My thoughts on The Marvels and Suggestion for an Alternate Ending

So… The Marvels

A lotta people think that it’s Bad™️ and I won’t say that their wrong per se but also think there’s more to it then that

Spoilers for the movie, obviously

Here’s who should watch it

1. People here for a silly goofy time; with low expectations

2. People who like cats eating people

3. People who like women

4. People who like muscular women in tank tops

5. People who had a musical phase and aren’t quite as over it as they’d like everyone to believe

6. People who think Kamala’s brother is attractive

7. Ms Marvel fans

8. Did I mention the cats?

If you’re coming to watch a serious Avengers: Endgame type movie, I’m sorry but this ain’t it. However- However, I do think it’s a very enjoyable film.

I went to see it with my sibling and we had a lotta fun, where there plot holes? Yeah and I’ll get into it a bit, but like the characters for the most part where very likable and fun to watch; there were some well done fight scenes and some character development that I think was pretty darn okay.

Here’s what I think didn’t work- the pacing felt at times a little off but I believe that’s because they could’ve lost their battles a little harder. The first few losses are devastating but the second half of the movie they had a pretty easy time and lost with minimal damage to themselves (physically and emotionally) and the civilians/cities.

Captain Marvel as a character is generally over powered. Thats kinda her whole deal. Which is great for Captian Marvel fans but bad for writers because how does one set up any sort of stakes for that?

The answer is to pull emotional punches - if you can’t level up physically, it has to be emotionally- which the movie *almost* manages to pull off. Carol struggles because she feels like she doesn’t measure up to the hero Monica saw as a child and the hero Kamala thinks she is. She thinks she has to earn her place with family, and the only way to do that is by solving everything and saving everyone on her own, but everything she does just ends up making things worse. She feels like she is responsible (and kinda is) for the genocide of an entire race and a half of people and has to shoulder the weight and grief of that on her own.

Which is A GREAT CONCEPT!! I love that!!!

The movie only half way fallows through with that though. At the three-quarters point of the film where the interpersonal conflict comes to head (where it always does), it doesn’t quite hit as hard as it should. It doesn’t make me feel it, I want the gut punch and stab in the back while you’re at it.

I think they apologized just a littttle too quickly, which *is* in character, but doesnt necessarily make for the most entertaining screen drama

Over all though, there was some very fun fight scenes- the characters basically have this thing where they switch locations if they use their powers so the first fight is actually three fights on like different planets before they meet and that was cool; really fun cinematography

The cgi was well done (in my unprofessional opinion) and the costumes looked pretty good over all

Kamala is my favorite as she’s a teenaged character who actually feels like a teenager

She’s also an artist and fangirl who animates and writes fanfic so obviously I love her but yeah she totally stole the show; her family is amazing as well; 20/10 for them

It is briefly implied that Valkyrie and Captain Marvel have some sort of relationship (platonic? Romantic? No idea, there were cheek greeting kisses)

Carol Denver is technically married to some random prince though she makes it abundantly clear that it is completely platonic and only for a political advantage, he belongs to a race of people that can only communicate through singing and musical improvs, there’s this whole bit and I freaking love it.

The prince gives off Conan Grey vibes, no I can’t explain, no there will be no further commentary on that.

There’s also a sequence where the flerken (space kitties with tentacles in their mouths) are eating crew members. It’s shot like a horror sequence but has the most beautiful operatic music behind it- ten out of ten, I absolutely adore every second of it

Things that I think could’ve been changed for a more satisfactory ending:

⁃ Carol has too darn of an easy time, here’s how I’d change the ending:

I would have her flying into and restarting the sun as WAY more of a big deal. I’m sorry but that was to easy, she was completely unscathed by that.

I would’ve also had that be the final sacrifice of the film, instead of Monica. Like I get that Monica’s set her up for multiverse nonsense but I would’ve rather her stayed and Carol being the one to give up everything to atone. Of course it would need a little more lead up, but Monica’s did as well.

Together with that, I wouldn’t have had the villain chick attack again after being impaled, I would’ve let it play out and given her a second look into her character and whether or not she’d forgive Carol. I probably wouldn’t let her ultimately live either- have them both die (or ‘die’ in carol’s case most likely knowing marvel).

I think this would give Kamala and Monica a satisfactory point to their character arcs as well- Monica having forgiven Carol and accepted her as family contrasting where the villain doesn’t, and Kamala to a point where she both recognizes her hero’s humanity and fallibility but also great sacrifice thus motivating her to do start a team and do better to live up to the name she’s picked for herself.

Overall I rate the movie an 8/10, Kamala stole the show, I loved Monica, there were some great scenes, I had a lot of fun and I totally recommend it to anyone who’s into that sorta thing <3

I'll give a bit of a general trigger warning, there's gonna be mentions of abelism as well as sexual assault and homophobia.

