In defense of Gwen in Across the Spider-Verse

Okay. First of all: This post is gonna be super long and have tons of spoilers so if you don’t want to get spoiled for Across the Spider-Verse then don’t read this post. I have seen way too many people hate on Gwen because of her actions and her behavior towards Miles in Across the Spider-Verse. I’ll show you why that hate completely misses her arc in the movie and her true intentions/relationship with Miles. This post will also delve into Gwiles/Ghostflower since that is a big part of what shapes her intentions.  Many people say Gwen betrayed Miles and doesn’t really care about him. They say Miles shouldn’t forgive her and that she is a snake for what she did. I’ll show you why the opposite is true by going through the events of the movie in cronological order: The movie literally starts off with Gwen talking about Miles. She is drumming away, which is, mentioned by herself, a way for her to cope with her feelings. That opening from Gwen is a small glimpse into her head. We see how she feels and what she thinks. The interesting thing is that it’s basically Gwen broadly narrating the events of the entire movie. We even see glimpses of future scenes in that intro. The line of narration that is most important here is Gwen saying “I didn’t want to hurt him. But I did. And he is not the only one.” This shows us IMMEDIATELY that Gwen did not intend to hurt Miles AT ALL. Quite the contrary. It also shows that she is AWARE she hurt Miles. She knows she fucked up. That is going to be important later on when she needs to make the tough decision regarding Miles/The Spider Society. 

We then follow her as she goes home, still thinking about Miles and then, of course, her Peter. Note that this is roughly 1 year after Into the Spider-Verse. 1 year after she met Miles she still thinks about him daily. “I haven’t really made any friends after that [Peter’s death], except one. But there is no way to get there.” She misses Miles and wishes there was a way to visit him. Obviously she still very much cares and thinks about him.

At Gwen’s home we are first shown what her conflict with her father looks like. That conflict is obviously one of the main aspects of her arc and what drives her actions later on in the movie. You can see it is strained but you can still see that they obviously love each other very much. Gwen struggles as her father is basically hunting her down without knowing its is actually her. What pains her the most, though, is that her father is convinced that Spider-Gwen killed her best friend, Peter Parker. That way he, without knowing, makes Gwen feel guilty about the death of her best friend. Gwen is trying to get over Peter’s death but is held back by her dad, unbeknownst to him. 

Gwen caring and missing Miles a lot is brought up again when she sees the picture of her and Miles that they made in Into the Spider-Verse (which she had made into a polaroid so she can actually have it on her/in her hands). Her eyes look on with sadness and her color is dark blue. The colors in Gwen’s dimension are used to portray her feelings. Dark/blue tones for sadness and light/pink tones for happiness/comfort. At this point, seeing Miles again is probably one of her dearest wishes. Miles understands her and knows who she truly is. This is going to be important later on.

During Gwens fight with Vulture at the Museum we are introduced to Miguel O’hera, Spider-Man 2099, who saves her from Vulture. He introduces himself but Gwen seems unimpressed and uninterested. What she is very much interested in, though, is Miguel’s Dimension Watch. “You can go to any dimension you want with that watch?” She just met an entirely new Spider-Man and all she is interested in is his technology that might allow her to go and visit Miles. That is how much she misses him.

As the duo fight off Vulture Miguel calls for back-up and they are joined by Spider-Woman Jessica Drew. Her and Gwen have an immediate bond which will be very important later on. Gwen immediately looks up to her and sees her as a mentor from who she can learn a lot. Gwen impresses Jessica so much that she asks Miguel if they want to recruit her for Miguel’s Spider-Society. “What about her?” “No.” “Why not?” “You know why.” Miguel and Jessica studied the entire Kingpin collider event. They know who was involved and they know that Gwen and Miles are friends. Miguel doesn’t want to recruit Gwen because she is too close to Miles. Why that is a problem we all know. (Miles being the original anomoly) From the start they knew Gwen’s relationship with Miles might end up jeopardizing their goal of protecting the Spider-Verse.

We then go on to this scene. Gwen confronting her father and her father finding out that Spider-Woman, the vigilante he was dedicated to catching and locking up, is actually his daughter. This is a key moment in Gwen’s arc throughout the movie. Her father accuses her of lying to him. All Gwen wants right now is support from her father. She doesn’t get that, instead her father wants to lock her up for the murder of her Peter Parker. At this point she is immensely conflicted. “I don’t know how to fix this.” Jessica Drew notices that and convinces Miguel to let Gwen join the Spider-Society. 

Gwen seeing no immediate solution to her problem decides to accept the invite. She is not yet ready to confront the problem and walks away from it, despite being conflicted. This will be at the back of her head throughout her entire arc and throughout the entire movie. Until she is ready to confront her dad who, remember, wants to lock her up, she CAN’T return to her home dimension. Her going back would mean her having to confront a problem she is not yet ready to confront. 

The next time we see Gwen is after we are introduced to Miles again. This is Gwen seeing Miles again for the first time after 1 year and 4 months. Her immediate reaction is to tightly hug him. You can, in that hug alone, see how much she missed him. You can also pick up all kind of little things in this scene. One is how awkward Gwen is. She is cringing at herself for telling him he had a growth spurt. There are obviously some unresolved feelings between the two.

Gwen then goes through his sketchbook and finds Miles’ drawings of her. She is surprised to see so many drawings of her but plays it off smoothly. “Missed you too.” It’s obvious that both missed each other immensely. But we haven’t even seen the entire extend of how MUCH Gwen ACTUALLY missed Miles. We only find out about that a bit later.

Miles and Gwen then swing through the city and catch up. Their chemistry is on full display here. I absolutely adore this scene. Gwen tells Miles that the Spider-Society is really strict about where she goes otherwise she would have come to visit him sooner. What’s important here is that at this point Gwen KNOWS about Miles’ “condition”. She knows he is an anomoly and she knows that his father dying is a canon event. And at this time she BELIEVES in these canon events. She thinks they must be upheld or the multiverse collapses. That’s what Miguel told her. 

During their swing Gwen uses a moment in which Miles is distracted to place her surveillance device for Spot. You can see, even with her mask, how much it pains her to keep the truth from Miles nd having to leave him in the dark. We find out: Gwen is not here because of Miles but because she is supposed to catch Spot since Spot is an anomoly. 

