What makes you choose certain pieces for study? Do they just catch your eye, or do you target things you specifically feel like you could improve on? Maybe some other thing?
hello looloopaa
its a bit of both really, sometimes i have an idea in my mind and i think i need to do some studies so i can give it my best go.
sometimes i just see something thats kind of a nice image, and i think 'dang i need to learn how to do that.' like clothes is a super weak point for me, i dont think ive done a study of fabric in 10 years or something. cos i mostly focused on landscape my character art is quite weak comparatively
i also dont really worry about learning things that dont interest me, or dont lead me towards my goal (atm my goal is drawing what i want real good- horror and environment stuff), which is why i dont do like mecha studies or cities. its not really something i want to add to my repertoire yet
so im not super interested in being good at many things, just good at a few things that interest me, and if i see a cool image related to my interests i will study so i can become stronger, before using it in my art
hope that makes sense
btw anyone reading should go follow looloopaa their pixel art is very nice ok

Here's a cool older piece I made as part of a secret santa pixel art exchange. One of my favorite pieces still. It was fun figuring out how to use this palette without feeling like it was too dominated by one or the other.

So uh, I'm remaking the tiles for Veritus. We were having a ton of trouble with readability and layering, as well as my feeling like it just wasn't good enough compared to stuff other people in the "game boy color top down adventure game" scene were doing. The main hall is still very much a work in progress, but I feel a lot better looking at this newer version than I did with the older one... I can only hope that I still feel the same way once I finish the walls and add props back in!

Made this as a secret santa piece for somebody. Can you guess all the NES games? Truthfully, I'm not sure I remember all of them anymore.

This was a Pixel Dailies prompt from twitter a while back. The challenge was to recreate a provided screen shot of the Veridian Forest from Pokemon Yellow. I spent a lot of time in there as a kid - mostly because I didn't understand how the game worked. Hours and hours of grinding levels with Pikachu until he could beat brock... Still, it was one of the first games I ever played and holds a special place in my heart.

Here’s a bunch of stuff I made back in 2020. I feel like I was just on the cusp of really being good at this stuff. Wild that this was during the development of the first real game I was working on.
The Mario Bros piece was for a friend who was streaming at the time, and wanted to do a Mario Bros Deluxe stream / video. It never ended up being used, but I think it’s pretty neat.
The witch was inspired by an edit somebody did of a character sprite from the game I worked on, giving her a witch hat. I thought to myself, “wouldn’t a jack-o-lantern be fun to design a witch character around?”
And Link, of course, is using the rod of seasons from the Oracle of Seasons game on the Gameboy Color. It’s one of the few pieces of art to ever win any kind of competition, so I’m still proud of it despite feeling I could do better now.
I hope you folks like what you see; I’ll be posting more art here and there.