It's really hard for me to really begin and where to start with my issues with the series, I'm very passionate on the topic of mental illness and abelism and I have close friends who just HATE this series with how it promote these abelist ideas and jokes and it makes me very emotional. It's very personal for me, it devastates me to see that codot (hopefully unknowingly) promotes these stigmas that effect my friends, myself (self diagnosed though mind you) and other people who suffer from illnesses like DID, psychosis, schizophrenia, ect.

Let's look at scarecrow first. Obviously, he's portrayed to have an 'evil alter' that in it of itself is an abelist stereotype towards DID. You can have villains have DID of course i mean you can literally look at twoface or the ventriloquist! But what separates those two from scarecrow is that those two have always been bad people, excluding their illnesses. (Of course ventriloquist is questionable as an example as in some continuities he's shown to be possessed but I'm not getting into that)

Oh but that's just the thing- apparently Jon doesn't have DID (I was told this by a friend) and so that automatically fixes that issue right? It's not like there's been other illnesses that's been villainised to have 'evil alters' or 'evil personalities' right? /s /lh /nm

Ok but no like seriously, that doesn't fix the issue like at all. You can't just blatantly write an abelist stereotype and turn around and say "actually he doesn't have that" like you still wrote it. You wrote that into your canon you can't just go back and rewrite that to be better.

I also have issues with Jon's character in general. He's incredibly out of character but I'll get to that in a lil bit.

Another character that has abelist writing is Jervis. From what I've read of transcripts and what I've heard from Friends who've read the transcripts/listened to the podcast it's clear that Jervis is written to have (or implied to have) something along the lines of psychosis or schizophrenia (or something similar) and while that's not inherently bad the fact it's written that he constantly hears 'the voices' and that he's constantly dissociating to think properly (think like how you see 'insane' people swing back and forth on the floor mumbling nonsense) and bestie that's not how that shit works! If I remember right to he literally admits to shitting and pissing in his cell in arkham and???? That's just gross????? Don't get me wrong arkham has continously been a horrible place so I'm not exactly surprised but also like??? That's still so gross and incredibly out of character??

And listen, I'm not trying to dictate on how people suffer from their own illnesses and stuff. But I just, I find it so horribly written? I'll use myself as an example. Personally (which I genuinely hate having to talk about) I do occasionally hear voices to varying degrees and idk bestie. I just, it's hard to explain and again this is personal but its just gross for me. And I acknowledge my situation is different from other people, but it's still weird to see in my opinion. I have a friend who can vocalize these issues way better to me but tldr it just pushes abelist ideas.

There's a two other things about Jervis I feel is important to point out. One I'm way more able to vocalize my issues on.

Theres a moment in the podcast where Jon and Jervis question whether harley is a natural blonde and Jon suggest that Jervis goes and check Harleys pubic hair while she's sleeping, and that she'll never know if their quiet enough. (to which Jervis gets his ass handed to him after a failed attempt if I remember right) which, I don't think I need to emphasize that sexual assault isn't funny. I'm positive it was written as a joke because I can't even fathom the idea that codot would have been serious on writing that. I can't in my right mind see how this is funny to begin with, as someone who has been sexually assaulted I just. I genuinely don't understand how people can just sideline this- how codot thought it was ok to joke about. I just don't understand I genuinely don't understand. And this goes back to how out of character everyone is (including jon), how unnecessarily mean Edward is to Jervis is genuinely uncomfortable, especially with how Jervis is written to be constantly dissociated (or that's how it feels) which makes that whole joke even worse as it slips in abelism!

I also don't understand why in the hell Jervis tetch is homophobic- of course I've only heard this second hand but considering how Jervis's written in this series I wouldn't be surprised if I'm right. But nonetheless, the decision to make Jervis homophobic is an extremely bold decision considering Jervis is canonically a queer character in DC. For YEARS it's been established that he's either queer or bisexual/pansexual of some sort and has even been in some of the recent DC pride collections! If I remember right he even has his own story! So it's so disheartening to see that he's written to be so out of character and to he so hateful when he isn't! And what's crazy is that I'm not even a big hatter fan!

I'm sure there's more issues to be pointed out but right now I've been dissociating really hard and I'm very emotional and I'm just finding it hard to to continue this tangent really and it doesn't help I'm at work. And even excluding this I just have issues from the whole scarecrow sexyman poll thing and ive already stated about my medical issue. I feel like that in it of itself is a valid reason to not like it LMAO.

Also I apologize that this is over the place, again at work and completely dissociating throughout this so a HORRIBLE combo LMAOOO

I'm sure codot is fine person and I'm not at all trying to cancel or start anything. It's just disheartening to see so much abelism go unchecked! Honestly if codot just did his research on these topics (and stopped joking about sexual assault) then I wouldn't have such a huge issue. But he hasn't, and it doesn't feel like he's gonna.

Feel free to correct me if anything I've stated has been wrong though! I don't at all mean to spread any misinformation!

P.s. don't give me the whole "oh he's just one guy and this is just a simple fan project" bullshit when that doesn't excuse anything. I'm literally one person making my fan story and I'm over here reading medical textbooks and doing my research because I understand a lot of my interpretations NEED that research and it's so easy to put in abelist ideas. It's genuinely not hard to do research.

