“Roman and Y/N, you’re walking together.”

Immediately, the two of you exchange a strained look. You and Shiv are long time friends, having met in elementary school and been attached at the hip ever since. At some point in your life, you were spending more time at the Roy household with Shiv and her siblings then you were with your actual family. You and Kendall got along just fine- he was too quiet for your liking, anyway, and would just listen when you spoke. He’d give you advice in that soft way of his, and to this day you don’t think you’ve ever heard him raise his voice.

Roman, on the other hand?

Every conversation you’ve ever had with him had ended in some sort of argument. It’s not that you necessarily had opposing viewpoints, but rather you both wanted to be heard, almost always at the same time. The two of you have been clashing since the first time you’d gone over to their house, when you’d bickered over who got the pink Wii remote.

You weren’t going to argue over this, though. It was Shiv’s big day, and you were going to make sure it goes exactly how she wants it to. You weren’t going to be the reason she gets stressed out on her wedding day.

She continues on, giving the rundown on the rehearsal dinner. Everyone’s expected to be there at five p.m. sharp, in their places at five thirty.

She and her fiance decided that their wedding was going to be abroad, and your flight out to Athens is tonight. Shiv had gotten the entire bridal and groom’s party together just to go over everything beforehand.

She’d finished speaking a while ago, and you’re now sat scrolling through your notes app making sure you have everything at home ready to take with you to Greece. You were helping Shiv move a few of her things, like a few suitcases of clothing for her honeymoon, and were also bringing a gift for the couple.

You’re absorbed in your mental check listing, but you still feel the couch under you bow a little with the weight of someone sitting down next to you.

“We can get along for the next two weeks, can’t we?”

“I’d hope so, Roman.”

“As long as you don’t instigate anything,” he amends, looking up to meet your gaze.

“If I don’t instigate anything?”

“There you go, instigating.” You suppress a sigh, pressing your lips together, causing him to crack a smile. “So much better.”

“I’m only doing this for Shiv,” you remind him. “As soon as this is all over, I’m going back to praying you get clotheslined.”

“I wanted to ask if you wanted to do the matchy thing.”

“Don’t we have to?”

“I mean, yeah, but I was thinking I get you a corsage, you know? And I put matching flowers in my breast pocket. Maid of honor and best man and everything. So that we look good in photos.” His face pinkens as he speaks, and he’s suddenly unable to look you in the eye.

“I think that’d be cute,” you say honestly. The bridesmaid dresses were a muted lavender, the groomsmen’s suits a deep black. You knew they all had pocket squares to match, but Roman’s suggestion is strangely thoughtful. You like it.

“Okay. Great. I’ll text you,” he manages, pausing a bit to look over at you before getting up and leaving.

And he does.

You’re swaddled in bed, invigorating face mask on before you have to fly nine hours. He’s sent you a screenshot of a Google search on his phone.

help, he sends after it.

The search is just ‘pretty purple flower’.

There’s a short pause as he presumably searches it up. He sends you another screenshot, this time of rows of photos of the flower.

You don’t know why he’s asking you, but you respond.

god, you’re not very helpful

You think he’s done texting, but he sends you another five minutes later.

You have to get to the airport bright and early the next morning. You can barely blink the sleep away from your eyes as you shuffle to your terminal, having checked your obscene amount of luggage with the help of a scary looking driver the Roys employ.

You’re bored out of your mind as you wait impatiently in line to board the plane. Shiv had gotten you a first-class ticket, so you at least had that to look forward to.

You’re delighted when you get on the plane and find a massive, plush seat waiting for you. You stick your carry-on into the overhead compartment and relax.

You sleep through the entire flight. Your seat converted into a bed, and you were provided with the softest pillow and blanket you’ve ever touched. You fell asleep the minute your eyes shut.

You don’t realize something’s wrong until you’re inside the airport.

Since you’d spent almost your whole life in close orbit of the Roys, you weren’t unfamiliar with the press. They knew who you were, you knew who they were. They endlessly pissed Shiv off. She’d done her best to keep her spouse-to-be out of the spotlight, to give them both as normal of a life as possible. The press was overly invasive, and when it came to her family in specific, destructive.

Which is why you suppose the press is targeting you.

A few flashes go off, and immediately, reporters are in your face. You don’t know how they were let in to the terminals, how they were allowed to get so close. You feel the heat creep up your neck. You don’t like the attention- especially not this kind.

You try to push through, but you can’t. They’re incessant, and all you have in your hands is your sweater and your suitcase. You have your headphones on, and you do your best to keep your eyes averted. Despite the fact that you can’t hear anything, you just know they’re demanding comments on Shiv’s marriage and her relationships.

Before you give up entirely, the crowd is shouldered apart by a built man you recognize as employed by the Roys. He’s immediately at your side, arm closing around your shoulder, and helping you bulldoze through the crowd.

You’re frazzled, trying to stamp down the anxiety swirling in your chest. You make a mental note to thank Shiv for thinking ahead. You’re guided out into a private parking garage and pointed to a car. You’re then told that all of the luggage you’d brought would be retrieved, as it was all tagged, and you’d be off the moment you could.

You climb into the backseat of the car, just to find Roman waiting for you.

He’s worrying at his bottom lip with his teeth, but he visibly relaxes once you slide into the seat next to him. Neither of you say anything until he glances sideways at you.

“I saw your face on an article online an hour ago. Someone posted your flight details. I was worried,” he offers lamely.

You blanch. “How do they even get that information?” you ask, voice cracking.

“I, uh, don’t know, but I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if you got hurt.”

Neither of you say anything the entire way to the hotel.

It all feels wrong. The caring, the thoughtfulness. It feels like it shouldn’t be happening. But you like it. You like this side of him. It makes you happy.

All of your bickering had always been pointless, anyway. It’s not like you have some real vendetta against him. You hope he looks at you the same way.

