. And though he promised he wouldn't hurt you. This was necessary for the future. For the life together. He did swear to himself that he was going to make it up to you. Whatever it was, he promised he was going to do whatever it takes to not make you sad again.
The set was by far the absolute best performance they ever played. It was epic. So much so that after, the guys nearly got mauled. Security had to escort them out.
Finally back in the room the guys were in disbelief of what just happened.
Jeff and Gareth were playing around and started to wrestle. Eddie was laughing being the ref. That was until he took off your scrunchie and looked at it.
He quickly went to the phone and called you. But there was no answer. It was almost two in the morning for him so it was almost five for you.
Since it was really early, he figured you were sleeping. So he waited for a few hours before he tried again.
After a power nap he called. But still, no answer.
He tried three more times. To no avail.
Now he was starting to worry. You never missed morning phone dates.
A bad memory brought itself to Eddie's thoughts. The last time you didn't answer this many times Eddie found you cleaning up your brother's blood.
He called his uncle immediately.
" Hello?"
" Hey old man."
" Eddie?"
" Yeah man. Hey I need you to check up on y/n."
" Good morning to you too son."
" Shit! I'm sorry. Morning. Look I'm worried about y/n. I've been trying to call but she's not answering."
" That's because she's here."
A wave of relief washed over Eddie when he knew you were okay. But then Wayne kept talking.
" She came over last night. Looked like she'd been crying her eyes out."
You were crying?
" Did I raise you to make promises you can't keep?"
Eddie was quiet. He felt like a complete ass hat.
" BOY?!"
" N-n-no sir."
" That's right! I didn't. If you break another promise to that poor girl by God I will go over there and drag your ass home. Do you understand me?!"
" Y-yes. I'm- I'm sorry."
" Don't apologize to me. You apologized to her."
" I-I-I will."
Wayne sighed. " Good!"
" Is...is she awake?"
Eddie heard his uncle groan.
" No. She's sleeping in your bed."
" Oh...okay. I guess I'll call her later then."
" How about you let her call you?"
" What? Why?"
" Because I want to talk to her before she talks to you."
"What-what're you gonna say?"
" I just want to see if she's okay. That's all."
"Y-yeah. Okay"
" Okay. Well I will talk to you later."
"Okay. Bye."
When Eddie hung up all he could think about how he should have just went home to you. Yeah his job was important. But not as important as you were.
He swore from this moment forward he wouldn't make you cry from him not showing up.
...
When you woke up you hugged Eddie's lumpy pillow really tight. Breathing in his lingering smell of sandalwood and citrus. With the faded hint of cigarettes and weed.
You didn't realize how much you missed his scent. Until you were surrounded by it again. Last night you were sitting in your room working on something when you looked out your window. You wished Eddie's light would be on. You prayed that it would turn on any second. Because if it did, then that meant Eddie was home. And if Eddie was home you could hold him and kiss him.
But when his room stayed dark. So you cried.
Why did it hurt so much? He was only gone a month and it felt like you were slowly bleeding out. The whole month you tried to go on normally. You even started hanging out with Robin and Steve. Upon Eddie and Dustin's request.
They did their best to distract you as best they could. But you never seemed to be into anything they wanted to do.
That's why you stayed home tonight. You could have gone to some random party with them or go to Bethany's with your brother. However, you just wanted to be alone.
As soon as it turned midnight for Eddie you said sent out a silent "Happy New Year Eds."
It was just after 3 am when you saw Wayne come home. You put on your slippers and went right over.
Wayne opened the door and saw you. All puffy eyed and tear streaks on your cheeks. His heart broke for you. He started seeing the difference in you since Eddie left. Your once big beautiful smile was slowly fading. That was until you talked to his nephew. Then you would get it back ten fold. As the days went on you would have a small smile plastered to your lips. But your eyes told a different story.
Wayne could tell from the moment he met you that you loved his nephew. Sure it was under terrible circumstances. But he could see it. And the same went for Eddie.
Wayne had never seen that look in his nephew's eyes before. He also never heard him talk about anyone or anything in the way he talked about you. So Wayne knew you were Eddie's be-all and end-all. Especially after the whole Mrs Clark debacle.
He knew then just like he knew now. You were his family. And he would do anything to make sure you were happy and safe. Even if he had to keep you safe from his nephew.
He motioned you to come in and let you stay the night in Eddie's room. He then heard your soft whimpers and sniffles after a while. He wanted to talk to you but he was a little tipsy from a few drinks at the bar. So he thought he would wait until the morning.
Which he did.
It was only about thirty minutes after his brief conversation with Eddie when you came out. Wrapped up in Eddie's blanket.
" Mornin' darlin'."
