i feel like we didn't give the mansion basement enough of a look because what the fuck. what the fuck. just purely from a game design standpoint the tonal whiplash of going from the fast-paced brightly colored noisy antics of the mansion to the dingy, dark, abandoned halls all alone- even your friends suddenly disappear from your side- is fucking insane.
it's comparable to the true lab in undertale, except at least the true lab had some closure at the end. the amalgamates were revealed to simply be well-meaning lost souls who didn't really want to hurt you, they were just hungry. alphys took everyone home. sure, there's the freaky flowey phone call, but that's undercut soon enough by the uplifting and jazzy beginning of the asriel fight and seeing all your friends again. in deltarune's basement, you get no resolution. spamton gives you a supremely off-putting fight in a strange setting, he collapses to the floor, and you walk out still feeling like that was just... wrong. even susie acknowledges it. there are no ordinary encounters in the basement. you don't even have enemy npcs to keep you company. the only people who live in the basement are the strange plug monsters and... that weird face in the dark. that place has been completely forsaken by the rest of cyber world. swatch talks around it, clearly not enthusiastic to go too in-depth. when you check the dark spots in the room with the machine, the flavor text reads "there's nothing interesting". nothing interesting? that doesn't mean nothing at all! there might be tons of deleted data and drawings in there, and we have no. idea. what any of it looks like. the empty, dusty chests that no one knows the previous contents of. what did they used to hold? the teacup rides, oddly well-maintained and shiny, clearly out of place among the rest of the decrepit place. it's like they and the plug guards are the only things in the basement anyone takes care to repair and maintain anymore.
coincidentally, they're also the main lines of defense against someone sneaking in to get to the machine. the only ones, in fact. shouldn't an artifact like that have, i dunno, sentient, mobile guards? but they don't. the machine is extremely powerful, and they know spamton wants it, but they don't do all that much to protect it. it's so fucking weird. the basement is so wrong on a fundamental level that's so out of place with typical toby fox fare that it really makes you realize that the next chapters aren't going to be all sunshine and rainbows. it sets the TONE. i feel like that was confirmed by some of what we saw in the spamton sweepstakes- the basement is bad, but the worst is surely yet to come.

why do you think tim agreed to be adopted if he doesn’t really see bruce as his father? is there anything parental happening in there??
He does! And he doesn't! And it is and isn't. It's a wonderfully messy thing!
To answer the first question first, there are a lot of reasons for Tim to be adopted no matter what. On the milder side, it's logistically convenient to have a guardian, and specifically to have one that is aware of and endorses his vigilantism.
But more than that, in the time after his dad died, Tim was in a very dark place. One of the things Tim does when in a dark place is self-isolate. He made up this whole fake uncle thing to stop Bruce from adopting him after the first offer, so that he could live completely on his own without being beholden to anyone. And that was bad for him! Self-isolating is bad for Tim!
So in that sense, accepting Bruce's second offer of adoption is a huge symbol that Tim is doing better. He (and Bruce and Dick) had the whole One Year Later cruise around the world to heal and improve, and Tim is less locked in grief now and willing to connect. And he shows this by accepting an offer of adoption from someone who loves him and choosing to live in a house with people he loves too. Hooray!
Because, no matter what, he does care about Bruce. And he cares about Alfred, who he independently had a close relationship with, and about Dick, who'd been calling Tim his little brother for years. (Dick and Alfred being the other members of the family at this point.)
So I don't think it really has to be father/son at all between Bruce and Tim for Tim to agree to be adopted, nor for it to be a good thing.
That said, I also don't think it's entirely not parental. I was being a little silly and flippant in that post, because I do think Bruce and Tim are weird about their vaguely defined relationship.
It is an absolutely key part of that relationship that, for ~4 years, Bruce and Tim were Batman and Robin, and worked closely together, and cared about each other, and were not father and son at all. Because Tim still had his own dad! Of course Bruce wasn't his dad! That would be just weird.
That doesn't mean there's nothing paternal to their relationship in the Robin years. Adult mentor/kid protege, sure there are absolutely angles here.
And it also doesn't mean they never became father and son after the adoption. A lot of this is based on vibes and personal interpretation! There's this story shortly after Tim's adoption where he puts a lot of effort into getting Bruce a perfect father's day gift. They do refer to each other as father/son periodically when talking to others.
My personal read on it is that Tim was very consciously trying to Be A Proper Family after the adoption, and adjust super fast. And I do think that by the point Bruce "dies" (or maybe at that point?), Tim sees him as more of a father.
(Also I think probably Tim is Bruce's son much more than Bruce is Tim's dad. Or at least sooner. Again, vibes.)
But I also don't think they necessarily need to be defined so sharply. They're never going to be like Jason and Bruce, who were father and son right away, or even Dick and Bruce, who were family and ward/guardian right away. They are always going to have known each other as non-family first. Which doesn't mean they aren't going to care about each other.
But I think it should mean they get to be little weirdos about how they do define their relationship when forced to.

The fandom used to be so fcking weird about how it went about interpreting canon. There's still some dumb stuff around but looking back on 2000-2010 era SW fanfiction people had the weirdest Legends-inspired fanon ever and genuinely held it as authoritative reading of the text even as the movies explicitly and completely contradicted it?
I'm specifically thinking about "Sai Tok" and how *gasp* the Council was apparently suuuuuper duper creeped out that Obi-Wan used a *gasp* forbidden Sith lightsaber technique on Darth Maul and they thought it was a sign he had fallen a little bit or whatever (genuinely have seen idiot SW youtube bros use the 'sai tok' argument to say that the Jedi code is hypocritical and they all use the Dark Side anyway when they need to yadda yadda).
But remember how the Council immediately knighted Obi-Wan in TPM?? They didn't HAVE to do that. People using the previous argument would go on about Old Republic "traditions" and how killing a Sith automatically makes you a knight and it's in the Code, but that's just another headcanon used to cover up that the first one doesn't make sense. Nothing in TPM says the Council knighted Obi-Wan out of a tradition they were obligated to follow - if it was the case, they probably wouldn't have given him Anakin. As it is, what the movie seems to be saying is that they knighted him because they thought he deserved it. (Especially since he didn't just hold his own, he also managed to calm himself down and center himself and that's how he got Maul.)
The part in the TPM novelization (iirc) about Sai Tok being 'frowned upon' (not forbidden) isn't in the movies and even if it was it's not very conclusive. Bisecting your opponent would logically be discouraged in lightsaber fights because it's been a thousand years since the Jedi have fought Sith, so anytime they pull out their lightsabers it's to fight people who very likely aren't as powerful as they are and the Jedi only go for the kill as a last resort. They just don't like killing people if they can help it, that's why you'd scold a kid at lightsaber practice who always goes for the throat or midsection. Not because oNLy SitH pEoPle dO thAt. And Obi-Wan's situation? was a last resort, so there is zero reason it'd be frowned upon in the Code or whatever.
And again, that's not what happens! They're so impressed they trust him with Anakin when they could have just knighted him. Frankly I think they wouldn't have had much reason to care if he'd bitten Maul's head off at that point. They also put Obi-Wan on the Council right as the war started (so either they made him a Master specifically to get him on the Council, or they put him on the Council the second they made him a Master for other reasons: bc he fought Dooku, bc he led the investigation, bc Anakin got knighted, whatv. the point is: they ABSOLUTELY trust him.) That he used a 'bad' technique is never, ever, EVER hinted at in all three prequels movie, it's never brought up, used to discredit him, talk him down, used by the Sith as proof that he is just like them... nobody EVER makes a big deal out of it because it's not!! To everybody, the big deal is that Obi-Wan SURVIVED! And managed to beat a Sith!! He could have tripped Maul into the pit, shoved Maul's own lightsaber into his skull, or stabbed him with an actual knife and that still wouldn't change their takeaway!!

