So there's south india and there's north india and there's north east india. north india is very racist about south india and they're both very racist about north east india. Most of these people are also probably racist either to other countries or they have internalised racism. It's a wild trip.

There are. A lot of languages here. And a LOT of scripts. I can read two scripts, understand four Indian languages and speak in two of them (badly), and those two are not my native tongues. I cannot speak in my native tongues. It's basically English at this point. These aren't dialects, those are separate. Picture like, Europe, but more, in terms of how many languages.

Everyone hates each other which is valid for the entire planet honestly.

In south india we have a lot of coconuts. Like a lot. There are so many coconuts you have no fucking idea guys you cannot escape the coconuts. I was nearly killed by a shower of coconuts when I was 5 I escaped by one second.

There are also cows. People will tell you that you are being racist when you say India has cows everywhere. But it's true. Two weeks ago I had the pleasure to be stuck in a traffic jam. Next to the street barrier thing (what divides a street im too drunk for this) I saw a huge bull fucking HUMPING a cow. The vehicles just had to move around them. They were having sex right there.

If you're a middle class Indian kid, your career options are: doctor, engineer, scientist, CA, lawyer, government official or family disappointment.

Needless to say, I was going to be doctor and am now instead family disappointment. I'm babygirling so hard it's insane. The prodigal son.

went down a deep rabbithole of thinking about blorbos, and my SWTOR blorbo is Quinn, so... I made him a little family :3 I like to think about them interacting with my Sith Warrior, Nes'ria, who also has a decently-sized family, so when she and Quinn get married it's just a huge clan now lmao

All of them except for Rymar are OCs; Rymar we know the name + rank + death of from the SWTOR Encyclopedia under Quinn's entry. I did make up what I think he looks like, though.

miscellaneous facts about the Quinn clan that I couldn't fit in the headshots:

Solesta has a dislike of droids, finding them creepy. She also dislikes cybernetics and cyborgs. Ironically, and unbeknownst to her, her grandson Malavai will eventually end up with a woman whose family owns a large cybernetics company.

Solesta disappeared during a top secret mission when Malavai was around 15 years old. She and her crew were declared officially dead a year after her ship disappeared.

Solesta's husband passed when their kids were young. I imagine he was on track to being a rising star in the Imperial military, but he was cut down by a Jedi or something.

Rymar and Ridal are twins (Rymar is the older one).

Ridal disapproved of Rymar’s marriage to Mianna, believing she was too fragile for him. Despite this, she helps her son care for Mianna.

Ridal is lowkey disappointed that neither her son nor her nephew followed her footsteps into Imperial Intelligence. She doesn't know Halic refused to, given what happened to his father (murdered by a petulant Sith Lord). At least in the medical corps, any Sith he deals with are unconscious or too weak to threaten him.

Halic calls Malavai his baby cousin, despite only being a few months older than him. It annoys Malavai, who nonetheless reciprocates Halic's familial affection.

Halic jokingly complains that Malavai slept with a Sith before he could. He privately thinks Malavai is insane for falling for a Sith in the first place, and worries about his cousin (he later learns he doesn't have to, given Nes'ria's equal devotion to Malavai).

Halic has flirted with every member of Nes'ria's crew. Vette thinks he's a riot, Jaesa was flattered but embarrassed, and Pierce is debating sleeping with him to piss off Malavai.

Mianna witnessed her husband's death at the hands of the Republic force, and the trauma of that, plus her subsequent injury, rendered her largely nonverbal. She has only spoken Rymar or Malavai's name since being admitted to the hospital. The rest of the time, she communicates via either writing or signing.

Many Imperials view Mianna's situation with disdain, describing her as weak-willed and a drain on resources. It's only the lingering prestige of the Quinn family name, combined with threats from her sister-in-law Ridal, that keep such whispers behind closed doors.

There was a brief period after the Battle of Druckenwell that the family feared Malavai had been killed in action. It wasn't until a few weeks after the battle that he contacted them from Balmorra, informing them that he'd been court-martialed and demoted by Moff Broysc.

Ridal assists Malavai in bringing down Moff Broysc, using her old Inteligence contacts to help him abduct the Moff.

