#just because camila is a good mom for going with luz to the demon world doesnt make the boonchuys bad for sending anne to amphibia alone
yes there are more and more childrens works nowadays that do talk about the moral implications of putting children in dangerous situations but it’s usually like. really clear if that’s what the work wants to talk about. otherwise children’s media have child protagonists get up to funky adventures and save the world because it’s children’s media. targeted towards children. who have rich internal lives outside of their interactions with adults. who want to see people like themselves be the hero of a story same as adults do.
like as a fan of childrens shows myself im certainly not going to scoff at adults who like children’s shows bc some of them are genuinely good but. if youre not part of the target audience then it’s expected that you go into children’s media with some suspension of disbelief? like no a plucky 12 year old irl probably can’t fight god no matter how much they love their friends and if a creepy old man beams out of the sky to tell them to then you should probably call the police. but if the show is positing the plucky 12 year old as the protag and the creepy old man as their mentor then just. go with it?
there is media that shows how a child protagonists’s adventures could be traumatizing and how the adults around the protag have failed them by letting them go on an adventure in the first place. that kind of story can resonate with kids too. but your takeaway from that kind of story should be “sometimes adults put kids in unfair situations and this is a fantastical representation of an irl situation.” your takaway shouldn’t be “the adults in this story suck for letting a 10 year old fight a dragon therefore every single story where a 10 year old fights a dragon should also talk about why all the adults involved suck and if they don’t then it’s a bad story” like. the dragon is not the point here!
frankly if you look at children’s media and cannot bring yourself to do the one bit of suspension of disbelief needed to keep the story going then. what are you doing here? if you want to explore how adults put children in dangerous situations and use an adventure style story as a backdrop then there are many works, both for children and adults, that explore this. but just because a piece of children’s media has the same vibes as another piece that explores something doesn’t make the first piece bad if it doesn’t explore it.
what you want is just a different story at that point. possibly one targeted at older audiences. or you’re just trying to be edgy. either way if you’re complaining about something like that then you need to understand that there are some stories that you’ll only be satisfied with if you rewrite the entire plot itself. at that point just reread/rewatch the thing you actually like instead of rewriting the whole book/show/movie to be a clone of it.

WHY does no one think camila would be super active in her kids' lives!!!!! that she would just immediately dip from the demon realm and not go back unless necessary!!!!! she's not gonna pull a greg universe and step away from one of the most important parts of her kids' lives just because she's uncomfortable with magic!!!! shes a Noceda!!!!!
she would become good friends with all the adults in luz & vee & hunter's lives. she visits the boiling isles several times a week and hosts big family dinners at her house where she invites all of her kids' friends and parents and teachers. her home is always open to any of her kids' friends or parents, whether they need a shoulder or a friend or a break or a hot meal or even just homework help. she babysits king whenever she can find the time to and he starts calling her "mamila" and no, it doesnt make her choke up every time.
she makes a penstagram account with a cosmic frontier reference for her username to keep in close contact with her new friends and she actually knows how to use it better than hunter does. she's the first person alador goes to when he needs advice about being a parent. she has a permanent offer to stay at the owl house or at alador's home whenever she needs. she meets with gilbert, harvey, perry, steve, and raine for brunch every sunday morning.
she and principal bump meet and he is absolutely honored to meet her and he gives her the opportunity to give extracurricular after school lessons at hexside about the human version of beast-healing. she does a single lesson once a month, but does open up the chance for one or two older kids at a time to shadow her at her vet clinic for a day as a little field trip (viney always gets herself at the top of the list and becomes well known around the clinic) and she is lovingly teased by her co-workers for always picking up "strays".
she is one of the people on scene during the gathering of the guards who had all been murdered by their own creator and left to rot in the dark for decades. she doesn't have the strength in her to be one of the ones collecting the remains of all these men and boys who once had her son's face, but she stands by hunter's side and keeps him from falling to pieces and they help make sure all the golden guards all finally given a chance for peaceful rest.
she helps gus with preparing the curriculum for his classes on the human realm in eda's new school. she is there at all of the emerald entrails' flyer derby matches and wears green face paint to every single one and cheers the loudest. she's the one who takes amity to her meeting with the dean of the university of abominations when alador gets fireflu and is stuck in bed. she is the one who figures out hunter's never had a proper birthday party and quickly remedies that.
she meets the elder clawthornes and absorbs every piece of wisdom they give her as if they were her own grandparents. she learns palisman care from dell clawthorne so she can better take care of stringbean whenever luz leaves her palisman with her mom. she gets roped into learning how to carve wood by hunter during the start of his apprenticeship under dell & the bat queen.
her name ends up in the history books of the boiling isles, and not just for being known as the mother of luz the human. she becomes known for being the reason of the sudden boom in witches who focus in beast-healing and the reinvention of the entire industry on the boiling isles. she is known as one of the first people to rediscover and establish contact and fight for the protection of all the basilisks scattered across the boiling isles, who were previously thought to be extinct.
she would NOT just stand by and watch her children come and go between realms with her house serving as the port but not the embassy. she was once that very child, caught between what felt like different worlds, feeling as if she might be forced to choose one or the other because her parents were too uncomfortable with what felt like half of her soul. she would refuse to let luz, vee, or hunter feel as if they have to angle those halves away from her so they dont have to watch her wince at them.
camila noceda would make an effort to make the demon realm a part of herself, too, so that no matter where her kids settled themselves down in the future, they would still always feel at home with her.

I love that Camila is legitimately such a good mother. It would've been so easy to write her off as some neglectful and abusive mother who is ableist and wants to erase all of Luz's neurodivergent traits and quirks by sending her to an evil camp (takes I've actually read). But no. Camilla loves her daughter so, so much.
She accepts Luz's quirks, understands what she's going through, supports her and is clearly fond of Luz's overactive imagination and interests, like her saving the foil cranes Luz made her even after Luz (or at least Vee disguised as Luz) threw them away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another sweet thing is how fast she accepts Vee. Even after Vee impersonated her daughter for months, Camilla still sympathised with her and welcomed her with open arms, even trusting her with everything after she has to leave for the Demon Realm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even when the world is trying to inhibit Luz's neurodivergence, Camila still defends her daughter. She is completely ready to fight people who make fun of her daughter and clearly tries to support her through everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally the only reason that Camila was even going to send Luz to camp was because she legitimately thought it would help her daughter make friends and fit in. She obviously got bullied and felt isolated as a kid and doesn't want her daughter to go through what she did.
Tumblr media
She IMMEDIATELY bought books on parenting LGBTQ to understand her daughter better and most likely read books on Luz's ADHD as well after she got diagnosed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is fully ready to go to the DEMON REALM, which she's probably been told all the horrifying details about and just seen their creepy, cryptid looking emperor go to, just to protect her children and keep them safe.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, Camilla is best mom.