OKAY IM GONNA TALK ABOUT TMNT MM NOW

WARNING FOR SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!!! THIS IS A RAMBLE POST, I AINT TIPTOEING AROUND IT!!!

Starting off the bat, everyone who said Rise lovers were gonna love MM were absolutely correct. I adored this movie with every fiber of my being and I really think it could bring new people into the TMNT fandom just as ROTTMNT did.

While I will always be sad that Rise did not get the merch it deserved, I am over the moon that MM is getting it. The toys I've seen and merch I've gotten are already extraordinary. For the most part they are very very well made and most of it doesn't look like they've seen their entire family be brutally ripped limb from limb.

But moving away from my opinions about merch which is a whole other bag of worms being the physical item lover I am. THE MOVIE WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!

The storyline, the characters, the voice acting, the line delivery, the writing, the comedy, and ofc most of all

THE ART!! OMG THE ART!!! I LOVED EVERY SINGLE BIT!!! I see so much dragging on the art of this movie because it's ugly BUT THATS THE WHOLE POINT!!! It's meant to be messy, asymmetrical, even uncomfortable at times. Every character is so vastly different from the last, including every single background character. Some of my favorite overall designs were Splinter, April, Stockman, Superfly, Mondo Gecko, and even that fuckin BEAST Superfly turned into at the end.

This was the first iteration I watched where Splinter started out as a rat, being only into the more modern media, I had no idea that he was originally a pet. I could go on and on about MM Splinter and that is what I am going to do. I LOVED HIM. SO MUCH. He was such a dad, and an absolute badass when he wanted to be. Kicking ass to save his sons and just worried out of his mind about them. Despite his distain for humans, he was willing to take their help when it was offered. Instead of reprimanding his sons right then and there, he'd give them a hug and make sure they were safe beforehand. And when he saved them from getting their blood taken (I'm not calling it milking, please don't make me omg- /lh), he was like "I told you so!" but not in like.. a toxic way?? I never thought Splinter would end up as my favorite of any iteration, yet... here we are.

But y'all probably aren't all that interested in my gushing about Splinter yeah? Let's talk about the turtles, going from my favorite to least favorite (not to say I don't absolutely love them all, I just like some more than others.)

Raphael and Donnie are tied, but I'll start with just Raph. Raphael very much reminded me of when I was younger. Down to the struggled with volume & um... well, anger issues. Deep down, he loves and cares about his brothers, but he wants to branch out and meet new people. It's not that he doesn't want them to be there when he dies, it's that he wants to know other people outside of them. He loves them, but it's only natural to not want to ONLY have them.

Donatello was a silly guy, lots of playful jabs at his brothers and I just loved him. Also, the guy can DRIVE. Technically, being old enough, most places I know you can get a learners permit, so he probably realistically could drive. Despite complaining about having a "giant stick" much like 2012 Donnie, I found myself less annoyed by his complaints. Maybe I'm bias? Who knows. Point is, I loved him.

Leonardo, like Raph, was extremely relatable. With his upbringing and having a very anxious father, it makes sense to have such chronic anxiety. I swear, sometimes I feel like a mix between MM Leo and MM Raph. While ofc, I wasn't a fan of the little crush on April, it's not unrealistic. This is the first girl they've met and he has dreams of getting a girlfriend, obviously a 15 year old like that is gonna fall head over heels for the first girl he sees. Hell, when I first found out girls could like girls I honestly wasn't much different. (Ofc, I'm not a girl anymore, but that's besides the point here). But April shutting him down at prom was a relief, I'm hoping it just stays as a little puppy crush. It was handled SO much better than 2012 ever did, and I'm standing by that.

Now Michelangelo. Mikey was the SWEETEST OMG. Him and Mondo were an adorable duo and I'm hoping in future content we get more of them. Also, what is with Mikey and almost getting hit with cars in this film? I think the mans needs to keep away from the streets because he's like the critters down here in Kansas, very bad luck with cars. Only reason he's probably my least fav here is because I guess I don't have much to say about him, like, specifically?

HEHEHE. Ragnar is associated with orange to me, though he mostly wears blue in the form of his Stalhrim armor! He doesn't have that until he goes to Solstheim, but tbh I think I'm gonna have to mix in some blue to his previous armor designs, methinks hehe FOR JENAIS: Obviously he mostly wears black with red accents, because that's His Robe. Despite that, I associate him with green, and draw him with the color green a lot hehe. Orange is for warmth, fire, and all around like... idk. just Warm. And then the green for Jenais is definitely for envy, necromancy, and even a bit of Hermaeus Mora coding... >:3c

7. favorite animal? why?

Ragnar likes birds, mainly hawks! It really just finds them fascinating to watch, and feels that they guide it in the right direction... Hmmmm... :3c And Jenais likes elk! He's always admired their antlers and grace, even as a child.