“Thank you,” you say quietly, breaking the silence. “Thank you for thinking about me.” Shiv hadn’t. ๋࣭ ⭑

The day of the wedding, you’re rushing around, getting things done for Shiv. You’re running here and there, making sure the vendors know what they’re doing, making sure not a single hair is out of place. The entire day needs to be perfect. She deserves as much.

Your dress is on, your makeup is done, your hair is up. You’re all ready, and now you just need to make sure everyone else is, too. You aren’t about to let anything go wrong.

The makeup artist starts on Shiv, and you run over to the groom’s suite to check on them. You knock softly, and Roman slips out to meet you. He’s just in a plain cotton shirt and sweats.

“Are you not getting ready? Pictures are in an hour,” you tell him.

“Yeah, yeah, we’ll be fine. They’re all pre-gaming.” They all were. You can tell Roman is not.

“Can we take this seriously? We can’t have anybody be late. If we have to wait for anybody, then the entire schedule gets fucked up.”

“Fuckin’… calm down. We’ll be fine. Don’t get your panties in a twist.”

Miffed, but not in the mood to argue any further, you give him a look. “If you’re not all ready within the hour, I’ll kill all the groomsmen and then myself. Fucking hurry, Roman.”

You turn to leave, but he catches your elbow. “What asshole did up your dress?” he asks, annoyance seeping into his voice. He tugs you back to him, and you feel his hands smooth over your back, hunting for the string edges that controlled your corset. “Tell me if I go too tight.”

He pulls, slowly and softly, as to not disturb you. He stops when your dress sits snugly on your body, as it’s supposed to, and ties it tightly. He takes a half-step back, admiring his handiwork, hands ghosting over the curves of your hips.

“That feels a lot better,” you tell him.

His eyes flit up and down your body. “Looks a lot better, too. Whoever did that is trying to see you fail.” He trails off, but it looks like he wants to say something else. He’s in a sort of a daze, stare at you. He can’t seem to look away. He snaps out of it soon enough, and you come to realize it’d given you a rush of satisfaction to see him eyeing you like that. You liked it. “Fuck off. I have to get ready.”

So you do.

You make your way down to the ceremony space, inspecting everything. Thankfully, all is well, and nothing is out of place. Everything’s calm, quiet, and nearing perfection.

The time comes for you to help Shiv into her dress, and you’re both emotional, on the brink of tears. You tell her she looks beautiful, because she does, and you help lead her to her first look, where all of the couple’s portraits will be taken before the entire group gets together.

After you step out of the room, leaving them to it, Roman’s making his way up the hallway, this time dressed in a crisp black tuxedo, lavender pocket square tucked neatly.

“Hey, I’m glad you’re here. I have something to give to you,” he says, and you notice the small box gripped in his hand. You have to admit, he looks good in black tie dress. You could get used to the sight of him like this, every bit of clothing tailored exactly to his measurements. Not that you exactly found him unappealing other times, though. Because you certainly found him appealing.

He pops the box open, taking out a delicate corsage made up of purple and white baby’s breath. You have no idea where he got the thing, but it’s gorgeous. You offer your hand when he stretches out his own, and he carefully slips the corsage onto your wrist, adjusting it so that it’s straight. He keeps his eye on it, making sure it’s sitting perfectly on you before pulling away.

“It’s so pretty,” you murmur.

“I’d hoped you’d like it,” he murmurs back. “But, uh, if you don’t mind, I need some help.” He gestures vaguely at his breast pocket, where the pocket square currently sits all by itself. He takes you back to the groomsmen’s suite, beckoning you inside. He goes to root around in his stuff, which is all in a clumped pile in the corner of the massive bedroom. He cautiously takes out a glass tin, a single stem of white baby’s breath identical to the one on your wrist contained inside. “Every time I try putting it in it sticks out weird,” he clarifies, looking up at you, embarrassment tinging his features. “And, uh, you’re the only one who’ll give me the time of day.”

Your heart drops a bit. You feel bad, so you take the tin from him and motion for him to turn and face you. He does.

Roman doesn’t look you in the eyes as your hands smooth out his blazer. Again, these tender moments between the two of you felt like they shouldn’t be happening. It felt so right, though, you felt so at home, letting your hands linger on his chest. You gently tuck the stem of the flower into his breast pocket, letting it peek over and starkly contrast both the color of his suit and the pocket square. You smooth out any wrinkles you can find on his blazer, your hands sliding over the fronts of his shoulders, down his sides, over his stomach.

His face reddens, but he doesn’t stop you.

“You look nice,” you say quietly, straightening out his tie. He catches your hand before it leaves him, keeping it pressed to his chest.

“You think so?”

“Yeah. You… you’re handsome.”

“You, uh, you’re always the prettiest out of all of them. All the time. Like, I’ll see other girls, but I… I always know they’ll never hold a torch to you. I always think- I mean, I know I’d just be happier with you.”

Your face heats, and you can’t help the smile that begins to spread over your face. He moves your hand from his chest up to his lips, pressing a soft kiss to your knuckles.

“Since when?” you ask, trying to keep yourself together as he turns your hand over and litters kisses along your palm.

“Since forever. I’ve been crushing on you since you yanked the Wii-mote from me then beat my ass in Super Smash Bros.”

You let out an airy giggle. “I’m sorry our relationship’s never been… amicable ’till now.”

Roman lets go of your hand, instead winding his arms around your hips and pulling you flush against him. “Don’t know what that means,” he says simply, fingers going up to brush gently along your jaw. He’s careful not to mess up your makeup or hair. He just wants to touch you. “Just glad you’re here.” His gaze flickers down to your lips. “Can I…?”

You don’t answer, instead leaning forward to capture his lips in a kiss. He makes a strangled noise at the contact, hand adjusting to instead cup your jaw, anchoring you to him. He immediately deepens the kiss, and you swear you can taste the universe on his tongue.

