🍽 SOUP BASES ($38 for single, $24 for twin)

🍲 Stewed Pork Tripe and Chicken Soup

🐷 Pork Platter ($34)

Comes with pork collar and belly. Sliced very thinly. Both were good!

🐟 Basa Fish ($12)

Cheapos, so we ordered the cheapest fish. The meat is really silky!

🐟 Fish Ball ($11)

It's a huge fish ball, just like the outside of a teochew fish ball.

🦑 Squid Paste ($18)

Somehow I expected it to be as nice as BITP's. It's nice but the meat itself was more firm than BITP fish paste. Perhaps the prawn paste version will have a better texture.

⭐️ Deep Fried Red Balls

Super crispy on the outside with tasty prawn paste on the inside. Comes free with the avocado soup! It's SUPERB.

🍜Chewy noodles

🍚Lu rou rice (very little meat but rice itself is good)

🥤 3 bubble tea for $9

🧋 Da Hong Pao with bubble

Good amount of da hong pao signature taste.

🧋 Kumquat Wintermelon

Not bad! Refreshing with a strong hit of sweet and sour citrus. It has a rather sweet-ish feels rather than the astringent lemony taste.

Katong, Melintasi Waktu.

Aku pernah nulis di twitter, kalau tiapkali keingat Katong, hal yang terlewat di pikiran adalah Surah Al-Mulk karena daerah itu adalah kompleks tempat tinggal orang-orang Melayu dan how they live in 1950s sebelum Singapore merdeka. Aku nggak tau kenapa bisa terasosiasi di pikiranku tapi, imajinasi tuh keren ya ternyata. Sesuatu yang samasekali tidak berhubungan tapi bisa menghasilkan output yang berbeda tiap akal. Aku suka kalau jalan-jalan (literally) ke Katong dan neighborhood yang udah berdiri puluhan tahun macam Tanjong Pagar sama Tiong Bahru. Berasa kembali ke masa lalu.

Prolognya udah.

Kemarin Jumat sore karena ada waktu aku nyempetin ke Geylang Serai Bazaar Ramadan di Katong. Deket cuma butuh 13 menit naik bus. Terus bawa film kamera yang kubeli bulan lalu. Sampai sana sekitar jam 5 sore, stall-nya udah banyak yang buka. Terus jajan pertama yg aku beli jelas vadai (gorengan india dari lentil, biji-bijian sejenis kacang hijau). Ngga beli 1 tapi 3 dari 2 stall yang berbeda HAHAHA.

Daftar yang aku beli kemarin: vadai sayur, thai tea, vadai lagi 2pcs, pisang goreng, bakwan, okonomiyaki. Lalu karna crowd-nya masih lumayan lengang aku muter-muter sambil liat apa aja yang dijual di sana dan found out something. Minuman yang dijual kebanyakan thai tea dengan 1 merk yang punya beberapa stalls. So does The Original Vadai yang punya lebih dari 3 stalls. Makanan lain yg dijual ya umumnya masakan Melayu, sama jajan2 India&Thailand. Chinese food jelas gak ada. Beberapa stalls jual kebab. Kalo dipikir ya yang dijual gitu-gitu aja, sama kayak tahun kemarin, ngga terlalu istimewa tapi menyenangkan aja kalau didatangi sesekali.

Terus lanjut ke KINEX beli rotiboy yang suprisingly enak, sama melipir ke PLQ beli eskrim cone sebelum ke mrt. Ambil beberapa gambar yang akan kuingat di tahun-tahun mendatang. Sore yang cukup menyenangkan meski sayangnya ga sempet strolling around katong karna kemaleman.