What follows is one of the biggest Gwiles moments in the movie and also a very important scene when it comes to Gwen and her feelings towards Miles. They sit down at the Williamsburgh Bank Building and have a heart to heart. 

Gwen tells Miles that it is always so great to talk to him and that he is the only friend she ever really made since Peter died. Miles, knowing about Hobie, says “Other than Hobie, right?” and Gwen answers “That’s different.” This shows us that Gwen’s relationship and feelings for Miles are different from the relationship she has with Hobie. That’s because she literally has feelings for Miles, and she knows that Miles, in some way at least, feels the same. “We’re the same, in the important ways.” Gwen then says a line that literally shows she has fallen for Miles, otherwise there would be no need for her to mention it. “In every other universe Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man.” This is Gwen telling Miles that she has feelings for him. 

Hearing that reassures Miles and he moves his hand closer to hers. 

This is important: Gwen sees this! 

And then closes her eyes and flinches. She flinches because she wants to take his hand so bad that it literally pains her that she can’t. We find out why she can’t with her next words: “And in every other universe it doesn’t end well.” Gwen knows about canon events and knows they need to happen. She was probably being told that Gwen Stacy falling for Spider-Man and it not ending will is a canon event. 

She then gives Miles a look that I can only describe as “loving”. She would probably love to tell him more about canon events and everything regarding the Spider-Society. But like she said: She doesn’t know how to. She doesn’t want to hurt him and she wants to protect him.

Miles then tells her “There’s a first time for everything, right?” which makes Gwen chuckle and smile at him. It’s the first time where Gwen is confronted with Miles’ philosophy of going down his own patch and not bending to the rules of canon. Even if canon dictates something, Miles believes there is always a way. 

This rubs off on Gwen as she affectionately leans on Miles, enjoying the sunset with him.  Not only is this overall scene incredibly beautiful and masterfully animated but its purpose is to show us that these two indeed love each other. They want to be together but Gwen, at this stage, feels like canon is against them.

Miles and Gwen then enjoy some food in quiet and keep talking about the Spider-Society and how Miles wants to be a part of it. Gwen, without being able to tell him the truth, shuts him down and lies to him. Again, she is not ready to tell him everything, the same way she is not ready to confront her father. These 2 conflicts go hand in hand as they are her 2 biggest conflicts that she has to overcome. Gwen then snaps at Miles because he was about to find the surveillance footage of Spot which would therefore uncover her true reason for being there. Gwen obviously doesn’t want that to happen because she doesn’t want to hurt Miles. She wants to keep him away from the Spider-Society because she knows he is an anomoly AND because she knows he wouldn’t be safe there.

After she snaps at him she immediately apologizes though. They both get REALLY close after that, closer than I had remembered from my first viewing. They also lock eyes. I’m pretty sure if not for Rio, Miles and Gwen would have kissed here. Rio interrupts them and they have an awkward talk. Rio and Jeff obviously think there is something going on between Miles and Gwen which is the source of the awkwardness. 

Gwen then gets a signal from her dimension watch which is caused by the explosion that Spot caused. She missed her time window to catch him because she was having so much fun being around Miles. Gwen quickly leaves after that, having to lie to both Miles and his parents. 

You can tell she doesn’t want to leave Miles. She wants to stay, but she can’t. She is conflicted. And she is conflicted throughout the entire movie. That makes her arc so interesting. 

What follows is one of the most important interactions in the movie that show Gwen’s motives. She arrives at the explosion and realizes Spot escaped. Jessica Drew, who Gwen looks up to, remember, calls her and asks her where Spot is. Gwen tries to play the whole situation down, not wanting to be seen as a failure. That has one big reason: Since Gwen is a liability to the Spider-Society because of her connection to Miles she has to constantly prove her worth, otherwise Miguel will send her back to her universe. That is one of Gwens biggest fears. Having to confront her father again. She is not yet ready for that so she basically does everything that is asked of her, even if she doesn’t necessarily agree with it.  Jessica notices that Gwen is nervous and asks her if she visited Miles. Gwen again tries to play it down but eventually admits she went to see Miles. Jessica gets angry with her and Gwen tells her she will never see Miles again. Her voice noticeably breaks when she says that. That interaction tells us one very important point: Gwen was not allowed to visit Miles. AT ALL. Miguel has forbidden Gwen to see Miles. He probably also told her why. Miles is an anomoly and him getting entangled with the Spider-Society might end up badly. And Gwen, knowing all that, knowing she might risk the multiverse, knowing she might risk getting sent back to her own dimension and having to confront her father, STILL decided to visit Miles. That is how much she cares about Miles. She literally risked the stabilty of the multiverse for the opportunity to see Miles again. Even if its only for one evening. This alone should end the debate about how Gwen “doesn’t care about Miles”. She obviously does. A lot. 

This can be taken even further.  “You never made a mistake? Never got too close to someone?” This is literally Gwen telling Jessica that the reason she went to see Miles is because she has feelings for him. Jess replies by saying she did but that she got over it, prompting Gwen to do the same. We, of course, know that she can’t. 

This is one of the most emotional scenes in the movie for me. After Gwens dialogue with Jess she knows her only chance to stay on Miguels good side is to follow Spot to Mumbattan and catch him. She has to leave and knows she will never see Miles again. She longingly looks towards the rooftop she and Miles stood on just moments ago, not knowing Miles is invisible and right in front of her.  She whispers a last “Goodbye Miles” as she heartbreakingly decides to leave. As much as it pains Gwen, she thinks leaving now without explaining anything to Miles might hurt him, but it does keep him safe and away from the Spider-Society. It’s a lose lose situation for Gwen. She is fighting a losing battle. On one side she has Miles and the desire to be with him, on the other side the entire Spider-Verse and the conflict with her father. The fact she is even contemplating shows how loyal she is towards Miles.

Miles follows her through the portal and catches her off guard. Gwen didn’t know he was listening and thought she would never see him again. Miles, being in another universe without a dimension watch, glitches and endangers both him and Gwen. Gwen then says that she “never should have visited” Miles.  She obviously meant the fact that NOW Miles is involved and they can’t go back now. She didn’t want Miles to be a part of it and now regrets that she pulled him into this. She is more angry at herself than at Miles here. 