You went to sit with him on the couch.
" Morning Mr Munson. Umm thank you for letting me stay here."
" You're welcome darlin'. Whenever you need to, you are always welcome."
You nodded. For some reason you couldn't look at him. It was like if you did you would start crying again.
" Thank you sir."
You brought Eddie's blanket up to your nose to take a whiff.
" I miss him too you know."
You nodded again.
" I uhh sometimes I kinda still hear him playing his guitar."
You looked at Wayne but he was looking at his cup of coffee.
" It's strange...not having him here. I knew one day he was gonna move on and live a life of his own...but... I wasn't ready for him to leave yet."
"Me neither."
Wayne looked over to you. " I think you most of all were hurt most by him leaving...you two finally got your heads out of your asses, and finally got together. But just as fast as it started he left."
" it hurt a lot at first. And I miss him like crazy. But as much as we miss him, we still have to be happy for him."
"That's true. But that doesn't mean we put our happiness on hold for him."
" What do you mean?'
Wayne took a sip of his coffee and leaned back.
" Darlin' I see a difference in you... You're sad. And the relationship is weighing too much on you. You even lost a little weight. I can see it in your face."
You looked away ashamed that you were being so damn obvious with your depression.
" It's not that bad is it?" You asked.
" Others might not notice it. But I do."
You sighed wiping away a tear.
" It's not that this relationship is weighing on me. I miss him. And I know he can't always come when I want him to. I just get upset at all the things we should be doing this year."
" And what're those?"
You shook your head. " I know it sounds childish. But I looked forward to doing the senior ditch day or going on the senior trip. Decorating our lockers together. Or even go to the senior carnival with him. I...I know Eddie would say that one school dance is more than enough for him. But I would have loved for him to take me to prom. It's silly. I know-"
" It's not."
You looked back at Wayne.
" It's not silly darlin'. Young ladies like yourself want to experience that. Most of those things you can still do without him. Just because he's away doesn't mean you have to put your life on hold for him."
" I know. It's not that I don't know if I can do them. It's that I don't want to. To be completely honest. I really do love Eddie. But we've been dating for only a few months. And I feel like we're missing out on a few things that help build a good foundation. I know it's just childish things and they shouldn't mean so much to me. But they do. I only get to do this once. And I wanted to do it with Eddie."
Wayne nodded. " I can understand that. Doing all those things would create a stronger bond between you two."
" It would. But now that it's not an option. I don't know what's going to happen when I go to MIT. I know we want to be together. But he's already too busy for me. What happens when I finally leave? When I'm too busy? What are we gonna do?"
Wayne understood now why you were changing. It wasn't because you were being too dependent on Eddie for your happiness. It was the future you were worried about. It was learning how to cope with being your own person but still being the girlfriend of a rockstar.
" Darlin' that's a conversation you need to have with my nephew. You have to voice your concerns. Because if you don't, things will get too hard to deal with. And it might get to the point where a relationship isn't what's meant for you anymore. People say love concerns all. And it should. But sometimes a relationship calls for work. Sometimes it's very hard work. And right now for you and Eddie, it's hard. And I can't promise you things will get easier. But you guys have to talk and learn that it's not you two against each other. That it's you two versus the problem. That problem is communication. You can't hold back how my nephew makes you feel when he breaks promises. You have to talk to him about that. And about your concerns for the relationship in the future. Because if you do. I know you guys will make it. I want to see you guys make it."
"You do?"
Wayne chuckled. " Yeah. You're good for him. Since you've been around I have never seen my boy so happy. And before he took off he was doing really well in school...I know that was because of you."
You smiled.
" And I know if he would have stayed, he would have graduated with you."
You looked away pulling up the blanket again. " I wish we could watch each other get our diplomas."
" Me too."
You guys sat there for a minute just thinking about Eddie.
" I uhhh I should probably call him."
" Maybe after breakfast."
You smiled again. "Okay. Breakfast sounds great."
" Good. Why don't you get ready and I'll treat you to breakfast at Benny's."
You nodded and got up. But before you went to get your shoes. You turned around and gave Wayne a big hug.
" Thank you Mr Munson...I wish my father was like you."
Wayne smiled and hugged you back. He always wanted kids. He had Eddie and now he had you too.
...
After a lengthy conversation with you. Eddie felt better about the relationship. He was happy that you told him how you felt. And though he couldn't be there for all those things. He was going to try and see you.
A few months had passed and you were getting ready for prom.. And since Eddie couldn't take you, you asked Dustin to be your plus one.
The plan was to pick him up and go together. You told him not to worry about getting a tux or a corsage. You didn't even get a new dress. Though your brother offered to get you one again.
