HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

[ Oh man this post got long (and surprisingly serious) fjfjfjffjjf I wrote this 2 days ahead of time because I was so excited about it ahahaha --- I'm wishing you all a wonderful 2024!!!!!

2023 was a year of surprising development for me. I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, or if I'm simply moving into a different mindset. I loved this year! It was awesome, and I'm so happy to see that I've written MORE for Nnoitra this year than I did in 2022 ( even though my overall word-count went down from 290 000 to 280 000 ). I can't say I completed many of my goals ( or any of them LOL ). I had lots of goals for 2023, but I was unable to complete them. The past few months, especially, have brought forth big changes in my creative flow and focus.

I've realized that I need to change my priorities, to better fit my new mindset.

Roleplaying is no longer going to be my main focus. In the past, whenever I've wanted to write, I've always focused on finishing drafts, asks ect. I've mostly written on here, since that's what I prefer. Or, rather - what I used to prefer. This is not to say I don't have muse for Nnoitra, because I always feel inspired for him. What's changed are my priorities. I've come to the conclusion that what's important to me is creating stories. Since Nnoitra's story ( main verse ) has become so stagnant, it feels less important to me. I know I can drive the story on, push it forward and thus find it important once more, but - I don't want to do that. I want to create my own, original stories instead. Becoming a professional writer has always been my dream, and that's simply not possible to do when I'm prioritizing rping. Roleplaying is going to have to take the backseat.

--- That being said, I'm absolutely not quitting! I can't imagine myself not writing for Nnoitra, so I'll be writing on here like before, and I'll even try to be more consistent. An enemy of mine in 2023 has been procrastination. One of my goals for 2024 is to conquer this, so that I can be more efficient with my time. I think that by dedicating less time to roleplay, I'll be more efficient when I do sit down and write for my muses. My activity the past few months have been spotty, so I'd love to get into a better flow.

2024 GOALS:

FOCUS ON PERSONAL PROJECTS. I have a lot of them. Two (three?) book projects, two long OC-centered fanfictions.

WRITE FANDOM PROJECTS. I have a lot of ideas for fanfictions, and I want to make the time to write them. Some are long, some are short. Getting feedback on my stories has always been a great feeling, and fanfiction is the best way to get that serotonin.

CHANGE MY WRITING HABITS. My habits are bad. They lead to a ton of procrastination and wasted time. I want to be more structured when it comes to my writing time (and my time in general, but especially my writing time). I want to stick to schedules, word-count goals, page goals ect. Conquering procrastination is going to be key.

CONSISTENT RP POSTING. Even though I won't be focusing on roleplaying, I still intend to do it regularly and get replies and asks out in a more timely manner. I'll probably set off some time in the evening to get replies done, and have some fun on the dash when others are online. I'll try to be consistent across my blogs, not just on Nnoitra.

CREATE THINGS THAT ARE PHYSICAL. I've come to realize that I love things that translate to the real world. Not just words on a screen, or a digital artwork, but things that you can touch. It's why I've absolutely fallen in love with watercolor painting. I'm going to try to print some of my writing work so that I have physical copies. I'm also going to print my art so that I can hold it in real life.

FIND A SHIP FOR NNOITRA. It's been so long since I wrote a ship for him, and I need it back in my life. I've been looking for a ship for him the whole time, but I need to put more effort in, and let him interact with more characters, as well as continue to develop the relationships he does have ( in case one of them turns romantic? ). I'd love for 2024 to be the year Nnoitra falls in love again.

I am SUPER excited for 2024! I love new years and fresh starts, and I feel so incredibly inspired by the changes in my mindset. I feel like I've been stuck for a good while with rping. Don't get me wrong, I've loved every second of it, and I've learnt so much about writing - and met the most amazing people. It's just that it's time for a change. Time for me to create other kinds of stories. I thought that things were aligned for me to write books last year, but I really didn't have the right mindset - but now I do! I'm hyped!! Hope you're ALL going to have the most amazing 2024 guys!! ]

He's very calm (well like not super loud and rambunctious), and I think that fits really well with any possible sensory issues. He's a good listener, (he's like complete 180 ever since the incident) and is willing to do most things with you. If anyone specifically is causing you discomfort, he immediately gets protective. Maybe even getting a bit violent if they're crossing a line.

He doesn't mind trying to help you understand things if you ever get confused. Whether it's sarcasm or other things. In fact, in a way he likes helping you. It takes his mind off of his crime.

He won't ever judge you, because he himself knows what it's like to be judged. He doesn't like it if you ever fear such a thing (with him at least).

He's not one to be affectionate explicitly himself, but if you want hugs he doesn't mind giving you some. I think he generally likes sitting beside you. Not necessarily leaning against each other, but just simply in each other's company. (He's like clingy, but in a subtle way).

He likes it if it's calm. So being in your hidey-hole with you is no problem to him. He would rather spend time with you in less vigorous ways. Plus, the less attention you spend on the world, the more attention for him, right?

Howdy and Hello! You can call me Slime!

New to this whole submission thing but not new to writing and roleplaying! I’m a literate Roleplayer with 10+ years of roleplay/writing experience in mostly action, fantasy, and some fandom works as well! I am still a bit new to other styles like smut, romance, and angst but always willing to give that a shot if that’s what you’re looking for too!

As I’ve been at this for a while now my responses can range between anywhere from 3-5 paragraphs to even more than that if needed/depending on how many characters I’m playing!

My current muse right now is an OC I’ve had (you’ll see that mentioned a lot in this submission), and I’d prefer to always be able to play him! He has his own homebrew setting, too, but he’s usually always thrown and changed around to fit any AU/Fandom I want to put him in.

I write fast and am available a lot of the time! When work calls, I will have to step away for that but it’s rare for me not to find time to write. Expect response times less than 24 hours from me unless something comes up!

In terms of roleplay partner aspects, I’m mainly looking at this:

ALL writers & characters aged 18+. No-go if you’re under that! Preferably the 21-24 range!

Canon characters or OCs. I primarily play my own original characters!

Literate (3-5+ paragraph) posts. I write a lot though so be warned hah!

This is an RP blog for my DoL PC, Clara (the phantom) Loveday! Run by @degrees-of-fuck the thing the myth the absentee.

Major canon character relationship under cut for useful info just in case, but any and all interactions are welcome! (cw for sibling pseudocest. Also in general on the blog, cw for the usual assault related in-game horrors and possibly occasional references to suicide.)

Not necessary reading, but it's here and might inspire some interactions idk.

ROBIN: Robin and Clara have a sibling-like relationship, with an unacknowledged undercurrent of something Else that Clara finds too alarming to actually think about. Robin is the subject of most of Clara's paranoia and OCD obsessions. Clara would kill and die for Robin (but she isn't very good at verbalizing this.)

SYDNEY: Clara's presence is kind of automatically somewhat corrupting, even if not specifically in a sexual way. Goth Effect. So I currently tend to imagine Clara's Sydney as being fairly neutral on the purity front. Clara and Syd are academic rivals -> lovers, with Clara helping Sydney in the library on certain days. They share their writing with each other and are both so so mentally ill.

