More Sherlock & Co Headcanons
Because y'all like the first ones so much.
Mariana is one of those heathens who eats the kernels at the bottom of the popcorn bowl and enjoys it.
John and Sherlock have a rotating cast of answers to the age old client question, "So are you two...?" which only serve to confuse the asker even more. It's an incredibly enjoyable sport. Sherlock often just plays dumb, to John's enormous amusement. It's their favorite inside joke.
When he does actually eat it, Sherlock's go-to breakfast food is a boiled egg and soldiers. Fight me. I will not stand for boiled eggs and soldiers slander they are amazing and Sherlock knows it.
John keeps a collection of bloopers/funny moments he's recorded during cases in a folder on his computer. When he's feeling down, he puts in his earplugs and listens to them. He never fails to get a laugh out of it.
Speaking of language headcanons in the last post, Sherlock speaks fluent Spanish (because of course he does). Sometimes he and Mariana have innocuous conversations in Spanish just to mess with John. He finally gets what it's like to be a stranger watching them all converse in BSL.
Sherlock has a strong appreciation for the musical arts. Once, after a particularly sour case, John took Sherlock to the orchestra to lighten his mood. Sherlock didn't express much outward enjoyment, still drained from the previous week's labor, but the next day the pieces they'd heard rang out through the flat as Sherlock's touch brought them to life from memory on his violin. John found this version infinitely more beautiful than any orchestra. and he even glimpsed the ghost of a smile as Sherlock lost himself in the music.
You know how everyone has a different little doodle they do when they're bored and they've got a pen and a bit of paper around? Well, Sherlock does mandalas and circle scribbles, John does little smiley faces and zig zags, and Mariana writes peoples names in calligraphy.
@obsessed-sketches and I both agree Sherlock wears a really heavy, well-worn coat for the deep-pressure stimulation. And a scarf, because those are absolutely splendid to play/fiddle with and being all wrapped up just adds a whole nother dimension to it all.
John uses Microsoft Edge as his default browser. Mariana's exasperated protests have been completely futile in convincing him to switch and to be honest, who knows if there's any hope left for him anymore.
Speaking of browsers, Sherlock would be such a boss at the 2048 game.
Someday I'm gonna have to write a dance lesson fic, because the idea of Sherlock teaching John to dance for a case lives in my head rent free for literally every SH rendition but these two especially. Sherlock freely infodumping about the history of each song he plays as he shows John how to waltz, John filling the silence with nervous rambling, that rapport setting in and them just falling into step after a few minutes and forgetting time is even passing... I know I mostly HC them as a QPR but dear god the intimacy in that may kill me.
Mariana once introduced Sherlock to the National Day Calendar. National Cellophane Tape Day, National Life Insurance Day, National Raspberry Popover Day, and the likes are now slipped happily into conversations at 221B under Sherlock's firm belief that each one is on par with Christmas in terms of their significance in the public eye. Slay, Sherlock. National Days are awesome.
John makes the cutest sleep noises.
Yk how i said Sherlock likes rainbow sour straps. If you've ever eaten sour straps, you'll know there are two ways to eat them: whole, or by tearing the colours into strips. Clearly, as a civilised human being, Sherlock does the latter.
SHERLOCK WOULD TOTALLY WRITE AWESOME POETRY AND READ IT OUT AND JOHN AND MARIANA WOULD BE STUNNED INTO AWESTRUCK SILENCE
Mariana wears those really big hoop earrings. You know the ones.

SLEEPOVER SATURDAY YAYYYY I have 2.
1. Because I’m still stuck in fucking Texas, top 3 best US states
2. Top potential AU’s for The Terror
Oh noooooo wishing you a speedy departure tomorrow!
I've lived a lot of places and done a lot of road tripping and without further details on which to define "best" I'm going to go with the three states I feel the most personal connection to and say Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan. I love Lake Superior, I grew up in that area and sometimes I am very homesick for it. I've been trying to develop the same feeling of connection to the landscape in New England since transplanting and I'm not going to lie, it is rough going. I keep saying I am going to try to get into hiking and rock identification so I can see the mountains and maybe 2024 is the year I buckle down and do that.
First off: Star Trek AU obviously. I'm really bad at coming up with plots and writing long fics but I am beginning to take notes for a Star Trek AU in case the Terror SciFi Fest happens again this upcoming May.
Secondly: Ghosts/spiritualism/haunted house AU. While I do enjoy a good modern AU from time to time, to me part of the draw of The Terror is the time period it is set. I am fascinated by the Victorian era, the advances in medicine during the time period, the rise in popularity of ghosts and ghost stories, and I think I'd get a lot of enjoyment out of researching to write an AU that takes advantage of this somehow.
Also, I am obsessed with haunted houses as they are used to represent familial trauma, codependence, grief and loneliness, etc etc, and I think it would be fun to take Crozier out of The Horrors only to put him into a different flavor of The Horrors <3
Lastly: Musicians/orchestra AU. Gonna be honest, I do not have any of the requisite knowledge to write this and it does not interest me enough to do this research. I want somebody else to write this so I can read it. However, I saw a post once that was the show writer going through and saying what each character's job would be if they lived in the modern day and what he said about Fitzjames was that he'd be a surgeon or somebody else with very specialized knowledge, someone who is the best at something. And while yeah, a specialist surgeon is this, and specialist surgeons are, in my experience, divas with complexes, for reasons of personal taste (dislike of the medical field irl and preference for show contemporary AUs over modern ones) I think it would be more interesting to just skip over the medical layer and make Fitzjames a diva with a complex.
This man plays the violin and he is the best at it and he and Crozier cannot stand each other because Crozier has been playing longer, does not care about the limelight, and actively scorns Fitzjames for doing so. I just have this idea in my head of Fitzjames saying to someone else that Crozier plays a perfectly serviceable, workmanlike violin, but he obviously doesn't truly care for it, he doesn't play with any passion, and Fitzjames who has been doing this his whole life and made it his whole life, the only thing he's ever been good at that he's had to hang all his hopes on, finds that intolerable. Meanwhile Crozier cares about the violin very deeply but doesn't really show it to anybody and keeps to himself because loving music and loving your coworkers are two different things.
Additional inspiration for this idea is the fact that when Phantom of the Opera shut down on Broadway a couple months ago (last year? What is the passage of time...) I saw a news article about it which said some of the people in the orchestra had been playing the show together since it started running in 1986. The drama within that pit must have been insane and I desperately want to read about it.