You woke up the next morning feeling completely cold, you were shivering like crazy. You were positive you didn't have a cold. You rubbed the sleep from your eyes and sat up in bed. You sighed as you looked over at the time. Only 30 minutes to get ready. You groaned as you got up and stretched. You walked over to the bathroom and showered. When you returned from the bathroom you saw winter clothes in a bag waiting for you along with a note.
- good morning y/n, I trust you slept well, first nights were hard for everyone, my dear. The lady wishes to speak to you. - headmaiden Elizabeth sepol.
You half smiled at the letter and threw it in the bin. As you were getting dressed you couldn't help but wonder why on earth lady dimitrescu would want to speak with you. There was no reason for her to speak to you. You sighed and walked out your room locking it behind you. You noticed that everyone was dressed the same, probably because of the weather conditions.
You walked towards the elevator, watching as Leah and her small group of friends are giving you dirty looks.
" she's gonna be the lady's next bottle of wine soon girls. She'll call it the 'clumsy newbie" Leah whispered playfully causing the other girls around her to laugh.
"And the only reason why your probably still here is because the lady doesn't like drinking idiots blood" a voice rang from behind you. You turned to see a girl that looks like Leah glaring at her. They're probably sisters you thought to yourself.
" the fuck you just say to me bitch?" Leah spat walking towards the girl behind pushing you away. You saw Leah swing her fist at the girl and the other girl pulling her hair before someone pulled you into the elevator. You yelped as the doors shut. You turned around to see Sarah.
" it's better to not be there while their fighting or you'll get framed as a participant, which is pretty fucked up if you ask me" she chuckled. You liked Sarah, she was brunette with beautiful green eyes, perfect lashes, good eyebrows, pump lips and she was around 40. You wanted to look like her when you get to her age. She was absolutely breath taking. She was also very kind. You'd say kinder than Elizabeth.
"Does the lady punishes them?" You asked noticing how she's dressed in her usual attire.
" no, but the guards does, their like the police around here. You get into a fight and your thrown into the 'dark room' for 48 hours, no food, no water and no light. The lady says it helps them think about their actions" Sarah said chuckling as she fixed her hair.
Of course alcina wants everyone to think about their bad actions but what about hers. She's trying to play goodie too shoes and she murders people. And has the audacity to tell people to 'think about their actions'. She has to be a maniac.
" so why aren't you dressed like us?" You asked her.
"I can handle the cold darling, unlike some people" she responded, mumbling the last 3 words. You wanted to ask her what she means but another question crosses your curious mind.
"How long have you been working here?" You asked turning back to face her. You could see that the question brought up memories for her, and not the best ones.
" quite some time.... for as long as i can remember honestly" she said coldly, looking down at the floor.
" I'm sorry, if I overstepped " you said softly, she looked at you quickly and shook her head reassuring you it's ok. She heard the way your voice cracked, she knew there was something else bothering you. She gently placed her hand on the lower part of your back, rubbing it slightly.
" don't pay Leah any mind y/n, she's like this with every newbie. As crazy as it sounds she's actually looking out for you. Making sure you don't slip up more than you need too. We've all seen some fucked up shit go on in here, and hate if it happened to you too" she spoke Truthfully, smiling. But it didn't reach her eyes.
You couldn't help the questions from coming. You had to know.
"Did lady dimitrescu killed your parents? Lover, friend maybe?" You asked narrowing your eyes. You can see that the question caught Sarah off guard, it stabbed her brutally, your question hit her like a Breck wall. And in her reaction you found your answer, though you didn't know which it was, but you knew lady dimitrescu killed someone she loved more than herself and the wound most definitely still hurt.
Sarah tried her best to keep her tears at bay, flash backs were all she saw now. She wasn't mad at you, but at no one. What happened was a long time ago and it was an accident.
"I'm sorry, i- I definitely overstepped now, I'm s-" she cut you off by caressing your cheek.
"Lady dimitrescu is a good lady y/n... despite all the fucked up things she's done and still do in the history of the universe... she's a kind heart woman, never forget that" Sarah spoke, voice breaking. The elevator ding and the doors opened to the hall of lady dimitrescus private headquarters.
You stepped out and looked back at Sarah who had a soft smile on her face.
" she's good" she whispered before the doors closed again. You couldn't help but stand there. Frozen. This was all so confusing. Did lady dimitrescu kill every maids lover? Parents?...And even if she did they still have the heart to work for her?. Are theses people nuts you thought to yourself. How can she be good. After all thoses lives she took. She's still good. Why.
There's so much back story to everything here at the dimitrescu castle and you wanted to know everything. Even if it's too painful to handle. Because what goods does alcina do that covers all of her bads. You realized you've been standing in the same spot for 5 minutes now and decided to head to the lady's study.
On the door laid a gold plate. Countess Alcina dimitrescu. Above had four torches and the dimitrescu coat of arms in sliver.
"She's a good woman" echoed in your head over and over again. You missed the lady's voice when she said enter that you just pushed the door and go in. Praying that she said to enter. As you entered the heat radiating from the room hit your body.
The lady's study was beautiful. Everything was made of fine gold or perfect chiped wood. Her study screamed royalty or even old money vibes.
Your eyes flicked around the room, admiring everything. How it's all well put together and neat. You didn't notice the lady's preying eyes on you. She found your admiration intriguing and adorable. You were different from the rest maids. No maid as ever looked at her office the way you do. She was curious about you, and she was willing to take her time and find out more about you.
" tell me when your finish draga" she spoke. You immediately snapped out of your trance and looked over at her. She was looking through papers and now and then looking up at her computer, her reading glasses on the bridge if her nose and the blue light from, the computer creating a beautiful hue on her face. She looked eternal. You traced back to her words, "tell me when your finish draga". Her voice was so soft and elegant.
How was she not mad at you for wasting her time? You took a seat in a chair infront of her desk and looked at her carefully.
" you requested my presence, my lady. You wished to speak with me?" You asked, watching as she looked up but not to look at you but at her computer. Last night she only wanted to look at you and now she refuses to look at anything that has you in it.
The silence began to get awkward. She could feel the nervousness radiating off you and your heart beat increasing by the second. She finally decides to look up at you. Staring into your soul over her reading glasses. You were fidgeting with your coat and bouncing your leg, you mouth slightly agape letting out cold air.
" do I scary you y/n?" She asked, sliding her chair out from her desk and clasping her hands together. You looked up at her to see her already looking at you. She wanted to know everything about you but she kept her questions at bay. She regrets not getting a record book from you when you signed up for the job. She has record books for everyone except for you. Maybe if her younger brother Karl didn't play with her head the day you sighed up she would now know alittle bit about you. How she hated Karl more now...
" Your a very.... your one of a kind my lady. Your not very different from us humans.... I think what do makes you different though is very fascinating.... it makes you special and with that specialty my lady comes great fear from others because we know what your capable of" you spoke bravely. You didn't know where you found the words to answer her question. You just spoke from your heart and you were happy.
" so no my lady I'm not scared of you..... I'm sacred of the power you hold. There's a different...." You spoke again. Alcina's mouth opened to say something but she quickly closed it. Processing the spectacular answer you just gaved her. The more she looked at you the more curious she became. Why aren't you like the other maids. What makes you different. It surely isn't your bravery..... no it's something more.
You were like gold in her eyes. Treasure. A valuable asset in her life now. No maid as every answer her question like that. It was always no my lady although they're clearly lying or yes my lady. No one has every gaved a answer like yours. In you she found hope. You were special.
After looking at you for some time she spoke up.
" Well then, today I need you to grab some wood from the forest. It's going to be cold tonight and unlike some, others can't handle it" she spoke firmly. She was the second person to say that to you. Who were they referring to you really had no idea.
" with all due respect my lady I'm new I don't know much as yet do you really think that's the best idea" you said slightly leaning over her desk. Lady dimitrescu raised her eyebrow and narrowed her eyes at you. She slowly stood from her chair and leaned close to your face, towering over you. Your lips not even centimeters away from touching. You couldn't help your eyes when they flicked down to her cleavage.
She took your jaw into her hand and raised your face up, making you look into her eyes. Her pupils were dilated and there was some dark mystery in them. You've never been this close up to her. Looking into her eyes was like looking at the ocean. It was pure but dangerous. How the fuck is she so pure and she kills innocent people.
" don't be smart mouth with me little girl. I admire you. But your smart right? You'll figure it out" she spoke dominantly eyes darting down to your lips. They stayed there for a while before grazing back at your eyes. She just met you yet she felt herself wanting to say 'I love you'. love was a word she used to say years ago. Words that held strong feelings. But since life dropped her like a sack of potatoes she no longer found hope in thoses words.
She would only say them to her daughters. But deep down she didn't even know if she meant them. She was broken for so long, been in darkness for over centuries. And now you stepped into her castle. Into her life. She was beginning to see light.
And you couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She wasn't the monster everyone said she was. No she's a mother. Someone who taught their life was worth more, going to be more. Before the rain of darkness started and never ended.
She saw sympathy and pity in your eyes. She saw..... love? She let go of your jaw and proceeded back to her seat. She placed her reading glasses back on her face and went back to her papers and computer.
" when you returned, inform me so I know you didn't die. Oh and close the door on your way out" she spoke coldly. You heart whinced at the tone of voice. You wished she could stop shouting people out. You looked at her one last time. She wasn't helpless at all.
You sighed as you left and close the door behind you. Alcina let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding and closed her eyes for a moment. Rubbing her temple.
You walked back down the alley way and into the elevator. While the doors were closing you saw a fly come out the the peak hole of the lady's office. You narrow your eyes at it. Looking at how it flew wildy. Soon it flew right up to the door right before it was going to close and you heard"BOO" you screamed and it laughed. The fly literally laughed.
" CASSANDRA!" You heard alcinas voice yell and the fly quickly turned into a girl. Her daughter. You looked at her in awe. She smirked at you before turning into a fly again and disappeared. The doors shut and the elevator started to move.
~
You grab an axe from the storage unit and open the door to go outside.
" wow where are you going princess, there's a snow storm passing. The wind will blow you away" spoke a voice from behind you. You turned around to see the same girl from earlier who defended you against Leah. She looked good. Like she never got into a fight.
You smiled softly at her.
" aren't you supposed to be in the 'dark room?" You asked and she chuckled slowly making her way towards you. She gently placed her hand on your shoulder, looking at you intensely while biting her lip.
" I'm emily by the way, you must be y/n" she spoke giving you her hand to shake. You gladly took it and shook it.
" because of the storm tonight everyone needs to be on duty to protect the girls so they can't have anyone in dark room" she said Slightly shivering as the wind blew inside. You quickly closed it and raised an eyebrow.
" who girls?" You asked Dumbly every maid and worker was a female but you needed to know exactly who she was referring to.
" the lady's daughters. They can't survive in the cold, hence the reason why there're always in their rooms. It has to be really hot for them or they'll die. Think of it as a allergy. That's why the lady is so freaked out. They say she's been trying to work on a cure for them for years but mother miranda stopped it, said she didn't care. But hey you didn't hear this from me ok?" She said looking at you seriously. This was one background story unlocked and you were itching to find out more.
"Yeah of course I mean I'm no snitch. Who's mother miranda?" You asked and emily shush you and pulled you into a little corner.
" she's just a random bitch who the black god blessed with very powerful powers and rules the village. I heard she's heartless. She kills for fun. Also she's very close with the lady, disrespect the lady you disrespect her. No bad deeds goes unpunished by her. She's not as friendly as alcina trust me. But as time goes by you'll find out more." She whispered.
You were completely stunned by who this miranda woman was. You never heard of her before. And now you heard who she was, you couldn't help but think if lady dimitrescu was the person you saw kill your friends. You felt so confused. You didn't even notice that emily was still talking.
" Hello? Earth to y/n. I asked where your going?" She asked looking at you weirdly, you were so lost in thought.
" I gotta go, um to get wood for the fireplaces, I'll be back" you said re-opening the doors to go outside.
" ok, don't let the lycans bite" she chuckled, closing the door behind you. You turned around quickly. Don't let the what bite?. You sighed as you opened the fence gate and walked out into the forest. You picked up some wood that fell from the weight of the snow and threw them into the barrel.
You saw someone running towards your direction in the distance and you narrowed your eyes.
" what the fuck?" You whispered, your teeth slightly chattering from the cold. As the figure came a little closer you saw that it looked like a zombie. You let out a very loud high pitched scream making the creature smile wickly and apparently run faster. You kept screaming and started to run quickly pushing the barrel with you.
You slipped and fell hitting your head hard against a wood. Your world started to spin, you couldn't even register the pain throbbing through your head but you knew it was there. You heard the creature get closer and closer and then you blacked out.
You woke up and quickly stood up. The whiplash making your cry out softly in pain. You looked around and saw no one. The barrel still had the wood. You groaned as you quickly walked back to the castle. You almost died. Your tried to remember what happened. All you could recall was seeing a zombie, falling and alcina being the last word to leave your lips, only person on your mind.
You opened the gate and locked it behind you, same with the door. The guards took the barrel of wood from you and you slowly walked up the stairs. Holding the back of your head. The world seemed blurred and loud. Like it was all just background noise.
" hey newbie, the lady wishes to see you" shouted a maid from the library door. You whimpered as her tone of voice made your head hurt more.
You pressed the elevator door button and got in. When you arrived in the hallway again you took your time and walked towards the big fancy wood door.
Your head finally feeling a bit better. As you approached the door you heard soft cries. You carefully stood aside and peaked through the space that was open. There was alcina sitting in her couch next to the window with her daughter. It wasn't Daniela, the girl you saw on the first day, or Cassandra the one who scared you.
This one looked more humble, more settled atleast you thought so. She had short blonde hair with black in the roots and she was wearing a black dress with a hoodie coat over it. Black lipstick to match and weird jewelry choice. She was all cradled up in alcinas arms crying.
" I d-don't wanna die m-mommy, I'm c-cold" she mumbled, alcina kissed her forehead gently she started to slightly shake her. She started singing a lullaby to her in Romanian while running her hands through her hair. She wiped her tears and lifted her chin.
" it's gonna be ok draga mea. I sent someone to get you and your sisters woods for the night. You won't die" she whispered a tear falling from her eye. You've never once seen alcina this.... vulnerable. Calm and kind. Under all that cruel act, cold heart she only just a mother..... a mother who cared. A mother who loved. A mother who provides. A mother who protects. She wasn't a monster. She's human. Maybe not like the rest of us, but she just like us. Because she has feelings....
Bela turned into flies and disappeared. Alcina cleared her throat and returned to sit behind her desk.
" you can enter draga" she shouted. You walked in and closed the door. You walked up to her desk and sat.
" how is your head injury?" She asked looking at you gently. She really does care.
" how did you know?" You asked. Shifting uncomfortably, her gaze was giving you goosebumps.
" I heard you heartbeat draga mea, I heard your scream, I heard when your heart beat went calm again. And I knew. I just knew you got hurt." She spoke softly.
" what are thoses things out there" you asked glancing at the window and back at her. She chuckled. It sounded so beautiful and relaxing.
" that doesn't concern you for right now, you won't be in they're reached" she spoke, looking over at her computer.
" Well it inflicted harm to my safety so i have every right to know" you spoke, your tone slightly high and powering.
Alcina looked at you shunned by your backlash but yet no anger formed in her towards you.
"You may leave" she spoke softly, picking up her pen she started to flick through papers. Why was she so nice to you.
" you know I was the one who got away" you whispered getting up to leave. Alcinas eyes went dark. She began to have flash backs. She whispered a small 'oh' and looked at you sorrowful. She regretted it.
" y/n-" she tried to call out but you were already gone. You didn't needed her apology, some how you already forgaved her. Now it's gonna take alot of convincing to make your mom cancel the plan.
You returned to your room and went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.....