”Happy birthday Kenny!“ you smile as you give him a long hug.

”Thank you, honey.“ he squeezes you

”Look at you, old man.“

”Yeah I’m, I’m ancient now.“ he chuckles knowing you’re only half a year behind him.

You brought him a small cupcake that you made yourself with a candle. But you have to leave soon enough and you know Kendall has to plan a lot for tonight too.

The guestlist was stacked with big names but only a handful people you knew and liked. Stewy had told you that he wouldn’t attend the party so you were looking forward to seeing Rava and Willa again.

Rava introduces you to Gary, who she’d told you about. He’s nice and funny and you’re glad she has found him, she seems happy.

”Soo? Any news on Kendall?“ she asks with a grin that tells you exactly what she’s hinting at

”Well, he’s still with Naomi so no?“ you say

”Hm.“ she makes an unsatisfied sound

”We haven’t seen each other these last days much anyway. He was in Virginia I was in LA for work and oh do you know that he thought Stewy and I were fucking?“

Rava laughs ”Seriously?“ by you nod

”Oh he’s so clearly into you… also that explains the room.“

”Rava no. I told you he doesn’t like me..“

”No, y/n I’m telling you. He wouldn’t act like that if he wasn’t, he was clearly jealous.“

”Well it’s not like he’s showing me so he wouldn’t have a say in this even if I were fucking Stewy. Wich im not.“

”Maybe you should.“ she shrugs with a grin

You chuckle a little before you remember something

”Wait, what room?“

When you find the room with the fake tabloid headlines, you see that there’s one of you too. It’s a picture of you and Stewy titled with "Y/n y/l/n and Stewy Hosseini spotted leaving motel together"

You chuckle at it and snap a picture to text to Stewy. Your not mad, it’s obviously a joke and yours is way nicer than the others.

'What exactly am I looking at?' Stewy texts back

'Kendall’s party decor :)'

'What? Were all the balloons sold out?'

You go to explore more of the party. You don’t really want to go to the treehouse because you don’t really vibe with Matsson and also because it breaks your heart. Kendall obviously had build his childhood treehouse to feel some kind of comfort.

You hang out with Rava and Gary for some time until Kendall wants to see her and you and Gary go look around.

You go into the tree house but it’s rather boring. You don’t really vibe with Matsson and you don’t want to be around his siblings, especially Shiv after the letter.

It’s later, Kendall had cancelled his performance and you last saw him with his girlfriend.

”Where are you all? You’re missing the performance of the century, Shiv is totally losing it on the-" the word dancefloor gets stuck in your throat. You just stumbled into the room where the presents are stored, when you see Kendall kick at the gifts before he sinks down to the ground. Naomi is standing next to him. Are they fighting? You ask yourself. You crouch down next to Kendall. "Hey Kenny, hey.“ you say softly, touching his shoulder. He buries his head in his folded arms. "It’s okay. I’ve got you." You tell him in an attempt to calm him a little. "I just wish I was-" he cuts himself off. "What?" You ask him kindly, your hand gliding over the back of his head. "I just wish I was home.“ he says as tears gather in his eyes. He looks so broken and you can feel your own heart crack. "Okay… okay let’s get you out of here, yes?" You ask him and he nods. You get up, holding your hand out for him to take, wich he does and you help him up. You remember Naomi is standing next to you. She looks at you with one eyebrow pulled up slightly. You can’t tell if she’s worried or condescending you. You turn back to Kendall "Do you want Naomi to take you home?“ you ask, voice low so she can’t hear you over the music. He looks at you and shakes his head a little "Can you?“ he asks and you nod "Of course Ken.“ you squeeze his hand.

"Hey Naomi? I think I’ll take him home." You tell her, she gives you a tight lipped smile before pressing a kiss to Kendall’s cheek "I’ll call you tomorrow.“ she tells him and she follows you out of the party.

"Birthday Boy!“ Roman calls out "Happy Birthday Man!“ And you let out a huff of air. You had hoped not to run into his siblings on your way out. "Not now, Roman.“ You say a little curd. "Yeah sorry! Goodnight!“ His brother calls out and you hope he will leave it at that. But you guess you aren’t that lucky today. Because its Kendall who starts speaking now. "Neither of you should be in here.“ Kendall says, he sounds exhausted. "Can we get them out?“ You’re friend requests to no one in particular before repeating the sentence louder towards one of the security guys. "Its a little late for that, buddy. I already spoke to Mattson, who hates you by the way and laughs at you constantly.“ Roman says while you make eye contact with Shiv, who looks away awkwardly. "Just stop.“ She says to Roman, who answers her immediately "Oh what? Go easy on birthday boy?“. Now its Kendall who speaks again "Did you come here to see me, at all? You didn’t, did you Shiv?“ He asks the red haired woman. "Well.. look we haven’t been getting along that great lately so what do you think?“ She tells him and you just wish for this conversation to be over. They fight for some moments, Roman admits that they were spying on Kendall’s kids.

You see Kendall get closer to his brother, you want to stop him but you can’t move. "You’re not a real person. You know that? You’re not a real person! You’re not real!“ Kendall says. "Come on why don’t you hit me? Come on, shitty Jesus. You know you want to. Just fucking hit me.“ Roman dares him "'You’re not a real person’ fuck you.“ he adds and Kendall moves away. He walks a few step and you and Naomi follow him quietly. "All right sorry, have a good birthday. Okay, fuckface?“ Roman says while patting his back two times before he pushes him. Kendall stumbles and falls. You and his girlfriend rush to his sides as you hear his brother say "Oh shit are you okay?“ While laughing. He calls another "Happy birthday!“ As you help Kendall up. "Everybody take it easy? Okay?“ Connor calls out. ”For fuck sake“ you mumble under your breath. Roman is still laughing his hyena laugh as you get Kendall on his feet again. He looks around, he looks absolutely devastated. He grits another "Take your fucking coat off.“ At Connor before he takes off towards the exit. You don’t spare another look at his family members as you make your way out of this birthday party from hell.