Round 2, Match 58: Eda Clawthorne vs. Gavroche
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitted kids:
Eda Clawthorne: Luz Noceda, King Clawthorne, Hunter, Edric Blight, and debatably, Amity Blight, Willow Park, and Gus Porter
Gavroche: Gavroche's unnamed brothers, but Gavroche was abandoned when very young and he doesn't know they're related to him
Propaganda under the cut!
Eda Clawthorne:
1. “First of all, Eda wasn't granted a lot of good things: She was cursed (by someone she loved) with an ever worsening illness, she was outcasted and prosecuted from society for not blindly following the rules and conforming. Lots of baggage and trauma. Still when Luz stumbled into human world, she took her in. She taught her magic and how to navigate this world.
She gave her advice and hugged her and reprimanded her. She wasn't an adoptive mom from the start, she grew into the role. She made mistakes, but she was willing to listen to Luz and overthink her behavior. Think of the beginning, when Luz wanted to go to school and Eda didn't want her. In the end she let her go and gave her her full support. She genuinely cared for her even when she was new in her life, and rescued her out of a lot of sticky situations, never left her behind, always ready to risk her life for those she loved.
Also King- She adopted him out of a cave and cared for him like a child even before Luz came. And the cared A LOT. For example, when his crown was took from him, she went on a dangerous mission (plus luz she just met and ""used"" for that) to retrieve it. Turns out, it was a ""burger king"" crown, but she did all that because see knew that was important to him. And even though she fears loosing him so much, she still helps him in his search for his real sad.
In conclusion: Outcast who still uses all her resources to give their kids a happy life, an education and a future. She fully supports them (but like a mother also draws a line here and there). She visits school meetings and does paperwork for Luz, she reads stories for them to fall asleep, she goes to Luz' prom, she hides her pain to be strong for them.”
2. “Eda Clawthorne always said she was a terrible influence and took the word “maternal” as an insult. She then proceeded to accidently adopt a sentient demon beast thing, raise him, adopt some human that tripped into her dimension, mentor her, all while being on the run from the tyrannical government. She canonically adopts King in the second season and King and Luz call each other siblings. She also calls them “her kids.” Eda attempts to sacrifice herself for them at many times and tries her best to keep them safe, and is really sad about the fact that they’ll one day leave her to go back to their own families. She puts away her own biases against the school system so that Luz can lead magic. The maternal instincts basically kick her out of nowhere and she goes from a badass, absolute menace to society to badass, absolute menace to society who happens to have two chaos gremlins.”
3. “Her being an adoptive parent wasn't even on her plan, she just likes to defy the government. Oops, now we're a family. Fuck you Emperor Belos!”
4. “This champion of a woman, this legend of a lady, continuously and effortlessly picks up children to care for as if her own. Before the events of the main storyline, she has already adopted the *King of Demons* himself. She takes Luz under her wing (ha), much like she takes in numerous other children with the intent of letting them prosper and grow away from responsibilities and duties placed on them by their previous parental figures. She is thirty and flirty and DANG she is a good mother. She casually picks up three more children whilst aiding in a rebellion with the (NON-BINARY) love of her life. Upon meeting the wonderful biological mother of Luz (Camila Noceda), you can see her VISIBLY SWEATING with the insurmountable pressure she feels to make a good first impression after a whopping three seasons of having raised Camila's kid herself. She cares very deeply for these kids and the people they love, and thus I argue she is one of the best serial adopters in history, if not THE best ever. boom mic drop the crowd goes wild”
(Mod note: Full propaganda list coming soon!)
Gavroche:
“Gavroche's a child himself but cares about the other two like a parent is supposed to : "I'm off to the elephant with my kids. On the supposition that you should need me some night, you'll find me there. I live on the second floor. There is no doorman. You should ask for Monsieur Gavroche." (The elephant is a hollow sculpture where they sleep)”

I found myself writing on this instead of answering the asks in my inbox. This is just a first draft, but I dunno, I think it might be okay. I haven't read through it yet though, this is fresh stuff. What do you guys think, is this something?