I have to ask you, considering my own pro jedi views, why do people think the sith are even better
If the Jedi are miserable without a romantic relationship
Then the sith are downright husks of their former selves
They regularly kill their loved ones in blind anger after all
And don’t get me started on darth marr and malgus they are outliers of the sith empire
Even the malgus was like “ better kill my wife because I would be seen weak if I’m shown to love her and cannot protect her.”, like that’s more toxic
You cannot tell me that the sith are better people if they managed to make an outlier of their order and empire think that
I'm gonna be 100% honest with you, I was half asleep when I read this yesterday and I thought you asked me "why do you think the Sith are better?" and I was so confused. Then I woke up a little more, re-read this, made breakfast, and then promptly forgot about responding 😭
so yeah, sorry for the hold up lmao
----------
To be honest, I think people think this because the Sith are the opposite of the Jedi---so, when people hate the Jedi and make up shit about how they "aren't allowed to have emotions" or whatever, they view the Sith as good and emotionally healthy and happy just because they're the opposite of the Jedi and not really because of anything we're actually shown about the Sith.
They make up a fake version of the Jedi in their heads, using terrible takes and bad-faith arguments and fanon headcanons, then hear "the Sith are opposite of the Jedi" and proceed to make up a fake version of the Sith in their heads, using straight-up delusion and more fanon headcanons, to be "the REAL good guys" in this ridiculous daydream ooc roleplay bullshit they have going on.
I think it's fucking insane, though, considering that literally nothing in canon shows us that---in fact, it's exactly the opposite.
Literally every Sith we're shown, save for like...maybe Palpatine, is fucking miserable. They're hateful and angry and generally have had their lives completely fucked up---they're not happy in the slightest, let alone happier than the Jedi.
And you're absolutely right, Sith are husks of themselves, because that's what the Dark Side does---it twists you and brings out your worst traits and enables your worst impulses until you're nothing but a cold hateful shell of your former self. That's the whole point.
You're also very right about the whole Malgus thing because, if even the Sith outliers are killing their loved ones, I have my doubts about the Sith being happier and/or "being allowed to love while the repressed, cold Jedi are forced to not love anyone" (which is like...the main argument I've seen about this).
I don't have the comic panel on hand, but there's even a comic where some Sith lord (I think it might've been Palpatine) says that there's no place for love/empathy/etc. in a Sith.
Meanwhile we get quote upon quote about how the Jedi are "weak" because of their compassion, how they care for the innocent, how the Jedi will literally put themselves at risk just to help people because that's who the Jedi are, etc. etc.
So yeah, I have no idea where this whole narrative of "the Sith are better than the Jedi/allowed to love while the Jedi aren't/they're happier than the Jedi/etc." has gotten so popular---it's literally all nonsensical bullshit and everyone who genuinely believes this is just fucking delusional at this point.