Sirius: While he's not being a mild hedonist trying to drain nobles for every fine food, wine or treat they've got in the building, Sirius has a lot more simple joys in life. Toasted bread with garlic, basil and butter; carnations in a variety of colors; buskers with violins and drums; public spaces late at night, like the market square, the stables or the library; his friend Kysteros' place; sharp sweet smells like oranges, peaches and wood chips.
Obitus: Rare gemstones. He loves rare gemstones so much, if you were to gift him one outright you'd have a friend for life. His collection halls are vast, with special containers for every treasure he owns to view at his pleasure. Aside from his hoarding pursuits, he enjoys herbal & floral teas, jasmines, the space of his forge, and his daily obstacle course run.
8. "The world is your oyster." What are your OC F/O's favorite hobbies? Do you share their hobbies? Have they taught you anything new?
Sirius: Does 'having a good time' count as a hobby? No? In which case Sirius' favourite hobby is bird-watching! He's got a real knowledge of birds of all kinds, whether they're from the human, fae or other worlds. If he had the spare time he'd probably invest in bird-keeping (nothing too dramatic, maybe some pigeons or finches). We both enjoy pointing out birds when out traveling, and he's helped teach me more about birds from outside the human realm.
Obitus: He's really into metal crafting, especially making gold/silver jewellery. Yes he wears a lot of his own creations, he likes to show them off. On the very rarest occasions, they'll decorate them with something from his hoard, but otherwise it's simple metal, maybe with some 'basic' gem/pearl decorations. I've been treated to a couple of attempts at basic metal-working, they've not let me close to the forge but I've done chain-linking and made some nice bracelets and a necklace! (We're not gonna talk about the assassination hobby)
28. "Let's agree to disagree." Is there anything you and your OC F/O fundamentally don't agree on and even sometimes bicker about? What is it, and who has what stance on the matter?
Sirius: Responsibility. Sometimes I have a lot of magi pressures to deal with, and Sirius generally recommends putting some of those pressures onto someone else who would be able to deal with it. But at the end of the day, these are tasks meant for a magi. Even if someone else could do them, I feel it is my responsibility to carry them out. I say it's necessary, Sirius believes that I shouldn't have to do everything. There's been a decent amount of bickering over this, but nothing severe has come from it.
Obitus: Neglect. Through a combination of being a very reclusive people, being technically immortal (like lobsters), and only really willing to become involved in a conflict if it involves a threatened item/group, then space dragons just don't really care about problems in the rest of the realms. Even when Obitus was stuck in the fae realm and caught up in its problems, he didn't want to get involved. It's taken (and still takes) a lot of arguing on my part for them to consider helping out with others.
37. "It's your fight but I'm in your corner." Is there anything that your OC F/O struggles with regularly or occasionally? How do they usually handle it? Do they ask for help or do they tend to withdraw? How do you try to help them when they reach out to you?
Sirius: General help, honestly. Familiars of magi tend to come from noble families, and while Sirius is technically from one such family, he chose to estrange himself and thus didn't gain any of the help or benefits from family connections/support. He's gone so long getting by with minimal support that remembering to ask for help is not his forte, and he runs the risk of emotional/mental burnout.
Obitus: Bouts of insomnia. They do take various teas for it, and on worse days they'll try to work themselves to exhaustion to try and crash into sleep. But sometimes they'll have a whole week where they don't get sufficient sleep and makes them feel very unwell (headaches, fatigue, dizziness). The sick feeling makes them want to withdraw a lot, but it also makes them hugely touch affectionate, so I tend to provide with cuddle sessions.
48. "Everywhere, in everything, all the time." What elements in nature (earth, wind, fire, air, stone, wood, smoke, etc) do you associate with your OC F/O? Why? What's your reasonings, if you have them? What would your OC F/O say is your element, and what would be their reasoning?
Sirius: Fire and stone. Sirius is capable of producing small 'meteors' of flame that encircle him, which he can also send shooting out towards opponents. Granted this move exhausts him. His strongest ability is called 'Aegis', where he summons a powerful shield to block himself and whoever is nearby. As strong and fiery as he can be when in a debate, his greatest strength is protecting his charge(s). He sees water as my main element - adaptive, healing but also destructive.
Obitus: Smoke and ice. Capable of moving incredibly quickly and silently, Obitus is certainly capable of fading in and out of a space plus passing through the air like smoke. His attitude can be pretty cold, though it isn't always bad, he's just very professional and distant from anything that isn't his interest/job. He sees air as my main element - a true force of nature.
50. "Who will take care of us, if not us ourselves?" How does your OC F/O practice self care? What do they like to do to treat themselves? What kind of body wash and shampoo/conditioner do they prefer? How do they help you practice more self care?
Sirius: A good self-care night for Sirius involves a half an hour bath with some really nice floral-scented bath oils to get the water full of foam bubbles and smelling pretty, and also so he can wash his hair in it. This is followed up by a sweet pastry (usually gets popped in the microwave to warm up for extra softness) and curling up on the sofa with a good book that he will inevitable fall asleep reading. I do like to nudge him to buy some fancier bath oils/bath bombs (especially if we're in the human realm), or encourage curling up in bed together so he doesn't fuck his neck up when he inevitably falls asleep. Meanwhile he likes to nudge me to enjoy baths full-stop - I prefer to go for quick showers, but he helps me see the benefit of stopping for a while and having a long soak. Sometimes we wash each other's hair. It's a nice time.
Obitus: Spa treatment. The full works. Bubble bath, extremely fancy body wash (with crushed rose, lavender, and rock salts), masseuse, claw buffing - he almost literally is glowing by the end. He even has a massive plush cushion that he can collapse in afterwards instead of his usual bed. He's definitely tried to get me to indulge way more whenever I do my usual self-care, and when I say I can't afford it then he persuades me to go through his spa regime. They have learned though this usually results in me being entirely unable to move (in a good way). Fair enough, room for two on the cushion bed.

IT IS TIME FOR ANOTHER ENTRY IN THE POTION AU!!
This is full of nothing and fluff, so prepare lmao
After a while, they began organizing group dinners, where they would all meet up in the evening and eat together. It took a bit of convincing Tommy's parents, but they accepted more easily when they realized it was just between close friends. Wilbur was already living on his own so it was no problem and Phil always was a free spirit. 
And so, at least once a week, they met up at Techno's abode to spend the night together.
Tommy was elated to see all of the furniture now 10 times his size, and all the objects and decoration. "We're gonna have to try and play Hide and Seek, big man. Because this looks like the best fucking playground!" Wilbur, meanwhile, was looking in awe at the whole thing. It felt weird to be so not rightly scaled, but he got used to it soon enough.
Phil was the most surprising of all, due to the fact that he wasn't surprised at all. Even unbothered, in fact. Techno wondered if he was faking it to make him feel better, but everything seemed honest. For someone who claims to never have interacted with giants, he acted as if this was his everyday life. One day he wanted to ask him about that, but he figured those were not the time.
And so they would gather around, bringing each a part of the meal so they could enjoy together. 
Sometimes, techno would drink the potion and join them, other times, he would stay at his regular size and simply enjoy the conversation. It was fine like that, Techno liked it. And his friends didn't seem to mind so it was perfect. (Well, Phil kind of minded, but he was always like that whenever he as much as looked at the potion so that wasn't really anything to go by.)
But it was nice, Wilbur would even bring his guitar from time to time, noticing Techno had a violin. He hasn't touched the instrument in a while but seeing Wilbur play the guitar, it was very tempting. 
"You should try and play again, Techno! We could even make a duet! That would be fun"
"Maybe one day, yeah… but I would need to practice, it's been years."
"Well I don't know violin" Phil perked up "but I'm around Tommy almost everyday, so I'm used to bad sounds" he chuckled
"WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN??"Tommy argued, baffled, which made the other three laugh. 
"But yeah, I think I'm gonna try to play again, it could be fun."
"How did you even get a violin this size? Are there giant shop owners ?"
Techno crackled at that "Na. I made it myself. Took a while, but I'm proud of the result."
Wilbur made an "ooohh" before returning to his meal with a smile. 
It was pretty quiet for a while, everyone enjoying the silence before Wilbur perked up again. 
"I'm wondering, are there giant animals? Like cows or chicken? How do you eat?" 
Phil's fork almost dropped on the plate and looked at Wil with wide eyes, while Tommy added "hey yeah! You never eat with us when you're all big, how come?"
Techno smirked a bit at the question, and his hand reached for a counter. "Actually" he said, grabbing and showing an object they knew all too well "This is why I brought the potion in the first place." 
Wilbur looked confused, but kept smiling, while Tommy exclaimed "wait, really?!?" 
He chuckled "yeah. If creatures like that exist, I never found any. So I started hunting and eating stuff at human size, so when the potion effects wears off, it's like I ate a meal my size. That's how it started, pretty funny when you think about it."
Wilbur laughed a bit "yeah, who would've thought it would lead to this."
"Not me, that's for sure" techno confirmed.
The rest of the meal was spent in comfortable silence. Yet he could feel another question lingered in the brunette's tongue. Carefully, he bopped his hair with one of his fingers, and ruffled his hair gently, which made Wilbur laugh. It wasn't holding yet, but he was getting better at the whole contact thing. "What's stuck in that head of yours, Wilbur?" 
The other continued to laugh a bit even after techno stopped, and he sheepishly smiled. "Well, I have a question, but it might come off as very rude, so I don't know if I should ask."
Phil turned to Wilbur, with an almost scolding glare "wilbur, don-" 
"It's alright, Phil." He lifted a hand before turning his gaze towards Wilbur "ask away."
"Well… About the, hm… myths. Is that… is any of it true?" He finally said, clearly trying to word it inoffensively. 
It was vague enough that Tommy didn't know what he was talking about, and Phil stayed silent, though his brows furrowed. 
Techno bore a small, earnest smile. There was something that could be mistaken for sadness, but it wasn’t quite. 
"Maybe a long time ago, but not that I know of. Giants heard of it too, but from tales and legends taking place so long ago the line between fiction and reality is a huge blur." he couldn't blame Wilbur for his curiosity, and he was surprised the question didn't even make him nervous. He was glad. Very glad. 
"And I didn't meet a lot of giants in my lifetime, but none of them did it, so yeah. Maybe it was true at one point, but I think if it still was, humans would clearly be aware of it."
Wilbur hummed, satisfied with the answer. He took another bite of his meal "yeah, I mean to us, it's only a myth, so it makes sense. Thanks." 
"No problem?" Techno had an amused smile on his face. Wilbur was a weird one sometimes, asking the weirdest or scariest things with only a childish smile on his face. 
Tommy turned to look at wilbur, then technoblade, then wilbur again, before speaking “What the fuck are you two talking abou-”
“Nothing” They hummed in unison.