EDEN: Clara feels genuine guilt for not loving Eden the way Eden loves her and it fucking Sucks. girl you were abducted. Still, she does... Care for them. Even if she is also absolutely terrified. She tries to make the best of the situation, visiting once weekly, trying to make the place comfortable and learning skills while she's out there. It's mostly a source of turmoil for her though lol.

BAILEY: Clara's family has been stuck at this orphanage for GENERATIONS and Bailey knows this. Maybe knew her mother? I imagine Bailey trusts Clara possibly Less far than they could throw her, but generally, Clara is quiet, courteous and consistent enough with the money to stay out of the line of fire for the most part. On account of her family being so tied to the place via Debt Cycles, I like to imagine her having lowkey Potential Future Caretaker disease. She hates this.

AVERY: Clara is knowledgeable, well-spoken, polite, has a funny way of picking up nice things to accentuate her fancy outfits and is the sort of person to read about how to use different kinds of silverware - even if more for writing reasons than for Avery. So I think Avery liked her. HOWEVER, she's also so so so autistic and being around Avery is a TRULY DRAINING AND MISERABLE experience. So as soon as she could afford to she started turning them down every week. This uhhh didn't go well and now she's back to going out with them feeling like she has a gun to her head every single time. One of the people she's lied about Clarabelle being her real name to out of spite.

REMY: OUGHH the rat... Remy dreams are one of many reasons Clara refuses to sleep. She still calls them Master in her head sometimes and despises it. Every time she is taken to the farm, she gets a little closer to starting a cow uprising, yet closer to losing her goddamn mind. While with Remy, she's obedient, quiet and affectionate - but only when prompted. (I think of her Remy Trauma as a microcosm for the whole thing tbh <3 Tfw you are acutely aware you are meat on a hook and exist for others' consumption)

ALEX: Clara sometimes works at the farm - mostly during school holidays. She knows her botany and she likes being away from the town lol. She's very knowledgeable, prefers to be very independent when she can and she's at least a little stronger than she looks, but lacks stamina. Also she keeps getting horrendously sunburnt while she's there because she keeps forgetting to protect her skin lmao. I think Alex's dominance stat would be on the high side, but not full. I tend to imagine Alex having a one-sided Thing at her, but that's not necessary to play out. I can easily picture Clara sometimes having Remy Flashbacks while at Alex's and trying to hide that.On that note, she is 100% on board with helping Alex with the Remy thing. And also just with any opportunity to fuck with Remy.

Hi, I've come across your blog recently and I must tell you that I love it since you're one of the few sane people in this fandom who appreciates the bond between the boys without overanalyzing often baseless and delusional theories.

Although I love their bond and think there is dating potential there, I'm also leaning towards the opinion that Jikook may be single nowadays. However, I'm also leaning towards the opinion that they MAY have had something in the past, possibly something casual like occasional hookups since I believe (sexual) attraction between the two does exist (emphasis on may since this is an assumption like everything else as we have a glimpse into the 1/1000 of their private lives), and this is based solely on two incidents - the hickey and the Rose Bowl one. The Rose Bowl one I can overlook, but the hickey one is difficult for me to put within the scope of pure friendship (especially when it comes to their/other memebers' reactions in the clip to the entire thing).

So my question is - how do you perceive these two events (and I'm sure you've already got this question, but as I'd already said, I've only come across your blog recently). :)

I don’t agree with you on whether they were once dating or fooling around, but it’s well-known here that I’ve never thought that at all. You do you; many others would agree with you, too.

My opinion on Rose Bowl and the “hickey” is that they could be looked at in two different ways. I really don’t care for what most Jkkrs think about them, but really the bottom line is that even if those two events were taken at face value and nothing deeper, it’s unique behavior either way.

Outliers exist in every aspect of life. There are generalizations that apply to a population, culture, generation, gender, sexuality, personality types, etc., but those generalizations will never apply to every single person. And it’s especially so in human behavior and social interaction.

Just because you or “most people” wouldn’t do [action] with a friend doesn’t mean that those people don’t exist. And sure, it would absolutely make sense that this generalization might apply to Jungkook and Jimin when they do something out of pocket, but they’re not only not the average Joes with a normal upbringing, the biggest factor is that RPS is inherently unusual, unsolicited, and toeing the line of disrespect. It’s why RPS is widely frowned upon. It comes with the territory of being in the public eye, but that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable or encouraged by those being shipped.

It’s the fact that they are real people, who never asked to be shipped in that way, that explains why I will never assume that anything they do or say means anything deeper than how it looks on the surface—or if, in the case of the “hickey,” Jimin says he was getting dizzy and bit Jungkook as retribution, then that’s really all it was (also, I can believe that, but I have an anecdotal experience that allows me to accept it as is).

The only time I’ll ever entertain narratives is if there’s legitimately no context for it or there’s a dissonance between the context and what’s actually happening; for example, the Feb 2021 live where Jungkook continues staring at Jimin long after he’s done talking or doing anything interesting. Yes, I’ll say that it’s a little suspect and explain why, but that’s generally as far as I’ll take it (and I think I’ve even tried to play devil’s advocate with it too, but it’s a little weak). But as I say all the time, these moments are incredibly few and far between.

In the case of Rose Bowl, Jimin was very obviously emotional and Jungkook was comforting him. I personally wouldn’t suck my friend’s ear, but as I had passively mentioned in a really old post, I watched this compilation of idols doing the same thing to one another, and I remember thinking at the time that the ear fixation among idols was baffling. I tried to find it again, but it doesn’t seem to exist anymore (it was a much older video that I found ~2 years ago). After seeing that, I was more convinced that Rose Bowl could’ve easily been a comfort thing—weird, but comforting.

I’ve had time to ruminate over it, and I can also see how that action might actually be grounding to someone.

Regarding these two events, I can understand why shippers would think they could indicate something deeper between Jikook. Where I start to have a problem is when shippers abuse their platform and start talking so assuredly for Jungkook and Jimin. Shippers are not omniscient, but they pretend to be and they talk like they are, and those are the ones I don’t respect at all.

Mind you, I’m not stopping anyone else from flouting those boundaries if that’s how you have your fun, but I won’t have anything nice to say about people who do this, and that’s just my opinion.

Anyway, thanks for the ask. This was longer than intended, but I am tagging this post for future reference so I never have to talk about it ever again. ✌🏻

Considering the fact that accents apparently are important in UK, and used to be a way of determination of one’s family standing, do you agree that Petunia would be that person who fakes sophisticated accent? Since in canon she moved out of her childhood industrial area of Britain to south of England?

soooo ok. I have many thoughts on this, but before I get into them I'd like to remind that I am none of the following: English, a sociologist, a linguist, an expert on English class politics, an expert on anything in particular

with that said, I'd like to address a few things about this ask. I take issue with the premise of the question a bit, and this absolutely might just be a phrasing issue so no shade or negativity to you, anon, for asking!! but the wording of 'that person who fakes sophisticated accent' rings a few alarm bells for me, because it touches on this idea that people who code-switch for purposes of existing in different spaces (especially spaces that are primarily occupied by white people and/or wealthy people) are doing so in a manipulative, duplicitous way, which is not an historically insignificant assertion to make, and not one that I agree with at all.

do I think that it's possible that Petunia code-switched as she got older? absolutely! it's also possible that Lily did, too—we don't really have any evidence to the contrary. I think especially in Petunia's case since she went to typing school and moved to a company closer to London (thank you to Suze for reminding me of this!), this could have been due to factors like the location of the school (since the Evans family was ostensibly no longer paying for one daughter's education, who's to say that they didn't pay for Petunia to go to a well-to-do school in the South, or even just one wherein the primary accent was an English RP?), the teachers and the education (it is a documented phenomenon that some teachers will train accents out of students if the accent is believed to be 'lesser' than the standard of the area, blech), or an ingrained idea that speaking in a more neutral RP or 'posh' accent would lead to more opportunities for employment/upward socioeconomic mobility.

