hello! here is a legacy challenge i created while playing the Garden Legacy challenge. i didn’t want to finish on my tenth gen and decided to create my own challenge, based on crystals. this challenge can be continued from a previous save or started in a new one! i also tried to implement base game options for those who don’t own all the packs! some gens do need packs but if you don’t have them, they may be skipped.

“Elisa. I’m such a huge fan of both of you. My question is for Jensen. I watched a video you did talking about the actress Y/N. She just finished her movie Black Widow. Is it true you have a crush on her?”

He shared with Pochita all the time, always hand feeding him, so sharing one thing, eating off the same plate, wearing each others clothes, etc is like his only little love language. It makes him feel close to you.

Denji can be dumb, but I think he's good with numbers and money as he's able to calculate his debt and costs quickly, so he's actually good at keeping track of your money, it's just that large purchases don't feel very real to him because he could never imagine something as simple as buying a new console.

On the flip side, small purchases can make him anxious. He actually checks that he has enough for the littler purchases, but when he's done triple-checking, he gets all excited and will go wild!!

Watch out this man could probably eat cardboard fine but he will eat himself into tummy aches :[[

If you pay for Denji, you end up paying for Power (and Meowy) too, she will throw a bit of a tantrum if all three of you are together and you only get Denji and yourself something. She also tells you that it's unfair to not buy Meowy something on the way back, and that you need to get him a cat tower. She will bite and steal and claw and whine, but somehow you two don't mind.

Denji desperately needs more clothes and he finally gets to chose what to wear! Imagine him at a thrift store or simple warehouse looking at shirts and wondering what he likes and whats comfy, not what's cheapest. He dress in some god awful patterns and colours at first, but it's good for him to explore, so you encourage him

Denji probably has never even touched silk in his life, so when you want to get him some clothes with nice material, start small, otherwise he'll overwhelmed. Gift him a fancy shirt to start and he loses his mind over how soft it is, then work up and you can take him to a department store and a tailor, he looks so damn good in a black, silk dress shit with a low cut

GET THIS BOY BATH BOMBS!! My guy is happy just to bathe everyday, bubble bath, bath bombs and oils, romantic candles, flower petals, blow his mind!! Spoil him in every way!!

Speaking of, Denji also loves doing activities together!! Take him to a quiet onsen in the country for a weekend, where its calm and peaceful, lord knows he needs more of it. Denji usually doesn't mind being around a lot of people, but some venues, like a concert is a lot for him, but please also gift him experiences like theme parks, bath houses, fairs! He loves spending time with you!

When no one else is around, he'll talk to Pochita in his chest. It makes him feel a bit better about missing him. He'll talk about how you dote on him and show him yummy foods, that he's in his lover arms playing video games and so much more they didn't even dream of. Pochita loves you too for taking such good care of Denji

Most people in his life try to buy him or use him, so to be with you, kind-hearted lover you are, is a first for him. To have someone give with no expectations of giving back, purely to make him happy, its so foreign to our baby boy that he just might cry. The only relationship comparable is with Pochita, and while they do love each other unconditionally, it did start off with a deal.

Denji loves his gifts, but when he thinks of the best times with you, its because you two are together, trying out a new restaurant or cuddling in bed, or even giving him a cool rock you found, he loves it all. He always wants to be your lover-boy, money or not

Please enlighten me. Do not hold back. I want to hear every excruciating detail, from lore to gameplay.

and if you want to know *exactly* how much I know, all the media of ultrakill I have consumed is random pictures of the sentient security camera and Gohrdahn’s video on SPARECHANGE%. also asking people who have no idea what’s going on about what’s going on is funny, so so far all I’ve picked up is that you’re a robot angel thing from hell and you fighting your way to heaven. Machines killed everyone and I wonder if the protagonist finds the metal areas more disturbing than the fleshy areas; after all, they’re seeing what is basically their insides, no?

No offense, but wow is that summary incorrect! Let's rectify that!

I'll only be covering the lore because, even though I've finished the game (so far), I don't fully understand the mechanics.

Be warned that some information may be incorrect since my memory sucks, and it also may become outdated in the future, as the game is still in development.

Also, I really recommend just playing the game. It's very good so far!

Anyway,

The ULTRALORE

Long ago, humanity had a Big War™ and built robots powered by blood. Remember that last point, it will be important later. One of these robots is our protagonist, V1; a blue robot with large, glowing wings that it uses to store its weapons, Hammerspace-style.

Eventually, the war ended, but humanity still used the robots for stuff like security. They also discovered Hell, which coincidentally happened to be structured identically to Dante Alighieri's interpretation, as seen in the Divine Comedy (Limbo -> Lust -> Gluttony -> Greed -> Wrath -> Heresy -> Violence -> Fraud -> Treachery).