My personal headcanon is that Malavai knew Baras would go after his family if he didn't follow his orders, hence the betrayal. After Nes'ria spared him, he reached out to Halic and Ridal, warning them to watch out for any signs of retaliation from Baras. Nes'ria used her family's connections to have Malavai's family taken to a safe place until Baras was defeated.

lord help me im about to have an Opinion again

i think, in fiction, complicated relationships and characters is more interesting than everything working out perfectly. so while im very much down with the sidlinkona polyam ship, i think making it equal feelings in all three directions is not quite right.

i think link and sidon have a relationship that is very intense. they are embarrassing to be around, like oh my god. they hype each other up so much. literally never move past the newlyweds shouting they love each other in public phase, especially sidon. (also a very physical relationship lmao they can't keep their hands off each other, they are both horndogs)

sidon and yona's feelings for each other are less intense lol. they were an arranged marriage, but they are both ok with it. they knew, as royalty, that it was gonna happen. and they do like each other. in fact they're both very happy that their arranged marriage was with someone they trust and can love. it's a slow building smolder instead of fireworks. (the physical part of their relationship is kinda awkward at first, cause they're aware they Have To Do This for heirs. but they are attracted to each other and it quickly becomes for fun as well as duty)

yona and link are not exactly romantic together, but not exactly not? they are besties. they are gal pals. they are semi-platonically sharing a man. they like each other and find each other attractive, sure. but they think of each other as "my partner's other partner". the feelings are just kinda mild between the two of them. (physically i imagine it usually happens when sidon is there, not when they're alone with each other. maybe a few times but not typically)

tldr its not a triangle, its a weird squiggly thing

Thinking about Eve meet with Husk and Niffty and how uneasy Alastor felt when Eve said “can I borrow them for a sec for reasons you don’t need to know” because Alastor pet is Eve pet too and Alastor couldn’t refuse it

Okay, but I have a few headcanons regarding Eve that I am gong to have to explain before I write anything:

This woman was created after Lillith to be a better version of her. That alone would mess anyone up once they find that out.

Sh is the one who actually committed the original sin by biting in that Apple that in HH Lucifer tempted her to take. The ensuring punishment by God and being cursed at by everyone for simply biting into an apple once a long, long time ago also would mess anyone up.

I like to think that just like Alastor Eve has a preference for women after all according to the Bible she is the first woman that got cursed with painful childbirth, period and having to be 'subservient to her husband', etc. So I think she would blame herself for the struggles women face but after a few thousand years of that this blame became much more warped especially since apparently she and Adam did get to have a place in Heaven which would contradict their original punishment. But you cannot question any of this because God is the one who made both these contractory seeming decisions and she has already found out once what questioning God means

If Eve is the one who owns Alastors soul than her marriage with Adam must have been bad enough for Alastor to not fear that he will face any negative consequences if he kills/hurts Adam.

Eve is every human souls (except Adam and Lillith) mother. She is also very disappointed in her children, just like Adam, and thinks that God is right with Heaven and Hell and she would prefer for most of her unworthy/naughty ones to be gone so the worthy/good ones can thrive. But instead of Adam she is being a creep and not an a-hole about it.

Pet is perhaps the wrong word since they all are her children in a way. But if you have literally billions of trillions of souls in Heaven and Hell and Earth who are your descendants than it is impossible to care for all of them equally or at all.

If you are a soul in Heaven, she is actually a very caring and almost 'normal' mother figure to be around. After all, you are one of her good children and worthy enough of eternal Paradise.

It's with her 'naughty' children that she gets creepy with.

Anyway, here is the request:

Eve has 'requested' the company of Husk and Nifty. The last time she had 'requested' anyones company it had been Alastors and she had personally punished him for his 'naughty' deeds and disobedience for seven years.

So you can imagine that Alastor was not all that thrilled about that woman getting a hold of his two favorite souls without his supervision (that he was completely powerless to do anything if she wanted to punish either of them and that she would probably make him be the executioner of it because in her own eyes Husk and Nifty were his 'responsibility' was something his pride did not allowe him to consider).

But he could not do anything, even as he tried to .. lessen whatever punishment or other thing Eve had in store for Husk and NIfty.

But as he was, still, always and forever smiling thanks to stitches , trying to point out of indespenseble all of their presence and work at the Hotel was for Eves overall plan, he felt a .. paw on his shoulder.

And usually he would have reprimanded Husker for thinking that he could simply touch his Boss whenever he felt like it, but as he saw at the feline he realized that this was not meant to annoy Alastor but rather a strange unofficial 'thank you' as Husker seemed to understand what Alastor was trying to do.

