I still can’t believe there are people who think that Will “I’m not gonna fall in love, just kidding I am in love already but I think I’ve been rejected so let’s rip off the bandaid” Byers isn’t going to get what he wants…in a show whose whole premise started with his abduction and is, by it’s creators own repeated admission, both going to focus on him the final season + about championing the underdog and the outcast.
It really is that simple, because once you know what the Duffers value...even if you haven’t dug that far into the show, it’s obvious where the “it started with Will, it will end with Will” is taking us based on tropes alone, if you listen to anything The Duffers say about their themes and narrative goals.
You don't even need color coding or parallels to other media to sort through it, because outside of any "but it was the 80s" commentary or "they would never break up the flagship couple" talk...Byler is literally just the logical thematic conclusion for Will's arc as the full embodiment of the outcasted, childlike AND the underdog, even if you don't like what they did to get our characters there.
Like? Will is literally the boy who represents the duffers love of being a “child at heart” and taking things you adored from your youth into being a grown up (see: their entire mf show being based on DnD and the media they loved as kids) on top of being a queer, poor, and regularly disrepected character.
He is the textbook representation of the outcast and underdog energy The Duffers love, to the point where you could hardly fit more "marginalized and imperfect" checkboxes into him without making him poc...and yet people actually believe he is going to be rejected not because there is no setup, or because there is no precedence for the storyline but solely because his love interest (who also has a non-conformity storyline and who is already making heart eyes at him) is currently dating a girl...and it would be "realistic" for him to get rejected? ☠️
Not to mention...I haven't even touched on how byler resolves Mike's own thematic issues and it already makes the most sense? Like?
How do you miss the most obvious plot twist setup in history not because its not blatantly set up, but because you’re homophobic? It really does have to be the blindness of heteronormativity thats driving most of this, because if you were a media literate homophobe, you would be screaming at the Duffers for doing it, not denying it’s happening at all. But ☕️

i have literally been unpacking the fukuchi/fukuzawa situation since watching last night and while i feel sorry for fukuchi and i empathize with him and his motives, i still highkey do not LIKE him.
now that we've seen the culmination of his arc, i was right that his major M.O./character trait is to deny people choice, even IF denying people choice is to save them. using the book. using one order. fucking with literal time and space to negate the choices of OTHERS.
and then finally what he pulled with fukuzawa at the end there.
and like? that behavior is SUPER antithetical to BSD's anti-authoritarian core themes as a whole. think about dazai's speech to kyouka...that the only thing people truly have is the ability to make choices and to agonize over those choices.
even by LITERALLY DYING, he's denied fukuzawa the right to choose his role in this. even if fukuzawa can't kill him, he'll die anyway, and burden fukuzawa with a role he DOES NOT WANT, and a choice that he KNOWS will cause him immeasurable pain.
and seriously??? i don't think he would leave that choice to fukuzawa unless he knew there was a high chance fukuzawa would go through with his plan.
(hell, fukuchi's entire relationship with teruko--his closest confidant, the only OTHER person he seems to trust--is based in unwavering, unquestioning loyalty. to the point where she'll kill him JUST because he ordered her to, in spite of the fact that this is literally the last thing she wants to do.)
and like...i definitely don't think the ramifications of fukuchi's actions are over yet whatsoever. like, shit. obviously.
if anything, i think the theme of choice is going to come back around big time. fukuzawa has, uh, some big decisions to make lmao, and i'm hoping that more rational characters like dazai and mori have some bearing on those choices.
more than anything, i'm hoping that ranpo finally asserts himself with fukuzawa and pushes him toward an answer that doesn't involve self-sacrifice.
(this is going to get messy...i'll be surprised if it doesn't.)
i think the best outcome here is the story playing with the idea that humanity is collaborative. no one person should EVER have the power to control others. our actions effect each other, for better or worse. we all deserve to have a say in what happens.
that's literally baked into fukuzawa's character! he says it on screen RIGHT before this happens! so to see him struggling with this is...concerning and painful, even though i genuinely think (I HOPE???) he'll make a rational choice here. even if it's a struggle to make.
but...idk. yeah. i feel sorry for fukuchi, i really do, but i don't think he's a good guy in this story by a longshot.

Hey guys, saw people complaining about felix trying to kiss ladybug without her consent in season 3 and it’s so fine to be uncomfy with it, that was kind of the point, but just wanted to give a little more context bc a lot of people havent seen the episode since it aired like four years ago???
the reason felix tried to kiss ladybug without her consent is he was desperate to get his own amok from hawkmoth,,,, and the only strategy he could come up with was “pickpocket some kinda bargaining chip” (same strategy he used in risk except he implemented it way better that time by knowing how to act respectful and non suspicious)
so he tried to get ladybugs earrings,,,, which he KNEW hawkmoth wanted,,,,,, and he could not beat ladybug in a fight and adrien had something going on with ladybug and its hard to pickpocket earrings,,,,,, so he made a stupid dumb attempt to kiss her to take her earrings that probably wouldnt have worked even if they had kissed,,,, he did not back away when she said “no” because thats not how thievery works,,, like,,,, he was trying to get close enough to pickpocket or mug her,,,, which is Where the issues stem from,,,,
and then he got punched in the face which he Did deserve dont get me wrong, ladybug was so incredible and iconic for that moment heck yeah
however he was not weird about consent to be creepy or whatever,,,, he was just trying to get his amok back and it made him do very dumb and bad things!! This is still bad its just a different Kind of bad with different solutions!!
and his arc is about recognizing that other people are people too,,, not just npcs that he needs to fight to survive,,, and also about realizing that his actions have consequences. Also that being nice to people and learning to listen and respect boundaries is actually helpful and good. This is in fact a very good lesson to teach children. Thank u

obligatory disclaimer:
yeah i know about the fanbook and its massively unfortunate. im really not in support of that kind of age gap in fiction or real life. ive never seen shimamine or minegishi through that lens and i dont plan to start. i want to continue to write aged up version that I'd been writing long before the info was released.
check chapter 2.1 for the ages i established them at like ~7 years before the wd-arc which would put shimamine at about 29 and 30. this comic will have shimamine i'd fully understand if that makes you uncomfortable. i encourage you to block me and i avoid putting overt shimamine content in generic tags.
also, please if you like shimamine while accepting the large age gap i also don't rly want you to follow me. i don't want my work viewed under that lens.