An indeterminate amount of time before this, Minos, king of the layer of Lust, tried to improve the living conditions of his people, believing it to be wrong that they were being judged for the "crime" of love. He was killed by the archangel Gabriel (yes, that one) and had his soul imprisoned within the Flesh Prison, a half-demon half-angel living cage, forced to watch his gigantic corpse destroy his own realm. At another point in time (though I am not sure when it happened in relation to the last one), King Sisyphus (yes, that one) tried to rebel against Heaven, and was killed; unlike Minos, whose body lived on as a gigantic Husk, Sisyphus was beheaded and crucified within a secret chamber inside a pyramid in the Greed layer, while his soul was imprisoned within the Flesh Panopticon.

Back to the present, V1 got a younger, more-advanced sibling named V2, designed for security purposes and equipped with an explosive punch. Meanwhile, the people exploring Hell discovered that the entire realm is alive.

And then all of humanity died of probably robot-related causes.

So naturally, the robots made a beeline for Hell; after all,

MANKIND IS DEAD. BLOOD IS FUEL. HELL IS FULL. BABA IS YOU

One of these robots is V1. It entered Hell through some kinda funky mechanical entrance thing, where it encountered other Machines, as well as Husks (the embodiments of human souls) and Demons (statues filled with Magic Meat™ that animates them and gives them powers), collecting blood as it went. Eventually, V1 reached the gates of Hell (which, much like in the Divine Comedy, have the phrase "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" written across them), defeated the Cerberi (a pair of Demons resembling simplified versions of the Thinker), and entered Limbo.

The ULTRAKILL version of Limbo is interesting, though fairly basic compared to the later layers; the "sky" is made of screens, ambient nature-sounds come from poorly-hidden speakers, and there are folly-like "ruins" everywhere. V1 continues its journey, fighting the Hideous Mass (a large Demon resembling a scorpion or maybe lobster with the Creation Of Adam carved onto the tops of its claws, along with a harpoon-tail, and lots of exposed demonic flesh leaking out from large gaps in its armour) on the way. Eventually, it reaches a serene church, where it encounters V2. After a long battle, V2 escapes, dropping its left arm; V1 takes it and leaves, entering Lust.

Lust is a gigantic Cyberpunk cityscape, with Minos's gigantic Husk towering in the distance.

It's one of the most beautiful areas in the entire game.

As V1 travels through the layer, it gets closer to Minos, until the dead king himself attacks V1; it kills him, and a gateway to Gluttony appears in his throat.

At time of writing, Gluttony is the most conceptually-obvious layer, being a big organic thing with wobbly meat-walls, giant searchlight-eyes, spine-bridges and lakes of stomach acid. Shortly after arriving, V1 is contacted by a mildly-peeved Gabriel, telling it to "turn back now", as "the walls of this palace are not for your kind". Naturally, lacking any sense of self-preservation, nor any percievable emotion, V1 proceeds to battle Gabriel in front of a gigantic beating heart. Gabriel loses, swears his revenge, and proceeds to have a tantrum and call V1 an "insignificant fuck", then teleports away in a blinding flash of light. V1 drops down the hole in the bottom of the arena...

Disgrace. Humiliation. Unseemly and unwelcome at the feet of The Council. Their eyes ablaze with bitter resentment, glaring through Gabriel's wounds of body and soul, bore outward for all to see. "Has this one abandoned the way of our creator?" "It is unworthy of its Holy Light." "The Father's Light is indomitable." "This one sees fit to squander it." Their words resonated in Gabriel's limbs, coursing through as lightning upon wire, a searing hiss that would strike lessers deaf and blind. The Holy Light within him, an unstoppable force of divine fury. Insurmountable for mere Objects. This he knew. "Holy Council, my devotion to our creator is absolute. I have never strayed from the will of The Father, but a machine-" "You dare imply the might of The Father could be shaken by mere objects?" "Impossible." "Heresy." "Unspeakable." "Heresy." "Heresy." "Silence." "Your treachery will not be tolerated. As punishment, The Father's Light shall be severed from your body. You have 24 hours before the last of its embers die out." "And you with them." "Prove your loyalty." "Unmake your mistakes." As the Light was ripped from his being, Gabriel's screams were silenced in the hiss of gospel in praise of God. A boiling anguish to which even the fires of Hell could not compare. Through the blaze of torment a single burning hatred was forged anew. If the machines seek blood, he would give it freely; and with such fury, even metal will bleed.

... before landing in Greed, a vast desert with literal golden sand, with recreations of various famous landmarks. V1 fights a Sisyphean Insurrectionist, and later re-encounters V2, who has a new hookshot arm, but manages to beat the newer robot; the two end up in a high-speed chase down the side of a pyramid, but eventually V1 manages to get V2 to fall, with it landing hard on a nearby bridge, turning into a large, red stain.

V2 is canonically dead.

V1 grabs its arm, and leaves for Wrath.

Once upon a time, Wrath was the River Styx (yes, that one), before it suddenly turned into vast ocean. The souls of the damned literally fight for air, while those who lose hope fall to the bottom and [REDACTED FOR SPOILER REASONS].