Untitled TOH fic-vee tells the gang
[TITLE]
Vee watched Luz and Camila disappearing into the light of the portal, of to save the Demon Realm from whatever evils Belos was bound to bring upon that world with his return. The portal closed shortly after they crossed the threshold.
Vee could feel the scent of the spent magic lingering in the air. It was potent and powerful, but not unpleasant. The Titan’s own magic, such a primal, primordial force of nature that Vee doubted she’d be able to feed on it if she tried. It’d be like a human trying to eat and digest grass, if grass could also spontaneously explode. A bad idea.
The demon turned around to begin her walk back to civilization. A small smile played on her lips. Despite the difficulties they were bound to face in that realm, a realm Vee herself was not prepared to return to just yet, she couldn’t help but feel optimistic. If any two people could handle Belos and The collector, it’d be the Luz and Camila, the two coolest people Vee  knew.
Well… they were at the very least in the top three of the list Vee kept of cool people she knew (admittedly, a pretty short one). One person in particular was very high up on that list. A stranger she knew very well, a raven-haired goddess, a clueless fortune teller.
Vee felt her cheeks heat up, and she quickly shook her head to try and clear it. She could think about those feelings some other time. For now, she had to focus on getting mom’s car back ho-
Her eyes widened and she shoved her hands into her pocket. She had her phone and… that was it.
”Shoot!” she yelled at the sky. The moon looked down on her, it’s cold light coloring every shadow blue. ”Camila still has the car keys!”
Well. That was her good mood ruined. Grumbling curses under her breath, Vee made it back to the town square where the festivities were winding down. She threw the car a dirty look, like it was its fault that Camila had brought the keys with her like some kind of responsible adult. Now she’d have to walk all the way back home, get the spare, walk back here and drive the car home. Or maybe that could wait until tomorrow?
Whatever. She had a lot of time to think about what she’d do next.
She walked along the streets of Gravesfield. By now, most trick-or-treaters had trick.or-retreated back home with their bounty. A few jack ’o lanterns still spread some light onto the streets, alongside the streetlamps and other decorations. The buzz of the last few organizers cleaning up after the festivities at the town square disappeared fast behind buildings as Vee navigated around them.
Her nose was a good deal sharper than her ears though and if she took a few deep breaths she could still feel a few faint scents coming from there. She took some joy in doing that, trying to disentangle the smells in her mind, try to keep them alive for as long as possible.
In a somewhat ironic twist, because she was so focused on trying to discern those quickly fading smells, she missed the one in front of her. Once she did notice it, she stopped dead in her tracks.
”It’s you!” yelled a familiar voice.
It was Jacob Hopkins, the man from the Gravesfield Historical Society, standing there, only a few meters ahead of her. Before Vee had time to get out of her daze, he marched up to her.
”It really is you!” he said again. ”I’d recognize those evil eyes anywhere! You’re my demon!” He grabbed her wrist.
”I-I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she said and struggled to free her hand. She saw his eyes go wide and realized her mistake. ”Let go of me!” she said, this time imitating Willow’s voice, but it was too late.
”Don’t bother trying to distort your voice, demon, I see right through your tricks,” Jacob spat. ”Where’s the poor woman you enchanted as your thrall? Did you eat her, you vile creature!?”
”No!” Vee cried. She felt hot tears threatening to flood her eyes. Her heart beat fast and heavy and her breathing was ragged. ”Let go of me!” she hissed at him, this time with a much more animalistic sound. In her mouth, sharp fangs replaced dull incisors and puny canines. On her hands, soft human nails extended into sharp claws.
”Hey!” a third voice joined the growing chaos, causing both basilisk and man to turn their heads. Despite the situation she found herself in, Vee couldn’t help but find herself feeling a little relieved. It was the rest of the Cabin 7 Crew fast approaching.
Marco, dressed as a mummy, but with his distinctive bang still covering his eyes. It was a wonder he could see anything.
Samuel, dressed as a Frankensteiner, albeit a Frankensteiner with red hair and glasses.
And finally Masha, dressed as a witch, spearheading the trio, just as they did at summer camp as well. Always the first one to get them into trouble, and this time, the first one to arrive to help Vee out of trouble.
”What’s going on here?” they said. ”Let go of her, you pervert!”
”Wha-no!” Jacob exclaimed. He might’ve been some flavor of crazy, but even he realized how bad this must look to an outsider. ”You’ve got it around your back foot! It’s not what it looks like!”
”Really? Because what it looks like to me is that you’re trying to drag this poor girl off to do Goddess knows what!” Masha yelled back. Marco and Sam stood by their sides, ready to back them up should things get ugly (well, uglier). ”Let her go right now and we might not call the police.”
”I-it’s not like that at all!” Jacob said quickly, very keen not to get the police involved. He looked around, as if the fuzz were hiding behind the corners, ready to jump him. ”Listen, um… Sasha…? No, no, was it… Vasha? Whatever, it doesn’t matter.” He pulled on Vee’s wrist, making her stumble forward.
”This is no mere girl!” he exclaimed. ”This is a demon! She has come from another world and has been living among us humans for months! And now her allies, the witches have come too! They’re not here right now, they probably went back to their own world, but who knows when they’ll be back! You must help me contain this creature so we can warn the president! I’ll even let you collab with me on mewtube, once my account is restored!”
At some point, Vee realized that the best way to get out of this situation was to let Jacob keep talking. She retracted her claws and dulled her teeth.
Masha, Samuel, an Marco shared a few glances with each other. Vee knew them well enough to follow along.
”This guy is a loon,” said Marco’s gaze.
”I know you said he was a nutcase, but I didn’t realize it was this bad,” Samuel’s look said.
”Yeah, I knew it was bad, but not this bad,” Masha said with one stare.
Samuel stepped forward.
”You’re crazy,” he said simply. The he punched Jacob in the stomach. Hard.
Jacob made a funny sound as all the air in his lungs was forcibly evicted from his lungs. He fell to the ground, holding his tummy, letting go of Vee in the process.
”Come on, let’s get away from this creep,” Masha said, taking Vee’s hand. They gently coaxed Vee into following them, not that Vee needed a whole lot of convincing. They led her away from the gasping and writhing Javob while Marco and Samuel stayed behind for a while to make sure he didn’t try to follow.
”Hey, I don’t think I got your name before?” Masha said, in an obvious attempt to try and distract Vee from what had just happened. ”We met at the GHs yesterday, remember? I offered you a tour.”
”Y-yeah, I remember,” Vee said. Her heart was still beating fast, but sh was starting to get her breathing under control. Her fighting instincts had kept her hands steady, but now that the immediate threat of violence was gone, they started shaking a little. ”I’m Vee. And,uh… as much as I would like that tour, I think I just wanna go back home right now,” she said, an attempt at levity.
Masha nodded.
”I saw your friends at the Haunted Hayride, but I didn’t see you.”
”I was back at home with mom,” Vee said, so focused on trying to calm herself down that she let her mouth go on autopilot. It took her a moment to realize the slip-up. ”Or, uh, I mean.. aw geez, I misspoke, I didn’t mean to say-”
”Hey, hey, calm down, Masha interrupted the panicking basilisk. They led Vee to a car and opened the door to the front passenger seat. They made Vee sit down. ”Just take it easy. That creep didn’t hit you, did he?”
Vee shook her head. She massaged her wrist. She could feel where he had squeezed her, although the thing was was more annoying to Vee was that she could still feel the scent of him on her hand. Seeing as she had spent the first decade and a half of her life in chains, a little pain in the wrists she could handle. But she hated the smell of him and if she ever had to feel his stink on her again, it’d be too soon.
”No, I’m fine,” she said finally.
”You sure?” Masha said, somewhat skeptical.
”Yeah, I’m sure, I promise” Vee said. ”I was just a bit shocked. I mean, this was a lot, even for him.”
”Yeah…” Mashas aid, their thoughts trailing off. ”I mean, I knew the guy was unbalanced, but not that he was this unhinged…”
Marco and Samuel came walking back to the car.
”What a wimp,” Marco said succinctly. ”I think he’s still lying there.”
”Serves him right,” Samuel spat. ”He should be lucky to get off so lightly.”
”I tied his shoestrings together for good measure,” Marco said and hopped into the backseat of the car.
”And I threw his wallet and keys onto the nearest roof,” Samuel continued, following his friend. ”So that should keep him occupied for a while.” His face got a few degrees more serious. ”Should we call the police?”
”N-no,” Vee said quickly. ”I don’t think it’s necessary.”
At the time she didn’t know it, but she was right. In trying to get his wallet and keys back, Jacob would wake and nearly scare the life out of the poor souls living in the house. He ended up getting arrested for trespassing. It remains to see if he learned his lesson from that.
”Alright, if you say so,” Masha said. ”At the very least let me drive you home. Or do you have a ride?”
”I’d like that,” Vee said. ”I, ah… missed the ride home.”
The ride home was spent mostly in silence, broken mostly by Vee giving Masha instructions on where to turn. Marco and Samuel introduced themselves, unaware that Vee already knew them very well.
Vee had some time to think during the car ride. When Luz returned from the Demon Realm and reclaimed her life, Vee had stopped hanging out with her old cabin mates. With all the new friends in the house, Vee hadn’t realized just how much she missed them. Now that longing feeling was very palpable within her. she wanted to start hanging out with them again. But she couldn’t… or… maybe she could…
”There you go,” Masha said as they pulled into the driveway.
”Wait…” Marco said slowly and scratched his head. ”Isn’t this where Luz lives.
”Yeah, I live here too,” Vee said. I’m, uh… well, you see… it’s complicated, but, ah… Camila lets me live here.”
She saw Masha looking at her, clearly remembering the comment Vee had made before about her mom. They didn’t say anything.
Vee took a deep breath, gathering up all the courage she had. ”Grow a spine,” was the human saying. Vee was snake, she had plenty of spine.
”Why don’t you guys come inside?” she said quickly, not giving herself enough time to chicken out. She was going to commit to this now. ”I… would like to thank you all properly for helping me out!”
The three of them all checked their phones.
”It’s getting pretty late and we were supposed to sleep over at my parent’s place,” Masha said, hesitating. ”But I’m sure they’d let us sleep at Mrs. Noceda’s house, right?”
”It should be fine,” Samuel said, already typing a text for his parents.
”I don’t care,” Marco said and shrugged.
”Sounds like its decided!” Vee said, a little too chipper.  ”Come on!”
She lead them inside the mostly dark house.
She gestured towards the sofa.
”Sit down, sit down, I’ll go get snacks,” she said and hurried out into the kitchen. Her friends were left in the dust, looking around the cluttered living room. It looked like whirlwind had rampage through the room, throwing pieces of costumes all around. If the room hadn’t been so dark, they might’ve noticed some of the pictures on the walls showing off some things they were not supposed to know yet.
In the kitchen, Vee breathed heavily.
”Come on, you can do this,” she mumbled to herself while she fixed the snacks. ”You escaped the Emperor’s dungeons and evaded his scouts. You can tell your best friends a secret. It’s not that hard. They’ll still like you… yeah! Us weirdos stick together, that’s the Cabin 7 way!”
”Hey, Vee?” Masha’s voice interrupted the basilisk’s pep talk and nearly made her shed her skin at record speeds.
”Y-yes!” Vee almost yelled, and spun around in place.
”Is Luz home?” Masha asked. ”Cause we haven’t talked to her in ages…”
Masha’s usually confident eyes flickered won for a few seconds. You wouldn’t think a lack of something can feel like a stab, but it did to Vee. That sealed it in her mind. she was going to do this.
”Yes… or no. No, Luz is not home right now,” Vee said. She grabbed the snacks and led Masha back out to the living room. ”She and Camila are away, it… was avery sudden thing.”
”…okay?” Masha said, confusion on their face. Again, they shared a look with Marco and Samuel, both of them equally as confused by Vee’s cryptic words.
”I’ll explain, I swear,” Vee assured them, not that it did much to help ease their worried minds. ”but it’s a long story, so you might wanna sit down. She gestured towards the sofa again. Her Cabin 7 mates sat down, only hesitating a bit. Vee dumped the snacks on the coffee table and grabbed a chair for herself.
Vee felt around inside her second stomach. She had absorbed a fair bit of magic from Belos during the fight before. Amity and Willow had left plenty of abomination slime and enchanted plants behind. there should be a bunch of residual magic energy for her to scarf down. She could afford to show off a bit.
”Have you guys noticed something… off with Luz lately?” she asked. ”In the last tow months or so… almost like she became a different person over night.”
The three friends thought amongst themselves. Not that they needed to give it a whole lot of thought, because they had already talked about it with each other, more than once. Not only had Luz more or less ghosted them and started hanging out with a bunch of strangers from out of town (one of whom might be her girlfriend), her personality had completely shifted. The nervous but curious and kindhearted Luz they knew from camp was gone. Almost as if… almost as if she became a different person overnight.
Vee could see on their expressions that this was the general lines of thinking in the group.
”What I’m about to say next might sound insane, but I can guarantee you, it is the truth. All I’m asking is that you listen to me and… maybe don’t be too angry with me… okay?”
More glances where exchanged.
”Vee… what’s going on?” Samuel asked finally. ”Is…something wrong with Luz? What happened to her? And what does it have to do with you”?
Vee took a few quick, sharp breaths. She was about to go against every instinct in her basilisk brain, instincts ingrained into her very core by countless of generations before her. Here goes.
”The Luz you met at camp wasn't the real one,” she said, forcing herself not to talk to fast. She enunciated each word, making sure there wasnät any room for misinterpretation. ”It was me. I was disguised as her and took her place. It was an accident, I didn’t mean to, but… well, I think it worked out for the better for the both of us.”
”I… don’t get it.” Marco was the first one to speak. ”What do you mean you took Luz’ place?”
”I know it’s probably a bit hard to believe, I mean, me and Luz donät look or sound a lot alike,” Vee said. A small smile played on her lips. ”But how about now?” she said, speaking with the voice of Luz.
The Cabin 7 Crew sat still as rocks while their tired brains tried to process what was going on.
Vee giggled.
”S-sorry, but you look so funny,” she said, sounding exactly like Luz from camp. She stood up from her chair and spun around in place, transforming into a splitting image of Luz from camp. No, not a splitting image. The original image, because that was Luz from camp. ”How about now? Do you believe me now?”
Masha gripped the armrest of the sofa so hard their nails threatened to rip the fabric.
”Explain, they demanded. ”Right now.”
”Sure thing, though it’s a long story, which is why I brought snacks,” Vee said, this time with her regular voice. Titan, that must be so bizarre to the poor humans. ”There is a world beyond this one. A world of magic, and witches, and demons. Demons like me. I’m a basilisk.”
Masha raised their hand.
”No, you won’t die if you look at my true form,” Vee said.
Masha lowered their hand.
”That rumor started by witches because… well, you see, we basilisks eat magic, that’s how I can transform.” Vee paused and thought for a second. Her captive audience waited with bated breaths and eyes as big as dinner plates. ”You know what, this is probably not the right order to take things. Let’s start on that fateful day when Luz, the real Luz was waiting for the bus to take her to summer camp. As she stood waiting, she spotted a strange owl which she followed into an abandoned house in the woods…”