When the canon event approaches Gwen tries to stop Miles from disrupting it. Again, a lose lose situation for Gwen. She knows (or at least thinks at this point) that disrupting canon events can cause universe to unravel. She also knows how dangerous canon events are and that there is a good chance Miles might die if he tries to intervene. 

Miles, not knowing about canon events at all yet, intervenes anyway. (Because he is Spider-Man, duh) While trying to save Captain Singh and the little girl he gets covered by rubble. Gwen and Hobie go down to the scene and while Hobie immediately helps Pav to pull up the bus Gwen literally makes a dash for the rubble and tries to find Miles. All the while screaming his name, her voice breaking while doing so. The relief in her voice when she finds him alive and well is very noticeable. (Great voice acting by Hailee Steinfeld)

After disrupting the canon event, Miles asks Gwen what she thinks of the situation. Gwen, almost affectionately whispering to him, tells him that she always thinks that he is amazing. Another moment that makes these two get closer and it shows how much admiration Gwen has for Miles. Even after disrupting a canon event, Gwen thinks the world of Miles. This highlights her conflict again. While still believing in these canon events, Miles is slowly but surely changing her mind about them. He is not quite there yet but it’s coming.

We then go the Spider-Society HQ where Gwen introduces Miles to Miguel. Miguel immediately becomes hostile and blames Miles for disrupting the canon event. Gwen knows that Miles did in fact disrupt the canon event but still defends him.  “He doesn’t know any better:” Miles has no knowledge about canon events or anything related to it so he can’t be blamed for what he did. Gwen knows that, which is also a reason why she tried to stop him. 

Miles then finds out about the structure of the Spider-Verse and about canon events. Miles also finds out that Gwen did not only try to save him but also stop him from disrupting the canon event. 

When Miles finds out his fathers death is a canon event that has to occur you can see Gwen frowning. She knew this and now Miles knows it.  There is no easy way to tell that to someone. Not if you’re close friends and not if you haven’t seen each other for a year. It pains Gwen that Miles has to go through that, and on top of that she can relate to it as well, because...

... Gwen’s father is also a Captain who’s death is a canon event. This adds another layer to her inner conflict. She believes in these canon events and therefore also believes that her father has to die. Gwen, in that aspect, is similar to Miguel. She accepts it, runs away from it. Similar to how she runs away from the conflict with her father. 

Miles confronts the other Spider’s and tells them he can’t sit back and let his father die. He then tells Gwen, referencing her earlier statement, that she was right and that she never should have visited her. Miles does NOT say that because he hates Gwen. He says that because he is distraught and because of the fact that if Gwen hadn’t shown up he’d still be in his dimension. (Where he wants to be to protect his father) Gwen starts to cry because this is OBVIOUSLY not how she wanted it to go and how she wanted Miles to find out.  The fact is: There was never a right time or way to explain it to Miles. Gwen isn’t an emotionless puppet that never struggles or is perfect. She loves Miles and she simply couldn’t bring it over her heart to tell him that his father will die and that he isn’t supposed to be Spider-Man. She wants him to be happy and to be safe, and from her perspective the best way to do that is to keep him away from the Spider-Society. 

When Miguel traps Miles to stop him from going home Gwen and Peter get really agitated.  “That’s enough.” “Stop it Miguel.” They don’t want to be on opposite sides to Miles. They want to talk it out. Of course the chance for that is now gone. You can still see that both still very much are on “Miles’ side”. Gwen is put into a situation where she is forced to choose between her friend or the Spider-Society. 

While they chase Miles, Jess confronts Gwen and tells her that even though Miles is Gwen’s friend, capturing him is the only way.  Gwen then tells Jess that that’s not what her gut says. This, again, shows her conflict. She KNOWS she is supposed to be on Miles’ side. It’s what her gut is saying. It’s what her heart is saying. Her head is still thinking that the multiverse must be protected, and that canon events must be stopped from being disrupted.

She then listens to her head and tries to grab Miles with her web. The look on her face says it all. It’s pain, love and an apology all in one. Miles destroys the web, symbolic for their trust.  Miles breaks the net, he is saying that he doesn’t trust Gwen anymore.  Gwen knows that, which is why after Miles breaks the net her look is one of complete sadness and disbelief. Not disbelief because she couldn’t imagine Miles not trusting her but rather diesbelief because she can’t believe it has come this far.

She continues the chase for Miles because she doesn’t know what else to do. When Miguel calls for every Spider-Man after they found out Miles’ location you can see Gwen having a look of dread and defeat on her face. She did’t want it to go this far. She still wants to talk it out and make up with him. She feels sorry and is slowly starting to regret her choices. 

While on the train Gwen and Peter keep calling out to Miguel, telling him that he should stop and to take it easy on Miles. Miguel doesn’t listen.

This scene is where the trust between Miles and Gwen is broken completely. Miles finds out that Gwen knew all along that he is an anomoly and that his father is supposed to die. He finds out that Gwen didn’t know how to tell him that and that that’s one of the reasons she didn’t come to visit him. 

Gwen then tells Miles that its for his own good, a lie she told herself to make her feel better. She full on regrets her choices by now. She knows she made a mistake but feels too distraught to really do anything about it. Her world slowly comes crashing down on her.

Miles is able to overpower Miguel and sends him flying down the train. The way Gwen looks down at Miguel is really interesting. Its a look of pride and relief. She is proud of how far Miles has come that he is able to escape from Miguel and reliefed that he was actually able to.

While Gwen thinks that now the way is free for her and Peter to get to Miles and explain everything to him, Miles just gives them a look of hurt, sadness and betrayal. He then says “Goodbye Gwen”, again mirroring Gwen’s goodbye earlier in the movie. Both were sad but for very different reasons.

The change of expression from Gwen says it all.  This goodbye from Miles, in his eyes, is final. He feels betrayed and hurt and just wants to get home to save his dad. While Gwen and Peter probably want to just talk to Miles and explain everything, Miles may think they want to capture him, too. And Miles can’t take that chance.

After Miles decides to jump Gwen, again, has an expression of relief on her face. This time the relief is because Miles managed to really escape Miguel and the other Spiders. She knows Miles will be safe, for now.

Miles manages to escape and Gwen is furious with Miguel. Furious as to how he treated Miles and how he managed the whole ordeal. 

