'Mortals have the mistaken belief that they move into the future,' he explains. 'That is not true at all. The future moves into you. That is how manifesting works. There are an infinite number of futures and possibilities out there for you. Time passes through you, it moves past you. You stay still. Whatever energy you put forward is what will align with a future with that same energy, and that is the future you will attract.'

📖: Lease on Love ✍: Falon Ballard Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I honestly enjoyed reading this book. I remember smiling at some scenes that are witty, sweet and heartwarming. It was a little slow but  I didn't mind because I'm a sucker for slow burn and that is one of the strengths of this book. Sadie's circle of friends also earned brownie points on how they support each other. Harley, Gemma and Nick are one of the best fictional friends that I’ve ever read. Their group chat was chaotic and I loved it. Sadie and Jack’s struggle with giving each other nickname is so cute. My only issue why I have not given this 5 stars is the conflict at the end. The way Sadie reacted to it was not the type of reaction I was hoping and the way it was tied up was a little rushed.
📖: By Any Other Name ✍: Lauren Kate Rating: 🌟🌟🌟.75
I was skeptical when I picked up this book because I didn't really enjoy the Fallen series (though I only read the first book and didn’t bother to read the succeeding books). This book started so slow and to be honest i think there are parts in the beginning of the book that are unnecessary, the story will still go through without them. I’m almost halfway through when I started to officially like and enjoy this book. I just wish Lanie and Noah’s story started a few chapters early so that they will have more page time together.
📖: The Royals Next Door ✍: Karina Halle Rating: 🌟🌟🌟.5
I love how the main characters of this novel are the side characters that we see in a romance with a royal trope. I enjoyed the storytelling, though I'm not a huge fan of how the royals in this novel are heavily influenced by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s story. I laughed at some of the hilarious banters and some of Piper’s dilemma. If i’m going to rank this i would put this on my “I didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it” pile.

"It's smut," she practically spits out. "It's smut and it's wonderful," I tell her. "What's so wrong with smut? What's wrong with a book that focuses on sex? Why is sex in movies and in TV and in art and in music and in literary novels considered okay, but a romance novel isn't?"

The Read-Cap: Week of March 23, 2024
Sharing everything that I managed to read in the last week and what I'm planning on reading in the next
This week I fully planned on different something different but after finishing A Touch of Chaos, I decided I didn’t want to jump into anything potentially complex. My week at work was long to say the least, so I needed something I could just turn my brain off to and vibe with. That’s how I ended up reading the Sleepy Hollow inspired duology by Karina Halle. They are short reads and just something…

REVIEW: Black Rose by Karina Halle
*Contains Spoilers*
3.75/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
At first, I was ready to give BLACK ROSE a five-star rating, but the ending left me disappointed. In contrast, BLOOD ORANGE had a gripping plot that had me on the edge of my seat and ended on an incredible cliffhanger.
Unfortunately, BLACK ROSE fell short in some areas. The plot was shallow and lacked clear explanations. For example, what happened to Sarah, who was an antagonist in the first book? Also, Bellamy's death felt rushed, similar to Arya Stark killing the White Walker King. Leif's character arc also felt incomplete as he left with Amethyst, Wolf, and Van Helsing without putting up a fight, despite only knowing Bellamy, Atlas, and Celinda as family. It felt like there was a rush to wrap things up without making the book too long.
Despite these flaws, I still enjoyed the dynamic between Valtu and the female protagonists Rose/Dhalia/Lucy/Mina. IT WAS HOT AND SPICY & action-packed.
I do hope that Karina Halle continues to write in this universe, possibly tying up Van Helsing and Leif's storylines, as she mentioned in her acknowledgments.

• Review: Blood Orange + Black Rose •
If you often find yourself reading vampire books and wishing for something a little bit darker, then Karina Halle’s Dracula Duet is for you.
A cleverly reimagined Dracula, the story is centered on Valtu Aminoff, the vampire who inspired Bram Stoker – and whose story was wildly fictionalized in the infamous vampire book.
In Blood Orange, Dahlia – a witch who is a vampire slayer – is sent to Venice to pose as a graduate student, get close to Valtu, and get rid of him. But she begins to have vivid nightmares where women who look like her die in horrible ways, and she feels an undeniable pull to Valtu.
And their story is a five-alarm fire situation. These books are *spicy* – I mean, there’s a place called the Red Room in it , so! – and Valtu has very particular tastes, if you get what I mean. So definitely check the tw before diving in, especially if you’re new to dark romance.
It’s hard to talk about the rest of the story without giving massive spoilers, but know that when the plot of Blood Orange kicked back in (it, uh, takes a pretty massive backseat to all the *ahem* for a while), the ending left me absolutely gobsmacked. And then Black Rose is basically just a whole lot of erotic angst – which, from me, is a compliment.
That said, I do think Blood Orange is a stronger book than Black Rose, but there are a few unresolved plot points, perhaps signaling a spin-off? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Blood Orange: 4🌟 | 3.75🌶️
Black Rose: 3.5🌟 | 3.75🌶️