But Husker did not really look at him, he looked at Eve.

"' 'Course we will go"

Husk did not bother to even try to go against someone that even Alastor was terrified of. Whatever would happen, Husk would try his best to keep the attention on him so that Nifty would hopefully be left ignored.

Eve laughed.

"You are a smart one, aren't you.", she came closer to Husk and pinched one of his cheeks in a condescending manner. "Don't you worry, momma is going to bring you and your little friend back in no time at all."

She did not bother to say anything to Alastor as all, except give him a smile that made Alastor feel very much like the deer he was.

And then, they were gone and Alastor was left alone.

Cursing under his breath, his smile still one but the shadow on the wall clearly showing a pained and worried expression.

Meanwhile, Nifty lived in utter ignorance of the potential danger they were in. Which would not be very hard to be since the three of them were in a brightly lit room with a rather pleasant and peaceful and, most importantly, incredibly clean surrounding

"So.. what do you want us to do, Boss?", Husk asked, clearly wanting to get this over with as quickly as possible. But the taller woman only smiled at him, clearly waiting for something more.. correct to be said. "Ma'am?" came out less confident and less sure than 'Boss' which seemed to please Eve.

"Why, Husker, I simply want to have a cup of tea with you and Nifty. After all, we are family, aren't we?"

Nifty liked, no, Nifty loved tea parties and it had been so long since she was able to have one that didn't include roaches or corpses. She told Eve as such.

A moment of tense silence followed, in which Husk prayed to a God he was sure stopped listening years ago that Eve liked the comment.

And sure, enough Eve started laughing which prompted Nifty to laugh which caused Husk to give a fake, poite but relieved laugh as well.

They both stopped the second Eve stopped.

"Now why don't we take a seat. I am sure, that this will be much more.. pleasant than your previous parties."

And, surprsingly, it was not as .. horrible as Husk feared it would be.

There was an underlying threat in everything Eve said and did, but she genuinly seemed to like Nifty if only because Nifty was the one who killed her ex-husband who it turned out had been rather rude and ungentlemanlike towards her, blaming her for the whole apple dea entirely and things had only gone downhill with the deat hof their son by their other son and Eve searching for comfort in .. another man, well demons, arms. She seemed to find a certain pleasure in Adam almost killing Alastor but she found an even greater one in knowing Adam had been killed by a woman, although that pleasure had been short lived and quickly replaced by repeantance and guilt.

Somewhere along the line, her hand had reached out towards Husk and she had started to pet him in a way that was clearly absentmindedly as she recalled her ..marriage. She even mentioned her relationship with her 'sister' whom she called a previous and 'lesser' version of herself.

Husk did not move an inch even though he really wanted to

I recently came across your zosan wedding planning/wedding comic again and then all I could think about was who proposes or what Zoro or Sanji's proposal would be like in your mind because I desperately want your thoughts about it. To tell the truth I never used to think that ZoSan would ever get married or "need" to get married, and I thought it was a bit OOC of them when I'd read it in other fics etc... until Whole Cake Island, HAHA. Egg on my face. I think the idea of marriage between them was something that genuinely never occured to them, but after Sanji went through that arc - and Zoro felt like he'd nearly lost him - it would force them to actually think about it and realise, hey, shit, yeah, I think if we were married... I would really like that.

I think Sanji would like the old-school romantic symbolism and the public declaration/pride aspect of marriage, plus the security of knowing someone likes you enough they're willing to tie themselves to you legally - while Zoro would appreciate the ritual of marriage; he wouldn't give a shit about the legal aspects of it, but pledging your devotion to one another in front of all the people most important to you? That's kind of his whole thing, lmao... with Luffy and Kuina and even Mihawk, it's obviously very important to him that he makes his intentions known. He's been quite dramatic about it. I think when it came to the actual wedding day, Sanji would be surprised by how seriously Zoro was taking it, and how heartfelt his "vows" were (I think it would end up sounding more like Zoro was preparing for battle than exchanging traditional wedding vows butttt I also think Sanji would swoon over that more).

