btw with all my posts abt dazai surviving i do think it will take at least a few more chapters until that's revealed. maybe we'll get a continuation of chuuya's storyline but dazai needs to stay dead for a few more chapters for the pacing of the story as a whole (as frustrating as it is for those following it monthly)

Chapter 110 is 13 pages long welcome to hell!!! so in a lot of ways this is just more fuel for a theory that I've had for a few weeks now, that's only gotten stronger with each recent season 5 episode, which is that the last episode of the season is gonna end on 110, and that Asagiri/Harukawa and Bones have been collaborating to make this happen, specifically because it's a major turning point that would be the only good place to end the season on.
When we started getting especially long chapters again (like from 25-35ish pages, with the exception of 107.5, the last two being some of the longest we've ever had), at first I just assumed that Asagiri/Harukawa got freed up from some other obligations they'd been having to cause the extremely short/half chapters, like promotional stuff for the anime/Beast movie, or working on light novels. But then 109 happened, with the "supposed" death of Dazai, and heavy emphasis at the end on how literally everyone is at their lowest point right now, and I got to thinking. 11 episodes is a strangely specific number for an anime season -- why not 12, or 13, or even 10, like you'd usually see? Why have we gotten suddenly gotten two 35 page chapters out of nowhere, that's almost unheard of at this point? They're both beautiful chapters, don't get me wrong (as always), and maybe A/H simply just didn't want to cut them in halves because they felt like the full emotional impact wouldn't hit/that there were no good cutoff points in them, but you can't deny that it's surprising, after all the shorter chapters we've been getting. Why has the anime been going at such insanely breakneck pacing for the most part ever since around the Sunday Tragedy chapters, even more so than it has in the past? So much so that it feels dangerously close to overtaking the manga?
Well, maybe, just maybe, it's because..... Asagiri decided a long time ago that whatever happens in 110 is the only point that feels "season finale"-worthy enough, in an arc that still isn't anywhere close to being completely wrapped up, and so both the manga and the anime have been specifically coordinated to reach that part within 2 and a half weeks of each other?
I've seen a lot of people now think season 5 will end with 109, and as much as my sadistic side would find that hilarious, I honestly don't think they'd do that and realistically don't want it to happen; it'd be so cruel to cliffhanger the anime for years like that, and just doesn't feel like a season cliffhanger BSD would do, a series that is ultimately hopeful and uplifting. Seasons 2 and 3 had a positive, conclusive ending; the only reasons seasons 1 and 4 didn't was because they're technically not really full seasons of their own, and are more like the first cour of another "season" that also came out that same year (seasons 1 and 2 both aired in 2016, so they're more like one big season, and seasons 4 and 5 have both aired this year, so they're also more like one big season, again taking into account how episodes 12 and 50 are not satisfying finales like episodes 24, 37, and hypothetically, 61, are). I really can't see season 5 ending with Dazai and Fukuzawa's supposed deaths, Sigma being unconscious and maybe close to death, Atsushi being vulnerable and limbless again, everyone we love still vampires, and the entire world being basically doomed; that's just too depressing and not like BSD at all. However, having said that, if it doesn't end there, there really isn't any good place to end the season before that, either, that feels in any way satisfying or like a finale at all. And so, to me, that only leaves after 109: chapter 110.
I think things are really gonna turn around next chapter. Like I said, everyone is at their lowest point right now, it cannot possibly get any worse, the framing of Dazai, Fukuzawa, and sskk at the end of 109 is telling us that; this is the time for the heroes to finally start winning again, with Aya being so close to pulling out the sword, and for all the thematic reasons other people have talked about to death that I don't need to go into here again. This upcoming chapter being so short again makes a part of me wary of 110 being "the one", so to speak, I won't lie, but at the same time, it's very possible that it needs to be that short because that's all the final episode of the season will be able to reasonably fit in, since it's already gonna be VERY close if they do make it all the way to 109. And at the end of the day, I don't doubt at all that Asagiri and Harukawa can make these the most monumental and game-changing mere 13 pages ever if they wanted to; a chapter does not at all need to be extremely long in order to be an important and impactful one, even if short ones we've gotten in the past haven't felt the most important.