She speaks up and Miguel blames Gwen for the Spider-Society losing Miles.  This is where Gwen starts to see that she actually doesn’t have the Spider-Societies back and that she should have taken Miles’ side from the beginning. She slowly realizes the true extent of her mistake. 

Gwen then proposes to talk it out with Miles, on her own. Miguel refuses, saying they tried that already.

She goes on to tell that Miles is her friend and is starting to question the whole “Canon event” topic. “Do you know for certain what happens when he breaks the Canon?” She is starting to fully side with Miles. 

Miguel tells her he knew from the beginning that her relationship with Miles was a liability. Gwen looks to Jess for support but doesn’t get it. She is now on her own, same as Miles. 

Gwen gets sent to her home universe, the thing she dreaded most. The last thing she tells Miguel is that they are supposed to be the good guys. That shows where she stands in regards to the conflict inside herself. She now knows that what Miguel and the Society does is wrong.  She was on the Society’s side, now she is on Miles’ side. 

She immediately tries to go to Miles’ dimension but she is locked out from using the dimension watch. Miguel denied her access. Gwen is furious and now trapped in her home dimension. 

She returns home and wants to collect the polaroid of her and Miles. She doesn’t want to confront her father yet, but we all knew it was inevitably coming.

Gwen confronts her dad and opens up to him. She pours her heart out and tells him how she really feels.  Remember, Gwen is a 16 year old girl. She carried the burden of her rensponsibility and the conflict inside her while still always trying to do the right thing.  But she says it best in this scene, “She doesn’t know what right or wrong is anymore.” The entire time she believed these canon events to be absolute and followed through with the Spider-Society’s plans because she thought it was the right thing to do.  In the process she hurt and betrayed the only real friend she had. And that was the straw that broke the camels back. Her intentions are now clear.

“I can’t lose one more friend.” She doesn’t know whats right or whats wrong, all she knows is that she can’t lose Miles. 

During her speech her father decides to quit his job as captain, freeing him from the canon event. This is when Gewn realizes that canon events might not be absolute and that they can be disrupted without dooming the dimension. She realizes Miles might have been doing the right thing all along. 

After making up with her dad the only thing left to do for Gwen is to go and find Miles. With the help of Hobie’s watch that is actually possible now.

Gwen arrives in Miles’ universe and finds out that Miles is in the wrong universe. She overhears Rio and Jeff talk about Miles. They mention Miles lighting up when he is around Gwen and that they hope she doesn’t get him hurt. This is where the full realization of her actions become clear to Gwen. She hurt Miles and didn’t help him when he needed her the most, and she hates herself for that.

She blames herself for what happened to Miles, even though it is not her fault entirely. 

Gwen tells Rio and Jeff that she is going to find Miles and bring him back. She also tells them what she learned from Miles. “All is possible.” This is the lesson Miles gives Gwen in this movie. It is a lesson she needed to learn. She now fully believes that anything is possible. This will come into play in Beyond the Spider-Verse when they are going to try and stop canon events from happening. 

She resolves the conflict with her father, parts ways with the Spider-Society and has only one goal left now: To find and make up with Miles. In her arc Gwen faced the conflict of choosing her friend or the greater good. On one hand is Miles, who she obviously has feelings for. On the other hand there is the Spider-Society who tell her how the multiverse works and how dangerous Miles and other anomolies are. In the end, her friend won, though it was a harsh process that damaged their trust and relationship.  Gwen is not perfect and isn’t always right. She is a 16 year old girl with tons of complex conflicts going on. She fights a constant battle with herself and her feelings. She makes mistakes, as do Miles, Peter, Miguel and the others. The important thing is that Gwen learns from these mistakes.  This also shows that she doesn’t hate or not care about Miles like some people have said. If anything her actions show to which lengths she went for Miles to be safe.  She knows she hurt Miles and is going to make up for it in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Late Primorial Age ancestry

So for those who don't know about this Puyo headcanon blog yet I am @rabbitriceball and I have made a headcanon timeline for the SEGA-era Puyo universe. It only has three ages compared to the infamous Madou Cronology's six: the Primorial Age, the Dawning Age, and the Modern Era (which is its own age). The war between humans and Heaven still happens, but it is different...let me just sum up history prior to this point.

Universe comes to existence, cosmic force comes to existence and expands universe, cosmic force creates a manifestation of itself in the form of a young girl, a goddess and god become born and fight each other, girl breaks up the fight and the two end up creating the Primorial Puyo Puyo world, angels are born, girl creates her brother as a companion, humans are born, the Constellation Zone is formed, some guy manages completes a decade long journey to the edge of the universe and gets awarded for it, Puyos come to exist, and what becomes Ringo's world becomes linked to the Puyo world.

and then the war happens.

As I said, what happened during the war is different to the Madou Chronology. First off, Dark Prince (Lucifer, as he was known back then) still participated in the war and managed to lose a few times and got cast out of heaven after the war ended as a result. Speaking of Lilith, she doesn't participate in the war at all. In this timeline, she was a child when this happened.

Anyway onto the ancestry, the thing that the title states to have. Marle and Squares aren't on here, they're obviously still here, and they've been around long before the war began. Carbuncle and Dark Prince/Lucifer exist around this time too, so they're not listed here either. Most of these guys live in like a village that existed before Arca or Primp did, and none of the residents there partake in the war. The Goddess of the Sun and God of the Moon also aren't taking sides and in fact were trying to find away to stop the war from happening.

Arle Nadja ← Lilith (quite the obvious one. Would end up helping the Goddess and God find a way to end the war and puts herself on a fetch quest for the Seraphim Orb)

Original demon (Cyan & Crimson Spirit's original form) ← A demon that the Goddess was once friends with. Would birth the demon that would split off into Sig's ancestor and Possesed Klug.

Amitie ← Goddess of the Sun (Would end up using the Seraphim Orb to split the world in to at the cost of her physical form. She regretted "dying" this way)

??? ← God of the Moon (rumors say he still exists in his true form, but he was grieved by the loss of the Goddess. He holds no grudge towards Lilith, since the Goddess brought her "death" on herself, and there are rumors circulating about a reincarnation existing in the present day somewhere...)

Klug ← A guy that wanted to write a famous book in ancient times.

Ms. Accord ← A teacher that Lilith went to to learn magic spells.