OH BOY HEHEHE... we'll start with Ragnar again here. Ragnar has inherited my struggles with knowing myself and identity, as well as unhealthy selflessness. I think we could get along but communication might be kinda hard skjflsdj AS FOR JENAIS... those that know me know that he's a massive projection of a lot of Problems I have/had, especially around the time I developed him, lmao. He's very much gifted kid syndrome/burnout, he's been used as a vessel for me to explore being arospec, and in general he's kinda like if I just flew off the handle, but worse. And no, we would not get along, at least not at first... but I'm not sure I have the patience of a saint that Ragnar has to actually deal with him for long enough for us to actually get along KSDJLKDF

18. their opinion on lying, stealing, and killing?

HAHA WELL... funny I'm answering this today, since Ragnar has taken the reigns and developed itself in a direction I didn't think it would be going. SO LIKE. It's outwardly against lying, but actually lies QUITE a bit. Mainly about itself, its thoughts and feelings and such, as much lying to itself as it is lying to others to keep its appearance up. As for stealing and killing, it will do it if it must, but prefers not to. It generally stays away from stealing, as it never finds a valid reason to steal-- where as killing has become an inevitability in many cases. As for Jenais, well, his answer should be obvious: neither of those things are wrong, and in fact, they're pretty damn fun! >:3

26. how do they move? are they clumsy? light on their feet? do they use mobility aids?

OOH OK so Ragnar is very sure with his movements. He's very graceful, but his movements also hold weight. He's light on his feet but he's very muscular and has a good bit of body fat, so despite the grace it's easy to see that he could pack a hell of a punch if he needed to. He's quite sturdy too, and hardly ever loses balance. Jenais... I like to describe how he walks as almost like stalking, creeping, etc. He's fairly good at being sneaky, but even when not trying to hide, he moves with a strange sort of... I can only really describe it as a predatory gait, I guess?? Like he's ready for anything, always planning something. He's NOT sturdy at all though, and is easily knocked over. He used to be much more clumsy but has grown out of that for the most part. His posture isn't great, either, which adds a bit to his freaky, evil, creepy charm.

35. do they ever return home?

YOU WANTED TO HURT ME WITH THIS ONE. POINTS. I KNOW YOU DID /LH Short answer for both of them: No. Ragnar never had a home, how could it return? Jenais can't find home in the house he grew up in. Nothing is left but ghosts-- and the memories haunt him well enough as it is.

Callahan: early guy on the server yeah? He was there in ye oldey days, I obviously didn't *converse* with him exactly he was just there! He looked like his skin honestly, but he was wearing armor as you do, which did not look like minecraft armor it was kind of like, strapped on armor plates. I'm pretty sure he was actually a satyr (they were pretty common)

Connor: he’s chill. Normal short man in a onesie

Dream: physically speaking: average height human man (shorter than me L) with brown hair.

Eret: My royalty B) Darkish brown hair, sunglasses, bit shorter than wil but generally decently tall. Had short hair but grew it a bit longer, not quite shoulder length. Might just have been my perception because of the voice but to me i thought she was generally fairly masc for a lot of the time i knew them, but to be fair I guess I didn't see him as much after her betrayal anyhow, sorry big e. Which for the record, I forgive then, dreams a dick.

Fundy: FUNDY!!!! wil lied to me and told me he was just a furry and I believed him even though his tail moved and felt and shit I'm just stupid and believe whatever wil says- ANYWAYS we shared a room for a while in ye old lmanborg, it was really nice I miss him a lot. Like family, you know? Gives me the cain instinct to bite him B)

Speaking of! Memory I've written before I enjoy: I was sat on the couch with fundy, I had decided to lay over like half the couch upside down like a dickhead (/pos) and the annoying ass decided to slap his tail on my face cus we were being annoying and he wanted me to move. You already know where this is going, I wish you could hear his fucking SCREAM when I bit down on his tail full force, so worth it LMAO

George: pretty normal lookin human guy, got fuckin like shit creepin in on his face like not his whole face but like a fuckin rash pattern of mushroom pattern like red with spots amantia type shit, in the 3d and shit grosssss/lh barely saw him but he was definitely diseased in some way /hj

Ghostbur: brother time. Hung with me in exile because he is epic. He'd sleep in my tent with me sometimes, although I don't really know if he actually slept or just laid there and watched me from time to time. Either way it doesn't matter, I felt so much safer just having him there with me.

We went on walks. Usually with friend, out to the field get him some grass to eat. Lads on tour, eh? He'd always try to joke with me to cheer me up. I wasn't cheered a lot of the time, but I was a lot better than if he didn't help. Even now hearing his voice is very calming for me, he was a very comforting presence in the least.

Sometimes we'd just sit in the grass together. Sometimes we'd build together. Or pick flowers. Id sit under the sun, wanting nothing more than to just never get up from where I was laying, maybe sink away into the ground and be done, but he'd walk around picking flowers, putting them in a pile next to me as he went and then in the end he'd sit down by me and weave em together into a flower crown. Empty blue was more glassy (not sure if that’s the right word, just less *blue*) while full blue was more fuzzy(? it was less solid idk) and deep blue, like the kind you could use as dark blue dye or lapis. It smelled like rain a bit, sometimes it smelled fuckin bad when you got it all full of bad feelings, tubbos smelt like that I remember.