You never understood the whole concept of wearing a dress only once. So you were gonna wear your winter formal one.
Since Dustin was totally unprepared for the night. You said he could borrow Eddie's shirt that had a graphic tux on it. It was actually kinda perfect. It would be something Eddie would wear to be "formal".
You were finishing putting up your hair when your brother shouted down the hall.
" Hey. Umm when did you rent a limo?"
" What?" You hollered back. " I didn't."
" Did Eddie know you were going to prom?"
You walked out to the living room and looked out the window. Sure enough, there was a black limousine in the front of the trailer.
You rolled your eyes. " Yeah he knew. He must have thought I would want this."
You moved away from the window and went for the phone.
" Man aren't you special?" Your brother teased still looking out the window.
You were so annoyed. Eddie kept sending you stuff. And though you were grateful for all the clothes, all the jewelry, albums, flowers, and chocolates. The only thing you really wanted was a damn visit. You hadn't seen Eddie in five months. So yes. You were annoyed.
" If I was so special he would be here."
" Oh common kiddo. Don't be that way. I'm sure if he could he would be."
You rolled your eyes again and started dialing Eddie's number.
" Send it away. I want to go in his van."
" Are you sure?"
" Yes!"
The phone rang four times before Gareth answered.
"Hey sis?"
" Quiet I'm on the phone....Hey bud. Is he there?"
"Uhh-" Gareth mumbled.
" Hang up the phone and get your ass out here. The guy said he won't leave without you." Matthew ordered.
" Ugh! Sorry man. Tell Eddie to call me in two minutes."
" I uhhh... oh-kay."
You hung up the phone and went outside. The second your eyes met your stomach fell to your ass. You stopped mid stride seeing that beautiful face you almost forgot.
He was in an all black suit holding a corsage and a large white box. He looked amazing. His hair was in a glorious bun with treadles of hair framing his face. His eyes had a twinkle in them that you missed. All his gorgeous wrinkles showed as his smile got bigger.
Eds?
" Hey Angel."
Your first thought was to run to him. But then you thought you would give him a little bit of shit.
You crossed your arms. " So it takes a school dance to get you to come home and see me?"
Eddie's smile didn't waver. " Well normally I wouldn't be caught dead at one again. But I'd do anything to see you happy. And if that means going to another school dance for you. I will."
You watched as he went to put the stuff on top of the car and then turned back around. He tilted his head and put his hands in his pockets. Not taking his eyes off of you.
" You look beautiful baby."
You looked down and Eddie chuckled seeing you blush.
" Uhh so what does a guy have to do to get a hug around here?"
You looked back at him and he was wearing his perfect smirk.
You smiled too and started for him. All of a sudden you heard.
" Out of the way nerd."
Matthew decided he wanted to hug Eddie first. He quickly pushed past you and ran to him. Giving him a big bear hug.
You glared at them both laughing and embracing each other. Slapping each other's backs.
When they finally let up. They both smiled at you.
You shook your head.
" Hey man that was great. But uhh can I have a minute with my girl?"
Matthew nodded and went inside. Pushing you towards Eddie before he did.
Butterflies erupted in your stomach and you felt so anxious.
" Eddie." You whimpered.
Eddie jogged the short distance to you. Just before he hugged you. You threw yourself into his arms.
" I know baby... I know."
You were about to cry but Eddie leaned back and kissed you. Using one hand to cup your face.
The kiss made your knees weak and took your breath away. Eddie held you tighter once he felt you slump a little.
You finally needed to breathe so you broke the kiss and stared at his bow tie.
" Dustin."
Eddie loosened his grip on you. " I'll kill him!"
" No Eds." You giggled. " I asked him to prom."
Eddie furrowed his brow. " I thought you were going stag."
" I was but I just asked him at lunch today. I have to call him and tell him that the love of my life just showed up."
You gazed into his chocolate button eyes.
He was grinning like a mad man.
" Haha yup. I guess you can say I like to make an entrance."
You both laughed and kissed again.
" God Eddie.... I missed you...so much." You said between kisses.
" Me...too... baby...so...so...much."
After a minute or so you pulled away.
" Eds I have to call him. He's gonna worry."
" Y-yeah." He swallowed. " let's go call him."
Eddie turned to get the stuff he put down and followed you inside.
You went straight for the phone and called Dustin. While Eddie came and held you from behind.
" Hey bud."
" Hey! Are you on your way?"
" Umm...so here's the thing....Eddie's here."
"EDDIEEE!" Dustin squealed.
You pulled the phone away and winced.
" Henderson man. Calm down. You're gonna make my girl deaf." Eddie chuckled into the receiver.
" Shit! Sorry."