V1 fights through a flooded underground complex, before ending up outside on a stormy night; they fight through many enemies, and manage to summon a gigantic cruise ship captained by a skeletal Ferryman, leading to ULTRAKILL's only moral choice at time of writing; using the revolver's Marksman mode, it is possible to throw a coin to the Ferryman. Alternatively, V1 battles the Ferryman (who is a gigantic Gabriel fanboy that carves demons into enemy-protecting Idols). Either way, this opens the path to inside the boat, which is attacked by a vast sea-monster; after escaping the now-capsized boat, V1 fights the Leviathan (a gigantic demon whose flesh was made from the Husks who gave up and sank to the bottom of the Ocean Styx; its heart, which sticks out of its head, has multiple angelic spears impaled into it, and constantly screams). V1 defeats the Leviathan, which explodes into a shower of blood, and the ocean splits open to reveal the entrance to Heresy.

Heresy is the most "hellish" layer yet; it's bright red, there's fire everywhere, and a lot of the buildings have goat-skulls on the walls. Gabriel, more furious after having his divine link severed, awaits V1. He goes off on one at it for killing everything in Hell, then tries to kill it again.

He loses, but this time, he's more graceful. Gabriel leaves to think, and his giant pipe-organ opens, revealing the entrance to Violence. That is where the story ends for now.

Silence. Introspection. How many had he killed? Had he ever thought to count? How much cruelty did he embody... and to what end? How many did he condemn to hell and who did it benefit..? Two defeats at the hands of the machine had changed Gabriel. The world of the one supposed Will of God was now shattered and only he was left to put the pieces back together. They collected before the light of a dying fire that fresh fuel couldn't sustain, this new light showing the truth to Gabriel: The pieces never fit together to begin with. The supposed Council of "the people" who boasted a God that wasn't there. Gone. Vanished. The Council still chased after the light of God's fire, their memory of its words and will grown twisted and warped, and the rest of the aimless masses of Heaven follow their footsteps. The angels still act in The Father's name but His kingdom has changed. Now the fire was dying, sputtering out as the heat failed to gain purchase. Gabriel looked upon the embers with a perfect clarity. He drew his blade and held it in contrast to the dying light. In its reflection he saw a weapon reborn, no longer wielded by the will of another, but his own. He knew words alone would never sway the masses. He chose to do something drastic. Death stains the auditorium. The littered corpses of the once mighty council now strewn against its surfaces, their last gasps of life dripping down the dissident blade of Gabriel's sword. The last councilor, now backed up to a wall, scrambles for words between panicked breaths as death approaches with measured steps. "W-wait! Y-you can't do this! Out status forbids it! This is treason, heresy, murder! We are the supreme authority, our law commands you! "You command nothing. Your words hold no power over me, or anyone else. Lest you truly believe you can talk my blade back into its sheath." "B-but the people are on our side! The citizens of Heaven know that we are just!" "The masses only follow you out of fear and desperation. I will show them there is nothing to be afraid of, for there is not species nor origin, vested rank or holy status that will stop the sharp edge of a sword. We all bleed the same blood, and the cushions of your thrones have made you weak and impotent." "P-please, Gabriel, see reason! The council follows the will of The Father! You seek to go against our creato-" "Face it, brother. God is Dead. The fire is gone. You're chasing phantoms." Gabriel's silhouette now towers over the councilor, his shadow cast upon a soon lifeless corpse. He raises his sword for the final cut as the crying mess on the floor stammers out its final feeble argument. "B-b-but the Father's light! Without me you cannot hope to reconnect with it! I-i-if you kill me, you'll be dead in a matter of hours!" ... "I know." A clean, silent cut glides through the councilor's neck, severing his spine with elegance and ease. His head falls onto the marble floor, the rest of his body following soon after. Bereft of status but brimming with purpose, Gabriel gave a final message to the angels amassed at the gates of the auditorium before leaving Heaven for the very last time. His arm outstretched, without a word, the people saw. In the silence the message rang out to the far ends of the cosmos.

The terminals encountered in Prime Sanctums and other secret levels reveal a bit more; most importantly that A. the terminals get bored, explaining the infinite Cyber Grind mode, and B. God regrets condemning Lucifer to Hell.

There's more, but honestly, play the game. It's really good.

summary: Robin is in love with the best girl on the color guard team, and little does she know you’re just as crazy for her

For 3 years Robin had been admiring you during pep rally’s and halftimes and other events. You joined color guard in freshman year at the same time Robin joined the band, and Robin now had the biggest crush on you because of it. You were considered one of the best on the team, you were very skilled and the tricks you were able to do made the crowd gasp and cheer throughout the performances.

And god, the way you looked had Robin messing up the music and nearly forgetting to play all together. You were so beautiful, and so confident too. You always came to the band members and told them how good they sounded, sometimes even bringing them snacks for after the games and the long and tiring school events.

What Robin didn’t know, was that you didn’t always watch band practice just to practice your routine. You didn’t stay after every game and talk to the band team only to congratulate the band team. You didn’t buy special snacks for Robin just because you overheard her talking about her gluten allergy just because.

You did all these things because you wanted to see her. You wanted to talk to her the most out of everyone. You wanted her to realize you listened to her and actually cared about her. But she never seemed to notice and it broke your heart sometimes.