An additional thought I've had, though this is much more crack territory than all this already is, is that since we know from Anime Expo that a Stormbringer movie at some point is highly likely (judging from Asagiri's reaction when someone brought it up), it's possible that chapter 110 and thus the final episode will involve the long-anticipated return of Verlaine and/or Adam, or at least some other major reference to Stormbringer, that would naturally and smoothly lead into a Stormbringer movie to explain things to people who haven't read the novel. It would make a lot of sense, especially since the s4 OP has the Old World sign behind Chuuya, which might be a hint that this has been in the works ever since seasons 4/5 were first in planning with Asagiri. We also know that Dazai and Chuuya's voice actors apparently struggled to record their lines together this season, which probably relates to 101 and possibly 109, but it could be 110 too.... I could be very wrong, as I'm no expert on this kind of thing, but I kinda doubt they would bring Chuuya's actor in for just the vampire growls, and Asagiri placing heavy emphasis on Chuuya's importance this season in that one interview gives me the impression that he's talking about much more than just 101/109. But that's the least solid evidence I have, that's just mostly based on vibes I get.
So basically, I think a lot of factors -- the unusual episode count, how close the anime is to catching up to the manga with three whole episodes left, the seemingly arbitrary recent chapter lengths, and the climactic events of 109 -- can tell us that 110 might be a very, VERY big deal. Again, there's of course no way this arc is anywhere near close to being finished, with so much left to address and resolve, but since it is currently incomplete in the manga, unlike the previously adapted arcs, if the anime was going to adapt it at all, they'd have to find a place that feels satisfying enough to end this season, knowing there won't be more anime for a long time after this, and so I think they specifically planned for that, from both Bones' and A/H's sides. 10 episodes might not have been enough to reach that point, but 12 or 13 might have been too many it wouldn't have been if Bones actually decided to slow down and let the story breathe the way it needs to, but this post isn't meant to criticize the anime, so maybe 11 was just right. And maybe Asagiri and Harukawa specifically pushed to make recent chapters longer than usual, in order to make sure that the manga reached the story content in 110 the monthly release right before season 5 was to end.
Is this just copium? Absolutely. Am I going to look like an absolute clown in two days when this post ages like milk? Probably. But the evidence is There, so let me just enjoy my delusions until Sunday, okay 🥂🫡
#bungou stray dogs#seriously call me a clown and point and laugh at me if I'm proven wrong all you want#but I really feel like there's solid evidence for this#either s5 isn't gonna reach 109 at all (but I seriously cannot fathom where you would want to stop before then) or they'll go beyond it#if they really do end it with 109....... well i'll give Bones kudos for having the balls to do that ig lol#maybe i'm underestimating (overestimating???) them idk#also just to clarify I don't wanna make it sound like I think Asagiri let the anime/Bones dictate the manga's pacing#like I'm sure these were his/their (him and Harukawa's) own decisions first and foremost#not that (if this theory is true) the anime had a major impact on how the chapters were split and that it-#-would have been extremely different otherwise#i'm pretty confident in that Asagiri does not do anything with BSD he isn't comfortable with#and he doesn't let anyone tell him how to write his story#I just feel like he worked with Bones to make this near-simultaneous release happen#BUT if this is the case I don't feel like it had any major effect on the writing/final product that is the manga#like the last handful of chapters have been so incredible#so I at least am still perfectly happy lol#(i mean i'm devastated and a nervous wreck but u know 🫡 in a good way lmao)#anyway 110 in two days please let this theory be true because I need some fucking hope already#please let Oda show up as Dazai's guardian angel to help (see what I did there-)#it would be the perfect way to end the collective season that is 4/5 with s4 beginning with Oda and now ending with Oda#Asagiri are you reading me are you picking up what I'm putting down please please a ghost Oda is long overdue please-#Oda Verlaine Adam just GIVE ME SOMEONE ALREADY 😭😭😭#MAYBE EVEN A TASTE OF THE FYODOR BACKSTORY TO TIE INTO HIM BEING IN ANIME UNTOLD ORIGINS. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

I propose to you. Skk wedding fic, but with a twist.
We start with the proposal. They try to propose to each other and make it a competition, but they both say yes. We get to see them picking out a cake, Kyouyou and Kunikida help set up the venue, everything is great.
Kyoka as flower girl and Kenji as ring bearer. Hirotsu is officiating the wedding because who else is going to?? Fukuzawa walks Dazai down the aisle. Akutagawa as Chuuya's best man and Atsushi as Dazai's. Everything's going great.
But an hour before the wedding, Dazai pulls Akutagawa and Atsushi aside and is like "hey guys, if a dude named Verlaine shows up, you have full permission to beat the hell out of him." And the two of them are so excited that they get to attack someone without repercussion.
So the wedding continue as normal, even Mori is crying in the back row, and then just as Hirotsu calls for objections, this French Fuckass struts in like "yes, hello, how dare you let my brother-" and sskk just fucking pounce on him. They drag him outside, beat the shit out of him, and return to their spots like nothing happened.