so @thirteens-lucky-tardis had a lovely headcanon about Rocket just absolutely entranced by lava lamps. And I love it and it made me think like, take a moment to just breathe, or relax for a second or something? Just sit here and look at this frickin’ lamp thing. Idk it was such a nice visual I thought I’d bring it up to you ☺️
i went hunting for this but couldn't find it! i need to read it o(╥﹏╥)o
it makes complete sense. i'm just imagining you notice how much he likes yours - maybe you come home one day and you can't find him. he's normally clanking around with some invention or another - dismantling your toaster or building a new gun. muttering to himself, or humming one of those old songs. but today your apartment is silent, and if it weren't for the runabout still parked on the roof like a goddamn sleigh, you'd think he'd gone right back up into the stars.
you find him in your room, staring at the lava lamp that he must've turned on at some point. he's transfixed. it's the first time you've seen him still and quiet in your entire time of knowing him.
"are you okay?" you ask him cautiously.
he doesn't look away - just reaches out with one clawed hand and beckons you. "here-" he says, gesturing for you to come over. "-get over here. look at this weird frickin' thing."
a little chuckle huffs its way up out of your lungs, a breath like the beat of a small bird's wing. you come and perch next to him on the bed. i like to think you both lose time like this: breath slowing, hearts slowing, eyes growing heavy. At some point, he shifts and curls into a ball next to you, a compact bundle of fur pressing warmth into your thigh and flank. He rests his chin on your knee, eyes following the soft floats of wax, reflecting the slow-moving light.
i imagine you both end up dozing off, actually. much-needed naps for the two of you.
of course rocket remains entranced in the coming days and eventually - maybe for winter holidays, or as a parting gift - you give him a package to take with him back to knowhere. two lava lamps: one to keep, you tell him, and one to take apart.
i imagine he comes back to visit you often. you're basically best frickin friends - how could he stay away? no matter how much he hates this rotten mudball, you're here, and that makes it a little bit of a home. on one visit - months later; maybe a year - he finally convinces you to join him. he's still trying to get you to move permanently out to knowhere so you can hang out whenever he's not, like, saving the galaxy - but for now, he just wants you to see how it is. a little vacation, he tells you.
he's sure you'll fall in love.
and you do. the streets, the people, the life. cosmo and kraglin and nebula. drax and the kids. yaro root is surprisingly delicious, and they put it in everything. the streets are built on music. string-lights spangle the streets when the artificial sun sets, and the milky fizzes are way more delicious than they'd sounded when rocket had described them.
and those aren't even the best parts.
the best part is when you head in to rocket's place later that night, after meeting everyone and sharing food and playing card games and listening to music and talking for the majority of the night. though rocket has a few other places he think you might like to actually live if he's successful in persuading you to stay, he'd planned on you crashing at his place for the duration of your visit. you both stumble in the shadowy doors - a little buzzy out of pure exhaustion and happiness.
and then he turns on the lights.
rocket doesn't think about it - doesn't even realize he hadn't already told you about it. but the dark room slowly blooms into a soft, moon-pale glow, all the light emanating from dozens on dozens of smooth, luminous columns.
rocket's whole apartment is jeweled with lava lamps.
they're set into shelves lining the space above his workbench. there's a massive pillar of soft light shining next to his bed - his real bed, mattress and everything, because he knew you were comin' and though he'd never say it, your comfort is important to him. there are lamps set into the walls, into the corners. a hundred strange, alien light-forms, plucked from planet earth like flowers and improved: made safer, made softer, made more hypnotic and soothing.
inadvertently, from millions of lightyears away, you've touched this place. you've helped turn his shell of a living space into a home for him - into a haven.
a soft bed.
blankets and pillows.
the beautiful living light of countless shimmering columns, welcoming him into something close to peacefulness, something close to rest.
the two of you stay up late that night: sprawled on the soft, cozy mattress, bundled up in blankets. talking, warming the air with your words and your breaths and your quiet laughs. you both watch the shifting shadows on the walls and the swimming shapes of the wax, as slow-moving as moon-jellies, and just as lovely. your eyelashes and his both grow heavier and heavier, softer and softer, until they rest, finally, feather-light on your cheeks.
and eventually, wrapped in these plush shadows and quilts and the quiet glow, you both fall asleep.

Community Building Secrets
A couple weeks ago the SSC reddit had a discussion "If people want a community so much why aren't we creating it?" I found it really odd since it comes from a place of "here is why community building doesn't happen" and you can tell that in the tone of the comments.
But obviously communities are being made, every day. (There is a secondary problem which is that all communities have some problems - drama, eventual collapse, inequitable burdens, exclusivity, cults of personality, problematic members, etc - but they do EXIST, and presumably people want them despite knowing that problems of some form are likely if not inevitable.) It would be like a reddit thread on "why does no one date" despite, you know, a lot of people dating out there.
So a more legit question would be "why are our community efforts not succeeding? What is the difference between our efforts and the communities that are made."
I don't have nearly all the answers to all their questions, but reading it and thinking on the topic let me crystalize some thoughts I've had for a long time. Thoughts that are very important about how communities start, and how they go forward. I'll put them below the fold.
The Golden and Iron Laws of Communities
The Golden Law of Communities is that you need something shiny to start the kernel of any community. It is nominally the thing the community is "about", but even when it's not explicitly that, it's still the hook that gets people interested.
It could be "we have the word of God and this is how to avoid Hell." It could be "we are all descended from this sacred bloodline." It could be "Sharon hosts dinners and her husband is an executive chef so they are amazing." It could be "this famous blogger is part of the community and you'll get to meet them." It could be "we talk about and run alternative theater." It could be "there are lots of sexy young people and who knows what might happen." It could be drugs, going to water parks, arguing about charities, talking about politics, a favorite scifi author, watching black and white movies, speedrunning videogames, a particularly charismatic founder of the group, or any damn thing.
But you can't just say "hey everyone, let's have weekly dinners and help each other babysit or play boardgames, because community is nice." You have to advertise (even if just by word of mouth) a short idea that motivates people to want to get in on that.
Got that? Can you admit that dark truth? Okay we can move onto the second law.
The Iron Law of Communities is that the thing the community is about doesn't matter.
Two seconds after you have enough people in your group to begin enjoying themselves, someone will ask if they can invite their friend "who is totally cool but aren't really into X" where X is the thing in the Golden Law. Or someone will invite the people in the community to a completely generic event that has nothing to do with X - because they're cool people and you're enjoying hanging out.
And that's... fine? Like you might say yes or no to the request, but either way it will start happening, and your group will do the same things and have the same type of people and same discussions as every other group. Your identity that separates you from other people will dissolve away slowly. (In very official institutions, this will take the form of adjacent informal activities.) Congratulations, you have now made a Community with the potlucks and babysitting share-schedules and networking and incestuous dating drama.
There are of course, communities that fight against the Iron Law harder than others, but it just doesn't really matter. They're just as likely to wither and die as any community eventually, and if they had admitted those adjacent people that wouldn't hasten that day. Most of the communities you see have plenty of "members who don't care about X, are just here for the people/stuff."
If everyone was coming to the events just to see some famous blogger or sparkling charismatic leader, they would soon find out they get very little face time with that person, but there are other people around, and they're fun, and they'll start coming back for those other people and the group activities.
There's a running joke that no matter WHAT your Discord server is about, eventually they'll make a #politics channel, then an #nsfw channel, then a #nsfw-hardcore channel, etc etc. And that's where most of the chatter will take place in, eventually.

I'm a loser who both spends too much time playing gacha games and loves to hear myself talk, so here's another game review style post, this time covering my first day playing Break My Case. This time I'm not even being a little hater! I'm a lover! I'm cringe! I'm free! I love you Coly! I love you ikemen gacha games!!!!!!!
Break My Case is a new puzzle-music-adventure mobile game from Coly, the developers behind Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku and On Air. More relevant to BMC/BreMai is their game Stand My Heroes, with which it shares a writer, some gameplay elements, and of course a naming convention. Coly has developed a bit of a cult following for their unique status in the Japanese mobile gaming world: they're a company that was founded by women and hires women to make games for women. They put a lot of soul into their games. From the start, BMC is no different!
Tumblr media
"Could you have pulled a clean version of this image from the internet so it didn't have all the game junk" no. it's my tumblr and you get my screenshots.
I (with help from friends) overviewed the initial Break My Case announcement back when it dropped. You can read that here! I said in that post that I thought a "dark rhythm game" would be a really cool direction for the game… and that's more or less what we got! GO ME!!!!!
First: the game's presentation is fantastic. Super slick graphical design and just amazing atmosphere. The sound design of this game is incredible. Genuinely. Really, really, good. All the music is amazing—I'm not knowledgeable enough to say anything other than "IT SLAPS!", but it totally does slap. The illustrations for the cards are all wonderfully atmospheric in and of themselves, and are just a delight to look at on the homescreen with its chill background music. Even just navigating menus is a sleek, seamless experience. The live2d is well-done, although it clashes a tad with the art style for a bit of an uncanny look at times.
Tumblr media
The atmosphere! The atmospheeeeeeere!!!
Of course, the draw to this game is the characters and story, so let's jump into that. I'll admit right now that I read the story through a machine translation—I have aaaalmost enough Japanese knowledge to fill in the gaps, especially since the story is fully voiced, but I'm definitely not getting the full nuance of the story that someone fluent in Japanese is going to get. THAT SAID, after completing the prologue, I was definitely intrigued enough that I want to continue slogging through the MTL just to read more! There's a great setup, centered around the bar Aporia and its three modes—a daytime cafe, a nighttime members-only bar, and, secretly, a "fixer" service who'll help anyone with any problem. Our main character, a woman who was just forced to quit her job at a corrupt company, gets hired to replace Aporia's eccentric owner while he goes on a who-knows-how-long vacation. The owner also has the role of "tail"—as in, the tail a lizard sheds to avoid being eaten. If anything in the fixer service goes wrong, it's the owner who takes the fall and the blame. This hasn't come to mean much in practice yet in the (quite short) prologue, but it's a fascinating setup. The story promises to touch on themes of the threads that weave our lives together, how small meetings can lead to massive life changes, and whether any human being is truly replaceable, even in our modern corporate world where people are treated like cogs in a machine. According to a staff interview, there are a handful of references to Stand My Heroes in BreMai, but the games' settings aren't otherwise closely linked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rough translation in alt text. The Aporia manager Ai may be the most mysterious, intimidating character, but he also beefs with a parrot the first time you meet him, so...
All the characters are staff at Aporia with various unique roles and background. The prologue just gives you a little bit of each of them, but everyone does show up, and they all have interesting dynamics with each other already. Ai, the stern manager, has some history with the MC that he refuses to divulge, and goes so far as to force psychologist Riku to agree to not look into it. The range of relationships among the staff run the gamut from the calm and mature friendship between fortune teller Kiho and art teacher Kyoya, to the unfaltering dedication of Yu to his ex-mafioso savior Tomose, to the ridiculous Takeru and Soyogu who spend their first appearance waking up after having gotten black-out drunk together the night before. My favorite dynamic of all so far is that of Kou and Mao—Kou is a playboy who insists he's not a playboy, and is introduced evading a woman by… asking the icy Mao to pretend to be his boyfriend so that she thinks he's taken and gay and leaves him alone. Which Mao exasperatedly agrees to, telling Kou that he's used up his allotment for this month which ohmygod how often does Kou do this. Kou if you're asking this guy to pretend to be your gay lover so often he gives you a monthly limit I think you might just have to admit you want him to actually be your gay lover, Kou, oh my god—