Nihachu: short (but not THAT short) human woman with long, fairly light blonde hair. She looked quite cool in her blue lmanburg uniform, I've got to say.

Back in early lmanburg, i bit Niki on the arm while she was baking, don't remember why lmao, probably just in a silly goofy mood, I just remember her doing the Niki squeak and getting cross with me over it, told me somethin bout how if I was just more patient I could bite some bread instead, but it was phrased more charmingly than that, she's better at words than me.

I feel mad when I think of her sometimes, but I'm sure she's cool now? I don't know.

Philza: technos roommate, medium sized blonde fella with the long hair

Puffy: MY THER O PISST!! She taught me lots of coping skills and how to deal with my trauma and helped me learn a bit more about how my brain worked and just as a whole a fucking inspiration who helped me in more ways than I can count, probably the person who helped me the most in the smp, not because anyone else was bad but just because my trauma with dream had me genuinely that fucked up ok, like she helped me through a lot. Not HUGE but in no way little, he got some meat on them bones. I think he was always pretty strong, shit just became more obvious as he got older and fatter, the fantastic side effects of aging I suppose. His horns grew over time as I knew him, sort of grew back and then curled down you know, ram horn shit. Pretty thick large horns.

I remember I think Wil telling me to hold my head up straight with the implied reason being because of my horns. But not because I was gonna hurt anyone or anything, it was said the same way adults tell ya to fix your posture. I remember being annoyed and not doing it cus I know best about my own horns or whatever, but it actually does have better support and balance annoyingly enough, a lot of people knew that just basic satyr posture shit. I don’t think the admins are as bad as you’re making out… I agree they could be better but I don’t think they’re doing anything terrible. Also they can’t help it if Lewis refuses to do a lot of content so they can’t show him as much but also I think they do show George and Lewis equally anyway so I don’t really understand the issue there… other teams also don’t show their reserve/junior drivers too much either so I don’t understand why it’s just a merc issue?? I don’t think any of the teams are particularly amazing in terms of who’s got the best content/structure whatever, they all do things differently. Also they may be in charge of media but if the higher ups want things a certain way or want an image for them as a certain way, then admins can’t really argue that? They just have to go with what they can do. Like I said they could be better yes, but then so could every other team but I don’t see why you need to get so angry over it?

Yes, at the end of the day, they have superiors that want them to build content in a certain direction. I understand that as I worked there too. But in some ways, they don't understand how to balance some things. By 2024, things were getting better by how they're treating George equally now but in 2023? I don't think so (again this is an OPINION of mine).

LH's content leans more towards his achievement, his cool persona, his fashion, etc and it's really diverse and very nice to see. But George's content is very two dimensional. Everything is somehow linked back to the meme or creating funny content. This might be a result of what you said "LH doesn't want to do these contents" and more but it's getting stressful when one person's persona only gets limited to one thing which in George's case 'meme'. I do acknowledge their effort in making things better and equal this year but the way they do some things, like the george clone video, they do it repeatedly and if people don't start asking them to stop, they won't stop.

For the reserve driver part, i think Fred deserves more content but in a way some teams don't expose their driver, it's an agree-to-disagree part.

preface: i wrote this on february 13th and am now archiving it over here on tumblr before i get around posting it to the actual archive (of our own). i'd like to clean it up before i go there, becuase i wrote this at like one am lying in bed and typing on my laptop that was sitting on my stomach. it's a lot of rambling. i go on a lot of tangents. it is not the cleanest nor likely most accurate meta you will ever read.

how characters (children) on the smp learn from history rather than repeat it: a thread

aka: stop liking the other one you fucks i opened the wikia so i actually know what happened now /lh

context here is that i had earlier made a much less coherent thread (not that this one is very coherent) with the caveat that i was going entirely off memory

this thread is mainly going over how tommy + tubbo both emulate and turned away from wilbur + schlatt respectively, and how i think that's going to reflect in ranboo's arc

"as long as i can't be the next jschlatt, you can't be the next wilbur." okay we all know this. it's obvious from this point on that both tubbo and tommy saw or had fears of how they were each developing into scarily familiar people - schlatt, a dictator, and wilbur, a madman.

starting with tommy, the parallels between his exile arc and wilbur's pogtopia arc are immediately, and glaringly, obvious. paranoia, trust issues, "maybe i'm actually the bad guy here", and most notably, intense loneliness. wilbur made it obvious he believed pogtopis's allies would all abandon them in the end (them being he and tommy, though how much he trusted tommy by the end is also up in the air), and he was completely prepared to kill anyone he had to in order to secure pogtopia's victory, despite also preparing himself to be the one to end it. wilbur gave up on l'manberg, at the very end. he believed tyranny was all that would ever reign, so he blew it up.