But wait! Beating up Verlaine wasn't the end! We get to the reception, everyone of legal drinking age is absolutely fucking hammered. Tachihara and Kajii have a fucking dance battle. Higuchi and Naomi start karaoke together. Dazai shoves Chuuya's face into a cake but then reveals that there was a second cake anyways.
There is no bouquet, only a cat plush that requires you to get a cat. Atsushi sprints for that shit and cheers at Akutagawa when he catches it. Ranpo would have caught it for Fukuzawa, but was too busy comforting Poe, who was sobbing because "it's just so beautiful, y'know?"
And the fic ends with Dazai looking at Chuuya the next morning, smiling because he finally has someone who will stay.

Ok bsd and land of the lustrous lovers (all five of us)
I have opened the hellsite on this night to procrastinate on sleep and ramble about which gem the Bungo boys would be
So I'm not that far in the manga but saw someone a while ago post about Dazai being a Sapphire and Chuuya being a Cinnabar and it's so perfect I refuse to go against the idea. Only thing is, I like the idea of Dazai having just a tiny missing part of him over his chest where a doctor (Yosano) would've filled it with another gem, a green one, to match his bolo in the show. Also cus other metaphorical reasons that I'm too tired to explain next hc
Yosano is Rutile Rutile is Yosano but would Yosano really be a Rutile? Idk I think it fits pretty well honestly we'll go with that, also Kouyou is a Padparadscha who was Chuuya's mentor figure until she caved in her condition, Chuuya really can't have shit can he
Atsuahi I think Ghost Quartz fits him with the color palette and idk if the personality suits him but the fact that Dazai is a Sapphire makes it more interesting so we'll go with that- either Ghost or Diamond cus
I can see a sort of sskk in Bort and Dia. Bort is Akutagawa and Akutagawa is Bort frfr
Kyoka is a Neptunite I refuse to take criticism on that
EVERYONE HEAR ME OUT PLS PLS CHILL THE FUCK OUT!! Ranpo is a Phosphophylite. Fragile, bratty, green eyes, short, it just fits
Kunikida is Yellow Diamond, I know their personalities aren't that similar but both have past and current partners, both have guilt for lost loved ones, both take youngsters under their wings, both are very experienced, and idk yellow I guess (I can also see Jade for him)
Kenji is a Zircon cus look at them
Katai is an Alexandrite idk why he just is
Idk what the siblings would be and frankly if they're not in Beast font idc about them
Fukuzawa is Kongo
Gin is an Obsidian cus idfk
Sigma vaguely fits Euclase
Nikolai and Fyodor are also Ghost and Sapphire
Lucy is a Red Beryl
Jouno I guess fits Antarc sorta and Tetcchou is also a Bort
Running out of brain juice thank you and goodnight

BSD 107 - spoilers and meta
Ok I’ve scrolled down enough to tell that no one else is talking about it so I’m gonna lose my mind here. I am very very biased.
So obviously we’re getting parallels between skk and sskk in that they’re both fighting each other and trying to get the other out of some sort of danger caused by Fyodor and/or Fukuchi. Have we considered the zskk implications of this?
I’ve been saying all along that I think Mori’s gonna be a huge part of saving the day in this arc but the way it’s going a/sagiri might agree with me.
Because up to this point Mori is the one thing Fukuchi hasn’t accounted for. To our knowledge. Obviously if Fukuchi’s done any research on Fukuzawa he’d know that the two of them have a contentious relationship at best but that can be explained by their status in Yokohama. Their true past, fighting together as reluctant bodyguard and reckless doctor, was dictated by Natsume and idk exactly why but I don’t think Fukuchi was able to get into anything of Natsume’s (quite possibly because Natsume’s a fucking cat most of the time lol). Not to mention that while Fukuchi would have access to most military records, I don’t think he’d have time to read through them all, and would have to justify accessing the top secret ones. One of which is Mori’s involvement in the war. We’re still not clear on why Mori was a top secret military asset but it’s not super important. Obviously Tachihara would be able to pass some information onto Fukuchi but Mori seems to have been aware of Tachihara’s background and ability and would have taken measures to guard against that, not to mention Jouno could also intercept the information.
All this to say that I don’t think Fukuchi is as aware of Mori as he should be. I think he’s taken control of so much of the Port Mafia by turning them into vampires that he’s written them off, unaware that when he closed his net, the puppetmaster slipped out. And as far as we’ve seen, aside from Dazai’s rebellion and a few small independent actions by ppl like Kouyou and Aku, the loyalty Mori’s cultivated is absolute, especially among the higher echelons. Fukuchi can’t control the Port Mafia, not really, without wresting control of it from the man who already has that control.