”Yeah, Ken take your girlfriend and your life long side piece and fuck off.“ Roman calls after you. You turn back around with a frown ”Oh come on Roman, really?" You say to the younger man who just chuckles. You pull Kendall with you out of this party. Saying goodbye to Naomi, you give her a hug. Tonight is not the night for weird tensions between you two, at the end of the day you two care about Kendall. She seems content with you too, hugs you back and tells you to take care.

Fikret is already there when you get outside. He holds onto your hand for the whole drive back home and you let your thumb glide over his knuckles .

'I just want to be home' is playing on your mind. He sounded so upset, it makes you want to tear up just thinking about it.

You tell Fikret to drive to your address.

You arrive and the house and the doorman lets you in. The way up is silent like the drive here was. Once in the apartment he lets go of your hand. ”Do you want to drink anything? Or something to eat?“ you ask but he shakes his head. Kendall walks over to your window and opens the door to your balcony. You get him a glass of water anyway. You follow him outside, just standing there for a few moments looking into the city at night. It looks beautiful but your eyes rest on your friend. Trying to read his mind, what he’s thinking about. It probably would break your heart. You have grown more concerned about Kendalls mental health in the last months. You worry constantly about him, wanting to help somehow. You could tell he was on the edge the whole day. His strive for the perfect party, him being an ass to Greg, Comfry and Rava. You even had a small argument yesterday, telling him he can’t make Comfry sell all those lunchboxes on ebay and store them in her apartment. You felt bad for the girl, she was his PR and not some intern. Him possibly loosing the case against his dad weights heavy on him too.

It’s colder now than it was in the daylight, so you go back inside to grab a blanket.

You take the soft fabric and wrap it around his shoulders. "Let’s sit down.“ he follows you to the big lounger and after you sit down he sinks his head down until it rests on your lap. You tangle your fingers in his hair automatically, scratching his scalp, something that had always gave him some comfort.

You wish you could take his worries away. You know Kendall is not in a good place mentally but there’s nothing you can do except from being there for him.

”Uh, Dad, he gave me the opportunity to cash out.“ Kendall speaks up, it’s the first thing he said since you arrived at your place.

”Wow, seriously?“ you ask

”Uh-huh.“

”So what do you want to do?“ you ask still caressing his hair. He turns onto his back so he can look up at you

”I don’t, I don’t know.“

You hum

”Maybe I should do it.“ he says

”Maybe, yes.“ he studies your face for a moment

”I could be free.“

”Could do your own thing or just travel or something.“

He nods a little

”You’re a better person than him, Kendall. I know he’s your dad but he’s not a nice person. But you are. You’re a good man.“ he blinks a few times taking a deep breath.

”Thank you.“

You wake up the next morning from a phone ringing. "Ken?“ you ask and he groans as an answer. He gets out of bed in his shirt and sweatpants, he has more of his things at your place than at Naomi’s. He searches for his phone in the pocket of yesterdays pants. Naomi is calling and he knows he shouldn’t feel annoyed by it, she’s just worried, she’s caring about him. ”Who is it?“ you ask and he tells you ”Nay.“. After a few more moments he answers the call. "Yeah?… sorry… I’m alright… Uh, no, no I don’t think so… what about tomorrow? Yeah okay, bye." Is what you hear from the dialogue. You can’t help to ask yourself if they’re doing alright as a couple. Kendall puts the phone down on your bedside table before he climbs back under the covers, arms going around your middle as he buries his face into the back of your neck. "Everything okay?“ you ask your hand going up to caress his head. He hums as an answer. You just lay with him for another hour, drifting in and out of sleep.

You make him breakfast, coffee and pancakes and bring them back to your bed. Afterwards while you’re laying back under the covers of your bed, you remember something. You get up and walk towards the bag you carried with you yesterday. ”Where you going? Don’t leave.“ Kendall says and you send him a soft reassuring smile, grabbing the item you wanted to give to him. You climb back in the warm bed and look at the wrapped gift in your hands. ”I forgot to give you my present yesterday.“ you say before adding ”Well, I didn’t forget, I just wanted to give it to you in person.“ you explain. You didn’t want to put it on the present table to all the other presents that seemed to hold no real meaning. He looks at you with big eyes and you hand him the small wrapped box. He looks at it intrigued, slowly tearing off the paper. Carefully because he can tell you wrapped it yourself. In it is a cassette, he reads the label 'Kendall & Y/n‘s mixtape 00' is written in hand and under the plastic case is a pic of the two of you. You must have been around 20 when the picture was taken, it’s from a photobooth that was in the bar near college. It came out as a strip but you cut it up so that you both could have the pictures, his is still in his wallet. It must have been right at the time you two started to sleep with each other, when you were crushing hard on the other. He turns the case and his assumption is confirmed, all the songs you two liked in college are written on the back, some in your writing some others in his. He can feel himself tearing up. After all these shallow things he was given yesterday and the disappearance of his children’s present, the only other present that meant something to him. Even his girlfriends present seemed as if she didn’t knew him.

You cup his cheeks to wipe away some of the tears. ”Thank you. Uh, thank you so much.“ he chokes out. He crumbles then, clinging to you and you feel like crying too. ”Shh, Kenny. It’s okay, I’ve got you.“ you whisper into his hair. ”You will be okay, I’m not gonna leave.“ you caress his neck. When he calms down a little, you just lay there his head resting on your chest, your arms around him. He feels absolutely miserable, his birthday was a disaster, his family hates him, he lost his kids present. All these thoughts circle around his head and he feels empty. Empty and just so tired. He doesn’t know if he has any fight left in him.