Eventually, the night fell completely and it was time for the humans to go home. They waved goodbye and walked toward the exit, but before they walked through the door, Wilbur turned around sharply and prompted "Can I sleep at your house tonight?" 
Techno, phil and tommy were all taken aback. "You can go home if you want" he reassured the two blonds "I just really like Techno's house." 
"Uhh" techno hesitated. It's not like Wilbur was in any danger, he was careful not to fall from heights… and he would be dead sooner than letting his friends get hurt. 
"You don't have to, if you would rather sleep alone" the brunette was quick to add once he saw the small tension in Techno's stance.
"I think it'd be fine. I spent nights at your house after all, it's only fair. Yeah, you can stay." Techno settled on, earning another bright smile from the human. 
After a couple of minutes, it was just the two of them. It was a bit awkward, seeing as it was the first time Techno was at real size on a one on one. But Wilbur didn't seem to see it that way, enjoying the view. 
"Want me to join you down there?" He asked. 
"Nope! You don't have to worry about a thing!" Wilbur simply replied, grabbing on a drawer handle and slowly making his way up. Techno was quick to put his hand below in case he fell.
"You could have warned me!" Techno complained, to which the other simply laughed a quick "sorry". Not stopping at all. 
After almost falling only twice (and techno almost getting a heart attack two times), Wilbur made it onto a safe platform. The two sighed,one from exhaustion, the other from relief. And he laughed again.
"Tommy wasn't lying. This house really is an amazing playground." He stated, earning a snort from Techno.
"Did you want to stay at my house so you could play with the room without any remark?" He asked, amused. 
"Maybe" Wilbur admitted. “But I also like to spend some time with you. You’re always a comforting presence.” 
"Pff, yeah, right." Techno tried to ignore the warmth coming for his cheeks and ears. “You’re just saying that so I help you with something.” 
“No, no, I mean it, techno. You’re a good friend.” And when he turned to meet the human’s face, it was a simple, honest smile. They stared at each other for a moment, unspoken words being said. Unspoken promises being made. 
Techno stared at his friend’s eyes and saw: not fear. Not méfiance, not worry. His eyes were full of acceptance. Filled with joy and curiosity and wonder. It was the first time he had ever seen such an expression, and yet this look was dedicated to him. Wilbur had waited for them to be in absolute intimacy to offer him this moment.
A good friend.
Techno laughed. Quietly at first, but it grew and grew until the sounds filled the whole room. Wilbur could probably feel the vibration through his whole body but he couldn’t stop. The brunette soon joined in and happiness filled the entire room for god knows how long. Maybe it was two minutes, maybe it was an hour. 
The laughters quieted down eventually, and Techno noticed the fond way Wilbur looked at him. The warmth quickly reached his whole face as he failed to keep a neutral expression. He coughed to wash away his awkwardness. “What- what with that face?” 
"Nothing. It's just nice to see you less restrained." Wilbur smiled "you're always so careful when we're all together." 
"Well, I have to be careful around humans." He hummed, pointing a finger at his friend "you're so small."
"Eh. You couldn't bruise us even if you tried" wilbur shrugged off. "But it's nice! We should do this more often if that means I get to hear your laugh like that more."
Techno cursed himself for the smile that wouldn't wear off. 
"Yeah… maybe we should."

Musical Muse: A Yusuke Kitagawa x fem! Reader one shot

Yusuke Kitagawa.... Most knew him as the former pupil of Madarame, the infamous artist who plagiarized the art of his students. But, to you, he was your best friend since middle school.... Scratch that, your boyfriend since you both entered high school. Though going to two different high schools, the two of you helped each other through slumps as much as possible. In fact, around summer, he told you about the Phantom Thieves and even introduced you to them. Ann and Makoto had easily accepted you into the group, Ryuji, Morgana and Ren all following their lead.
After 2 years, Yusuke and you were living together in an apartment building in Shibuya. You practiced your music while Yusuke often painted beside you. Though, around Valentine's Day in your third year of being together, he hit a slump and was rightly frustrated. Knowing how he could get, you had gently tugged him away from his work to relax, only allowing him his sketchbook and pencil as the two of you went out together. "Dear, where are we going? I have to finish that art piece..."
"Yuse, I love you, but you are not going to get anything done staring at a blank canvas. We're gonna have a picnic at our usual date spot, and I'm going to play for you." You held up the violin case you were carrying, the instrument Yusuke knew was your favorite. He interlaced your fingers with his, trusting you as he always did. The two of you ate together while he looked for inspiration. After having your fill of the food you had prepared, Yusuke grunted, laying on his back as he watched the stars appeared in the sky.
"It's no use, my love. I cannot find inspiration anywhere I look." Yusuke groaned, making you giggle and move so you were above him, looking into the grey eyes you loved so much.
"Then maybe it's time you stop looking and start listening." You replied with a smile. His grey eyes blinked in confusion before he moved a piece of h/c hair out of your face.
"I'm not sure I follow, my beloved." Yusuke told you.
"What I mean is, I'm about to help you rise out of your slump. Now, come on, sit up." You took his hands and helped him sit up, though not without him kissing the back of both your hands in princely fashion. "I'm going to challenge you to do something you've never done before, Yuse. I want to close your eyes as I play, let your mind paint the picture for you. When I'm done, transfer the image in your mind to the page."
"Interesting... You're basically going to show me a new way of inspiration." Yusuke summarized, gaining a nod of agreement from you before you moved to your violin case. Your s/c fingers lifted the latches and opened the lid. Inside was the violin you had had since you were a child.
"I'm not sure if I ever told you about why the violin is my favorite.... Have I?" You asked, peering over your shoulder to find your boyfriend watching your frame closely. He shook his head.
"I don't believe you have, my darling." Yusuke answered, causing you to smile.

His hand gently held your cheek, keeping his lips against your own for a moment longer than you had intended, but the kiss was sweet nonetheless. You smiled before standing to your feet, backing up a bit before getting into position to play your violin. With a deep breath, you began to play, noticing how your boyfriend had closed his eyes with the first note. You closed your own eyes as you played, conveying your emotions in the piece.....
By the final note, the both of you opened your eyes at the same time and locked onto each other, sharing a smile between you. Yusuke had that spark of passion in his eyes once more. After rising to kiss you in thanks, he sketched what he had seen in his mind. But.... Oddly enough, he wouldn't let you see it until the exhibition he had submitted it to. He had insisted that you go with him on Opening Night, so there you were, and when he finally showed you the piece....
Your breath was taken away. It was a portrait of you playing, but he had painted you in a way that seemed like the music you were playing was magical. Your eyes were opened in the portrait, as if you were looking at him with a loving look in your eyes. He wrapped his arm around you, holding you close as you laid your head on his shoulder. "The love in your eyes is what I felt listening to you play. The song you played held sadness, but I noticed that it turned to love and happiness at some point in the song.... I felt like you had written that composition just for me, my muse, that the song was about us. I wished to capture the beauty of the music in the painting as a thank you for always being by my side, and for making me the happiest man alive in doing so. I love you." You smiled up at him, sharing a kiss with him.
"And I love you, Yusuke Kitagawa." You told him before gazing at his newest masterpiece together.

Hi friend! It’s possibly just you (or one other person, in case of separate anons) but that is enough! I was absolutely serious. 
Note on the notes! This is not all of it, because my notes for this chapter were often repetitive and very messy, and some older notes were from four years ago when I didn’t bother writing things out properly, so they barely make sense even to me. But! I’ve done my best to sort everything in some kind of linear order, and removed most of the repetition. And, well, you asked for it... sorry! 🖤
Ian shows up in the morning, Mickey digs out the magazine Iggy stole from Amelia’s dentist’s office the other day and confronts Ian about the big-ass article in Rolling Stone about IAN’S BAND, says he’s listened to some of their songs, takes out a paper where he’s written down some lyrics that sound strangely familiar.
You’re famous!
I’m in a band, people know about us right now, tomorrow they might not. I’m not famous.

Ian talks about Mickey recognizing him because of Frank. Hints that there might be several songs inspired by Mickey. It’s awkward as fuck, didn’t want you to know.

Oh yeah, I had a plan. 3 dates, dinner and a movie, day out with Yev, dinner at my place turned vigorous love-making. Second prong; cohabitation, engagement, marriage, then on our wedding night I tell you about crushing on Justin Timberlake when I was 12,

Mickey thinks his face might be on fire.