Lemres ← A wandering merchant who runs the only store in the village, much like the shopkeepers in Madou Monogatari. Like his descendant, he likes making sweets to give to people, which in this case is traditional Japanese sweets like dango and monaka.

Rulue ← A previous Fighting Queen.

And I think that's it until I can think of some more.

Have you ever seen The Godfather saga rearranged for tv for the 40th anniversary? The story is in cronological order and there are all the cut scene inside the movie. Plus Michael's kiss with Apollonia is from another point of view due to censorship (Happy Birthday a few days late: https://im2.ezgif.com/tmp/ezgif-2-94b58abf9d.gif). It's really hard to find, 'couse there are no DVD version. The story itself is clearer but the film loses some of its art, in my opinion. Still worth it.

Ooh, no I don’t think I have! 😳 I wasn’t even aware there was a 40th anniversary edition unless it went by a different name. But thank you. 😂❤️✨ I’m not too surprised surprised by the censorship part either. When my hyper fixation was just starting one very fine day💀 I was watching it on TV while on vacation and the scene of Michael and Apollonia was edited/cut in a way that Michael approached her, they exchanged some looks, then they embraced (so no NSFW), there was also no Sonny and Lucy having a heated moment in the bathroom towards the beginning as well.

Tbh I think there’s too many cuts of TGF… 😅 I don’t know anybody whose watched all 3+ hours with the deleted scenes in it and went “yeah, this should have been cut. Meh.” Because the story and everything in it is so fucking good. Francis didn’t need to make anything more clear and I heard (not sure if this is true) that James Caan was upset because 40 minutes worth or so of footage with him in it was cut. I would gladly watch every and any scene, no need to cut anything!! ❤️ With films like that, THE MORE, THE MERRIER! 😭

My writing: I've three stories that i want to write in the future but only one im currently working on. That story is still very young and in its beta stages. I have a light idea of the plot and world but nothing sharpened to perfection yet. It's a character focused adult fantasy which focuses of two friends(Alex and Kel) whose relationship evolves to something far deeper than a romantic one. It explores a relationship that could have been beautiful in a perfect world but because of the corrupt and rotten world they live in and the different roles they have to play in it and their own inherent flaws, their relationship is always at risk of succumbing to that darkness and turning toxic. And the first book (yes there are more than one books that cause i got carried away) is really them fighting against their respective destinies and denying the roles the world has already decided for them and trying to stay together throughout it all even though they come from different worlds. And there is so much more details about the world it is set in and and the magic system which is so inyegral to the story but this post is alreqdy long enough so ill stop here. Let me know if you wanna here about it and ill go off. [[I cut your snippets here because it feels strange posting other writer's writing without it being innately linked to them and I'm not sure you'd want me to do so. But I did read them]] Ill stop now cause otherwise ill just keep going and this post will never end. This project is really close to my heart and im really proud of what ive written so far. Ahahaha, it sounds like you took a lot of inspiration from Sherliam and/or a lot of very specific Dynamics in fiction that I can certainly think of but not necessarily name. Of course, Sherliam started and ended quite cute and wholesome for how it seemed to go, and I'm not sure that's what you're intending with your stuff.

I tend to be a very chronological writer because if I don't, I don't really end up with anything written that makes any sense; I sometimes will write various bits of scenes or make notes about future things out of order and inevitably by the time I get there, it doesn't work anymore.

Outlines hate me. But a lot of stories are non-linear even by the time they're finished. I'm not sure if that's what you're doing, but it could be.

Anyway, Kel and Alex seem cute and the orphanage-y thing Kel is in is fascinating from your snippets. Am a little interested in when most of the story takes place, though, because they seem to be smallish kids but the writing doesn't seem like a story for/about smallish kids. Hmmmm.

So i've been a Marvel fan for a while and Tony Stark is one of my main confort characters in all the fandoms I'm into. The reason I'm writing this is 'cause i recently noticed because of other posts that some people have issues with him for making a transphobic joke and a rape joke, from which the first one i get but the second one i find hard to pin point, tho I think they refer to iron man 3 in the party with Maya. As a non binary person who would never tolerate transphobia in real life, i think that what is most prominent in Tony's arc is that he used to be an asshole and a clueless moron but started to work towards becoming better once he realised what he was doing, which is a change that starts to be seen more since like after the first Avengers movie, with which I'm basically trying to say that, in my opinion, you can like Tony despite that because he isn't that person anymore. He isn't defined by that because he's whole thing is trying to change for the better and facing the consequences for his actions. Also, cronologically, after the transphobic joke in iron man 1,from what I know, he hasn't done any of the sort again so that should mean something i guess.

Sorry about this, I'm not sure i got my point across, its just that I saw a post saying that he wasn't wanted as part of the bisexuals because of those and i love the idea of Tony being bi as a bisexual myself and i guess i just had to get this out of my mind. I'm not trying to speak for everyone cuz the jokes were certainly distasteful and if you don't like him because of that that's fine. I just needed to rant. Sorry again.

Niall has said hbw tells the story of a relationship in cronological order, however he also mentioned not all the pov’s of the songs are from the same person. My interpretation is that heartbreak weather is about two people and their current relationship but it also talks about the other relationships those two people had before that shaped the way they are and interfere in their current relationship. let me explain

album starts with the title track, heartbreak weather. this song tells the very beggining of the relationship, how they met and how does this person makes the protagonist feel, like the whole world is changed and they’re finally feeling love again 

they’ve always been in a heartbreak weather mood, they always end up heartbroken with every relationship, but this new person makes them feel a new hope, it’s different this time, so different in fact that our protagonist dreams of getting married 

why is an album about being so in love to the point of getting married called heartbreak weather then? well, because not everything is so bright, and the protaginist starts doubting their partner’s loyalty. however, this is not the first time it happened, and the protagonist tries to look for patience inside of them. 

they’ve been hurt too much in the past already, and now they want to have patience with their new partner, and stop their anxiety from taking control. but the patience doesn’t come in the end, and in bend the rules, the protagonist’s openly speaks about their concerns and suspicions. 

bend the rules is actually a great song. the protagonist knows somethings up but they don’t have proper proof. their partner is technically not cheating, but they’re not playing with the rules of the game. this also introduces the first relationship outside the main one, the secret one the protagonist suspects their partner is having.