Mori is the king of pragmatism, the knower of all secrets. He sees where the tide is turning and throws his support behind whoever is going to let him come out on top. And tellingly, even at the beginning of this arc when everything was going to shit, Mori picked the Agency over the Hunting Dogs. He went personally to rescue Kenji when last we saw him. It gets mentioned in that recap that Mori going personally is something Fukuchi wouldn’t be able to predict. He’s the fly in the ointment, he’s the important piece Fukuchi’s forgotten and it’s going to stab him in the back. Knowing Mori, likely literally.
Especially now that Fukuchi’s stabbed Fukuzawa. Now I can debate about how romantic zskk is all day, but regardless, Mori seems to keep a particular eye on Fukzawa at all times. So if Mori remains free and not a vampire at this point, do we really believe he doesn’t know Fukuchi’s stabbed Fukuzawa? Hell no. I fully expect Mori to interfere in that fight very soon and we’ll get to see just how unstoppable the two of them were when they fought together in the old days. The tiny flashbacks we’ve seen where Mori mentions how unstoppable they are take place post the destruction of an entire organization by Mori and Fukuzawa alone. The only people to have ever done that before are Chuuya (accidentally in Suribachi city), Dazai and Chuuya (working together on Mori’s orders), and Odasaku (on a suicide mission). We are long overdue a look at the original soukoku.
Sidebar, there’s also significance to Mori’s specific ability. Elise is, as of right now, one of the only abilities we’ve seen that can speak and definitely the only one who appears to be able to take independent action. I fully believe that we have never seen her used to her full potential. Which would be very in character for Mori to keep in his back pocket. But clearly, a/sagiri is pulling out all the stops this arc, no reason to believe he won’t pull this one.
tl;dr I am very excited by this arc and think that now we’ve seen Aku and Atsu, Dazai and Chuuya, we’re going to see Fukuzawa and Mori, and it’s going to be amazing.

Regarding some sskk-skk paralels and an interesting fact
So it is evident to me that all the zskk!-sskk!-skk! have one part of the couple being morally the “dark.” And the other being morally the “light” (Physically: also one is offensive attack and the other is defensive attack/this is not what I want to talk about tho)
But what I want to point back to the “Light” “Dark” concept. And here it becomes tricky:
Well, obviously Fukuzawa is light (his mindset is light and his position in the story is light.) Chuuya however, (his mindset is light, but his position in the story is dark.) And lastly, Atsushi (mindset light, position light.)
With Mori (mindset dark, position in the story dark.) Dazai (mindset dark, position in the story light). Akutagawa (mindset dark, position dark.)
And while I say ‘mindset’ I mean POV, morals, their way of connecting/understanding the world they live in, I mean Dazai became what he is today thanks to Oda, but that doesn’t mean his way of seeing the world changed a 100%. Meaning his true self was doing good in the darkness/would have managed to become boss of the portmafia, etc, etc. Maybe what I want to say here, is that to me Dazai is something like what bbcsherlock told bbcmoriarty at one point: “Oh, I may be on the side of the angels, but don't think for one *second* that I am one of them.”
Which takes me to the second point: and here something I wanted to talk about since I started watching BSD! Dazai and his children/sons…
Is plain to me that he has a favorite people. He doesn’t love both sons equally. He favors Atsushi over Akutagawa, greatly.
Why?
(I think it’s unfair because we could even say Akutagawa was there first. Dazai messed him up in the head very badly. Akutagawa loves him almost fanatically while Atsushi loves him normally… I could go on and on in here but you get my meaning.)
And here is where I put my shipper-glasses on (which I had not put in quite a while)
But, it seems really interesting to me…
That Dazai prefers the ‘light’ part of the couple of sskk!, over the ‘dark’ part that would be a direct mirror to himself (He prefers Chuuya’s counterpart and that, that has many meanings but above all, I think... that is poetically beautiful.)

Basically a rundown of the BSD manga rn:
Asagiri got sick and tired of us shipping Shin Soukoku, Soukoku and ranpoe, so he decided it was for some angst and eliminated them. In that order.
Fukuchi = MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE DISGRACE ON THIS EARTH FUCK YOU YOUR MOTHER IS SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP FOR GIVING BIRTH TO YOU BITCH BITCHASS FUCK YOU
Hunting Dogs: The ONE part of the government that isn't useless. The Hunting Dogs is legit carrying the entire government on it's back istg
(Bonus surprise!: Feral jacket dude we ship with Gin or Chuuya is a traitor!)
(Another Bonus Surprise!: Mori turns out to be even more of an asshole + Yosano angst!)