The weekend was spend with Kendall in your apartment but today you have to go back into work for a bit, there’s a meeting that is fairly important. But what is important, when your best friend is obviously not doing well? You have contact with Jess who you asked to call you should anything happen.

Work is okay, you talk a bit to your friend Michelle who works in PR and you sort through your emails, listen to a few demos that have been sent in and get a few stage plans sent out. The meeting is boring and nothing that couldn’t have been done in an e-mail. At some point you get a message from Kendall asking you if you want to hang out later. Of course you say yes, but you are confused since he wanted to meet Naomi today and you assumed he would stay at hers.

On the way home you buy some food from a place you know Kendall likes.

You call out his name, wondering if he’s already back or still with Naomi. Your thoughts are interrupted when he comes out of his bathroom and you stop in your tracks. Your eyes going wide "Y/n! You’re back!“ he says and you just nod with your mouth slightly agape. His hair is gone. "Wow- okay, what happened to you?“ you ask with a humorous tone in your voice "I thought I needed a change. How do you like it? I think it’s kinda cool, right?“ he asks you while scratching his head. It was probably a manic impulsive decision and that worries you but you can’t deny that he looks hot. "Yeah you look good, really.“ you say slowly coming close to him a grin on your face "Can I?“ you ask as you reach your hand up "Uh-huh.“ he answers and you let your hand go over his head, it feels different but not bad. ”Yeah, it’s really nice.“ he smiles at your words.

"How was you day? How is Naomi?" You ask when you retread your hand "Oh, yeah about that.“ he says and you brace yourself for what could come next "Uh, we kind of broke up.“ he tells you and your eyes widen "Oh I’m so sorry-" he shakes his head "No don’t be, it’s better this way.“ he seems genuine "We weren’t good for each other we would destroy each other.“ he tells you and you have to admit he’s right. "You’re probably right but that doesn’t mean you can’t be sad." He nods but tells you "I’m not- not really. I- uh, there are some things I need to work on.“ you understand that he’s not talking about a deal or work in general, this is more a mental kind of work and you’re proud of him for accepting that he needs help.

You don’t know it but Kendall also had to break up with Naomi because it wasn’t fair towards her to stay with her when his feeling for you are getting harder and harder to bury.

I am back on my Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil nonsense and I have to say, no canon ship will ever hit me in the way that Kendall/Ronaldo did.

I am so incredibly in love with the vibe that is "Two absolute NERDS are head over heels for each other and go out of their way to do nice things for each other" - supporting each other in presentations, remembering each other's birthdays, arranging dinner for each other, covering for the other in front of the principal, gasping in horror when the other gets in trouble - "but as time passes, the viewer gets to watch the slow unraveling of one of them secretly falling out of love with the other but not being emotionally ready to admit it yet." That is incredible.

I adore the K/R ship because it lasted so long and it was never considered a big deal. It was just "Yeah, they're dating. They do dating people things. Literally no one is jealous of them and no one ruins their social life. Keep scrolling." It was mainly in the background and they were adorably obsessed with each other up until they weren't. And again, that was that. No explosive break-ups, they were just... sweethearts.

Ronaldo gushing over Kendall's Halloween presentation instead of going trick-or-treating is my everything. He adores her.

Diagnosed with loving his girlfriend disease.

They are a TEAM!! Do not separate them!!

The "show, don't tell" between them with the way they behave is fantastic. Kendall went spelunking for cave sap so her boyfriend would have a nice birthday present AND she took him out to dinner. Ronaldo brings her "educational chocolates." He writes poems for her in binary code. He supports his girl during class elections even when she's frustrated and snippy with him.

He went to her Delaware Awareness Month party. He brought a sign that said "I've been to Dover." He came back for Poster Awareness Month. He's so supportive and she's so silly. Kendall's wild and she seems like she should be the "popular girl" trope but she is actually just a massive nerd who likes algebra and stocks and I love her.

I love Ronaldo hiding in a cabinet and Kendall spinning her wheels to distract the principal so he won't get busted for sneaking into the office. Ronaldo went out of his way to be nice to his rival and learn new skills so he could impress her. They're so good.

They are not even main characters and we still got scenes of them being adorable, as a treat. Kendall literally calls him "the dark one." That's hilarious. They lean together and whisper in the hallway like goofballs. Then they scamper off to hide in the AV closet with papers covered in doodles and poems, being romantic little NERDS!!

This scene's funny because they weren't even holding hands a few seconds ago- they just grabbed for each other when they realized they weren't alone. Apparently the canon is that they were a thing for a while before this episode and I think that's beautiful. Just... out there living their best off-screen lives. Love that for them.

imo we need more media that plays puppy love relationships with all the adorable sweetness of potentially being endgame even if they're NOT intended to be endgame. I'd like to see more kids' cartoons showing that it's okay to have a good time with someone else, and you don't have to grow up to marry the first person you dated... It's okay to consider your options... It's okay to date and have fun and explore your feelings and like people and then go your separate ways and not be endgame. I wish I had more of that.

I've binged Kick Buttowski multiple times- it's a good pick-me-up and it's one of my silly faves. I really like the character relationships in it. It's got a down-to-earth contemporary vibe despite being all about action. It has one of the truest "We really are best friends who support each other through everything" friendships I've ever seen. It's got pathetic noodle rich boy Gordie. It's got Mouth, king of the shopping mall after-hours. It's got Emo Kid who's... Emo Kid. It's got Brad and Brianna... It's got Ronaldo/Kendall... They're all hilarious.

It's got Kick learning to respect his identity as Clarence the caring big brother as much as his identity of Kick the daredevil. It's got Kick protecting Ronaldo for a week because Kick's his understudy who desperately does not want to be Romeo in the school play. It's got the line "Let's go down to Foreshadow Park! Somehow I knew we'd all end up there." It's got the bee of the month club sending free samples in the mail, when will I ever be this funny.