Both of you were terrified the other was straight. So for 3 years you just watched each other, falling more in love with the other with every performance.

You started working at Family Video and shortly after Steve and Robin walked in with applications. You knew only one other position needed to be filled but you begged Keith to make up some other job so both of them could work here and you could see Robin more often and really truly get to know her.

When they started their first shift, Robin ran off to explore and memorize things on her own and it was just you and Steve. “I know there was only one position left. How did another suddenly open up if you’re still working here?” He asked and you looked around nervously.

You chuckled and said “uhh I’m not sure” “oh come on, I know you like her. It’s okay, I don’t care that you like girls. Besides, it’s kinda obvious. You were basically drooling when Robin was walking around trying to memorize the sections” he said and you chuckled nervously.

You blushed and said “ok, fine I like her. But please, please don’t tell her. I don’t know if I’m ready yet. Oh and uh, I convinced Keith to just kinda make a new position for her to fill” “alright, alright, I won’t tell her. But you don’t have to be scared about asking her out, trust me” he said and winked.

It still took you 3 months to say anything. It was the last basketball game of the year, and you were doing a solo routine. You were a little nervous, solo routines made you anxious because there was no one else to hide your mistakes.

“You’re gonna do good. You always do good,” Robin said and you sighed, fiddling with the flagpole. You smiled and said “thank you, Rob” She smiled and a few moments later everyone was on the field and was performing with incredible skill.

Robin watched you like she always did, admiring your focus as you twisted the green flag over your head and then waved it beautifully as you swayed your hips slightly to the song. God, those shorts looked too good on you.

When your solo came Robin was smiling so hard it was getting hard to play properly. You did amazing, didn’t even mess up once and you even improvised a few moves you had been working on that weren't actually supposed included in your performance, but that just made it 10x better.

Once everyone was off the field, you ran to the bathroom to catch a breather and also fix any makeup that got sweat off in the heat of Hawkins. Robin ran to the bathroom and tackled you in a hug, congratulating you and squealing about how amazing you did.

You giggled and said “are you sure it was good? Even the parts I improvised?” Of course Robin knew your entire routine by heart as she’d been watching you practice for weeks. She nodded and said “it was amazing! Dare I say, beautiful! It was! It was beautiful! I- you…you’re beautiful, y/n”

Your eyes widened at the words and she looked down at your lips for a second, before gently leaning in and kissing you softly. You smiled, kissed her back harder. She pulled away and gasped, covering her mouth.

Tears pricked her eyes and she said “I’m so sorry…please, oh god please don’t be mad at me. I don’t know what I was thinking- please don’t be mad-” “Robin, stop it. I’m gay. Like, really fucking gay. Especially for you”

Robin laughed, tears still streaming down her face. “Me too, y/n…me too” she said, whimpering a little but still chuckling. Your child trembled as you said “Robin, please don’t cry” You moved forward and cupped her cheeks, kissing her softly.

She kissed back just as soft as her hands found your waist, caressing it softly. You moved one hand to her back, pulling her flush against you. She smiled and you pulled away for air, pressing your forhead against hers.

“I really freaking like you, y/n. You don’t know how long I’ve waited to kiss you” Robin said and you chuckled. You sniffled and said “I like you too, Robin. I watched so many goddamn band practices just to see you and be in the same room as you. I don’t know how I went so long without kissing you, I don’t ever want to stop now” You pecked her lips softly and she giggled.

You brought her to your house after the game and after you showered she just couldn’t keep her hands off of you. She hugged you from behind as you made frozen pizzas and kept stealing kisses whilst you waited for it to cook.

You loved her, you knew that you loved her already. But you didn’t want to scare her away. So for now you’d let her smother you in kisses and you’d do the same, that girl has no idea what she just got into by dating you. You were completely and utterly obsessed with her. You loved everything about her.

Just you wait, Robin Buckley. You’ll be stuck with y/n for a long time.

MCC Team Video Game Concept

"What if MCC was a video game?" is definitely a concept we've all seen before, I think. Usually people go for 1v1 fighter arcade game style ideas - I present to you, what if MCC was a team video game like Overwatch, League or Team Fortress? This post is intended as a general introduction to my vision for what this game would be like, as well as a full kit for Grian, who I used as my test dummy for all of this.

Please note all numbers are placeholders and I have no idea what any base stats look like yet so the percentages are all kind of meaningless. <3

Gamemodes

Tournament: Players play 3 random MCC modes in a row, for example Parkour Tag -> Grid Runners -> Build Mart. Coin multipliers affect this mode.

Quick Game: Players can pick one specific game to play.

Practice Server: Self explanatory

Remix: Custom games

(I think in practice, you’d have to slightly reduce the player count per game, because no way would 40 player lobbies consistently be filled. Reducing it to 4 teams instead of 10 might work?)

Categories Most characters have a primary type and a secondary type, but some only have one - a bit like Pokemon types.  Please note that I categorically refuse to add anything remotely related to a “support” type for reasons that are obvious to anyone who has ever visited the MCC reddit. Players who genuinely are known for their supporting skills, like the H-factor, will still have those skills acknowledged but there will not be a specific category for it. There are also subcategories (like Elytrian and Parkourist for Movement players). These categories don’t provide any innate stats or anything, they’re just supposed to give you a very general idea of where a character’s skills lie.