(MORE BONUS SURPRISES: In exchange for the wrecking of your threw favourite ships, we have earned another mystery lover to join our ragtag duo of detectives!)
Save Sigma, Praise Nikolai; a three year old manchild and a Russian clown respectively.
Remember our emo who looks like he could be a vampire?
*introduces Bram Stoker*
NOW HE'S AN UNDEAD VAMPIRE
*Sskk fans sobbing in the distance*
Atsushi is contemplating life and why his-partner-who-is-totally-not-in-love-with-him-yet-kept-his-promise-of-no-killing-and-saved-his-ass-multiple-times sacrificed his life for him.
Hmmm. I wonder why.
Fukuzawa, our dilf, turns out to be an asshole magnet by being exes with BOTH Fuk*c** and M*ri.
Dazai gets arrested and proceeds to gossip and play imaginary chess with fuckbuddy Fyodussy in prison.
Russian Clown pulls a Chuuya and breaks his bf out of prison because he wants to kill him.
#saveSigma
Dazai steals Sigma, so Fyodor steals Chuuya.
Dazai is not happy.
Dazai drowns Fyodor.

Do you have fav ships in BSD? Why love them?
Tumblr media
(These asks are kind of related so I'll answer them both in one.)
Lets see, favourite ships, I'll start with the obvious, shall I?
Soukoku or Dazai x Chuuya. I like them both romantically, platonically and queer platonically. They are very important people to each other I just think they need to admit that in some way. I like to dissect their individual characters and so much of them is influenced by the other, in my opinion. They care for each other, they hate each other, they depend on each other. They're bond is inescapable, even not speaking for years, being in different organizations, they fall straight back into just being them around each other.
Kunizai? Kunikida x Dazai. I'm still not sure on the actual ship name. But I like to call them the worst office romance in history. Similar love/hate dynamic to SKK, but less extreme in the hate department. The moment Dazai tried to spend Kunikida's money and he complained about it, but still spent the money anyway, I was like "Oh they're married, or divorced, Dazai is Kunikida's ex that never moved out because they still secretly love each other and sleep in the same bed sometimes."
Kunichuzai or Kunikida x Chuuya x Dazai. Some part of me thinks Yokohama wouldn't survive the chaos of these three getting together. Imagine two of the most chaotic men in the city trying to court the same guy at the same time. Unshakeable bond + Worst office romance in history + Uptown girl falls for backstreet boy = Insanity.
Shin Soukoku or Atsushi x Akutagawa. I do like this ship BUT very specially fanon interpretations of SSKK or Beast!SSKK (iwamimimimi makes such good SSKK art) because whilst I can see it in the anime/manga main timeline, I do not think they would work well AT ALL as couple given the current state of their dynamic. They have the love/hate dynamic, but currently not enough of the love part, or even enough respect for each other in canon. So fanon works that explore how they would come together interest me.
Atsushi x Lucy. Hello???? They're cute??? Need I say more???? Lucy literally gave up everything she had to help Atsushi. She has a better life now because she took that leap. They have very specific traumas that they both understand and can help each other through. Atsushi is insanely oblivious to Lucy's crush on him but he does care about her. I think they deserve some peace and tenderness together. And can you imagine the teasing they would get from the rest of the office when they go for coffee.
I think those are my main ships. I think art of Ranpo and Poe is cute, but I think I'm not overly into the ship. Similarly I like art for Kouyou and Yosano, Higuchi and Gin, Tachihara and Gin, and Fyodor and Nikolai. Fukuzawa and Mori is also just funny as a divorced couple.

HELLO?? STREET RACERS AU?? WHAT? HOWD THEY GET INTO RACING???
THANK U SO MUCH FOR INDULGING ME (<- you don't understand i have three different documents + a spreadsheet open just with notes on the timeline and world-building)
ok ! ok so the series is called "retribution for the dead", and the name is actually a play on dazai trying to get retribution for oda's death in the only way he knows how - by fixing the circuit. it actually has five installments (each has a different ship focus; retribution is sskk focused; the installments are about tachizaki, kousano, skk, and then fukuzawa + ranpo (platonically ofc) respectively)
the basics:
the portside - yokohama's street-racing culture, commonly referred to as the circuit. the circuit is compromised of meets, highway races - which are 2-3 races down flat stretches of highway, and touge races - which are essentially winding mountain passes. the portside is able to afford all of this because a) racers bring their own shit and b) they're known for the maybe-not-so-legal import & export of cars.
the agency of repairs - the mechanic shop founded by fukuzawa after he retired from racing to take care of a very klepto fourteen-year-old ranpo, who did try to steal his car.