It's goofy and fun to watch and that's why it's this week's Recommendation Wednesday <3

succession s4 e4 recap: ken brings a strap-on to a gunfight

I'M PSYCHIC! I'M PSYCHIC!

^^ from my recap of season 4, episode 1

turns out succession really is channeling their inner CW teen show. translation:

SHIV IS PREGNANT!

what gave it away? her face. oh, and she ordered a club soda with a closed top at the dive bar in episode two. don't think i didn't notice.

anyway, i know she's all poly representation and all, but let's be honest with ourselves: it's toms baby. she's planning her 20 week ultrasound, so i reckon.... italy?

kendall arrives at logan's makeshift wake/board meeting and overhears hugo in the lobby.

now, if you overheard someone saying "you fucked me in the ass with a strap-on" on the phone, would you guess that someone was talking to their daughter?

only on succession.

i'm not going to use space showing you hugos face, so let me summarize: his daughter sold stocks right before the news of logan's death was made public. he tells kendall. kendall has leverage.

now, enough hugo.

MARCIA IS BACK!!!

the girlies love marcia. lying about having intimate conversations with logan every night? we love that.

death truly does become her.

also, did anyone else pick up on the fact that cyd simply said "sorry babe" to kendall as he walked by?

greg is also trying to be supportive and we collectively join in on the kids giving him serious side eye (or ignoring him altogether).

much like the rest of the roy family, he is incapable of any type of normal hug.

the kids discuss marcia and kerry, and roman notes that he thinks kerry is "in marcias trunk. inside an anaconda. inside a sarcophagus." for a pre-grieved boy who doesn't want to make phone sex jokes about his late dad, he's still got it.

the suits are also there, gathering in the kitchen to look at the china.

just two gal-pals backing each other in business and sitting on each other's faces

tom receives a proper whooping from karl and eats a seafood taco.

i know i should aim higher in my important trade of recaps and give you more detail, but i can't. i shan't. it is what it is.

oh, but important: karl is in on a greek island with his brother-in-law.

and "your wife doesn't even like you" is a wonderful insult.

shiv gives us an accurate representation of what it is like to talk to a swede:

for context, i'm norwegian. the banter is scandi culture.

saying "bad one" when your dad dies? also scandi culture.

willa is truly winning in this episode. she gets logan's apartment, a dig at marcia AND a moneymoon touring the midwest. cheese curds all the way.

and they save a bunch on realtor fees, of course.

the gang finds a piece of paper.

we are getting so much gerri/frank/karl content this season, i am chuffed! yes, sure, the sibling dynamic is interesting, but the gerkrank (?) vibes are strong!

they all make very funny jokes about throwing the piece of paper in the toilet. haha comedy gold.

kendall manages to make his brother and sister laugh for once in his life. all it took was for him to make a joke about their dad not being a pedo.

i'm going to make obit decoding my new thing.

he is pleased. and we, my girlies, are one step closer to kendall having a full godfather-like arc.

how did you become a big time rush fan?

my college roommate introduced me our sophomore year! my spotify tells me i added my first btr song to my playlist on oct 5th 2021 if we want to get specific about it. i wasn't allowed to watch nickelodeon growing up - had i been, i would have definitely been a fan when it was airing! i'm a huge boyband girlie, so my roommate was shocked when she asked me if i'd ever seen btr and i didn't even know what it was. i only knew of the song big time rush through that "why are you in such a big time rush?" vine :)

2. who is your favorite member (and why)?

in the showverse, james 100%! if you couldn't tell by my blog i love him very much. cute, silly, a little bit stupid... dream guy fr. but irl, definitely kendall! from interviews i think our personalities are similar and we'd vibe together well :) he seems really sweet and laid back. i also really love his work outside of btr

3) what are your top three favorite big time rush songs?

worldwide, paralyzed, picture this! worldwide bc it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy whenever i hear it. paralyzed because it's closest to my music taste outside of boybands; musically i think it's just incredible with the blend of rock elements into the love song and vocally the boys just kill it. i wish they had more songs like that. picture this because i love the little storyline woven throughout because it's so vivid i feel like they're singing to me and it always makes me want to put together a scrapbook lol! and the guitar is soooo sweet. honorary mentions to amazing, like nobody's around, love me, love me, this is our someday, and time of our life

8) who's your favorite character from the show?

lucy :) she is the loml i wish they didn't do her so dirty. i feel like she was created as a caricature of punk/emo culture and there was a big waste of opportunity to have her introduce her pop friends to a new genre idk. i'm very big into pop/punk/emo and i wish we got more of her music in the show as well even if it's not about her. the snippet of "you dumped me for her" always leaves me wanting a full song! and i really wish they didn't force her into a relationship with james lmao; they've both got some things to work out about themselves when they get together and i don't think them being together fits either of their characters! but regardless, she is my favorite. i love a little pot-stirrer alt girl :) and a singer songwriter? all on her own? such insane talent they do not really commend her on!!

ughhh i just went through all my concert photos and none of them are any good 😭 but i’ll pick an oldie-

Omgggg you’re back! A blurb about how Kendall goes all out for Stella’s birthday?? Imagine how much he would do if he did all that for his 40th!

ohhh so true hahah he would! we already know he gets her gifts just for fun, so he'd go alllll out for holidays, but ESPECIALLY her birthday. i think that he likes to see her get older (bc hes so old lmao) and seeing her grow into herself and become better every year is something he cherishes.

in the dating stage i think that he would do the most because he wants to impress her. i think the first birthday he plans is typical kendall, over the top and extremely unnecessary. stella fucking hates it but puts a smile on her face as she greets 500 of her closest friends. there's a small theater playing her movies on repeat and a mini museum about her character's storyline on delirium. a giant glamor shot (kendall made her get them done) of stella and her dog hangs next to a buffet of her favorite foods. shes so flattered that kendall did all of it but is mortified by the amount of gifts and barely makes it through the night without having a panic attack. it was just so overwhelming.