Movement: Elytrian / Parkourist 

Builder

PvP: This would have subcategories for old PvP players (ie Bedwars players) and new PvP players but honestly I don’t know what to call them

Explorer: Keeper (talented sandkeepers) / Hunter (Vault Hunters and other strong SoT runners)

Survivalist: Haven’t decided the names for these subcategories yet either, but a distinction definitely needs to be drawn between DSMP-style survival players and Hermitcraft-style survival players. 

Specialist: No subcategories here either. This category pretty much encapsulates anyone with a very unique set of skills. Hbomb’s H-factor, for instance. I’d also probably include Wilbur here for the Wilbur glitch and also Fundy for... everything that Fundy is.

Characters

As well as their categories, each character will also have the following:

Kit: their abilities. This will usually consist of a passive and two active abilities. I’m aiming for this to be unique to every player, but that really depends on how creative I end up being.

Builds: the more you play using a character, you will unlock new builds for them, which may provide buffs or change their playstyle somewhat. These will usually reference moments in MCC history or a participant’s Minecraft career. For example, play 40 games as Smallishbeans and you unlock his Sippy Cup build, which provides boosts to all his stats. Pete’s Casual build, on the other hand, provides nerfs to his base stats but in exchange gives him extra synergies with other characters (see next point).

Synergy: when you have certain other characters on your team, you get a minor stat bonus! This encourages people to think more about their team’s composition. For example, if you’re playing as Tommy and there’s a Tubbo on your team, your max HP is increased slightly.

Drawbacks: because not everything is sunshine and rainbows, there need to be things a character isn’t good at too.

Cosmetics: provide absolutely nothing to gameplay, just little aesthetic bonuses to unlock! You’d use coins to purchase these for the most part.

With all of that being said, here’s a look at Grian! Unfortunately, graphic design is decidedly not my passion, so I do not have a handy visual of this.

Typing: Builder/Elytrian

Kit:

Trap School Graduate (passive): TNT placed by Grian will explode faster

Take Flight (active): Grian can launch himself into the air during Rocket Spleef. This ability can only be used once per game (not per round). 

Shopping List (active): During Build Mart, Grian can create a visual checklist on his team’s screens, showing how much is needed of one chosen block (I guess it’d work one block per build?) I’m not sure if this is explained well enough so as an example, if he has a build requiring 15 oak planks, he can put a little indicator on his team’s screens with a picture of oak planks and “x/15″ until all 15 blocks are placed down correctly.

Synergy:

5% increased mining speed per Hermit on the team

5% faster elytra flight speed when PeteZahHutt is on the team

5% faster run speed when Fruitberries is on the team

Deals 15% extra damage to enemy Dreams, or 20% if he is equipped with an axe

Drawbacks:

There is a 10% chance that TNT placed by him will not explode

His jump distance is reduced - I envision this game’s version of PKW to have two routes: one with less jumps but they’re harder and one with more easy jumps. Grian is only able to take the easy parkour due to his reduced jumps.

Builds:

Hermit: Standard.

3rd Life: Unlocked after playing 30 games as Grian. This replaces his Hermit synergy bonus with 5% increased attack per Last Lifer on the team, as well as a further increase to his attack during Sky Battle and Survival Games. 

Manager: Unlocked after playing 60 games as Grian. This changes him to a pure Builder type (disabling his Take Flight ability) and negates his Hermit synergies, but provides him with several buffs during Build Mart. His Shopping List can now show three items per build instead of only one. SB737 gets an extra synergy bonus (increased mining speed) when on a team with Manager Grian.

Mumbo moustache (this also changes his display name to Grien)

Ariana Griande skin

Link skin (unlocked through a secret achievement - you have to spectate 50 games, because. you know. watchers.)

Summary:

Deep in the forest, far from any human contact, there lives a child named Ryouma Takebayashi. He engages in the rather strange hobby of keeping various types of slimes as pets. Mafia that solves infighting by betting on highly illegal golf matches, golf eugenics, a high school golf tournament feeling like a more high-stakes event than the ACTUAL GODDAMN MAFIA… It’s incredibly campy in the best way possible, and the creators embrace the wild premise of the show with open arms. It’s masterful in suspension of disbelief, as by the end of the series I was nodding my head, thinking that truly, everything is possible with the power of golf. The series also has heavy yuri overtones, which, while not quite pulling through in the end, are definitely a big part of the appeal, and Aoi is my favorite lesbian daughter <3

Coming out again, because sometimes that’s important.

Hi. If you know me already, you can skip this first chunk. If you don’t, I’m Ben. I’m a teenage boy from the great midwest. I write, read, play DND and different video games. I like Splatoon and fried rice and fantasy and different futuristic aesthetics. I grew up on dystopian fiction and that’s part of the thing that’s made me so optimistic for a future for people like me. For the minorities, the marginalized, the attacked and abused. We’ve won before and we’ll win again, no matter how long the fight.