amity confront odalia
(they arrive in demon realm and bump into a familiar face.)
MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING, MENTIONS OF EATING DISORDER.
"Amity is that you?, oh, are you alright, you're looking rather....you know."
"Mother? how did you know we were here? and why are you here?"
"I work for the Collector now, I could take you back and reform you to Little Miss Perfect again!"
O dalila tried to caress the shocked daughters faced, but Amity pushed her hand away.
"No, mom, you are not actually doing this right now." "You leave me and the family and now your back and you're expecting for it to all be okay?"
Everyone else looked at them, shocked, confused, but Camila was asking Luz who that lady was and why Amity looked so startled. She didn't know about how Odalia had treated her daughters girlfriend.
"Well, Amity that's not any way to talk to your mother, is it?."
"I don't have a mom. You're not my mom. You never were."
"Excuse me? I brought you into this world and now you're disrespecting me like this?!"
Odalia then had slapped Amity across the face. Amity didn't look fazed, she looked like this feeling was rather familiar.
"Im not lying, you never treated me like your daughter, You werent the one who took me to school in the morning and told me "I love you" or things like that."
"Oh is that what this is about?. you're mad Mommy never told you I love you?"
"YES, THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, I WALKED INTO SCHOOL AND SAW ALL THE OTHER MOMS WITH THEIR KIDS AND THOUGHT" "why don't i have that mom? why do they get to have that mom?"
"Amity you're being rather dramatic."
Everyone else had just been standing there, shocked, not one of them would DARE step in. Amity needed to get this out.
"maybe i am but i dont CARE anymore, you treated me like crap and you know that."
"I did what was GOOD for you, you'll thank me one day."
"doing what was good for me was putting your business over everything and sending me to bed with no access to the real world and no food or water because i made something under 90?" Yeah thanks mom for the ed."
"Oh stop, you probably haven't even been diagnosed." Its all in your head"
"YES I HAVE. YOU WOULD KNOW THAT IF YOU PAYED ATTENTION TO ME."
"Oh really, with who?"
"The twins. you know what's embarrassing? having your sister be the only mother figure you have? I called Em MOM twice last year, thats embarrasing . Now if you would move along that would be really great.
"Fine, dont come running along for help."
"I never have."
Amity and the crew then dashed past her and Amity stayed quiet for a while, Willow and Luz tried to get her to open up but she wouldn't budge, she would need time.
"Ams you sure you okay? Luz asked.
"Yeah im fine, felt a bit good to let it out."
"Does your cheek hurt?"
"a bit but its fine."
"Ams, you're not fine, you can talk to me."
"I just, it's been hard having to deal with the ed and seeing my mom again, i felt powerless i didnt know she was going to be there. i feel so embarrassed having you guys see me and my mom go at it. "
"It wasn't your fault, we didn't know she was going to be there"
"i know, thank you by the way."
"You're welcome, it's my sworn duty as your girlfriend"
"okay dork" Amity said blushing a bit.
They then continued to walk.
a/n: your welcome guys, amity got all her angst out, i reared up making this 😪. I love you guys sm 🫶🏽

Stepping aside from the pain and angst for a moment, I am glad the hexsquad gets to be in the human realm.
Gus gets to explore and admire his passion!
Willow will love the rich flora and getting to know Luz’s home!
Hunter gets to learn more about his human side and be away from the constant trauma of the BI!
Amity gets to see Luz’s world, and see how a good mom can be (and probably be loved on by her gf’s accepting adoring mother)!
Vee is going to meet BI residents who don’t want to hunt her or use her (and no, I’m not worried about Vee eating their magic…that’s not who Vee is or what Luz would let her friends fear.)
And Luz gets real human food, real hugs from Camila, a real BED…
but of course this is all while they deal with survivor’s guilt, determination to find a way home, Luz’s promise, (likely going to be unspoken to her mom because she bottles up negative feelings) and knowing while Luz and Vee’s Earth home is safe, nobody’s Demon Realm home is…
i guess theres still some pain and angst there, huh. i just hope they get to find some joy, too.

