I’d like to think that they all planned to be in neutrals for a photoshoot then ritsuka just about had it with Hiiragi because he came in pastel blue (the calico cat wants to stand out) only for him to then give Hiiragi a free pass seeing that he is just wearing both of the bands’ merch for extra promo 😂😂😂 Ritsu is absolutely thinking “Hiiragi don’t ruin the fucking photo” and there is our cat boi being cheeky with a little RAWR 🐯 Shizu’s and Mafuyu’s little smile like “ah yes we’ve had to deal with years of this behaviour”

So I just read the last chapter of Given and

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITHOUT MY ONCE EVERY 2 MONTH MENTAL BREAKDOWNS NOW!!?? I've been following Given since my second year of highschool I can't move on it's literally a part of my soul!

This idea has been kicking around in my head for a while... Thoughts?

Basically, a 14-year-old Uenoyama is sick after a show (like really sick because he was hiding it to play this show because it was just a headache and low grade fever - amateur stuff) and Kaji and Haruki take care of him. It's really cute in my head so I'll try to do the head cannon notes justice :) Let me know your thoughts:

Basically after their show, Ritsuka pukes in Haruki’s car. All three are driving back after their show (they’ve only been preforming/ practicing a few months) that is about three hours away. Since they are newly formed, they’ll take anything they can get. The fourth member of the band rode back with his girlfriend (some tension there between him and the other three), and Haruki/ Kaji talk in the front seat, smoking while driving through the dark; Ritsuka “sleeping” in the back, his head against the window. He’s been fairly quiet and sluggish since their show ended, but the older two chalk it up to him being drained between starting High School and practicing/ performing; besides, Uenoyama wasn’t really a talker/ sharer. They’ve been practicing a lot lately to get their sound right as they are still learning how to work with each others sound/ technique.

Ritsuka ends up jerking awake and vomiting on himself/ in the backseat, and Haruki pulls over all flustered as him and Kaji get out, opening the side door. The 14-year-old is all lethargic and sweaty (and gross); he has a high fever, barely responding to Kaji’s questions or Haruki’s touches as he tries to clean him up; pulling the kid’s soiled shirt from him and giving the teen his jacket for now as Kaji coaxes him to take some water Haruki had in his trunk. It comes back up.

They end up taking the 14-year-old to a clinic. Haruki in the waiting area while Kaji calls Ritsuka’s sister to explain what was going on. Him pacing outside, flicking his cigarette ash to the ground as Haruki reflects. The clinic gives the teenager fluids and want to keep him over night but don’t have any open beds available- they opt to send him “home” with some meds, explaining the kid would need rest and that he probably has a stomach bug.

After some bickering, Haruki and Kaji decide to check in at a dingy motel a few blocks over; Kaji gripping his arm around the swaying teenager as Haruki unlocks the door. The room is plain to say the least- one bed, one couch and cheap decorations. But considering the two college students didn’t have much money, and Ritsuka wasn’t a complainer, the room would work for the night. Besides Yayoi said she’d feel better if her brother got some rest versus finishing the two hour drive back at 2am.

Ritsuka getting worse throughout the night (puking, can’t keep anything down, fever, headache, everything), his temperature remaining steady because the clinic explained that it could take a while for his body to respond to the fluids. Haruki waking up to Kaji talking softly to Ritsuka in the bathroom as the kid retches (it’s alright. You’re alright, little dude. It’s okay…) At one point, the 14-year-old breaks down, demanding his sister (which freaks out Haruki because it’s so out of place) but Yayoi usually takes care of him when he’s sick after their mom. Kaji manages to make a deal with the teenager to let Haruki help clean him up (something he’s been trying to do for a while like changing his shirt again or washing his hair or wiping him off, etc… getting the kid to drink more or take meds) and Kaji will call his sister so they can talk. Ritsuka finally agrees and Kaji calls Yayoi at 4/5am (she curses Kaji out at first for waking her, ie Haruki overhearing Kajis conversation in the other room - “yeah, he wants to talk to you. No, but if it doesn’t break by morning, we’ll take him back to the clinic…”) so the kid can talk to her/ she can calm him down. Yayoi says that Ritsuka can get emotional if he’s overly exhausted/ not feeling well.

Haruki stepping out of the bathroom when Ritsuka starts talking to his sister because the kid breaks basically the second he hears her voice, saying he wants to go home, he doesn’t feel well and he wants her, etc.

Kaji, leaning against the door as Haruki lets out a steady breath, swallowing thickly as the 14-year-old chokes.

“You okay?”

Haruki nods, clearing his throat, “Yeah. Just kind of forgot he’s a lot younger than us…”

Haruki/ Kaji being best bros to the teenager- “You gotta tell us these things man. We’re a band… maybe more than a band. We’re like brothers.”

Haruki being sweet and gentle despite feeling awkward. Him sleeping next to the 14-year-old because the kid asked shyly to not be alone - Yayoi scolded him for not letting Haruki or Kaji help - Kaji speaking lowly, referring to Ritsuka as “little dude, little man, kid,” etc. He has sisters so he knows a few things about taking care of someone. Kaji sleeping on the crappy couch, arguing with Yayoi on the phone… comes back from a convenience store run to Ritsuka sleeping against Haruki, Haruki running his fingers through the kids hair and Kaji joking around but in reality, it’s cute.