"you loved it, right?" he asks in the limo home, still wired even though it's four in the morning and they were just leaving the venue.

she nods, yawning, but fesses up in the morning and insists for smaller parties from now on.

"what about the babies?" he pouts.

"what about the babies?" stella cocks an eyebrow at him.

he pulls her in close. "can i go all out for their birthdays?"

she laughs, but agrees, both of them knowing deep down he was infertile and babies were a long way away if they even were to try.

. . .

but speaking of!

you better believe when those girls turn one hes going insane. one child's birthday is stressful, but now it was doubled. stella tries to calm him down, reminding him that they wont even remember it, but he's too far gone.

its a backyard bash at their los angeles home, featuring all of their friends and family. there's ice cream, there's cake, there's even a chocolate fountain. its way more of an event than it needs to be but everything goes according to plan and kendall finally feels like he did something right.

all other birthdays are pretty average, rich people affairs. before the kids are born i think kendall would chill out a bit, per stella's request, but still, those parties are going to be lavish.

i think big birthdays like stellas 30th or kens 50th would be a similar vibe to his 40th in the show.

"I was 19 in a white dress you called me you princess" Jenny and Nichole are starting and dancing while Robin and ken is praising you. Harry is vibing to you song

"I forgot I was a bad one" you sing to a now crying Nicole. You finish your song and nick comes back on stage.

"That was amazing demon" he told you"why did you pick it"

"2 reasons" you say with you voice distorted "one i have been thought sometimes similar and it is my sisters favorite song right now"

"That is a good reason" to replied "now let's hear from the panel"

"That was amazing i feel every word" Robin said "I see why you make it to the final episode"

"It was amazing and I have a guess" ken saids as Jenny groans "in the clue in episode 4 it said you are a actress and with a singer so I was thinking Celine Dion"

Harry's mouth was opened in shock "I disagree" from what I see i think she is Gal Gadot or Tyler swift" the crowed laughed at the last one as you are sent back stage to get ready for the revel

You walk on stage with you fellow finalist the moth and ant "now the first contestant unmasking is ... the ant" nick said sadly. Harry got him right with Bruno Mars.

Nick got back to you and the moth and the winner of season 9 "the winner of masked singer season 9 is the demon"

You start jumping up and down and hugging the moth who congrats you, the moth was Kendall jenner

"My first big movie was as rand in the arc of scythe" you replied "also the rabbit in the clue packaging was to represent my newest role of hexilent in the TV show corpses"

"Why does a rabbit represent hexilent" Harry asked

"Have not read the book" you say acting fake offended "hexilent is a summoner and her biggest sommon is a 217 foot tall rabbit name hopcules"

"When does it start streaming" nick asked

"August 11 on the CW" you said "updates every Monday"

"Ok to sing unmasked for the first time and with winner of masked singer season 9 Oscar winning actress y/n l/n" nick yelled as you start to sing Cinderella dead again

1. Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

> tom did! after finally breaking up, he just showed up at my office at the end of the day, said he’s all done with shiv and that he wants us to be together. like grown ups should be, no sneaking around to find empty conference rooms or ”late nights at work” as an excuse to spend time together at my place. he wanted a real relationship with me.

i was taken aback and very surprised. i knew how much he valued his position and the power that came from being the partner of a roy so him breaking up felt almost like a love confession, so i felt very honored and a little bit terrified. but i was very happy, too; i’d been very casual about us so far and didn’t want to make it seem like that big of a deal if he’d decided to never separate, but at that point i couldn’t hide my excitement. and i didn’t need to, he needed my overjoyed reaction to affirm that the choice he made was the right one.

as for who initiated the affair that started it all… i think it was him, he thinks it was me 😝

2. Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?

> we did go on dates in our affair era, took some sneaky overnight trips together and went to expensive dinner dates but once we started to date for real i took him to my favourite bookstore and we picked out books for each other :3 super cliche but we were both feeling kind of sappy and we knew enough about one another that a basic dinner date felt kind of redundant. and it was nice to be out in public without having to worry getting caught.

3. What was their first kiss like?

> the very first one happened after a meeting of some sort, the tension between us had been building for a while and there'd been a few almost kisses but we'd always been interrupted. in a bold move i asked him to come to my office and we walked there in total silence, both of us knowing exactly what would happen next. once the door closed... we POUNCED. very intense and thrilling.

second first kiss was right after the Break Up Confession, initiated by me. i just got up from my desk, walked over to him and went for it. just as intense as the first one but full of relief and excitement instead!!

4. Were they each other’s first anything (kiss, relationship, etc.)?

> does tom’s healthiest relationship count?? we really weren’t each other’s first anything, but i like to think i’d bring him back down to earth a little bit and remind him of what it’s like to be a normal person in a balanced reciprocal relationship lmaoo. getting him away from the waystar and roy family drama…

5. What’s their height difference? Age difference?

> had to look up his height for this… he’s 6'3" and i’m 5’5”.... a VERY NICE height difference if you ask me, PHEW. and as for the ages, my s/is in mid thirties to make my position (HR executive) in the firm more realistic soooo i’d say around 12 years? he is 46 i think?