Ian invites him to the concert and gives Mickey his phone number. Mickey makes sure Yevgeny stays with his mom on saturday, and after work he goes home and gets ready. Showers and cleans himself thoroughly, puts on cologne and a band t-shirt he hasn’t worn in ages, it’s gotten kinda tight on him since he got it. (He puts on a dress shirt first, tucks it into his pants and glares at his reflection).
He’s on the guest list when he gets there, the girl in the box office can’t find him at first but then Anne shows up and points him out, he’s on the VIP list and gets a pass that he’s told he needs to carry so it’s visible. He makes a point of shoving it in the admission guy’s face, but then shoves the ostentatious thing down the pocket of his jeans. Anne shows him in and tells him about the gig, about how the fan club got started. Anne says he can go backstage but he says he’ll pass, thank you. He gets a beer and finds a good spot, there’s a balcony halfway through the venue where he’s got a perfect view of the stage without having to stand in the front.
They text a little, Mickey says he’s there and Ian says he’ll make a sign when they play a song inspired by him.
run-through of the concert, Ian touches the side of his nose when the song is about Mickey. He’s sexy as fuck, and has some ridiculous stripper moves.
He takes off his hoodie at some point, and sweating through his tank he and Anne put on gloves and start hitting the barrels with crowbars.
Anne is the maestro, maybe Ian crowd surfs at some point? Warren Ellis that violin, man. He has little routines with Anne, and some with Jon too. One song, Anne gets one of his guitars and he does noisy stuff with his violin and plays on the oil barrels with Stran, completely in sync.  
They got some good stage banter going, and at some point Ian does a Tom Waits impression, and Anne groans and says he’ll sing the whole thing if they’re not careful. There’s a reason why he’s
For the encore, Ian touches the side of his nose and they start playing a song, Anne saying that this is a first. It looks like Ian is about to sing, but then it looks like he changes his mind and they start playing a song that Mickey sure as fuck hope isn’t about him. The insufferable man on a date right next to Mickey tells the woman he’s with that they were about to play the mysterious title track from their last album that never ended up on the record

the guy talks about how he’s got a friend working as an engineer in the studio and he’s sent him an early demo version. It’s not their best song by far, but it’s cool that pretty much no one else has heard it.
Mickey asks the girl if she’s ok with this joker, and she says she’s fine. He offers to get her a cab or something, if she wants to get out of there.
She says she’s not interested
Lady, if I wanted to get with either of you, it wouldn’t be you. Just sayin, I ain’t picky, but that guy would’ve gotten the boot ten minutes into the date if he were here with me, no offense.
WHAT IF.
The concert is over, and crowd starts to let up. Then a fight breaks out at the front and Mickey makes his way towards it. It’s over before he gets there, and sees a guy in his 40s with a bleeding nose, and Lip shaking out his fist, a security guard between them.
Mickey talks to the guard and defuses the situation, putting the bleeding man in the position of a sad overzealous fan. It somehow warms Lip to him, absurdly, and he finds himself apologized to, Lip shaking his hand and wincing when Mickey grips his bruised knuckles a little too hard. Lip vaguely explains that that was an old ex of Ian’s, a real piece of work, and then offers Mickey to come backstage with them to see Ian. Mickey declines.
It’s Lip, Carl and Debbie (Liam is too young, and Fiona too pregnant).

Mickey gets another beer at the bar as people mill towards the merch and exit, he sits on a stool with an eye on the backstage passage. He watches the band come out to talk to some of the lingering fans and sign shit. Ian comes out and is immediately surrounded by fans, he locks eyes with Mickey across the room and Mickey raises his beer in a silent cheers. Ian comes up to him after a few minutes, he looks damp and exhilarated and unexpectedly nervous,
How was it?
Not bad, Gallagher.
he asks Mickey over. He has to pack up his shit and do the rounds, but he’ll be done in half an hour, tops. Mickey says he’ll meet him outside.
Ian leaves and Mickey finishes his beer, watching Ian talk to some fans, signing shit and taking pictures. He goes for a piss and then goes out for a smoke.
Ian comes out after twenty minutes, carrying two guitar cases and a large wheelie-bag. Mickey takes one of the guitars off his hands and they walk together.
(maybe Ian has a banjo and he gives it to Mickey to carry and Mickey is all really? I wanna kick your ass so bad right now, country boy, but then carries it anyway.) (banjos are cool)
Walk from the club. Mickey mentions talking to Lip. They talk about Ian’s Tom Waits impression. You’re not musically illiterate at all! Talk about Mickey’s Radiohead tee that he stole from a hookup when he was sixteen, he’s grown into it now. Talk about Ian’s onstage dancing, used to be a stripper, well, not saying you can’t still do private performances (?? you know what I mean! this is not what they’re saying but you’ll remember it) (Note from 2020: I DID NOT REMEMBER IT.)
Talk about wanting to learn playing the trumpet. Don’t have trumpet playing lips.
”Sure you and your lips can do whatever you set your heart to, I believe in you.”
Looks at Mickey and smiles.
”What?”
”You’ve been flirting with me since we first met, haven’t you?”
”Maybe.”
”Huh”
“What?”
“Oh nothing.” “Just re-evaluating everything you’ve ever said to me.”
”Re-evaluate this;” gives Ian the finger.

Ian tells him a little about his different instruments, Mickey picks up the beat up guitar Gus first gave to Ian and strums it, Ian asks him to play him something but Mickey snorts and says he’s counting on getting laid tonight and him playing would be detrimental to that plan. Ian doesn’t think so, but accepts it when Mickey gives him the guitar.
”I’ve walked some thousand miles,” he starts softly, eyes on his left hand, moving over the strings, ”I have slept many hundred nights, and people’ve said hello and bye through the years since you were mine. But don’t think I’ll stop my mourning, don’t I know it’s overdue. Just because I’ve gotten older, none the wiser I cry for you.”
”Honey, cutie, sweetie-pie,” ”My darling boy, sweet old times, as long as I keep you in mind I will remember what love is like. So, don’t think I’ll stop my mourning, don’t I know it’s overdue.”

Ian plays the song and when he’s done, Mickey kisses him and they have really enthusiastic sex on the couch. Mickey is about to leave after when Ian invites him to stay,
How about some long-ass foreplay on the couch and then they move into the bedroom.
They start on the couch, they take it to the bedroom, they collapse on the bed after and Mickey is feeling too good to argue when Ian mumbles at him to “stay”.

Mickey reads the headlines out loud as a customer comes in and asks Etch about something they’ve lost the other day, and Etch starts rifling through boxes behind the counter as Mickey moves over to sit down in Ian’s booth, rifling through the magazine.
M: what am I looking for?
I: I marked the page
E: what’s this note?
Mickey starts reading the article, realizing that the blurred picture is of Ian, and the interview is with Ian, and holy shit. Ian is legit famous.
Etch starts reading the list of coffees, eventually turning the page over and pointing out that there’s a phone number.
Iggy comes to the diner in the morning, Etch is rifling through stuff behind the counter and Mickey is doing the rounds with the few guests still there after the morning rush.
Iggy shows him the magazine he found at the dentist’s and Etch is in the background like wtf is this, reading from Ian’s note with the coffee orders, Mickey only half listens, trying to take in the fact that Ian is fucking famous.
Etch says there’s a phone number too and Mickey brushes him off.
Then he’s like, hold the fuck up! And gets the note from the trash and tries the number, and Ian fucking answers. And they have the you’re famous conversation on the phone and voila, Mickey has his number and vice versa.
So Mickey calls Ian in the morning, then there’s text talk during the day.

So, you’ve had my number for x days and you only now decided to use it?
That’s cold.

At some point Mickey starts capslocking and sending lyrics to Ian, who has to explain through text why he’s written songs about Mickey, saying that he’ll point them out tonight.
HERE’S A QUESTION
SHOULD I SKIP THE WHOLE “WRITING SONGS ABOUT MICKEY” BUSINESS??
Isn’t it enough that Ian is famous and kept this fact from Mickey? Isn’t the writing songs business a little creepy? and if he did write songs about Mickey, would he really publish them without Mickey’s consent? No. Maybe I’m deliriously tired and about to fall ill right now, but I actually think I should skip that part. It’s a little sad because it’s been part of this idea for three years, but if I’m uncertain about it now imagine how I’m going to feel about it later?
When I started writing this story, it was supposed to be a quick and silly thing, and now it’s something else. It’s not important or anything, but also it is. To me. And making a decision on the rating was a big deal for me, and I think this is another one of those things. I’ve been holding on to this idea for so long but when I really think about it, is it even romantic? It’s romantic in that kind of teenage dream way, maybe? It’s more romantic to me if they fall in love for reasons other than Ian writing songs. But he’s written NTW, and he still thinks about performing it live, but we skip the whole thing about songs being about Mickey.
So they talk on the phone in the morning, and then there’s a text coming in after a little while asking if Mickey wants to come to the show.
HEYHO IT’S A REVOLUTION AND I FEEL FREE
Mickey and Ian text after the show (after Mickey declines going backstage) Ian asks him to meet him round back in twenty minutes. When Mickey goes out there, he sees Ian talking to a couple of fans by the bus and Mickey hangs back to smoke while he waits. The fans leave and Ian looks around, checks his watch, he has a bunch of guitars with him.
I AM LEANING HEAVILY TOWARDS MICKEY KISSING IAN HERE. He’s like “Stop, hold this” giving Ian back the guitar, so he can grab on to him and kiss him, smiling against Ian lips as the guitar tips over and clatters against the asphalt.
They’re outside Ian’s house, Ian says he has to get up at an unholy hour tomorrow. Invites him in anyway.
They’re in the elevator, then they’re in Ian’s apartment. Ian plays him the song, Before sunset ending.