I think it is necessary to pull back a bit when talking about Petunia and really examine the social politics of the world in which she lived: a girl from an industrial area, canonically in the midlands (though in my headcanons from the north of the country), who had a trade degree but few connections, living in a country where the dialectic identity of any given area indicates (more accurately, presumes) a certain level of schooling and a class status just based on accent alone.

we know as a character that she had very specific ideals about how she wanted her life to go, and where/in what setting she wanted to live it. I think this would absolutely give room for her to intentionally mould her accent or take care to train out of it, but I think the culprit here isn't really Petunia so much as the tangled and often oppressive web of English class politics which have enforced the 'North/South divide' and the socioeconomic identifiers that come from one regional accent to another.

even further, it quite literally could have just been that she was around people who spoke in a certain way, starting at a young age at which such accent/behavioral changes were completely developmentally normal. I mean, I lived in England at sixteen and I absolutely found myself changing the inflection of my questions and the pronunciations of some words to fit my peers, because I thought it meant they would more readily accept me into their social world. hell, even when I go back to England now as a 24-year-old, I adopt this weird pseudo-hybrid accent wherein I say things like "what are you on about?!" and "that is mad!!!" even though I am fully and completely American. lol.

tl;dr yes, I think Petunia could have absolutely changed her accent, but I think that's less about her and more about the conditions in which she lived which might very well have demanded such a thing from her.

18. Any OC crackships?

I mean, you know I love Ori and the Frost Prince AU just as much as you do. You could probably suggest half a dozen characters from that campaign and I'd be on board to consider the possibilities for giggles. The only other OC that I think has really had "crackships" is Indes, mostly because she was my most well-known ones from my TES RP days. I've definitely had a few suggested for giggles, and have plenty that I would have been interested in exploring in like an AU way, but the other characters in those ships are no longer active or I have no idea how to explain them if you don't know the characters.

There was a halfling paladin that our Waterdeep party was introduced to and ended up being familiar to Jayni as a way to introduce her to the party when I joined. I did like the idea of shipping them a tiny bit even though it was still very early in the campaign (which is why I consider it a bit of a crackship), but I cannot remember his name for the life of me and definitely seemed to be someone the DM came up with rather than him being a character from the module. He lent her his mastiff to ride for a while. It was sweet. And I'm a sap.

13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs?

Wisteria's entire backstory is literally summed up with "she got kicked out of the Feywild for causing trouble and doing something stupid" even if I don't know what that exact stupid thing is yet, she easily earns the "most likely to make trouble for trouble's sake" title.

Other troublemakers include my Skyrim RP character Vialgo, mentioned before, who was more sassy and sarcastic than anything else but I imagine tried to pull off as many pranks as he could while he was working with the Dawnguard. My archfey Quelyn is also a bit of one, but less in the "doing it for the lols" type and more of the "causing trouble because it helps my agenda" type.

14. Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory.

I'll be honest, I don't do a lot of particularly tragic backstories. Some troubled pasts? Sure. Complications that may come back to haunt them? Love 'em! Maybe one impactful death here or there, but the real tragic ones are few and far between. For example, I think the only characters I have that have lost both parents are Tala and Ledo, but for Tala they passed when she was a literal baby (due to a plague) so she was raised by her grandparents instead. Their deaths were not something she actually remembers and have little effect on her as a character. And for the few older characters I made back during my first few years writing/RPing, the ones who did have somewhat tragic backstories often ended up getting rewritten as I matured and decided they were more cringe than provoking.

Of my current, active characters, Ledo would probably have the most tragic one, even though she also has come to terms with about half of it at this point. However, to avoid possible spoilers for you and the rest of our little dnd gang snooping around here, I'm gonna actually briefly describe her old backstory, which got a complete rework in Sam's world so this won't really be spoiling anything major if stuff does come up.

This would have been the basic bullet points if something had happened to Ori in the last campaign since Ledo was the backup for it. Originally, Ledo was gonna be in a similar situation to Tala where she didn't really get to know her parents before they passed. Unlike Tala, she would not know who they were at all and would not be aware of any other immediate family. All she would know is that she was given to an orphanage at a young age. She would eventually run away for reasons, and find herself taking shelter in the workshop of a dwarf tinker. The tinker and his wife would take pity on her and give her a place to stay for a while as they tried to decide what to do, but since they had never been able to have children of their own, they take her in and eventually adopt her. She would grow up and eventually take up an apprenticeship with her adoptive father and found that she had a bit of a natural talent with working in the forge and with tinkering. But the real tragedy would strike when a large explosion goes off in the workshop, killing the tinker and seriously injuring Ledo. In the aftermath, she would have found hints that the explosion was not an accident, but a planned sabotage. She would not know who the culprit was, though she may have had suspicions (in the case of the last campaign, I probably would have used her suspecting Cobalt or someone he worked with as a catalyst to get her to join up with the party). Obviously the current backstory is a lot different considering she comes from a Tiefling culture instead, but there's still a couple of nods to the original version.

The problem with this question is that I simultaneously want to talk about all the things but I'm also really bad when I'm put on the spot and asked to just talk about something. SO... I'm gonna talk about Aubrey so I'm not just talking about more dnd stuff.

Aubrey is an innkeeper, a witch, and an informant. She's currently set in a low-fantasy world that is heavily based on the 1300s medieval period so it's been a fun exercise in making more subtle fantasy looks and finding appropriate design and referenced art-wise. But she's such a fun character to play and think about, even if I have not gotten to do too many exciting things with her just yet (unfortunately the arpg she was made for has been pretty low with activity the last couple of years). Her magic is limited in the current setting because it's low fantasy, but her main thing is divination and getting visions from spirits. I also want her to have a magpie familiar eventually that she can use as her little scout but that may or may not happen depending on what eventually happens with the setting. One of the things I would love, love, love to do with her eventually is come up with some sort of plot that would take her away from the inn because of either some information she has found through her usual channels, or from a vision that is more intense than usual, and get her tangled up with more secretive organizations outside of the city she lives in.

And for a fun note, if I ever brought her to dnd (because that would probably be the first system I would try to adapt her for) I would absolutely make her a raven queen warlock because the idea of getting not only a raven familiar (likely adjusted to be a magpie for Aubrey's theming), but also getting to merge with that familiar as a utility thing would be so, so much fun.

Time to talk about one of my BABIES. I've long since taken down any of my fic that had her in it because it was Bad (and also she was just a supporting character lol), but my VERY FIRST Dragon Age OC is Siobhan Cousland. I made her a little profile for the first time this year and sometimes I just stare at it. (Link to the profile is here!)