Rough TL in alt text. Kou is letting the implication do all the heavy lifting here. He technically never said he was dating Mao. Technically.

On to the gameplay. There's gameplay! Unique gameplay! Good unique gameplay! Oh my god, uncharted joseimuke territory! The main gameplay mode is a match-3 puzzle game with rhythm elements. As in other rhythm games, each song in the game is its own level, more or less. (Each character has two unique songs, and three songs shared with the other members of their unit.) You set up a team with cards you've collected from the gacha, which determine your power level and special skills. The "leader" of the team has to be the character whose level you've selected. The puzzle gameplay is a tile-swapping match 3—think bejeweled or candy crush—but the tiles you've matched are only cleared once a bar sliding across the screen hits them, clearing them in tune with the song. Everything cleared in a single swipe of the bar ups the combo counter. There's also a life system, where if the bar slides across the screen without clearing a single match, you lose a life… But the bar moves pretty slow. You're not likely to game over or even lose a single life any time soon. There are more difficult versions of the levels I've yet to unlock, so I'm sure the life meter becomes relevant then. There's also "auto" and "loop" features if you want to grind a level over and over for exp and items, but, of course, the computer can't score as high as you playing it yourself.
And, really, it's fun to play, so why would you want to!? The sound of matches clearing with the music is so satisfying and really makes you want to combo as high as possible. Once you've matched some tiles, you can't move them again, nor use them in a second match (eg, in a cross shape), so if you want to maximize your combo and make as many matches as possible with what's on the board, you have to think ahead about which matches you're going to make. The bar slowly crossing the screen adds a visual timed element that gives some urgency to putting all the matches together. It definitely feels like a game you can pick up an instinct for over time, which is super fun.
All in all, a really solid, enjoyable little puzzle game. It would be fun to play even without the promise of anime boys. Stand My Heroes is also a match-3, for the record, which is what really cements the two games as being part of the same series.
Tumblr media
Admittedly, the anime boy staring at you while you play musical candy crush is a little disconcerting.
The second gameplay mode is "Snap'n Spin", a… gameplay-lite mode that just puts chibi characters in random strange situations and lets you take pictures of them. The mode is explained to be a video game within the world of BreMai, so it's not even trying to be realistic or relevant to anything else in the game. Once you take your pokemon snaps of the boys, they get a fun little caption. You can save up to 40 pictures in your album. Other than being cute, the main way this mode interfaces with the rest of the game is that it's the primary way to unlock card stories for the cards you pulled in gacha.
This gameplay mode is... cute? I guess? It being so disconnected from the style and aesthetics of the entire rest of the game felt weird. The chibis are adorable, so it has that going for it. And I do like some of the captions you get on the photos afterwards. My favorite were the scenes you catch of a character drinking, and then the caption reveals their current favorite drink. That's a delightful detail for a game set in a bar. Mostly, though, this mode left me wondering "why?" ...And I imagine the answer is something like "because merchandisable chibi characters are a requirement for joseimuke games." This mode could've been anything so long as these cute, starry little dudes were in it.
Tumblr media
Urara here hated the drink and the caption revealed that, lately, his favorite thing is sparkling water. He's the youngest character in the cast, so I guess he hasn't grown into booze yet...
One last feature I want to mention is the jukebox. Like many games, BreMai has a music player that lets you listen to tracks from the game… But its music player is, genuinely, a fully-featured music player app with shuffle, repeat, lyric displays, and even background play that works when you're in another app or your phone is off. What! Wild! When I first learned a few days ago that BreMai had a built-in player for its BGM tracks, my first thought was "Well, what's stopping someone from downloading the game just to use the music player and never spending a cent on it? Wouldn't you rather have the songs on spotify so you at least get a pittance of ad revenue, in that case? It's more than nothing."
But having played the game now, I see what they did to prevent that, lol. You don't unlock the songs in the jukebox until you get an SS score on the song's level. Which, I mean, that's normal rhythm game stuff, of course. Can't fault that decision. But, as in other gacha rhythm games, your score in a level depends on the power of your team of cards, and the cards you get from the initial handful of pulls aren't gonna get you anywhere near an SS score without significant investment. So you're either buying in-game currency to buy upgrade items, more gacha pulls, or both. Of course, you can also put a bunch of time into grinding for upgrade items—they drop from levels. Gacha currency is harder to come by. So you're not getting songs in the player without actually playing the game lmfao. The character solo songs in particular (the ones with vocals rather than just instrumentals) also require you to build up rapport with that character—the game calls it "Nice". You build up Nice with them by playing their other songs and using their cards in levels. It takes 1000 Nice on a character to unlock their song. In my first day of playing, I was able to get one character to about 250 Nice, another to 200, and a handful more with a few points, so it builds at an okay pace. There's ways to pay to speed up the grinding for Nice and for upgrade items with things like level skip tickets. So, basically: you're not getting that music player to a useful state without investing either money or time, lmao. Is paying-or-grinding to get cool music you can listen to while not playing the game more "worth it" than the usual freemium game goals of better units, new in-game outfits, or prettier card illustrations? ...Honestly, maybe it is? It's novel, at least.
Tumblr media
All gacha rhythm games have the same card select screen, don't they. These were my cards' levels after my first day of play, and you can see they didn't quite reach a suggested score of "A", much less the maximum "SS".
But I do want to stress, the monetization is, for the most part, pretty easy to ignore. Nothing in-your-face. The button to go to the shop screen is a different color, but it's not flashing with an eternal indicator, it's not popping up at every second, it's just sitting there alongside all the other menu buttons. The game isn't shoving timers in your face at all times—there's a stamina meter, which is mildly annoying, but you get ten plays when it's full, and if you're just playing casually you're probably not going to want to play the puzzle game over and over enough to fully deplete that. I know the bar is on the damn floor here but Tokyo Debunker seriously made me realize how bad it can be with mobile game monetization. BreMai is freemium, yeah, but as far as dark patterns go, it's not egregiously bad.
So, the verdict: if you're a joseimuke game fan and aren't afraid to play a game that probably won't get an English port and doesn't even have a fan translation yet (which I realize is already counting out 99.99% of people), definitely give this one a try. See if you like the gameplay—it really is worth trying—and do check out the story if you've got the ability. Or just look at the pretty anime boys.