tommy, in his exile arc, was also despairingly lonely. he hallucinated tubbo, grew attached to dream, etc etc. tommy was very very close to "becoming" wilbur here (god i'm sorry this is so long already and just me summing things up we already know it's to keep my thoughts in order + satisfy my inability to shut up and use too many words)

where wilbur and tommy go their separate ways is when they were given an out. dream gave wilbur tnt + for tommy, he was. you know. gestures vaguely at logstedshire. wilbur took the out - he gave up. he gave in. we know he had moments of clarity (when niki was in danger) and Maybe this was one he could've had too, but he didn't. he took the tnt.

tommy decided enough was enough. so at a crucial moment in time, tommy turned away from being wilbur. he did not repeat history.

onto tubbo; admittedly i know much less about his arc as president so this will be less outlined. tubbo,,,, acted very similarly to schlatt. probably moreso than tommy and wilbur! strange new laws, ignoring his cabinet, execution, generally appearing to lose his care for the world and the opinions of others. i'd argue the thing that separates him from schlatt is the most important part of this thread, because it proves my point: he remembered.

i just want to clarify here: by "proves my point" i mean this is the clsoest we get to an agreement of the ideas i'm putting out here in canon?? ig?? as in like. this is the most on the nose way to say it. similarly in recent days to quackity consistently referring to his treatment of dream as torture, which seems to be a very "I Am Not In Character" move but is definitely meant for us, the viewers, rather than character dream or character quackity themselves. tubbo's is a little less like that but still it's kind of like pointing at the X on a map for us the viewers. ok tangent over

tubbo lived under schlatt's rule as one of those people he treated extremely shittily. he lived under schlatt's rule as that person he executed. and tubbo remembers all that! tubbo remembers how schlatt's rule played out, and he looks at his own uh, less than stellar time in office, and he admits this out loud (to ranboo, according to the wikia. i am getting all of this off the wikia. i did not watch any streams during this arc.) that he can See himself becoming schlatt.

and when quackity tries to execute ranboo for being a traitor, tubbo stops him.

onto dream and ranboo! dream is a special case in that we never get to see his perspective of things and are rather left to play fill in the blank, and this whole arc is special (in terms of this thread) in that it isn't over. so i will be doing a lot of extrapolating here.

dream starts out as a generally ambivalent character who has very few rules that he pretty much never bothers to enforce anyways (i think? i don't remember).

by this i mean, this is all stuff i heard secondhand in recent months and can no longer remember what it actually was because i never went back to check. i'm pretty sure, but just a disclaimer. i don't wanna get hit with an "um, actually

his villain arc starts very very early - two whole seasons before he really became one. in the war, he is the antagonist and he plays up to it! most of the war is from l'manberg's pov (or that's how we look at it now, at least) so obviously he is the Bad Guy here.

ranboo griefed a house like two days into the server. 'nuff said /lh

ranboo + dream are both heavily vilified characters from the get-go - dream's part should be fairly obvious (uh, the everything leading up the exile arc where he actually did villainous things), whereas ranboo's is most notably during the second festival's aftermath. taking the blame for blowing up the community house, wanting to "pick people not sides" (he wants all his friends to be happy - sounds familiar, right?), etc etc, and now he's with techno and phil, the former of which is Definitely considered a villain for working with dream

now many many parallels are being drawn between he and dream, especially with the whole enderwalking thing. in the aftermath of everything happening, he chooses to stay out of all conflict, until Something Happens and forces his hand. (the egg!) he wants peace for everyone, which again, sounds very familiar, right?

(slight tangent: yes, the griefing was forcing dream's hand. it's nigh impossible to construe it as anything other than a political attack - the vice president of l'manberg griefing the home of the greater dream smp's king? dream looks weak + open to attack if he lets it slide)

this was a bad way to put it but the spirit of it gets across i think. fuck character limit on twitter

that catches us up on all current lore. where do i think dream and ranboo are going to split? dream has been alone in his decision-making basically since the very first war. not once has he (successfully, we don't know if he tried) gone to fall back on his friends' support and ask for their help in making these hard decisions (of which there are many). he severs his final connections ("i don't care about anything on this server") and cements his place in history as a monster.

i think it is very likely that we are getting a ranboo "friendship and relying on other people" arc here. there are other ways they could go with it, obviously, but given his current arctic anarchist ties and what appears to be other friendships developing. hmm! i'm interested. this part is entirely speculation/extrapolation. point being. the kids on the smp do, in fact, learn from history. they still make mistakes sometimes, but past a certain point, they're always different mistakes. they learn, and they almost always get happier endings for it

i don't know if it's a coincidence that it's the three lore-relevant kids who are the ones doing this. i don't think it is, because this is a very well-written and clever story. the younger generation is the one learning and fixing past mistakes and leaving the world better off for it. that's very neat! i like it a lot. also now that purpled's becoming lore-relevant, goddamnit if i don't want to see next season being his "learning from history" arc. punz vs purpled, maybe? that'd be neat. who knows. ok i think im finally done lol ty for reading :)

caveat I forgot to add last night: obviously ranboo and dream start out in very different positions, moreso than both tommy and tubbo. but at the end of the day, all three of them are their own people who just happen to take after other people in some ways :)