You laughed. " It's okay. Don't worry about it...so I called to say-'
" Eddie's going to take you to prom?"
" Yeah."
Eddie kissed your cheek down to your jaw. Then down your neck.
Oh god!
You cleared your throat. " I'm sorry Dustin."
" It's cool. Eddie's home."
You let out a soft sigh as Eddie's lips made their way to the other side of your neck.
" y-yeah. He - he is."
" Are you okay y/n?"
You cleared your throat again when Eddie pressed his length against your bottom.
" You're terrible." You whispered."
Eddie let out a nose laugh while moving his lips towards your ear and whispered as well.
" Can you blame me when you look so cute in this dress?"
He tugged your earlobe gently between his teeth before placing a soft kiss to soothe it.
"Stop it Eds. Matthew is within earshot."
Eddie smirked but continued on his mission.
"Y/n?"
" Uhh sorry umm Eddie's being a butt right now. Umm tell you what. Since I kinda screwed you over tonight. Eddie would like to make it up to you."
Eddie removed his lips from your neck to listen.
" He's gonna send a limo to pick you, Mike and Lucas up. You guys can mess around and get driven wherever you want."
" What?!" Eddie half whispered and half yelled.
Dustin was shocked. "Really?! I've never been in a limo before."
Eddie whispered again " Baby?!"
" Yeah no. You can totally have it for the night. Eddie and I are gonna take his van. He needs a reminder to be humble."
Eddie smiled shaking his head. You were right. He had been getting a big head lately.
" Awesome! Thanks y/n!"
You laughed. " No problem bud. I'll have Eddie send it over right now."
" Okay cool. I'll see you later. Tell Eddie I said hi."
" Will do. Bye."
"Bye."
You hung up the phone and turned around in his arms. Draping yours around his shoulders.
" So speaking about prom. I don't want to go anymore."
Eddie looked down at you with a brow raise.
He pressed against you and brought his face closer to yours.
" Sorry baby. We have to go."
He gave your cheek a quick peck before backing away.
" No Eds. we can just stay and cuddle."
Eddie shook his head. " Nope. We're going. Oh and speaking of dresses. I have something for you."
He went to retrieve the large white box.
" You look really pretty in that dress. But, this is a prom. And you need a prom dress."
" Eddie no. This dress is-"
" No. This is the dress you're wearing tonight."
You raised a brow and gave him a look.
" Sorry Angel." Eddie cleared his throat before doing that again. " Baby...girl of my dreams...this is the only prom we're gonna have...will you please do me the honor of not only attending it with me, but would you be so inclined to wear this special garment I specifically chose for the love of my life?"
You pressed your lips together to hold back your laughter. " You're too much Munson...I love it!"
" Well I love you so..."
Your cheeks got hot again and you couldn't bear to look at him. He could never know how pathetic you were for him. He most definitely would take advantage of that if he got the chance.
" Love you too. " You went to him taking the box and giving him a lingering kiss on the cheek.
Before he could grab you and give you a proper kiss you took off down the hall. Leaving Eddie in disbelief how just one look from you could bring him to his knees.
He definitely waited too long to come and see you.
He went outside to grab his luggage and sent the limo to Dustin's. After he went to say hi to Wayne.
Wayne followed him back to your trailer with a disposable camera in hand.
When you went to your room you put the box on the bed. Before opening it you looked over the Munson trailer. You stared for a minute. Then your heart leaped. You saw Eddie light on.
You smiled to yourself and opened the box. Your mouth dropped open. The dress was stunning.
Powder blue dress with silver embroidery around the waist. Beautiful white lace covered the chest and very open back. For a second there you thought maybe it showed too much. But since Eddie must have spent a lot on it, you were gonna wear it.
When you lifted the dress there was a pair of matching ballet flats and a sheer shawl underneath You laid the dress down and took off what you were wearing.
Not having a bra that wouldn't show you decide not to wear one.
Once the dress was on it fit perfectly.
" How did you get my size?" You said to yourself.
You went to the full body mirror and looked at yourself. You pulled out the barrette that pinned your hair up and shook it. You didn't like how your hair sat so you put it half up and half down. Adding a silver butterfly barrette.
You took a deep breath in and went out into the living room.
Eddie was standing by the front door holding your corsage. He was the first to see you.
For Eddie you were walking in slow motion. The way you moved so gracefully. You looked like an Angel. And when you looked at him with red in your cheeks. He nearly had a heartache.
" Close your mouth boy. You'll catch flies." Wayne teased.
He didn't even notice his mouth was open. Or how his palms got all sweaty. Or even when you stopped right in front of him and asked if you looked okay.
" Ed's?"