Siobhan is a Mean Bisexual. Like, mean as in mean girl, not in the complimentary sense. As she's gotten fleshed out (in PSLs or just in writing out histories and stuff for her - nearly all of my character development before this year was in PSLs or defunct RP games), I've angled her toward the idea that she's a Cousland who actively wanted the throne before the story even started.

I think of her as, like, if Tywin Lannister was secondborn and a woman. Or kind of a noble demon/lawful evil sort, the kind of person who looks at the world, wants power, even feels entitled to it, and figured out that the most reliable source of it is to foster genuine admiration or loyalty while one is wheeling and dealing. Barring that, she knows enough to keep her dirty deeds on the down low and restrain herself if she's bereft of an alibi.

A "read more" to keep from spamming y'all, but I tried to get in all the canon divergences or interesting bits.

Siobhan's biggest obstacle to that is that she has some type of antisocial personality disorder. She's naturally pretty cold and has a limited capacity for empathy or guilt, especially toward people outside of her immediate inner circle of personal relationships. She has genuine care for her immediate family and develops varying levels of it for the people she stopped the Blight with. I like to say that Siobhan is a good person for bad reasons - or just kind of a bad person but a good friend. She's a cold, pragmatic, nationalistic bitch, but she also doesn't need to empathize with people to be invested in them. She may think the thing they want is silly or nonsensical, but if it's what they want and it doesn't interfere with what she wants, she'll go out of her way for it, absolutely. And for people outside of her in-group, it's all about the reward. When the rewards are greater for being "good", then she'll do good.

I always love me some contrast and good dichotomies, so the idea of Siobhan being like that and still maintaining successful friendships and alliances is really interesting to me. After traveling with her for years (or in Fergus's case, just growing up with her), she has these incredibly close attachments. She's ride or die for them and it's mutual; they all know exactly who and what Siobhan is, they meet her halfway, and they don't ask for more than she can give. She has a lot of things other than empathy that matter to her: her family's legacy, her personal sense of pride, her Fereldan loyalism and code of ethics.

And the thing with her is that pragmatic, cold, and harsh doesn't necessarily mean actively cruel. She's pretty apathetic toward most slights or inconveniences and is rarely spiteful. The only people she actively wants to "punish" are the Mac Tirs and Rendon Howe, and even then, the extent of that is "say mean things to their face and then kill them".

I think you could even mistake Siobhan for being whole-heartedly heroic or ethical looking at most of her decisions during the Blight: brokering peace between Zathrien and the werewolves, siding with the mages, that sort of thing.

Her companions probably got the first taste of her actual motivations when she dealt with Redcliffe. She saved the villagers, sure, but once inside the castle, she killed Connor without considering other options, and then put off curing Arl Eamon as long as humanly possible, until not doing so was just too suspicious. Why? Well, for two reasons: first, Alistair admitted on the road up to Redcliffe that he was Maric's bastard and that Eamon knew it, and second, with Connor dead, Bann Teagan became Eamon's heir instead. And Teagan was younger, less ambitious, easier to work with, and most crucially, Siobhan didn't suspect that Teagan wanted to install Alistair as king so he could rule Ferelden from the shadows, as she came to infer (correctly) about Eamon.

Siobhan still kicks herself for letting Eamon live, but it was that or do something questionable with Andraste's ashes. She's just Andrastian enough not to do that, so, old man lives it is. Though she and Eamon did spend the rest of his life butting heads in Denerim while they fought over who got to influence Alistair the most.

Oh, and speaking of Alistair: Alistair, truly, was the last person to figure out Siobhan's deal. He starts out a little gullible, overly willing to follow and believe the best in people, especially Siobhan. He fell in love with her (or who he thought she was), even while missing hints that there was something not quite there about her. (And, honestly, while she and Morrigan were becoming more romantically entrenched with each other and less willing or able to admit it, like a couple of dipshits.) He really started getting the hint around the time he met Goldanna and Siobhan's advice to him was... not wrong, but definitely harsher than he needed at the time, more cynical than he was comfortable with.

But he was blindsided when he realized that she'd seen him as a stepping stone to the crown ever since Redcliffe. See, unlike me, Siobhan is really good at math. Ideally, Siobhan would have presented herself as an option for queen in the Landsmeet vote, but with Eamon alive and pushing Alistair\, competing with Alistair was only ever going to split votes and land Anora back on top. Alistair truly did not see it coming when she announced her intentions to marry him, and was pretty disheartened by their private conversation afterwards, where she admitted that doing so had been her Plan B, if she couldn't find a viable way to rule alone.

He forgave her, eventually. And it was after a few years of marriage and breaking down his illusions and projections of what he wanted Siobhan to be that he came to appreciate what she is. 10-ish years later, they're actually in a very stable marriage. Maybe their feelings for each other aren't mutual or equal the way you might think of it, but they care for and even love each other in ways that the other one appreciates. She does care for him immensely, and I think you'd be selling her short if you assumed Siobhan didn't love him back. Really, what's more valuable coming from her is that she respects him enough to be completely honest - and has enough genuine affection that she tolerates (and even sometimes enjoys) when he gets sappy and romantic at her.

Her and Morrigan, though? That's overwhelmingly, stupidly romantic. Except they're both antisocial little jerks, especially when they were in their early 20s and fighting the Blight, so it was less a true romance at the time and more, like, one of those really romantically co-dependent "girl friendships" that every queer woman or femme person has undoubtedly had in their life. She was devastated when Morrigan did the Dark Ritual and then just disappeared.

Post-Inquisition, in my canon, Siobhan tracked Morrigan's ass down and badgered her until she came back to Denerim, at least for a while. Alistair/Morrigan is one of my little pet rarepairs, I love the three of them together, and I like to think that, just for a little while, they lived together rather happily in the palace with their son. (You're welcome to explain to Siobhan about how Kieran isn't kind of "hers", and you can be wrong.)

As far as issues of succession go, Siobhan arranged a new marriage for Fergus ASAP despite Fergus's protests. It caused some understandable conflict between them. Despite the years between his wife and son's deaths and the end of the Blight, Fergus had spent all of it actively at war and hadn't really dealt with his grief. (Fun fact! In one of my Inquisitor Trevelyan continuities, that arranged marriage is with my main OC, Thayet. Just the one, though.) Once he settled into his new marriage, Fergus had two children.

The older one, Bryce, was fostered at the palace as young as was appropriate. Now, it's an open secret that Bryce is the presumed heir to the throne, giving Siobhan exactly what she wanted: her legacy secured, and the start of a Cousland royal line. Should she and Alistair both fall before Bryce is of age, Fergus expects to step in as regent and leave his wife to rule Highever in the meantime.

Also, as an extra little DA2-related tidbit: Siobhan doesn't get hurt often, but oh boy was she pissy about Anders going on the run after the explosion in Kirkwall and not coming to her for help. Hell, she's crabby that he wanted out of the Wardens and didn't tell her. She found out that he'd booked it during a visit to Amaranthine, where she noticed that Ser Pounce-a-Lot was running around and Anders himself was nowhere to be seen. Nowadays, Ser Pounce-a-Lot is a champion mouser in the Denerim palace. Siobhan, being a true Fereldan, has a handful of exceptional war hounds and breeds them in the palace... under Ser Pounce-a-Lot's watchful eye. His official title in the palace is Ser Pounce-a-Lot of Vigil's Keep, Royal Mabari Watcher and Lord Mouser of Denerim. He has an official little sash and everything.