NOW, how they got into racing varies from character to character ! atsushi's is the only one we actually get to see, and he gets into racing because he moves to Yokohama into a shitty apartment and his neighbor happens to be dazai. and dazai happens to ask if he needs a job and when atsushi's like "well... i don't know anything about cars", dazai goes "that's fine!"
dazai also introduces atsushi to the portside, since it is so closely entwined with the agency. he was banking on atsushi being fascinated by it. and atsushi was! then dazai takes atsushi to his own workshop and says "hey, here's this totaled car. you can fix it up for practice, but if you get it running, you can race it."
important to note that not only does dazai not offer to teach atsushi anything about cars, atsushi also doesn't know how to drive.
the reason dazai wants atsushi in the portside is because he wants to make a rivalry. he wants atsushi & akutagawa to be at each other's throats and he wants it to trump everything else the circuit has going on.
because, you see, the circuit is much more bloodthirsty than it used to be. there's more death, more carnage, more wrecks; it's about living fast and dying hard when it used to be about cars and specs and value. it is somewhat dazai & chuuya's fault the circuit is so bloodthirsty, but they're both retired.
dazai wants atsushi & akutagawa's rivalry to get so big, so all-encompassing, that it changes the circuit's mentality and culture.

bsd skk soccer au?
ADA Tigers : Coach Yukuchi Fukuzawa
ranpo- goalie
kenji and kunikida- center back
naomi and atsushi- full backs
yosano, dazai- defensive mids/ 6+8
kyōka- attacking mid
jun’ichirō and haruno- wingers
striker: missing (formerly katai)
Port Mafia FC: Coach Ōgai Mori, ast. Kouyou Ozaki
motojiro kajii- goalie
center backs- formerly ango and oda, now kouyou and missing
higuchi and akutagawa- full backs
gin, tachihara: defensive mids
chuuya- attacking mid
elise, (former kyoka) - wingers
kyūsaku/Q - striker
story under cut!
basically, both teams are down players, ever since Oda sasunosuke tore his ACL while playing. because it happened on a dangerous play Mori put them in, Dazai left for the ADA, their rival club. Ango soon switched clubs.
Kyoka switched after playing conditions got too bad for a 14 year old, Atsushi recruited her.
Dazai and Chuuya were co captains (double black!) before Dazai left. Kouyou is still young enough to play so she had to step down from her assistant coaching position to captain, but they’re still down two players.
The ADA is also missing players or never had them to begin with, but they’re only one short.
The two teams are top in their league, but risk being beaten by the Guild SC for the title. since neither team has enough to play a game, the teams are forced to combine to play a friendly against the Guild. (yes i know this isn’t how competitive soccer works i play it okay)
this results in a lovely skk reunion in which dazai and chuuya have to play in the middle together again!
final combined lineup looks like
ranpo- goalie (kajii sub)
kenji and kunikida center backs
akutagawa and atsushi full backs (sskk hehe) with naomi sub
dazai and gin starting center mids with yosano and tachihara sub
chuuya attacking mid

I haven't read gaiden so i dont know about ayatsuji but so far it seems there's no ability directly about intelligence? The smart characters we got all seem to be naturally intelligent.Dazai even said he have never seen an ability like that in dazai's entrance exam LN.Thats probably why he got suspicious and tried to nullify ranpo's ability when they first met.
idk what i try to get there, but it's funny we get mind control and even time control abilities but never intelligent related ones.Does it simply not exist? What do you think?
Hi!
Sorry for the long wait :)
I think the reason why we don't get intelligence related powers here is twofold:
An ability that makes you super intelligent would not be very interesting in a series about detectives. We enjoy the characters surprise us with tricks and plans and a character who can do so without really thinking would be boring
It doesn't fit thematically because BSD's abilities are manifestations of the characters' id
The id is one of three freudian archetypes:
the id is where wishes, fears and the instinctive and repressed parts of the self lie
the superego is where ideals, moral and the rational parts of the self are
the ego stands between the id and the superego and balances them
In short, the id is an irrational and partly unconsciouns part of the self, so it doesn't fit intelligence that is for the most part rational and conscious. By this, I don't mean a person can't repress their intelligence. They can and it is exactly what Rampo is built on:
Tumblr media
Rampo represses his own deductive skills by using Fukuzawa's glasses. Symbolically, his talent is to see clearly:
Tumblr media
So, the glasses are a nice item with a double meaning:
Rampo wears them to "see the truth of a case"
Rampo actually doesn't really need them to "see better", so he is really a person with perfect vision, who uses glasses to weaken his sight
In general, though, you will notice what Rampo really represses is his feelings to be different from others. That is the real crux of his character. It is an unconscious aspects, rather than his rational abilities.