What are your thoughts on the Soft Wars fic series? Personally I hate the take that the clones love Anakin and Ahsoka better than the rest of the Jedi.
I've actually given some of my thoughts on this series in a previous post I made here.
I'll put a quick TL;DR on those thoughts in this post, and then put some new ones under the cut to address your specific question.
All in all, Soft Wars is exactly what it says it is. It’s soft. It’s soft towards Anakin, it’s soft towards the clones, it’s soft towards the war and the worldbuilding. It’s definitely worth a read just for the way it handles the clone worldbuilding and the clear impact it has had on the way the clones have been written in fic ever since. At this point, I don’t regret reading it but I also don’t go back to it very often anymore and there’s a reason I don't rec Soft Wars for pro-Jedi fic recs when people ask. Soft Wars is not what I would consider fully Pro-Jedi but nor is it anywhere near virulently anti-Jedi and it has some really neat writing for the clones while obviously being really pro-Anakin Skywalker to the point of smoothing out most of his more uncomfortable flaws to make him a more sympathetic and likable character.
To address your specific complaint about the clones loving Anakin and Ahsoka better than the rest of the Jedi, it's fairly clear to me that the author has a soft spot for Anakin and the rest of the fic is sort-of written around that in many ways. The majority of the focus of Soft Wars IS on the clones themselves, and their relationships to each other rather than their relationships to Anakin and Ahsoka specifically, but the big fix-it of the entire thing is that the clones save Anakin from the dark side and allow him to truly be himself. Which definitely ignores that Anakin was a full-blown fascist at this point, not to mention a complete racist (at least against the Tuskens), and arguably sexist as well as a sexual predator.
This is kind-of what I was referring to when I mentioned in the previous post I made about this that the author "smoothes out" Anakin's flaws to make him more sympathetic and likable. Soft Wars is by no means the only place this happens in fics, Anakin OFTEN has to get smoothed out in fix-it fics where he's allowed to live and just get a happy marriage with 2.5 kids and a white picket fence with Padme.
Soft Wars Anakin is... not really canon Anakin. He's got hints of canon Anakin, sure, but he's a LOT better of a person than canon Anakin was at this point in the story. The author had a soft spot for Anakin and wrote an entire epic around Anakin being saved by the clones, so you have to sort-of view Soft Wars from that perspective. If you are someone who doesn't like Anakin much and prefers a more realistic take on Anakin WITH all of his flaws at this point in his life, Soft Wars isn't going to give it to you. I find myself at a place these days where it can be really hard to read fics where Anakin is portrayed REALLY positively and without a lot of his canon flaws, especially with regards to the clones.
If you want more fics where the clones have good relationships with Jedi that AREN'T Anakin (or Ahsoka or even Obi-Wan), please check out blackkat's fics on AO3! A lot of them feature more niche Jedi or just focus on Jedi that tend to go more ignored in popular fandom. I've absolutely gained a love for a few Jedi characters that I'm not even sure I KNEW before I started reading these fics as well as gained several new ships! They're 100% Jedi-friendly, and they never shy away from the reality of who Anakin is and what he's done.
And if you want a series that focuses on the clones more and still gives them a pretty soft ending WITHOUT glorifying Anakin or infantilizing the Jedi, please check out the Reconstruction Corps AU by cacodaemonia (et al). Caco is an INCREDIBLE artist, so the series is worth taking a look at for the art alone, but the writing is wonderful, too, and is one of the few places where I've seen someone explore clone culture without just re-appropriating Mando culture, which is really awesome!

i really like your writing advice, especially around repression and emotions!💗 do you have any tips for writing sexy stuff?🫠
YAY I'm glad you liked it😊 I'm putting the whole thing under a cut this time because uhhh because I feel like it.
Firstly, writing smut is really really difficult (for me, at least), and what's considered "good" is so sooo subjective--the exact same sentence could be hot to one person and completely cringe to another. There's really no way to make everyone happy, and there's "right" or "wrong" way to write, so just have fun and do what feels right to you!
Second, I think what I said here about emotions and repression also applies to writing about sex--to me, describing what a particular sensation feels like or how someone's body reacts to something makes the story feel more immersive.
Here are some other things I've found helpful:
1. Trying to avoid overly-clinical terms for body parts. I don't want people to feel like they're reading somebody's gynecological health chart instead of smut (that might kill me. actually.) so I don't go for words like "vagina" or god forbid "mons pubis." Personally it's really easy for me to think of words I don't like, and a lot harder to find words I do like, so at this point I just try to get away with not actually giving the genitalia a name at all--I just describe them. Not sure how effective this is, or if people like it, but I'm doing it anyway🤷‍♀️
2. Remembering that it's about the entire body, not just what's going on between the legs. Skin gets extra sensitive, people get flushed, they sweat, their heartbeats accelerate. Adding little details like that make sex scenes both more realistic AND hotter, at least in my opinion. Like I said, everything is subjective, and opinions vary wildly!
3. Keeping track of where the limbs are at all times!! It's really easy to get carried away and accidentally give characters extra hands or make them bend in ways that aren't possible for the majority of humans. I usually pick through sex scenes with a fine-tooth comb several times to catch any stray legs and fingers, and have been known to pace around making various obscene hand gestures until I'm confident that the logistics make sense. Don't worry about it👀
4. Remembering that unless they're total strangers just hooking up for fun, there's going to be some sort of emotion involved. Maybe the characters love each other, maybe they hate each other, maybe they hate themselves, maybe one of them has unrequited feelings and it's tearing them up inside. I think that describing the emotional aspect of sex goes a long way in making things feel realistic without subtracting from the Hotness Factor.
I hope this helps!! And remember that I don't really know anything about anything, I am but a mite living on a grain of sand floating through the big dark universe, so you don't have to listen to me. Also you're the only one who gets to decide if your writing is good💖

WEEKLY TAG WEDNESDAY
Thank you lovely people for tagging me! @energievie and @jrooc <3
---
name: crest
where the heck are ya? on a US coastline
do you believe in love at first sight? Kind of. I think, if two people present themselves honestly, there can be kind of a soft landing of love at first sight. A lot more than we realize is processed by our minds at once, first impressions are very powerful. While I don't really believe one can get that kind of deep well of an everlasting sort of love right at sight, I think you can clock someone and be like "hey, you -- I know I'm going to like you, I want to get to know you," and that I think means something. Sometimes that impression leads somewhere and other times... well. That's life, eh?
do you believe in soulmates? Sort of? I feel like between this question and the last one I'm completely flipped compared to a lot of people lol -- but relationships take work, even someone who seems to understand you organically at every level, you can still let that link fade by neglect. Or even not neglect, you can experience and react to different stimuli and grow apart, especially if you go too long without kind of reconnecting. Like the last question, love at first sight will fizzle if you don't pursue it and try to make it work. Soulmates, to me, aren't written in the stars or whatever, they're not destiny -- they're made out of deciding that with this person, you're going to put in that work. And maybe someone will come around and say "well why do you pick that person? it's because it was fate," but I don't really believe that, because there's a lot of factors as to why, at least personally, I put in work with some people but not with others. There were opportunities to become close with very different people than who I am close with now, but I chose not to. I chose the people I did. It was my active choice. So, yeah, there's a very long winded answer on this little tag question game.
what’s a song you’ve been loving? Habits by Genevieve Stokes
how about a show you’ve been loving? You may have noticed the sudden constant reblogging of Dimension 20, but I've been really into Dropout's D&D campaigns I've watched thus far.
your ultimate OTP: That's a tricky question! I don't really -- I feel like this goes off my soulmate/lafs question but I think you can make anything pretty viable if you develop it right. Maybe Idgie and Ruth from Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)? And actually, probably Gallavich (Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich) from Shameless, because they always come back to each other, and there's something so lovely about that -- and I can't picture either of them truly with someone else.
your comfort book: Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. I haven't read it in a very long time, but I read it so many times when I was a kid that -- it was my teacher's copy -- she just let me have it before I went to the next levels of school.
a fan work you adore (fic, art, manip, etc — tag the creator!): I loved makes a cathedral, him pressing against me by misandrywitch (Shameless (US)) and I also love all I want of the world, coming down by gyzym (Inception (2010)). (I do not know their tumblrs so I can't link them, but I can link to the stories!)
a trope that captures your heart: not really a trope but fanfiction and tumblr have kind of made it into one: "It's rotten work." "not to me, not if it's you," dynamics.
favorite candy: pomegranate filled dark chocolate
dark chocolate or white chocolate? dark. 100%.
romance novels or thrillers? I read lots of things that are thrilling and have romance, but I actually don't really read either of these genres on their own. Probably lean more toward romance novels?
pink or red? I like both. I own more red clothes. I only have one pink shirt.
and finally, spread some love! share words of encouragement, a positive message, or say something kind to yourself — it’s up to you! Happy valentines! Um, it truly is never too late to try. Really. Try that hobby that, yeah, you're going to start off being absolute shit at, but it's still worth trying if it interests you. I'm going to a figure drawing class tonight, and I'm likely going to be absolute trash at it, but that's my valentine's treat to myself. Or, you can try to fix a tattered relationship, you can try to mend it if you want -- I can't guarantee trying will fix it, but you will have tried, and that matters. Even if it's just trying the smallest thing, or an internal thing. It takes a lot of work to try, and I'm rooting for you if the thing you're trying hardest on is just trying to feel better about yourself. And you're never alone if you're trying! Everyone has tried something. Everyone can rejoice in the successful results from a good ol' college try, or they can sympathize with the failure of a try that didn't lead to anything, everyone has been part of that experience, so hopefully that's encouraging if nothing else. <3