They smile at each other like fools and Mickey feels like he is exactly where he’s supposed to be, and there’s no rush. Fade to black.
Etch finds the paper, says there’s a phone number on it. Mickey dials the number and goes out back as it rings out. When Ian answers, he reads a question from the interview and they talk.
He goes back into the diner and basically blows the whole thing off, it doesn’t make any difference to him and he has to go back to work. Yevgeny does his homework and Iggy leaves, and Ian invites Mickey to the gig via text. Etch invites Yevgeny to stay over at theirs for a movie night.
Does Mickey tell Yev about the gig?
Start with Mickey out back, smoking. The phone rings and he waits for Etch to take it, but it keeps ringing. He bangs the door and yells PHONE and then it stops ringing. He kills the cigarette and goes back inside. Etch is behind the counter talking on the phone and going through the lost and found, looking for whatever the caller has lost. Mickey clears a table. It’s afternoon. Etch hangs up but keeps going through stuff in the box, talking to Mickey, when Iggy comes in.
It’s maybe more like afternoon (?) when Iggy comes in and shows Mickey the magazine. He calls Ian and they have a quick conversation (he probably goes outside to have it, to escape his audience) and they establish that Ian is sorta famous. Then they text back and forth a little, until Ian invites him to the show.
Mickey calls Svet to arrange it so Yev can stay with her, and then accepts. He goes home after work to eat, have a shower and change out of his clothes. He wears the only band tee he owns, mostly because it’s funny and because it’s kinda tight and he doesn’t think he looks too bad in it (and a dress shirt is way too much for a concert not-date, not that he tried on a couple first. Then he does a little bit of cyberstalking only to find very little personal information and a lot of crazy fans. Maybe he watches a couple of music videos, but they’re all really weird cartoons so they give him nothing. They’re cool though, and guess the music’s alright, even though he doesn’t have a connection yet to it so it’s hard to tell if he likes it.
Yevgeny calls, because Mickey switched the days and he wants to know why. Mickey asks if he knows about the Broken Bells, and Yev’s like duh who doesn’t? And freaks out when Mickey tells him about Ian. He doesn’t tell him about the whole date situation though, just that he’s going to the concert. Maybe Yev asks for some merch.
Mickey takes an Uber to the venue, even though it’s not too far from the diner (but on the other side, so at least a 30 minute walk) and it seems like they’ve already started letting people in. He hangs back until the admissions office is clear and then tells the lady that he’s on some kinda guest list. She can’t find him, and he’s about to give up and go home when he sees a familiar figure in the background. He calls her Stay-puft first, but then also remembers that her name is Anne and calls her that too. She remembers him, and finds him on a different (VIP) list, the venue staff woman is embarrassed, but Anne is borderline flirting she’s so nice about the mistake. Mickey gets a pass that he’s supposed to keep around his neck, but he shows it to the guards and then tucks it down his back pocket. Anne shows him inside the venue and asks if he wants to come backstage and say hello, but he kindly declines.
He has a quick peruse of the merch table (he checks the CDs, and then sees a smaller table next to the merch with a guy handing out pins, Mickey talks to him and finds out that it’s “fan club” pins to commemorate the gig and Mickey asks if his VIP pass gets him one, it does, and then the guy asks if Mickey wants to sign up for the newsletter) and then gets a beer, before finding a good spot on the mezzanine floor. He’s got a balcony railing for support and beer holder, and he’s got an excellent view of the stage. The floor is filling up with people packing themselves against the front. He texts Ian saying he’s here and they text a little back and forth. He gets someone to watch his spot and goes to the restroom. There, he finds a kid getting cornered by a middle-aged man. The kid looks vaguely familiar and not older than sixteen. Mickey steps in and casually accuses the guy of creeping on a kid and the guy immediately backs off, the kid says thanks and that he’s eighteen (because it’s an 18+ gig) and Mickey says sure.
Getting back to his spot, There is a douchebag on a date behind him that he wants to move away from, but he doesn’t want to surrender his good spot. He decides to tune him out, he’ll hopefully shut up once the set starts. It’s just a couple of minutes after eight when the lights dim and a song comes on louder than before, and the band start coming out on the stage. Ian is wearing jeans and a hoodie, like he normally does, but he’s clean shaven and his normally smiling face is set in blank determination. Anne is the front person, and she commands the audience with the slightest gesture. It’s obvious that the venue is filled with old fans, they all know exactly what to do exactly when she asks them to do it. Ian’s got like four guitars and a whole lot of other shit around him, and he’s super focused on doing his stuff, but now and then he does little routines with Anne and Jon, and gets a big cheer for his occasional solos.
A few songs in, Ian gets up to stand on one of the oil barrels, and Anne starts banging on it with a crowbar. That’s when Mickey starts to really get into it. It’s cool, and it’s a lot harder than Ian made it out to be, but kind of theatrical at the same time. Ian is brilliant, even though he dances like an uncoordinated stripper.
There is banter between the songs, mainly between Anne and Stran (girl sure bangs those drums!) Anne starts banging one of the oil barrels again and Ian and Jon do a little step dance next to each other across the scene.
At some point Ian takes off his hoodie. He’s wearing a white tank and he’s already sweating through it. He gives his guitar to Anne and puts on gloves. Him and Stran do a little bant-y thing and then they start a new song by both banging the barrels in unison while Anne and Jon start playing (maybe Jon plays something else, like an electric piano or a marimba?). At the crescendo of the song, Ian takes out a baseball bat and goes to town on the barrel, sweat shining on his muscly arms and his wet hair flopping down his forehead.
They go off the stage, but come back when the crowd chants a song, stomping their feet and clapping their hands. Anne says they’ve got one more song for them, and they start playing. She moves away from the microphone and it looks for a second like Ian is going to step up and sing. Douchebag behind Mickey tells his date about an unreleased b-side to the last album. But then Ian steps back and says something to Stran, who nods and moves into a slightly different beat. Without blinking Anne, steps back up to the mic and sings the last song.
Some of the crowd lingers by the stage after the lights have gone back on, but most move towards the bar or the merch table. Mickey hangs back to watch the crew take down the stage, and the two oil barrels being handed over to someone in the audience, along with set lists and left-over picks. Walking down from the mezzanine floor to go look for the restrooms, a fight breaks out on the floor. Mickey immediately recognizes one of them as Lip and the other one as the creep from the bathroom, and intervenes by clearly positioning himself on Lip’s side and reminding the creep that he could get him in trouble, the creep backs off and agrees when Mickey tells the security guards it was an accident (in a way that isn’t obviously helpful, but in the end still makes sure that Lip isn’t hurt or arrested for punching a guy) (because he did, he punched a guy, who is thrown out by the guards after Mickey’s intervention). Lip, Carl, Debbie, and Liam is there, but it’s only Lip who knows who Mickey is. He hangs back to talk to Mickey while his siblings go backstage (and PROBABLY DOESN’T tell him a little bit about the guy being Ian’s ex, making it clear that Lip really doesn’t like him). He also apologizes to Mickey for last time. He asks if Mickey wants to go backstage, but Mickey declines. He’s decided earlier with Ian through text that he’ll wait for him and thinks it’s better to do it somewhere that isn’t backstage where he might get asked questions and have to talk to people who aren’t Ian.
He gets another beer and stands in the bar next to the merch, watching as Ian and the rest of the band come out to sign some stuff and shake hands. Ian still looks slightly damp from sweat, even though he’s obviously changed clothes and run a towel through his hair. Mickey wonders if his skin tastes like salt. He drinks his beer.
Ian comes up to him after a little while, asking well? (or texts him, which probably makes more sense? But I also want Mickey to see Ian post-show)
Not bad Gallagher, not bad at all.
Ian looks pleased and asks if Mickey wants to come over, even though Ian has an early morning. Mickey says yes and Ian asks him to wait until they’re done packing up.
Mickey finishes his beer, goes to the restroom (where he sees douchebag by the urinal) and then he goes outside to wait for Ian. (He talks to douchebag’s date and offers to get her a taxi before the guy comes out.) He smokes a cigarette, and before he knows it, Ian is by his side, carrying a fuck ton of guitars. They decide to walk, for some reason, talking on the way.
HEY
Ian says he’s got a car coming and they walk a little bit to where they’re getting picked up. They talk about trumpet lips and stuff and Mickey kisses him. They get interrupted by the car arriving, and Ian picks up his guitars and says “you coming?”
Fuck yes
They sit in silence in the car, but it’s a good one. Ian says
Lip told me what you did back there.
He didn’t tell you shit.
He did, told me you stepped in and stopped him from getting arrested
He was getting his ass kicked, someone had to help the guy
And Liam told me you got him out of a tough situation in the restroom
That was Liam? Some pedo’s creeping on a kid by the urinal, I’m not gonna stand by doing nothing.
You know that’s not what happened
Yeah, well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
He isn’t a pedo, and Lip would’ve beat the shit outta him if you hadn’t stepped in.

