reading tftsa is always an emotional experience especially when you get the short stories focused around the Blackthorns because the absence of Mark just bleeds out. like when you read about Julian being Helen's suggenes and Simon being the witness to Julian's parabatai ceremony you are just burdened with the knowledge that that's not who they would have picked if the circumstances were different. in a different life it was Mark.

Dale and his struggle with accepting his bisexuality is honestly. just so fucking well made. the fact that he's been repressing since he was a teenager and we can see it in every single episode since episode one, when he freezes when Adam calls him, when he instinctly denies that Tim is gay (even tho he is, and and it takes Helen and Tim spelling it out for Dale to get it), how he goes into panic mode every time Tim as much as speaks to him, when he walks away from Tim after kissing him like he was starving, when he comes to Helen afterwards and just hides in the bathroom, when he can't hold it in anymore after seeing his highschool love in love with a man publicly and cries and realizes he just wanted to apologize to him, when he admits to Helen he's been with Adam and Tim and says it wasn't him, that's not what happened, that was a moment of weakness, this isn't him. when he finally tells Tim he got the cops called on him and was dragged in front of everyone to the police station it just all snaps into focus, all of his pain and repression and trauma. and then, he just wants to talk to Helen. just tell her he loves her and that he has those feeling that will never go away. and then he finally hears what he always wanted and needed to hear. I love you just the way you are.
