I watched Dance Dance Danseur & while I enjoyed it, I have some thoughts.
1. The fact that the MC’s name changed from Junpei in the manga to Jumpei in the anime... How am I supposed to take a MC in a ballet anime seriously if his name is basically Jumpy?? He’s like the Moon Moon of ballet.
2. This guy would have gotten his ass kicked out on day 1 because he has no discipline. Ballet teachers irl would not take his crap.
Example: I almost got myself kicked out on day 1 b/c my dance teacher’s oldest daughter was bullying her youngest (my friend) & I stood up for my friend. My 6 year old self made a 10 year old cry because I said her head was a bagel and her legs were green beans. I almost didn’t get to dance b/c of that.
3. His little on-stage improv stunt that shortened the dance time for the little girls would not have gone over well w/ anyone. Especially the kids. 1/2 of them would be in tears & the rest would be out for his blood. They worked hard for that performance & he took it away. Like, ur not the main character of ballet Jumpy, get it together.
Massive spoilers for all available parts of YTTD and 999
I hope this was enough space, so let's start. I don't know if it was talked about, but these guys have a lot in common. For instance:
Using alias instead of real name (Sou and June instead of Shin and Akane);
Manipulating others for their own gain;
Having more knowledge about their respective death games then other participants;
Doing everything for the sake of survival though they clearly dislike their own actions, in a way they have to act like they do to live;
They are kinda alive and kinda dead: with Akane self-explanatory, in-game her Schrodinger cat situation is the focus of attention. With Shin my point is a bit flimsy, but we can choose in chapter 2 if he dies or lives (at the moment we don't know if he survives to the end, but he has a chance), so he is alive in logic route and dead in emotion route simultaneously;
They have one sibling each that loves them and helps them, despite knowing dangers and threats of death;
They are connected to number 0: Akane is Zero and her bracelet number is thought to be 0, and Shin has 0.0% of survival;
The difference is, Shin is almost like other participants, manipulated by kidnappers like a blind kitten. He does know he has no chance unless he changes, but he has no clue whatsoever how to avoid death, so he takes actions that could actually lead to his demise. Akane, on the other hand, is the mastermind behind second nonary game. She knows everything that can happen, she saw it all, she just doesn't know what branch will happen and has to hope Jumpei chooses the right path, at the same time repeating everything she did in "good" future.
Their relationships with main character are also polar oposites. Akane loves Jumpei, trusts him and hopes he will save her. She knows him as person and knows how to use him. And then we have Shin trying to kill Sara for like the 20th time because he has a clearly wrong idea about this highschooler. Torn papers sowed distrust, so he expects her to kill him and therefore hates her. Also, his manipulation attempts obviously fall flat.
Their conduct in general is different as well. Akane appears cute, kind, naive, innocent, maybe weak... she deceives everybody (player included) that she is this girl you want to protect. Not that she is wolf in sheep's clothes, she is kind, but not to the extend we expect, as her actions are far more calculated. With Shin... at first he is timid and only mildly suspicious, then we have "reveal" of his true self: manipulative and cunning. Nobody trusts him (player included), and Shin maintains this image of scary, unlikable and unhinged foe until the real reveal. He was really trying to appear strong and threatening, but in fact was weaker and kinder. Like he's a sheep in wolf's clothes that at first tried to wear sheep's clothes.
I made a TikTok it’s Jumpei and Natsuki from the manga Dance Dance Danseur 🩰✨. I’ve been obsessed with it since I watched the anime in the spring season. I’m caught up to the English translation, but went ahead and skimmed through the raw. I love this couple the chemistry and attraction they have with it each other is so sweet 💕😍🥰🩰✨
Saw people posting their knifes out dream casts on Twitter and wel, I have a proposal
Knifes out but it’s just Benoit Blanc having to deal with these anime detectives (I think most of them are different enough in personality that it would really funny to see em interact)
I wanne see how people think they would interact, like I think Benoit blanc would be really sweet to Naoto, Shuichi and Kyoko as they’re allot younger, Akechi too but he would instantly push away.