things get confusing from here, because in each song we switch pov’s and introduce new players to the story, and this is why it can be hard sometimes to understand the story this album tells. the next song, small talk, is not from the same pov we’ve been on since the beggining. this person who’s singing isn’t heartbreak weather, but their partner, who’s singing about this other person, who they clearly have a past with, and they can’t believe they’re not together anymore. 

the partner know they shouldn’t cheat with hbw but the temptations are too much to ignore. just like hbw doesn’t control their patience, their partner doesn’t control their desires to be with this person (who, according to the rest of the lyrics and the lyrics from bend the rules, we can assume it’s an ex- so, there’s a past relationship interfiering with this new one)

in nice to meet ya, we switch back to heartbreak weather’s pov. they notice how others stare at them, how they flirt with them and they allow themselves to flirt back. they’re meeting new people, but they come and go. Niall also said the inspiration for this song came entirely from the sound rather than the lyrics, so to get the vibe we need to pay attention to the main guitar riff (so no lyrics here, although you can check them out because they’re sexy)

but then, we get to pallom. the protagonist is heartbroken, and so is their partner, because they both love each other but they are confused about their relationship

the protagonist still loves their partner, and begs for one chance to show them their love. now, Niall has said this is a breakup song. If we take that in mind, whats left of the album can be considered the different phases we go through a break up. For me, personally, this isnt a break up, but a turning point in the relationship, where hbw knows they’re confused but they assure their partner they still love them a lot. so, if this is not a break up song, what do the rest of the songs mean then? this is my interpretation, which is not the original meaning niall intended to, so i’ll try to explain

in arms of a stranger, a first look into the lyrics lays out a pretty simple song: hbw tries to be with other people but can’t stop thinking about their ex. BUT if we follow the storyline where they didn’t break up, this song turns much much darker: hbw and their partner try once again to make it work, but the protagonist doesn’t feel the same energy in their partner. they’re not the same person, they’re different now. For the protagonist, their partner feels like a stranger and not who they used to be. 

In Everywhere, we see how hbw starts to feel persecuted by their partner, they can’t stop thinking about them, knowing that they’re probably out cheating on them. hbw reconsiders leaving them, but everyone agrees they’re meant to be together, no one knows about their fights and the cheating and the secrets. to the rest of the world, they are a perfect couple, but the truth is chasing the protagonist everywhere. 

then comes my fav song of the album, cross your mind. this song is the textbook example of my favourite type of songs: sad lyrics with upbeat tones. in this song, hbw sings once again about how their partner is cheating on them, but the upbeat tone lets you know the protagonist is not as anxious about it as before. now, it’s a game they play, they pull and push the rope of their love and both of them know the other is not being faithfull to the relationship. but... who is the protagonist cheating on their partner with?

niall explained that no judgement, the next song, is about an old friends with benefits he has, someone who he always comes back to. the protagonist (who, let’s remember is not niall himself) is having an affair with someone from their past (just the same way their partner is also doing). now, is this song sang from hbw’s pov? no. this song isn’t sang by the protagonist or their partner, but by this old lover who the protagonist is cheating on with. this old lover conforts our protagonist, tells them they wont jugde them, and receives them with open arms and no strings attached. thats why no judgement sounds so refreshing and fun, it makes me think of bright colours like yellow and orange, becuase this song is from a person outside the story we’ve been following. 

now, we reach San Francisco, one of the best songs in the album. why? because its a duet, a ballad. this song is sang by heartbreak weather -our protagonist- and their partner. they’re both tired of this game, and dream about the beggining of their relationship, about the time they met, about how they danced together and even loved each other to the point of getting married. this song reflects what they want, their thoughts. They miss the past and wonder if they can go back to it...

however, it’s now what it ends up happening. in Still, the protagonist voices this thoughts to their partner (if you pay attention, you can see the lyrics are very similar) but it doesn’t go out the way they want. hbw wants to give this relationship a third chance, but their partner knows it won’t be the right thing, and that nothing would change. they both want to go back to the start, but the partner knows it wont happen, so they say no, and now they officially break up, for once and for all. 

now, the analysis would end here, right? but there are 2 more songs in the album. if we follow the official narrative (niall’s narrative) the story is over with still, but in my narrative (camila’s narrative, the better narrative) we need to close this up a little bit. and here’s when dress comes up.

in Dress, the protagonist finally for once accepts that this relationship has to end, that they need to let go of this person. thats what the dress symbolises, ITS A METAPHOR Y’ALL

and we finish with Nothing, which is in my opinion the song that best represents Niall. our protagonist is, once again, back to the beggining, hopping from bar to bar, partying, drinking. they’re a tiger, and the only thing that could tame this tiger is a new lover. our protagonist is back to being themselves, they’re back in the heartbreak weather.

AND THATS IT, i got so tired of adding the lyrics so sorry about that :/ but go listen to heartbreak weather with this narrative in mind and you’ll see it’s much much much more satisfying than the original story, or at leats it adds more depht to the songs and it makes them more diverse and fun.

1. What inspired you to write the fic this way?

this fic is written mostly traditionally tbh - its cronologically told, in third person and mostly from one pov which is (and will be) feclicity. however, i have changed my mind about a lot of things since i started the fic - for one, i want to incorporate the whole ‘unreliable narrator’ thing a lot more. i want to use flashbacks more carefully: playing with timelines in how cetain present time events triger past moemories that illuminate the REASON behind present time choices. things like that. 

the real inspiration for the fic itself was another fic i read -  I've Never Truly Loved (Until You Put Your Arms Around Me) by theirhappystory. And the fact that i read that fic ... while i was on a boat... while there was a storm. a small one BUT STILL. 

2: What scene did you first put down?

Whatever Walks Here, Walks Alone - aka oliver looking at felicity in the lair. by itself this scene could fit anywhere from the begining of season 1, to anywhere in season 2. i didnt really write it with a timeline in mind. it was mroe like me pondering the characters. 

3: What's your favorite line of narration?

i had a LOT of fun - unexpected fun - writing Diggle’s pov in teh whole situation. you see, when i started the story the first thing i wanted to figure out was where do i want the characters to end up in relation to each other - so that i could start the story with them being in the diametrically opposite  spot! but then i realized that i also want contrast within the trio - and where oliver and felicity move towards each other at a glacial pace, john and felicty have a much more easy time understanding where the other stands. like... they vibe. and it had a lot o fun planing out that vibe - and all teh ways it pisses off oliver, in the begining. 