The favour is one of the most important things he has always brought up during unlikely conversations cuz that is something he has to do willing or not cuz he keeps his word. So......... you’re aware that I’m Brazilian, right? The way you phrased it kinda sounds to me like you’re calling me a foreigner instead of one of “los de acá” lsfskçdf I’m confused. (maybe I’m just misreading it because of the aforementioned fried brain though)

Anyway that’s a loaded question, I think :D Are you asking why I like BrArg so much instead of Arg*Chi? To be perfectly honest, I didn’t even think of Arg*Chi as an option before I got into LH. I wasn’t aware of the cultural and historical ties and whatnot (which, honestly, made me feel dumb when I found out because the two are glued together on the map, of course there would be Stuff There).

But, well, as a Brazilian - and I can’t speak for all of us on this, obviously - BrArg just seems like an obvious pair to ship as soon as you’re exposed to the premise of Hetalia. There’s the football rivalry, the cultural closeness, the fact that we’re lowkey obsessed with annoying them and vice-versa... then you do more research and there are also many, many historical ties as well; there’s distrust, and conflicts, and slow approximation and collaboration, and endless competition laced with mutual respect, admiration and sometimes jealousy. The World Cups put all of those things on blast so it’s always a good time as well (yes even 2014). There’s a lot of material there to do whatever you want with them.

I’m not a writer so it’s hard for me to explain just how good I think this ship is lmao please someone help me. It just has a lot of potential!! And also they’re hot and they look great together.

So, yeah, even after I learned of the reasons why other ships exist, I also learned why MY ship exists and why I like it better than others, so my opinions didn’t change much.

I think foreigners (non-latinos) might be more exposed to BrArg because......... well, my guess is that since Brazilians can’t usually speak Spanish, a lot of the material for this ship is in English to make it accessible to the rest of the fandom - which also makes it more accessible to other foreigners. (kinda like I’m doing right now, replying to this in English :-D)

Updates and Questions!

Hey everyone, happy friday! I hope that you’re all doing well ^.^ 

So I just wanted to give out some updates and toss some questions out there because I really am torn between a decision I have to make and I wanted to get my reader’s opinion on it. 

Read more below if you’re interested about my new BBS story and helping me out! Also for a potential revival of something people seemed to enjoy ?

Virus AU Update!!

So, I FINALLY finished the Virus story outline, and I think I whimpered when I realized it was 57 pages long. (Libahunt was in the 40s, but it was also started at chapter seven for reference) I can’t even begin to tell you how many chapters this monster is going to have. I can imagine this story being around LH’s length, maybe a bit shorter? But I do intend to try and keep on a weekly update schedule like I did with LH, which means I’ll try to write at least 5 chapters before I publish the first one. 

This story will be published on AO3, because I like their structure better and I can talk with you guys directly there as opposed to the weird layout of Tumblr. I will be linking the story on my Tumblr so you guys can access it easily from here. I’ll also answer asks and stuff here about the story, but I’d love your comments/kudos on AO3 so I can see how’s the story’s doing. 

This story will have some mature content in it, as is the nature of this virus-verse. So this is where my first dilemma comes in that I need your help with. 

The mature scenes won’t 100% be needed to read for people who don’t feel comfortable with sex. Any pertinent information in those scenes will be given at the end of the chapter so you don’t feel like you’re missing out. I don’t plan on having many sexual scenes in the story, but even one can be enough to make someone uncomfortable. So, my questions is this; what is the best way to mark these scenes for people? The two options I’ve seen are:

1) Putting **** marks at the start and end of a sex scene, as a warning. 

Or

2) Making the sex scenes a different chapter. Like if a scene happened in chapter 3, it would come right after it as chapter 3.5. 

I don’t know which one is better, as I’ve seen both done in stories and it hasn’t bothered me any. Then again, I don’t even know how many of my fans really care about sex scenes in the stories. I know LH didn’t have any, but I’m not sure if this is as big of a deal as I’m making it or if I’m just being a worried old lady. Either way, let me know which way you think would work better for your reading experience! 

Voice Chats

So when I did Libahunt, I also always did a voice chat with fans afterwards. The chats were normally about the chapter, the development of the characters, the questions people had about the story, and just generally for people to yell at me or cry at me. 

Virus is probably going to have a lot of similar world-building ideals and questions, as well as roller-coaster moments, as LH. I won’t say it’ll be as intense, cause I don’t know if I’ll ever top LH, but it’s deff something I think people might wanna yell at me over. 

So, my other questions I have to ask is...would people want me to restart the tradition of a vc after dropping a chapter? I’m not as active in the BBS server as I was when LH was going on, but I could commit to this as I’ll be dropping Virus (probably) on Friday nights and I’ll have the free time to chit chat with people. Obviously, this isn’t needed for the story! But I knew that some people really enjoyed the community that kinda came outta that vc and we had a lot of good memories there, so I wanted to see what people thought of it. 