TW: R@PE, ABUSE AND DOMESTIC ABUSE AND STOCKHOLM SYNDROME AND TALK ABOUT KINKS. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES.
Why most dark romance is romantised abuse and r@pe;
You cannot completely separate fiction from reality, it is a reflection of your true desires and morals. R@pe, abuse, stalking and kidnapping is not romantic at all in any situation.
First let's start off with haunting Adeline and book like similar. CNC is a valid kink but this book and others like it are a horrible representation, it is straight up sexual assault and Stockholm syndrome.
The author herself (which I have beef with) straight up admitted zade r@pes Adeline. CNC is about communication of boundaries, safe words and creating a safe space with is not represented correctly. CNC can help survivors take control of a situation where control was taken from them in a safe environment with someone they trust.
Haunting Adeline has set CNC representation back with its disgusting amount of popularity and existence. If you honestly think a book that does survivors such an injustice with is misrepresentation has helped with your own experience with sexual assault I truly hope you rethink if it's actually helped you or just put a band-aid on such a deep wound and I really do hope you go to therapy and maybe look into some actual good representation of CNC if CNC is something you think could help you.
Zade is disgusting and not someone you should defend at all.
Now for the romantisation of abuse, kidnapping and overly possessive love interests; most kidnapping in dark romance books that turns into a "romance" is Stockholm syndrome. There is no and or buts about it, it is not cute, romantic or something you should romantises at all. Your gross fantasy is someone's reality. You cannot seperate these sorts of things from your view on it in reality completely.
Fictional desires that you obsess over are not fictional. If it makes you horny or if you think the outcomes of these (mostly women's) situation are at all appealing even in fiction than it is not apart of a fictional want anymore.
A lot of these men in fiction straight up abuse these (again mostly women) in books and it is just abuse and the women in these books are trapped in a horrible situation they put a pink bow on as a defense mechanism. I'm aware these women aren't real but the situations you romantise are lots women's reality.
They're are so many different types of books you can read with the same types of themes such as CNC and enemies to lovers that aren't romantised abuse.
It is not cute, quirky or sweet if you defend and obsess over these types of men. Liking men with red flags whether fictional or not in not cute and is something I recommend therapy for.
Please stop defending men like zade and other characters cause "they're just fictional", I have stated why many times.
Please stop romantising other people's nightmares for a fictional man.

so about cgi movies and remakes now, I've read somewhere that said how re6 og and damnation/degeneration were meant to connect and continue off from each other which begs the question, now that remakes are offering us a completely new and imo better version do you think they'll basically retcon the old stuff? solely because it's very contradictory to the current way of storytelling but also because games aren't really beholden to these movies in the first place. Like they can make re6r tomorrow and it could very well turn out different than the original which will render every previous movie useless.
but also because i just don't get how people look at re2r and re4r and so confidently say yeahh everything connects perfectly with the movies and all the way to 6. I dunno, i only ask because I've always had this thought that the canon is so messed up and inconsistent and that crappy writing from movies does not help but i guess i also shouldn't hope for too much all things considered
i mean yeah the CGI movies were always intended to be part of the main OG canon storyline. it goes 4 -> degeneration -> infinite darkness -> damnation -> RE6
but i've said this before and
i think the point of the remake series is to consolidate the story and put everything in the story actually into the games. RE4make has already started doing this.
RE4make contains lore that wasn't introduced in OG until damnation -- like, that was the point of damnation, to establish that lore.
now that RE4make's already established it, damnation doesn't need to fucking happen in the remake storyline. i think they did that on purpose.
it's the same reason why RE4make included operation javier into the actual storyline. they're not going to remake darkside chronicles, but they wanted that backstory between leon and krauser. so they consolidated everything and put it directly into RE4make (and now possibly CV).
i really think that, by the time the remake series is done, the entire remake storyline will look like this:
0 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> CVX(+OJ DLC) -> 4 -> 5 -> 6
and that will be the entire storyline. there will be no supplemental canon material for remake at all. no revelations games, no umbrella chronicles, no movies, nothing. it will all be in the mainline titles.
i really, really believe that with my whole heart.

This topic is so not talked enough
I've already expressed to sibi in an ask before how I admire her writing aftercare and thoroughly making sure the other returns safely and slowly! I've never met a writer who dedicated so much to consent, aftercare and just checking in and taking it in a pace where the sub doesn't feel overwhelmed or at complete loss of control.
I've told you how I cried intensely the second time I pegged my boyfriend and how I'm so lucky that even if we both didn't know what domdrop was he held me and I fully believe that if he didn't go gentle and reassure me that day I would have seriously had a mental breakdown! Because the dark thoughts. In my brain after the sex where insanely going to eat me up.
Doms often get exhausted after scenes and in my case it's the relief of the scene going well but also some guilt and inner voices calling me too cruel and twisted for domming. I think people should study this more. Some subs are very resilient and require little of aftercare compared to very fragile doms. It's not always the fragile small sub and the carer protector dom.
Even though I only pegged him three times in total in our 6 years being together the last time (the one after the severe Dom drop) we just laid silent and when he got back quicker he kept calling me sweet nothings and how I'm so caring and gentle and made him feel sexy and loved and that I did a good job (I'm a Dom that likes being called good?! 3ven good girl. Is that even a Dom possible thing?) And I realized It helped me come back so so so much bettermy hands didn't shake and I didn't feel disgusting or ugly and I felt very feminine being called a good mommy (sometimes after I Dom I feel basically like the men I hate and I judge myself for being overtly lustful and saying explicit lustful thingsto him)
Sorry this was such a long rant, we haven't done it In a while because we enjoy anal penetration without pegging more and because I feel too fragile to redo it anytime soon but I want to say to any subs that your doms aren't the role they're playing. Theyre often so worried about your safety and pleasure and put you a million steps before their own pleasure and safety so even if they sometimes slip or make tiny mistakes (no harmful behavior or contemplated assault!) They really feel for you so much in their heart and it takes so much emotion to be a Dom! Like the emotional rush I get when I dom makes my heart expand for my boyfriend so so so much
So Ina summary Dom aftercare should exist more. Especially if the Dom is a sentimental and sensitive person in nature. Don't assume they don't need it!
Yess completely agree! Aftercare is for everyone involved in the scene and everyone who actually understands kink and sex will agree with us! 💜 also thank you so much for saying this about my writing hehehe, aftercare is very important to me and I always want to make sure that all parties invloved in the scene get the love and adoration they deserve after sex. So this is very lovely to read 💜 also, I'm happy for you having fun with your boyfriend hehe he sounds very lovely 💜