4: What's your favorite line of dialogue?

To answer this i would have to go back and re-read a lot of what i wrote and plan to write, but there is a line that STAYS with me and its one felicity says. 

so - in the show, the trio do eventually find out that the Gambit was sabotaged and did not just sink. Now - in Shipwrecks - this would have  a major devastating effect on felicity, who was in the gambit with oliver and sara. And she is the one that has the hunch that moira was involved (i think this happens in canon too?) - and she pushes oliver about it. Bc ofc she thinks of moira as just another person. Worse even - a person who hurt her. At this point she is MANIC about it and it freaks oliver out. Like, take the natural defensiveness he has against the idea and add a fear that felicity might genuinely kill his mother, and you get him being very agressively AGAINST felicity following moira anywhere. and when felicity understands that oliver has no intention of pursuing a what she sees as a genuine lead about the event that practically ruined them as people, she just, shuts down, makes a disgusted face, thinks of all the ritch fuckers she’s known and framed and used and how they close ranks when their reputation or personal interest is touched and just, blurts it out.  

 ‘you fucking people.’ 

5: What part was hardest to write?

all of it lmao. like WRITING IT. 

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

The fact that i planned it out and it has like, different installments and a whole journey, which is one of losing oneself, understanding that ones self has been lost, seeing vengence for that loss (aka giving in/facing the anger it causes), seeking freedom, going against ones impulses to build better ones, building relationships, mantaining them, finding ones self through small acts of kindness towards ones self, rebuilding ones personality

basically i wrote a journey about getting out of depression and grief, before i realized that THAT was what i was actually writing about. 

7: Where did the title come from?

The title of the series is pretty straightforward: they were shipwrecked and now theyre coming back. 'above the vaulted sky’ is a line from a I am, by John Claire.  

I am—yet what I am none cares or knows;My friends forsake me like a memory lost:I am the self-consumer of my woes—They rise and vanish in oblivious host,Like shadows in love’s frenzied stifled throesAnd yet I am, and live—like vapours tossedInto the nothingness of scorn and noise,Into the living sea of waking dreams,Where there is neither sense of life or joys,But the vast shipwreck of my life’s esteems;Even the dearest that I loved the bestAre strange—nay, rather, stranger than the rest.I long for scenes where man hath never trodA place where woman never smiled or weptThere to abide with my Creator, God,And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept,Untroubling and untroubled where I lieThe grass below—above the vaulted sky.

It’s a rather sad one actually, but i read it as a poem about hope. About the dream of hope, anyway. And this need to be away - from what is known because at this point what is known is horrible and the only happiness the imagination can come up with, is to be as far from it as possible and alone. and that is very much where felicity starts out with. With her hope not being about peace, but an isolation in stillness because that is the only good place she can imagine. 

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

It did. I’ve been depressed and strugling with horrendous issues of self worth and anxiety since i was about 14. And i never knew. It literally took me turning 28 to realize what the fuck was wrong. And its depressing (lol) because its just so much fucking time that i wasted, you know. And i remember - like, when i was deep in my depression - i used to think all the time ‘I must have been a real life person once. Like, an actual person, with a personality, and likes and dislikes and feelings - but i dont remember her. I dont know who that girl even is, i woudlnt regognise her at all.’ It felt like some part of me had died. Like there was literal murder involved. Cause so little of me survived. 

but it turns out, i have been this way - just less intensely (and in some cases a lot MORE intensely) since i hit puberty. i didnt die - i just got worse and did not deal with it at all.  

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

not really. not yet, anyway. 

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

im actually not sure that i do want oliver-felicity for this sotry. the dynamic between felicity and tommy is also very veyr interesting. and i dont really know where i will take them. especially in the first and second story, their connection is intense. but this is also part of teh slowburn - oliver and felicity, however it happens, its gonna be slow. 

11: What do you like best about this fic?

how personal it is to me, and my experience. and the fact that, if i write it well, i might actually be sayin something. 

12: What do you like least about this fic?

THE FACT THAT I HAVENT WRITTEN IT YET T_T

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

PHEW I have whole playlists i built as i was ordering this whole series. with songs that fit the mood, the direction of the storytelling and all. 

14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?

I genuinely want people to see this as a story about healing.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

i havent written all of it yet - but i did learn something very interesting about myself. that i have been putting my trauma into narratives to deal with it looong since i knew that was a thing, or i was even aware that i was doing it. 

and on that depressing note, i will end this post and start a new one for the other stories lmao

Gyeongju, golden city!

Day 1-part 1

On monday we woke up early to take the bus to Gyeongju, it's a four hour bus ride amd i had to pee for three of those hours and they only went to one rest stop when only one hour was left. I had to concentrate every cell in my body to not die. Haha anyway when we arrived it immediatly felt so different from Seoul and every other city I've been to, it was wide and spacious and most of the land is farm land.

We rented a scooter cause why not and the adventure began by T as always not reading the map correctly, not listening to me when i told him the Thombs were the opposite direction whe wanted to go and then halfway through realizing he was wrong i was right and i am always right because i can actually read maps really well, They're mostly visual and i am a very visual person. After me bragging the whole way there we arrived to the Royal thombs.

The thombs are mounds, which makes we wonder what was up with ancient humans and wanting to make thise type of shaped thombs, closer to heaven? Maybe

This thomb is Cheonmachong, they k ow a little more of this thomb than the others because they found some covers engraved with a golden celestial horse. This is from the time of Silla which is a looong time before even Christ was born, i cant really wrap my brain on the cronological time line but yes.

The pink thingies, it rained before this so thats why on T's picture its clear and behind me its clowdy cause the sky was being a bitch but there was a rain bow so cool (of you think oh she looks cold and tired...you are right also the sun was in my eyes and unlike T who likes to brag thag his small eyes protect him from the sun -his words not mine- my eyes do not do that )

This is, if i remember well the first observatory in east Asia.

Then we went to thes Square pagoda thats very old but i cant exactly remember how old, i do know that the Japanese rebuilt it when they occupied Korea ..not sure it it was during the last occupation but yeah that surprised me because when they were here they liked destroying more than anything else. I dont say this as a biased diss but the Japanese imperial army liked reminding they were in control and burnt many buildings they didnt like and other mean stuff but anyways yes the rebuilt this one. The bell you can ring it for health.