FULL REVIEW: Thanks to Them
I HAVE ALL OF THE THOUGHTS!
Hot damn, I don't know whether to go by topic or by chronological order.
Gonna go by topic. I don't think I have enough screencaps to go by chronological order
Tumblr media
Luz: As someone else pointed out on tumblr, Luz's depression is very real. The guilt of helping Belos find The Collector and leaving Eda and King behind is still weighing on her. Granted, I do believe that she is enjoying her time with her friends and the actual date she probably had with Amity (off screen because FUCK YOU DISNEY. I'LL **** YOU. WU-TANG!), but every moment that she's alone with her thoughts is just thoughts of how she messed up. When Luz did her video diary entry I was starting to get upset because I knew that whatever Luz decided I wasn't gonna like. She has a bad habit of putting all the weight on her shoulders. I really hope she grows out of it because she's done it several times before in the show and I didn't like it then either. Luckily there was...
Camila: Probably my second favorite character in this episode. Man, she was great. Yes, it was cool to see Eda go from the lady who makes Luz run her errands to being the momma of Luz and King. But Camila had "world's best mom" before the episode started.
Tumblr media
Like she started taking care of those kids, immediately. She did her research, bought books, asked questions. God bless Camila. And she also probably saved the episode for me because when Luz was gonna make her big terrible announcement that I knew I was gonna like, Camila made an interference play.
Tumblr media
Interception! Gonna be honest, I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. Camila going to the demon realm was not in my Thanks to Them Bingo card. This is why I don't make theories or predictions because I can't predict shit.
Camila was my second favorite character in this episode. My favorite character ended up being
Tumblr media
Hunter: I've said this about other characters but not Hunter, but I guess I'll say it now.
"You're my boy, Hunter. YOU'RE MY BOY!"
Seriously, as someone who donates $20 a month to the Wolf Conservation Center, it was so cool to see a character who loves wolves as much as I do. But that wasn't the only thing. It was fun to see Hunter get into things and have fun. He's gotten better at sewing. He's engaging with his friends more. And turning into a sci-fi nerd was the beautiful icing on the big dumb cake. Even my brother, who didn't like Hunter, ended up liking Hunter after this episode. And then we got my favorite line in the episode.
Tumblr media
That's just great. Something I wish I would have learned at his age.
Gus: I don't have much to say about Gus except that he was very funny in this episode. If anyone asks why I didn't like the friendship between Tom and Marco in Star vs the Forces of Evil, I'm gonna tell them it's because Gus and Hunter did it better. He was the second funniest character in this episode. The funniest character in my opinion was
Tumblr media
Willow: Someone was having a good time. See her poking people with that trident and her muahaha and her not liking Hocus Pocus and she was was just awesome in this episode. It also looks like things are inching closer towards huntlow (or as the Owl crew jokes "Winter is coming"). She makes him blush a lot and I'm just remembering how she held him when Camila fished him out of the water and her "be careful with him." I didn't I'd like this ship when it started but I'm all for it now.
and I didn't forget
Tumblr media
Amity: ^This here^ was the moment when I paused (I was watching on YouTube TV) and said "Look at this. Look how good this is. Who could ever see this and think that it's bad or wrong?" She loves her so much. Amity was great in this episode and her line "I was a top student once" reminded me of the time during grom when she bumped into Luz and snapped "Watch it, nitwit" before realizing it was her. Amity loves Luz but I think there still might be some bully still in there. Not that I mind. Amity is still Amity. And of course the ambitious Amity would be the one to suggest exploring the human realm. And I'm loving the hair getting longer.
Vee: Sweet Vee. I'm not the biggest fan of her new form. Honestly I kinda wanted it to be Luz with freckles but I'll get used to it.
Flapjack: Is Flapjack Evalyn or just the last bit of Evalyn left in the world? I guess we'll find out. Good night, sweet prince. Honestly I was so scared that Belos was going to absorb him the way he does other palismans. Remember when he was trembling behind that tombstone? Have you ever seen an animal be legit scared? It's like that and it's heartbreaking.
Belos: Belos was terrifying in this episode. I'm glad we got official backstory after putting the pieces together during Hollow Mind, but I still want a full flashback. I don't know if we have time for it (because of Disney. How dare you? Wu-Tang!). Maybe it's just me being selfish.
Even though I said I don't make theories, seeing the titan's blood with an owl cork did get me thinking. My theory is that Caleb didn't move to The Boiling Isles full time right away. My guess is that he and Evalyn were seeing each other, hopping back and forth between realms, before Caleb decided to settle down there. So I guess either Evalyn or Caleb left a stash of titan's blood for whenever one of them needed it.
And I do agree with everyone else that I do think Evalyn was a Clawthorne. I guess that makes Hunter a Clawthorne too in a weird way.
Misc Thoughts:
Tumblr media
The Noceda set up is the same as mine! A Switch and a PS4. You think that's a PS5? Hell no. Who buys a game console for $600? You must be out of your damn mind.
Tumblr media
Screw you, you old bitch. Luz is too good for your shit art class anyway. I bet the beastkeeping kids over at Hexside would have loved Luz's griffin taxidermy.
I don't know who those guys were that gave Luz the Haunted Hayride flyer, but I immediately didn't like them. They just gave off a bad vibe to me. I'm guessing they were supposed to be human supporting characters for season 3, but for the first time I'm glad time was cut. No thank you.
Scrapbook of Cut Episodes!
Kinda cruel to make Luz go to (human) school, but I get it.
I wish we could have had more fun, but I'm glad they crammed as much fun as they could.
The Cosmic Frontier stuff was hilarious. I thought it was Manny's (Luz's dad) thing but then I saw Camila freak out and then I was like "OMG *gasp* YOU were the nerd!"
Now we're going back to the demon realm and...I have no idea what's gonna happen next. I can't even guess. We don't know anything about The Collector so who knows what they've done to The Boiling Isles. I'm just as scared as you are.
So...yeah.

Physco analyzing owl house characters part 2: Luz
(Spoiler warning for s3 ep 1! And tw again for mental illness, death, trauma, etc)
This time I'm gonna talk about Luz- a protagonist who canonically has ADHD. She's seen throughout the show being impulsive, indecisive, and hyperactive with a tendency to hyperfixate on certain interests such as glyph magic and the good witch azura. Time and time again, this gets her into trouble with peers, teachers, and friends as she's ostracized for being different without knowing why. She's seen as being absent minded, disruptive, and lazy when in reality, she's just trying to navigate a world that wasn't made for her.
Things like social isolation, academic struggles, and bullying are all things that can often be traumatic on their own but it seems Luz handled these things very well with the support of her mom for most of her life.
Her dad's death was not only extremely difficult for her because she lost a loved one but also because people started misunderstanding her even more, seeing her normal differences from her peers as a reaction to her loss. Suddenly her behaviors were seen not as quirks or differences but as attention seeking and acting out.
A common trait of adhd is rejection sensitive dysphoria- when rejection is either perceived when it's not really there or perceived as being much more intense than it really was meant to be. I feel like Luz experienced this when her mom suggested she go to a summer camp to "help" her, feeling she was losing that support from her mom, even if in Camila's eyes, it really was meant to help her.
She didn't want to be fixed, she wanted to be understood and so she ran away. I think being in the demon realm was so appealing to her because everyone acknowledged that she was LITERALLY in a world not made for her which made her feel more understood and accepted, even though she still faced a lot of the same obstacles as in the human realm.
It seemed like a lot of her trauma started to really affect her once she realized she really couldn't get back home. She's seen after that point being more avoidant and even secretive with people she cares about as she continues to internalize her mistakes as character flaws, which only intensifies as the show goes on.
In thanks to them, she very obviously displays symptoms of depression with changes in her mood and sleep and the episode even suggests some suicidal ideation at points. People with adhd are 2.7 times more likely to have or develop depression than the rest of the population and very likely to have insomnia. Even by the end of thanks to them, Luz is still very obviously burdened and I can't wait to see how she goes forward throughout the show, hopefully gaining back some of her carefree spirit by the end and trusting her friends to accept her.