He blinked a few times and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Erm sorry Angel...you just... I uhhh...you look-"
" Beautiful." Wayne and Matthew said together.
" Y-yeah. So-so beautiful." Eddie stuttered
A little laugh left you.
You pointed at the flower " umm is that for me?"
" Shit! Y-yeah."
Eddie opened the plastic container cursing himself for being nervous.
He slid the blue orchid on your wrist. After he kissed the back of your hand.
" Alright kids. Let's get some pictures." Matthew said.
Finally after what felt like forever you guys went to the van. Eddie opened your door and held out his hand to help you in.
" M'lady."
You smiled. " Good sir."
You got in and he helped you put on your seatbelt saying.
" Hauling precious cargo."
He looked at you and grinned. "You really look amazing."
You peered back and forth between his big brown hues. " So do you Eds."
You watched him close the door and jog to his side.
Once he got in he looked around.
" Did you clean in here?"
You nervously laughed. " umm I hope you're not mad."
" Not at all. Smells good in here."
" Thanks. I showered." You joked.
Eddie chuckled." Okay so we're gonna need some music."
He pulled out a cassette from his breast pocket.
You smiled at the cover.
" You got it back?"
He popped the tape in. " Sure did."
You guys drove listening to the tape you made of them.
A couple of songs played before you turned down the volume.
" Eds? As much as I looked forward to prom. Do we really have to go now?"
" You don't want to go?"
" I umm I really don't want to spend whatever time we have with anyone else but you."
Eddie stole a glance at you and saw you fidgeting with your fingers.
" Tell you what Angel. How about we go and take our picture and stay for one dance. Then we can go wherever you want."
" Really" you asked looking at the side of his face.
" Yeah baby. I want it to be just us too."
You looked back down and smiled. " okay."
...
And that was exactly what you guys tried to do. When you guys got to the gym you went straight to the photo booth. You guys took a total of two pictures. One completely normal, and one silly one. For the last one you and Eddie held up your fingers to your head mimicking horns and stuck out your tongues.
After Eddie went to talk to the photographer to make sure you guys got the whole package he offered instead of just the photos.
When Eddie came back to you he led you to an empty spot on the bleachers. You had noticed you guys were getting awkward looks. Feeling completely out of place you hoped the band would play a slow song soon.
All of a sudden Chrissy approached you guys.
" Oh My God. You guys look so great! Y/n you didn't tell me Eddie was coming?"
Eddie stood up to give Chrissy a hug.
" I didn't know he was."
" I wanted to surprise her." Eddie said sitting back down with you. Putting his hand on your back.
He started rubbing circles on your exposed skin. Giving you goosebumps.
He smirked to himself. He was definitely going to worship you tonight.
" So Eddie. Behalf of myself and the prom committee we would like to ask if the upcoming rockstar is willing to play us a little something?" Chrissy asked with a smile.
Eddie got nervous again. He moved his hand from your back and put both on his knees.
" Oh... I uhh. I kinda just came to be with y/n."
You half turned to him" No. No. Go Eds. I know you can't pull off a full blown show. But you should."
He looked at you kinda worried.
You grabbed his hands and looked at them. " It's okay. I want to hear you play. I've ummm. I've missed hearing you."
Eddie brought one hand up to his chest and the other to his lips. " okay. Anything special you want to hear?"
" hmm...Caught up in you."
He smiled. " Perfect."
He gave you a kiss and stood up pulling you up with him.
" Alright Cunningham. One song."
Chrissy practically jumped up and down. " Great! Let's go."
You and Eddie followed her hand in hand.
Chrissy got up on the stage with Eddie jumping up. He held out his hand to help you up. But you held up your hand.
" I'll watch you from here."
" Are you sure?"
"Yes my love. I want to enjoy this from here."
Eddie absolutely adored that. Your love.
" Okay Angel. Don't go anywhere."
" Wouldn't dream of it."
Eddie gave you a quick smooch and went to find a guitar.
You looked in your purse for lotion for after. Then Chrissy got up to the mic.
" Hey guys! I hope you're having a good time tonight."
Your classmates cheered.
" Great! So I have a surprise for you. You all know that one of Hawkins finest has left us to pursue bigger and better things."
Eddie gave you a smirk.
" Well I want you guys to give a big round of applause for Corroded Coffin's front man and lead guitarist. EDDIE MUNSON!"
You looked around the gym when you heard your peers going nuts for Eddie. And by the look Eddie had on his face, he was just as surprised as you were.
Eddie gave you a look and shrugged. You smiled and nudged your head to the mic.
You watch him in utter amazement.
" Uhh hey. So um this is a special song. For a very special lady."
He gave you a wink. You instantly blushed. Eddie silently laughed. So damn pleased with himself that he could still do that to you.