They talk about Ian’s Tom Waits impression. You’re not musically illiterate at all! Talk about Mickey’s Radiohead tee that he stole from a hookup when he was sixteen, he’s grown into it now. Talk about Ian’s onstage dancing, used to be a stripper, well, not saying you can’t still do private performances (?? you know what I mean! this is not what they’re saying but you’ll remember it)
Talk about wanting to learn playing the trumpet. Don’t have trumpet playing lips.
”Sure you and your lips can do whatever you set your heart to, I believe in you.”
Looks at Mickey and smiles.
”What?”
”You’ve been flirting with me since we first met, haven’t you?”
”Maybe.”
”Huh”
“What?”
“Oh nothing.” “Just re-evaluating everything you’ve ever said to me.”
”Re-evaluate this;” gives Ian the finger.
”That an invitation?”
”Fuck you is what it is,”
“sounds like an invitation.”
That’s when a taxi pulls up and Ian walks toward it

They ride in silence
They carry Ian’s instruments from the car, and Ian says something cute
Mickey’s like “Stop, hold this” giving Ian back the guitar, so he can grab on to him and kiss him, smiling against Ian lips as the guitar tips over and clatters on the asphalt.
They’re outside Ian’s house, Ian says he has to get up at an unholy hour tomorrow. Invites him in anyway.
There he asks Ian to play him something that other people don’t get to hear (mostly to be a cheeky monkey, but also because he wants it) and Ian plays him None the wiser.

I'm so happy that you love Folklore too! It's not just my favorite Taylor Swift album, but easily one of by favorite albums, full stop :) Here's a fun challenge: which Folklore songs remind you of a certain ship? Taylor Swift’s latest album is a masterclass of musical poetry and storytelling. Rarely do I download every song a musician puts out on a new album (I tend to pick and choose), but I can genuinely say I never hit DOWNLOAD so fast in my life before than I did with Folklore! I love all sixteen tracks! I’ve been listening to them on a loop for two days straight and I imagine that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Also, YASSS! That is a fun challenge! It’s also one I can manage because I’ve been thinking about how certain songs/lyrics apply to many of my ships since I first started listening anyway. Prepare yourself. This is gonna be long. 😁
Okay SO, for Literati... 
If I’m angling to lean into s3-s6 angst that was Rory and Jess at that point in the OG series, then I’d say the 1 is a good fit. That song has the same energy as someone who’s writing a goodbye letter to a loved one that will never be sent. It’s cleansing. Cathartic. An exorcism of feeling. It absolutely reeks of regret and longing with just a touch of look-back-over-your-shoulder-and-wish, just wish, that things could have been different:
“But we were something, don't you think so?”
“And if my wishes came true It would've been you“
“But it would've been fun If you would've been the one”
However, if I’m in more of a They’ll Come Back to Each Other mood with Literati then I think this is me trying screams Rory and Jess. That song emanates nostalgia! It’s haunting in tone (with the echoes, with some slight vibrato). The lyrics bleed with feeling, with emotion that should have rusted long ago but hasn’t. Love is still as red as it was at the beginning of everything only now...only now there’s realization and an attempt at atonement for past mistakes...
“I didn't know if you'd care if I came back I have a lot of regrets about that Pulled the car off the road to the lookout Could've followed my fears all the way down And maybe I don't quite know what to say But I'm here in your doorway“
It's hard to be anywhere these days When all I want is you You're a flashback in a film reel On the one screen in my town (the town, of course, made me think of Stars Hollow)
I just wanted you to know That this is me trying At least I'm trying
For Darcy and Elizabeth, I think seven works well for them in spots. If you listen to the song, there’s a little bit of an echoey timber to the way Taylor sings it and that gave me the sense of how classic love stories/literature kind of ripple across time, you know? How the pages may crinkle or yellow over the years, but they still leave their mark. Plus, there’s also the piano in the background. Almost feather light. It mixes with what sounds like violins in places. Idk, it has a slight P&P 2005 vibe about it to me:
“Please picture me in the weeds Before I learned civility” >> (Because did Darcy learn civility before or after Lizzie eviscerated him mid-proposal at Rosings? Did Lizzie learn to temper her prejudice before or after Lydia ran away with Wickham?)
“Passed down like folk songs Our love lasts so long“ >> (Elizabeth says herself she’s going to be happier than Jane because “[she] laughs; [her sister] only smiles.”)
I have a couple for Klaroline, too. hoax jumped out at me for them first because it’s layered with darkness and angst. The imagery pops. It’s all smoking guns and eclipsed suns and screaming on cliffsides; which, for a pair of supernaturals, and for an Original who has a history of leaving blood in his wake, I think some visuals of misery and violence are a fitting thing. I’m also obsessed with the piano in this. The way she strokes her fingers over the keys - quick tap, tap, taps then a slow one or two in places - gives you a sense of running. It’s a great parallel to her lyric about “sleepless nights.” Here are some other Klaroline-heavy lyrics in this song:
“You knew it still hurts underneath my scars From when they pulled me apart But what you did was just as dark Darling, this was just as hard As when they pulled me apart” >> (This whole section just booms with “I’ve shown kindness. Forgiveness. Pity. For you, Caroline It was all for you” energy.)
“Your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in Don't want no other shade of blue But you No other sadness in the world would do“
peace is the other song that had me crying in Klaroline. I like the softness of it, the vulnerability. I imagine it more from Klaus’s perspective, though, because it strikes me as more confessional in nature. Like it’s a revelation that’s being dragged across his teeth and he wants to scream. Almost as if these aren’t necessarily feelings he wants to share, or wants known, but there’s just no holding them back now. He’s thrown off the lid. Caroline needs to be able to walk toward him with her eyes wide open, so he only speaks truth, he only speaks honesty now. Similar to hoax, this song has darker imagery as well. There’s fire and fences and trenches and all that jazz:
“Your integrity makes me seem small You paint dreamscapes on the wall“ >> (Same energy as “you’re strong, beautiful, full of light.”)
“And you know that I'd Swing with you for the fences Sit with you in the trenches” >> (basically a promise that he’d fight FOR her and WITH her)
“But I'm a fire and I'll keep your brittle heart warm If your cascade ocean wave blues come All these people think love's for show But I would die for you in secret“ >> (THIS IS THE PART THAT HITS ME THE MOST BC so much of Klaus’s love is shown not spoken, so yeah, he dies for her in secret all. the. time. already. There are 5 other ways I could interpret that as well. But I will spare you haha)

“Would it be enough If I could never give you peace?” >>With supernatural enemies everywhere, there won’t be much peace, will there?
I get walloped with Braime/Jaime and Brienne feels every time I listen to epiphany. Like, it’s actually rude how much this song makes me think of them. I can close my eyes and hear their swords clanging, taste the blood of their injuries on my tongue; feel the ash claw their throats, sting their eyes. Just--ah! The two of them serving, fighting back-to-back, two knights with an unspoken oath to protect a love they haven’t even voiced out loud yet...*cries*
“Only twenty minutes to sleep But you dream of some epiphany Just one single glimpse of relief To make some sense of what you've seen
“With you, I serve With you, I fall down Down Watch you breathin' Watch you breathin' out Out“
invisible strings makes me think of Shirbert/Anne and Gilbert. I love the pluck of guitar strings and how it has this air of innocence and sunshine and green grasses about it even though it’s being told/sung from a hilltop of experience. There’s so much imagery in this song, so much color and figurative language, that I can’t help but think it’s perfect for our imaginative dreamy-eyed girl and the boy who’s adored her since he first tugged her pigtails and called her Carrots in that schoolroom:
“Green was the color of the grass Where I used to read at Centennial Park >> (Can’t you just picture Anne lying in the grass, a book in her hand, flowers in her hair?) I used to think I would meet somebody there Teal was the color of your shirt When you were sixteen at the yogurt shop“