Of course, to GET to a wedding day still requires one of them to pull the plug and ASK, which is a degree of communication which still eludes them even post-WCI, lmao. I honestly think it would have to go something like... Sanji joking around with Zoro after Wano, saying "Can you imagine us? Married? Lmaooo" and Zoro's just like "? Yeah, easily"

Cue Sanji's mental bluescreen, because, huh? What? Did marimo really just admit that he'd be fine married him? Is that the same thing as wanting to get married? And so he'd prod him about it and Zoro's like... I mean. I kind of thought we already were, to some degree, what with the whole "I came back from hell for you" thing- ("You came back from hell to kill me" "semantics") and Sanji would have to clarify like 10 times if this means Zoro actually plans to marry him and if that means they should and is this is actually happening- and they eventually settle on yes, it's happening, Zoro has just told Sanji he wants to marry him so now Sanji can start planning their wedding if he needs to.

At which point Sanji EXPLODES on him because what kind of proposal is THAT!?!? He deserves to be romanced off his feet with a huge public display of affection and love after all the shit he went through on Whole Cake Island- proposals are supposed to be once-in-a-lifetime events that make you sob and you can tell your grandchildren about them ("we're not having kids")... so Zoro is forced to re-propose to him, probably getting help from each of the Straw Hats in turn about how they think he should do it "properly" (all of which just end up pissing Sanji off, humiliating him, or missing the mark) until they get into a huge argument where Zoro accidentally lays out exactly why he loves Sanji and why he wants to marry him- and that does it. Sanji's a weepy mess and they're ~engaged~

Then the wedding itself is probably equally as disasterous as on Whole Cake because the Straw Hats are involved but this time Sanji is having a blast.

Edit: Alright, fuck it. Here are what the Straw Hats would suggest as their "ideal proposal"

Luffy: He doesn't really get it and thinks Zoro's proposal was already the best way to do it. Keeps badgering Sanji not to be so stingy and just marry Zoro already because he wants cake which pisses Sanji off more. Zoro doghouse count: 1

Usopp: Usopp bursts into tears (he's shipped them for so long) and is almost useless but does eventually pull himself together enough to suggest writing it in the sky. And he has just the invention to do it! This one is actually going pretty smoothly and Usopp is nearly done using his dial-powered drone to spell "will you marry me swirly-brow" over the ocean while Zoro draws Sanji out of the kitchen by the hand when the drone explodes and showers them all in pieces and singes Sanji's hair. "How could you have trusted like that." Zoro doghouse count: 2

Nami: Nami thinks about a man proposing to her and gags but tries to use her imagination and says just throw a bunch of money at it and it should be fine. Lavish him with fine chocolates and champagne and then put the ring in one of the glasses. ("What ring?" "Oh for fuck's sake") Zoro buys expensive champagne & truffles but a cheap ring and it makes the champagne taste like shit and Sanji goes off on him about wasting food. Zoro doghouse count: 3, Zoro debt to Nami: +$5,000

Brook: Brook tells him to simply go traditional, get down on one knee, and speak from the heart, and even offers to accompany Zoro on the deck with a romantic violin. This one is actually working, Zoro's kneeling, everyone's watching and smiling and going "aww", Sanji's swooning, Brook gets into the fucking zone and absolutely shreds it on a violin solo so rambunctious it turns into a Thousand Sunny dance party and both Sanji and Zoro are pissed off at being outshone. Zoro doghouse count: 4, Brook doghouse count: 1

Franky: Franky suggests Zoro takes Sanji to some sort of live show and get on the projector Denden Mushi to hold up a sign asking Sanji to marry him. gender in the mars house

this isnt very long & is mostly haphazard and off the cuff but i had to put down some of my thoughts as a nonbinary person on the way gender is portrayed in this book. spoilers obviously

i know as a long-time fan of miss pulley to not take the things she puts in her work at face value. obviously, i think thats true for basically anything not written for children, and even many things that are written for children. something else has to be going on, right? i found myself constantly thinking "whats the catch?"

it feels strange for the love interest to say literal terf rhetoric and imply that bioessentialism is part of the world building. because on one hand this is the love interest, a person that comes across as a charming, awkward nerd in the majority of the text, and theyre saying something completely hideous. not necessarily what they personally believe, but a truth about why things are the way they are on mars.

and because then i look at all these people who were assigned they/them at birth and wonder if any of them ever feel gender euphoria. if you are gender neutral because society says so and you were genetically modified, is there any joy in it? is there any real freedom in it? what about binary trans people? what about people like myself who use neopronouns? is this just neo-cisgenderism? this society is much less widespread gender equality and more of a rigid absence of diversity. otherwise wouldnt we see more genders instead of less?