The Owl House Season Three Thoughts
Probably my dumping ground for season three talks. *shrugs*
You can read my general thoughts on the first two season here: https://neoyi.tumblr.com/post/698412600252366848/neoyi-neoyi-neoyi-neoyi-neoyi
Tumblr media
"Thanks to Them" spoilers.
It was abundantly clear by the latter half of season two that the creators had to introduce, establish, and progress major plots and character developments within the last ten or so episodes because of Disney's screw-up. It's a damn miracle it ran as efficiently as it did.
Apparently they had to alter the plot by that point, which does explain why it didn't feel overstuffed as I thought it would be. Sure, a couple of things feel clumsily inserted (the Collector's presence is an abrupt introduction than a gradual foreshadowing of What Was To Come), but for the most part, they altered its course pretty damn well.
Time will tell if Dana Terrance will be able to finish the show off given what little she was forced to work with (man, I do not blame her for feeling angry), but season three's opener "Thanks to Them" is a good indicator of what may be to come: simultaneously stuffing the episodes with as much content as they needed in the most economical way possible.
It's really, really, reaaaaaaaaaally evident in the beginning montage how many shit they had to squeeze in within just two minutes: Luz coming out to her mother, the kids trying to create a new portal door, the witch kids trying to blend into Earth and its customs, Hunter suffering PTSD and getting an Important Haircut to try and be his own person, the feckin' rain that the kids can experience without fearing for their lives? All of these are worth their own episodes. We'll never get time for Gus to truly take in the human world. That's several episode plots right there. We'll never see Hunter gradually getting possessed by Belos with cliffhangers and plot twists that would have left us aching to know what happens next. We'll never get Camila and Luz having heart-to-heart once the latter comes out. It's a really adorable montage of What Could Have Beens.
I want to believe Dana Terrance, knowing she owes Disney nothing now that her show is cancelled, means she's going to be like, fuck everything, and come right out, ON-SCREEN, to say that Luz is bisexual as fuck. I mean, what's Disney gonna do? Cancel the show some more?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is so unapologetic, as it should be. (Also double props to Camila who wears a pride rainbow badge afterward. A++ mom.)
I love how far Vee has come that she's not only familiar with Earth custom and is able to guide the witch kids, but has developed a human identify of her own. She has to hide what she is to the public, but not who she is to people close to her.
Even their version of the Duolingo Owl is as persistently demonic as ours.
It's sweet to see the witch kids and Vee learning Spanish. Luz took the time to learn the Boiling Isle's culture, it would make sense they want to do the same with Luz's heritage.
Tumblr media
Man, these kids have some choice fashions.
I forgot Hunter was trying to sew the Golden Guard's crest episodes back until I did a rewatch and got to that episode. So what a nice callback here where he's using Camila sewing machine to make more patches! I cannot believe this fucking kid made his own version of the Three Wolves Howling At Moon shirt. Of course he thinks wolves are Cool and Mystical. What a goddamn dork.
THE GODDAMN GIRAFFES. Like did it show off its true face because it recognized the witch kids as from the Boiling Isles? Surely, many humans have taken pictures of this creature that if it had made the same horrifying face, someone would have noticed and said something by now. (Then again, that shitty conspiracy guy was correct in his suspicion, sooo...)
Tumblr media
Damn, these kids are fashionable as fuck.
Tumblr media
Gooooood, this is such a cute, heartwarming scene. Every time something bad happens to this kid, I want to wrap him up in a blanket and give him hot cocoa. And now, he finally has people who would and likely has done that for him (Camila would definitely give him a blanket and a nice meal.) This is probably the safest Hunter's been since he found out about Belos. And even before then, his entire life was built to be a soldier and personal assistant to a kingly figure. I don't know how Belos treated him, but I doubt it was the kind of warm and sincere comfort Luz, her friends, and her mother has been giving him since their time on Earth. I don't think Hunter has ever had to experience just lying in bed, reading nerdy books and relating to its characters, and sewing just because he wants to sew the things he likes and not for the role Belos gave him since birth. He's finally found an identity for himself, free of Belos. And it's because he IS Hunter, and not Phillip's brother-clone, that he's able to free himself from Belos' influence at the end. This kid went through the best character development in the entire damn show and he's a dumpster fire who deserves hugs and cookies.
Tumblr media
Ahh, I see Luz has good taste in indie games.
Tumblr media
Masha's non-binary colored nails are on point. Did they always have them in their first appearance or was this added for season three? Need to check sometime.
Tumblr media
Ahh, THIS explains why Flapjack was drawn to Hunter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this episode completely recontextualized the relationship between Luz and Camila and I was not prepared for it. I just thought Camila didn't get Luz, tried to figure out a solution, and handled it wrong. I was not expecting Camila to have also grown up as a nerd, outcast and bullied in her youth, with fears of her daughter going through the same. I wasn't even sure if Luz's father would have even played a part in their story or was just background, but he did and now we get why their relationship was slowly starting to falter because grief fucking sucks and it causes you to cope in different, and sometimes not often good ways. It's heartbreaking to see Camila, who so loved Luz's eccentricity, cave into the criticisms of judgmental adults. Given she's always stood up for Luz in the latter's youth, I think she collapsed and just gave up when her husband died. Meanwhile Luz had an outlet brought about by her favorite book series (now much more meaningful because it came from her father), but overcompensated and unintentionally caused problems in school and her social life. It explains a lot of the earlier hints in previous episodes where we see Camila still embracing and amused by Luz's creativity, but also contradicting it with concerns against it. Everything makes sense now and together, they can finally work to heal and grow.
I love how blatant the animation took a huge bump up for the Witch kids vs. Possessed Hunter fight. I'm especially impressed by Possessed Hunter's lip sync. The way his mouth moves is particularly nuanced compared to the usual way its animated. I honestly thought they got James Baxter to guest animate. It just feels like he'd be the guy who would do stuff like Willow grabbing one of Possessed Hunter's arms and twisting it around like that, but apparently someone else animated this? Whoever you are, I salute you.
Man, I thought Belos was paste by "King's Tide." Sure, there was that hint when one of his goop landed on Hunter's shoulder that brought him to Earth, but I was maybe expecting one of those Last Remnants Of Him With No Mind To Take Final Revenge kinda thing. In any case, it was important for him to come back so Hunter can finish his personal journey. He had to be the one to fight and tell Belos to fuck off and finalize himself as an individual person.
Okay, so I first thought it was cheap that Flapjack revived Hunter. You'll have to forgive me, I tend to be weary of Cheap Deaths and tend to approach them with great caution. Then I remembered that Belos regularly absorbed palismens in order to keep going. It's probably how he's lived for centuries. Pailsmen can do that. They can GIVE life to humans/witches. Hunter's situation is the complete opposite of how Belos handled it where Flapjack willingly gave his own life instead of having it taken away from him. Man, I was not prepared for them to kill off Flapjack! And like Hunter has his eyes. So is Flapjack a part of him now? Are all magic-users bonded to one palismen in their lives or can they get more? Is that it for Hunter? No more familiar for him? Why does palismen have the ability to give their lifespan? Is it just in their nature to help their creators? There's a million questions I have on palismen biology, but I digress. Somebody get Hunter hot cocoa and a blanket, damn it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amity is a patient girlfriend. I think Luz has lied or kept like three major secrets from her (and her friends) by now.
Awwww yeah, Camila is coming to the Boiling Isles. This is the absolute BEST solution to anything because she's gonna wreck shit up!
I like that the show validates Vee's decision to stay out of the battle. She's still working through her trauma and deserves a safe spot to cope and live.
I did kind wished they left out the car keys joke at the end. It's cute, but a mild mood killer.

It’s obviously in Luz’s good nature to automatically feel happy for Vee first and foremost, upon seeing her do well in a social situation that Luz would be terrified in… But at the same time, you can’t tell me it didn’t hurt a lot to see a literal demon excel better at human stuff in the human world than Luz, an actual native human herself; It must’ve been a little bit humiliating. Luz is glad on Vee’s behalf, but also takes this purely as a bad reflection on Luz’s part, and Luz’s part alone.
And it makes Luz wonder if she simply didn’t try hard enough back home, because if Vee can do it, why can’t she? And Luz just won’t register that Vee IS a different person with different needs because she places too much burden and expectation on herself to do well, to make up for the stress she causes others. When Luz tells Camila that her mother was never the problem, I wonder if Luz meant the issue was with the human world and/or herself.
Tumblr media
Getting rejected by the Palismen definitely added to Luz wondering if it’s really just a lack of conviction on her part that’s the problem here; If only she’d had more conviction, more determination and effort, in going to camp! She’s basically victim-blaming herself at this point. And not getting chosen by Palismen would additionally hurt because Luz LOVES found family, so seeing no Palisman choose to be with her sucks; Even Boscha got a Palisman!
Luz loves Camila but of course her mom loves her back, she’s her mom. Whereas it continuously amazes Luz to see her found family keep choosing her at all to begin with. Conversely, Luz didn’t get chosen by a Palisman, and has to just make one from scratch, and I can see her wondering if her palisman will only like her out of obligation, because she gave it life; And if the reverse applies between Luz and Camila’s relationship.
Tumblr media
Luz isn’t ALWAYS doubtful and insecure; A lot of her character IS bold and unapologetic for who she is. It’s just that after several years of loneliness, even that will begin to take its toll and make Luz doubt herself in the furthest recesses of her mind. Her natural self is unabashed, and it helps that the isles has been more receptive and positive to Luz than the human world… But when Luz is afraid of repeating the same mistakes and rejection in the Boiling Isles, she basically flashes back to her time in the human world, and then dread takes over as she doubts her ability to move on from the past, if she’s still the same, weird girl as always. Not only that, how can Luz fail at being Luz, while this stranger does a better job at being her?!
And Luz begins to ask herself, if maybe all these people back home really DID have a point; If there’s still a problem and the constant is Luz between both of these worlds, then maybe the issue really IS her. And something like that can’t help but make Luz question if she’s truly taken like a fish to water in the Boiling Isles either (especially with recent difficulties in mind), or if she really belongs nowhere… Or even if she belongs just as much in the isles as the human world, that leaving home wasn’t necessary and thus a mistake and that caused her mother unnecessary grief; Never mind that what’s done is done and Luz IS happy here, so this place is no mistake and still a home too.
Tumblr media
(But Luz wonders if she still can’t find a place to fit in, not even after exploring another dimension; So maybe Belos can create a new world where freaks like herself and Philip can belong. If she can create a place where everyone belongs, is that so bad? It’s like a bigger Owl House! Or maybe these weirdos should just resign themselves to that in-between realm, which is the only place that can make room for them; Philip might’ve been trapped/banished there after all, it’s only a fitting and deserved fate for existing like they have! Separated from everyone else, only able to watch and dream but never truly participate nor belong. It’s like a bigger Conformatorium!)