So those are my two questions! People’s thoughts on how to handle mature chapters, and people’s thoughts on reviving the voice chat.

Personally I think if i like a relationship between two characters, that doesn't make me a shipper. I have to clarify that bc ppl assumed that I'm attacking you.

I’m sorry that happened. I personally didn’t feel it as an attack, so I remained neutral (I commented that they shouldn’t assume you were an angry shipper or something but just someone who didn’t say things right). But I still think your perception of shipping was (is?) wrong or at least the way you worded the conclusion you came to after reading a short urban dictionary definition, anon. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t rub me the wrong way (I did feel misjudged…again) but I explained why as decently as I could.

You did say “1.from what you said, you are not a shipper, 2.you see LH as a brotp in canon, 3.you don’t want them to get together in a romantic way” and that sequence of assumptions is wrong because these three statements are not consequent. I probs wasn’t clear enough but I will make an extension of my former explanation here:

- You can admit two characters have a brotp bond in canon, while still wanting or wishing they’re together, or just imagining that there’s a remote chance they could develop a relationship, or even just acknowledging a relationship is not possible in any way and still liking to imagine them together. Do you see what I mean? that is what makes you a shipper; not the fact that you think a couple has, how do they call it, “canon proof” or the highest of possibilities; if that was the case, how would you even call people who ships crackships? crackshippers? is that a term? haha.

- Just like no one should assume that you ship two characters just because you enjoy their canon interactions (really people, don’t do this), no one should assume that I don’t want two characters to end up together just because I don’t see all their interactions as romantic. I repeat, there’s non-romantic ways to perceive love between two characters. Is not that the latter applies to me anyway because I’ve always made my ships have tints of romance from time to time in fan content as far as I remember 😅 (since 2013-ish), is just that, from experience, I know that the term “shipping” has become an umbrella term for some, given that they do have an emotional attachment to a relationship between two characters, but just don’t feel the need to see them doing conventional romantic things (I think that’s why the last part of the wiki article adds that it can also be used as a friendship term)

Now everyone can be certain that you didn’t mean to label someone, but you were rather…analyzing? based on your knowledge from personal experience…or formulating a question? maybe? xD; I’m not sure but it was definitely not the first thing it was just a logically wrong thing to say. The one thing I know is that I cannot undo other people’s reaction to your words, and again, I’m sorry about that. You probably didn’t know this, but believe it or not, that wrong perception of shipping is exactly what extremist fans use as an argument to invalidate people like me; people who doesn’t want to engage with one side of the fandom, and tries to get the best of every thing they enjoy, even if, to said extremist people, one “cancels” the other. (i.e. shipping two ships that share one character)

I know I’m about to be redundant, but no one has the right to define what we ship or not / to assume what we will defend or not, based on our likings or a bunch of comments/interactions with other fans without looking at the whole picture first (unless I constantly and actively show an obsessed and openly biased attitude, that is). I say this because it’s been relevant to me for the time I’ve been around. Others that “sTay iN thEir LaNe” (can you hear how dumb this term sounds to me) think everything is fun and games for people that stays in middle ground, when in fact it is a nightmare 😂 it doesn’t matter if you do 100 arts or reblog 100 posts of ship A, foolish fans will always see only the last time you gave an opinion of something you don’t like about A or an A shipper that makes all of other As look bad, or see that you’re not enabling all of As attitude as bad as they might get, or they will only look for the times you talked with someone that is known for hating A (yes, people who likes different things can have thoughts in common too, go figure), or the last time you gave a like to a person they don’t like, or how you didn’t defend an A person when they got into a fight with a B person, or look for the last time you shared something in favor of ship B or C, lots of other reasons to start jumping at you and labelling you as a hater, hypocrite and biased person, because that’s obviously way easier than looking at everything else before judging someone. I think this is what just happened with you and your ask too, not to mention this ask came in a bad timing, you were misjudged too and I apologize…I will just stop talking and keep apologizing lmao.

No one ever answers my question about the weird Harry and kendall yacht mess so I will try my luck with you. So who do you think was responsible for it? Is it 1DHQ or Jeff or Harry did it willingly? I wasn't fan back then but I guess it was after the band announced the hiatus officially so idk if it was promo for mitam or what, was it to separate LH after bg! Just wanna know your opinion cuz it always make me confused when I see the pics randomly

Yachtgate was a fucking hot mess. I don’t know. I feel like it was orchestrated by Jeff & Co. only because of the yacht photo leak that happened months later and the obviously staged “contract signing” photo shoot that occurred which i’ve always thought was more a shot at 1DHQ right before Harry publicly had signed over to new management in February. The kendall portion of it felt more orchestrated to divide Louis & Harry more as the kid came at the end of January and it was the most Harry has ever been involved with a stunt which was only 30 or so days before the birth. But, i do think Hendall is mutually beneficial and the new season of the Kardashians was about to drop as well, so I think that played into it. just a lot of shit tbh and it felt like it would never end aha