Creature Comforts
Prompt: hey ! feel free to ignore this if you want, but im having an anxiety moment™ and would love to see something like this in your writing style !!
so, my idea is that roman gets anxious when it storms due to his fear of the dark and the risk of the power going out, and patton has a phobia of thunderstorms, so they tend to hang out when it storms since the other understands, to some degree, their anxiety about the situation on a personal level. virgil, who loves storms, finds them / gets summoned when they're both panicking pretty bad due to a storm, and soft fluffy comfort ensues where he tries to calm them and reassure them that their fears aren't stupid. lots of soft fluff <3
regardless of whether or not you end up writing this, i hope you have a good day !!! i love your writing style sm <33 - anon
Read on Ao3
Warnings: thunderstorms
Pairings: uhhh whatever the one for roman/virgil/patton is, can be platonic or romantic i don't care
Word Count: 1795
For Virgil, thunderstorms are rare moments of peace. Times where he can just...relax, as much as he ever can, and watch the sky, listen to the rain, enjoy it.
Not everyone in the Mindscape feels this way.
When Virgil hears that there’s going to be a big thunderstorm, he immediately starts planning.
Headphones, check. Warm drink, check. That one ledge in the Imagination Mansion with the big windows, check. Phone charger, check. Blanket, check.
Logan asks him why he’s so happy, offering a soft smile of his own when Virgil explains that there’s a thunderstorm coming up. He pats Virgil’s shoulder and wishes him a good storm watch.
Thunderstorms are so cool. The clouds get all big and bruised and purple—which is excellent—and the lightning makes the sky have all these dimensions that you never get to see when it’s clear. Plus, the sound of the rain makes for great reading weather and it’s getting to be near fall so hot apple cider is a completely acceptable choice of beverage.
Oh, this is going to be great.
He makes sure he’s got absolutely everything he needs and makes his way to the Imagination, opening it to find the foyer of the mansion before him. He walks through the hall until he finds the parlor, parking himself in the loveseat and wriggling into the cushions with a sigh. The clouds are already rolling in, so he puts his headphones on the windowsill and grabs his mug.
The apple cider is spiced to perfection. He smiles, blinking lazily at the darkening sky. That fake Tumblr post about mentally ill people liking storms because of negative ions or whatever plays in his head and he chuckles, lifting to take another drink. False as it may be, he does like storms.
You can imagine, then, when he suddenly gets summoned outside Patton’s room, that he’s less than thrilled about it.
Virgil groans, scrubbing his hand over his face. Hopefully whatever this is can be sorted out quickly and then he can get back to watching the storm. He knocks on the door.
“Uh, hello?”
“What is it, Patton, what do you want?”
“Um—nothing, kiddo, I don’t need anything.”
“You summoned me,” he says, starting to get impatient, “so what do you want?”
“I didn’t summon you! Neither did Roman—did you?”
Great. Princey’s here too. Virgil rolls his eyes.
“No, I most definitely didn’t.”
Virgil pinches the bridge of his nose. “Look, I felt myself getting summoned, so just tell me what you want.”
“Nothing!”
“We didn’t do it on purpose, Virgil!”
Virgil rolls his eyes and tries to leave, only to feel the tug in his gut keeping him there. “Well, obviously one of you is doing something ‘cause I can’t leave.”
“We’re not doing anything,” Patton insists, “we’re—oh, goodness, just come in, I don’t like yelling through the door.”
Virgil grunts, opening the door a little harder than necessary and only slightly regretting it when he sees Roman and Patton jump. “What do you want?”
“We told you,” Roman says, “nothing. We didn’t summon you on purpose. We don’t know what’s keeping you here. I’m sorry for having disturbed you from your very important things—“
Virgil glares. “For your information, Princey, I was excited to watch the thunderstorm. But now I’m here, dealing with you two, and if you don’t even know why you brought me here—“
He pauses.
There was another tug at him when he mentioned the storm.
He looks at the two of them. They’ve moved apart a bit now, but they’re still curled up awfully tight on Patton’s bed. There are blankets and pillows piled around them and he can see Roman’s headphones in his hand.
He glances at the window. The curtains are drawn and fastened tightly shut.
He looks back. Patton keeps glancing at the window. Roman is doing his best to scowl at him but there’s an embarrassed red flush to his cheeks.
Ah.
Oh, dear.
Well, he kinda regrets slamming the door open.
“Are—“ he swallows, trying to make his voice a bit quieter— “are you guys scared of the storm?”
“No,” Roman says immediately, but Patton shrinks in on himself.
“Come on, really?” Virgil spreads his arms. “Obviously that’s what summoned me, there’s not really a point in lying unless you want to accidentally summon J too.”
He shakes his head.
“Patton, sure, I may have guessed, but you, Princey, really?”
“Don’t. Don’t tease.”
Oh, oops. Roman’s voice is hard now, and he’s properly glaring at Virgil.
“If you’re going to do that, leave.”
“Hey, hey, I’m sorry,” Virgil says, holding out his hands and softening his voice, “I won’t, I promise.”
Roman shuffles on the bed, looking away.
“Pop Star?”
“I have a phobia of thunderstorms,” comes the too-small voice, “okay?”
“Okay, sweetheart,” Virgil says, moving to sit on the edge of the bed, “okay. I’m sorry I was mean. It’s okay.”
Roman pulls Patton a bit closer, the two huddling in on themselves, and goddamnit, what is Virgil supposed to do, not melt? He’s not heartless, jeez.
“Oh, alright,” he murmurs like this is some big chore, “come on, you two, up.”
“What? ‘Up’ where?” Roman pulls Patton closer. “Why ‘up?’”
“Because if I’m gonna look after you two, we’re gonna need a bed the three of us can actually fit in.” He fusses them out, making sure their arms are full of the things they need, before he guides them to the Imagination. “Now, up the stairs.”
Roman blinks in surprise when he sees the mansion, turning to ask Virgil why he conjured it only for Virgil to push them gently into the nearest big bedroom. Which, of course, has a massive four-poster bed and a tall window with a heavy curtain hanging over it.
“Go on,” Virgil murmurs, giving them another gentle push, “into the bed.”
“Wait, what?” Patton turns. “Where’re you going?”
“I left some stuff downstairs, I’m just gonna go get it.”
“Come back?”
“Be right there.”
Virgil nips downstairs and briefly laments that he won’t get to finish the thing he’d been reading before he shakes his head, gathers the essentials, and heads back up.
He’s not surprised to see Roman by the window, even as Patton is snuggled under the covers.
“Hey, Princey,” he says, placing his stuff down and ambling over, “I thought I said to get in bed, not stare broodingly out the window.”
Roman doesn’t rise to the bait. Virgil places a hand on his shoulder.
“What’s up, bud?”
“I’m just thinking about logistics.”
“Logistics?”
“The mansion’s power.” Roman gestures around. “It’s unlikely that the storm will be able to target both generators at once, but I need to be able to reroute to the backups—“
“Hey, hey, stay with me,” Virgil murmurs, turning Roman’s face, “you’re spiraling, bud.”
Roman hides his gaze. Virgil ruffles his hair.
“C’mon, Princey,” he says gently, “snap yourself into something comfy and go cuddle Patton. I think he’s getting lonely.”
Sure enough, Patton’s head is poking out of the covers, looking around for them. Roman looks at him with badly concealed longing and Virgil rolls his eyes fondly.
“Go cuddle, you touch-starved prima donna, I’ll be right there.”
“’M not touch starved.”
“So you do want Janus to show up?”
“Virgil,” Roman honest to god whines, “stop it.”
He chuckles, nudging Roman to the bed. “Come on, Princey.”
Roman goes, slipping underneath the covers until Virgil can’t tell which head is poking out over the edge. He pulls the curtains shut and closes the door, carefully opening the bathroom door to make sure those curtains are shut too. Then he heads back to the bed.
Patton and Roman’s little faces peek out at him as he reaches for the ties on the corners, undoing each one until curtains fall from the four posters, creating a little bubble inside. He parts the last one and crawls into bed, pulling the others close.
“Alright, little cuddle bugs,” he murmurs, “c’mere, okay?”
The two of them seem to shrink, curling into his embrace with enough lingering fear that it makes a soft noise slip from his throat.
“I’m right here,” he says, brushing his lips against Patton’s temple, “I’m right here. Roman’s here too. You’re okay, sweetheart, you’re safe.”
Patton whimpers as the first roll of thunder comes from beyond the curtains and Virgil pulls him closer.
“Listen to my breathing, sweetheart. You’re safe. The storm can’t get you in here. I’ll look after you.”
Patton curls into him even further, trembling slightly. But where Patton is unabashed in taking comfort, Roman is stiff as a board. Virgil runs a knuckle down his back.
“It’s okay, Princey,” he says gently, “the power isn’t going to go out. Remus will keep an eye on it. You’re okay, everything’s okay. The house is fine, I’m fine, Patton’s fine, you’re fine.”
A brief flash from behind the curtain and Roman flinches.
“Hey, hey, buddy, it’s alright, you’re okay. C’mere, okay? Put your head right here. See? There you go…”
He wraps his arms tightly around the two of them, daring to nuzzle his face into their hair. Patton relaxes slightly as he pulls the covers up a bit more, but Roman stays tense.
“Roman.” Nothing. “Roman, look at me.”
“It’s dark,” comes Roman’s voice, too clipped, too sharp, “I can’t see.”
“It’s dark because the curtains are drawn,” Virgil says patiently. “Lightning can hurt your eyes, so we’re trying to block out the light. That’s why it’s dark.”
“…promise?”
“Reach out,” Virgil encourages softly, “touch them.”
A bit of light shines through as Roman bats the curtain. “Good job, bud, see? That’s it.” He pulls Roman’s head close again. “Try and rest, Princey, I gotcha.”
They weather the storm like that, the two cuddle bugs wincing or flinching when the storm gets too strong, Virgil hushing them every time they do. And yeah, maybe this isn’t what he set out to get when he heard there was a thunderstorm coming, but he could get used to this.

Ok now you mentioned time blindness for draxum which honestly looking back ye I can see it lol (workaholic one thing, but forgetting to pay the gargoyles unless they're like right there lol)
But like is this hc adhd or autistic or just smth else?
Honestly I haven't really put a specific label to Draxum's idiosyncrasies (not the best word but kinda the idea) besides general neurodivergence. I'm definitely writing him as being somewhere in the realm of adhd and autism, with a couple other things thrown in. I'm playing around a bit with just how much he's actually aware of the fact that he's neurodivergent, because he doesn't seem to spend much time around other people, and it's kind of hard to realize you aren't quote unquote "normal" when you don't have a solid sense of what "normal" is actively defined as, y'know? Not to mention that the definition of normal has changed quite a bit over his lifetime.
As far as the time blindness specifically, that's partly because I'd imagine that when you've lived 1000+ years, the passage of time just isn't as important anymore. What's a week or two when you've seen empires fall kind of thing. What's a couple of decades figuring out how to make mutagen when you've lived through centuries of your people being sequestered away underground. Draxum's scale of time is just completely different from most people's.
It's also partly based on that bit in canon when he's deciding when the Foot Clan will assemble the Dark Armor and the gargoyles butt in talking about his calendar, which to me at least can be interpreted as them knowing his schedule better than he does. I personally read that as a form of time-blindness, partly because I'm time-blind as all get out and I often rely on other people reminding me of things so I don't miss them, and partly because I find the idea of Draxum being an incredibly powerful ancient being who regularly forgets about things like haircut appointments amusing.
TLDR: Draxum is time-blind because he's neurodivergent, because he's old, and because I think it's funny.