He strummed when the drummer started to play. Once he sang the first couple of lyrics you started to nod your head and sway back and forth.
Eddie saw that look in your eyes again. The one he missed so much. It was the look that told him he was your world. He had worried a little from being gone for so long. That maybe what you used to feel for him might have lessened. But from that look and that look alone he knew it didn't. You were still very much in love with him. Like he was with you.
The whole five months the guys have been so busy promoting their music. Playing at small venues, and recording. That they barely had any time to relax. But no matter what Eddie was doing. He made that time for you. He didn't care that he would be completely exhausted or not at their new apartment. He would always check wherever they went if there was a phone nearby and that it worked.
He wanted to make sure that you knew you were still a very important part of his life.
That's why he came today. He had to move a few things around to be there. And though he was told that he shouldn't, he did. He had to make things clear to Mel that you were more important to him than the music was. And that it was only for a few days. So he was successful and made it to take you to prom.
The whole time he was playing and singing he didn't take his eyes from you. He liked seeing you dance. It was one of the few times he saw you truly happy. It filled his heart knowing he was the one that could do that for you.
Once the song was over he handed the guitar back and jumped off the stage. He was immediately swarmed by kids who pushed you away from him.
They were asking for autographs and saying stuff he really couldn't understand. He tried to be pleasant but the way they were grabbing at him had him flustered.
Out of nowhere he felt a small soft hand in his. Pulling him kinda hard. Suddenly he was being led away from everyone. His anxiousness went away once he saw who had him.
The second you saw his face when he was overwhelmed you reacted. You pushed through the crowd and grabbed his hand.
You were out in the parking lot before you knew it. Eddie stopped and pulled you into his arms. Holding you firmly.
"Thank you baby." He said just above a whisper.
" No thank you."
Eddie leaned back a bit to look at you. " For?"
You moved his bangs away and smiled.
" For coming. For playing that song...For showing up like you always do."
Eddie shook his head. " You don't have to thank me. I will always show up for you. And I wasn't late this time."
" No...you weren't."
"C'mon Angel. Let's get out of here."
...
When you guys left, Eddie wanted to take you to a fancy hotel in the next town over. But you weren't having it. Since Wayne was home and Bethany moved in. You guys couldn't be alone. So instead of actually going back to the trailer park Eddie drove to Lovers Lake.
Eddie opened the back doors and you both sat there watching the moon's reflection off the water. You pulled out your lotion and started massaging his hands.
" I missed this."
You smiled. " Me too."
Once you were done Eddie held you as you rested your head on his shoulder.
" How long do I get you for?" You asked with a small hint of sadness in your tone.
Eddie hung his head a little. " Four days."
You smiled and looked up to him. " Four days Munson?!"
He chuckled. "Yeah baby. I'll be here for your birthday."
You could have died from happiness. You gave him a quick peck on the cheek. " Oh Eddie."
He hugged you tighter. " Couldn't miss your nineteenth birthday."
You sat quietly in his embrace. This was too good to be true. It felt like a dream. Sitting by the lake in a beautiful dress, next to Eddie Munson. Never in your wildest dreams did you think this would happen. But here you were. In his strong arms.
You felt Eddie's hand move to the spot just about the zipper of the dress.
He started to kiss you.
"God baby. "Do you know how badly I need you?"
" Tell me." You said softly.
He kissed you all over your face. " It feels like I can't breathe without you. It's harder to concentrate on anything when all I can think about is you."
"Mmm." You moaned as he kissed your jaw to your neck.
" I worry about you...I constantly wonder what you're doing. And if you miss me too."
You moved away a bit to look at him " Eds of course I do. I feel the same way. All I want is to be in your arms."
"Baby please. Touch me...kiss me."
You pulled out your stolen scrunchie and gave it to him to put on his wrist. You hiked up your dress to straddle him and wrapped your fingers in his curls.
You kissed him with all that you had. Five months of built up angst, lust, love, and longing was put in that kiss. Making Eddie lose himself in it.
His hands were everywhere. His lips touched every inch of skin that was exposed.
"Can I take this off?" He said with his fingers teasing at your zipper again.
" Yes." You said into his mouth.
You kissed him once more then got off of him and moved more into the van.
Eddie climbed in after you. You sat with your back towards him, moving your hair to the side.
He kissed your shoulder as his hand went for your zipper. He slowly brought it down sliding the straps over your shoulders and down your arms. Kissing along the way. You turned once your breasts were exposed and laid down.
You watched Eddie lick his lips and take off his tie and jacket. He took off your shoes and went for your waist. While you raised your hips he took the dress completely off leaving you in just panties.