most of the time everything is very normal. i know so many people who use they/them that it feels very comfortable and homey to see it used so much. but sometimes it feels off. its definitely a cis persons imagining of gender neutrality. because when you create a world where the reason these people are "nonbinary" is bioessentialism and not because they genuinely feel that way, it feels like the gender neutrality is... bad? wrong? misguided?

it makes me feel crazy. on mars gender is no more bc men historically have power over women and kill their wives? women are the victims of biology so now everyone is assigned they/them at birth? it leaves a very odd taste in my mouth. gale only ever addresses it once after this, admitting that actually abolishing gender didnt stop anyone getting killed, it was changing marriage law that did. so where does that leave us

i love a morally gray pulley love interest--if mori was real i would forgive him for all the murders then bat my eyelashes and say anything you want beautiful LMAO. but i think that mystery, when we're dealing with something like systematic oppression, thats a very different thing. i was waiting the whole book for them to say that it was a lie and gender was abolished for a different reason, or that they only said that for the optics.

i wonder what other trans & nb ppl think about it. is there something im not getting? do you like this mono-gender mars? do you think im completely off the mark? if anyone actually reads this i genuinely want to know 😭

natasha i love your work queen but theres a lot in this book that fails to convey what i think you were trying to convey. obv this is just one issue, there are plenty of others that i dont feel nearly as equipped to discuss, in this and her other books. and while i will always enjoy her prose and try to go in w good faith, certainly no one is infallible.

Who Viserys (and potentially Rhaenys) marries -> the only Valyrian matches left for Viserys are Rhaenys herself and Gael. If Jaehaerys is purposefully cutting Rhaenys out completely to keep ~the line of succession clear~ than he might push for a marriage to Gael but Alysanne is gonna fight that one and beyond that, we don't know who arranged Viserys' marriage since Alysanne wasn't really talking to her family at this time. So Viserys marries Rhaenys, Gael, or (most likely imo?) some random powerful lady, maybe even a Velaryon cousin.

Who Daemon marries -> There's a chance a male Aemma Arryn wants to marry back into the main Targaryen line, in which case his best bet would be one of Rhaenys or Viserys' daughters BUT I think it's equally likely (especially if he isn't given a dragon to claim) that he decides to go for Rhea Royce and stays in the Vale, in which case Alysanne would have to find a different heiress to foist Daemon onto.

Meanwhile Naerys as a boy changes-

I mean not much? Naerys is third born so even if Aegon is a girl, that means Aegon and Aemon marry and Aemon is King. Probably Naerys joins the Kingsguard instead but if the health issues still exist, it's more likely he goes to the Maesters like Vaegon.

Well Naerys is heir. I think it’s likely they just wait to see which sister he likes more before betrothing him to one or the other since there’s only three or four years between the trio.

I think I’ve mentioned before that whether a genderswapped tyrant can continue tyranting wildly depends on their circumstances and that goes triple in this case. Perhaps Aegon is angry that she’s firstborn but will never inherit. Purposefully seduces her brother in an attempt to get herself made queen. Tries to have Aemon packed off to be a Septa.

At the same time, it’s no guarantee that a male Naerys will be as kind as a female Naerys. He’s been heir apparent since Daeron I died, and I’m getting the idea that most of Vis II and Aegon III’s kids are Like That because of the loss of the dragons - I can’t imagine a male Naerys is spared the madness of Baelor, Daeron, or OG Aegon & Aemon.

It’s possible they have a lot more kids tho, if the issue in the first place was simply that Naerys was too sickly to carry a child to term. But also, if Aegon is having that many issues having kids, I do think she might get a bit more desperate to have one to ensure her own power as Queen. And who knows how that impacts Daeron! Technically, the Blackfyres would be avoided but who KNOWS what Naerys is up to.

I'm not familiar enough with Buddhism to comment on the real-world parallels here, but just from an in-universe perspective, there could be some wiggle room without disregarding everything that's established about the Force, how the Order works and why it works like it does. I can see two types of exceptions: - Jedi in situations like Kanan's (isolated from the Order, with his team as only support system, in a committed relationship - since there's no Order to be committed to - but aware of the risks; when feeling emotionally compromised, he asks other people to make the call, like Ezra in the mission to rescue Hera) - for a 'normal' Jedi in the 'normal' Order... intra-Order marriages. The way I figure this would work is that they'd be pretty rare and pretty regulated, but at least they've got a safety net in the form of all the other Knights and Masters who can point it out and step up if things aren't working out. They can be assigned to different missions when impartiality is needed and to the same when it's routine stuff and they work well as a pair.