“And isn't it just so pretty to think All along there was some Invisible string Tying you to me?“ (Love the idea of the string representing their friendship, how it never snipped. How it only braided together, growing tauter, closer, all the time.)
august hits me with a waterfall of Darvey/Donna and Harvey feels. There’s a wistfulness about this song that settles in my gut, twisting it with longing, with musings of all those Almosts in relationships that were so close to coming to fruition then never did. It’s so incredibly reminiscent of how Donna and Harvey toe the lie between friends and almost lovers who-are-nearly-there-but-not-quite for 12 years. IT HURTS SO GOOD.
“Back when we were still changin' for the better >> (THIS IS SO EMOTIONALLY RESONANT IT HURTS) Wanting was enough For me, it was enough To live for the hope of it all Canceled plans just in case you'd call”
But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine >> (Obviously I’m swimming in the angst of this until my fingers get all pruny.) 
Finally there’s mirrorball which is Jisbon/Jane and Lisbon all the way! It’s funny because when I first listened to Folkore I thought that’d be one of the last songs I’d pair with a ship?? YET HERE I AM. Jane was in the carnival circuit growing up and I cannot, for the life of me, stop attaching him to all the descriptions of the circus/revelry. So much of his schtick throughout the show comes down to trickery and observation, which he uses to size people up, and sarcasm, which he often employs as a defense mechanism to keep people at an emotional distance. I like the theme of this song for him and Lisbon. As the mirrorball, he’s shining his true self only for her. She’s the only person who sees his “shattered edges”; she’s not distracted by all his “glistening.” Here are my favorite lyrics that are applicable to them:
“I'm a mirrorball I'll show you every version of yourself tonight
“I can change everything about me to fit in You are not like the regulars The masquerade revelers Drunk as they watch my shattered edges glisten” >> (Okay, so this makes me think Jane’s on camera confession to Erica Flynn: “I’m looking for someone who…uh, someone I can trust. The Signs as Symphonies (or just symphonic works)
Being someone who just graduated with my BA in music and is will be pursuing my MA in Musicology in the fall, I'm a bit of a music nerd. This was a long time coming, but here it is. Please enjoy!
Aries:
Schubert - Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished” (1822)
The DRAMA. But seriously, this symphony is so beautiful. It’s beautiful balanced, it occasionally has huge outbursts of drama and sudden dynamic changes. It frequently modulates to major which provides a nice balance to the otherwise minor work. It goes from dramatically chaotic and quick to a calm waltz-like melody. The work itself only has two movements, hence it being nicknamed the “Unfinished” symphony. These sudden changes in mood, the short-lived dramatic/passionate outbursts, and the fact that this work was left unfinished is what lead me to associate this with Aries. Their outbursts rarely last long, they often leave things unfinished, and they can be a bit dramatic at times.
Taurus:
Beethoven - Symphony No. 7 (1811-12)
An amazingly stable and consistent work with subtle hints of sensitivity. It has incredibly driving rhythms which I think can be compared to the stubbornness of a Taurus. There is some drama, as with much of this music but it’s much more calm in this case. It’s driving but in a way that feels more like a steady, determined walk than a climatic charge forward. This work was composed when Beethoven was working on improving his heath in a Bohemian spa town. This is a creative work born from a time when the composer was working on his self-care. Sound familiar?
Gemini:
Elgar - Enigma Variations (1898-99)
This isn’t a symphony, but this is something full of orchestral works so I’m including it anyway because it seems appropriate. This work consists of fourteen different variations on a theme, each variation represents someone in Elgar’s close circle of friends. There’s a wide variety of sounds in this work, similar to the way Geminis can easily switch between topics. Additionally, this work reflects the importance of the friends which Elgar had in his life, similar to how a Gemini’s complexity and occasional bubbliness can lead to popularity. I had the hardest time figuring out what work to give Gemini.
Cancer:
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique” (1893)
The Russian title of this symphony is “Патетическая” meaning “passionate” or “emotional.” It’s truly a work that tug’s on one’s heart strings, and it’s quite dramatic. Tchaikovsky himself had a hard time composing the work and even tore up the manuscript at least once when he was doubting his abilities. It’s said that his brother Modest suggested the title after hearing it. When it was time for first perform the work Tchaikovsky was quite excited about it. The emotions surrounding this work and the beautiful emotional roller coaster it takes you on when listening to it are wholly appropriate for the sign ruled by the Moon. (Tchaikovsky, unfortunately, died 9 days after premiering this work)
Leo:
Semtana - Má vlast (1874-79)
This is technically a set of 6 symphonic poems, not a symphony. However, this work is a representation of the Czech composer’s intense pride in his homeland (hence the title, “Má vlast” = “My homeland”) and everything he loves about it from the course of the Vltava to the warrior Šárka and the legend of the Blaník mountain. The beautiful harp opening of the first poem and the immense pride and love you can hear from the brass and strings. Although the emphasis (and love) of home that this work has almost leans into Cancer territory, it’s the pride and the occasional fanfare-ish instrumentation that makes me say Leo.
Virgo:
Mozart - Symphony No. 25 (1773)
There’s no programmatic backstory with this one but the clear organization of this work while cleanly organizing various themes screams Virgo to me. It’s not too extensive, everything is clean cut and in its place. It opens a bit dramatically but it never develops too intensely. There were, indeed, risks taken which are interesting for the time it was written, however, nothing was too extreme because the crowd at its debut still absolutely loved this work.
Libra:
Haydn - Symphony No. 104, “London” (1795)
This opens with a monothematic movement (a movement that uses one theme as a basis for the entire thing). It has the occasional drama to draw in your attention, but overall it’s simply a very well balanced, easygoing piece of music. Some may refer to it as boring but it’s still beautiful and well written with some subtle innovations to keep the listener entertained and to keep the work interesting. It never gets too gritty, sticks to traditional form and remains as beautiful as ever. Even at its most suspenseful, it remains light.
Scorpio:
Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique (1830)
I was originally gonna list this as Pisces because most of this is a prime example of escapism and living in an opium induced dream. However, the drama, extremes, and obsessiveness of this work scream Scorpio. This may be a dream but it doesn’t end well, he actually dreams of his own doom and of his soul being dragged to hell before being taunted by witches. This work transforms from a quiet dreamy opening to a light dance movement then eventually it becomes a dramatic work reflecting the beheading of the main character and the damnation of his soul--all of which is tied together by the idée fixe. It’s appropriate for Scorpio if you ask me.
Sagittarius:
Dvořák - Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” (1893)
This work is inspired by the experiences that Dvořák had while living in the United States in the 1890s. It draws influence from the music he heard across the US from various cultures (namely Black Americans and Natives). Some of the music he heard while in the States reminded him of music he heard in some European countries. He was influenced by not only the music but also the things that he saw. The blending of cultures and experiences that he does in this work is truly worthy of being associated with Sagittarius if you ask me.
Capricorn:
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 4, “Fate” (1877-78)
I honestly love this symphony, it has a lot going on in it and it’s beautiful. It was dedicated to Tchaikovsky’s best friend Nadezhna von Meck, which was quite something at the time because it meant he was acknowledging her to be his equal. Tchaikovsky stated that the opening of this work is representative of the the ways the universe prevents one from attaining their happiness. He says that there’s no way to escape this reality and one just has to take it as it is, “no haven exists.” He also incorporates traditional Russian themes into the final movement, a touch of tradition. This heavy emphasis on the grimness of reality as well as the dedication to a friend he was long loyal to, is all Capricorn.
Aquarius:
Beethoven - Symphony No. 3, “Sinfonia Eroica” (1803-04)
This work was dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, the man which Beethoven believed to embody the anti-monarchal ideals of the French Revolution (at some point he even titled the work “Buonaparte”). It’s a representation of heroics (eroica=heroic), being someone who saves the people and works for the greater good. A work dedicated to the idea of revolution while also being a landmark piece in western music history? What could be more Aquarian?
Pisces:
Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade (1888)
This is another one that isn’t technically a symphony, it’s actually a symphonic suite. It opens big and includes a well known violin solo, the texture frequently changes in this work. It was intentionally written to create a sensation of fantasy, like a dream. The composer intentionally avoided creating movement titles that were too specific, and instead decided he wanted to create titles which were more vague. He wanted the listener to hear this work as something vaguely themed, he wanted it to take the listeners through a fairytale. The only thing he kept clear was the main title “Scheherazade” because he wanted the listeners to know the main inspiration for the style in which he wrote this work. The vagueness and the elements of some fantastical story is undoubtedly Piscean.