He took off his shirt and unbuckled his belt. You sat up a little taking out the barrette. Running your fingers through your hair.
Eddie hovered over you kissing you again.
You went for his slacks tugging them down.
"T-touch it. P-p-please." Eddie begged.
Your warm hand wrapped around him making his eyes roll back. You knew exactly how firm he liked it, how to stroke him. How to tease him.
He groaned into your neck trying so hard not to cum already. Five long ass months since you touched him. Since he got to kiss you and feel your warmth next to him.
" Condom Eddie." You whispered in his ear.
He looked at you and stroked your hair before getting up and taking his bottoms off. He looked for his wallet and pulled out a foil square. You bent your knees and brought them together.
Once the condom was on, his hands caressed your thick thighs and went for your panties. Pulling them off so carefully and slowly.
You laid down and watched him kiss your knees. Spreading them apart. He crawled up your body leaving a trail of kisses and love bites up to your chest. He swirled his tongue around your hardened buds before meeting your lips with his.
You pulled him closer to deepen the kiss. But moaned when you felt him moving his length up and down through your folds. Catching the tip on your entrance every little bit.
" Please Eds. I want you... please make love to me."
" Fuck! Okay."
He put his tip in causing a small moan from you. His thrust was slow at first. Giving you time to adjust to his stretch.
Your body trembled with anticipation. Waiting patiently for the final push that would send shooting pains of pleasure through you.
But Eddie didn't go for the sweet spot just yet. He wanted to savor this. The warmth radiating off of you. The small moans you produced. The way you pussy convulsed around his throbbing cock.
Ever since the first time you guys did this. It was all he wanted to do. He missed your tight wet pussy. He missed the taste of you and your beautiful sweet smell.
There have been times where your underwear wasn't enough for him. And his hand wasn't good enough. He even went to a sex shop to find something there that could help, but even the fake pussy couldn't give him what he truly wanted. You.
You with the pretty smile, you with the sweetest voice and moans he ever heard. You with your soft skin and warm hugs. You with those big eyes that he loved so damn much.
And now. After five months, he had you again. So he was going to make sure to savor every second, every kiss, every touch, every wonderful moan.
He buried himself in you. Making you whimper and sigh. He honestly never felt this good being in someone.
His thrusts were shallow at first. Pleasing you with just a portion of himself. But when he felt closer to his release he bottomed out in you.
At that moment both of you saw stars. A growl came from Eddie as a loud gasp came from you.
Your body ached and trembled. God you missed him. Over the five months your hands couldn't compare to Eddie. The way his solid frame was pushing against your plush self. The way his lips lingered on the slope of your neck. The way his curls tickled your face. Nothing and no one could make you feel the way he did.
He had you there in just a few thrusts.
But after your first climax you wanted him to go harder
Eddie slowed his hips. Kissing and nipping at your neck. He wanted to come so bad that it was incredibly difficult to not to. But he wanted to keep going. To make up for the lost time. Then you did something he wasn't expecting. You lifted both of your legs, holding them behind your knees.
" Harder Eds."
Eddie moved so that he could help you. He hooked one of your legs in the crook of his elbow and began snapping his hips to your ass.
"Sh-shit...Oh! Fu..." He grunted.
He went so deep that all you could do was whine and breathe hard.
" B-b-baby....god-god fuck!"
Your body jolted upward and your hands grabbed ahold of the center console.
Eddie kept pounding in you watching your tits bounce. He wanted them in his mouth but this position felt too good to move from.
He felt your walls suddenly clench around him. It was so tight it had him hissing from immense pleasure.
" Cum with me baby."
All you could give him was a small nod. That was because you were already coming.
Eddie could feel your wetness spread all over his balls and some on his thighs as he pumped his load into the condom. He let go of your leg and went to kiss you as you both were about to finish.
He slumped over and put his complete weight on you after. You started caressing his spine and tried to catch your breath. Then Eddie started kissing all over your chest and neck. Making you laugh at the tickles.
" Damn Angel. I missed this."
You sighed and agreed.
Eddie lifted his head a bit and started stroking your hair. " Where have you been all my life?"
In the background.
" Waiting for you to find me?"
Eddie noticed a slight sadness in your eyes. That tried to hide behind your smile.
" What's the matter y/n?"
You started playing with his curls. " Do...do I have to wait another five months to see you again?"
He looked down at the necklace he gave you for Christmas. He didn't want to ruin your birthday present so soon. So he improvised.
"I know it took me forever to get back to you. But I promise that we will see more of each other. Because I need you around. I feel like I'm not at my best when you're not around. So I promise you. We will be together more often."