Similarly, all the characters have unconscious and repressed aspects that emerge through their skills. This is no surprise because BSD is really a story of reconciliation with the id on 3 different levels.
The individual level:
Tumblr media
Atsushi has to integrate with the Tiger
The interpersonal level:
Tumblr media
Atsushi and Akutagawa have ot integrate with each other (they represent what the other is repressing)
The societal level:
Tumblr media
The ADA and the Mafia must reconcile
Notice that these 3 layers are set-up in the very first arc:
Atsushi is revealed to be the Tiger in Chapter 1
Akutagawa is introduced in Chapter 3
The Arc ends with a first conflict between the ADA and the Mafia
Another example is the end of the Guild Arc, which is kickstarted by this:
Tumblr media
Atsushi discovers the tiger isn't as evil as he thinks. It is simply his will to live (what the id really is). Similarly, he realizes the Port Mafia isn't as one-dimensional as he believes:
Tumblr media
So, Atsushi integrates with the tiger:
Tumblr media
And starts the reconciliation between the ADA and the Port Mafia:
Tumblr media
Which leads to the first sskk team fight:
Tumblr media
As you see, the first big arc is solved with a 3-layer integration. The same will go for the story as a whole.
In the end, Atsushi will completely control his ability, SSKK will save each other and the world and the ADA and the Mafia will work as allies.
This is also why the series is full of Jungian Trios:
Akutagawa (id), Atsushi (superego) and Kyouka (ego)
Chuya (id), Kunikida (superego), Dazai (ego)
The Port Mafia (id), Governement (superego), ADA (ego)
Aku gives in to violence and instinctive wishes and learns to control them through Atsu. Atsu represses his violent side and needs to accept it through Aku. Kyouka has experienced both shadow (the Port Mafia) and light (the ADA) and I think she will mediate between Aku and Atsu in a key moment.
Chuya's skill is the embodyment of the id (a literal God of Destruction) and he will probably grow into the Port Mafia's leader. Kunikida's skill is the embodyment of the superego (it turns idea and ideals into reality) and he will become the ADA's Director by the end. Dazai is a partner of both and will help mediate between them, so that the 2 organizations can work together.
The Port Mafia is the night, the Government is the day and the ADA is the twilight, so what stands between them. In the end, the ADA (Dazai + Kunikida) will need to mediate between the Governement (Ango) and the Mafia (Chuya). So, we have another possible Freudian Trio in Chuya (id), Dazai (ego) and Ango (superego).
These at least are my 2 cents :)
Thank you for the ask!

pretendence - purplesan - 28.9k (11 chapters) the main focus of this one is shin soukokou rather than soukokou but its like a prequel/sequel to the fic mentioned before so ill add it - it does still include skk tho

The Untold Origins are finally getting to be animated and the quality so far is wonderful!!! That's something to celebrate, guys!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Man, it is sure as hell pleasant to see our favourite BSD characters back in action and the story to finally give more development and background to the guys outside of skk and sskk. (Watch me treasure Fukuzawa's screen time, like a bag of sapphires 🤲) So, go my favourite father/son duo! You're doing great, it's your time to shine! I also really liked the way the scenes were adapted, especially the one with Ranpo getting accidentally screamed at, the facial expressions were just perfect, in my opinion 👍
However, as a light novel reader, I know that not everything, unfortunately, had the possibility of being animated. In particular that one hilarious scene in the beginning of the story, where Ranpo gets on Fukuzawa's nerves at a ridiculous level 😌 It's a pity that it didn't appear in the episode, but I don't blame the anime creators, cause I understand that there was simply not enough time for this. That's why I think it would be a nice thing for anime onlys to learn of the scene too. Everyone is out there laughing about the boy being clingy and annoying to Fukuzawa in the anime, however there he's actually barely an inconvenience compared to the little menace he is in the light novel XDDD
"Pacified Ranpo, grumbling about wanting candy - three times.
Gave in and bought him candy - two times.
Was asked how airplanes work — three times.
Convinced Ranpo, whining about his legs being too tired, to keep walking-four times.
Carried him on his back-four times.
Finally, Fukuzawa and Ranpo reached their next destination.
Along the way, Ranpo continued chattering incessantly, asking Fukuzawa for his opinion on various things, and complaining. I hate walking, I'm not cut out for manual labor, moving from place to place is such a waste of time, this is why communication technology was invented in the first place, are we not there yet, I want candy, that brand hasn't been good lately, the quality went down when new management took over, the city sucks, but the countryside sucks even more, I want to go on a sightseeing cruise, I want to feed the pigeons, are we really not there yet, I want candy, why aren't we there yet, I want candy, are you sure we're not taking the long way around-
Fukuzawa did not change his expression even once.