Hi! About writing for RPF/RPS is there still a possibility to place 'canon personality' here or this is when they become OCs that have the name and face?

It's an interesting question.

First of all what can be defined as canon personality in such case? What we (=the public) can see of them. What we are shown, during shows, events, interviews.

Which can be the 'character' they interpret, like, some popstars, idols, kpop and boy/girlbands are totally interpreting roles for fanservice, especially asian ones: the cute guy/girl, the mysterious one, the childish one, and so on, and they do so on every public moment so we think it's their 'canon' personality, and when we write about them we portray them and their dynamics accordingly, and if we don't it's perceived as OOC, because it basically is.

In other cases, like actors, other kinds of musicians, other kinds of celebrities, they still choose to show certain aspects of their personality and not others, so what is consider canon is all that they show us, plus something more, cause since they don't 'interpret a character' like those aforementioned stars, something more might appear if they're taken by surprise, they might act in an unexpected way if they are under stress or if they start a relationship, they might 'reveal' something new and different in an interview (although personally I don't believe when they drop some big sad reveal but ok) or they might get in trouble. Sometimes these ppl appear more 'sincere' than they really are and that 'person next door' vibe is just a façade they're giving to the public, or they're way less mysterious/cool/clever or whatever than we think and we discover it by accident, 'character' is destroyed, but also the idealized image we had of them. Also, in case of musicians/bands who write their own songs, we might read their lyrics and understand something more of their personalities, and ofc there are onstage interaction between band members which are interesting to observe. So we consider 'canon' the mix of all these aspects and we write them accordingly.and ofc these things.

I think that writing rpf/rps is technically both writing OCs who wear real people's names and faces, and writing fiction based on the aforementioned 'canon' we see, and, at the same time, it can be a 'character study', an interpretation of what we see of them. After all (good) authors put a lot of attention in portraying them in a way that keeps into consideration everything seen, read or heard in interviews, events, lyrics, anything. And all authors put disclaimers to avoid eventual legal problems in certain countries, specifying that it's just fiction and the author doesn't know anything about the person/pairing, because it's fictional but it also uses real people's public identities, not just their names.

I'm rambling now, but I'll give you examples from my experience. First of all I used to hate rpf, until I started shipping 2 italian musicians like I said before, and I did because I saw a special chemistry in them. I read and wrote fanfiction as well, trying to be accurate with the personalities they show through interviews, videos, interactions. I also got very pissed off because most of the fandom saw one of them as 'vulnerable' while it was clear that this guy was very dominant and acting fake vulnerable to appear cuter, while the other was a kind of submissive and insecure personality even though he had tattoos and badass outfits. Since the fandom was small and homophobic (despite being the fandom for shipping 2 guys lol) at some moment it became a trend to say that no one shipped them for real, that it was just fanon, so ppl started paying less and less attention to writing them IC so now in that ship tag it's 99% basically OCs with those names, not recognizable at all. I instead still like to look at cues, at details, to confirm (or change) my interpretation of them, what I see in what they showed until now, and I still like to write them 'IC' in this sense.

Another rpf I just discovered is Placebo related. I was always a fan but only recently I saw some old gifs of the singer and the guitarist and wow, I also remembered some interviews I read of them and I started looking for fics and I saw many, some about their first years, some about later, as they have a long career. Everyone agrees with the singer's personality as kind of bitchy and selfish, rebellious, flirty and obscene but also insecure, and it makes sense since he's openly bisexual since forever, he wore feminine clothes and makeup in the 90s macho britpop environment, and he said he saw himself as an object when he was young, and while his relationships with women are known, those with guys are not and he admitted that he more times had one sided love for guys (I initially read about him to learn more about bisexual men since I think one of the guys in my italian ship lol is bisexual as well), while the guitarist is portrayed as calmer but naughty as well. Both did a lot of drugs in the past so a lot of fics are angsty, about drug abuse and messed up stuff, and in most they are friends with benefits but have other, more messed up and darker relationships and they come to each other for comfort...I kinda like this portrayal because it takes into consideration all those videos, interviews, moments about them individually and together, so I'd say that it's close to 'canon', but ofc it's what we are shown.

I hope it makes sense. Recently I can't bring myself to write fanfiction but I think about them a lot.

* she cannot stand still sometimes. she always has to be doing something extra, walking when the prime path is right there? shed rather go through tedious little holes or hop and balance onto fences to get where shes going. she’ll mindlessly fix up the path when there are holes or mismatched wood, and one time went on a long, long LONG journey cleaning up the paths tommy purposely DESTROYED near lmanburg and even added cobblestone sidings which werent there before

* puffys a bit of a sentimental person. writing in her log to clear her thoughts sometimes and cared enough to try and preserve lmanburg with the glass sheet and trying to find possible surviving artifacts of history to respect it, even though she’s never been a part of it. its also why, when doomsday happened and lmanburg got permanently poofed, she began to appreciate the buildings that are still standing and began taking more pics 

* she’s not used to being... what do you call it, um, cared for? she’d deflect compliments sometimes, when shes having a particular bad day, like, she’d laugh nervously and change the subject, sometimes she’d outright deny it, most days she’d jokingly say ‘staphhh it’ and add a very genuine thanks. my point being is, do something for puffy that is mildly nice and she’d keep that moment in her heart forever. 

* also funny story regarding the above. u know how karl is notorious for stealing her materials? and how puffy was contemplating doing something in retaliation for them? karl says hi for once when she joins the server and she goes ‘alright fine youre safe for saying hi’ LOL THIS WAS PROBABLY A BIT META WISE but something about this implying that the bare minimum or LESS is enough to make puffy forgive someone is very sad and funny at the same time for me. girl really said ‘oh you said hi to me? thats nice all the crimes youve ever done towards me is now forgiven. <3’ (this is a bit of an exaggeration on my part, ofc, i just think its funny LMAO) 

* ironically, despite being the ‘captain’, whenever riding a boat with someone, she prefers being on the backseat and letting them drive. ig shes just there for the ride i suppose, her and her uber drivers :3

 * she either has a rather unhealthy obsession with baked potatoes or she just doesnt wanna waste eret’s massive potato farm

Hi! How do you distinguish between a mun who has favorites but still treats their non favorites with respect, and a mun who has favorites but uses this as an excuse to disrespect everyone else? Sometimes it's hard for me to tell, and I'd love to hear what you think.

Hey, Anon! That's actually a great question.

It's also totally reasonable to have a hard time telling. When you feel like you might be a little more into the threads than the other mun is, no matter how much they're being respectful and caring, it can still feel a bit...lame. We all want to be a favorite writing partner, even as we know that's impossible, that we can't manage that ourselves. It's not a thing of logic!

I feel like I should probably preface the detailing I'm about to do - this is only my experience. There are always variables in anything dealing with other people, and any time we're already feeling down, it's really easy to see things in a way that might not be the reality.

Alright, then.