You gently swallowed. " Don't make me a promise you can't keep. I know things are happening much faster for you guys now. I just don't want-"
Eddie held up his pinky. " I never break my pinky promises."
You studied his finger for a second before hooking it with yours.
He smiled and kissed you. After he pulled out and rolled off of you. He took off the condom tossing it somewhere in the van and pulled you into his arms.
You started playing with his tattoos when you noticed a new one just a few inches under his armpit.
You sat up and looked at him
Eddie smirked " What?"
You lifted his arm and ghosted your fingers over it." You got a new one."
"Yeah. Do you like it?"
" umm they're Roman numerals."
Eddie sat up and reached for your chin. " Do you know what day it says?"
You looked at it again, tugging at your lip. " It's the first day of school. When I fell."
He smiled. " Yup."
" W-why did you get that?"
He kissed your forehead and cupped your face. " It's the day my life changed for the better. I got to talk to you for the first time."
You looked at it again with tears in your eyes. You didn't know what to say. This was very romantic. But also very Eddie. Sometimes he did stuff without really thinking about it. And you felt like maybe it was a mistake.
You were a little too quiet for Eddie's liking. He knew exactly what you were thinking. He moved his hands and held yours.
"Y/n. I know how I get when I'm excited. And I just want you to know. That all the tatties I have is because I was bored. None of them have any real meaning behind them."
You met his gaze as he continued.
" Well except for this one." He pointed at the puppet master. " This of course is a homage to a sweet album."
You smile.
" But even with that one. It doesn't mean anything serious...this one." He said moving your hand to his new tattoo. " this one means everything to me. It's a reminder of where we started. I could have picked any day I spent with you. The day I fell for you, or the day we kissed for the first time, or even our first time. Because all those days are important to me. But none of those days can compare to that day."
" Talking to me was that special to you?"
Eddie brought both hands up to his lips pressing a soft kiss on each.
" Yes... You told me that you didn't want to switch partners. That you didn't think I was a freak. You listened to all my nonsense that night. You even lose sleep for me."
" I never minded it. I could listen to you talk forever."
" See that's why that day is important to me. Not only did I start to like you. But you became my friend. Somehow I knew that from that day on. I wanted you in my life... always."
Eddie reached up and wiped your tears away. You closed your eyes to try and calm yourself down.
" How do you do this?" You sniffled.
" Do what baby?"
You opened your eyes and saw his filled with tears too.
" Make me love you more than I already do."
He chuckled and blinked away his tears. " I don't know. I'm just saying how I feel about you. Normally it's hard for me to talk about what's going on in my head. But with you it's easy. Every time I look at you I see my best friend, my happiness, my future...my home."
You sighed and shook your head. " There you go again.
He shrugged and grinned "I'm sorry. I guess I just really love you."
You looked down at your lap. Eddie Munson just made you fall for him all over again.
After a second you actually took a look at yourself and started to softly laugh.
" What's so funny?"
You looked at him with a smirk. " We're having a full blown conversation all naked and sticky."
Eddie looked down too. " Oh yeah. We totally just had sex."
You laughed a little louder and looked out to the lake.
Eddie must have thought the same thing you were thinking. Because he jumped out of the van and b-lined it to the lake. He looked so funny. His mane bouncing behind him. His pale ass even paler in the moonlight.
You looked around for your underwear when Eddie called for you.
" Baaaabbbby." He sang out. " The water's perfect."
You looked back at him and he was standing in the shallow end motioning you to go to him.
" My underwear Eds."
" Nope! We're skinny dipping."
" Eddieee."
" Angel, if you don't get your fine ass out here-"
Eddie suddenly looked like he was pulled down.
" Eddie?"
You waited a few seconds before calling out again.
When he didn't respond, you ran out there jumping in looking for him.
You splashed around.
" EDDIE!?"
" Yeah?"
You look towards the shore and he was standing there with his arms crossed.
" Edward Eugene Munson!"
Eddie flinched hearing that.
" How dare you scare me like that?!"
" Got you in the water didn't it?"
" Yes but...I..."
You covered your chest and started to tear up. " You really scared me Eddie."
Now he felt bad. He got back in the water and went to you.
" I'm sorry Angel. I was just playing around."
You wrapped your arms around his shoulders and dunked him. Backing away so he couldn't get you.
When he came up he wiped his face and went for you. " Now you're gonna get it." He said, splashing at you along the way.
You yelped when his strong arms grabbed you.
He quickly dipped you in the water and pulled you back up.
You guys played around for a little while until Eddie felt that you were getting tired. He pulled you into his arms and held you close to his chest.
" Eddie?"
" Yeah Angel?"
" This is the best day ever...I'm really happy you came."
He smiled hugging you a little tighter.
" Me too."