Having trained in and mastered both, the technical and the spiritual aspects of ancient martial arts, Fukuzawa's mental concentration could not be shaken by something as trivial as the cries of a child. It was the fruit of his daily practice. Fukuzawa simply continued to cope, without changing his expression.
As he was coping, indicating that he was listening with an occasional 'mm', on the inside, he was picking up Ranpo and throwing him far, far away. But only on the inside. Tying him up, leaving him on a street corner, and going home. But only on the inside. Opening a manhole cover, making him walk toward it, and upon hearing the whoooosh... splash, closing the manhole cover. But only on the inside. Drafting up fifty plans that all concluded with leaving Ranpo and going home alone. All of this was happening, strictly on the inside.
The more he planned and planned, the more expressionless he became. This way, he was able to keep Ranpo company without flying into a rage or yelling at him.
In the end, he managed to impress Ranpo. After looking at Fukuzawa in surprise for a while, Ranpo said:
"Old man, you're really patient, aren't you?"
That was the most dangerous moment of all. Had there been any vulnerability in Fukuzawa's mental composure, Ranpo would have already been halfway down the manhole.
It was the fruit of his daily discipline.
Thus, having walked for close to two hours, right when Fukuzawa was devising his fifty-first plan (one so violent, it would be a shame to write it here,) finally they arrived at their destination".
Tumblr media
Just look at him. Look at this walking definition of "patience of a saint".

My solution to absolutely everything that troubles me late at night is to yell to the rooftops about whatever has my interest, be it yapping off in my brain or reaching out to my bros. But tonight I decided “here we go I’m giving up my wack ass AU to Tumblr” as my coping skill.
It’s an age swap au mostly centered around DazAtsu (this is your cue to leave if your not here for that) and the 18 Dazai navigating through grief and life in the agency, along side his strange growing feelings towards Atsushi that he just can’t seem to name. the way I see it is that since him and Atsushi have swapped ages, it’s either his past would have taken place much earlier or he would have just skipped the years in hiding and gone straight to the other side like Oda had wished of him.
I’ve actually had two fanfictions written for it so far that have almost NOTHING to do with adjusting to his life because of inconsistency but I will still post the first one as well as the second one hoping I didn’t just copy paste the same exact link twice. Funny story I actually came up with this thanks to taking part in the 2023 DazAtsu week over on twitter before I deleted the app and account, it came with a art piece I’ve featured previously on here, those are (kind of) their designs but those aren’t the updated ones. God now that I’m thinking about it I’ve been cooking this up for MONTHS and haven’t said or done much of anything on it publicly.
Actually while I’m on my tangent here is the doodles, showcasing them mostly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next one is an unfinished piece I made for them
Tumblr media
I leave a lot of things unfinished in terms of both art and writing. But, without further adeiu here’s some little facts I managed to keep bouncing in my pinball machine of a brain:
• Dazai had been in contact with Ranpo after Oda’s death and received an offer to become a detective. While waiting by the iconic river for who he thought was Ranpo intrusive thoughts struck him and he jumped into the water. Atsushi fished him out and gave him his coat.
• he’s been stealing that damn huge coat any chance he gets ever since
• Dazai had one of Oda’s shirts, it became a source of comfort after his friend’s death to the point he just hardly took it off.
• Atsushi’s attire, though hardly professional is actually acceptable considering what his ability does to clothes.
• Yosano, Dazai, and Kyouka all share a close somewhat familial bond over their dealings with the port mafia and Mori. Yosano also has a spare key to Dazai’s dorm incase he relapses.
• Dazai still cannot cook for shit no matter how people try to teach him, not even his mentor crush Atsushi is successful in doing so.
• Dazai always feels intimidated by Fukuzawa, and tries his hardest to avoid eye contact with him afraid he’ll disrespect him.
• the dynamics of skk and sskk are mostly unchanged other than sskk being both wiser between themselves, and skk being two feral little shits that need to be put in cages.
not sure if I mentioned Chuuya and Akutagawa being swapped like Dazai and Atsushi. Oops.
Look at that you got to the end, feels good? Bad? Well you got here anyways. I quite enjoyed rambling to the walls of my enclosure hoping to be given a piece of cheese, I actually forgot about my stresses for a moment whilst i ran to go grab my sketches. ‘Twas nice, happy holidays you crazy people who decided to read this post.