Why just Jedi marrying Jedi? In an ideal case, both would be equally devoted to their duty, would understand that missions come first in daily life (so no arguments like 'you're never around for me, like Padmé and Anakin had) and that innocent lives come first no matter what (so no sacrificing other people for your personal happiness). I mean, Jedi do have very close friends and other Jedi they consider family and that's basically how they treat those bonds. What's different imo about marriage is that you promise to your spouse to always put them first, which is incompatible with the same vow made to your duty as a Jedi - but if they're both Jedi it might be like they'd be both married to the Order (which in essence is what being a monk is) and to each other. Risky, but who knows.

We see that Jedi raised within the Order from a young age tend to do leagues better than Anakin where dealing with loss or duty is concerned, so I imagine it could, hypothetically, work sometimes.

Ironically enough, that's how Karen Traviss' Altisian Jedi went about it iirc (minus the carefully making sure it doesn't go horribly wrong because 'there's nothing wrong with love ever')? She's not what I'd call positively inclined towards the Order lmao. I also vaguely recall that those relationships she wrote about ended rather terribly. Then again, the main philosophy behind her Altisians was 'Jedi bad, being free and not participating in the war and having sex good.' But as long as that's not the underlying idea behind the fic, yeah, it can work 😂 I mean, it's fic. Almost anything can work.

I wouldn't want it to ever become canon - I prefer my Jedi celibate, tbh, I love that aspect of their characters (yesIknow in canon they don't have to be celibate, but from what we see most never choose to pursue a relationship and I love that about them and tbh I prefer no romantic relationships at all rather than flings) but if I had to write a fic that's how I'd do it. I don't know if they'd call it marriage though

Bold of you to assume Serafina would allow herself to get treated like that. Lmao, no.

I headcanon that Mevolent and Serafina's marriage is a politically motivated one, so she holds just as much political power as he does. On top of that, she is Old Blood and decent from a noble line of Faceless worshippers. At one point she had just as much sway as he within the church (before he declared himself the messiah, that is). Can you imagine what kind of Hell would break loose if he ever dared to hit her? Not only would Serafina turn against him, but all her siblings too. Creed would probably be thrilled about his siblings joining him in his opposition to Mev. She doesn't tolerate his mind games either and shuts them down the moment Mev tries anything funny. Serafina is pretty much the only one that can stand up to him and his bullshit.

Mev loves both Serafina and Nefarian, but in all aspects apart from pure magical power, Serafina is his equal and Mev knows that. Meanwhile, Nefarian is lower-ranking and weaker than him in every aspect and is pretty much at his mercy, just like everybody else in the Church.

TL;DR: Serafina can defend herself against Mevolent and his mind games, Nefarian can't.

Cosette is a pale-skinned human that is very feminine-presenting. She has a round face, straight-bridged nose with a round tip, and large blue eyes (my face claim for her is Alicia Agneson). Her wavy golden hair reaches her mid-back when it's down, but she often has it up in a braided updo when adventuring (this is her "practical" keep-the-hair-out-of-my-face hairstyle). In safer, more comfortable settings, she likes trying a variety of hairstyles. She is of average height, leaning on the short side (5'5" or 165cm, aka my own height lol) and of average weight—not stick-thin like she has to be in BG3, she's quite soft and has some chub.

👄: How do they talk? What's their vocabulary like? What does their voice sound like? Any accent, verbal tics, etc?

When I've played as Cosette in actual D&D, I raised the pitch of my own voice for her. I'd describe her voice as youthful. Going by her original concept as an Orlesian Dragon Age character, she'd have a French accent, but I'm no good at accents irl and since I've been playing her in BG3 she has the standard medieval fantasy English accent.

She has an advanced vocabulary, but she doesn't throw around big/uncommon words all the time unless she's either talking about a technical subject or talking to someone else who has an equally big vocabulary. Some conversations between her and Gale are pretty wild to listen to (but incredibly fun for them) lmao, I feel like they'd occasionally play an unspoken game of who can use the rarest, weirdest words.

👃: Do they smell like anything in particular? Why do they smell like that?