I’m a transgender, gay, and asexual boy. It took me a very long time to reach these labels, but now that I have I’m comfortable with them. They may change in the future, but for now, this is who I am.

I came out as bisexual at eight years old. I wasn’t ‘groomed’ into it- I was raised in a straight family with straight grandparents and straight aunts and uncles. None of my neighbors were openly queer and I almost solely consumed straight media. The only reason I was able to figure this out was because I had friends who were already figuring themselves out. The labels they used taught me that there were other options than straight and cis. I was curious and confused and a little hesitant, but that’s normal when you come across things that aren’t common to you. I learned and that was that. I sat down with my mom and told her I was bi and she said “me too.” That was my first realization that people like me were everywhere. We’ve always existed, just maybe not so openly.

I tried different labels and gender identities for years after that. Different pronouns, different names, but nothing quite stuck. Somethings felt better, but nothing felt good. I wrestled with attraction for a while. I’m autistic, and that can cause me to struggle a little with understanding my own feelings. The boys in the area I grew up in were downright cruel, too. I didn’t know any of them that I could possibly be actually attracted to. I was bi, pan, lesbian, aro/ace, pan again- it kept changing. There’s nothing wrong with that. I was testing out labels until I found what felt comfortable and that’s okay. Most self exploration isn’t linear.

And then I grew older and I started meeting boys who actually were decent. Around that time, I was starting to dip closer and closer to he/him pronouns. I was slowly learning that masculinity and boys aren’t inherently evil; the place I was raised in had a strong ‘boys will be boys’ culture. They were expected to be loud and rough and cruel. Then I found boys who wouldn’t make fun of you for your identity or your race or your mental or physical disabilities or simply just for being different. Masculinity isn’t inherently evil and I was allowed to be masculine.

So I let myself try he/him pronouns and a boy’s name and I let myself admit I’m attracted to boys and more masculine people. I still remember how it felt like a weight off my chest when people started using he/him pronouns for me. I started looking at gay ship art and reading gay fiction and once I’d had my fill of projecting myself onto one of those guys, I moved on to just generally queer media. I watched people like me thrive and create and exist exactly as they were.

We were always here, we always will be here. Coming out is one of the scariest queer experiences I can think of, even when it’s just coming out to yourself. But it is worth it, even if you’re the only one who knows. It’s okay to not come out to other people or to only come out to specific people. This is a beautiful, personal part of you and no-one is entitled to it. Never let anyone tell you your identity makes you less deserving of a gorgeous, beautiful, happy life.

It’s not a new idea in video games: an item that lets you step outside your body for a moment, controlling some projectile or something while your character stands there. It can be a really fun trick, but it’s always made riskier by leaving your main body open to attack - which, in short, makes it a great way to bring new experiences to the game. Let’s bring it to TF2.

RC Rover Iteration 1 Engineer secondary (*) Press your fire button to consume 150 metal and start to build a remote-control rover, which takes 10 seconds to build (but can be wrench-boosted) and which you control instead of your own Engineer. The rover has 150 health and moves at default speed. It has a shotgun function (primary fire) and a small rocket launcher (secondary fire) that has a short cooldown. It cannot be healed by any means and has 20 shotgun shots and 10 rockets loaded, which can be reloaded by touching its Engineer creator. (*) Press your taunt button to destroy the rover and return to your main character. (-) After being destroyed by any means, the rover takes 20 seconds before it can be deployed again (-) Rover charge bar starts empty and cannot be filled by touching a resupply locker (-) If you die while the rover is out, it is also destroyed. (-) Cannot control the rover while in a spawn area

This idea is so complex that I’m sure I won’t be able to weigh and discuss all of its gameplay options, so I’ll just cover some.

To start off, I love this idea. There’s so many new experiences for you, your team, and your enemies to have. It’s absolutely worth exploring, even though there will certainly be difficulties.

Control How this rover is controlled is critically important. That was why I made it move like a player rather than like a vehicle (such as some classes’ movement taunts). Players won’t use a movement option that feels clunky or ineffective, so it’s very important that this rover not become some kind of Mario Kart-esque minigame and instead be intuitive to use.

Anxiety and separation One issue I always have with these kinds of abilities is that it’s stressful to leave my character vulnerable. That goes triple given how important it is to always be aware in TF2, especially while you’re maintaining your buildings. Of course, that just means you have to be judicious about when you use it, which is absolutely fair. But it can be quite punishing to get wrong, and in many cases, team protection is what will keep you alive. That’s a problem for situations where the team can’t or won’t help, giving the rover user a frustrating experience.

One user experience I’m also wondering about is how it would feel to see your Engineer take damage but not be able to deactivate the rover fast enough to save yourself. It can be shocking enough to die quickly, as anyone who’s been backstabbed or headshot can tell you, but what about when you feel like you just couldn’t save yourself? This was a major complaint with the Sandman’s stun functionality, and even though this is sort of self-imposed effect, I wonder about frustration and how players might deal with that.