6. What’s their relationship with each other’s families?

> since he’s an only child (i assume???) his parents would be glad to have someone else to dote on too. they’d also be very happy he’s with me now instead of being connected to the roy family, they did not like the BAD INFLUENCE they were being on his BABY BOY. so we’d visit them pretty often for the holidays etc. meanwhile my folks are in finland so i doubt they’d meet much. but they’d like him well enough for the few times they met since he’s weird but rich and we have a good time together. (and because of the finnish heritage i've headcanoned him to have lol)

i’m gonna count the roys into this because waystar IS ONE BIG FAMILY and because i want to!!!! i truly despise logan (it’s mutual), don’t know how to feel about kendall, vibe with roman and shiv is pretty cold and hostile towards me (understandably lol, i don’t like her either). none of them would like me that much, but i think roman would grow to like me the most over time (because of the double dates we'd go on LMAO). greg’s also a buddy of mine but i’m not sure if i can trust him so i’m very guarded with him. connor and i would also get along well later down the line i think.

I love Big Time Rush so much it's hard for me to give them a low ranking.

That being said the beginning of this song reminds me of the beginning of that one song about the body shop (I think it's called unholy or something like that)

The chorus is what grabbed my attention.

You spin my head right round baby right round

It's definitely not my favorite, but they really know how to get vibes going

The part where you hear them kinda echoing 'i can't forget you' is very haunting in the best kind of way

I wish Logan would've gone a little higher on that note he held out, but also idk his range

This is a little retrospective on things I made in 2023

Fic and video edits (mostly the latter, not counting clip compilations). Because slow progress is progress and it's nice to look at it all together. Putting this under a readmore since it's going to be long.

Video edits:

January: Julian x Garak: I Wanna Be Yours (Star Trek: DS9) This was a very simple edit I made in like a day (most complex edits take me a very long time; I'm a slow editor). The song doesn't fit my headcanon for them very strongly but it was fun, I'm just gonna quote part of what what I said in the description on YT "I really enjoy moments in my edits/making edits that focus on where characters get to kind of exist in contexts/settings/we can spend some time as a viewer in the moment with them." March: A lot of these I was working on wellll before March, the two succession vids are based on S3 stuff. Kendall Roy: Elijah (Succession) (mind the content warnings on this one) I actually think this is one of the best edits I've ever made and I'm quite proud of it overall. I would have liked to have done a better job of balancing the audio of Kendall's dialogue but otherwise I'm really pleased with it. Julian x Garak: Stay Soft (Star Trek: DS9) First finished more-complex garashir edit! I'm overall pretty happy with it. ✨🪩 pain 🪩 ✨ Roman Roy: The Metronome (Succession) (mind the content warnings) Quite happy with this one as well. I think a big reason that I tend to like my Succession edits so much (I think they're probably my best work) is just how good the cinematography of the show is and how much I vibe with it. April: Julian x Garak: Plans (Star Trek: DS9) (mind the cws) Bloc Party <3 Quoting how I described it in the tumblr post "I’ve got like a lot of thoughts about it but it’s broadly about like… violence and sacrifice and what people are capable of, ways people misunderstand Julian, and Garak and Julian’s friendship." I missed a frame of a following shot at one point, alas, but this was a fun very-dense with dialogue and lyrics one. June:

Tom x Shiv: Heat Lightning (Succession) More Mitski! (I have two other DS9 Mitski WIPs also) Like the quote above where I mention characters existing in contexts and settings, this really feels like a peak of me doing that for me, it's mostly them sitting/lying down/standing quietly and not being happy. Also did some juxtaposition against shots without people in it. Quite pleased with it.

August: Shax fancam (Good Omens) I did this in Final cut and Oh the effort into making those transitions happen. Here's the version on tiktok but I uh... the captions did not turn out well but they are synced to the audio. Aziraphale x Crowley: De Selby (1) (Good Omens) I made this one quite quickly as well, in under 2 days I think. Overall pretty happy with it except for the fact that I had a lot of trouble with the audio levels and I think re: overall structure of the edit that it lost some of its oomph towards the end, but I don't really know what I would have done differently with the latter. Some of the transitions in this were fairly complex and I'm mostly happy with them. The YouTube version unfortunately is pretty... artifact-y? November: I got Capcut sometime in the fall. Everything from here on out that I've posted this year has been made in that. Still vastly prefer Final Cut if I don't need fancy transitions, but harddrives and needing to update things etc. I'm also not putting anything else on YouTube until I finish my brightness edits. These two juxtaposition-y popular tiktok sound edits. (1) (2) (Star Trek: DS9) Quark bottom edit (18+) (Star Trek: DS9) - Very pleased with this. December: All of these were made pretty quickly (by my standards). a garashir edit to "Atlantis" by Seafret (Star Trek: DS9) Mostly made this out of wanting to finish something and the cuts feel a bit too fast for me but hey the act of creation! a short murder-y Garak phonk edit to BRODYAGA FUNK by Eternxlkz Mostly pleased with this. Still getting the hang of various transition things. a garashir edit to Placebo's "Running up that Hill" the text animation is kind of a mess (even on the version without the lyrics the captions are too big—I'm still figuring out caption size stuff re: what to choose) which is a shame, but I do like some of the clip timings (though some others don't quite work for me and I would have liked the cuts to have been a bit smoother in some places) and also hey made and finished something

Fic

Tuscany and New York (Succession) - [fic abandoned/not to be completed] Started this one and then chose not to finish it. However, one thing I was really enthused by was seeing part of an argument I wrote have a big parallel with what ended up in a scene on the actual show in S4. Felt very affirming re: my understanding of the characters.

with hope in your hands (Star Trek: DS9 [WIP] This is a fic I started as part of ectogeo's Garashir Wedding Registry. It's kind of a (mostly) Julian POV of the events in the continuity where ASIT/The Nexus/The Calling happened but it's also a reflection on some of Julian's closer relationships and where things related to marriage/possibilities of marriage came up within some of that. I'm currently almost done with chapter 4. 1: (Star Trek: DS9)

I think my lack of titles here and this standalone fic's place within a series probably has affected how likely folks are to read it but it's a short fic that is mostly Garak on the Defiant after it leaves Cardassia in Second Skin. Initially put most of this on tumblr but then properly put it on ao3.