Muns who use this as an excuse or justification for what they're doing tend to be the ones that:

are likely to pair the excuse/justification with aggressively vilifying anyone who takes issue with their treatment of them for being too serious about RP/too emotionally invested in anything from friendships to ships/otherwise "not realizing it's just a hobby" - apparently, "hobby" actually means "you're not making a dollar, so, do whatever you want in whatever way you want, so long as it's making you and only you happy and comfortable," who knew?

will lead muns on, either because they're uncomfortable with telling those who are not the favorites that...well, they're not the favorites and they might wish to just drop the threads or because...

they have a bit of a habit of going through favorites/their favorites take frequent breaks or are slower to reply, and it's good to have other muns around for when either situation happens - it's okay if everyone else is bored and/or left out, but not them

become angry and defensive if you ask them about your thread(s) and/or if everything is alright after a reasonable period of inactivity only on your threads*

if they previously had OOC contact and/or a friendship with you, it's one pole or another of OOC behavior with you now - no contact/as little as they can possibly manage or they'll proceed like you also only want to have conversations about what is going on with the favorite(s), the ships, the threads, the fandom, the mun. Before anyone misconstrues this to mean that "so, no matter what they do it's sus lol," no. There is such a thing as neither insulting someone by having nothing else to talk about except the mun/muse/ship you're ignoring them for nor just stopping/avoiding conversation altogether. It's actually not normal or acceptable to treat people like disposable fixations or expect them to be thrilled or lie about it when you can't shut up about their replacement(s)

in general, if this mun just keeps making it apparent that neither you nor anyone else exists unless they're the favored mun? That's really it. That's the difference between having favorites and still treating other muns with respect - there isn't any respect, none of you exist to respect

*I'm not going to speak to what is reasonable to everyone, it's one of those things I think muns should mention to some degree in their rules, but with people taking it to mean things it doesn't, it's doubtful that's going to happen. (I encourage it, though, please, put in your rules when you'll ask about threads or if you'll assume there is no more interest and they've been dropped. "After one month of no reply and no OOC contact, I will either contact you to ask if you're still interested." No big deal!) For me, it would depend on the mun themselves, even if I've got in my rules that after x time, I will assume y. If this is a mun that has updated OOC that they're extra slow right now, and they're usually pretty slow, I'm going to just see that as them prioritizing preferred partners with what little time they have, that's not coming across as rude favoritism to me at that point. If it's a mun that has continued to reply as normal, posted no updates OOC, and they're specifically just replying to one or two favorites with that regular timing, I'm going to ask if they're still interested after a month or so.

The problem always is that, despite what the RPC likes to say for the same damn reason, we're all afraid to be acting on ridiculous suspicion and paranoia. We get treated a certain way, maybe it is once and it was just extremely bad, maybe it has happened over and over again, and we really do start seeing phantoms of ill-treatment. It becomes difficult to trust your own judgment and listen to your inner voice (one that, furthermore, is already at least a bit embattled by life on and offline).

These are only some points to help you trust yourself or disprove yourself if you already feel like there might be this problem going on.

If you have someone who could be impartial when given evidence, you might want to consider asking if they'd mind helping you identify if this is a problem or not. Don't mention mun names or even muses if you're in the same intersections of the RPC, you're not trying to smear anyone here, just get a different viewpoint that isn't touched by any negative or positive feelings about that mun!

I said "evidence," so, I want to be clear that I did not mean screenshots or direct quotes. Give situations, what the mun is and is not doing, as both are important.

Some questions that might help you identify things to present to a third party for help:

Are they replying to any of your threads, how about asks?

If/when they reply to you IC, how do they reply? Is it shorter than it used to be, unenthusiastic? Or is it the same, just fewer and farther between, or less interesting to you than what they're doing with preferred partners?

Are the plots they're doing with the favorite(s) ones that you previously had with them or that you had plotted out and were working toward? And if that answer is yes, are these common plots that can be applied anywhere or specific ones?

Is this all something that is perhaps temporary overexcitement, or has this just kept going on for months, shows no sign of stopping?

Did you speak/were friends OOC? If so, how has this changed? Frequency of messaging, topics of conversation, enthusiasm, interest in you or your muse?

Are you now left out of games on the dash in which you used to be tagged, or unwelcome in things like "dash crack?" Is it, by contrast, that you might be welcome in the latter, but either it doesn't interest you by inclusion/focus of the favorite or because you lack a base of engagement with what's going on?

Do they send you memes, has that changed at all?

The way you feel is valid, but it might also be influencing the way you're viewing a situation, including in how you relate it to someone else for help. So, try to stick to actions when doing so.

By contrast, muns who have favorites but are not using this to justify being disrespectful to others tend to:

be open and upfront about having favorites and why - they're not trying to hide anything, including what makes their favorite writing partners, threads, and ships favorites to begin with

^they are not "open and upfront" by obnoxiously reminding everyone constantly who those favorites are, they're not shit posting how @munthatisntyou is their bestie/their muse is lusting after their muse/actually my wife. They are upfront about it by stating in their rules they can, will, and do have favorites. They're open about it by not lying or acting like it's the worst accusation ever when someone asks them about it

definitely have priority threads, might have an easier, thus faster, time responding to questions/prompts regarding those threads/ships, but still respond with equal interest to memes from others*

the same is true of interest and turnaround time with thread replies, they might get the preferred ones out faster, but they're still replying to everyone and still keeping other muns updated on what's going on*

will not be hostile when approached by fair, politely put concerns about threads, but rather, will respond with honesty as to their interests - whether they have, indeed, changed or haven't alike

they still express the same interest OOC outside of messages, liking and commenting on posts, sending memes, and being concerned or congratulatory when they see OOC posts dealing with life events

in general, muns who just have favorites like everyone does remain aware of others in the same way they always have, still make efforts to respond to threads, memes, messages, etc. with the same interest they always have - they appreciate everyone they interact with, not only their favorite(s)

*Everyone has a different way that works for them, and that influences their meme answering, thread replying, and OOC response turnaround time. A very social mun might respond to OOC messages more frequently, reliably, and with more zeal than a mun who is less socially active, forgetful, or dealing with different difficulties that might prevent doing so, for example. As another example, a mun who writes lengthy, detailed novella that takes a while to finish is going to take longer with everyone than a mun who writes in a way, or just has more time to write, that allows for replies to get out faster. Please, keep expectations and observances mindful of these factors and differences! What is typical of one mun might be perceived as legitimate favoritism when contrasted with a mun who operates differently than them.

That's really the difference, there is recognition and appreciation of everyone. They might have a visibly different friendship with their favorite(s), but it doesn't come with the cost of treating everyone else either like they don't exist or like total shit. And that comes in many ways, as many ways as there are possible interactions in the RPC. From being casual mutuals who do not write together (still acknowledging posts etc.) to outright writing partners (still giving replies with as much effort and quality).

You can think of muns like this as you would people who have different sorts of friendships as opposed to people who have rather cliquey friendships in which it's often enough a clique of two in which everyone else, even if included or otherwise used by those two, only exists out of necessity. The former is a normal social situation, we get on well with the people we do for a reason, and that's perfectly alright. The latter is some immature and self-interested behavior one should have grown out of in junior high.