“Reaching Out” Thoughts (Spoilers)
Hey everyone,
So I’ve just given the latest episode a watch and before I get started with my thoughts I just want to touch upon a theory I wrote after watching “Elsewhere and Elsewhen”. In this episode, we find out it is extremely likely Philip Wittebane is Emperor Belos. The dude has a disdain for witches and comes from Connecticut around the time the Hartford Witch Trials were taking place. There is a high chance this dude is of some pretty strong puritanical beliefs given the period and place in which he was born and raised. My theory which I came up with, was that the Day of Unity was likely his plan to unite the Human Realm and the Demon Realm with the plan to rid the world of magic. While the witch hunting days of humanity seem to be behind us, I feel there is enough xenophobia and fear of the unknown for his plans to come to fruition if that is truly his plan. And why am I touching on this right now? Because The Warden said in this episode, that him and some of the others think the Day of Unity won’t be good for magic in general, not just wild magic. So I feel like this is some good evidence pointing towards Emperor Belos’ potential end goal of ridding the Demon Realm of magic.
Anyway, I think I’m probably gonna do a few posts on this episode over the coming days, as it feels like there is a lot of stuff to unpack and in this one post I’m probably only going to touch upon the highlights. But to get started, I like that this episode we find out about Luz and her family. We’ve known since “A Lying Witch and a Warden” that it is just Luz and Camila but we had no idea of why her Dad wasn’t in the picture. We now know it is cos her Dad passed away. Unless I missed it, it seems it still doesn’t say what caused him to pass but this is a big anniversary for Luz and she can’t spend it with the person she usually spends it with, her Mom. I’m gonna mull this over for a bit and properly compile my thoughts on it as I’m struggling on where to go with this right now. I mean while Luz is correct in saying it isn’t an excuse for her actions and particularly not the lying to Amity, I can understand why Luz struggled to open up to anyone about. But right now I just don’t fully know how to put my thoughts into words.
Getting onto the Blights, I found myself shocked by this episode in the end. Like I have been expecting a blow up between Amity and her parents and somehow I still think one is definitely gonna happen between her and Odalia. While Alador isn’t innocent in the pressure his children, particularly Amity have been put under it is made rather clear this episode that he is just going along with Odalia’s grand master plan. It hasn’t been very clear initially as while in Season 2, Odalia does seem to take the villainous lead, in “Understanding Willow” it was Alador who laid down the law on what is expected of a Blight. So it did make it kinda vague, like both of them could equally be to blame in this immense pressure, but it does now seem to be made clear Odalia is 100% the ring leader.
Alador seems to have just buried himself in his work and shut himself off from the needs of his children though, as in this episode Alador expresses that he thought it was always Amity’s dream to be in the Emperor’s Coven. I don’t know if this is just a lie he has told himself so much he has started to believe it or if he has genuinely been blinded by his work to believe it. Either way, when Amity highlighted it wasn’t her dream though, that it is Odalia’s dream he actually does seem to finally listen. He finally seems to show Amity the fatherly and parental love I think she has deserved from the beginning. He expresses how he loves her hair cos it is abomination coloured and that he will talk to Odalia.
The issue here though, is Odalia is a force of nature. I mean she has bowled over Alador a few times in the past so far and probably more times than we have seen on screen. But Alador has also shown himself to be capable of standing up to Odalia, he did succeed at doing it at the end of “Escaping Expulsion” and so I imagine he could do it again. Odalia seems to now be in a bubble of her own making because all her kids seem to have turned against her and now possibly her husband, this could be interesting.
For now this is all I have, I will have other thoughts as this episode feels very heavy but I need to mull them over a bit more.

Im sorry if I sound rude but like, I feel that people saying how "It's good that Camila feels bad now, after sending Luz to 'normal kid camp'" is kind of,, a dramatic way of seeing things?
Luz had the right to be upset, she didnt want to go to a boring camp when she knows she isnt great at socializing, and there was this cool fantasy world at her grasp, of course she would stay. It isnt her fault, she acted impulsively sure, but there was no way to predict things escalating like that so rapidly.
But like, while her fears are valid, at the end of the day, it was just a normal camp?? With actually good advice for her future! And luz needed to be more mature - she was becoming an actual danger at school, and that was very worrying. The fact that Camila only suggested a summer camp and didnt get any lawsuits was amazing!! (Props to the principal for that lol)
She wasnt trying to "make luz normal", she loves her creativity! She was trying to make a better life for her, make her happier and safer. People saying that she did "such an awful thing", but I think I would be a lot more mad than she is at Luz, like, super mad! So I think Camila handled things very, very well!
It would have been nice if she and Luz had talked things through a bit more. Im sure Luz would have made friends at camp! It was literally a bunch of weirdos all together, it would have been fun, but like I said, she was hurt and had every right to be, I actually dont think staying at the Boiling Isles was a smart decision on her part, but I mean, it worked out for her extremely well and I honestly would have done the same thing and feel bad later lol.
And talking to Luz would have made Camila understand her daughter a lot better and it would have improved their relationship, but well, things didnt go this way at the end of the day.
While I agree that Luz is much happier at the Boiling Isles, Camila's fears and wants of Luz staying with her are so very valid. She just discovered Luz chose to be at a very dangerous "demon realm" - who btw there's a demon realm actually - and if Luz really told everything to her, she is living with a ex-wanted criminal and was enemies with a powerful evil dictator, who she fought with. OF COURSE CAMILA WANTS LUZ TO STAY WITH HER!! And hearing that Luz prefered that over living with her mom, really hurt Camila (because Camila never saw nor talked with The owl house gang, she wouldnt have known they were good for her only based on Luz's words, it's just a lot). Camila only wants Luz to be safe with her, and while she should talk to Luz about this and see that Luz is happier living there and also safe, her feelings are valid, and seeing people thinking they arent or ignoring it are very dumb.
Im sorry it's just, I dont see a lot of people defending camila's feelings and are focusing more on Luz (I mean, fair, there is a lot to unpack there. Poor Luz is not having a good time rn I'm very worried), So I wanted to do this, yeah.