Too fun to do anything else You might have met the kind of Engineer who builds a mini-sentry and goes off to do their own thing, leaving the team without a Dispenser or Teleporter. Given the excitement of playing in this rover, I can definitely see Engineers hiding in a corner, building this, and not paying any attention to their team.

I really can’t overstate how important the Engineer, and especially the Dispenser and Teleporter, are to their team’s success. It should be as easy as possible to build and maintain all of your buildings, and an extra metal cost plus the ability to fight far away from them is a risk to the team. Good Engineers will build all their buildings before they set out in their rover - but how would it feel when you don’t have a good Engineer?

Conclusion In this post, I mostly discussed potential sticking points with this weapon. I don’t want those to fully represent the idea, though, and it’s worth noting that many of the issues are rooted in the fact that it’s just such a fun and unique ability. That’s a huge win for this rover because it means that the idea itself will attract players and keep them playing. Even if there are things to watch out for, this item is a very cool idea.

“I’ll help Josuke with the speech.” You said. Okuyasu instantly let out a cry, burying his face in his hands. Rohan groans, rolling his eyes at the boy’s exaggeration.

“You’ve done essays before Okuyasu, you're not going to die.” Rohan waved his hand, flipping through the packet again to see the details of the speech. He read the requirements under the speech section, “Alright, well. You two can decide how you split the work.”

“(Y/N), let’s try and work on this later after school.” Josuke said, “If Mr. Kira’s really going to give us a week to do this, we need to get a head start.” Right after Josuke’s sentence ended, Okuyasu began pleading with you.

“C’mon (Y/N)!” Okuyasu held his hands together, “You gotta help me instead! I can’t do an essay on my own!”

“That’s what you get for not switching spots with me.” Josuke said, “Besides, if it makes you feel better, we’ll go over it and fix any of your mistakes.” Okuyasu crossed his arms, staring angrily at his desk. Obviously he hated the idea of doing the essay in the first place. Lowly, you heard him mumble, ‘I shoulda just held it in’. Finally, Mr. Kira spoke to the class.

“Alright. I’ve decided to skip the syllabus for today. We can talk about it tomorrow. We’ll do your introductions and then you can go back to talking about your projects.” Mr. Kira said, looking up from his watch. He held onto the sides of his podium. Mr. Kira scanned the room, pointing to the group nearest to the door. “Why don’t we begin your introductions? State your full name and a thing you like or your favorite thing to do.” The students in the group each looked at one another. One eventually spoke up first, saying their name.

It continued on, some more friendlier and outspoken than others. When it came to your table, Rohan said he liked to create stories. Josuke said he liked to play video games with his siblings. Okuyasu somehow managed to convince the entire class his favorite thing to do was read even after Mr. Kira personally called him out on his bluff. You said your favorite thing to do was hang out with your friends.

“As I promised, I’ll give you the rest of the class period to discuss your project.” Mr. Kira closed his attendance book for the roll, “Do not expect this all the time. Remember, we will go over the syllabus tomorrow. Proceed. Keep your voices low.” He walked to his desk, holding onto the book.

The class filled up with chatter slowly. At your table, Josuke spoke first.

“So how are we going to do this?” Though his comment was directed at you, Rohan replied,

“It’s simple Josuke. We work on our parts, get together a day prior for when it’s due, go over it with each other and present it the next day.” He tapped his desk with his pen, “We will be giving updates on how we’re doing as we go along.”

“And Rohan works on the essay for Okuyasu.” Okuyasu gave a thumbs up and a wink. Rohan wasn’t amused at his joke, showing it fully on his facial expressions. Josuke rolled his eyes.

“Pretty sure that was obvious. I meant, (Y/N), how are we going to work together on our part?” Josuke said, giving Rohan a side glance and watching the writer glare at him. “If you’re free any day this week, we can meet up in person.”

“Well, the only thing I have so far is to go to this new restaurant with my friends.” You scratched your head. You’d made plans with them just last night. If you’re being honest, you’d probably choose working on the project over the group hangout. Mostly because you focused on the school work before doing anything else. “I’m sure Nikki won’t mind if I can’t make it.”

Nikki was your friend from 8th grade. The two of you were stuck sitting next to each other for assigned seats. Not complaining since you both got along really well. Turns out, Nikki was going to the same high school with you. Though you always wish you’d known being friends with Nikki meant you were also stuck with two blood sucking leeches named Kat and Vale. Still, you loved them even if they constantly roasted your occasional new crush.

“Oh Nicolas?” Josuke smiled, “How’s he doing? I haven’t had a class with him in a while.”

“You had a class with Nikki last year, shut up.” Okuyasu threw a balled up paper to his face. Rohan snorted at the act, probably wanting to do it as well.

“Whatever the case may be,” Rohan started, “Just let Josuke know separately if you’ll be able to make plans with him.” Rohan started writing notes on the packet.

“Now that we’re speaking about them, I don’t think Kato really likes me.” Josuke frowned, “He seems so stiff whenever I try to say anything to him.”