The Memorable Moments of Season 2

RHOSLC’s second season is different from the rest of the other shows. Lately a lot of shows has been struggling with giving us solid and entertaining seasons. 

But RHOSLC was long, eventful and memorable. Its storylines were infuriatingly confusing, entertaining and scandalous.

True, it was really slow in the beginning before they got into the juicy storylines. But there’s always some type of comedy on this show. From Whitney Rose’s poor cake to Mary Cosby’s nutty confessionals. 

And I want to highlight some of the most memorable moments on season 2. Here they are in a cronological order:

Whitney dropping the cake three times!

This moment from the season premiere was so chaotic, it made me laugh so hard. 

This is the most chaotic group of housewives on Bravo at the moment, but even if their drama isn’t in focus, their comedy saves the day. 

Mary, Jen Shah and Heather Gay are very funny housewives with funny oneliners and confessionals that continues to entertain me. 

And sometimes, that’s more important than their drama.

The caterer mess with Angie Harrington

I know that Angie Harrington isn’t the most popular friend in the fanbase. She hosted a charity event for the LGBTQ+ community and there’s rumors that she outed her stepson without his blessing. 

And then there was the accusation that Lisa Barlow had sabotaged the charity event with the caterers. And the storyline disappeared suddenly, as did Angie.

Whitney and Heather are the only ones spending time with Angie these days. 

Maybe it would be interesting inviting Angie back for season 3, especially as there’s bad blood between her and Lisa. 

But Lisa really needs a new friend for season 3, and not another foe. 

The fake storyline with Jennie Nguyen

The newbie on RHOSLC was a disasterous casting choice by Bravo, as they either didn’t do enough background check on her or they simply didn’t care. 

One thing was the sister-wife storyline that was exposed as a fake storyline. But the racist posts about the BLM movement Jennie Nguyen had shared on her social media was a scandal for Bravo! 

They kept calling the posts “old”, but they really weren’t. Her last racist post was allegedly in december 2020 and they started filmed a couple of months after that. 

Bravo obviously had to fire her, but she should’ve never been hired in the first place. 

It would seem like this scandal affected the rating of the show too. Bravo can’t afford to do this kind of poor judgments.

The “Little Girl” fight between Whitney and Mary

I'll remember this as one of the season’s most memorable moments, especially with the repercussion this fight had. 

Whitney had failed to pick up Mary’s phone calls, and Mary decided to punish her by giving her another dresscode than the others. 

Whitney wanted to address the issue, and Mary wasn’t interested in talking to her. When Whitney refused to let it go, Mary went off on her and called her a “little girl”! 

And Whitney immediately betrayed Mary by implying that her church was a cult.

The Feds are at the Beauty Lab parking lot

This was the moment I was looking forward to the most, and it was so surprising that this storyline didn’t dominate the entire season!

I gasped, I had goosebumps, it was an amazing episode. It’s certainly a Housewives first; feds swarming production, looking for a housewife.

The two episode about the trip to Vail will be remembered as some of RHOSLC strongest episodes, with real chaos, shock and raw emotions on display in front of the cameras.

Besides, we’ll never forget about where they were when the feds showed up. Heather’s dramatic question is imprinted on our minds forever: 

“How did the feds know that you were at Beauty Lab?!”

Lisa confronted Mary about her church

Cultgate was another storyline they failed to follow and give any resolution to. This turned out to be more fascinating than the Shahrrest and it’s disappointing that we didn’t get any real answers to the questions and claims. 

Lisa was the one who started this storyline with bringing Cameron Williams on the show, and she hoped the others would do her dirty work.

There was a pattern with Lisa this season. She kept talking with a housewife in private (both Mary and Meredith Marks) and it’s as if to spin the narrative and direct blame away from her.

That chaotic lunch in the International Peace Garden

Jennie hosted a Pho lunch at the International Peace Garden and chaos erupted at the table. This proved that this is the most dysfunctional and chaotic cast in the Real Housewives franchise at the moment. 

Jen was absolutely right with her description of that lunch: 

“You guys are fighting over who said the most worst thing about me.”

But not only were they fighting about who said what in Vail, but this was also the turning point where the relationship between Jennie and Mary went from bad to worse.

A lot of fans accused Jennie of constantly talking to Mary with a black accent and rolling her neck. Self-righteous as Jennie is she denies it all, which only infuriated the fans more. 

But this was also where Mary had a hilarious Fraudian slip of the tongue with Jen:

“I pray to God you’re guilty... that you’re innocent!”

The sprinter van rides from hell!

The sprinter van and poor sprinter van driver, Kevin, was almost the 8th housewife this season, as he was a part of the iconic drive to Vail and the chaotic drive to Zion. 

Maybe, instead of paying a homage to the ice castles where Jen and Heather made up as the set for the reunion, they should have used the sprinter van as the inspiration.

I’m joking, but I wonder if these housewives are willing to get into Kevin’s sprinter van in season 3 - or if Kevin will still be in business, as he no doubt suffers from PTSD after driving this chaotic group of women.

Lisa’s hot mic moment about Meredith

I still struggle to understand what really triggered that rant from Lisa. She said the most horrible things about her so-called best friend Meredith, just because she didn’t have her back? Unbelievable. 

The women had seen the last episodes of the season right before the reunion, so the wounds was still fresh for Meredith. 

She was slowly, but surely making her case about how she had supported Lisa this season, to prove that Lisa’s justification for that rant was baseless. 

As Meredith also pointed out, Lisa spoke poorly about her entire family - and if it’s one thing Meredith has proven this season, it’s that she’s very protective of her family.

I honestly don’t know what this mean for the friendship between Lisa and Meredith. Is this the end for the two besties?

The harrassment of Mary at the season finale

The sad conclusion of the season and the last we got to see of Mary, was Jennie throwing a glass at Mary and nobody defended her.

And it really spoke volumes that nobody defended her or held Jennie accountable for her aggressive behavior. 

On the contrary, it looked like Heather was egging Jennie on to continue to follow Mary and harrass her. 

And Jen and Lisa was making jokes about throwing glasses, as it wasn’t a hostile action against another housewife who clearly felt iced out of the group.

It was an ugly moment, and what made it even more infuriating was how they all swept it under the rug at the reunion.