Nevermind, the kids are happy, so I’m happy!
But jeez Luise Gus, you’re not even trying to be subtle about it anymore, huh?
You just know that if Gus wasn’t trying to out/support Hunter, he’d insist on going dressed as a normal human. And when people would ask him about his costume, he’d be like: ”I’m dressed as a completely regular, ordinary, normal human!” and they’d be like ”Whoa dude, that is scary.”
Tumblr media
”Funny how things just show up in basements, right? Without you hiding or you putting them there. Life sure is full of surprises!”
And on tonight’s episode of ”Things that can be said by moms with secret nerdy hobbies, or serial killers…”
I guess those Not-Star Trek books really were Camila’s, huh? We got ourselves a closet nerd here!
I kinda get it though. I hate it when people ask me what my hobbies are or what I do on my free time. Because if I answer truthfully and say that I like to write, they’ll inevitably ask what it is I write, and then I’ll have to explain what fanfiction is, and there is just no un-awkward way to explain that to someone who doesn’t know.
Which is why my new tactic is to say ”I guess I like to write stories, like adventure stories. Oh, and I also like to bake!” and hope they focus on the baking part. The downside to that is when they respond with ”Oh, you’re good at baking? You should be on one of those baking shows on TV then!” and I’m like ”No, I didn’t say I was good at it!”
Another tactic is to mention that I have a (this) blog where I talk about cartoons. Most people seem to understand that, even if they don’t ”get it.”
Now, to be fair, they’re probably as interested in hearing me talk about my favorite cartoon as I am hearing them talk about their favorite football teams: not at all.
Speaking of explaining fanfiction though, I do remember in high school, we had this book on literature history. It had a (very) brief blurb on fanfiction with a picture of Lara Croft next to it? For some reason? I recall the teacher skipping over it so we could talk about ancient Greece or something.
I’m sorry, I started rambling there, what was I doing? Right, watching The Owl House, I’m a bit rusty, as you can tell. Let’s get on with it.
Tumblr media
Let’s see, we’ve got a Nontendo Swap, what might be either a DVD box set or a VHS tape (ask your parents, kids) called Rage Ron, another VHS tape called… Jen or maybe Den? I think? I’m no good at reading cursive. I can also see that someone let their intrusive thoughts win and took a bite out of a DVD. Which of the kids do you think it was?
Hold up a second… does the bad guy(?) in the movie have a scar over their eye? Like Luz? I also notice Bad Guy(?) wears multi-colored clothes like Luz did at Hexside, and the tip of their staff kinda looks like an egg, like Luz’ palisman currently does. That… feels like it might be significant, especially considering the movie is called ”The Betrayening.”
Tumblr media
And on tonight’s edition of ”If The Lampman had just waited a few more seconds…” the show explained it to me.
Villainous Lucy (GET IT?!?) betrayed their friends and now everyone is gone. Villainous Luzy says it was for ”the greater good.”
So, obviously, Luz feels like she let down her friends, betrayed them in a sense, and now everyone in the Demon Realm is lost to them.
The thing that’s interesting to me though is that Villainous Luzy says it was ”for the greater good.” That phrase… doesn’t really describe Luz, I think? I mean yeah, her motivation is to do good and help people and save the world and all that. Certainly, a greater good. But the phrase ”for the greater good” is almost exclusively brought up when someone wants to justify an evil action. You see it in villains all the time. They’re looking at ”the big picture” and find that they can justify atrocities for what is (in their mind at least) a greater end result.
To use one famous example from pop-culture, Ozymandias from Watchmen. His big masterplan would kill millions of people… to bring peace to billions, by preventing the impending nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union.
My point is (and follow me here, I swear it makes sense), ”for the greater good” is not a phrase I would associate with Luz. But… there is a character that I would associate with that phrase. Someone who has a facial scar, a magic staff with a ball-shape, and betrayed someone close to them.
Philip.
I’m not sure where it’s all going but… Y’all remember that fanfic I wrote after Clouds on the Horizon? All that’s at stake, which you can read HERE. Well, to quote myself:
”I-I hate you,” Luz said slowly, her voice as shaky as her legs. Those words were like poison on her lips. They hurt her more than anyone else. ”We are nothing alike. And I don’t want to be anything like you. Not in any way.”
Tumblr media
Hey, kinda random, but I just remembered back in Yesterday’s Lie, I theorized that Vee slept in the bottom bunk and Luz in the top bunk.
WELL. Actually, this doesn’t prove anything, I could still be right. Luz switched to the bottom bunk to be at level with Amity.
I do think it’s weird that Vee is lying on her back. That cannot be comfortable, right? I was even thinking of making another Vee headcanons post, where one of the new headcanons was that sleeping on their backs was uncomfortable for basilisks. I guess this smashes that to pieces.
Tag yourself, I’m Luz. I’ve slept next to walls my entire life, I’m not about to stop now. Also, we both have horrendous sleep schedules. Most of the time I’m fine, but if I get just a little off-centre then I’m out of tune for the next month.

One of those “Hunter is put in the human realm as a child and is adopted by Camila” AUs
Hunter fully believes that he is human, the ears and fangs are just unexplainable. They’re things that Gravesfield has just come to accept along with the fact that Hunter supposedly has no parents, he just appeared in town one day and Camila took him in
Just like Luz’s imagination being what casts her as an outsider at school, Hunter’s appearance also leaves him friendless. They’re both dubbed the weird kids at school and unlike Luz, Hunter does his absolute best to try to fit in. He’s interested in many things that Luz is (like Azura), but unlike Luz, the mocking and bullying gets to him more than it does to her. She acts like she doesn’t care and therefor keeps being herself while Hunter internalizes it
Because Hunter isn’t as imaginative, he doesn’t get sent to camp with Luz. BUT, he is there to say goodbye and after Camila leaves, he tries to talk to Luz about how good camp could be, but she’s too busy trying to get her Azura book from the trash can. They both see Owlbert and they chase after him together. They both go through the door and the same events happen, just that Hunter is there.
It’s when Eda introduces herself, takes off her bandana and shows her ears that Hunter is just baffled. All his life, he’s been an outcast and bullied for his appearance, and now there’s this other person in this whole new world, with ears just like his and it raises many questions.
let’s skip the boring parts and get to the action. despite finding out that Eda is a witch and that every witch has pointed ears, Hunter is still weary and he wants to go home, but he sticks it out for Luz. They stay to learn magic and Hunter just sends a text to his mom like “decided to join Luz at camp” or whatever and she buys it you know. Don’t question the logic. Anyway, unlike Luz, who decides to be Eda’s mentee, Hunter goes off on his own and tries to find answers. He’s got the ears, and if Eda’s the same and she’s a witch, then maybe it means that Hunter isn’t just a weird human after all. But Eda won’t give him answers so he’s going out to look for them.
Hunter ends up getting into some trouble and gets taken in by the coven scouts. They were going to take him to the conformatorium, but Kikimora finds them before they can. Instead, she takes Hunter and presents him to Belos, who is all too interested in the witch that believes he’s human, and this boy is staying with the Owl Lady?
And actually, I haven’t worked out the details yet, but the basic plot line is that Belos decides to take advantage of Hunter and promises answers as long as Hunter works for him a bit. Hunter agrees because it’s much more than Eda offers him. Belos teaches Hunter about the demon realm and offers to give Hunter power; in return, Hunter gives Belos any information about Eda that he can. For the first few weeks, Hunter travels between the Owl House and the castle (via scouts). Luz does question why Hunter doesn’t want Eda mentoring him too, and Hunter just brushes it off like he’s not interested.
Then things get interesting and there’s this argument. So, before that, Belos ends up convincing Hunter that Eda is up to no good and that she’s a bad person. Hunter wants to protect his little sister and he’s confides in Luz what he’s been up to and also what he’s been told about Eda. Luz, post Convention, tries to argue that Eda isn’t a bad person and that Hunter being fed wrong information. That’s when the argument comes in play and Hunter leaves the Owl House for good and stays at the castle. He still works for Belos and similar to Lilith who’s working to help her sister, Hunter is working and improving in order to get Luz to see that Belos is the good guy and is right.
Blah blah the whole AU is basically Luz and Hunter travelling into the demon realm, separate after a conflict of interests, and they’re both trying to get each other back. As much as they disagree with each other, Luz doesn’t want to go home without Hunter. But Hunter is all too invested in the demon realm and Belos’ Day of Unity. He’s just found out that he’s a witch that’s somehow gone into the human realm as a child, and now he doesn’t think he wants to go back. Belos and the Boiling Isles has so much to offer him, so why should he? And Luz just wants her brother back and for things to go back to how they were between them.
