honestly i hate how that “maybe the curtains are just blue” post has become shorthand for anti-intellectualism and shit bc as someone who has an utter passion for media analysis now, I WAS THAT PERSON IN HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH CLASS.
english class never taught me how to analyze stories, it taught me how to remember what things the teacher said were “symbolism” and how to take quizzes where we had to match a quote to the character who said it. i didn’t give a shit about any of it, bc literally why should i. it was bullshit.
there’s this idea online that people are forgetting or rejecting what they learned in english class when they’re bad at media analysis, and maybe that’s a little bit true, but i think the much bigger problem is they never learned it in the first place. cinemasins & “maybe the curtains are just blue” aren’t convincing people to abandon an intellectualism they already had, they’re filling a void.
when all you learn in high school is to write on the test “blue = depression”, why is it surprising that so many people don’t give a shit about the curtains.

some people are still surprised by the acts of Peterson here,like...do u have eyes?
he's being STALKED by a journalist here
who takes photos of him out of context
and tries to expose him for shit (which the cult did) he has actually nothing to do with, because he's busy trying to protect his last remaining family member (EVERYONE fucking forgets this and I'm so mad)
bitches literally try to cancel Peterson while he's just mindin his own business like always
also,if he wanted to murder anyone,he'd have done so. early on. he doesn't want to cause harm, but he's not tolerating people around his family.

feeling insane abt javert again.
he is a fascinating character to analyze + compare against valjean + is such an interesting personification of the faults of the french legal system, of the way lawfulness can become twisted when not tempered by mercy. dedication to the flawed human construct of justice versus dedication to the religious concept of mercy + forgiveness.
but. more importantly: javert is fucking hilarious. his sense of humor is so dry + off-putting. he takes himself so seriously but his comments are so jarringly silly. i adore my fucked up little plot device of a man.

Speaking of Watcher instincts, and thinking about the Entity Grian built - Watchers have an endoparasitic larval stage and Grian built a base that had an inside made to seem meaty and gave it a heartbeat with a conduit. That's probably creepy and kind of gorey feeling to most Players, but comforting to Watchers.
Grian, blithely practicing colour theory:

“HOLD ON, HOLD ON, HOLD ON. His ROOMMATE was a guy, right? And what was his roommate? A GUY, it was fucking Skinny Pete, bro. You're gonna look at me and you're gonna tell me that I'm WRONG? Am I wrong? They had matching chairs and he bought Badger Tommy Hilfinger for Christmas, Doug. Grow up bro, grow up."

I think one of the objectively funniest (in a tragedy-irony-way) things about Crowley is that to us the audience we are so very aware that he is so in love it makes him the stupidest idiot on the planet but like if you see his behavior from Aziraphale’s perspective????
Crowley, doing his damnedest to protect Aziraphale without letting Aziraphale know + following behind him all the time (looking at you, Prepping for The Bookshop Ball arc!!!!) literally just means that Aziraphale is off in his own little world doing his own little tasks like playing matchmaker and detective and newspaperman, with literally 0 idea that Crowley is gagging for it every day of the week
(hence: “you’re being silly!” Instead of him being like “oh dang crowley’s actually bothered” like when Crowley “plays it cool” and us as the audience is like “oh he’s faking!” Aziraphale is not the audience and it kinda works on him!!! He‘s busy with his detective work he doesn’t have time to notice that Crowley is being weird when Crowley’s always vague and kinda weird by default to him!!!)
like that’s comedy babes I’m sorry it’s so funny to me
RIP Crowley unfortunately you must learn to tolerate the mortifying ordeal of being known even if that means aziraphale stops thinking you’re cool and mysterious