Cosette does wear a modest amount of perfume when she can, so she usually has a soft floral scent. While roughin' it in the wilderness without access to perfume, when she has time she makes her own perfume with her alchemy kit and any nice-smelling flowers she can find. That being said, with all the rather nasty stuff she tends to get into (she's not afraid to get her hands dirty if something is interesting enough to her; for example, she hand-harvested blood from a corrupted unicorn carcass once in a campaign I played her in), there's a good chance at any given time that there's a far less pleasant smell lurking underneath the perfume. 😅

🚗: In a modern AU, what kind of job would they have, if any?

I imagine Cosette would technically be a student in a modern AU, in college to get a PHD. As to exactly what she's studying, it's hard for her because she wants to study so many different things. Beyond the physical limitations of time, though, she doesn't really have to worry about tuition costs since she comes from such a wealthy family, so she would take way more classes than any sane person. Ultimately she'd become a scientist of some kind. Maybe a biochemist?

🎁: If they needed to give a friend a gift, how would they go about choosing one? Would they buy it, make it, or do something else? Would others consider them good at gift-giving?

Usually Cosette will buy gifts for people, since money is no object for her. She does try to pay attention to what people like and give thoughtful gifts, but occasionally she might get caught up in what she would consider an amazing gift and give something along those lines instead. Overall I think people would consider her fine at gift-giving other than the occasional slip-up as just mentioned. I can also imagine some people are uncomfortable with receiving really expensive gifts, and Cosette wouldn't necessarily pick up on that unless they told her explicitly.

📚: Do they like to read books? If so, what sorts of books do they prefer to read? If not, why don't they like reading?

Oh my god yes Cosette L O V E S reading. Her family's estate has a sizeable library that nurtured her interest in books as a child. She loves just about any genre, really, but particularly likes nonfiction books on esoteric topics. Stuff about rare/mythical magical creatures, niche magic theory, advanced alchemy, etc. And, of course, anything considered "forbidden" knowledge. It was this love of reading that lead her to discover the ritual that put her in contact with her patron.

💒: How does your character feel about marriage? Have their feelings on marriage ever changed?

Cosette loooooves the idea of marriage, with the caveat that it's for love and not a political arranged match (though she does recognize that those have the potential to become loving relationships). She's definitely a hopeless romantic, to the point that she doesn't really understand why other people wouldn't want marriage for themselves. It definitely equals a "happy ending" for her, at least when she first starts out. As she grows, she comes to see how and why that might not be the case for everyone, but it always remains a goal for herself.

this is different from what i usually post but i need to rant and would love thoughts and feedback (especially from any women with children and in a committed relationship. the sex of your partner doesn’t matter either but i’m slightly more curious of a hetero or bi woman’s perspective)

i want to preface that i’m a single and childless woman and most of my opinions are hypothetical as i can’t truly relate yet but yeah.

anyway so i’ve been coming across articles, social media posts, etc. about how and why you should love your spouse more than your children and i can’t wrap my head around loving someone, anyone, more than your children. and all the arguments don’t make sense to me. folks argue what the bible says about loving god first then your spouse and lastly your children. but i don’t read nor follow the teachings of the bible so that doesn’t convince me at all. other arguments i’ve read are that your spouse was with you before the children and they’ll be there after the children become adults so you should love them more. my question then would be are these people saying it’s impossible to love your children more than anything and still have a strong relationship with your partner? because the reason i think i couldn’t love my spouse more than my children is because the love between partners and the love of a parent and child is not comparable. parent-child relationships are stronger, or at least should be. they would have to be to truly love the child unconditionally. i have no doubt that i could still love my partner after bringing children into the picture but i couldn’t imagine loving them more or even equally to my children. also marriage/partnership is not forever in every case and it’s not truly unconditional. for instance, if my spouse cheated or broke my trust, i’m leaving them and falling out of love. my children are forever even when they are grown. they’ll be adults with their own lives and i won’t have as big of an impact in their lives when they are grown (which is natural and normal and to be expected) but even so they are my children. i can’t explain it, it’s more of a feeling but like they’re my children how could i not love them more? i feel i’m rambling as it makes more sense in my head and i don’t think i can put it into words. i guess the biggest thing is i don’t think it’s wrong to love your child(ren) more than your spouse and i don’t think loving your children more equates to neglecting your relationship with your partner either. i don’t know, i just can’t imagine loving anyone more than my children, though they don’t exist yet lmao.