“Mind focusing on what we actually have to talk about?” Rohan said, “Asking if Kato likes you or not isn’t important. Besides, he’s not a topic of interest for me.” Were you going to defend Kato right now? No. He deserves it especially after saying you looked like you ate crayons as a kid last night.

“Hold on,” Josuke pulled out his phone, “I’m going to make the group chat for us really quick. Hopefully Mr. Kira doesn’t say anything.” Josuke kept switching from his phone to Mr. Kira, sitting behind his desk and typing away on his computer.

Josuke quickly made the groupchat, sending a message in as well. You and Okuyasu pulled out your phones, reading the message in silence which said, ‘Don’t add Rohan because I don’t like him’. Still looking at the packet, Rohan noticed the talking between the group dropped and he lifted his head. Seeing you all on your phones, he assumed Josuke had finally made the chat for the project.

“What’s so funny?” Rohan’s eyes shifted between the three smiles in front of him.

“Nothing.” Josuke shook his head, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Send us pictures of the packet later today so (Y/N) can start dividing our work.” Rohan muttered an ‘I know’ and began searching in his book bag for a highlighter.

“Also, I’m hanging out with Nikki, Kat, and Vale on Wednesday.” You pointed at Josuke, “So do you want to meet up maybe Thursday and Friday? I feel like tomorrow would be way too rushed.”

“Yeah that’s fine with me.” Josuke leaned back in his chair, “Tomorrow we can do a call and talk about it or just text. Whichever you’d like.”

“Why don’t you help me with the essay tomorrow?” Okuyasu did his best to give a pleading eye look, obviously not working on you. “In return, you can have all the love that you want. It’s for free.” You held Okuyasu’s hand, giving a tight squeeze to where the boy began saying ow repeatedly.

“You’re a big boy Okuyasu. I think you can pull through with this essay.” You finally let go of his hand. He started to shake it, giving you an angry look from how tight the grip was. Rohan placed his hands on his desk, letting out a sigh.

“Alright, I’ve highlighted what I think Mr. Kira is looking for the most. This is just a recommendation but I do suggest that you take it.” Rohan put the highlighter back in his book bag. “With that, if you have any trouble and don’t understand it, let me know. I will do my best to explain it.” The three of you nodded.

“Please begin packing up and line up at the door.” Mr. Kira stood up from his chair, “You will leave at the exact time this class ends everyday. Not a second late. I do not want anyone staying over.” With the five minutes given, you and the rest of your classmates followed his rule. Maybe it was one of the best perks when having Mr. Kira as your teacher.

“Remember, (Y/N) and Josuke, you decide on what you’ll do for your part. Okuyasu, when you finish your essay, send it to me and I’ll read it.” Rohan held the packet in his hand, “I’ll send pictures of it when I get home.” The bell finally rang, each student walking out in a single line as per Mr. Kira’s request.

Rohan was ahead of you three, Josuke leaned over,

“How long until he notices he’s not in the groupchat?”

Biography: Satu Meriläinen grew up exploring the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, Australia, and foraging through pine forests in rural Finland. Now she lives with her wife and two dogs in Melbourne. She adores fantasy and science fiction with sprinklings of magical realism. Story Title: Carved of Ice and Snow

Teaser:

Tendrils of ice had squirmed beneath it and were winding their way towards the stranger’s supine body. Siofra lunged forward and stomped her heels hard into the ice, shattering it below her heel. It splattered the floor with shards and mud from the tread of her boots. Muttering, she glared at the tendrils, which quickly slunk back to linger, uncertainly, by the door. To vent her frustration, she sent her kicked-off boots to thud against the door above them.

Despite her anger, the ice tendrils lingered. Siofra almost fancied they were wistfully waiting for a chance to reach for…

She turned to the stranger, moving closer to kneel by their side. Despite the heat filling the room, the snow that coated them was still intact. Siofra brushed it away with brisk swipes of her hands, hands travelling up the stranger’s body, fingertips trailing over powerfully built muscles. The stranger was, so far as Siofra could tell, a normal elvish—no, human, judging by the rounded ears—woman who wore a loose dress dyed in irregular starbursts of colour that shifted like sunlight off a flowing stream.

He Bears the Cape of Stars Contributor Spotlight: Maggie Page

Biography: Maggie Page lives in Texas with family, including her incorrigibly clumsy mom with a green thumb, two silly dogs who are also mother and daughter, and a fierce feline hunter. Maggie has previously published several poems and a piece of flash fiction with collegiate and independent journals.

When not indulging the urge to write, Maggie enjoys music, traveling, camping, dabbling in various art forms, principally watercolor and graphic making, and torturing her loved ones with her ruthless board game victories.

Stepping out the door felt like leaving another dimension. He carried his prize as if the plants harbored a little bit of magic and settled the bouquet carefully into his car. Unable to resist his curiosity, Marcelo reached for the card. Inside, he found a poem like those in the adventure stories he’d read as a child.

A rose for love is too cliché

to express what I would say.

These blooms for you instead convey

noble qualities you display:

You never do a thing halfway.

When others go, you always stay.

You take the time to savor play.