Yeah. Maybe I’ll try dabbling this week as I am off for a week and half. But I have the idea of Ritsuka getting sick and Haruki/ Kaji (they flirt with each other playfully - Kaji mentions that Haruki’s hair is getting long/ Haruki saying he’s gunna cut it soon and Kaji saying he shouldn’t because it’s pretty which leads to Haruki blushing) caring for this kid they’ve heard rumors about as a guitarist prodigy, a kid they barely know. It being awkward at first because they’ve only known each other for a few months. Tension with the fourth member. Thoughts?

A very long post on Mafuyu and autism.

DISCLAIMER! This is quite messy, so I apologise for that. I made this a while back and I’ve been dying to share it! I hope you can enjoy its even if it is too much text. 

1. Struggling with emotions and communication.

It is very clear Mafuyu isn’t an expressive person when it comes to his emotions, he is often portrayed with the same face and seems to be distracted most of the time. This might make him seem like he is unattentive, but this is due to him not masking. Masking is when autistic people act so we can look like allistic people, mimicking their smile, tone and facial expressions, since Mafuyu is not doing that, he often has the same expression.

Another thing he says is that he can’t laugh or cry like other people, autistic people have a hard time understanding and expressing their emotions. He states that he can’t find the words to express himself and that is why he is seen to have a hard time writing the lyrics for the song.

Mafuyu doesn’t talk like the others, he is short of words and often replies with a simple yes. This is often seen as he is just not paying attention, or zoning out, but this is just another autistic trait. This can be due to two things, he is a semi verbal person or is more connected to his lack of understanding of his emotions.

First, a semi verbal person is when an autistic person tends to not talk a lot compared to allistic people. Some autistic people are non-verbal, but in the case of Mafuyu, he does talk, just not as much as others.

2. Facial expressions

Mafuyu’s facial expressions don't change as drastic as the other characters. He often has the same face and this also makes it seem like he is distracted or not interested, but that is another common autistic trait. Mafuyu is not trying to mask by imitating the others around him, which causes him to have a same face syndrome. 

3. Fixation on things.

The guitar/music! He is called a prodigy due to his fast learning, but he is just fixated to learn how to play. It is stated in the show that he doesn't sleep to learn to play.

This could be due to playing the guitar is now a hyperfixation for him, autistic people have both hyperfixation and special interests.

4. Echolalia.

Whenever Uenoyama ends his explanations, Mafuyu tends to repeat the last words he says. At first, it looks like he doesn't know what the words mean, but that isn’t the case. Echolalia is the repetition of words/phrases, it's like quoting a movie, but involuntary.

Mafuyu doesn’t understand certain concepts, but most of the time he is repeating what Uenoyama says because he is focusing/trying to understand what he is saying.

5. Sensory processing issues.

This is an anime scene only, but Uenoyama buys Mafuyu a soda, and he says he can't drink it. This may look random, but this can be seen as him not being able to eat certain food due to sensory issues. This can make certain textures feel like hell (personally, I can’t drink soda either, this is why it’s here)

Another scene is after the concert, he states that the lights from the stage burn and that seemed to take a lot of focus. It wasn't a bad thing for him. Sensory issues aren't always a bad thing, we just process things around us differently.

6. Taking things too literally.

Uenoyama tells Mafuyu not to take things too literally when he doesn’t get the eyes in his back phrases. Autistic people tend to not understand certain idioms or common phrases when they have another meaning. Like the phrase “It’s raining dogs and cats.” it isn’t raining literal animals, but phrases like that can be confusing to autistic people.

7. Saying things at the wrong time.

He tends to give direct honest and be brutally honest. Sometimes his answers might seem out of context, like when asked what would he like for the band name. Like I said before, this might look like he is just distracted, but he is just saying what’s in his mind. Autistic people tend to do that due to not reading the tone of the conversation/question.

8. Stimming.

This one is hard to catch, but the song he has stuck in his head might be a stim. Hiiragi says Mafuyu would often hum songs, and Mafuyu seems to not remember the songs. That is because it was a vocal stim! Stim is short for self-stimulation, it is something autistic people do when overwhelmed/underwhelmed. It can be voluntary or sometimes we don’t notice, like Mafuyu. Another scene where we can see him stim is when he first plays the chord to Uenoyama and he keeps playing it repeatedly, which can be interpreted as an audio stim.

9. Explosive episodes.

I do not mean this as in an explosive anger episode, that is a completely different thing. Mafuyu tends to explode after a while, this can be seen with his fight with Yuki and his talk with Hiiragi. This is linked to his struggle with emotions, since he doesn’t express how he feels, he tends to bottle up, which ends in an explosive moment where he loses control of what he says and how he says it.

11. Extras.

In the anime, Mafuyu is seen arranging his toys in a straight line. This sounds like nothing compared to the rest of the notes, but this is often associated with autism.