As you didn't ask for this, I'm putting it under the cut as additional advice for others!

If you feel like someone is being disrespectful, or worse, and is glossing it over with "it's okay for people to have favorites, calm down" (a thing that's totally true but not meant to be used to excuse shitty behavior), you really do want to just remove yourself from the situation. In a situation like that, you're not going to change their behavior, and even if you did, are you ever going to be able unsee it?

What is more likely to happen is you'll be growing the seed of upset they planted into a big tree of animosity. Every time you are on your dash and see them replying or tagging their favorite(s), you're going to be either hurt or angry. Eventually, it's impossible to separate which of those things you are, and it's increasingly likely you're going to say or do something regrettable. And I mean regrettable in how it is likely to negatively affect you. You don't deserve to be branded a terrible person for an outburst. The situation has been bad enough.

Whether you should soft block to unfollow and force an unfollow, hard block, unfollow with or without communication is all subject to too many variables for me to advise any single course of action.

If it's possible to communicate politely that you're officially dropping threads or unfollowing, I will always advise doing so. If that isn't possible because this mun has been that terrible, or has proven in the past that they will react badly to such communications, then so be it, just quietly remove yourself from their presence.

You owe friends, even former ones if they've not done you awfully, the decency of communicating that you're ending things. You owe mutuals who haven't done anything more than ignoring you (as awful as that is, it's not as bad as being aggressively disrespectful, lying to you, leading you on, etc.) that decency and maturity as well. You do not owe anyone who has behaved like an immature ass that decency, it's okay to just leave in those cases. As it is in situations when you feel confident that speaking to them is going to cause drama for you.

When a mun hasn't ever really interacted with you, you've become mutuals, but it never went anywhere because they were already engaged in ignoring everyone except the favorite(s), it's alright to just leave quietly, too. They clearly don't register that you exist, so...don't exist. Go exist around muns who know you're there. But the caveat to that should be that if they decide to notice your vacant spot on the dash and come to you to ask about this, you should answer them. Be honest, but polite. Tell them that you just didn't see working out with them after all, and since you hadn't interacted, you unfollowed.

You never know (you just shouldn't count on it), in that latter case especially, that mun might honestly not be aware of the effect of their actions. Like everyone else, they're just doing what they enjoy, what makes them happy is what they're concentrated on, and might genuinely just have a narrow field of vision on it until spoken to.

Whatever is right for the unique situation at hand, don't lie to someone if they message you about it. Don't just act like it was an accidental unfollow or a tumblr glitch, grit your teeth, and add them back so that there is no unpleasantness. There is already unpleasantness if you felt the need to distance yourself from them, remember that!

A little belated because I work and go to school Wednesdays, but! This is super cool. Please check out the original post from @mythopoet-of-amaurot​ here!

Tell me about what inspirations and influences went into the creation and development of your WoL/OC. Did you have a vision for them in mind when you created them? Or did it take time and experience to figure out who they were? Feel free to go into detail!

Astor is actually based on a mage OC I’ve had for several years now - starting as just a sort of generalized fantasy mage oc I used to RP with and then traveling with me to be adapted into the various fandoms I’ve been with over time. FFXIV being a fantasy setting, it was really only a matter of time before I brought him over. I had, actually, started my free trial with a Roe female character because I like to at least try out game-specific races when I have the opportunity to do so, but I made Astor shortly after, I think once I’d bought the full game before my Roe had even experienced Sastasha because I was already entranced, lol.

Anyway, his appearance has changed slightly, and XIV Astor is on the younger end of his 30s opposed to to the older end or even in his 40s because the timeline of things worked a little bit better for me that way for this XIV iteration, but he is, at his core, more or less the same. IIRC, “Astor” as a name has some sort of relation or meaning to hawk, and I had just been getting into the Avengers around when I made him, and Hawkeye was my favorite Avenger. So, Astor sort of started there, appearance and name wise. And then in XIV he ended up with blue eyes instead of gray like originally because I was just... I thought he was pretty, okay? And at the end of the day, what is the point if you’re not at least a little in love with your main?

I’m not sure if there was anything I specifically pulled from when I did his personality, but his core traits to me have always been empathy, compassion, and... a little too self-sacrificing for both, lol. He’s always been a bleeding heart, and he was actually always meant to have an affinity for healing magic because of it. But he very nearly started as an archer in XIV because it was my first MMO of this type, and the idea of healing terrified me. Ultimately, I caved in like less than a day, I think??? And I restarted him as a WHM because it felt wrong to his character to not go with the job that literally screamed his vibes.

And I always have to say, to an extent, of course there’s a bit of me or my wants in him, too. I think you always put a bit of yourself into characters you love, but Astor’s close relationship with his mother is probably because that’s my closest familiar relationship. I don’t really have one with my dad, but I didn’t want to entirely replicate, y’know... that part of the experience, so that’s how Astor ended up not really knowing him too well, without it being a major family dysfunction point.

And I have to crack the joke I always do before this gets too heavy for anyone, but I also like to say like... Astor is the kind of man I’d like to know and I haven’t always had a lot of male figures in my life that I felt comfortable looking up to, so... I made my own! He’s my comfort oc, for sure.

And then Shay is like my loving callout post to my friend. Because we made Shay and Airi together to replay the story, and they originally weren’t supposed to end up together, I don’t think, and I think I just kinda... subconsciously challenged myself to make it happen, lmao. Shay’s backstory is very loosely based off an rp character I had a long time ago that I never got to use much, but... admittedly, that character was not nearly as brooding about it as Shay, lmaooo. I kinda think I subconsciously tried to fit as many of my friend’s favorite character traits into him that I knew about as physically possible and it all just fell together so well... and that’s how we ended up with the emotionally damaged angry elf!

Okay, and I also wanted to make him slightly attractive to myself because you know, again, what is the point if you don’t like them at least a little? But he’s definitely just. A loving callout post made flesh. And we love him for it.

Alternatively, his biggest character inspiration that I worked a lot from is Toothless from the How to Train Your Dragon movies. From sort of the color scheme to the whole sort of monster impression, but actually just misunderstood starting points, a lot of it kind of started with Toothless, my beloved. He’s one of my favorite characters ever, so like unrelated fun fact, child me was really distraught and basically mad at Dreamworks for a while after the first movie because Toothless wasn’t actually real and they’d made him so lovable and I was just. So upset I couldn’t actually love on a Toothless. I still low-key like... kinda want like a cuddle sized Toothless, but I... haven’t been able to justify spending a couple hundred dollars on one off of Etsy and the retail ones just. aren’t big enough or made from like. Not cuddly materials. It’s been a struggle that I’ve kinda just shoved off as a wistful dream at this point, but... I still think about it sometimes, lol.

And there’s definitely several other characters who I’ve definitely drawn more specific inspiration from, but this is already getting hella long, god...

Like, just for quickfire kind of things, Ambrose and Ysabel’s dynamic is highly inspired by Dragon Age lore, particularly mages, templars, the Circles, and a little pinch of Tevinter. And I’m just gonna stop myself there because I have... too many characters to talk about.