Okay, I'm not sure if you have requests open but I've had this on my mind for a few days now. So, if you're feeling up to it, how about a Species-Swap-Shorby drabble?
I am very very fond of the species swap idea, which I remember being brought up before. For this case, we’ll say Grillby is a war vet who runs a bar and Shore is still a dancer. A rather fiery one.
This got pretty long so I’ll put it under a cut. Also, this kind of turned into a summery of how their relationship would happen in the even of a species swap but it’s not how the story of OoF is going to be progressing. This is just a what if kind of thing.
Grillby isn’t exactly what one would call a social person. Which is a little weird considering his career choice as a bartender. But the regulars like him for his role as a silent listening ear who also happens to pour the alcohol. That suits him just fine.
What doesn’t suit him is his employees dragging him out to social events. Which tends to happen every few weeks when they decide he’s working too much and drag him out someone to unwind and ‘relax’.
Being in a massive crowd of people is not his idea of relaxing. It’s some grand opening of some big new hotel slash spa slash…T.V studio? Whatever it is, it’s being opened by that monster robot Mettaton or whatever his name is. It’s supposedly the first of twenty nationwide and it looks like most of the city is here to celebrate the opening.
It sure is a change in attitude compared to when monsters first came to the surface three years ago.
“Grillby, you’re going to age prematurely if you keep scowling like that.” One of the the older members of the serving staff nudges his arm playfully. “It’s not like the bar is going to explode if you’re not there.”
“The kitchen literally caught on fire the last time I was gone. And I don’t like crowds.”
“Trust me, there’s a good reason for this one.”
There’d better be because he’s sweating and not just from the heat. There’s too many people here and it’s making his skin crawl. It’s fine, there hasn’t been an attack on monster settlements for a long time now and there’s security and-
The lights dim and his gaze is drawn to the stage in front of the hotel. The people around him go silent as the spotlight reveals a single figure covered head to toe in a dark robe of some kind. A deep beat starts to echo through the speakers set up around the whole area, shaking his bones with the intensity. And then, as a lone violin begins to play, a hand extends out of the cloak, reaching towards the heavens.
A shining, fiery hand.
The music speeds into a fast paced tempo and the dancer steps forward, shedding the cloak to reveal that it’s not a person at all. It’s a fire monster, one clad in shimmering burgundy dress that flairs about her as she spins. The cloak on her hand catches fire and he gasps along with the crowd as briefly, she’s encased in smoke.
When it clears, the robot is there with her, also dressed in a shimmering outfit that matches the fire of his partner. The two of them begin a dance that speaks of two forces battling against each other and yet moving in perfect harmony. The fire being barely seems to even touch the ground, movements fluid and utterly inhuman. Embers trail from her hands and feet and sparks brightly snap from the flames that make up her hair. She kicks up into the air and he can see a delighted smile even from this distance, bright eyes gleaming. For just a brief moment, they seem to land on him, giving him no more than a second of eye contact. Her eyes are bright, like stars caught in flame.
And for once, Grillby finds himself unwillingly speechless, his heart pounding in his chest.

“The food here is supposed to be amazing!” Faith drags you towards the quaint little bar. Little sparks of lightning flash through her cloud like hair, racing down and tracing patterns over the surface of her face and arms. “And I heard the owner has hired a few monster chefs so you know they’re gonna be friendly to us.”
“I hope so,” you mutter. The last place didn’t exactly have a warm and welcoming atmosphere and you’re literally made of fire. “I’ve already had to scorch off more than enough creeps to last the rest of my life.”
“Trust me, this one will be the place.”
You step inside and immediately, you know she’s right. There are monsters here, a lot of monsters and many of them are sitting together with humans. The sound of the bell above your head causes a few heads to turn and for a moment, conversation becomes muted. A thing you’re very used to. Living fire is not exactly something most of these people see every day.
Faith pulls you up to the bar. You feels eyes on you as you pass by. You ignore them. You take a seat and wait for the bartender. Judging from the mop of bright ginger hair just visible over the bar, he’s digging for something in a cabinet. You don’t want to startle him so you lean over slightly and clear your throat with the soft crackle of snapping embers. “Excuse me?”
“Be right with you,” he murmurs, glancing up. He freezes, eyes growing wide. Ah, shoot, you shouldn’t be leaning over him like this, you’re scaring him. You move away.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” you say, flashing with a few dark streaks of red. You don’t ever think you’re going to stop feeling bad every time you startle a human even though there’s really nothing you can do about it.
He’s still gaping at you but then he stands very suddenly. Oh, he’s tall for a human. Under his red hair, his skin is flushing. It matches the light stubble on his face. “N-no, that’s-I’m sorry, I shouldn’t stare.”
Aw gee, he’s kind of cute when he’s all flustered. “It’s okay, I’m used to it.”
He frowns slightly at that. Then- “I’m sorry but…are you the one that danced at the opening of that new hotel a few weeks back?”
You blink and then smile. The flash of bright colors reflects off the glasses on the bartender’s face. “Yeah, that was me!”
He smiles too and it makes the corner of his eyes wrinkle. “That was an amazing thing. You were stunning to watch.”
Oh geez, now you’re going blue. “Thank you very much,” you whisper.
He’s staring again, the expression oddly fascinated. He blinks and straightens. “Order what you like, it’s on the house. For both of you,” he adds, nodding to Faith.
“Oh! Are you sure? Won’t you get in trouble for that?”
The corner of his mouth twitches upwards. “I hope not, considering I’m the owner of this place.”
Your flames snap loudly. The owner? “Does that make you Grillby?”
He nods, and sticks his hand out. “It’s very nice to meet you Miss….?”
You hesitate, gaze dropping to his hand. You won’t hurt him with your flames, you know that but does he know that? He’s surely just being polite. But it would be rude of you not to accept the handshake. Slowly, to show him that it won’t hurt, you lift your hand and very gently clasp it around his human one.
He’s soft. Kind of squishy. And cool compared to the harmless heat of your hand. You smile at him, hoping he can see it through your flames. “I’m Shore. It’s nice to meet you too, Mr. Grillby.”

The chance visit turns into another and then another. You come to his bar often now and it’s so much easier to talk to you than it is the others. Maybe it’s your flame. He’s always loved campfires and the sweet smell of burning wood. But more than that, he finds himself oddly at ease around you. You’re bright, both literally and in personality and just…fun.
He actually finds himself looking for you on those nights when you don’t come to the bar, disappointed when the tinkling of the bell rings because of someone else.
He runs into you at the beach once. Seated on the sand and staring out at the water. You brighten when you see him and gesture out to it. “Isn’t it beautiful?” you ask him. “It just goes on and on. Does it ever end?”
“Eventually,” he replies.
“I wish I could go out in it.”
“Why? Wouldn’t that hurt you?”
You laugh and it makes his heart flip in his chest. “Yeah, horribly so. I know it’s weird for a fire monster to be so fascinated with water but-” You wistfully stare out at it. “I don’t know. My Soul feels like maybe it was meant to be out there.”
But you’re not out there. You’re right here, next to him.
He doesn’t say that out loud.

It’s a few days after you and Grillby sat on the beach. He’s usually composed while at work but you can see that he’s nervous about something. Humans are so easy to read sometimes. Though admittedly, Grillby can be tricky sometimes. His face sometimes slips into a carefully neutral expression, mostly around others.
“Would you…um, there’s a place where….I mean, I know I shouldn’t ask this, you’re a customer but….”
It takes him a few tries. He’s adorably shy and you absolutely love seeing the color in his cheeks when he blushes under your teasing. Eventually, he blurts out, “Would you like to go to the aquarium with me?”
You’re startled but you say yes. So you go and it’s amazing and it’s breathtaking and for the first time in your life, you feel like you’re underwater and it makes your Soul leap in your chest and it drives you forward when Grillby beams at your excitement and you place your hands on his cheeks and almost giggle when they bulge with shock.
It’s the first time you kiss.

The first time you spend the night, the night of the anniversary celebration, he knows that he should’ve insisted that you go home. But you could see he was nervous, even if you didn’t understand why. And how can he tell you why he’s shaking under the sound of the fireworks? How can he tell you that the thunder like cracks rip through him and throw him back to those nights when the entire city echoed with the sound of bombs and a single misstep could mean the end of your life?
Just like it ended the lives of his team.  
But when he wakes in the middle of the night, screaming and crying for the friends he lost that day, you’re there and your gentle warmth dries the tears on his face and grounds him. You pull him back, you whisper comfort in a language he can’t understand. He gasps while you hold him and chase away the demons that haunt him, for just a moment.
It’s the first time he’s cried in years.

When a glass thrown in anger misses Grillby, when it splashes against you instead, utter agony has you screaming on the ground while your core desperately fights to reignite the wet patches on your arm and face. Your skin is cracking, it’s crumbling under the heavy weight of water soaking into you. You sob from the pain of it.
Grillby is screaming at the man who did it. Through the haze that threatens to pull you into darkness, you see him pounding his fists into the man’s face. There’s blood there.
Ah, that’s right. Humans bleed. It’s so strange. They don’t dust like monsters. Like you. Dust is trickling from your arm and down your face. It itches.
Then Grillby is there, he’s desperately trying to say something. Then, something else splashes against your face, something that is like water but isn’t. This…this is oil, it’s thick and it’s flammable and your flames greedily eat it and your fire roars with the pain of being forced to so quickly shift from embers to an inferno.
It does the trick. You’re okay but your arm will probably scar.
Grillby forcibly throws the man out of his bar and comes to you and holds you close. He’s shaking.
And under the pain, you feel….
Warm.

The first time you whisper, “I love you,” to him, Grillby feels as though his heart might burst right out of his chest. The two of you are dancing and it’s just you and him in the entire world in this moment. And when he kisses you, he feels as though he is the one on fire. It burns in heart and flows through his blood. He wants you to stay by his side, he wants to forever feel the heat of your flames against his skin.
You gasp quietly under his mouth as he grips you with a desperation that surprises even him. “I love you,” he murmurs as his mouth continues to press kisses against your face. Your flames tickle against his cheeks, almost too hot to bear.
You return his kiss just as fiercely.