Which reminds me!!! I am currently very slowly in the process of doing actual character pages for them, so please look forward to that. They are actual Tumblr pages now, so, unfortunately, they won’t show up on mobile, but I thought it was the best way to consolidate information on them instead of just leaving everything up to the tagging void to solve. Astor’s is currently the only one I have finished (though there are... several typos. One day I will go back and fix that. Maybe. >.>) and I’m in the process of working on Shay’s, so there is a link in my sidebar now for that base launch page. I’ll add links to their individual pages from there as I finish them. <3

Q: I’m not 18, but I’m going to be very soon! Can I still sign up?

A: You have to be 18+ at the time of submitting your form. If you are 18: you can submit a form! If you’re 17, you can’t. If you’re going to be 18 a few months after the start date, you’re welcome to join as a spectator, but it will be too late to join in as a player. Apologies :(

Q: When will spectators be allowed to join?

A: We’re not sure when or how we’re going to open it up to spectators, but it will happen! It’s gonna be a lot less intensive than player apps- basically ‘are you 18 and can you send a social media to verify it’. It WILL be before we start though, and unlike player apps, spectator apps will never close!

Q: What are you looking for in terms of RP quality and length?

A: Answered in detail here! TLDR, we’re looking for quality over quantity. We are still looking for high-quality roleplayers… though high quality doesn’t always mean super active or super long/fancy responses each time- quality means 'fun to roleplay with’!

Q: How many people will you be accepting?

A: This depends on several factors, including if I have a lot of people playing 2 characters vs 1 character, what characters I think could mesh well, and also my mental state whenever the application accepting times rolls around (it's easier to manage less people, though more can be potentially more fun). I'm shooting for around 10-15 people max, and about 20-30 characters max. I'm just gonna eyeball it when the time comes.

Q: How will characters be chosen, and will there be any preference/bias?

A: Players will be chosen on a lot of factors, mostly on their passion for their characters, quality of writing, and if their character is already taken or not. There is no purposeful bias towards OCs, canon characters, etc.

Q: How ‘close do canon’ do my interpretations of canon characters have to be? Can I deviate from canon?

A: Yes, you can deviate from canon! I go into more detail here, but TLDR: Characters are 100% open to player interpretation and even redesigns. The only 'limit' is that they have to be recognizable as their original character to some extent. Otherwise, go crazy go stupid!

Q: Help! I messed something up on my form!

A: That’s ok! You can edit it.

Q: You mentioned these inklings will be partially xeno/bio-based- what exactly is the anatomy here?

A: Yep! The setting is semi-xeno, but not extreme. There’s a visual guide here if you’d like, but I recommend reading the rest of this anyway. Some of the details include the fact that ALL inkfish (inklings, octolings, and any other cepahlopods) are:

Humanoid (no mantles or oddly shaped limbs)

Have (usually white) beaks, not teeth

Often have freckles/colored splotches, and small glowing freckles/spots

Have white ‘meat’ and blue blood, but are supported by pressurized ink in place of bones

Clean water does not kill them- but they have very porous, fragile skin that means they can absorb dirty water/mutagen quickly to make them sick, and their skin can be torn by enough of a pressurized blast of water (think a power washer or high-power hose).

The main differences between inklings and octolings (aside form the obvious like ears and masks) are:

Inklings have purely round/circular pupils, while octolings have pupils that can widen/contract between horizontal and round

Inklings have thin, catlike retractable claws/’hooks’, while octolings have thicker claws that are more of a hard extension of the finger

Inkling hair is NOT prehensile- it’s mostly made of fat. It cannot feel pain, and only bleeds a little bit. This makes them better at storing nutrients. However, octoling tentacles ARE prehensile, can feel pain, and will bleed heavily if cut- but they have little fat storage on them.

For non-inkfish characters, just about anything is up for grabs (within reason).

Q: What if my characters have a feature that isn’t supported by these headcanons?

A: This is sort of a case-by-case basis. Generally, your base character will have to fit the qualifications above just for consistency’s sake across all players. If your character has a unique feature- IE, strangely shaped pupils, tail, etc- that you want to keep, there’s a possibility that they could be already partially mutated, but managed to keep their sanity.

This has a lot of pros and cons- pros include unique features and potentially abilities (tail for balance, good vision, extra long claws, quills)... but it also means they’re only one tiny accident away from becoming fully mutated, while other players have that health buffer. If that happens, you lose control of your character for the duration they’re mutated. This isn’t even bringing up the potential discrimination they may face IC, as many people are wary of partial mutants.

If you want to do this, or aren’t sure, feel free to message me with the details.

Q: Can I play a non-inkling/octoling species?

A: Yes! You can play as any species that fits into the settings of splatoon! Most marine animals are fair game, including marine invertibrates and fishes. Sapient marine mammals are iffy, as they’re technically canon by a one-off line. I will accept fully marine mammals such as dolphins and narwals, but not semi-aquatic animals, such as sea otters. Some ideas of accepted species includes: shrimps, jellies, nudibranches, eels, any saltwater fishes, urchins, salmonids, etc.

I also will not be allowing sapient reptiles, birds, land/semi-aquatic mammals, or land invertebrates. Also, I won’t be accepting ‘magical’ (Ghosts, cryptids, etc) or unrealistic hybrid creatures (An eel/inkling hybrid born naturally, salmonlings), as this is a slightly more realistic as opposed to fantastic setting.

Q: But if I play a non-cephalopod character, how will they fight with ink?

A: Good news! Ink isn’t the main weapon here.

Ink is used as a weapon still, but less offensively and more tactically. Having a small ink gun on hand is useful for making quick getaways, distracting/stalling mutants, and even spraying it in their face as a distraction, deterrent, or to blind them if you do go to attack. For most mutants, however, ink will not kill or ‘splat’ them, as not all mutants are inklings mutants. Plus, it would be unfair to non-inkfish characters.

Physical weapons such as bats, knives, and guns (and even some weirder stuff like swords, bows, etc)  are going to be your go-to, like any apocalypse, though ink weaponry in addition can be a big boon in a battle.

This is also a good time to mention that while we don’t have specific stats or anything, your character’s species will affect how they fight and are impacted by fights.

Inkfish are very fast and can jump very high, are extremely resistant to blunt force trauma, and can use ink... but are very weak to slicing/piercing things and chemicals/mutagen because of their thin skin. Urchins can’t use ink and may be slow, but have potentially toxic spines and hard skin that resists piercing damage. Shrimp might have a fragile exoskeleton and not a lot of natural weapons, but it makes them very resistant to chemical and mutagen splashes. It’s all good stuff to keep in mind!

Q: There’s a lot of questionable/offensive/weird content in Coroika. Will this be allowed/what elements of coroika will there be?

A: The short answer is ‘only some minor elements will be taken, and all weird/offensive stuff MUST be retconned or addressed’. We’re mostly going to be supporting the game’s canon, NOT the comic’s canon. I go into this more detail here, which I suggest you read if you plan on playing a Coroika character.

Q: Who are the mods?

A: Myself and @bubblegum-spaceboy​ are the main two mods who will be doing the bulk of the important NPC/world stuff!

However, we have two sub-mods who helped create the server/concepts, and will also be there to help out with little stuff if neither of us are available, and play some minor NPCs. These two are @bombcollar​, and my friend Emmy who doesn’t really use tumblr lol.
